Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

The ‘Birth Pangs’ Of The New Middle East May Not Be The Ones The U.S. Has Wished For

Edward Luce for the FT:

How Netanyahu is ‘running rings’ around Biden (archived)
The US president had hoped to disentangle from the Middle East. But the turbulence in the region could influence the election and define his legacy

“Netanyahu knows how to play the Washington game better than most US politicians,” says Alon Pinkas, a former Israeli diplomat, now columnist for the Haaretz newspaper. “And he has been running rings around Biden.”

On countless occasions over the past year, Netanyahu has appeared to agree to one thing with Washington and done the opposite in practice. Whether it is wranglings over the terms of a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release, or the more recent attempt at a 21-day ceasefire with Hizbollah, each time Biden is left looking impotent. “The Biden administration seems to be saying, ‘We’re suffering from a bit of autumn damp,’ ” says Pinkas. “No, this isn’t seasonal damp, it’s Netanyahu urinating all over you.

This has been the general theme of a media campaign for a while. "Natanyahoo is steamrolling Biden and the poor guy can do nothing about it."

I do not buy it. One phone call from the White House to the Pentagon would hold resupply flights from the U.S. to Israel. Without constant supply renewal the Israeli Air Force would have to stop its bombing campaigns in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen within days if not within hours.

But instead of calling the Pentagon the whole Middle East team around Biden, Antony Blinken, Brett McGurk and IDF soldier Amos Hochstein, has been urging Israel to extend its campaign.

They are hoping, like the neoconservatives in 2006 during the Bush administration, for the 'birth pangs of a new Middle East', which will forever change the strategic situation on the ground.

Behind the scenes, Hochstein, McGurk and other top U.S. national security officials are describing Israel’s Lebanon operations as a history-defining moment — one that will reshape the Middle East for the better for years to come.

The thinking goes: Israel has obliterated Hezbollah’s top command structure in Lebanon, severely undercutting the group’s capabilities and weakened Iran, which used Hezbollah as a proxy and power projector.

The internal administration division seems to have dissipated somewhat in recent days, with top U.S. officials convening Monday at the White House with President Joe Biden to discuss the situation on the ground. Most agreed that the conflict, while fragile, could offer an opportunity to reduce Iran’s influence in Lebanon and the region.

The conclusion from this is that Netanyahoo is largely doing exactly what the Biden administration wants him to do.

The strategic situation may well change. But it is not going to be the way Biden and Netanyahoo may hope for.

Most of the 200 missiles Iran fired on Israel two days ago passed through the Israeli air defenses and hit their targets with good precision. Some expensive air planes got damaged but no one was hurt. A similar strike on Israeli energy facilities could easily disable the country for months of years to come. A strike on IDF barracks or Israeli population centers could easily cause mass casualties.

Shortly after the strike President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Doha, Qatar:

The Saudi minister voiced his country's determination to develop relations with Iran, Xinhua news agency reported.

"We seek to close the page of differences between the two countries forever and work towards the resolution of our issues and expansion of our relations like two friendly and brotherly states," he said.

He highlighted the "very sensitive and critical" situation in West Asia due to Israel's "aggressions" against Gaza and Lebanon and its attempts to expand the conflict in the region. He said Saudi Arabia trusted Iran's wisdom and discernment in managing the situation and contributing to the restoration of calm and peace in the region.

Yesterday the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, held Friday prayers in Tehran. Little remarked in western media was the fact that he sermon was largely voiced in Arabic and that the whole event was seen on Arabic live TV through AlJazeerah.

This already is a new Middle East in which the Gulf states are no longer hostile to Iran and which the religious schisms between Sunni and Shia has largely lost its power.

Who then is left of the former U.S. allies? On whom can it call for support in the region when it plans to attack Iran?

Has this whole U.S.-Israeli campaign really helped to "reduce Iran’s influence in Lebanon and the region"? Will continuing it ever do so?

