The United States has issued an alert for its citizens in Lahore, Pakistan, urging them to leave the city or seek shelter. This development follows a previous travel advisory and suggests potential security concerns. The alert is seen as a significant indicator of the US intelligence assessment of the situation in Lahore, particularly after recent events in Muridke and the reported targeting of Lahore's air defense system.

Berlin, Germany.
As in 2024, flags and banners of the former Soviet Union, Belarus and the Russian Republic of Chechnya are banned, but not those of the attacked country, according to a lawsuit filed by Ukrainian associations. The ban also includes the wearing of military uniforms or parts thereof, the wearing of military insignia, "the single or prominent display of the letters 'V' or 'Z'" and the display of so-called St. George's ribbons. In addition, pictures of the Russian, Belarusian and Chechen heads of state may not be held up. Some diplomats and veterans of the Second World War are exempt from this. Also prohibited: the playing and singing of Russian marching or military songs and the display of symbols and signs that glorify the Russia-Ukraine war, such as depictions of Ukraine without the Russian-occupied territories and the flags of the Russian-dominated separatist areas.(morgenpost)
Ukrainian flags and banners as well as Ukrainian marching and military songs are permitted at the Soviet memorials.

Very insightful stuff from Simon Hunt.
-India/Pakistan conflict arranged low level conflict to prevent either unpopular government from falling
-US fleet defeated in Houthis, withdraw without Israel's consent
-US does not accept Russia's demand re. Ukraine, Russia will roll over more of Ukraine until the real negotiation starts
-EU peripheral and some core nations want to get rid of Brussels control, amid massive EU caused problems in social and financial fields
-EU business circles want warmer relation with China, but EU commission does not
-Oil price to bottom out over coming weeks or months below 50, rise 70-80 in a few years, and spiking at 150 by 2028 coinciding with potential US/Israel war with Iran
-China's supply and production chain outruns everything else in the world, fully automated with minimal human labor
-One more washout in the metal and stock markets, FED and governments to throw everything into the pot, causing a major multi-year inflationary rally, then you better be careful after that

Thank you b! Continuing on with what I was suggesting in the Week in Review thread on Sunday, I for the first time turned off from walking with Alex Christoforou in sunny Cypress - he could not stop talking about Trump. I'm going to stay away until somebody tells me here that he's not doing that. Same goes for the other Duran outlets. I love them but it's too much. I could mute the dialogue, yes, but no. Sorry beautiful clear water at Limasol. Sorry Alex.
No more Trump. This man needs to be ignored. He is on the wrong track. He doesn't even know how wonderful the World Cup hosted by Russia truly was. If they are banning Russia, time to ban the World Cup!!

White House Meeting Between Trump and Carney Underscores Historic Breakdown in US-Canada Relations
https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/08/qddl-m08.html
"...Carney, who sat silently during most of the press conference as Trump delivered a series of rambling fascist tirades, used his opening remarks to effusively praise his host.
'Trump is a 'transformational President, with a focus on the economy, with a relentless focus on the American worker, securing your borders, ending the scourge of fentanyl and other opioids, and securing the world,' declared Carney.
'The history of Canada and the US is we're stronger when we work together. And there's many opportunities to work together.'
Later he applauded Trump for 'revitalizing NATO', before adding, 'My government is committed to a step change in our investment in Canadian security and our partnership.'
A subsequent statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Carney's summit with Trump confirmed the Liberal government's commitment to massively divert resources to building up Canada's military-security apparatus to ensure Canadian imperialism's role as a protagonist in the repartition of the world, preferably on Washington and Wall Street's side..."

Important developments in the Trade War were revealed during today's Hudson & Wolff chat on Nima's Dialog Works program--Europe and China have discovered their shared Trade War problems can be averted by increasing trade between them. Hudson cites a new Financial Times article on the subject that I couldn't find but did discover something similar on Global Times, "China remains stable, predictable investment destination for European businesses, despite US tariffs: EU chamber". The moves by Europe and China exemplify what the Global Majority is also doing--realigning their trade policy to avoid the Outlaw US Empire. Other important points were made during the chat barflies will better understand by watching the program than for me to try and paraphrase all of them. There is one great point of irony I will explain--China has told the Empire many times to cease its Cold War Mentality/Thinking when dealing with China because it won't work, but it appears the Empire can only think within that paradigm and no other, and that's what will ultimately cause Trump to lose the Trade War and further cripple the Empire. That point is made during the last fifteen minutes of the chat.

