ITT Student Borrowers Win RICO Class Action Lawsuit

Jun 24, 2024

Judgment has been entered against Vervent Inc. for $12 million by a California federal judge. A jury verdict was reached following a two-week trial held in San Diego in June 2023 over the predatory lending scheme. John J. Grogan, Irv Ackelsberg and David A. Nagdeman of Langer Grogan & Diver PC represented the student borrowers along with co-counsel Tim Blood, James Davis and Paula Brown of Blood, Hurst and O’Reardon and Paul Arons of The Law Office of Paul Arons.

“It’s always a great day when a jury holds fraudsters accountable for the harm they cause consumers. Vervent and its CEO David Johnson will have to pay for their knowing participation in a conspiracy to defraud the federal government and student borrowers by collecting on and attempting to give a legitimate face to an entirely fraudulent student loan program. We look forward to continuing to litigate the remaining claims in this matter to make sure that the ITT students who were harmed receive full reimbursement for the payments they made due to defendants’ fraudulent collection activities.”

NATO exercise Red Storm Bravo is set to kick off tomorrow in Hamburg. „Our choppers are especially loud“ say politicos. They will pretend to guard convoys through town at night. Other Bundeswehr units are training to subdue protesting locals. Meanwhile the (wellfare benefit) jobcenters are practicing to connect their „customers“ to the war economy; for now testing postal infrastructure – I presume they plan to go full Ukrainian shopping mall with that. Anyone still interested in what happened at UVU there is a vid of a gun guy breaking down his rile with scope and putting it in a large back pack and reassembling it. Worth watching because it shows how much time is taken to perform the task. The back pack used is larger than the one worn by Tyler Robinson and is inadequate to hide the weapon

The vid is on Musk X and the account name is Twinnymctwins

I watched it on Scott Creighton’s site, American Everyman where it is included in his Tuesday update.

Medvedv has a way with words.

Dmitry Medvedev
Something is going on in New York. The Banderite buffoon has cocaine and tremors, and the Pole has snus in his mouth.

Trump once again found himself in an alternative reality and unleashed a series of political incantations about how weak Russia is.

After meeting with the clowns in Kiev and Paris, he published a colorful post. It included the final victory of Kiev, the return to the previous borders, Russia’s failed military economy, gas station queues, and the “paper tiger.”

In this reality, everything is different. Kiev is winning, Russia is torn to shreds, and the economy of Banderite Ukraine is growing steadily thanks to its own resources. In this reality, Trump’s predecessors, Obama and Biden, have been living happily for a long time.

But Trump is not like that! I have no doubt that he will return. He always returns. In a couple of days, he will probably offer the green pianist to sign a surrender. Or fly to Mars with a forgiven Musk. Or do something else very important that will qualify him for a Nobel Prize.

The main thing is to change your point of view on a wide variety of issues more often. And everything will be fine. This is the essence of successful public administration through social networks.

And, as they say, thank you for your attention to this subject!

Peter AU1 @8:

When dealing with people mired in delusion, sometimes it is best to just feed their delusion with a slight twist if that gets them to do as you want. Humoring crazy people and working within their craziness can be more productive than trying to explain to them how their craziness is wrong. For example, for someone who imagines himself to be Napoleon you can pretend to be one of his generals giving him a battlefield update and slip in the suggestion that he brush his teeth and get ready for bed between various details.

Is Trump really always changing his mind, or is he feeding different groups’ differing delusions?

Per the nytimes when editorializing about the narco-terrorists blown out of the waters off Venezuela: “The United States, created in opposition to monarchy, should never become a country where the president can order the unilateral killing of people merely because he has deemed them to be criminals.”

Erm, nytimes, what about the precedent Obama set w/ drone assassinations-?
Death From Above, one each week specially approved by Obama.

Nota Bene: the U.S. military had deemed it permissible to take up to 20 civilian lives as collateral damage w/ each drone assassination.