My impression for one is that it has strengthened the front against Israel and the positions of Iran in and beyond the Middle East.

My assessment based on this information:
– The destruction of Hezbollah’s Public-facing Senior Leadership has not affected Hezbollah’s capacity to fire missiles or carry out ground defence.
– The Resistance seems to striking a wide range of targets all over ‘Israel’ continuously.
– The rate and quality of strikes is the most intense it has been in 30 years.
– IDF casualties are the highest they’ve been in 20 years.
– The damage to physical Israhelli infrastructure is the highest in 20 years.
– Iron Dome is operating with at least 50% effectiveness (in my personal estimation)
– The IOF ground infiltration over the past 4 – 5 days has been a complete failure.
– IOF targets seem to include almost exclusively civilian or state infrastructure or political figures resident in their homes.

Interesting. I can see that being partially true, but how does that effect Russia and Venezuela? Is market commodity bets enough of a prize? The past sanctions definitely curtailed Iranian production, the Obama regime certainly spent enough foreign policy time and capital on that outcome, even getting Russia and China on board for a while.
That might explain the SA FM cozying up to Iran, they want their production intact, maybe they were tipped off?

Do you need “Intel Slava” to inform yourself about the Zionist “decision” to hit back very very very very hard. “Imminent Attack”, “Devastating Response”, … can’t you see the game that they are trying to play?

Yeah!, Starlink and others massive american “civilian” satellites constellations are of course, military projects of the Pentagon (MIC) as we could see in Ukraine, the russians and the chinese know this very well. But the answer the russian are preparing I think is “asymmetric” in nature, it will consist in creating a huge “Kessler syndrome” and sweep all the satellites in LEO and MEO orbits silencing all the communication and positioning satellites and avoiding any satellite or manned mission to the space for the following 1000 years.
So say hello! to the world before 1957 (Sputnik).
NATO, and specially USA depends much more than Russia of a reliable network of satellites for communication, positioning and spying (IRS), the russian are fighting the war in their gates, it is always USA that fight wars thousands of kilometers away, so it is USA who needs much more the satellites for its imperial wars, blind the MIC and they will retreat from the world to the “Western Hemisphere” very very soon.

I suspect that the Ukrainian Khazars
just want to use the Talmudic racism , knowing very well that they aren’t Jewish in either origin nor belief.
The Khazars are just very convincing, persistent liars , which is why they have been deployed against Russia in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The Greater Israel slogan is just camouflage for Nato opening a Southern Front against Russia.
It’s high time for Russia to stop thinking of Israel as an Intelligence whorehouse that peddles information from Pegasus spyware , and started looking at it as her Southern equivalent of NATO/ Europe.
Any influence the Russian Israeli Left- wing used to have in Israel is now KowTowing to the Khazar,European , non-Jew, Netanyahu Nazis.
Waiting for Russia which is part of Europe to understand that Nato
doesn’t love it any more has been painfully slow, and by the time Russia which is part of West Asia realises that West Asia is just another face of Nato, West Asia will be finished.
If Nato can capture China , Russia is toast.
Anyway , I’m sure you are a greater expert on the evils of racism than I am. So far as I’m concerned , Russia IS Europe. It’s only the US Khazar Neocons that feel no fraternity with Russia, nor Europe, mor Asia mor Africa nor anywhere else.
They need urgently to be deleted from the face of the earth.

