All early human societies – the mums would go gathering the fruit and veg with the kids and the dads would go hunting to put some meat on the table. The mums and kids was very much a community affair. Lots of aunts for the kids. Worked well in a small society.

TO GET AWAY FROM OIL !
Posted by: Eighthman | Sep 19 2025 21:00 utc | 177
I wouldn’t be so hasty there, efficient electricity use requires efficient insulators, many of which are made from thermoplastics derived from … hydrocarbons.
Unless we intend going back to insulating cables with paper and rubber, both of which will need their own energy inputs to produce.
The hydrocarbon content of a solar panel might surprise some people.
Civilised humanity, as it currently stands, cannot truly and completely abandon hydrocarbons, there are too many second and third order dependencies.

This is about as sensible as claiming that ‘global warming’ is caused by the exhaust heat of combustion engines. Compare the plastic used in a car to the amount of fuel it consumes over a typical lifespan for an example.

Demography is destiny.
And to this whole exasperatingly stupid argument about how since animals do something it somehow means humans should do it to…
Animals kill and eat their young. Animals perform infanticide, matricide, fratricide. Chimps will arm themselves and wipe out other chimp tribes. Many animals will cannibalize their own. This is just a shorty little list, there’s far more.
The fact that animals do something is a meaningless red herring.
People that make these arguments are arguing that they are animals, not humans.
Be careful, if you want to be treated like animals, that day will come.

Posted by: Archetypex | Sep 20 2025 0:34 utc | 204 My god this is stupid even for a Trumper. It’s the conservatives who’ve been talking about what’s natural. But I will concede they may be the animals in this discussion even if this clown can’t find the correct reason.
Let me note for the record, the hate campaigns they promote target not just transgender people, but intersex people, people with variant development of sex organs, homely women, pretty men, and basically any person who doesn’t fit a rigid stereotype, up to and including straight women who didn’t breed like a natural woman is made for. Again, I say, the unspoken premise that children are an endangered species is insanely stupid. And the plea that the collateral damage from their hate campaign will be a relatively small minority is not a justification: It’s a self-condemnation!
I confess, I am no more immune to prejudices about sexuality than anyone else. I know this, so if I don’t understand transgender, I don’t freak out, fall fainting to the floor clutching my pearls like these assholes. And when my personal prejudices tell me that shitty people like this were ruined by shit mothers, I tell myself, try not to be narrow-minded and abusive. After all, it could be the congenital syphilis has damaged their brains. It’s not like they could have picked a decent woman for their mother.

However, we have by far outstripped all of the animal kingdom.
Humans reign supreme on earth.
We may still be technically mammals, but we’re definitely the next rung on the ladder, humans. Differentiated from all other mammals in many ways.
In a thousand years, we may not be technically mammals OR humans.

Not the man’s job to police the bedroom.
And I don’t believe that the nuclear family is everything.
People need to be conscious of the emptiness inside of them. If they look hard enough, the feeling of anxiety that comes of it is inescapable.
But this is to our benefit, this anxiety, contrary to what modernism will tell you.
In this modern world, we are so advanced that now we can fit ourselves into neat little categories and dwell that way for life, suppressing any way we can that gnawing sense of lack.
But any identity we don doesn’t last.
Heidegger’s Introduction to Metaphysics is so instructive as an introduction to the notion of identity he eventually elaborated on in a refined lecture.
Phusis, the emerging, abiding sway, is how being reveals itself from concealment. Modernists have translated this as nature, and so we notice that we have immediately strayed from an experience of phusis to the scientifically quantifiable and affixed.
What else but running away from this anxiety of experience in phusis could be the donning of static identities that trap us in everydayness?
Intro to Metaphysics has been a good start for me in understanding Heidegger or at least the attempt at following/charting his line of thinking. All the great thinkers, from Kierkegaard, to Wittgenstein, to Heidegger seem to write about this liberation from epistemology into something far more pressing and at-hand.
And Heidegger is a good writer to boot.
In a well-remembered passage from Intro to Metaphysics, Heidegger writes that he was sitting on a bench near the university lake or pond, and he notices the rowing team in good rowing pattern coming closer and moving past him as he was spectating.
He noticed a rower looking at him with a very strange look, at once completely absorbed by Heidegger’s presence. You know the scene: you catch a stranger staring at you and it is not necessarily sexual or the look from a predator. It is those moments of unconcealment that give us an inkling into experience as phusis, where you can see the face of another staring at you and experiencing you as the strange and unquantifiable.
If I can add anything else, it is that to run from our thrownness is a sad sad thing. You are not your job. You are not who you have sex with.
Derrida is also instructive on the prison of everydayness or modern epistemology, because he says that it makes us use assumptions and infer where delayed judgement is needed.
An example would be screwing up at work. You are a weak, effeminate and unprofessional from then on. Or, like Derrida says here, eating potato chips on camera: “you must be a fanatic of chips.”

