Some Thoughts On The Upcoming Summit

After reading some 20+ pieces about the upcoming Trump-Putin talks I still have no idea of what the outcome might be. Trump's uttering about the talks and Ukraine are, as usually, all over the place.

There seems to be some agreements already between the parties. If it were not so there would be no summit.

The Russian side is aiming at much more than Ukraine. The size and high ranks of its delegation is otherwise unexplained:

The Kremlin aide noted the very high level of the Russian delegation, which he said would include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Ushakov himself, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and Special Presidential Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries Kirill Dmitriev, who has been a key figure in the Ukraine settlement process.

“In addition to the presidents, five members from each delegation will participate in the negotiations,” he said, adding that “of course, a group of experts will also be nearby.”

There are nuclear weapon agreements that need an update and renewal. There are development opportunities in the Arctic and other economic aspects where both sides could win.

In fact, I suspect that there will be no decisions about the war in Ukraine.

The U.S. side knows that the war is a lost cause. Russia holds, as Trump has said, all the cards in that game. Whatever Trump does or says the war will be won on the ground by Russian forces. The best for him is to pull the U.S. out of the conflict and to leave the problem for the European vassals to solve.

For Russia the summit will be a big win even if there were no outcome. It has proven to global majority that it is reasonable and willing to go the extra mile to meet Trump even on U.S. territory. After this there will be no more pressure from China or India to stop the war.

Comments

RT has a good item describing the arrival of the entourage yesterday. Lavrov with his CCCP sweatshirt underneath his down vest was asked a few questions:

Q: Is this your first time in Alaska?
Sergey Lavrov: I have been here before.
Question: US President Donald Trump said today that he estimates the probability of failure at the talks at 25 percent. And what assessments do we give?
Sergey Lavrov: We never think anything ahead. We know that we have arguments, a clear and clear position. We will expound it.
Much has already been done during the visits of US Special Presidential Envoy Stephen Witkoff. President of Russia Vladimir Putin said this. Stephen Whitkoff spoke on behalf of President Donald Trump. I hope that tomorrow we will continue this useful conversation.
Question: Do you feel jitters?
Sergey Lavrov: And what is it?

I laughed at his last reply as his initial answers showed great confidence.

Tom Q. accuses Jane of being rich with no understanding of class divides.
Jane is rich imo, in learning — having worked as an editor, reading copiously.
Jane usually comments from a broad contextual perspective which is sometimes misinterpreted.
That is often quickly countered by her with sharp words which do not endear. She exemplifies working-class verve.

A synopsis of what became a PhD dissertation and then later a book which expanded and improved upon the former.

American Exception: Hegemony and the Dissimulation of the State
INTRODUCTION
The theory of a “dual state” posits that alongside the “democratic state” governed by constitutional logics and processes, there exists a “security state” that functions according to logics of hierarchy, secrecy, and security. This article seeks to empirically substantiate a disaggregation of the state that is more severe than the “dual state” theorized by Carl Schmitt, Hans Morgenthau, Ola Tunander, Peter Dale Scott, and others. I argue that the weight of the evidence provides sufficient support to justify a theory of the tripartite state—a radical revision to theories pertaining to the nature of liberal democratic states. If such a state has emerged, it is essential to critically examine the historical record so that we may understand its genesis and the prospects for its growth or diminishment.
These questions are increasingly relevant as the US government asserts more and more powers that would seem to violate liberal Western traditions, the US Constitution, and international law (such as it is). These controversial practices include mass surveillance, indefinite detention, torture, and assassination without due process. Although some of these are relatively recent developments in the American political experience, they have antecedents in various legally dubious practices that the United States has undertaken in the name of security. The most obvious examples of apparently illegal policies involve innumerable violations of other nations’ sovereignty, circumvention of laws regarding arms trading, alliances with organized crime, and suppression of constitutionally legitimate dissent. It is important to recognize that these exercises of administrative discretion have violated international law as well as constitutional and statutory limits on executive power. Likewise, it is crucial to note that the scale and the scope of these actions have been typically obscured and left unadjudicated.
These and other phenomena form the basis for theory which places at its center the “state of exception” and the dissimulation of the state. Ideally, such a framework may provide useful assumptions, heuristics, and epistemology for understanding, explaining, and even predicting political phenomena. Borrowing from scholars of international politics, this article seeks to situate the discussion in the context of the US pursuit of international hegemony.

