Lies Used To Justify War On Iraq Get Reused To Wage War On Iran

Former CIA officer Larry Johnson opines:

I believe that Israel’s attack was part of a planned international intelligence and military operation, which included the participation and support of the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. We got the first clue on May 31, when a UN watchdog issued two reports designed to create a narrative that Iran is a rogue nuclear state:

This tactic was employed in 2002/2003 to gin up a justification to attack Iraq, who the US insisted had weapons of mass destruction. We now know it was a lie, but the propaganda was effective in producing support in the US and Europe to invade Iraq. We’re seeing a similar effort today, only this time Iran is being falsely accused of enriching uranium to build a bomb. The Iraq WMD lie, like the current calumny against Iran, only has one purpose… justify military action in order to achieve regime change.

I have previously detailed the current IAEA operation to blame Iran over some alleged nuclear contamination which were found more than two decades ago.

During the build-up to the 2003 war on Iraq there was another lie that famously used to 'justify' the attack.

It was alleged that Iraq's leader Saddam Hussein was in cahoots with al-Qaeda, a terrorist group that had been created by the U.S. in Pakistan to fight against the Soviet supported government of Afghanistan.

Al-Qaeda was alleged to have committed attacks in the U.S. on 9/11 2001. Associating Iraq, which had fought against al-Qaeda inspired groups, with al-Qaeda itself was the second most cited lie used to justify the U.S. war on Iraq.

It is no wonder than that a similar narrative is now suddenly being build with regards to Iran.

David Ignatius, the unofficial CIA spokesman at the Washington Post, was told to publish this nonsense (archived):

But Iran has other means to hit back. One that has received little attention is its relationship with al-Qaeda affiliates. According to former U.S. counterterrorism officials, Tehran has built good relations with the new “de facto” al-Qaeda “emir,” Saif al-Adel, who took over in 2023 after Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed. These former officials say Adel helped manage WMD planning for Osama bin Laden.

The al-Qaeda affiliate in Yemen may pose a special danger. It’s headed by Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, who posted a chilling video this month threatening U.S. officials. “Go after the scum of the earth and its greatest criminals,” he urged his followers, naming Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and former DOGE chief Elon Musk. “There are no red lines after all that has been happening to our people in Gaza,” he said. According to the Jerusalem Post, Awlaki urged Muslims in Europe and America to make sure there is “not a single safe place” for Jews.

Who would be those "former U.S. counterterrorism officials"? Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, or some other notorious liars?

Saif al-Adel, the "de facto" never declared leader of Al-Qaeda has since 2001 been rumored to be in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Egypt and Iran where he allegedly was once under house arrest and later exchanged against Iranian hostages held by al-Qaeda in Yemen.

Over more than two decades the Shia Iran has fought the Sunni al-Qaeda wherever it could. Its operations against Sunni extremist in Iraq and Syria were largely wars against al-Qaeda affiliated forces. In Yemen Iran is allied with the Houthi who are fighting against U.S. supported al-Qaeda aligned groups in the south of the country. A similar situation exists in Lebanon where Iran supported Hizbullah forces have for years feuded against al-Qaeda aligned radicals.

To claim that Iran is now somehow in cahoots with Saif al-Adel, an alleged but never declared leader of a more or less extinct al-Qaeda, is blatant nonsense.

David Ignatius is a much read 'opinion leader'. That he was told to trot out those nonsensical claims is a signal for others to pick up on them.

We can now expect lots of other second rated opinion writers to come up with similar tales.

It is, like the attempt to associated Iran with weapons of mass destruction, a narrative that will be used to further escalate the current regime change war on Iran.

“I don’t underestimate Iran’s courage and determination, but the resistance of the Palestinians, Lebanese and Iranians will not be enough. We will also need an international movement of resistance, mainly in Western countries, against this new colonial war, as was the case at the time of Vietnam.
Analysing and commenting is important, but we also need time for action, here and now, inside the US and European fortresses of the empire.
Will we be able to do it? Mobilise or take part in mobilisations, IRL !
This also applies to ending the war in Ukraine.”

