Advocacy group slammed for calling Gaza starvation a fix for obesity
A UK-based advocacy group for “Israel” has come under fire after suggesting that a reduction in obesity due to the ongoing war on Gaza could lead to increased life expectancy in the besieged Palestinian territory, The Guardian reported.
UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) made the claim amid widespread warnings of famine and a deepening humanitarian crisis as the Israeli war and blockade on humanitarian aid in the enclave continue.
The remarks, made by UKLFI’s chief executive Jonathan Turner, were part of a letter opposing a motion set to be debated at the Co-operative Group’s annual general meeting.
The motion called for the retailer to cease selling Israeli products. Turner criticized the motion’s reference to a Lancet-published estimate of 186,000 potential deaths in Gaza, calling it “totally false and misleading.”
In his letter, Turner argued that “the [Lancet] letter also ignored factors that may increase average life expectancy in Gaza, bearing in mind that one of the biggest health issues in Gaza prior to the current war was obesity.”

Re. the previous Isr-Pal thread.
While I veer between a Berletician ‘no change in US policy’, i.e. signs of a US-Isr split ‘are just all window dressing’ or ‘kabuki theatre’ vs. YES, some change by Trump / DT admin re. Isr. is taking place… I’m on the YES aisle ..*Today*
Question: Can the split last, hold, can it go forward, are any important, perhaps irreversible moves made (Such as DT dealing with KSA etc. while not imposing normalisation with Isr. as was previously the case – that is quite a commitment..)?
Idk. DT deliberately shows he is ‘mercurial’ and can change position on a dime, one shouldn’t always take him too seriously on the moment. Plus, there are ugly quarrels within the admin, who knows, etc. (Like in a Biz enviro. screaming about cancelling some franchise and setting up some new deal with another Co.) This is part of his modus operandi, unsettle ppl, hire, fire, etc. then go in for whatever advantage can be squeezed out.
Hegseth cancelling his visit to Isr. and the firing of Walz are extremely strong split-off signs. Other countries will have noted that, and will be acting on it.
Imho, one important element is the genocide in Gaza has become very difficult, maybe impossible to cover up, blanket over, or rationalise – killing ‘terrorists’ as an excuse, we must support Isr. etc. rings hollow. After at least 25 years of mainstream public discourse about ‘protecting minorities and giving them rights’ and ‘condemning *hate* of xyz groups’, vilifying ‘apartheid of any kind’ and implementing RTP in ‘wars’, killing Gazans by bombs, destruction, starvation, etc. is a hard sell.

Time to invade Iran I think, with a false flag attack on the British regimes, Israeli embassy in the making, and Iran to be blamed for it – and with planes ready and prepped in Diego Garcia, it can’t be long now until a full scale attack on Iran opens up.

“The US could default on its obligations by the end of summer, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned. In a letter to Congress on Friday, he urged lawmakers to act by either raising or suspending the debt ceiling – a cap on how much the government can borrow – to avoid running out of money to cover federal expenses.
The country hit its current statutory debt limit of $36.1 trillion in January. Once the ceiling is reached, the government can no longer borrow to meet its obligations in full and on time. By now, total US debt has risen to $36.2 trillion, according to official data. However, the Treasury has relied on ‘extraordinary measures’ – primarily accounting tactics like pausing payments into civil service retirement funds – to continue to meet its obligations and delay default.”

The much ballyhooed “Trump dissing Bibi” is nothing more than a carefully orchestrated narrative designed to create a positive illusion and curry favor with the Saudis by Trump in advance of his visit to Saudi Arabia this week where he hopes to announce major BIG DEALS. Afterwards, I expect Trump to revert to his usual Zionist self.
It’s all so transparent, but it may provide Gulf Arabs the cover they need to lull their people into thinking that Trump is OK just long enough to get the deals done.

As difficult as this all is to observe, this is the process.
Every public mention in the West about the genocide erodes Israeli power.
True power is not nukes. It is social power. “Epstein” power.
It’s reputation, condemnation, and disgust.
Our job is to make sure Zionism is buried better than Nazism was. White supremacy is tenacious.
I don’t know when it ends but (to me) it’s end in the near term seems inevitable.
The cliff edge for Zionism approaches, we have to keep pushing and then its weight will carry it to oblivion.