I was listening to Sean Foo say that 6% of Canadian exports to America stopped, but Canada has increased exports to the ROW by 24% or so.
It's like Trump is advertising to the world where the American economy is vulnerable.
The problem with being a hegemon is that it cannot reflect or acknowledge areas for improvement.
While it is taking longer than all of us would like, this era of white supremacy and colonialism is coming to an end, I believe forever. The necessary conditions of asymmetry in power and technology will not occur again, IMO. That period was an aberration.

My take on Scott Bessent, at best a mediocre investment manager who ran on the coat tails of Soros, and one who is utterly incapable of effectively doing his job. An utter light-weight. Scott Bessent: A Soros Sidekick Who Failed When He Struck Out On His Own
I see that the market is rallying hard on the trade "deal" with vassal Starmer, where the US removes the extra tariffs on cars and steel and aluminum (25%), but keeps the across the board 10% tariffs on UK imports. The UK granted market access to US agricultural products, but crucially did not change any of its food standards and regulations which to all intents and purposes keep the disgusting products of the US agri-businesses out. A meaningless fake "victory" for US agriculture. The UK also keeps its Digital Services Tax, which hits US tech firms. This is also just a "framework for agreement" as the details will take many weeks to work out, and even longer to get ratification in both countries. The US actually ran a US$11.9 billion trade surplus with the UK last year.
This whole thing is just really fluff compared to what will be needed with the EU and China etc. that have much, much more bargaining power. Once the short term euphoria is over reality will set back in.
India is also looking like a possible candidate for the next trade deal, but its average tariff is only 17% (the US one was 3.3% before the tariff war). India ran a US$45.7 billion trade surplus with the US in 2024. India may remove tariffs reciprocally in some areas, but the reality is that India is a very poor country with a very small share of the population being able to purchase US produced goods. Changing the tariffs will not change this reality. Domestic Indian production, and products from its South East Asian neighbours and China are much more aligned with the purchasing needs of the average Indian. So any such agreement will also be a relatively irrelevant piece of fluff.
The important ones are the EU (US$220 billion trade surplus with US in 2024) and China (US$295 billion surplus with US in 2024) and Mexico (US$172 billion surplus), and Vietnam (US$123 billion surplus), and Canada (US$102 billion), and Japan (US$63 billion surplus). None of those is pending, quite the opposite.

Which would translate into an declaration that Carney would prefer to make Canada (officially) a minor State of the USA slice by slice rather than all at once.

A U.S./Ukraine investment partnership—-aka, the Limited Partnership Agreement—would demonstrate to Russia, according to Sec Bessent, the degree of commitment the U.S. has to Ukraine.
Weirdly, DJT’s tariffs have driven tariff-targeted countries to begin striking deals w/ *each other*—-creating bilateral & trilateral coalitions in an effort to avoid the sclerotic & peripatetic DJT. Meanwhile, DJT has been walking back select tariffs.
In DJT’s deal w/ the UK he has used tariffs not as a means of raising revenue for the U.S. but to spawn a hair-on-fire panic as a result of the chaotic way he launched his economic salvo. DJT thought countries would be desperate to make a deal. He thought the same thing about Russia regarding a quick end to the war in Ukraine—-“Russia’s losing millions of men. Russia’s economy is cratering”—but the propaganda DJT uttered was neither believable nor real. Moreover, China quickly proved itself desperation-proof too.
The crappy instability DJT has introduced into economies, distant & wide, results in lack of trust undoubtedly: can Vietnam, for example, believe that DJT, in a pique, won’t slap additional tariffs on its textile industry on a whim-? Hard to see the surety in that. An economy like Vietnam’s can’t plan for reliable industry under wiggy circumstances like this.
Meanwhile, domestically, both Starbucks and McDonalds are losing sales from the middle class and also from the low-wage earning portion of the U.S. population. Starbucks and McDonalds rely upon these sectors to keep their profits buoyant. This is an example of how DJT’s domestic economic policies favor the wealthy and not the duffers down below the millionaire-level, the normies who have a tough time buying a latte, for instance, after paying for rent, car loans & childcare.
The U.S. has refused to appoint a judge to the World Trade Organization, in effect crippling the ability of the WTO to empanel a court to adjudicate matters and permitting the U.S. carte blanche when it comes to slapping willy-nilly tariffs on distant economies, because the WTO is toothless in the face of these abuses.
Weirdly, the U.S. has no leverage over China, in a transactional sense, as far as the 145% tariffs are concerned. When Sec Bessent sits down w/ his Chinese counterpart over the weekend in Switzerland he’s going to encounter a tough mind-set. China has already said it will not negotiate @ the point of a bayonet.
Additionally, China is not going to make a *bad* short term deal that will allow the U.S. to import like mad for a 90-day period only to restart the trade war w/ a vengeance after stocking up on the tariff-free cheap goods.
That would be like Russia agreeing to a ceasefire in Ukraine only to find that after 30-days the EU and the U.S. have massively flooded Ukraine with weaponry and that NATO Reassurance Forces have posted up in Odessa—a hostile tripwire military—in effect.