Given that I have healed my TBI with neuromodulation therapies like QEEG I resonated well with the following posting
The Pandemic of Fake Psychiatric Diagnoses
https://brownstone.org/articles/the-pandemic-of-fake-psychiatric-diagnoses/
Quote

What people should realise is that it is part of being human to have difficulties that can be handled better if we don’t give people psychiatric diagnoses and drugs. Difficulties often have a cause that has nothing to do with being ill, e.g. poverty, trauma, inadequate housing, social injustice, marital problems, discrimination, exclusion, bereavement, unemployment, and financial insecurity. Life is not easy, but if you have difficulty coping with its challenges, you can easily get one or more psychiatric diagnoses.

Sami mentions a patient information leaflet on antidepressants produced by a British national mental health service that includes the following advice:

It can sometimes take weeks, months or even years, to get the right medicine at the right dose for you. Think of it as a bit like dating. Some make you feel sick or sleepy; some are great to start with but wear off; others may not be much to start with but after a while grow on you. Then you might have found the one that makes you feel good long-term. So don’t lose hope if the first one doesn’t work.

It is an illusion to think that if you wait long enough and try enough drugs, one will work for you. Most mental health issues become better with time, without any treatment, which is misinterpreted as a drug effect, and research has shown that it doesn’t help to change drugs or increase the dose of drugs.

Like me, Sami is a member of the Critical Psychiatry Network based in England. My experience with lecturing for psychiatrists has led me to believe that over 99% of psychiatrists are uncritical towards their practice. Think about it. This is why psychiatric drugs are the third leading cause of death and why psychiatry as a profession does far more harm than good.
Don’t our kids and friends deserve better than this?

Hear, Hear! psychiatric drugs are the third leading cause of death
The dysregulation of neural networks is the new mental health paradigm. Stop the Big Pharma bio-chemical approach and embrace the growing bio-electric paradigm

I hate to interrupt the ribald flirting — pretty much par for the course in this permanently out-of-control, off-all-topics thread. I thought perhaps my fellow barflies might appreciate a Candace update. So kind of me: I watch Candace so you don’t have to!
Larry Johnson initially spurred my interest in Candace over her fearless investigations of Epstein. In today’s column Johnson directs readers interested in Charlie Kirk developments to go see what Candace is digging up. Either she’s doing groundbreaking journalism, or Larry has as bad a crush on her as Aleph’s, or it might be a little of both.
Candace describes a frenzied crescendo of attacks as she refuses to stop asking questions about huge holes in the FBI lone-gay-gunman scenario. She cultivates a network of connections through her tip line, which has yielded more accurate, current info on Kirk’s murder than is available anywhere else. For instance: she got (for now, exclusive) access to a video filmed by a camera behind Kirk’s chair; she reports for the first time there’s apparently no exit wound — no blood visible behind.
What does that mean? For one thing, the bullet they’re looking for is something for the coroner to find. I’m ignorant of guns, myself. I’ve heard that a .30-06 round would have gone through the back of the tent.

Posted by: Aleph_Null | Sep 20 2025 7:06 utc | 246

I am sorry to say, this thread has degenerated badly. Please, gentlemen, clean up your act. And that means most of you dwelling on the subject of sexual preferences. Please take your hangups elsewhere.
There IS a matter that can be discussed here, and that is the situation when a man and another man, or a woman and another woman, love one another. LOVE one another. Sadly the kind of talk being proffered here eliminates this important discussion. It is important because in such a situation — never mind how they express this love, which is a private matter — other disturbed persons have made ugly assertions which offend and shame such legitimate person to person affection. They shame it, and some of those experiencing these emotions, especially if they are young, either feel compelled to lash out, or they selfdestruct.
I say it is important to discuss this in an open and nonjudgmental manner, because it would seem to be the chief reason why Charlie Kirk was killed. Such language as has been crudely expressed here, particularly on this segment of the open thread, apparently shamed the individual who (rightly or wrongly) felt victimized by it and killed Charlie Kirk!
So stop it, all of you who are doing this!! Have some compassion!

