Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
December 24, 2024
Christmas

Long before Christianity evolved, people on the northern half of the planet celebrated the winter solstice as the end of  the dark times and the coming of light. Roman Christianity moved the day on which it commemorates the birth of Jesus to the winter solstice. It added a layer to the meaning of the holiday.

Hope for a new beginning, needed as much today as ever. Hope that the walls of darkness will come down.

Like every Christmas I am visiting my larger family and enjoy to cook for them. The kids have grown and challenge me to adopt to their new tastes. Their minds are still mostly untouched by the dark realities we usually discuss here. They are open for new insights and challenges. Their curiosity encourages us to be likewise open to new ideas.

I wish you all a contemplative, hope- and peaceful Christmas.

O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

Thanks for your thoughtful sentiments. The photo is perfect and for those who are believers whether mainstream or alt-Christians (we exist) this photo tells it all. The forces of repression, violence and hate are our enemies not the corrupt politicians and master criminals that dominate Western political life–they’re drones who reflect a cultural mentality that must be deconstructed before we have a chance of having leaders who actually mean well. The symbol of the cross is for me the path of spiritual unfoldment whether no matter the outward label of that religious/spiritual tradition. Ultimately, those of us who have been “baptized” by spiritual practices of meditation, prayer, self-reflection, and so on must continue to center ourselves in those practices rather than the endless quest for material wealth, thrills, status, and so on. It will take time but I hope we can meditate on where we are at in this Christmas season.

A different Christmas celebration from Spain, for contrast. Verdiales is a local folk music that stretches right back, some say pre-Roman. In this clip two groups are present, and they eventually meet and play against/with the other group. The church and the national flags are present, but bringing life to it all, celebrating renewal, are the musicians and their music.

With the message of the Angel to the humble shepherds in announcing the birth of our Savior, greetings: “Peace to men of good will.” Without Christ there is no Christ-mas. (“mas” refers to the Mass, where the Sacrifice of our Savior is re-presented on the Altars of Eastern and Western Catholic Masses.) We gentiles have what was taken away from the Jews for their deicidal infidelity: the priesthood;the unbloody Sacrifice of Christ – the Lamb of God – on our Altars; consecrated men for the priesthood;and a High priest in the papacy.
One day, probably in the not too far future, true peace will be given to this world, and mankind will take note that it was brought about through Christ’s mercy by means of the mediation of His Vicar on earth – a humble, pious, courageous pope – when such a pope finally obeys God!

There is an error in the article. Christmas was not moved to the Winter Solstice. December 25 is 3 – 5 days (since the Winter Solstice occurs sometime between December 20 – 23, as is noted on modern calendars) after the solstice and this was done to represent the Light that the celebrated birth of Yeshua (known as Jesus in Western societies) brought to the world. It is that offset that the early Church used to denounce the pagan celebrations surrounding the Winter Solstice. – Rev. J.T. Smith

Still the same stupidities every year about the winter solstice. In the early third century, Tertullian was already mentionning the celebration of the announciation on the equivalent of March, 24 (in our calendar). Since the gospels tell us that John the baptist was 6 months older than Jesus, it’s not surprising that christmas happens on December, 25, so 6 months after the birth of John the Baptists.

I did not know about that celebration, but I must say a Spain that is no more, if not because today exhibiting the national flag anywhere would be considered a fascist thing to do since it is a remaining sign of pride and sovereignty at odds with the imperial obedience and mandate and the current conditon of Spain as US colony…

“enjoy to cook”
Small world after all. I will be cooking today.
My wife asked for a Christmas present, a special recipe I have made.
It is made from scratch so will take a couple of hours, and more.
This guy even cleans the pots himself afterwards.
I enjoy hiking, standing in one place for two hours or more is harder.
My first step is to line up in order all the ingredients, plus utensils…
do kids still get chemistry sets for Christmas? At this moment I am remembering mine.
Tomorrow we will be sharing a treat.
Merry Christmas to All !

At this time of enormous global tension and battle may our hearts open to the information that the head of what in Christian terms is known as the Order of Melchizedek, and esoterically as the holder of the office Planetary Christ, is in the world. Observe closely the decisions of the great actors upon the world stage and perceive who may have may be cooperating with him and who is certainly doing everything possible to oppose. Brotherhood, love, sharing, justice and cooperation are our destiny. Thankfully we have Christmas come once a year to dimly remind us that these values are what are most important in life.

As I was told, Christmas was not moved to the solstice but to the pagan festival of Sun-Return. Sun-Return being the first day it was noticeable that days were again getting longer. The larger purpose being to require parishioners attendance at Catholic mass on the days of important pagan festivals to make it difficult to attend both.