Peculiarly, DJT's trade war w/ China is isolating the U.S.
The Tariff Wall is inspiring countries to seek products/items/resources/services from *partners* other than the U.S. as a means of avoiding the onerous & destabilizing tariffs imposed upon them sweepingly by DJT.

I noticed Russia's MFA had a new icon/link at its website that reveals On Victory Day which is a series of links to photos of celebrations globally. At the top of the page is another link that gives you WW2 archive photos and documents in Russian. Meanwhile at the Kremlin all the formal events are occurring with the many foreign guests. And as expected, Ukraine continues its combat actions in trying to enter Russian territory, so there's no truce along the border.
(This could also have gone on the Palestine thread)
Food
People can go to extraordinary lengths to preserve their lineages, when threatened by an ever-present enemy with no scruples, or extinction.
One case I can point to, is that of the Baining people and the Tolai people. Two different tribes on the island of New Britain, in the Bismark Archipelago of Papua New Guinea. Their situation has eerie similarities to the Palestinians versus the Zionists.
"Baining" in the Tolai language meant food. (Possibly only in popular placetalk; plestok) The Tolai were more "advanced" than usual for pre-European-contact tribes. They had a form of money, (Shell rings, used for weddings mainly), trade, made sophisticated dugout canoes, and shared the same absolute defense of tribal lands, common to all PNG tribes. The Bainings, were less "advanced" as they used barter, and were generally at an earlier stage of development. One physical advantage for them was that they lived over 200m meters higher up, in the hills and forests, and suffered less from the various forms of Malaria there are on the coast. Even now villages do not let a single blade of grass grow near their huts.
As I mentioned, they were hunted for food and ritual purposes (finishing on the grill). They lived in isolated small groups in the interior of the island. (The Tolai lived on the coast). So to ensure the Baining's peoples continued existence, they swapped children, starting with the first-born sons. This was to ensure the genetic diversity necessary for any ethnic group, (although they wouldn't have heard of "science").
*
So nowadays we again have a people threatened with extinction (genocide) in Gaza. Many, many, orphans are now brought up by community members, and there are some "refugee" camps in different countries, for those who are displaced and hunted. The Zionists CANNOT hope to eliminate all the diaspora Palestinians who have a right of return. The present Zionist emphasis on killing kids stems from a similar desire to eradicate an entire people. Although Netanyahu tries to draw parallels with the Amalek, who were presumably not very numerous by todays standard, and who probably only inhabited a restricted geographical area, and in small villages or towns.
***
***
Although the Tolai national dress was to go stark naked, it is unlikely that the zionists will do the same. This posed problems when PNG introduced Toana days (fridays) when students were supposed to wear their traditional costumes to school to foster national identity. Up until a suitable covering (lap-laps) were designated as their "traditional" clothes.
Part of the initiation ritual that the Tolai did to become "adults"; Young men, for their acceptance into the tribe, would seize a Baining girl and retire to a closed hut. There they would rape her for several days, then kill and eat her. Zionist prisons do the same, possibly with the exception of the barbeque.
***
Talking about lack of food. My grandfather, born in Ireland before 1880, was one of five children (four boys and one girl), was brought up by another family as his own parents could not feed him. I do not know any of my relatives in Ireland as all records were lost in the destruction of the Public records office in 1922, and family ties were lost. However, I now have a visceral dislike of people deliberately starving others.
Karma being what it is, I also starved during the first nine months of my life. Born during the war - and there was not enough food available. Memories are not kept from the first four years of life, (approximately) but the sequels stay forever.