Precisely. But the western peoples are just like their elites: lazy and cowardly. They will get emotional demanding Russia and Iran do this and that and act as OUR proxies: getting themselves killed doing the job that only westerners can do, which is to fight, defeat and liquidate the entire Western ruling class. Critics of imperialism mock the Arabs for doing little to nothing, while doing even less. Where are the underground drone factories in the USUK Empire? So the buildings of the ruling class can be reduced to rubble? Is it really so hard? Why is there no sabotage going on of the genocidal MIC? Not even any general strikes or non-complience movements. Because there is no will amongst the exceptional west. Its for the brown-folk over there to take risks and fight.

Glad to see Iran doing the warning now.
Fingers crossed they can make good on the warning (not that I mean to say that I want to see US soldiers killed—but they should leave and go home now).

Feels kinda late to make Iran the enemy when the ‘good guys’ live streamed their ‘cleansing operation’ in Gaza for more than a year.

Recent criticisms (too little and much too late) by European leaders of Israel’s actions in Palestine could well be part of the media psyop against Iran, setting up the UK, France, and Germany as “objective observers” of the Iranian nuclear program, thus supporting the false narrative.

Posted by: Ciaran | Jun 14 2025 11:37 utc | 6

Important question is about Russia’s support now. Iran and Russia signed various agreements on help. Iran is attacked illegally and completely right. Hence, what ever Russia now sends (either material, informational etc) is legal by any means, both locally and internationally.
It’s similar to North Korea and Russia’s alliance. Ukies invaded Kursk, some Koreans popped up soon enough – west in shock – what did they expect really? (Not saying Iran-Russia alliance is on the same level).

This will still get more serious. I’m sorry for the Western powers who think they can foment trouble anywhere without much adverse consequence to themselves. A lot is happening simultaneously at the moment. The on-going Zionist western-backed hooliganism is also a way to deflect attention and hoping to catch the big fish, Russia and China, unaware. It’s time both Russia and China took a firm stand to stamp out the aggression against them, both in Ukraine and Taiwan, brutally. Or at the very least be on a high alert.

Why would the Iranians even think of wanting to sit down and negotiate a nuclear deal with the US is beyond me, when everyone knows that its the US which planned, financed and caused the genocide in Gaza, the Zionists are the scum and useful idiots in the middle, much like the Ukrainian armed forces being the useful idiots. It doesn’t take much to know that there is nothing these scum Zionists do, that doesn’t have the encouragement and facilitation of the USA, UK, France etc.
How can you even think of going near or talking to people who are responsible for the butchery of your brothers and sisters and who have been doing so for the last 20 months, what were the Iranians thinking?
Why didn’t the Iranians say, we don’t negotiate with terrorists.

“[Prophet], if only you could see the wicked hang their heads before their Lord: ‘Our Lord, now that we have seen and heard, send us back and we shall do good. [Now] we are convinced.’
‘If it had been Our will, We could certainly have given every soul its true guidance, but My words have come true. “I shall be sure to fill Hell with jinn and men together.” So since you ignored the meeting on this Day of yours, now We shall ignore you: taste the lasting suffering for all you have done.’

Iranian law forbids foreign troops on Iranian soil. Russia will give any help Iran asks for. And (imho) any nuclear attack on Iran will immediately trigger a Russian strategic response. (They will not ask whether it was an Israelian nuke. But they will spare Al Quds, Jaffa, etc.)

Called it. Prior to Israel’s current big attack upon Iran.
I had said that Netanyahu was motivated by his crumbling coalition
to have another war.
Read this this morning:

Israel’s parliament narrowly rejected a preliminary bill to dissolve itself early on 12 June, avoiding the possibility of snap elections and preserving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s fragile governing coalition.

It would seem that Netanyahu had survived the threat from his crumbling coalition, hours before I made my post.
If my understanding of the timeline is correct
Netanyahu launched his attack upon Iran after concluding his wheeling-and-dealing
to garner enough support for the vote that narrowly saved his coalition.

Do you get it?
One of the deals Netanyahu made in order to save his coalition
was to attack Iran immediately.

Scott Ritter thinks that Israel’s attack was not something they recently thought up, but was an well planned operation that may have taken a year to prepare and it certainly involved the US. Just like Iraq the plan is regime change in Iran so Israel is the proxy whose interests it suits as well. The phoney near to producing nuclear weapons of mass destruction claim is similar to Iraq as well.

