One of the biggest reasons for the tariffs is that Trump’s 2017 tax cuts expire in 2025; $ 4 trillion over 10 years..
To make the tax cuts not expire but made permanent the Congress have to pay for the loss of revenue.
Voila, Trump puts the tariffs on, illustrates that they will bring in $4 trillion over 10 years , tax cuts become permanent.
Then Trump starts negotiations with the tariffed countries and I would guess they would be lifted or greatly reduced when Trump gets his pound of flesh in different economic segments in negotiations; whatever but the tax cuts would stay
It’s a radical policy but how else can US survive economically with continuous hemorrhaging through trade? Many companies in the tariffed countries will bring industries to the US to evade the tariffs.

If you listen to Mercouris last Friday, you would learn about the important interview by Marco Rubio, the SOS of USA, and that is apparently completely ignored by the media – but in which Rubio breaks the mantra of USA as the indispensable nation, break with the unipolar world, and about Prof. Mearsheimer being prescient in 2014 – about the outcome of Ukraine adventure by the USA and the West/NATO. Very well worth listening to, what Mercouris is talking about.

I forget sometimes that I do a superior job of information gathering and do not “watch” TV. Most geopolitical observers online have been talking about Rubio’s comments.
That observation by Mercouris is as novel as water being wet.

I understand Trump’s objective and reasoning but it will not work.
Increasing income without addressing spending is a fool’s errand.
Everything America has done since Nixon closed the gold exchange window has been to avoid the pain of confronting the fiat dollar.
As Ron Paul predicted, avoidance has made the bubble worse. Instead of a decade of fiscal modesty, it’s ballooned into a deadly cancer that may destroy the Empire.
The American belief in unconstrained spending is what has changed since tariff regimes of the past. That and Empire which is a very different “business” model from mostly Agrarian America.
The effective things Trump is doing are slashing foreign aid and firing bureaucrats. In the long run, eliminating the DoE but he will not live to see the fruits of that.
Those sorts of things can influence the spending side of the ledger.
Trump is weaponizing tariffs as the US loves to weaponize sanctions. Ultimately this will lead to continuing de-dollarization and shifting trade flows.

Posted by: LoveDonbass | Feb 1 2025 15:02 utc | 206
Perhaps, Trump’s gambit might not work -it may be that America is already too far gone for any solution ; de dollarization has been occurring since 2008 Great Recession so that’s nothing new.
Time will tell-Canada , for sure is going to get whacked as none of its governments have diversified our exports such that 78% of what we export goes to the US and is mostly timber, energy, not manufactured goods.
Whatever happens one should look to gold to hedge.

You may be faster – Mercouris is better. Thanks fanto 198 and | Feb 1 2025 12:42 utc | 199.
I note two things: one – Trump may be hard to decipher but he sent a message to Netanyahu which he ignores at his peril. And two, while Trump said a lot could be done with the ruined Gaza landscape he did not say ‘by Israel’. Everyone leapt on that to smear him. Trump’s pretty good at business and steering investment as he showed at Davos – he may not do it himself, true. But he’s alerting those that can. And he didn’t say ‘by Israel’. There are a lot of investors who do not like what Netanyahu stands for. A word in the ear from Trump? Probably wheels are already turning.
Besides, you are blaming the messenger, LoveDonbass; what about the message? I guess your time is precious so off to the next post you go. Have a listen to fanto’s link. There’s a lot there you won’t get from Telegram.

The reasons are sound. I don’t think it will yield the long-term results Donald seeks.
Trump picked the two closest and most vulnerable targets. He’s positioning the WSJ and other globalists against the people.
That’s smart.
Ideally, Canada and Mexico roll over without creating too much inflation. If they do push back, this could get dicey. I imagine that Trump already has a plan B if this early sally falls flat.

“Donald Trump says he will “absolutely” impose tariffs on the EU, because Brussels is “terrible to the United States”. At the same time, German MOD Pistorius trashed Trump’s proposal that all NATO members should cough up 5% of GDP for the collective defense:
“Five percent of our GDP would correspond to 42% of the federal budget – that’s almost every second euro that the German government spends, or 230 billion euros. We couldn’t afford that…””
Susan Singer
It is refreshing for a Western politician (1) to actually admit the gov., “couldn’t afford something”
Hope it is a trend.
1. Have you ever noticed that the word, “politician”, has three (3) ‘I’s in it? Quite appropriate.

the firm posture of the “butcher’s thumb” in the DeepSeek response…
@ too scents | Feb 1 2025 16:21 utc | 219

From the responses by Grok & ChatGPT, I was impressed by well-phrased, well-organized, even well-balanced (though “balance” is always in vain) presentations of publicly available information. As Cathy Vogan observes:

In fact American AI might be more balanced and informative than U.S. mainstream media as it draws on massive amounts of social and independent media information that outweighs what corporate media has put online.