I can't see Russia veering off course suddenly, and they've communicated that in the run up to this. So any attempt at coercion here would fail. So yeah, economics and finance are the only real discussion points for them. Trump fancies himself a finance guy, so we'll see what ideas he's got. The biggest outcome will be an accelerated collapse of the eurocuck/Zelensky Front. Trump and Putin could go golfing today and accomplish that, and probably should.

I have been in Australia, james– in Brisbane where there are wonderful flowering trees, kangaroos and koalas; and fern trees such as we have in New Zealand, the pongas. We were there when my oldest son was a toddler. He walked right up to a kangaroo and put his arm around her neck, natural as you please.
Australia has magnificent golfers, magnificent swimmers, magnificent cricket players – it was when I was growing up the land of magnificent athletes. We New Zealanders had Peter Snell and Richard Hadlee. Australia had the gold coast and the Great Barrier Reef.
Now it has the Sydney Harbour Bridge in stormy weather laden with citizens protesting the Gaza atrocities. Well done, Australia, our Big Brother; you set the tone.

Russia lost the Crimean War in 1856 to a European allies of France, UK and the Ottoman EMpire. After the loss in Crimea, Russia was weakened and was not able to defend its eastern front. In order to protect its eastern front Russia sold its Russian America colony – aka Alaska – in 1867 to USA to keep the British, who were ruling Canada at that time, at bay.
The Trump-Putin Summit in Alaska is symbolic in all aspects. If you consider Trump’s recent comments that “USA has been co-opted to do the bidding of the globalists in their forever wars” and his expressed desire to wean USA off of this nonsense, then the Alaska Summit can be better appreciated for its historical importance. It signals to the world that the forces that threatened both USA (at its inception) and Russia are the same forces trying to destroy both nations today.
Trump realizes that USA must abrogate itself from the destructive path it is co-opted and pushed into, and to do that it will need the BRICS as counterbalance and a new world order must emerge with improved global governance arrangements. Trump meeting Putin is to now prepare the path for a multi-polar world where BRICS will play a dominant role. This meeting will achieve several outcomes, one of which is to define a new security architecture for Europe, a plan for a Yalta-like summit between Trump-Putin-Xi (possibly next month in Beijing?), reform of the UNSC to include five new members – Brazil, India, South Africa, Germany and Japan. That is probably the reason why after Witkoff met Putin in Kremlin last week, Putin called all BRICS nations to inform them of the outcome of their discussions.
The Tumpr-Putin Alaska Summit of August 16th 2025 is probably the most consequential summit to herald the new world order.

One could be forgiven for speculating, given the recent context (on this very page of comments).

Too anti-Trump bias. Look at the results realistically: he massively advanced US power. He strong-armed weak vassals like Europe and Japan to the tune of $600 BILLION each – pure tribute. He openly violated WTO rules with mass tariffs against the world yet got most of them to LOWER their tariffs to US goods. He flipped Armenia and Azerbaijan from Russia. He overthrew Syria, took out loads of high-level Iranian leaders with zero repercussions, and are in the process of successfully ethnically cleansing Gaza.
Against Russia? He did the Crocus massacre, nuclear triad bomber attack, Iranian assassinations… yet he was still able to convince Putin to still stick his neck through the noose in Alaska. The lesson? Most of Humanity are spineless peace-lovers. Threaten effectively as a warmonger, and the tribute flows. Prove me wrong.