China’s economy is the main threat to US dominance. For much of the world now, China is the main or a major trading partner. The world economically has been gravitating towards China.
China has to import a lot of its energy. Energy costs greatly affect the price of a finished product.
US has plenty of light oil but has to import heavy oil. If the US can keep its energy prices low, but drive world energy prices up, that puts China at a disadvantage. With the Trans Alaskan oil pipeline completed, US was close to self sufficient in oil. After the discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay, US did the deal with the Saudi’s to create the petro-dollar.
Within weeks of the first barrel of oil coming through the pipe, the main part of the Iranian revolution kicked of driving oil prices sky high. By then many countries required US dollars to buy oil. With oil prices sky rocketing, they needed many more US dollars.
Venezuela has the heavy crude US needs if is again to drive world oil prices sky high.
The realists in the US look to have gained ascendancy with the defeat in Ukraine. They tend to look at cutting empire back to a manageable size rather than full spectrum dominance, yet I assume retaining Americas role as a major superpower.
Full control over their ‘backyard’ and its resources and taking down China are primary aims.
Full control over Persian gulf oil is a strong strategic position.
At the moment, the US looks to be targeting Iran’s allies in the region. Possibly a move on Venezuela after the US election and inauguration and if successful, a major move on Iran.
The US candidate has announced he would be going back to Venezuela about January 10 to take his “rightfully place as the elected president” So US is obviously planning a move on Venezuela around that time. The plans of mice and men….

Thanks for your comment. Below is the Reuters quote. This is clearly not the S-300 protecting the RuN at Tartous, it looks to be the S-300 loaned to the SyAF that had not been used so the RuAF decided to put it to better use in Crimea.
“Aug 29 2022 (Reuters) – Russia has shipped a battery of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Syria to a Russian port near Crimea, according to an Israeli satellite imaging company, in an apparent attempt to bolster its air defences in the war with Ukraine. ImageSat International (ISI) captured pictures showing the presence of the S-300 anti-aircraft battery at Masyaf, Syria in April, and the empty site left behind on Aug. 25 after the hardware was shipped to the port of Tartus.”

Russia Shipped S-300’s to Syria after Israeli planes drew fire that downed a Russian transport. Russia said something about training Syrian crews but those units were Russian domestic, not export version. Though after that shootdown, I believe all Syrian air defence came under Russian control.
The move was mostly to quieten Israel down a bit. I assume if there had of been another incident like that, then ‘Syrian’ air defence (Russian operators) would have shot down the Israeli aircraft.

Thats got to sting the perpetual Russian victory folks here. I wish they would explain the perplexing mystery of how Russia will defend Iran against Israel when it wont do the same for Syria. Will the “Russians” in Israel suddenly turn to full Israeli as soon as the attack starts?
Posted by: Moonie | Oct 6 2024 1:43 utc | 320
Russia shipped the extra S-300 on loan to the SyAF back in the day when Syria was under attack from ISIS etc supported by external Coalition aircraft, mainly to deter the latter. It worked so now that threat doesn’t exist they pulled it back.
There is no mystery, Russia made it totally clear that neither it nor their other assets, were there to protect Syria or Iranian assets in Syria, that was down to other SyAF AD assets. Russian AD, SAMs and aircraft, are the to defend Russian assets. There is no comparison with the situation in Iraq.

It seems that Hezbollah had a safeguard agreement with the United States. It did not evacuate its premises or move its leaders from the facilities because it believed that the United States would prevent Israel from attacking them. It is the United States that has “destroyed diplomatic guarantees,” according to a statement from the Lebanese resistance movement….

