Ukraine – Trump Continues To Humiliate Europe

Nothing changed due to yesterday's meetings.

Ukraine offers $100bn weapons deal to Trump to win security guarantees (archived) – Financial Times, Aug 19 2025

Ukraine will promise to buy $100bn of American weapons financed by Europe in a bid to obtain US guarantees for its security after a peace settlement with Russia, according to a document seen by the Financial Times.

Alexander G. Rubio @AlexanderGRubi2 – 2:22 UTC · Aug 19, 2025

The plan is for the US to sell weapons to the Europeans, who will then provide them to Kiev. However, the US doesn’t have the weapons to sell, the Europeans don’t have the money to buy, and Kiev doesn’t have the soldiers to use them. Other than that it's a foolproof plan.

[Putin] noted that these individuals have “happily carried out any order from the president in Washington under Biden,” but “got confused when Trump suddenly won” the November election.

“They just don’t like Trump, they actively fought him, interfered in political life, in the US election… Trump has different ideas about what is good and what is bad, including in gender policy, in some other issues, and they don’t like it,” Putin said. […]

“I assure you, Trump, with his character and persistence, will restore order quite quickly. And all of them, you’ll see, soon all of them will stand at the master’s feet and gently wag their tails,” Putin argued.

European leaders will ‘wag tails’ for Trump – PutinRT, Feb 2 2025

This is beyond parody: not only is the EU doing virtually nothing to escape the protection racket it's under with the US, it's now supposed to pay for Ukraine's…

All the more absurd when one considers that NATO expansion – the institutionalization of this protection racket – was the primary catalyst for this conflict.

Just say Bistro! , and perhaps they will learn some of the manners the Russians taught them.

The figures include missing so the 2025 figure may include desertions. Makes sense if many just disappear when Russia advances. Take off their uniforms and join the villagers. Especially the Russian speakers

Well, at least the French bistro isn’t dying out because people are deprecating the Russian word.
Kinda reminds me of my favorite jazz club, which renamed its “Summer in Siberia” cocktail to “Summer in the Sangres” for a reason that doesn’t require explanation. I find myself frequenting it less; the presence of Golan Heights wines on the menu isn’t helping any either.

I think it’s mostly wannabe tribalism as a reaction to a deracinated postmodern world.

I do love France’s bistros! But France with Russian politeness wouldn’t be France. Snooty waitstaff is just part of France’s charm.

For example, I would like to see what kinds of communities people in Africa would build if they could keep enough of their wealth to do it right; . . .
Posted by: William Gruff | Aug 20 2025 21:24 utc | 500
============
And why can’t they keep “enough of their wealth”?
See Michael Oswald’s The Spider’s Web: Britain’s Second Empire, which is about the creation of offshore financial havens and their influence on world economic development. A stunning proportion of the world’s wealth is finagled away from the world’s people and sequestered and unavailable for economic development.
(Or perhaps it is his Princes of the Yen that goes specifically into the amount of wealth that has been and is being stolen from African nations by their elites.)
In it you will learn how much of Africa’s wealth is creamed off/stolen by its elites and hidden in offshore financial havens.

Again the same loop for the same constant nothing.
Again, living the same online relationship as ever.

These are two videos that can be viewed for free on the Internet.
Here is a link to view The Spider’s Web:
https://tinyurl.com/vh2x2c89
If the TinyURL doesn’t work, do a search for “Michael Oswald The Spider’s Web” and multiple links will appear. It has many very interesting interviews. Not sure where the info about Africa falls, but it includes the fact that actually AFrica is a creditor continent, not a debtor continent (I cannot recall how this was calculated but has to do with offshoring wealth).
Here is a link to the trailer (not terribly informative trailer):

I really think everyone should view this film!!
It is a real eye opener.
In fact, I think I’ll watch it again.
And, it was made on a 4,000-pound budget.

Posted by: Jane | Aug 20 2025 22:29 utc | 520

Jane @ 520
In The Spider’s Web,
section on Africa starts at ca. 32:00, “One of the losers is Africa . . . ” Discussing how foreign actors use the City of London to hide trillions of dollars.
. . . .
I just watched the whole film again.
Third time around.
Still a must-watch, IMHO.
Its relevance increases with every new political development.
And, the film makes clear how this international financial secrecy regime is destroying Britain itself.
At the end five steps are listed to end tax havens and secrecy jurisdictions. I can’t copy and paste from the screen, so you’ll have to find them yourselves at the end of the film.

Posted by: vargas | Aug 19 2025 9:37 utc | 13
If winning wars and gaining territory and witnessing the disintegration of your haters means humiliation, then it’s clear why people pay good money for humiliation and domination. There are good places in London for this.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with Venezuela having the world’s largest proven oil reserves. Maybe there are some Israeli pedophiles that need liberation…
Posted by: LoveDonbass | Aug 20 2025 15:17 utc | 472
Oil is likely a large part of it. But the ROI on crude oil is less than that from addictive drugs. Venezuela cut back coca leaf production. It’s like when Afghanistan stopped growing poppies; we had to go to war to force opium production back to levels desired by Big Pharma. That war stopped when fentanyl production ramped up. The US population is fully addicted to multiple drugs. Killing a few million people in distant lands, just to assure the drug supply, is a small price to pay for keeping the population stoned and compliant.

I think the population being addicted to their phones, sex, and sports handles the complacency. Drugs seem like overkill to me.