As I suspected, Putin did make a stop in Siberia on his way to Alaska–in Magadan–it just wasn’t the multiday trip I envisioned. For those unfamiliar with Russian geography, Magadan is due West of the Kamchatka peninsula and is a major port city. Putin did convene a meeting on the master plan for Magada’s development. I intend to post an article based on the Kremlin’s five reports to my substack in a few hours. The last event had Putin laying flowers at the monument to pilots of the Alaska-Siberia air route, a photo of it at the link.

I look for a nuclear non-proliferation treaty or update of an old discarded one today. Putin wants stability and the idea of the west even having to consider it might be attractive. Trump can call himself a statesman, like has never been seen in the world, and can use the ratification process to get or keep his type of guys in the US Congress over the 2026 election cycle.

I can be wrong and should be wrong but I’m only seeing temporary flight restrictions and delays and so on for Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC/PANC), a large cargo hub for air freight.
https://dot.alaska.gov/anc/
All anyone has to do is get their special cargo aboard a flight as normal freight. Should be simple for at least anyone with inside access to any state actor (to have the authority to wave things through or otherwise avoid any security) in the northern Pacific and maybe for “anyone”?
Extra shielding and the paperwork for hi-tech medical equipment or science stuff (or replacing something suitable of that kind) = all those sensors going off are a-okay and muy bueno; a good test that everything is working as intended…
Everything is under control and awesomely good (“USA! USA! USA!” 😛 ).
Detonate on close approach, landing, or taxi… taxiying… my spell checker suggests taxiing… 😛 😀 (an English word with “xii” in it! Something for people who like to make quiz questions?). I’m saying surface or near-surface detonation (lots of evil stuff kicked up and falling down).
I know it’s not saying much but plenty of movies have had a much worse or more outlandish plot 😛 (maybe some movie has already had this specific plot? Not as far as I know).
No direct hit is needed, the whole region would be instantly “hot”, lethally hot, much worse than Chernobyl. They could perhaps manage to call any loved ones if they’re lucky (surviving infrastructure on the base) and fast (their cells are already dying en masse) but there would be no escape.
Such drama. Suddenly a new world.
Look Ma! No submarine! 😀 (okay maybe I’m a bit bleak to make such a joke).
(Any overlap with current or future reality is purely accidental and unintended as such, only thinking out loud/wasting time).

was hope in the coming negotiations, many people were concerned about Putin. Oresheniks may have been ready to turn DC,Langley, the Pentagon & WallStreet to rubble.

In Russia they don’t let homosexuals have parades… because it would confuse the children. In Russia, the women are beautiful & the men stand straight & strong! Perhaps thats one of the reasons so many Americans & Brits hate Russia. Many thanks to B for keeping this site up!

Quote “The EU and MSM press are already talking about ceasefires and Uk peacekeeping troops and Uk air cover over western Ukronaziland. Its all delusional, nothing of the sort will happen.”
So England which has plotted Ukraine war like Syrian war too, is plotting to be over there in Ukraine as big Thorne on the neck of Russia .
Time for Russia to send some visits to England a few tipol missiles to an isolate pirate island

Putin has called Trump’s bluff, as expected. Recall that Trump warned just before the summit that there will be serious consequence if no deal is made. No deal was made indeed at the conclusion of the summit, then what ?
There had been unfounded fears that Trump would lay a trap in Alaska to trick Putin. In my mind this is absolute nonsense as Trump is only strong in optics but seriously lacking in substance while Putin is just the other way around. Trump can never ever outfox Putin.

Posted by: NGWY | Aug 16 2025 1:53 utc | 456

I think this meeting was simply a sobering wake up call for the US in the sense that it has been made it abundantly clear that an instantaneous ceasefire isn’t something feasible at the snap of a finger. That there are a lot preconditions that need to be met before that realistically happens and Russia, headed by Putin himself, presented their position as honestly and transparently as possible. So beyond all the ultimatums that won’t alter Russia’s position, the US can make a decision to either continue down the same path as their predecessors and lead Ukraine into more destruction and further unsustainable loses, or change course and be pragmatic for once in realizing that Russia’s core demands will have to be fulfilled some way or another.