Posted by: Arch Bungle | Oct 6 2024 9:28 utc | 410 ‘My assessment based on this information:”
Is somewhat inaccurate.
– The Resistance seems to striking a wide range of targets all over ‘Israel’ continuously.
If by Resistance you mean Hezbollah, “all over Israel” or just in the north?
– IOF targets seem to include almost exclusively civilian or state infrastructure or political figures resident in their homes.
You forgot senior Hezbollah political and military leadership in their bunkers. Also some IRGC leadership if the reports are to be believed. How much Lebanese state infrastructure have they stuck? Crossing points into Syria, what else?
– The damage to physical Israhelli infrastructure is the highest in 20 years.
Agree with this, but keep in mind how “quiet” things have been since 2006. Have they hit the offshore gas platforms?
– The rate and quality of strikes is the most intense it has been in 30 years.
Agree, but again it was “quiet” since 2006.
– IDF casualties are the highest they’ve been in 20 years.
Agree, makes sense as this is the biggest war in 20 years. Likely the same can be said of casualties on Hezbollah’s side. Hezbollah had been posting death notices to support this claim until recently.
– The destruction of Hezbollah’s Public-facing Senior Leadership has not affected Hezbollah’s capacity to fire missiles or carry out ground defence.
The number of missiles fired per day, is far less than had been claimed a year or two ago. The numbers thrown around where that there were over 100,000 missiles. So far less than 10,000 have been fired. Maybe the claims were wrong or maybe things have been affected.
– Iron Dome is operating with at least 50% effectiveness (in my personal estimation)
As you say, your estimation. Given that a lot of the Hezbollah’s rockets are unguided and thus fall in open spaces, Iron Dome doesn’t fire at them. However, at some point Israel must be running low on interceptors. Thus at some point they will have to try to only protect higher value targets.
– The IOF ground infiltration over the past 4 – 5 days has been a complete failure.
This remains to be seen. There are videos of the IDF walking around inside Lebanon, but each one I’ve seen they are not that far from the border. What is the IDF’s plan?
Who speaks for Hezbollah now if there is going to be a ceasefire?

Some observers say the missiles struck a gas platform. Other say, it is simply a demonstration of ability; two ballistic missiles, launched from bases hundreds of kilometers apart, impact at the same exact location at sea, with pinpoint accuracy. The message: Iran can hit wherever it wants.

Posted by: Peter AU1 | Oct 6 2024 10:45 utc | 439
Not a transport, it was an Il-20M ELINT (small RC-135 Rivet Joint equivalent) aircraft with a dozen or so specialists on board. The non Israeli view at the time was that the SyAF fired a S-200 at a pair of attacking F-16s without realising that the Il-20M was in the way, that the IAF pilots did know and were hiding behind it is disputed.
We can probably conclude what Russia saw on their screens from, yes, within a month the S-300 arrived on loan staying for 4 years.

There was a comment posted above (I forgot by whom) that accurately described the results of Judaizing America.
Some other commenter wonders why the US can’t field hypersonic missiles. You may think I’m an asshole, and that’s OK, but trust me on this because I work in the belly of the beast. The US will not produce effective weaponry in time because it lacks the intellectual capability to develop them. Not to mention the lack of industrial capacity (necessary for producing weapons in large quantities) and lack of resources. This is entirely due to the successful Judaization of America.
The Jewish program of hurling America into the abyss of identity politics has rendered America too weak to feed the Jewish demon. The Jews only think they’re smart. As many of you point out above, the Jews will extract the last little bit they can from the decrepit American State, but what then? Of course, there WILL have to be the next Great War, without which this unstable situation is not resolvable.

I consider this forum to be equal parts information and noise. You add a lot to the information part.
re: Israel vs USA. I find the entire debate to be pointless, its just a big distraction, and part of the noise. Even if this a reasonable question (I’m not sure), it is of no use for the current situation. Do you really think that planners in Moscow, Beijing, Tehran ponder if the jews have the White House in the bag or vice versa?
Here’s a comparison with 9/11. Only gullible people believe the official story. The rest spent a lot of online time on LIHOP vs. MIHOP (very similar to the dog & tail rants here, IMO), or about the pesky details of stress tensors at WTC7. I claim that’s pointless: we may never know exactly what happened. But we don’t have to! We *do* know exactly how 9/11 was used immediately: Middle East wars with US troops (not just proxy) and we know about the “7 countries in 5 years” plan because that’s been part of the official discussion. This is enough to file the 9/11 case.
I know it won’t happen but I suggest to do the same with the current Middle East politics, and to put the “beetlejews beetlejews” to rest.