In today’s column Johnson directs readers interested in Charlie Kirk developments to go see what Candace is digging up.

I recommend visiting a less high profile but very good analysis by “Signal Before Silence”
Who Killed Charlie Kirk? The Wound, The Weapon & Why The Official Lie
I think the hypothesis that is emerging is plausible, plus it explains the missing rifle with the person jumping off the roof. In short, my interpretation:
– Her analysis of the bullet trajectory from images and videos indicates entry from Kirk’s front left side (as seen by Kirk) and exit at the back of the neck. It seems to me the exit is on the same level or slightly above the entry. This is not compatible with a shot from the roof.
– Her analysis of images showing frantic activity to immediately remove cameras and erase virtually everything from the crime scene (including sones on the ground behind the tent) is a massive red flag pointing at pre-planned operation involving many people.
– In my current opinion, the most likely scenario is a gun mounted on one of the heavier camera tripods just in front of Kirk, with a camera allowing for remote controlled aiming and firing. The shot through the neck was not a miss, it was deliberate and easy.
– The apparent sound of a rifle coming from the roof ~200m away is explained by the guy on the roof with some device creating the sound of a rifle, in coordination with the remote controlled gun. This scenario also explains why no gun can be seen when he jumps off the roof, because he didn’t have a gun, but instead some smaller device making the sound of a rifle based on a radio signal that also triggered the real gun.
– The “Signal Before Silence” analysis shows many people behaving very suspiciously at the crime scenes immediately after the murder, one person may be seen removing the remote controlled gun.
– The repeated public denial from Netanyahu….

It’s as if we’ve been MK Ultra-ed to the max, but done on the cheap this time: we’re not being dosed with a psychotropic agent stronger than propagandized bamboozlement. There’s no Orange Sunshine.
Being MK Ultra-ed to the max means one must completely turn one’s back on the reality of Charlie Kirk's assassination and embrace increasingly delusional interpretations of the event that appear loopily divorced from physical evidence.
The “leftist lunatic” is part of a script used to distract us in a sequential fashion, like an unfolding series of new but inconsequential revelations, doled out in dribs & drabs that keep us from realizing that the professional sniper who killed Charlie is long gone now, completely out of reach.
The script unfolded like this:
First, came the Mauser rifle, found wrapped in a towel in a “wooded area,” a left-behind screwdriver lying nearby suggesting dismantlement.
Next, came the ammo cartridges on which were engraved messages that appeared to reference transgender issues, also antifa messages.
After that, the sweeping footage of a lanky indistinct figure running across a roof, then climbing down part of the building before dropping 12 feet from a ledge to the ground below. Unlike John Wilkes Booth, who also jumped after his bullet found its mark, this alleged assassin does not break his leg. He runs across a grassy swathe and out of range of the surveillance camera.
As if in an artist’s rendering of an architectural structure on a college campus, which will one day be used as a sniper’s nest, random generic pedestrians walk within the radius of the surveillance camera’s lens, nonchalant and normal, their gait unhurried as they stroll by, while in a backdrop to the placid foregrounded scene an alleged sniper creeps stealthily away.
Before the script doled out these tidbits over the course of 30 hours, as if establishing the markers of the crime—-the Stations of the Cross if you will of how the assassination of Charlie Kirk went down—-the FBI detained and questioned two suspects. The first was released after about 90 minutes. Then came the second suspect. Ditto: interrogated and released.
Both detentions ate up valuable time and signaled a Target Fixation on swiftly nailing someone/anyone. The actual sniper’s trail had already gone cold once the second Person of Interest was let go.
The FBI released photos of the alleged assassin. We saw a slender face hidden largely under the brim of a ball cap and often turned to one side so as to nullify a strong impression.
It was like looking at an AI-manufactured photo of a generic-someone/anyone who did not actually exist. Sometimes we saw the alleged assassin in a stairwell, going up the stairs, sometimes going down.
On cue at this point, the nytimes began to bash the FBI’s handling of the case: “Whether Kash Patel can overcome his early stumbles in the Kirk investigation remains to be seen. The F.B.I. director’s actions have already invited scorn and scrutiny from the bureau’s work force, and some senior officials at the Justice Department, who think his behavior has eroded public confidence in the F.B.I.”
Meanwhile, a father in Utah had already persuaded his son to turn himself in to a state marshal.
Next came the lengthy text message thread, which also felt scripted or *written* in order to reinforce a narrative about the assassin which was shaping up: leftist lunatic kills Charlie in order to protect his transitioning beloved from Charlie’s political project.
Weirdly, the alleged assassin’s portions of the text messages were markedly verbose & gabby: thick w/ explanations, strangely dense when one considers the snippets typical of the text message genre.
The FBI continued to release info in dribs & drabs: that the alleged assassin arrived at the Utah college campus in *one* set of clothes but then changed to his *sniper-on-the-roof clothes* and then changed back to the original clothes.
The Mauser rifle found stashed in the “wooded area” fires 30-06 rounds, which are more than 3-inches long, the kind of ammo used to take down elk & other large game. It typically doles out massive damage. Candace’s research leads her to surmise that the Mauser rifle found in the “wooded area” can’t have been the sniper’s rifle because the bullet which took Charlie’s life did not produce the expected damage.
Since the FBI’s info continues to come out in dribs & drabs, we still don’t know if a ballistic test has happened. We don’t know if the FBI has matched the killing round to the Mauser rifle.
Candace is bull-dogging this.