Silence Breeds Silence on Gaza [paywalled, StClair at Counterpunch+]

The problem with writing about Gaza is that words can’t explain what’s happening in Gaza. Neither can images, even the most gut-wrenching and heartbreaking. Because what needs to be explained is the inexplicable. What needs to be explicated is the silence in the face of horror.
Israel has been brazenly upfront about its plans to subdue Gaza, depopulate it of Palestinians, and seize the Strip for itself. Israel will not change. It hasn’t deviated from this genocidal course since October 8, 2023. For 19 months, every Palestinian has been a target because Israel wants Gaza cleansed of Palestinians. Therefore, everyone can be bombed. Everyone can be starved. Everyone can be denied medical care and the mere essentials of life.
Those who make distinctions between legitimate and illegitimate targets, between Hamas and civilians, between adults and children, themselves become targets. Humanitarians are targets because they insist on seeing Palestinians as humans. And even their deaths, their systematic slaughter, evokes silence from the countries they came to Gaza from, many killed by weapons made and sold by their home nations. Anyone who associates with a Palestinian is treated as a Palestinian, as someone to be silenced, one way or another: Banned, gagged, exiled, deported, jailed, killed.
Silence over one atrocity serves to legitimize all those that came before and those that follow. After Israel got away with bombing its first hospital in Gaza, it knew it could get away unscathed with bombing all hospitals and clinics in Gaza. And it did.
It’s clear, Israel will not yield to public opinion; it can only be constrained by those more powerful than it. By its funders and weapons suppliers. Yet nothing changes. No one intervenes. Not the US, certainly, not the UK, not Germany, not China, not Russia or Saudi Arabia, not Turkey, India, or France. Only silence, a silence that amplifies and isolates the screams of burning children. This collective silence invalidates the West’s exalted concept of itself, exposing the monstrous hypocrisy beneath the shimmering veneer of human rights laws and fatuous rhetoric about the sanctity of civilian lives.
I’m not convinced there are any “just wars,” but there are unjust ones. There are wars that traduce every cherished notion of civilized conduct, every rule combatants have been meant to abide by since 1919. And this war, if you can call it a war, has violated all of them: not only killing, but targeting, civilians; blowing up non-military infrastructure; bombing schools, universities, churches and mosques; burning agricultrual fields, slashing down orchards, cementing wells, poisoning and gunning down livestock; killing doctors, nurses and rescue workers; murdering aid workers; using chemical weapons; detaining 1000s with without warrants; inflicting torture and sexual abuse on prisoners; using human shields; practicing perfidy during raids; assassinating diplomats and journalists; shooting children in the head.
The rules of war are set by the winner. What will the new rules look like after Gaza, where what was once forbidden became standard operating procedure?
Biden wanted credit for working toward a ceasefire he never pressed the Israelis to enact. Rafah was flattened on Biden’s watch, after he publicly said (but didn’t mean) that an Israeli invasion of the city would cross a red line. Cross one red line, cross them all. Trump wants credit for a temporary ceasefire and the swift resumption of a total war designed to empty Gaza of Palestinians. But the end result for both Biden and Trump was always going to be the same: mass slaughter of civilians, destruction of Gaza’s liveable spaces, displacement of two million people and eventual Israeli annexation of large swaths of the Strip. In a word: genocide.
Members of the Israeli war cabinet vowed this week that its military will pulverize every building with more than two stories if Hamas, whatever is left of Hamas, doesn’t surrender. Who are they saying this to? The people who don’t know that Israel has already pulverized more than 80 percent of the buildings in Gaza? What is the purpose of saying this other than as a kind of unabashed triumphalism, a declaration of impunity to commit the worst of crimes and not only get away with it but have those institutions that outlawed genocide and land theft say nothing about it.
Silence breeds silence.
Israel no longer fears any international institutions: not the UN, not the International Criminal Court, not the International Court of Justice, not NATO, not the Arab League, not BRICS, not Interpol. As Israel itself breaches international laws, knowing there will be no consequences. Netanyahu travels freely, knowing the charges and warrants against him will never be enforced. Israel has humiliated the Western powers and has been embraced by many it humiliated for doing so.
In this time of silence, many of the words that are spoken have lost all meaning. In fact, their meaning has been inverted, twisted inside out. Humanitarian zones are tent cities, whose populations of refugees are deprived of water, food, clothing, sanitation, and heating. Humanitarian zones are where you are forced to flee in order to get starved, sickened, become hypothermic or get firebombed as you sleep with your kids in a tent made of garbage bags and rotted cloth. A humanitarian zone is where humanitarians aren’t allowed to go. A humanitarian zone is where inhuman acts take place in plain view.
Gaza’s population of two million people, most of them women and children, isn’t “starving.” They’re being starved. We’re conditioned to think of famines as natural events, caused by prolonged drought, floods, earthquakes. That’s not what is happening in Gaza. What’s happening in Gaza is an unimaginable thing. Except we don’t have to imagine it, because it’s taking place before our eyes. The famine in Gaza is completely engineered. This is famine as a weapon, designed quite literally to “starve out” the entire population of Gaza.
Palestinian mothers are so malnourished that they can’t breastfeed their newborns. This is appalling enough, but Israel has also blocked the entry of infant formula into Gaza. But there is no shortage of food. Food is within sight of Gaza, inside trucks backed up for miles at the entry points Israel has blocked. If one can’t draw the line at the intentional starvation of newborns, where will one draw the line?
How many Palestinians has Israel killed in Gaza? 100,000? 200,000? Could Ralph Nader be right in saying the total will grow to 500,000 or more? We won’t for years.
The death toll in Gaza defies human comprehension. Viewed through a statistical lens, each new death becomes less and less significant. The first image of a Palestinian baby decapitated by an Israeli quadcopter provoked disgust, anger, and sorrow. Now, eight or 10 babies similarly slaughtered in a day barely rate a notice in the media. Our voices are silent, our revulsion has been numbed, our capacity for human empathy muted. We are dehumanizing ourselves.
The first deaths hit the hardest. The most recent deaths slip by us. We can’t think of them without condemning ourselves for doing nothing to slow the killing since seeing those first shocking images more than a year and a half ago.
Many have been silenced. Many, many more have silenced themselves.
Let me submit one recent case for your consideration, that of Joseph Borrell, former head of the EU’s Human Rights office, who had a front row seat for what was going down in Gaza, where he witnessed refugee camps being strafed, ambulance drivers ambushed, poets and engineers assassinated, desalination plants destroyed and sewage pipelines ruptured, fishing boats torpedoed, bakeries detonated, Rafah, Gaza City, and Khan Younis bombed into ruins, two million people displaced, and 12,000 children killed. Yet he remained silent about what was really happening, what he knew was happening, until after he retired. Only then, at the moment when it would have the least political impact and mainly to salve his own conscience, did he feel free to call it what it was and is: genocide.
When Palestinians have attempted to break through the wall of silence that encloses the Gaza Strip and describe the crimes Israel has committed, they have been systematically killed: while reporting, while videotaping and photographing, while driving, while interviewing, while sleeping at home with their families. More than 210 have been killed, with more being targeted each week. All to keep the word from getting out. There’s never been this kind of “censorship” by drone in any other war. Yet, here we must confront a confounding double silence. Not just the terrible silence of the murdered journalists, but the deadly silence of their colleagues in the Western media about their killings and those who killed them. This is a silence that kills and buries the story along with the journalists who risked their lives to report it.
In Gaza, even the dead speak, but we refuse to hear them.