Trump says Iran can still “make a deal” but I’d love to understand why he thinks Iran would engage again given he just admitted he was negotiating in bad faith, lulling them into believing he was prioritizing diplomacy when he was in fact jointly planning the attack with Israel.
An additional layer of irony is of course the fact that Trump is the same guy who unilaterally tore up the last deal Iran made with the US, thereby proving that even if Iran does make a deal it simply isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
Anyone with a modicum of intellectual honesty can only conclude that Trump’s renewed call to Iran to “make a deal” after all this is either completely delusional or disingenuous.
And that far from deterring Iran to build a nuclear weapon, America’s behavior can only reinforce their belief that it is actually their only reliable option.
Also this isn’t only about Iran. Wonder why the U.S. hasn’t managed to negotiate virtually any deal lately, be it with Russia or as part of Trump’s trade war? You’ve got your answer right there: if a car salesman has a reputation for selling lemons, no-one anywhere believes their sales pitch.
Trust and credibility are the single greatest currencies in international affairs and in that regard the U.S. is diplomatically bankrupt.

This is why I expected more casualties in Tel Aviv:
https://youtu.be/B8FRkA4VnaE?si=KPaAv1kg4vTz81H-

Amid Iran’s deadly missile barrage, the IDF told Israelis it was safe to exit bomb shelters—minutes before a direct hit devastated central Israel. At least two were killed, dozens injured, and many trapped under rubble. Was this a fatal miscalculation?

I distinctly remember after the first drone wave, israeli authorities announced people could leave the shelters.

Iran’s main airport for internal flights has been bombed. Why can’t Iran do the same? There are still too many skyscrapers in Jaffa aka Tel Aviv. They need to bomb the Netzarim corridor, the bases in Gaza, bases next to their infamous prisons for torturing Palestinians.

So far I’m extremely saddened on the performance of Iran’s internal security apparatus, its AD systems, and its lack of an instant, overwhelming response to the ZioNazis attacks and assassinations. Everyone knew this attack was coming and Iran already laid out its ” red lines”. Yet, its response has been extremely underwhelming and frankly insignificant. Why hasnt Hezbollah been activated ? Why arent the Houthis lobbing a continuous barrage of missiles? Why isn’t Iran ?
Waiting is not an option as has been shown multiple times.

names as Stoltenberg,/Nato and many others, businessmen, politicians. But many wonder why had the organization booked the whole big hotel, a rather long time ag ? I think this meeting is an opportunity for
the elite groups, to keep together, during the days of the Israeli attack,(Thursday/Friday) and the Iranian answer, think they were scared of the war, and “bunched” together to feel safe. That was the secret purpose of the meeting, most people didn’t se clear, but now we know. Today “peace negotiations” and “business meetings” as Bilderbergs are a message of “special secret operations” are to follow.

We’re getting closer to the point where israel will be desperate enough to try a nuclear attack on Teheran.
It’s crucial that Iran now:
1. Announce that if israel doesn’t stop all attacks on Iran, Iran will withdraw from the npt.
2. Withdraw from the JCPOA.
3. Withdraw from the Additional Voluntary safeguards it agreed to as part of the npt.
4. Withdraw from the NPT and expel the IAEA.
5. Revoke the Fatwa
6. Perform an underground test of a nuclear device.
7. Announce the test of a delivery vehicle.
Preferably in that order and at intervals of three days …

And take it one step further: Agree to dismantle said nukes when Israel has destroyed its nukes, scuttled its nuke delivery subs, totally dismantled Dimona, submitted to regular inspections by the Iranians, etc.
Otherwise Iran follows your plan above.
Iran: you’re dealing with crazy; Israel _is not like you_. They are not an old civilization (contrary to claims). They are _not_ ethical. They have a cultural psychosis of entitlement and avarice.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your honor and your philosophy will protect you from crazy. It won’t.

One more point about Iranian nukes:
At one point Putin said – and I’m fairly sure this is legit – that the Russian “nuclear umbrella” extended over Iran. And I’m sure the Iranians were grateful for that nuclear umbrella.
Iran: tell me what the fundamental difference is between:
a. Being under someone _else’s_ nuclear umbrella and
b. Having your _own_ nuclear umbrella
What’s the difference? I’ll tell you what the difference is: having your own umbrella is much more secure than depending on someone else to provide it at the right time, and the right place.
That’s the difference. Are you willing to bet your country on Russia’s willingness – and _ability_ – to coerce Israel into _not using_ a nuke on you?
How comfortable with that bet are you?
Repeat: you are dealing with a crazy nation of people that can justify _any_ behavior if it suits their immediate interest.