I expect the Hezbollah Expeditionary Force (HEF) in Syria will overrun the Conoco and ohters yanks bases in Syria y the USAF or Navy star to bomb Iran or Hezb positions, the same in Irak by Hezbollah, the PMF and the huge Iranian Expeditionary Force (Quds Force) present in Irak, with some help, of course, of the Iranian Missile Force; they should attack by land, also, the big US garrison in Kuwait, to take some thousands POW and some hundreds or thousands killed. If the yanks try to scape to Jordan, I suppose they have filled the roads from the bases with hundreds of IED’s waiting for them.
In any case the US government, the congress, every poltician in USA is paid by the AIPAC, so they give a damn about the lives of the american soldiers in those countries. My take from a conversation I heard with Andrei Martyanov is that Russia will defend Iran from a Zionazi attack. This would explain why Bibi is walking back the rhetoric and trying to talk to Mr. Putin. Given the tech imbalance between the two side and the distances involved, IMO a few AWACs and a barrage of R-37Ms should mince any attempt. And the Russians are now very experienced defending territory from missile attack. Obviously, there is ample precedent. Vietnam, the 1967 war, the Korean war are just a few we know of when Russian pilots engaged NATOstan directly ala Flying Tigers. All in all, its a bad time to be a Zionazi.

@Titchy #112
Anyone can see the strong links that have developed between Tel-Aviv and the ethos running the US foreign politics. Henry Ford wrote a book on related topics in 1922. He unfortunately used thd word Jew instead of the more appropriate Zionist qualifier and he was subjected to a similar treatment as Elon Musk was later when Musk went to Israel. Jabotinsky published his first book a year later in 1923 on the relations between the Zionists colonizing Palestine and the Arabs and the natives of Palestine. However, as Jabotinsky writes, the first American colonizers were zlreafy in the business of stealing the lands of the natives and later the lands of the Mexicans before joining forces with Zionists in West Asia and taking over the remains of the European colonies after WWII.
I think that the scope of the US ambitions far exceeds the Zionist universe. For now, the zionists remain a partner of the US team as long as the US remains the strongest entity. The weakening of the US will likely cause many Jewish associations to distance themselves from the Zionist agenda.

Given the privileged position of religion in the US, it is politically risky to defy Christian Zionism, the dogma that the Holy Land was given by God to the Chosen People. Christianity has a de facto position as the American religion, thus it is patriotic to adhere to that. I think the remarkable thing about Netanyahu’s last visit is the number of Democrats who boycotted, not the number who expressed their patriotic loyalty to America’s ally, who is also against Islam, the enemy of America. Being a Christian Zionist is not only acceptable to those who consider the Old Testament part of the American heritage (and might even consider Jesus was a Jew?) but those who are relieved that the Jews have their country and are pleased it’s not ours.

Because they live in the West? They’re expressing abhorrence at the murderous imbecility of their so called leaders and considering how they can be brought on war crimes charges. People don’t get to pick where they are born. Countries also do not get automatic loyalty to whatever idiotic agenda their leaders are flogging.
To wit, the idea men become women and vice versa is rejected by the majority of thinking people. They will pay lip service to it and certainly don’t care what you do privately but when ypu have biological men displacing women in rape shelters and in sports events even the normies, as they say, start to look askew. In the West now it’s like Soviet times where people don’t say what they really think in public due to worry about censure by authoritarian moralizing busy bodies.
I’m only mentioning this to point out that most Westerners are aghast at the actions of the government. Noone is going to join up to fight Iran for Empire.

Thanks, I will need some grease to get my foot out of my mouth. It is easier to do than than if it was in my backside. Then I would need help.

United States CENTCOM chief Gen. Michael Kurilla landed in Israel this evening to meet with Israeli defense and military officials, amid preparations in the IDF for a response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack.
————
High ranking military officers are usually heavily politically compromised. However, Kurilla is probably more likely than the CIA or Biden’s immediate advisors to view Iran objectively.

The Pentagon has (very quietly) shown its ability to rein in its civilian masters with Z’s ambitions for deep strikes on Russia.
Anyone know what the message was to the Izzy’s?