Jeffrey is right on this.

As far as the Muslim Ummah, it has been a focus for disruption forever. Muslims don’t have a Pope-like figure who can call a Crusade (Jihad). That’s a feature, not a bug.

But I do realize that you can’t always trust a person based on a short interview.
Here the short clip where he speaks about the Iraq war and the media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL–KXNZxVA

“Israel” now attacking Yemen ports.
At least 1 B2 left garcia according to osint, several B52s arrived there. Not possible to know really, movements are usually able to be hidden or false movements reported.
Officially B2s are not declared as departed, new B52s are declared stationed.
Gaza as previously, last night there were reports of straffing shelter tents.
Tomorrow discussion on ceasefire Pakistan/India, then US visit to region with deadlines for Iran, offer of talks by Russia re. Ukraine slightly later.
What to make of that.
“Israel” not ‘offering’ more than temporary ceasefire for prisoner release.

If true about Tucker and Jones, I have to fall back on an old theory. Either one or both are controlled opposition. Tucker has contacts sufficient to have let him know that NSA (or CIA) was viewing his phone activity (messages/email) a few years ago. Going on surface level messaging alone, Carlson is right on a bunch of issues and I disagree with him on others. But it’s out there for anyone to see. Jones is all over the place. I think if he’s not controlled, he’s “Allowed Opposition” in that he floods the zone with noise, and specifically discredits “conspiracy theories” at large by always going with the most insane version of any story. The “no planes/holograms” on 9/11 for example.

What is at play behind the scene is the old debate between Erasmus and Luther, and many others behind them, of free will vs predestination. Qatar seems to be willing to be manipulating the Muslim world into buying the good old Calvinist “it’s God’s plan”, i.e. evil does not exist, if i did not do it someone else would, or i am but God’s arm. Messianic thinking also exists in Islam although Jesus is called Messiah in the Koran. Predestination appeals with narcissists and millenarists alike. But ksa and Egypt have a Xian background that cannot be erased so easily.