“In public, Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country’s growing friendship with China is unshakable, a strategic military and economic partnership that has entered a golden age. But behind the scenes at Lubyanka, the headquarters of Russia’s domestic security service, the FSB, a secret intelligence unit is calling the Chinese “the enemy.”
“The previously unknown unit warned that China poses a serious threat to Russian security. According to its officers, China is increasingly trying to recruit Russian spies and obtain sensitive military technology, including by luring disgruntled Russian scientists.”

“The threats are outlined in an eight-page FSB planning document obtained by The New York Times, which outlines Russia’s priorities for countering Chinese espionage. The document is undated, making it likely a draft, although the context suggests it was written in late 2023 or early 2024.”
“The hacker group Ares Leaks obtained the document but did not provide information about how. Its authenticity is therefore not fully verifiable, although six Western intelligence agencies confirmed to The Times that the document appears to be genuine. The document provides the most detailed picture yet of Russia’s counterintelligence policy toward China.”
So a ‘secret intelligence unit’, that was unknown until now, created a document “late 2023 or early 2024” and a “hacker group Ares Leaks obtained the document but did not provide information about how”
So what is the real purpose of this leak …

Cancer consist of tumour cells which form the tumour but which then release circulating cancer cells into the bloodstream (CTCs) and Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs). Modern medine only fights against the tumour but do nothing against the CTCs or CSCs, which are circulating in the blood stream, hence why cancers reappears down the line through these cells depositing into other organs.

Iran and Russia signed a Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in January 2025. This is in part supposed to cover some defensive stuff but I don’t know the details. I don’t believe it compels Russia to fight. But begs the question, what does Russia do? Will Russia help resupply and/or rebuild air defense capabilities?

Fantasies of 12yo without parental control enabled on the computer. Russia and China won’t move a finger. There is no treaty about that either. Some empty talk at UN where no one cares about what they say anyway. Except when they all vote to sanction Yemen, then they congratulate themselves on how united UN is.
Even though Iran is much less idiotic in actions than other self titled warriors, they will run out of missiles and radars much faster than the half of the planet which bombs them, and the rest of the planet will look the other way. It’s just Gaza with different faces
BTW, some of these warriors are big “concern trolls” ( t.me/AptiAlaudinovAKHMAT/11388 ) but thankfully this Apti troll was put back in his place by some old paper general.
“To avoid the fate of Iran, Russia now must mobilize and train at least 500 thousand people, and better 1 million, said the commander of the special forces “Akhmat” Lieutenant-General Apti Alaudinov. Now the Zionists can find out what it feels like to be buried in rubble. But it also sounds like maybe they have some kind of scans to locate the buried people. No such tech in Gaza. Monstrous. Even though the Zionists ostensibly targeting only Hamas fighters.

“Iran’s Devastating Attacks on Israel to Continue, US Bases to Be Targeted”
Fars News has learned that Iran’s large-scale attacks against Israeli aggressors — as well as US bases in the region — will continue.
A well-informed source, quoting senior Iranian military commanders, told Fars News: “The war that began with the Zionist regime’s aggression will, in the coming days, expand to all areas under occupation by the regime and to American bases in the region. The aggressors will face a firm and extensive Iranian response.”
He added that senior military officials, referring to recent operations, emphasized: “This confrontation will not end with last night’s limited actions. Iran’s next strikes will continue, and the consequences will be extremely painful and deeply regrettable for the aggressors.”…..

Early today I was going through reports of aerial attacks on Khamenei’and Pezeshkian’s residence which were fought off by the Iranian army.
There were even reports on the Indian news channels of Khamenei possibly having been killed at the time (the Indian channels have a tendency to add their own plot twists into reality).

Zionists, whose true religion and identity is Victimhood,
are offended by everything and ashamed of nothing.