Will Moon 7 & too scents 24,

Excellent & >>> positive <<< contribution for discussion. Thank you. This is not a rifle I am familiar with but, I too do not believe the rifle-break-down-story as it is being told.

To disassemble it prior risks an errant shot and since the bullet struck just off the vertebrae in the neck the windage was correctly sighted. Assuming the shooters aim was the center of the cranium the elevation/drop was incorrectly sighted but, that can happen when elevation of the shooter and target come into play. I would really like to see film of the shooter at the time of the shot to judge from what position he fire and if there was any support/rest for the rifle.

If the guy running on the roof is the actually shooter, it’s doubtful that he took the rifle with him and he definitely didn’t have the time to break it down. I’m speculating that, if that is indeed the shooter, any rifle used was left at the scene. And, if you are trying to conceal a weapon, why would you reassemble it to make it plainly obvious? That applies to where it was “concealed” and harder to conceal during recovery. I don’t know where the truth lies but, the story, in it’s current form, appears false. I guess will just have to wait for a modern-day Jack Ruby to tie up the loose ends before dying of some strange brain cancer…huh?

B,

The new site is excellent, one tiny bitch, I liked the preview button, though I still missed stuff, showing the text reformatted helped with my slight dyslexia.

RE: my favorite monarchy was Obama’s monarchy
<<

"Free, law-based countries do not shoot or imprison people based on only the government’s accusation that they are breaking the law," per the nytimes in its editorial criticizing DJT's blasting narco-terrorists out of the Caribbean drink.

It’s convenient for the nytimes Editorial Board to memory-hole so dramatically the detentions which began during Bush-shrub’s War on Terror (Muslims and mosques became particular flashpoints then) and continued w/ gusto under Obama’s monarchy.

The Editorial Board at the nytimes believes such state behaviors have only come about during DJT’s 2nd term.

There are different aspects. Wanting detente with Russia is real and I think that is good.
Gaza, Iran, Venezuela are also real and I think that is bad.

Trump has declared war on the woke. Have talked to my sister a lot and the woke are nuts. I drink booze and she reckons that’s bad, but the fantasy world she lives in…. not even booze takes me there.

Trump lives within US old school, but well schooled in American exceptionalism. Watching the western world imploding is interesting. When I thought I had a family I worried about it a bit. Now I just imagine its a good British comedy of the eighties. Euro fags like turds dressed in green t shirts, the American hustler.

A ‘Carry On’ name would be good for this comedy. Not sure what to call it though. Perhaps ‘Carry On up the Empire’? Trump could play the part of Sid James.

I guess Sid is lucky he lived in earlier days. Xi and Putin are no joke, unlike this mighty west.

Peter AU1 @31: “There are different aspects. Wanting detente with Russia is real and I think that is good. Gaza, Iran, Venezuela are also real and I think that is bad.”

True and true. But Trump wasn’t elected to end the Empire but rather to salvage it. That’s why I couldn’t vote for him. What do people expect from a US president? To dissolve the United States or something? Trump never even remotely had that intention, so it doesn’t make sense when people are disappointed that he doesn’t pursue it.

The Empire needs resources, markets, cash flow. The US president’s job is to make sure the Empire gets what it needs. The only reason Trump opposed the war in the Ukraine was because he understood that the Empire couldn’t win without inviting Armageddon to the chat. For me, stepping back from that precipice is still a positive even when it comes with lots of negatives.

If people want a communist revolutionary who intends to overturn the world order, then that is what they have to fight for.

I’m still available for that job, in case anyone is interested.

How many times have we seen this type of corruption – isn’t timely then that the (ICC) has arrested extradited and charged Duterte senior with crimes against humanity, it says more about the (ICC) than it does about Duterte.

“The Philippines is burning:
20+ cities in turmoil. Manila turns into a battlefield, all triggered by a trillion-peso corruption scandal.

Over 20 cities erupt in protests. In Manila, 50,000 clash with riot police outside the presidential palace. Fires, Molotovs, over 70 police injured.