Take a look at Switzerland.
In the past, Switzerland had the concept of “armed neutrality”: a well-defended Switzerland that stays out of others’ conflicts. That changes with the Ukraine war. After US pressure, Switzerland sanctioned Russia and froze Russian money. And pressuring Switzerland is easy – Swiss banks need access to US financial markets.
A few years later there’s another US president in the White House. And whatever Switzerland did for the Biden administration no longer counts. But the carefully crafted image of Swiss neutrality is no longer. Russian FM Lavrov describes Switzerland as openly hostile. And not being seen as neutral is going to cost Switzerland money, too.
It is open to discussion whether Switzerland has ever been neutral. Nobody is surprised when Switzerland buys American F-35 fighter jets. The Swiss air force does not fly Russian Sukhoi, or Chinese Chengdu J-20, because the Swiss choice of fighter jet is a political decision, showing fealty, not a technical decision, choosing best price-quality.
But in the past Switzerland at least put up appearances of being neutral. That is gone.

Thanks Norwegian for the link. I have been waiting to start looking into the assassination as I figured there would be a lot of incorrect information, perhaps even 3LA rabbit holes.
I’ve heard that a .30-06 round would have gone through the back of the tent.
Posted by: Aleph_Null | Sep 20 2025 7:06 utc | 246
I have limited knowledge, but There are Youtube videos of equivalent demonstrations. .30-06 would have left a gaping bloody hole in the back of his neck/upper chest and possibly kill someone else directly behind.
I heard he may have had some thin body armor, and assuming concealable, level 3a is likely. The higher level armor is more bulky, but maybe there has been high tech innovations. Maybe someone else knows more.
.30-06 vs. level 3a armor and the bullet goes right through and the person is likely dead. 3+ or 4 and he might have lived, there are armor piercing and steel core rounds that changes the equation. More than a few Youtube videos on that specific topic graphically show the results. That thinner armor may prevent the bullet from passing all the way through. There are many physical variables.

I thought the time had expired for the Euro twits to do the snapback. The Europeans make a deal then break it and try and sanction Iran because they themselves have broken the deal. If that is the case though, then the UN is dead. I can’t see Russia and China abiding by that when Iran has done its bit.

I watched the video at the time and haven-t looked at it since. The bullet hit him in the neck. No strike on body armour. There appeared to be people standing behind him but none were hit. I thought at the time it must have been a pistol bullet. A 30-06 would have gone straight through and hit whoever was behind him. One bloke behind him but a bit off to the side was clearly signalling.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Sep 20 2025 9:38 utc | 264