The tell on the gold-bugs will hit hardest and firstists upon those “investors” who do not take physical control over that weighty metal. Rather, they rely on private vault operations to “hold” their precious treasures. The procedure by the central bank$ter establishment will be to put the screws to those “holding tanks”. Second targeting will logically be similar to the tactics employed by the FDR regime in ’33 where they also raided “safe” deposit boxes.
The Bank$ter cabal considers “my precious” to be all the gold they can grab.

Trump is not a complete asshole. He’s working for the jews now unfortunately, but it’s the price of admission to the big show.
Trump is a big clown obviously. But all those that fixate on that are retarded.
Cause Trump understands the distinction between theater and the actual contract.
He’s gonna sign a deal with Putin for several reasons. He knows he has to bite the bullet cause he’s supporting the slaughter in Palestine. And as a proud person, the shame would be too much, so he has to at least fix the Ukraine thing.
He’s also gonna try and bribe Egypt and Jordan with infrastructure projects to take the Palestinians (paid by US taxpayers)
That would actually be a decent plan. I’d rather be relocated than have a bomb dropped on me !

Both Egypt and Jordan are US vassals. If Trump tries to move the Palestinians there, the countries will collapse. Both Sisi and Abdullah know this.
I’m not saying Trump isn’t sincere. It’s that the stakes for his “partners” are sky-high.
He must think that beachfront property in Gaza will be very profitable.
About being bombed, you don’t understand the Resistance. They have already bled for decades for this land. The only way they lose is if they leave. They are not going to leave out of fear (many want to die as martyrs if it comes to that).
Trump and Bibi will have to exterminate them, and somehow overcome Yemen, and Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, the Israeli economy is wrecked, KSA won’t go back to the Abraham Accords until there is a Palestinian state, and the new Syrian rebels (the old establishment) have started attacking Israel militarily.
There is one way to peace.
A Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Muslims, Jews, and Christians have been living peacefully in the region (except the Crusades) for the last 1400 years until Zionism took over the US government.
Similar to how the British had to give up on the American colonies after the War of 1812, Americans will have to give up on their Israeli colony.

This is an interesting fact from Trump’s RFK appointee. This is a man that’s been ruthlessly attacked for decades due to his focus on vaccine safety.
Looking at Americans that died of covid, on average they had 3.8 other comorbidities or diseases.
Although America only has 13% of global population, it had 60% of the covid deaths. It is one of the few Western countries where lifespan is lowering and they are by their own reporting the most unhealthy country in the world.

Chinese cars aren’t EVs. They are EIVs. The I stands for intelligent.
I watched a video the other day of a self-parking Chinese vehicle. Many of these vehicles have four independent wheels that allow for crazy cornering.
The driver was a woman going to a busy mall. In the congested parking lot, she had the car park itself. If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have believed that it was already here.
ICE cars won’t be able to compete globally. Brand power and styling will no longer be enough. In China, they make a starter car for young people that has Porsche-like styling. Not an ugly car. As beautiful one.
The EIV software relies on a strong local engineering base. Western education has fallen far behind in producing the necessary engineers for the next industrial revolution.
I saw that Italy’s app stores have banned DeepSeek. Protectionism doesn’t work as it did 100 years ago when wealth was tangible and required transportation, which is why I have doubts about tariff policy from what was a very different age.
I don’t claim to have the answers but I think the mistakes/concerns should be obvious to those analysts who can avoid bias.

“Canada’s largest union Unifor, said Ottawa must retaliate swiftly to Trump’s sweeping tariffs.
One source in cabinet said they would not be surprised if Trump increases his tariffs if and when Canada counters…”
Trump has just trashed his own CUSMA trade agreement. US consumers will feel the effects of this ‘circular firing squad’ trade war as surely as Canadians will.

‘polite’ and at the right side of history, whats wrong with that ?
@ denk | Feb 1 2025 17:48 utc | 230

Nothing wrong with it, but in this case ‘politeness’ runs afoul of Consortium’s longstanding commitment to thorough airing of publicly available information. I didn’t find much wrong with the responses from USA chatbots, either (much to my surprise).
DeepSeek’s firm refusal to comment on Nuland’s role in Ukraine reflects a couple of significant principles. As explained in the text of their response, “we” (China) most scrupulously avoid unnecessary interference in others’ affairs. “Our” commitment to minding our own business is so strong, Chinese companies are (apparently, effectively) bound to ‘polite’ discourse. China probably exemplifies the only possible path toward a peaceful world, in this unyielding attitude of theirs. Nothing wrong with that.
But the existence of this non-interference, ‘politeness’ constraint, and its primacy over other informational priorities when some questions are posed, makes it blatantly obvious that what we’re hearing from DeepSeek underwent official approval from the CCP (OMG!). Like it or lump it.
A startling panoply of philosophical/technological issues is raised in DeepSeek’s debut.