AFAIK that was 1916 not 1922. The Irish rebels of the Easter Uprising used the General Post Office, where the records were kept, as a HQ. The British bombed the building.
By the way, the Mormons in the USA have a practice, near as I can make out, of re-troactively making their ancestors Mormons as well. And, since they are pretty good at record-keeping, you may just find that they have some records where the Irish authorities do not.
I have the same problem, fyi.

My father tried his best to make a"family tree", which is also now lost (by me), due to carelessness during rebuilding a house. The oldest mentioned were a couple of tombs in Timoleague Abbey that he sent me to look for once. There are probably lots of other relatives (Five children and the four others would probably have started a family somewhere).
As you say.... why not...
but cheez, how long would it take !

Echoing what was said by Drs Hudson and Wolff, Dr. Warwick Powell has written an excellent summary of how Trump defeated his Trade War all by himself, "Oops! Strategic Miscalculation and the Evolving Global Trade Game". Unfortunately for those within the Outlaw US Empire, Trump's Trade War has already done great damage to most Americans and especially his voter base. Importantly, however, is the fact that he did this all by himself--neither the media or the Ds did anything to derail his Trade War. What remains to be seen is how well his defeat will be explained by US media. This weekend in Switzerland, China doesn't need to do much more than listen because as Dr. Powell notes, "As the US scrambles to re-engage with China in Switzerland, it does so not from a position of strength but from necessity."

I never get tired of posting this:
The Pope Song. Tim Minchin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WDNXOzKm2A
Tim changed public discourse with a 3min song.
The 3rd most powerful Catholic clergy was refusing to cooperate with a Royal Commission inquiry into institutional child sexual abuse.
Tim wrote and released this in one day. It went viral on steroids.
Pell had to submit, and was ultimately jailed. He’s rotting in hell now, if there’s a god.

Western Values, according to ursula
"....a Union of peace, democracy, and solidarity. An anchor of stability."
please remember, folks, that just since the late 1990s, Nato/EU destroyed Yugoslavia, Libya, Syria, and many of them also participated in the great war-crime of the 21st century, the destruction of Iraq

Yeah, "enemies laid down their arms" when the Russian Red Army defeated the German Nazis...
And the EU is not a Peace Project, it's promoting War in Ukraine and supporting a Genocide in Gaza...

Ursula von der Leyen @vonderleyen
Eighty years ago, enemies laid down their arms.
Since then, we, Europeans, have built something extraordinary: a Union of peace, democracy, and solidarity. An anchor of stability.
Our Union was born as a peace project, and it remains one today.

Yves has another long rundown on India vs. Pakistan, for anyone with the patience:
One of her commenters sternly challenges the strange notion that everything going wrong everywhere in the world can be blamed on the United States. But I search in vain for any counterexamples, past or present.
I hope I'm wrong in my impression that cia/mi6 stage false flags to stir the pot at an opportune time to hobble and humble Central Asia. If I'm wrong, this mess could settle down. But if I'm right, we'll see the usual suspects continue with their usual antics: nuclear chicken salad for the wretched of the earth.

There is gossip going around that Trump is going to give American nuclear technology to the Saudis.
I put nothing beyond the Saudis or Americans, but it seems clear to me that Trump is trying to make KSA the Ukraine of West Asia against Iran and the North-South Corridor.
I don't have any thoughts specifically on what that would mean if true. Trump loves to announce audacious things, but he follows through on few of them.
America does love to take one group and set it against another. Chechens vs Russia. Georgia vs Russia. Ukraine vs Russia. Pakistan vs India. Taiwan vs China. South Korea vs North Korea. Iraq vs Iran. Lebanon vs Palestine.
There are probably dozens more examples, many in Central and South America.