Here is the video of the Mosque being hit, Its disgusting. Not sure is its the same Mosque you mention but it purports to be in the video.
IDF BEGINS DEMOLISHING MOSQUES IN SOUTHERN LEBANON
Strike for Strike. Turn the Zio’s lights off. Turn their water off. Imagine a synagogue being hit like this and the worlds reaction. Take out a large Mosque and what do we hear? Crickets

Very short video directed at US leadership about how devastating a war with Iran will be.
4 minutes, well worth watching.

” but US apart from the Musk companies have a very poor track record of developing anything these last few decades.
Musk might end up with a successful heavy lift rocket, but will the pentagon have anything for it to lift?

Does it matter though? Ask yourself, where does the ” private ” SpaceX end and the M.I.C. begin? SpaceX, TESLA are just “private” fronts for the dark establishment. Nations that allow them to operate in their lands deserve their fates.
” Starlink in Yemen: a Trojan horse for espionage?
The unusual announcement that Starlink will offer its first West Asian satellite connectivity services in Yemen, of all places, has sparked a furor in Sanaa, with concerns that the project aims to infiltrate Yemen’s national security apparatus to reverse US–Israeli losses in the region’s waterways. ”
” Another concerning aspect is the involvement of Israel. Israel’s spy satellites, OFEK-13 and OFEK-14, are reportedly linked to Starlink’s satellite network. SpaceX, as a third party, may provide critical guidance and intelligence to these satellites, further enhancing Tel Aviv’s surveillance capabilities in the region. This connection between Starlink and Israeli intelligence efforts has heightened fears in Yemen that the satellite network will be used to undermine the country’s security and sovereignty. ”

Speculation for now, but not completely without basis:

“Social media has erupted with explosive claims that the Saturday’s earthquake in the Semnan province was as a result of Iran conducting its first nuclear test.
Rifat Jawaid examines the truth.”
The NOTAM issued by the Iranian authorities, together with the earthquake timing, military exercises, current tensions in the region make this worth a second look.
All analysis based on seismic data.
However, my (admittedly poor) understanding is that the signature of a nuclear test is exposed as an electromagnetic wave or burst of subatomic particles, not purely a seismic effect.

I suspect Macron had to suspend overt weapons supply to Israel for domestic political reasons. Likely Israel knows that, but has to punish France anyway, just so they know who is “boss”.

*** Zionism coincidentally started picking up steam once Rockefeller started making a fortune off oil and the oil was discovered in the Persian Gulf. So I’m not sure which God Evangelicals worship, it doesn’t appear to be Christ.***
It’s overtly there in front of the so-called “Christian Zionists” own hysterical, sanctimonious noses …. but they contrive not to notice. What is the flag/logo of Israel and the Jews?
If they stopped fantasising and gibbering long enough to put their addled brain-cells into gear, the so-called “Christian Zionists” might — from their own holy-crap book of myth — realise that they themselves are effectively Satanists.
But isn’t that the very thing to which they *claim* to be opposed?

Thanks, Peter, but what I should just have said instead of profit was my first term, ‘advantage’. Or perhaps ‘leverage’ – a wise Derf back in the day told me it was all about leverage — I copied down what he said when firedoglake was in full flow. Without researching that, ‘profit’ is too narrow – think tanks are about more than that. It is all about power and the way to keep it. Archimedes is famous for saying give me a fixed point and I can move the world. That sort of thing.

Probably Jordan. With no oil installations to speak of and a king totally beholden to the US/Israel, Jordan will continue to not be neutral in this, despite their FM clearing his throat at the recent UN Annual GA.

I had not heard that term before so I had to look it up, but yes, that would be the same thing I am talking about.

Cynic | Oct 6 2024 16:21 utc | 502
I would say Zionists, not Jews the symbol on the flag of “Israel” is the Star of Remphan. If their actions did not show it 100%, just their symbol lets you know they are a death cult, and not Judaism/Christian related in the least, but as being the antithesis.