Gee thanks, Rev! At first I thought you were nit-picking, but you tell me something I didn’t know: There’s a reason for that little gap between winter solstice and Christmas.
Notably, hardly anyone seems to care about the actual day of the year on which Jesus was born. The way some holy Roman emperor just dictates that henceforth it’ll be December 25 — It somewhat resembles how vital facts are concocted for fictional characters, no?

I’m under the impression – that there’s not one shred of evidence to suggest that Jesus was born on December 25th – also that the Church (Council of Nicea 325AD) decided to supplant a pagan festival that was held around this time, possibly Yuletide – with Jesus birthday to try and kill-off paganism.
Christmas is racket – nothing more than money making adventure for a multitude of businesses – infact if you ask me religion – is oppressive and divisive.
There are a few stories, form other religions that predate Jesus and are a similar story people should be good and kind all year round not just at Christmas.
I had the misfortune to hear part of the ultra-Zionst and genocide enabler – Kier Starmer’s (English PM) Christmas speech – in which he spoke of kindness – goodness and humanity.
For those that believe in Christmas and all that – have a good one.

As the now deceased comedian George Carlin said – if you want to worship something worship the sun – it gives us life, heat, it grows our food, its steady and reliable, its always there, it gives us light – it doesn’t require you to dial a number and send a donation – infact the sun gives life to the entire world – and suns in general light up our galaxy and the universe.
Forget gods – in any form, without suns the universe would be all but dark – cold. and dead.

Jose Gomes @ 63:
Cultures in Iran and nearby areas (in Central Asia especially), which historically were under Zoroastrian religious influence, celebrate their New Year (Nowruz) during the Spring Equinox in March, when hours of daylight are equal in length with the hours of darkness.
At the other extreme, Jewish cultures celebrate their New Year around the time of the Autumn Equinox in September. When we consider that once upon a time (2,500 years ago) Jews came under Persian rule and borrowed religious concepts from Zoroastrianism, then choosing a different time of year to celebrate New Year comes down to what cultures really value and what meaning and symbolism New Year has for them.
For some cultures that value patience and resilience, the Winter Solstice represents the renewal of the forces of light and all the qualities associated with it.
Incidentally the Maori people in New Zealand celebrate their New Year (Matariki) around the time of the Winter Solstice in June, when the Pleiades star group (Matariki) becomes visible in the night sky. In some parts of New Zealand, June 20 has become a public holiday to observe Matariki.

When is hope needed the most? When it’s dark and cold, and everything seems hopeless.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Yet billions of dollars worth of such cargo routinely streams into Ukraine through well know routes, entry points.
Apparently uninterruptedly. And makes its way all the way to Kursk. Where it arrives in such plenitude as to enable continued aggressive expansionary tactics even though reportedly unsuccessful.
Washington, that implacable, totally devoted and infinitely capable warrior has no trouble showing how it can be done, even on the high seas – and be unremarked by all.

Just one more query to add to the swelling chorus.

And a Merry Xmas to you. I am much appreciative of Hungary and masquerade as a Hungarian by choice when using vpn to access world news my western curators will not let me see.
Your Vikto Orban I’ve described as the only politician in Europe. That, I hope, is an exaggeration but you see what I mean I guess. It certainly wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration. Have a good one. 🙂

Happy times to everyone.
Just would like to say something to the devout who perhaps feel under attack and opprobrium for their faith – and to the uncertain who perhaps can’t make sense or reason from the whole ‘religion’ thing. And even to those who are firm in their conviction that it is all tripe.
I’d like to say that in my opinion the ‘NDE people’ – i.e. those who tell their personal tales of their experiences – are exactly the same as the people of old, thousands of years ago, that we know now as ‘prophets’ and ‘seers’ and ‘sages’ and ‘enlightened’ etc.
It has been happening to people in the world for millennia. Since forever. Why we choose to ignore them today whilst building vast edifices on what we know of what happened to one or two of them two thousand years ago is a bit of a mystery.
Don’t ignore them, today, I suggest. Consult them. Listen to them. Watch the videos. There’s more today than ever before. They are burgeoning.
The message is simple. I will not voice it. Find it for yourself, I urge you. They bring the ‘Xmas message’ par excellence.
Youtube. Search on ‘NDE’. I will provide a couple from my saved urls but I urge everyone to do their own research.
a good one. young fellow. speaks well. worth showing to people.

Merry christmas Bernhard, it is good that there are still people that have hope, against all odds, we are here to do better for our kids, so they dont have to, eh?
Merry yule, this holiday has nothing to do in reality with the birth of Jesus (first week of March)

If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed that the RU prefers to follow the weapons and ammo to the warehouses and then send a big FAB drone to inspect them, blow them up, or follow the convoys that deliver the weapons to the front lines. I don’t get it when people criticize Russia for winning the war on a Winter Solstice thread, but I guess you meant well.
