As Gaza starves, GoFundMe accused of blocking ‘millions of dollars’ raised
GoFundMe is accused of unfair restrictions and financial freezes on Palestinian aid fundraisers.
GoFundMe has been accused of blocking “millions of dollars” of life-saving aid from reaching Gaza.
Charity leaders, activists and desperate Palestinians in Gaza have condemned the crowdfunding website for shutting down or blocking withdrawals for Palestine-related fundraising pages – and have accused bosses of having “blood on their hands”.
Despite questions from Al Jazeera, the company has not revealed the amount of money raised on its platform for Gaza that has been frozen in its system or has been refunded to donors.
But it has told Al Jazeera that more than $300m has been raised on the platform for both Palestinians and Israelis since Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel in 2023 and the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza.
Hala Sabbah, the founder of mutual aid group The Sameer Project, said that in September, more than $250,000 of donations to her organisation was refunded.
The London-based NGO-sector worker described the closure of her GoFundMe page as a “disaster” for her group’s efforts to provide emergency aid in the enclave.
The Sameer Project runs a camp for displaced people in Deir el-Balah, providing healthcare and essentials to its residents – paid for by money that, until now, had been raised through GoFundMe, totalling more than $1m. It also funds food, water, shelter and clothing for people across Gaza.
Sabbah said she was “treated like scum” by GoFundMe, despite her group’s pages raising about $44,000 for it in transaction fees.
“Our GoFundMe page had daily updates with complete cost breakdowns of every single initiative we did – everything was well-documented, with receipts,” she said. […]

The last two weeks corresponding to the start of the 12 day war has seen a significant jump in reports of "critical incidents" (mass casualty events) for the IDF.
Why might this be? Perhaps:
a) Operation True Promise III forced the IDF to draw resources away from Gaza, allowing the resistance to reorient and gain better ambush positions?
b) Iran and others were able to funnel more resources to the resistance via previously blocked routes?
I think a bit of both.
The question now is:
"how has Iran's retaliation damaged israel's operations in the Gaza strip and can the IDF both recover and prepare for the next Iranian operation?"
In any case, I forsee weeks of IDF mass casualties to come until the IDF recovers from the operational shock of the 12 day war ...
(We will not speak of Hezbollah now)

They were brand new when I saw them. Lots of buzz. Went to Wax Tax Records and with my vinyl purchase they handed me free tickets. OK, Sunday night, walking distance, why not? Within minutes of arriving discovered everyone was there on a free ticket.. Half industry people, half club regulars. But no one paid.
And it was a snooze. No applause whatsoever. Best review from an audience member was "B+ rock and roll". The industry types were telling me there was tons of promo and push behind this band. There were supposed to be two sets, audience so unresponsive they left stage fifteen minutes into second set. Not even one moment when audience or musicians seemed to much care.

I actually came here to discuss something else, that is the prevalence of greedy scamming by so many types posing as resistance fighters when really all they want to do is profit outta other people's misery.
This morning on you tube I thought I'd take a look at what the net had to say about bob vylan's set at glastonbury. When I went to YT and did a search I found 30 listings of assorted tv channels and pod casters whining about how violent it was to call for death tgo an organisation not the people in it whilst they regularly called for the deaths of humans in Gaza, the west bank & russia and cop zero backlash for that.
Then I got to number 31 which was a channel I had subscribed top but gave up on when I discovered that about 90% of the podcast involves repeating racist, islamophobic claptrap, allegedly as way to 'show it up'. However this poison is always unedited containing all of the rank remarks. Makes me sick because it is apparent the creep who 'runs' janta ka reporter allows all that shit in so he can make more money from you tube and rumble.
I don't need to hear/see it all and I do not believe anyone else who is halfway sane wishes to either, yuet like too many other podcasters this bloke repeats it all. WHY? According to the soldier’s account, the contractors’ campaign of destruction brings them and their small security units dangerously close to humanitarian aid distribution points set up by the US and the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. These sites are frequently crowded with Palestinians in urgent need of food and assistance.
The report indicated that, in order to ensure their own safety, contractors provoke security incidents to receive additional military protection, which often results in Israeli soldiers opening fire on Palestinians gathered near these aid sites. These incidents have led to the deaths of several civilians suffering from hunger.
The article concludes: “In order for a contractor to earn an additional 5,000 shekels, a decision is made that it’s acceptable to kill Palestinian individuals who are looking for food.”

Last Friday, the UN Security Council began a discussion for a resolution to end the food distribution in Gaza run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). It is going to to be discussed again today (Monday, 6/30). At the meeting on Friday, the UN representative from Russia read from reports that confirm drugs are being secreted into flour bags provided by the GHF. This is, of course, a form of chemical warfare. Using food as a weapon is a war crime and luring starving people to food sites and then killing them is a war crime. Staving people to death is a war crime. Killing civilians is a war crime. If anyone is keeping track.