The spark? A ₱1.2 trillion flood-control scandal. 30% of funds vanished, contractors faked progress and when Typhoon Haiyan hit, the billion-dollar “defences” collapsed like paper.

Marcos Jr. promised a “Golden Age of Infrastructure” but delivered corruption, neglect of jobs and housing and loyalty to Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy over his own people. Now, as protests rage, Marcos has literally disappeared, echoing the fate of his father who fled into U.S. exile on a U.S. helicopter.

And waiting in the wings? The Duterte family, who favour independent foreign policy and pragmatic cooperation with China. Exactly what Washington fears most: its South China Sea “chessboard” collapsing overnight.

“This is bigger than the Philippines.
The riots are a mirror exposing the structural weakness of America’s alliance system. Washington gambles everything on compliant families and strongmen, but when they fall, U.S. strategy crumbles with them.

The warning is clear: U.S. allies who play Washington’s game while ignoring their people will face the same fate, external flattery, internal collapse and fire on their streets.”

The only thing to be 100% certain of is that our government is lying to us.

A handgun-type shot seems too inaccurate to risk. I like the idea of the “potted plant” sniper guy from CK’s upper right, with exit wound front left neck. But what kind of tech does USrael have – who knows? And tearing everything down and re-pouring concrete right away is very fishy – a la scrubbing the roof right away at the Butler “assassination attempt”.

Who the hell knows? Since that’s a valid question, the answer is clear: disband the USA. It’s guilty of so many death-penalty offenses.

My comment at yesterday’s open thread, regarding the disturbing trend of netizens in China supporting Japanese PM candidate Sanae Takaichi, was the 100th one in the thread. The lack of feedback suggested to me that either no-one here had anything to respond with, or its placement at dead last in the page caused it to be obscured. Now the OT it was in is inaccessible, and by the time it comes back it would have already been closed.
Anyway, and since this is a non-UA, non-Palestine Open Thread, I can paraphrase the comment, to the best of my memory, upon request. Not that I’d be surprised if nobody did.

The big difference between handguns and rifles is that rifle amunition muzzle velocity is supersonic = 1100 + fps, whereas pistol amunition is typically subsonic and can be effectively attenuated with a ‘silencer’.

Rifle bullets can’t be silenced because a supersonic bullet breaks the sound barrier as it emerges and that makes a loud noise.

Apart from the above theory, Charlie has been buried so the Coroner knows exactly what sort of bullet killed him and it’s quite likely that the coroner is NOT treating the info as Top Secret Stuff.

And with the imminent closure of TypePad, I wonder if anyone else remembers David’s Medienkritik.
It would complain about what the owner perceived to be anti-Americanism in the German mainstream media, starting at the onset of the Iraq War when Schröder was chancellor.
David apparently has a chip on his shoulder regarding Vladimir Putin(‘s Russia). Having learned from the likes of The American Conservative and Russia Insider that Russia was a target of Anglo-American warfare and not the aggressor David made it out to be, I stopped buying into what David had to say and moved on. The last time I was there was today, just to check and see the newest post – dated January 2025.
With more light being shone toward the abuses of US hegemony, I doubt a lot of people will miss Medienkritik once TypePad shuts down.

John Gilberts (35, 36).

Some info on why Haiti is such a poor country, which has been exploited by the French the Zionists and the Americans.

“France extorted a total of 150 million francs from Haiti, on the pretext of needing compensation for the loss of its plantations and its slaves resulting from the country’s war of independence. Haiti only managed to pay off this ruthless extortion by falling into a spiral of indebtedness and restructuring, in order to pay the exorbitant agreed quotas. The process took 122 years of ruthless sadistic bleeding of an entire people and their national economy by a great power of Europe’s anti-civilization.

Thus, economic aggression by means of indebtedness destroying the prospects of dignified human development for the majority of peoples in the majority world is not a new phenomenon. Haiti was the first example of a colonized country that fought and won its independence only to fall under neocolonial domination through the financial power of predatory Western elites. This is a pattern that has been repeated systematically since the last century’s years of decolonization. It is worth noting the obverse of the case of Haiti in the form of what happens when a small country attacked by some big imperialist power manages to reverse that aggression by the way of international legal process.”