Alaska, Before and After
Whatever the results, one is certain! The Earth will still revolve around the sun. There will be night and day. There will be tears and laughter. There will be idiots and wise people. Meanwhile, the time will continue to move towards infinity. And then, dear humans, one is the question! Or two!
WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?
WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE FOR EXISTENCE?
Let’s ask ourselves if we are habituating this planet because we want it to prosper? If yes, then our good deeds will stay as a guiding idea for the next generations. And if we achieve this, then everything else is easy. That is easy as follows.
FIRST, eliminate those forces that provoked war one and war two, and all other wars. Remove those individuals who corrupt people. Stop those who manipulate brains, as they do all this for their egoistic advantage!
SECOND, introduce promptly a humanistic education based on togetherness, on individuality that is subordinate to the group. Open all real, now hidden, historical archives, and start teaching young generations about it. Start teaching real physics and not one based on false pretenses and theories that can not be put into practice. Introduce back “old” techniques in all the fields of human activity. When this is done, develop AI based on those values!
Those are the two main causes of our today’s and any other troubles! Those forces have names and have whereabouts. Let’s start calling them what they are, the TRAITORS OF HUMAN BEINGS, AND LIFE ON OUR EARTH!
Many newly established “nations” from the Berlin Congress 1878 onward will be surprised learning the truth. However, that is better than living with lies all your life. That is the main reason why we can’t understand each other. Remember it! That is stopping us to work together for a paradise world! YES, PARADISE WORLD! Those who formed new nations from city-states or different regions maybe had a noble idea. However, with the new nation came a new language and a new way of thinking. MODERN WAY AS THEY SAY, WHERE NEW STEREOTYPES WERE INTRODUCED promoting utter stupidity and shortsightedness over simple common sense.
The creators of all these new lies knew how to enslave the human brain. Their idea was to introduce a new language and implant new stereotypes based on lies. They would declare it “modern.” This approach provided a crucial means of enslavement!
WE SURRENDERED OUR SOULS TO DIFFERENT NARRATIVES AND STEREOTYPES. THEY WERE INVENTED TO INSIDIOUSLY ATTACK OUR CONSCIOUSNESS. THIS DISABLED OUR INNATE GOODNESS, WHILE PLANTING SEEDS OF DOUBT, DISTRUST, AND FEAR. WE GOT STUCK, AND STILL MANY ARE STUCK.
The best way to fight these evils is through direct meetings. In these meetings, the truth, the one and only truth, is softly but firmly spoken.
Just remember how you will understand who has right and if you have right!
Analyze behavior, and you will see that whoever is refusing to talk and introducing sanctions of any kind has it wrong, including you if you refuse to talk! Not only has it wrong, but it also commits a crime. Be it against family members, against neighbors, against the city, town, country, and the whole world!
At Alaska meeting between President Trump and President Putin, talk, softly respectful talk has happened!
You had two people who wanted to talk and discuss the most difficult things. Do they agree on all? Of course not! They shouldn’t! But they talk! They communicate, and they exchange views and opinions.
Those two great leaders showed us a way to communicate between ourselves. We should not be afraid of differences. We should be happy that they exist!
Let’s start with the family. Many times, one part excludes the other part. They plant lies and half-truths. Based on them, they refuse to change carefully established narratives or stereotypes! If we start with our family and succeed, we will cure the world! If not, you can have the best talent for anything. However, you will always be “eaten” by a planted narrative. In most situations, this grows to irreversible hatred that has cost primarily to you and your existence. You put all your future in danger. And that brings catastrophe to all, including those who planted it. That’s nature’s law, or KISMET, or KARMA. NO USEFUL MEDICINE EXCEPT THE HEALING DISCUSSION. NOT PSYCHOLOGICAL BUT PURE SOUL, THE ONE THAT THE SAME SCIENCE OF PSYCHOLOGY VILELY ABANDONED.
Yesterday, KISMET, KARMA, AND NATURAL LAWS STARTED TO TREAT, TO CURE THEMSELVES. The meeting of the two presidents went smoothly and respectfully. The plain truth has been softly spoken.
The medicine has been applied. We are awaiting the reaction of evil forces. These forces do not want to any talk with Russia. As it might be seen soon, they also do not want to talk to America!
BUT AT LEAST, THEY ARE NOW IN WIDE OPEN MODE AND THUS EASIER TO BE DEALT WITH.
The message from ALASKA IS THE ANSWER TO THE SECOND QUESTION:
WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE FOR EXISTENCE?
SIMPLE! IT IS TO OVERWHELM THE EARTH WITH OUR GOOD DEEDS, UNDERSTANDING, HUMANITY, COMPASSION, TOGETHERNESS!
THE REST WILL BE DONE BY THE NATURAL LAWS.