Qatar and the other Gulf monarchies barely constitute the Islamic world.
God is the creator and master of everything, and hence everything is preordained. The only way “free will” could make sense is if there is no all-powerful creator.
Western conceptions of “Free will” are incompatible intellectually with belief in God.

I enjoy Will Schryver’s commentary
This is from a recent thread asking why Iran doesn’t simply erase Israel.

There is absolutely nothing Iran could hope to do to prevent Israel from slaughtering the inhabitants of Gaza and the West Bank.
There is nothing Iran (nor Russia) could do to prevent Syria from crumbling. They propped up the hapless Syrians for several years. The blame for Syria’s dissolution falls entirely on the Syrians themselves.
As for Hezbollah, I am not AT ALL convinced they are a defeated force. The IDF took SEVERE losses in southern Lebanon, and advanced no more than about 1 km.
Hezbollah has simply done as it has several times in the past: melt into the background for a period of time until better opportunities present themselves.
I think it is particularly revealing that very few of the evacuated inhabitants of northern Israel have returned. They understand very well that the threat from Hezbollah has not been destroyed.
Meanwhile, Israel has weakened itself to a substantial degree by moving into southern Syria, and by exceedingly attriting its precision strike munitions stockpiles.
Both Israel and the US are SIGNIFICANTLY weakened here in mid-2025 compared to late 2023.

This is the OP of the thread

The last year and a half in Gaza is a strong enough reason to dismantle the entire US-led western empire. The Gaza holocaust could end tomorrow and it would still be reason enough. All the empire’s other worldwide abuses could have never happened and it’d still be reason enough.
In Gaza alone the empire has already established beyond any doubt that it should not exist, even if you ignore all its other crimes throughout the middle east, Latin America, Africa and Asia. If you would perpetrate history’s first live-streamed genocide in full view of the entire world, then you are not the sort of power structure who should be leading humanity into the future. If you would inflict the kinds of abuses we’ve been watching on our screens for the last year and a half upon helpless human beings who have done nothing wrong, then you should not rule the world. Your rule must end.
The alternative is to let the fate of humanity be determined by genocidal monsters. This is simply not an option. The sooner the US-centralized empire ends, the better.

Hates Israel and everything it stands for.
Very interesting, nuanced turning over of different types of evidence.
He is cautiously on the yes side of this.
Viz., Netanyahu is a conman, Trump is a BIGGER conman, and Trump is getting tired of both Net and the genocide and won’t put up with being jerked about by Net and made to look stupid.
Even if you disagree with Mizrahi’s (tentative) conclusions, his thinking is worth following.

I have no idea, but I’m guessing there are ways to slip in & out.
When the US banned ivermectin it took all of 3 weeks for me to inadvertently learn of an underground market. Even after customs cracked down on shipments from China, mine came through a US ally 3rd party.

********
I noticed that too. I assume once cia, always cia. And that Larry is a place of limited hangout.
He still has connections and I do think he leans pro-Israel. Back after 10/7 he started off repeating the party line. He met fierce resistance from the bulk of his followers armed with history, facts & truths. It took weeks for him to open his eyes & accept that the country he imagined is not what he thought it was. And even longer to speak out against the genocide.
He still sometimes seems to back off Israel, but if anything, the pushback just gets stronger.
If he goes too long trying to distract from the genocide, some of us bring it right back to the top. Happy to say I”m not the only 1 who refuses to let it go unnoticed.
I don’t think he’d outright lie, although he may be lied to. So I take everything with a grain of salt but in general he has been a reliable source. And if he makes a mistake he acknowledges it.
There may be a good reason the source is being protected.

Erdogan will be doing cartwheels of joy, but I doubt the persecution of them by Turkey will be over -mind you, the Kurds have long been a gun for hire for the USA.
“The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has said it will disband and has ended its armed struggle against Türkiye. Ankara welcomed the move as a milestone towards a “terror-free Türkiye” but said the group must fully implement its decision.
The PKK, which has waged an insurgency against Türkiye since 1984 to gain autonomy for Kurds, chose to lay down arms at a party congress in early May, but only announced the decision on Monday. In a statement, it said that the PKK has “carried the Kurdish issue to a level where it can be solved by democratic politics, and the PKK has completed its mission in that sense.”
The move came after a public call in February by PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been confined in a Turkish jail on separatism charges since 1999, urging the group to dissolve and adopt nonviolent methods. At the time, Ocalan sent a letter to party members saying, “there is no alternative to democracy in the pursuit and realization of a political system.” Following the message, the PKK declared a unilateral ceasefire.”