You’re confusing objectives with tactics. The goals are total global domination: resources, people, life.
The creed is zionism; anyone who is motivated by full spectrum control can join. Being jewish is not based on ethnicity, but rather a concious, deliberate decision.
The strategy is fairly straight forward. Control (credit) money power, purchase communications assets, secular or religious, groom political actors, finance militaries.
Down at the tactical level, practice the dark arts of intrigue and deception, including the go to standby of claimed victimhood.
It’s very transparent to anyone with a higher IQ; the problem is of course that this segment is only around 2% of the population, so the act works repeatedly over the centuries and millenia.
DunGronin and Pyschohistorian are among the very few I see addressing the underlying issue. The problem is, even among the small minority of the 2%, some percentage get themselves wrapped up in an emotional frenzy.
Another part of course embrace the entire program, vying for promotion to rise up through the ranks. Lastly, another section comprised of people like myself watch it all in rapt ‘amusement’, observing life’s vanity fair while attempting to avoid any involvement.

More than 60% of the buildings in Hiroshima were destroyed.
Curtis LeMay picked Hiroshima and Nagasaki because 72 Japanese cities had already been seriously firebombed and would not make a good example.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Mainz in Germany had 80% of its buildings destroyed by conventional munitions three weeks before the end of WW II hostilities in that area. British RAF General ‘Mad Bomber’ Harris was satisfied.
Seems to me that Iran should follow this historical precedent against Israel. Never mind any piece of paper or full-throated ramblings from DJT or Lindsey Graham. ‘Game on.’

@89,
You do realize that if Iran had this option they would’ve done it by now. They are well protected by US and its multitude of vassals in the region, while Iran is mostly alone with only some “condemnation” from its Muslim “brothers” and BRICS.
The goal is indeed regime change in Iran, they will destroy its economy in the next few days and probably force regime change. Syria was a good example even though I’m not denying that Iran is much stronger, they have a lot of liberal idiots that would want to topple their existing system for “freedom”.
Next days/weeks will be very difficult for Iran.

What delusional, petite bourgeois bullshit. When confronted by a monster that intends to destroy you, you use every means at your disposal to destroy that monster before it succeeds. You don’t walk single file into the gas chambers when the monster directs you to because violence, even against monsters, is distasteful. How did that work out for the Jews? They became that monster anyway.

Yes, I am convinced that Rf has fucked the systems, as they did with Syria a lot, never allowing the defense to confront the genocidals in Syrya.
Believe me in the real world, in the majority, we see Rf as what they really are ( liars, as well as westerners, attributing the false morals, but enabling the ugliness and genocide ).
Finally I think I understand why Saker quit, not fear but disgust when he understood the betrayal. He loved Nasrallah.
However, this morning, Iran has awaken and fixed the glitch in the ad, it is the beauty to behold what they are inflicting on genocidals.

My hunch is that, much as some years ago when the globalist Henry Kissinger speculated in 2012 that Israel will soon cease to exist ( “In 10 years, there will be no more Israel.”), the current murder of crazies have decided it is time to sacrifice their forward operating base for empire in West Asia as a maneuver to rescue and attempt to advance their faltering private globalist finance system, China having not cooperated— agreed to, becoming the next host for those parasitic “shapeshifters.”
Nuking the region to smithereens is seen by them as a step forward in maintaining globalist domination.
Evidently I am a doomer this morning despite the fresh berries and cherries plucked off the trees on my morning run. The sun isn’t shining yet, but soon.

Iran should be decapitating Israel.
.
.
.
Make them live in fear of death every day. It’s about time the tables were turned.

Agreed 100%.
At this point I believe israel is actively STILL trying to decapitate the Iranian leadership – Khamenei in particular. Killing the head(s) of state in my opinion is justification for a nuclear response.
In short, Khamenei is the next target on israel’s list and the only viable deterrent is a nuclear one.
… The only viable response would be a nuclear strike on Tel Aviv – because the consequence of decapitating the leadership of Iran will be a collapse of the Iranian State and the country.
Remember (speaking to all those anti-nuke people):
– MEK, Azerbaijani forces, Baluch Terrorists, ISIS in Iraq (and Afghanistan) are all surrounding Iran awaiting the fall of the state so they can flood in under American protection and dismantle the Iranian Military.
The tragedy will be incalculable.
The only defence Iran has remaining is a nuclear one – why do you think that’s the first thing the Zionists hit?