The female BH copilot has been named.
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/us/dc-plane-crash-victims/index.html
Female Black Hawk pilot ‘excelled in everything’
The female Black Hawk pilot who was co-piloting the aircraft when it collided with the passenger plane this week was a “driven and hardworking” officer who “was made for” Army aviation, those who knew her recalled to CNN on Saturday.
The Army officially identified the pilot as Capt. Rebecca Lobach, 28, one of the three-person crew inside the UH-60 Black Hawk. While the Army released the names of the other two soldiers on board the Black Hawk on Friday, Lobach’s name had been withheld at her family’s request.
CNN previously reported Lobach was co-piloting the Black Hawk at the time of the collision on Wednesday evening.

In Canada there is absolute craziness in responding to the 25% tariffs, if there is one thing that brings Canadians together it is getting pissed off at America. There will be retaliatory actions from Canada, Mexico and I assume China. Trump will find this very hard to walk back, but this is going to get really ugly really fast. 60% of the crude oil used in the US comes from Canada and the US refineries are specialized to deal with heavy crude that only comes from Canada and Venezuela. Just one of those little complications that the children in the US administration have not thought about.
Long term, every country will be working hard to reduce their dependence upon the US. The mafia boss is pushing his made men too far too fast, a recipe for rebellion. The Chinese must be laughing at their opponent who is busy stabbing himself.

The mayor of Sarnia Ontario, a border city, tells CBC that he has had calls from constituents demanding the US flags which decorate the city along with the Canadian ones, be taken down.
BC Premier David Eby, speaking on the impending US tariff attack, took a media question suggesting massive Canadian ‘defence’ procurements including a multi-billion dollar purchase of F-35 fighter-bombers from Lockheed Martin be cancelled. Living within an hour’s drive from two major pumping stations for both North Dakota and Alberta pipelines through this region; I’m quite apprehensive of what will happen to gasoline prices hereabouts. The N.D. petroleum is the province of the surviving son of Fred C. Koch. So it is possible that their products will jump prices to a range of $3.50 to $4.15/gallon.
Northwestern Minnesota has experienced relatively moderate fuel prices in recent months. We have a lot of folks in this area currently just scraping by. Many people in the hereabouts have long commutes to their jobs…and to larger market town shopping access. The entirety of northern Minnesotans voted massively for Trump. High gas prices, diesel as well may end the honeymoon. A lot of the folks will feel like they have managed to jump out of the fire, but remain in a hot frying pan.
Oh Canada, why did U$ forsake you?

Of course, though, I love Palestinians, who looked after the few Israeli hostages in their keeping and shared the promised land with Abraham and his family. Christians are among the Palestinians and I am a Christian. Which also means loving Moses and the prophets, David, the story of Ruth, Abraham, Jacob who was named Isaac and had a son named Joseph… Shadrach,Mishach, and Abegnedo … Martin Buber, my German professor in college and his wife… Oh, and Jesus Christ, himself Israeli, his mother, his disciples, Paul … it’s late, many more.

It is all holy to me, especially the mountains. But that’s just me. And others like me. Here’s my daughter’s translation of a poem by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty:

Thanks for siccing my CCP. US Americans commonly call it the Chinese Communist Party, so that’s the stew I swim in until someone clears up the matter: Is there supposed to be something sinophobic about “CCP”? Because that would be news to me.
Well then, to your astute question: You can ascribe it to the CPC or to general Chinese solidarity, it really doesn’t matter how you explain DeepSeek’s non-response on geopolitically sensitive matters. It’s clearly, even openly a corporate practice entirely in accord with the national or cultural practice — worthy of warm admiration, imho — that we could all get along better if we tried to mind our own business. If countries eschewed interference in each other’s affairs.
There’s a cultural/corporate distinction here which is fascinating, and need not be dissolved into meaningless flamewar invective. China is fundamentally a planned culture, and DeepSeek is constrained to the plan because that’s the Chinese way. USA somehow swung to the opposite extreme, where we now endorse maximum amplitude chaos — as our PTB consider chaos profitable. We US Americans fancy ourselves rugged individualists. We habitually plan to fail by religiously failing to plan.