On the sidelines of the visit of the commander of the Iranian security forces to NiameyNiger and Iran signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday to strengthen the fight against terrorism, trafficking of all kinds, and illegal migration.
"Niger and Iran, through the Ministry of Interior, Public Security and Territorial Administration and the Iranian Security Forces Command, have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism, cross-border organized crime, trafficking of all kinds, border control and illegal immigration," the Nigerien Ministry of the Interior announced in a statement published on its Facebook page.
The agreement was signed following a meeting between Niger's Interior Minister, General Mohamed Toumba, and an Iranian delegation led by Iranian security forces commander General Ahmed Rezaei Radan, who is on a working visit to the Nigerien capital, Niamey, the same source said.
Since the coup d'état of July 26, 2023, Niger has embarked on a "sovereignist" approach consisting of turning to new partners in various fields. Thus, it has broken its military agreements with France and the United States of America in the fight against terrorism and in the fight against illegal immigration with the European Union.

-repost from Palestine thread-
Apologies if this has already been posted..
Investigative journalist and longtime critic of Zionism Jonathan Cook is nominated for an Amnesty International People's Choice journalism award, up against establishment ghouls like the BBC's Jeremy Bowen & Lyse Doucet.
Patrick Cockburn, Owen Jones and the Novara Media crew are also nominated, but despite some creditable work on Palestine the last two have a pretty unsavory reputation so Cook looks like the obvious choice. If you don't mind handing over your email to a USAID/NED-adjacent outfit like Amnesty, you can vote for him here:

I think we all need to step back a bit from this Pope business.
His being born in Chicago may or may not count for anything. Same goes for his being a Peruvian prelate: Some Latin American prelates are Oscar Romero-style liberals; others — including the one occupying the seat Romero once occupied — fascist bootlickets.
All we really know at this juncture is that he’s a pedo protector (surprise!!! /s), is anti-LGBT, and is a Major Player in Vatican politics. This last factor is by far the most important one.

Hatchet Job? Rather an accurate offset to the utter bullshit spouted by the Trump administration and media about this very lucky in life mediocre guy. I have seen their types many times in business, floated to the top through a mixture of luck, personal relationships and being in the right place at the right time. Some get very rich, like Bessent. Both his hedge funds failed while he made lots of money.

Aaah, the US runs a big surplus on services that why Trump only wants to talk about goods. That services surplus is mostly with China, Mexico, the EU, Canada and Japan. A chunk of it is related to import related services (insurance, short term funding, handling etc.) and foreign students. A reduction in goods imports, plus the new Xenophobia and ICE empowerment, will create a hole in that services surplus. I expect the bigger players to play some hard ball on services.

From many threads ago:
UK NATIONALIZES CHINA'S BRITISH STEEL OPERATIONS
The UK government is taking control of Chinese-owned British Steel after emergency legislation was rushed through parliament in a single day.
§|. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckg17g39x41
“Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told MPs the government's likely next step would be to nationalise the Scunthorpe plant, which employs 2,700 people.
“He said he was forced to seek emergency powers to prevent owners Jingye shutting down its two blast furnaces, which would have ended primary steel production in the UK.
§| Starmer said the government would "pay the fair market rate" to shareholders in the event of nationalisation but added: "In this case the market value is effectively zero." 😎
§| Why did the Chinese buy it for £1.2 billion in 2020?
~ The mill was part of a larger set of assets. It was losing money, so they wanted to shut down that specific plant. It gave them a foothold into the greater European steel market.
~ It was losing $1m a day
~ the mill is ancient and labor heavy. Newer electric arc furnace is more cost effective and require fewer people to run, but that wouldn't go well politically, because it would result in loss of jobs.

For shits and giggles
World Donkey Day in 2025 is on May 8th .
It's a day to recognize the contributions of donkeys, educate the public about their needs, and promote initiatives to improve their well-being.
FYI
A donkey is a general term for the species Equus asinus, while a jackass (aka ASS) specifically refers to a male donkey. In other words, "jackass" is a sex-specific term, while "donkey" encompasses both males and females.
The term "jack" specifically refers to a male donkey, while "ass" is a common synonym for a donkey.
Thought you should know how important today is!!!

