I think in essence: yes. By putting human and financial assets side-by-side, you have caught on well that there is something dehumanizing
about all this. But in the world of proxy armies etc, that’s how it goes. You take somebody’s money to fight for a country or cause that is
not your own, then you may have lowered yourself into a commodity. Better think twice first.
When I say “Turkish asset” etc I mean “a person or group which is under the de facto control of Turkey, whether Turkey publicly
acknowledges them or not.” You were trained by Turkish special forces to fight with Turkish weapons; you put Turkish Liras in your pocket;
you operate from the jihad paradise of Idlibstan, which is a de facto Turkish protectorate; then that’s how it’ll work out for you. I think
that’s is how the word is widely used in English; somebody with experience in that world may know more, but how many of those are posting
here.