Regarding the recent DCA midair collision: After hearing the purported full pilot/controller com recording, methinks ATC will be found contributory. FAA ORDER 7110.65 dictates controller action/phraseology for authorizing pilot initiated visual separation:
“Tell the pilot about the other aircraft. Include position, direction, type, and, unless it is obvious, the other aircraft’s intention.
Obtain acknowledgment from the pilot that the other aircraft is in sight.
PHRASEOLOGY-
(ACID), TRAFFIC, (clock position and distance), (direction) BOUND, (type of aircraft), (intentions and other relevant information).
Towers must use the procedures contained in paragraph 3-1-6, Traffic Information, subparagraph b or c, as appropriate.
If aircraft are on converging courses, inform the other aircraft of the traffic and that visual separation is being applied.
PHRASEOLOGY-
(ACID), TRAFFIC, (clock position and distance), (direction) BOUND, (type of aircraft), HAS YOU IN SIGHT AND WILL MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION.
Advise the pilots if the targets appear likely to merge.”
It appears the controller may have adequately issued traffic to the copter initially but the follow-up query “do you have the CRJ in sight” did not include an updated position/direction on the CRJ which might have alerted the copter pilots as to the actual location of the traffic they were to avoid. Controller also did not issue a traffic advisory to the CRJ pilots about the copter although, obviously, the aircraft were on converging courses. Thus the CRJ was oblivious to the threat and not engaged in looking for the copter and maneuvering if necessary to avoid collision.

Trump releases one story, Claudia clarifies it, and the MAGA screams USA, USA, Mexico Caved – It will be the 52nd state for sure.
Who Caved? Claudia kept her cool, placed tariffs equal to US tariffs, and insisted on talks, and what she gave here was simple to understand. So, who caved? At the moment, nobody has stepped back except Trump.
And from Claudia .. see what Trump left out …
1. Mexico will immediately reinforce the northern border with 10,000 members of the National Guard to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, particularly fentanyl.
2. The United States is committed to working to prevent the trafficking of high-powered weapons to Mexico.
3. Our teams will begin working today on two fronts: security and trade.
4. They are pausing tariffs for one month from now.
Do you know what the absolute joke is? Claudia puts 10,000 National Guard on the border to stare down the US forces on the other side of the river. How many Fentanyl local backyard labs are in the US? And how many US doctors use Fentanyl for medical purposes? Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use as an analgesic (pain relief) and anesthetic. And where does that legal Fentanyl come from? Yeah, you guessed, China.
Now for the reality:
Trump forgot to mention the weapons (bolded above) because he has to look strong as if he has not given anything in negotiating with the clever Claudia.
Talks. Tariffs? not yet. Maybe not ever. Claudia gave away nothing.
China was brusque and said: ‘Your Fentanyl problem is your problem and not ours. We have been working with you but what you are doing is disturbing that work.’