Re: Equus asinus...
From Etymonline:
asinine (adj.):
c. 1600, "obstinate, stupid, offensively silly," from Latin asininus "stupid," literally "like an ass," from asinus "ass," also "dolt, blockhead". The literal sense in English is recorded from 1620s.
I wish I had been taught more Latin in school. It really is quite useful for learning about science, botany, medicine, and etymology.
My mum always lamented the removal of it from common curricula in the West c.1970s.
Guess I could point the finger at that D Rottenfella guy, asinine bastard that he was.

The UK is the inaugural country to get a trade deal with President Trump *after* Liberation Day---a distinction indeed. DJT underscored that the UK was first in line on account of Brexit itself, perhaps whetting the appetite for *other* European countries to jail-break themselves from the bloc.
The contrast could not have been starker: while DJT was glad-handing w/ Lord Mandelson, the British ambassador to Washington, in the Oval and chatting amiably w/ Sir Keir over the speakerphone, officials in Brussels were finalizing $100 billion of retaliatory tariffs against the US.
The US-UK trade deal won’t save the British economy, but it is far better than anything EU countries currently enjoy. So the Special Relationship is *special* again-! Lord Mandelson said the deal was “not the end, it’s the end of just the beginning,” which is a great line. Moreover, it will be *a lot* easier to sell into the US from Britain than it will be from anywhere inside the EU.
Which leaves the bloc fretting. Currently planning levies on passenger planes, chemicals and steel, alongside bourbon and spirits, Brussels is pushing on with a tit-for-tat trade war that will likely escalate over the next few weeks. Very soon DJT and Ursula may well be imposing 30 per cent, 40 per cent or even 50 per cent tariffs on each other’s products.
If the bloc tries to put more pressure on the US by playing footsie w/ China, the risk is that Europe will be turned into a dumping ground for Chinese goods that have been locked out of the American market. European companies will face huge barriers in the US and ferocious Chinese competition in their home market--none of which will haunt the fully-Brexited UK.
So the deal DJT struck w/ Sir Keir may torque Europe uncomfortably in a horrid financial mixmaster.

The Genocide Jews made a big mistake when they bombed Yemeni infrastructure in retalliation for the Houthi warning shot on a Ben Gurion Airport carpark with a hypersonic missile.
Imo, nobody would go the trouble of acquiring and launching unstoppable hypersonic missiles unless they were capable of striking targets with extreme accuracy.
Of course Wasrael's Supreme Beings would naturally assume that the harmless Houthi missile strike was the result of incompetence. So it's going to be lots of fun when the Houthi begin targetting VITAL Wasraeli infrastructure with extreme accuracy - and prejudice!

Can't stop curiosity !
Dassault shares drop after reports of Pakistan shooting down India's Rafale jets:
"The French aviation giant's value dropped from $373.8 to $362.05 after Pakistan claimed to have shot down multiple Indian Rafale fighter jets."
Defense Markets Reflect Strategic RealitiesIndia's recent missile strikes on Pakistani territory have not only escalated regional tensions but also triggered significant shifts in the global defense market. The repercussions of these actions are evident in the contrasting trajectories of two prominent fighter jet programs.
Rafale's Market Performance:
Dassault Aviation, the manufacturer of the Rafale fighter jets, has experienced a notable downturn in its stock performance. This decline is attributed to concerns over supply chain disruptions and delivery challenges, which have impacted investor confidence. The market's reaction underscores the sensitivity of defense stocks to geopolitical events and operational performance.
JF-17 Thunder's Ascendancy:
Conversely, the JF-17 Thunder, a collaborative effort between Pakistan and China, has garnered increased attention. Recent reports highlight Pakistan's initiatives to enhance the JF-17's capabilities through operational upgrades, including advanced radar and avionics systems. Additionally, the aircraft's participation in international exercises, such as "Spears of Victory-2025" in Saudi Arabia, showcases its growing prominence on the global stage.