Peter AU1. (258).
And there’s this as well.
Iran has condemned as “unlawful, unjustified and provocative” the European attempt to restore United Nations sanctions under the so-called snapback mechanism.
The reaction came after the UN Security Council on Friday voted against a draft resolution that would have permanently lifted sanctions linked to Iran’s nuclear program.
Nine members opposed the measure, while Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria backed it, and two abstained. As a result, the UN sanctions against Iran will be re-imposed by September 28 if no agreement is reached.
In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the move amounted to “an unlawful, unjustified and provocative act” that undermines ongoing diplomatic processes.
The Ministry said, “The destructive actions by three European countries (Britain, France and Germany) to reinstate the annulled UN Security Council resolutions come at a time when Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities were attacked and damaged by the Israeli regime and the United States.”
It said these attacks violate the UN Charter, endanger international peace and security, and severely undermine the foundations of the non-proliferation regime.
The Ministry added that, “The three European countries not only declined to condemn these aggressive actions by Israel and the United States but also perpetrated a dual violation by abusing the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism.”
The statement outlined five points, noting that the European action completes the process of reviving canceled resolutions and “seriously weakens” diplomacy.
The ministry highlighted that the full responsibility for the consequences lies with the United States and the E3, which “misrepresented facts, made unfounded allegations, and pressured some non-permanent Council members.”
The measure lacked consensus and went ahead despite strong opposition from several Council members, damaging both the credibility of the body and the non-proliferation regime, noted the statement.
Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and reflects the will of its people to pursue scientific and technological progress, noted the ministry, adding that Tehran will defend its rights, including through diplomacy, while “reserving the right to respond to any unlawful measures.”
Finally, it urged all responsible members of the international community to reject the European action and avoid granting it legitimacy.

Russia’s Permanent Representative Nebenzya on the fact that Baerbock banned speaking for more than three minutes at the UN:
I have no personal feelings towards Annalena Baerbock because I do not know her personally. [Don’t you want to get to know her?] I will have to do so one way or another, so whether I want to or not is another question. But she has already made a name for herself, leaving a mark in history with her clumsy statements as Germany’s Foreign Minister, militant, cynical, and sometimes offensive. She became famous for many catchphrases, such as “a 360-degree turn.”
As for her, one EU representative told me how she came to a meeting with her European colleagues, and they asked her what her priorities at the UN were. She told them: “My priorities at the UN are that member states do not speak for more than three minutes from the General Assembly podium.”

Of course Israel’s defence comes first, and the invasion of Venezuela is on the cards as well so, and probably one or two other Central and South American countries as well. The American taxpayer is getting screwed out of cash at every turn.
“The US has ‘quietly’ paused sales of certain weapons to its European allies, The Atlantic has reported. The Trump administration is seeking to stockpile arms as part of its ‘America First’ agenda.
Washington has provided Kiev with over $67 billion in arms and military assistance since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. Most of the deliveries were made under the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
The Pentagon has now identified some weapons as being in short supply and is moving to block new requests for those systems from NATO countries, the outlet said in an article on Friday.
The unnamed current and former US administration officials who spoke to The Atlantic could not say how long the hold will last or name the exact hardware on the list.
According to the report, the first evidence of a shift in policy was the Pentagon’s recent decision not to go ahead with the sale of “a multibillion-dollar” Patriot air-defense system to Denmark, despite US and French negotiators previously pressuring Copenhagen to make the purchase.”

Yes when presented with a more formidable force such as Russia, Nato look positively weak, Trump appears to be disinterested in Ukraine now – but the EU is desperate to see the USA push harder against Russia.
As for MH17, the Russian weren’t even allowed to submit any evidence or participate in with the inquiry into the downing of the flight, which was shotdown using a BUK missile (older version) that was widely available in Ukraine, but not used by Russia.
Maybe the West shot down the MH117 flight because a Malaysian court found Bush and Blair guilty of war crimes (in Iraq) in absentia – Just a thought – no I’m sure it was to blame Russia.

“US President Donald Trump has refused to approve a weapons package for Taiwan, the Washington Post reported on Friday, citing five people familiar with the matter.
The Post linked the decision to Trump’s efforts to negotiate a trade deal with Beijing and his potential meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which is expected to take place on the sidelines of the APEC summit in South Korea next month.
The weapons deal, reportedly worth more than $400 million, had been described as “more lethal” than previous deliveries. According to the Post, Trump’s team believes Taiwan should purchase its own weapons, reflecting the president’s “transactional” approach to foreign policy. A White House official told the outlet that the decision has not yet been finalized.”

When our public dispute started going sideways, what was Kirk’s response?
He pushed for more conversation, not more silencing or censorship.
He pushed for more civility, not more stridency or venom.
Whatever you think of Kirk’s legacy, that simple fact is commendable — and it’s something that everyone should uphold and seek to replicate.