Regarding the mid-air collision that happened between a blackhawk helicopter and an American Airlines CRJ700 commercial plane:
The practice of the helicopter pilots “requesting visual separation” appears to be widely used when controlling aircraft in and around DCA airport in Washington D.C. The exchange most often starts from the control tower to the helicopter. “Aircraft XX there is aircraft YY at x.x nautical miles at xx degrees from you….do you see the aircraft?”. The helicopter pilot, evidently hearing this; visually finds the aircraft, and responds to the the tower, ” I see aircraft XX, request visual separation”. This means the pilot is asking the tower for the pilot to take responsibility to keep separation from the other aircraft, both vertical and horizontally. The tower controller, would then respond, “Visual separation approved”. From much info on blogs and reports I’ve read, it is apparent that there is a very large volume of helicopter traffic in the area from military flights. It is apparent that it is understood, that if the helicopter pilot wants to fly his own route, instead of being vectored by the tower, he needs to acknowledge a visual contact with the aircraft specified, and request visual separation. If he does not, the tower controller will need to instruct the pilot what course to take to maintain separation, and will need to continue to monitor the flight, requiring more time and effort.
Now, when the tower asked the helicopter pilot if he had a visual identification of the CRJ aircraft on the first call, the CRJ was 5 nautical miles away, or 5.75 land miles away. Looking head on the CRJ 700’s body, engines have a diameter of about 20 feet. The wingspan is 76 feet, though the wings are only a few feet high. From the helicopter, the CRJ700 is 30,360 feet away. At arms length of 4 feet (being generous) the apparent size of the aircraft would be:
24/30,360=z/4 where “z” is the apparent size.
Solving for Z the apparent size of the aircraft is .0057 feet, or .0684 inches… less than 1/10th of one inch. The wingspan apparent size would be 0.4 inches. At night, all you would see is a point of light. Now, say there are 3-4 other aircraft out there in the same direction. How do you know which one is the CRJ700. Answer, you don’t.
OK, now say it’s 1 nautical mile, now the apparent size is 0.20″ still smaller than the head of a typical pencil eraser looked at from the end.
The two aircraft were traveling towards each other at a combined speed of 360 knots per hour. Or 414 mph. They were pretty much on a collision course, meaning that the location of the other as viewed from one of them would not appear to be moving….only getting slowly larger. At night, even at that distance, it’s still a light in the sky, if you see it.
At 0.5 nautical miles the apparent size is 0.31 inches, a little over 1/2 size of a dime.
At the speed they were traveling the 1/2 nautical mile distance would close to “zero” in about 4.5 seconds. Bam!!!
It was also brought up that the plane was above the helicopter, descending, at about 10 o’clock to the view of the helicopter pilot. Looking at the cockpit view from inside a blackhawk helicopter, and the fact that the copter flies with “nose down”, the view of this point may not have ever been seen, especially the close it got to the plane. See the blog pprune dot org, a professional pilots blog for more info. One of the posters searched a database from DCA ATC that reports “near misses”, and he quickly found about 40 reports of near misses of helicopters and planes, some reporting 100′ or less from a collision.
The whole concept of “visual separation” by a pilot , at night, in a busy airspace, over a city with thousands of lights….is ludicrous, insane, according to experienced pilots. But it is used/abused by ATC to deal with understaffing, and increased traffic, to keep the planes flying and the money flowing…. Sometimes the ATC will ask the pilot of aircraft to take the responsibility of “visual separation”. If the pilot says he can’t see the other aircraft, or refuses visual separation, oftentimes they are punished by have to abort their landing, and circle around again. This costs the airline delays, higher fuel costs, etc.
In many countries, no “visual separation” allowances can be used in busy airspace, during the day or night; especially at night. The ATC and the systems employed are responsible to maintain separation of aircraft. Same for many airlines…their pilots are required not to use this tool.. In effect, when you do, you are taking all responsibility for whatever happens after that. The ATC is off the hook…not that that is their intent. I’m sure 99% are just trying to do their job, the best they can with the hand they have been dealt.
The other big issue is that the Route 4 flight plan used by the helicopter pilot, matched with the approach of a plane using runway 33 at DCA come within 100-200′ vertically of each other. The plane has to be on a certain glide path to land, no option to change there. The general rule is that aircraft should never come closer than 500′ vertically or horizontally to each other by FAA rules.
Now add in the fact that altimeters have to be set all the the time, and are accurate to about +/-25 feet at best. The FAA regs allow up to 75′ plus or minus variation of altimeter vs. actual elevation. They are set by barometric pressure at ground level, or close to an airport, the airport’s barometric pressure may be entered used by the pilot. The altimeter reading on the plane is gospel. It is reported from the plane electronically to the tower by ADS-B. Info on the FAA regs around altimeters is found at “Safety of Flight/Barometric Altimeter Errors and Setting Procedures” faa dot gov.
So, plus 75′ on the lower flying aircraft, and -75′ on the higher descending aircraft= 150′ error possible.
So, it is a good thing that an immediate action taken was to “shut down” the use of runway 33 and also the helicopter route 4.
The question is: Will the FAA and the government’s executive branch take the necessary steps to change the procedures country wide to prevent this from happening again. Or will they just assign responsibility (blame) make some cosmetic changes around DCA, and continue on.
I won’t be flying into or out of DCA anymore, learning what a clusterf**k is going on there with regard to air safety.

How do you know you or anyone had “covid”? According to the WHO the symptoms are non-specific (and neither necessary nor sufficient), meaning there is more than cause. Experiencing an illness, even if seems unique, does not tell you the cause. Every experience/feeling is always different in some way, because the conditions always change. However, this does not mean the authorities are telling you the truth.

https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-2019-nCoV-Surveillance_Case_Definition-2022.1
1. The symptoms are non-specific
2. The symptoms are neither necessary nor sufficient for a diagnosis
3. The specificity and sensitivity of the assays (PCR/NAAT and Antigen) is unknown because they have never been validated against the gold standard (the virus)

https://health.ec.europa.eu/document/download/0e6a2061-c3d2-46c8-a3aa-cebcd102500c_en#page=19
4. The existence of the virus “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2” (SARS-CoV-2) has never been scientifically proven

If one accepts all of the above then one has no choice but to conclude that disease called “Coronavirus disease 2019” aka “COVID-19” is not real.