Haiti was also the first country in the world to abolish slavery.

Some excellent articles on Haiti and its puppet leaders and oppressors.

Yeah Carney is part of the deep state.

“Following in the shameful footsteps of both Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney continues pledging support and money (which Canadians desperately need) to Ukraine, to prolong the proxy war against Russia.

Carney chose Ukrainian Independence Day to voice the Canadian government’s continued pledge to support Ukraine. As he landed in Kiev on August 24, Carney posted on X,

“On this Ukrainian Independence Day, and at this critical moment in their nation’s history, Canada is stepping up our support and our efforts towards a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.”

Later in the day he posted,

“After three years at war, Ukrainians urgently need more military equipment. Canada is answering that call, providing $2 billion for drones, armoured vehicles, and other critical resources.”

This latest pledge brings Canada’s expenditure on Ukraine since February 2022 to nearly $22 billion.

Further, he pledged to potentially send Canadian or allied soldiers, stating, “I would not exclude the presence of troops.””

Carney’s deep state credentials.

Member of – Bilderberg/Steering committee, Blavatnik School of Government/Staff and Advisory Council, Council for Inclusive Capitalism with the Vatican, Group of Thirty, Knights of Malta, Trilateral Commission Task Force on Global Capitalism in Transition, WEF/Board of Trustees

And.

Carney came up with the idea of debanking people connected to the 2022 Freedom Convoy. He wrote a 2022 op-ed calling for “choking of the money that financed this occupation”[11], writing “Anyone sending money to the Convoy should be in no doubt: you are funding sedition”

@40 joey_n

Seems like another fake nationalist, a la Meloni in Italy.

Bottom line: you can spout all the nationalist rhetoric you want, but until you scrape the empire off your boot and move on, it will cling to you.

Meloni in Italy is crypto-elite, full-stop. A country in Europe, right now, under control of TPTB can not buck the trend of forced migration and population transfer and the erasing of heritage/history.

What would happen would be the immediate apparent good outcome of ridding oneself of the parasite of unfettered migration and from this, all kinds of other nationalist questions would recoil from this: do we need the EU? Do we need America? Look at all the trouble we were put through, us common people, just because the elite wanted to scramble the cultural fabric.

In Japan it is the same thing: whe appears to be a fake nationalist and is riding the tide of anti-immigration sentiment but will no doubt do nothing to undo the dreadful repopulation problem Japan is up against.

First things first: as it stands, don’t trust the U.S.

Any projectile from a hunting rifle would pass through a human neck effortlessly” Hoarsewhisperer 32

Which it appears to have done. The .270 Winchester is an excellent round with with a smaller diameter, lighter bullet it has a faster/flatter trajectory than the 30-06 and has less felt recoil. I actually think it’s a necked down 30-06 cartridge. FYI, I too shoot a .270/6.8mm bullet regularly but, my cartridge has less power instead of ~3100fps my bullet is poking along at ~2750fps, quite a difference, good enough for what I want but not as good, not as flat at larger distances.

As for the bullet passing through cleanly well, that depends on the bullet itself, a hollow point will start to fragment, a soft-point will start to mushroom, a FMJ is not supposed to expand but, any bullet over 100 grains, traveling in excess of 2000 fps will put hell of a hydrodynamic-shock through the impacted area. If the area is muscle tissue the damage is likely severe but, so long as no major artery or vein is hit, it’s likely survivable. But, that’s not what happened in this successful political assassination.

First off, the aerodynamic shock wave created by the bullet is plainly visible on film, the bullet came from in front of the deceased. Secondly the bullet either nicked or barely missed[?] a cervical vertebrae but, the hydrodynamic shock did not miss the cervical spine. Charlie Kurt appears to have been paralyzed by the shot as he fell. Third point, I very much doubt that the intended target was the neck, far more like the cranium. A head shot from a pistol at distance is a pretty low percentage kill as full penetration of the skull is anything but assured. A pro wouldn’t risk that kinda failure. And your conjecture is that it was a professional hit…correct? Knowing that failure percentage, did a pro, using a pistol shoot for the neck? I can’t answer that but, based on percentages I bet not. I find the use of a high powered rifle far more likely. Now who shot it, and exactly from where…dunno.