I was very disappointed in the coverage of the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, by the “Western” (cough cough) MSM.
I wasn’t a bit surprised that no-one bothered to ask Neocon Victoria Nuland what she thought of the meeting?
Did they deliberately miss a Golden Opportunity to ask her who got the $5 Billion she coughed up to topple the Ukrainian Government in 2014?

Thank you for this brilliant, I will say, tractate. Very, very important.
Rarely have I seen the most fundamental human matters so clearly yet succinctly stated.

Just to sum up
Putin went and returned, no kidnapping, no killing, business as usual
Putin did not sell out Russia, no surrender, root causes , business as usual
Trump did not throw a tantrum
“A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late night phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European Leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO. It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up. President Zelenskyy will be coming to D.C., the Oval Office, on Monday afternoon. If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin. Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Putin again tried very hard to get himself Epsteined while selling out Russia and again completely failed. Too bad for him, no one wants anything to do with him or with Russia, nothing to gain from either, weak. Putin’s failure to sell out and get himself killed is the clearest sign to date of Russia’s complete international isolation. Their economy is in complete tatters, forcing them to hold meetings close to their home borders in territory whose ownership is disputed. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Adding to @464,
I should have emphasized, on territory which they themselves used to control!! What a humiliation for Putin! Tell me again how Russia is winning?

Suggest you read “The American Holocaust” by David Stannard, the most well researched and definitive account of the conquest of America.
While you are at it, “A small matter of genocide” by Ward Churchill too. And spare me links describing Ward’s hounding by White Academia.

After all the Hype one big damp squib..Trump sent a begging letter to his supporters…”,
“I’m meeting with Putin in Alaska! It’s a little chilly. THIS MEETING IS VERY HIGH STAKES for the world. The Democrats would love nothing more than for ME TO FAIL. No one in the world knows how to make deals like me!”
Trump’s ““We really made some great progress,” Trump said without revealing any details of what that progress was.
“I’m going to start making a few phone calls and tell them what happened, but we had an extremely productive meeting and many points were agreed to,” Trump said. “There are just a very few that are left. Some are not that significant, one is probably the most significant. But we have a very good chance of getting there, we didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.”
If you can decipher any sense from that GOOD LUCK!

Footnote from American history, Alaska was purchased from Russia and there is no question of the validity of the transfer of title…unless you’re one of those people who think the only valid titles are held by indigenous peoples?

In response to Tichy@466,
Russophrenia is a serious mental illness and no laughing matter. For only a 5$ monthly donation to Ukraine, your aid can keep one of its victims clothed and fed and, most importantly, disincentivized from seeking recovery.

The word that came to my mind was pastiche, @Skiffer has neatly encapsulated pretty well every troll talking-point and served the whole lot back at them; pre-emptive counter-trolling, as it were.
It only lacked mention of washing machine chips and shovels, but then again there’s no point over-embellishing things, I admire the restraint…