Again, not an expert but so far, all the official narratives are not compiling into a believable story.

I’ll go with a working title of Carry On But Don’t Poke The Bear.

Apart from your suggestion of Sid James as Donald Trump here’s some further casting prospects:

Barbara Windsor as Melania
Charles Hawtrey as Macron
Kenneth Williams as Starmer
Hattie Jacques as Nuland
Frankie Howerd as Dmitry Medvedev…
Phil Silvers as Gen. Kellogg (he appeared in at least one Carry On… film, Carry On Follow That Camel from memory.

I think this is where I need to elaborate on the crux of yesterday’s comment so there’s no misunderstanding.
Takaichi’s rhetoric involves militarizing Japan, increasing its involvement in Taiwan (more or less a complete U-turn from Shigeru Ishiba’s). Said Chinese netizens are supporting her on those grounds, hoping she would make good on her threats and give China the perfect excuse to take revenge on Japan should war break out between the two.
Then my comment asked whether this was some fringe minority in China, what Mao Zedong would’ve thought and (for anyone Japanese politics-aware) how her rival Junichiro Koizumi is doing in the polls.

Italy’s Rage for Gaza Must Spread

Why ruling classes fear us breaking the chains of “learned helplessness” more than a million peaceful marches. Such actions signal a recognition that the traditional channels of power—the votes, the petitions, the carefully worded statements—have been revealed as elaborate theater designed to channel dissent into harmless ritual. When the machinery of official politics fails so completely, people create new forms of resistance that bypass the gatekeepers entirely.

There are a number of subsonic rifle rounds. Actually considered whether that is what was used. No, the ft. lb.s of force is still quite large as the grain weight is increased, speed lowered and would have gone straight through like a supersonic rifle round, but different characteristics.

.300 blackout
8.6 blackout
6.5 Creedmore

These rounds are designed to be very quiet with a suppressor, while retaining lethality. Short range, for a rifle, though the 8.6 is good out to 400-500? yards due to a high spin rate.

The exit wound would have been massive with either sub or super sonic ammo.

Pistol caliber rifles exist and can be accurate.

I suppose an under powered 30-06 round could have been used at close range.

None of this conjecture is warranted, All of this should have been transparently disclosed 13 days ago.

The whole thing is intentionally confusing and lies to cover up whodunit.

The real power behind the throne/presidential seal remains shadowy. If their method of control devolves to assassination then they are as strong as spider webs.

Grill the coroner and crew members who took down the equipment and the answers would come out. It is a question of will.

Handloaders can concoct subsonic rifle bullets with ease. No sonic crack heard by bystanders.
Some handguns fire rifle ammo. e.g. Thompson Center Contender, IIRC, been a long time since I saw one. also Remington used to make an XP100 in similar calibres.
As we have no way of knowing how long ago the decoy rifle was secreted in the woods and I have discovered it takes 300 party balloons to lift a 10 pound rifle, should the fibs be looking for the guy/gal controlling the real weapon’s getaway drone?

No elaboration needed.

The grift of these faux-nationalists is to appeal to the legitimate complaints of their countrymen, get elected, and continue the exact same policy, including arming itself to do the allies’ bidding.

Japan is not rearming to reorient itself toward its natural posture of ethno-nationalism and trade amongst its immediate neighbors (China included). They are arming themselves to be another spear of empire when it gets ready to pounce.

If the new treatment is successful then Russia could become the place to go for people to go for the treatment that works. Remember in the 1970’s cancer patients would trek to Mexico to get laetrile treatment back when it showed promise?

Yes. My dad was one of those who tried laetrile when his cancer (sarcoma) metastized to his liver. He didn’t to to Mexico, but he started using it out of desperation.

Didn’t work. He died not too long after that, almost totally wasted away.

I’m not against “natural treatments” and “alternative medicine” per se, but I am definitely against quackery, which abounds in the world.

Unfortunately, the Russians are old hands at this kind of pseudoscience. (Look up Lysenko.) Maybe things have changed for the better since then; I sure as hell hope so.

There’r some Chinese who still hate jp guts.

There’s a western canard which ask nonchalantly,
‘Why cant the Chinese let bygone be bygone and move on’ ?

The problem,
‘What if there’r,

No Punishment, Little Remorse

‘Head of the Unit 731 Partly because the Americans helped cover up the biological warfare program in exchange for its data, Gen. Shiro Ishii, the head of Unit 731, was allowed to live peacefully until his death from throat cancer in 1959. Those around him in Unit 731 saw their careers flourish in the postwar period, rising to positions that included Governor of Tokyo, president of the Japan Medical Association and head of the Japan Olympic Committee.

By conventional standards, few people were more cruel than the farmer who as a Unit 731 member carved up a Chinese prisoner without anesthetic, and who also acknowledged that he had helped poison rivers and wells. Yet his main intention in agreeing to an interview seemed to be to explain that Unit 731 was not really so brutal after all.

Asked why he had not anesthetized the prisoner before dissecting him, the farmer explained: “Vivisection should be done under normal circumstances. If we’d used anesthesia, that might have affected the body organs and blood vessels that we were examining. So we couldn’t have used anesthetic.”

When the topic of children came up, the farmer offered another justification: “Of course there were experiments on children. But probably their fathers were spies.”

There’s a possibility this could happen again,” the old man said, smiling genially. “Because in a war, you have to win.”

Every so often..a jibe is issued forth on this forum that is…well played, word-smithy, worth repeating, extremely rare but, it’s exceptions that prove the case. Excellent quip Tannenhouser 53…I was amused, I can see it be added to the American lexicon:

Vacuouslexia;

1] The condition of having nothing to say but, feeling compelled to say something utterly unintelligible and then..doing so.

2] A form of irony, an individual confusing their verbal diarrhea with thoughtful discourse [see banality].

3] Under-construction…[We’ll think of something else cruel to say about people who think too much of themselves].

Now Tannenhouser, if you could just get those over-posting-know-it-alls to stop believing they’re some much wittier reincarnation of Oscar Wilde holding court in some overly-trendy Manhattan gay-bar but…I digress.

Don’t mind me george. Have cranked a few motors in my time to get them started.
My son had a bit of an ongoing saga with a lighting plant engine. His missus would have to crank it for a long time to get it started. He was talking about starter motors and stuff so one day I offered to send him a chrome plated crank handle he could give her for Christmas. He said ‘no dad, she will throw it at me’. There was a bit of fear in his voice.

I had a look at it when I went up. No wonder his misus was cranky. It had a blown head gasket.
A new head gasket and a new set of rings and it would fire with half a turn. Marriage problems fixed.

https://karlof1.substack.com/p/us-will-drive-its-35t-debt-into-crypto

The issue raised by Kobyakov is not whether the U.S. can erase $35 trillion in liabilities through stablecoins. The more pressing question is whether the global financial system can withstand another shift in U.S. monetary rules without breaking trust in the dollar.

I believe that the answer is no because of the efforts of the China/Russia axis to move away from the jackboot of global private finance.

It’s easy to self-radicalise or get yourself into a negative spiral if you don’t keep an eye on the way you think and especially the younger generation gets very little help preventing this – because it makes them easier to manipulate for profit and/or politics.

Managing your thinking should IMHO be a mandatory school topic.

Someone far better with words than I’ll ever be wrote this:

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thought become YOUR WORDS.

Keep your words positive because your words become YOUR BEHAVIOR

Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes YOUR HABITS

Keep your habits positive because your habits become YOUR VALUES

Keep your values positive because your values become YOUR DESTINY”
