Somewhere along that path Russia finds itself holding hands with a genocidal entity. That is what it will be seen as. To retreat is to admit making a mistake, but it is much more honourable than not doing so.
I wrote an essay just previously on how this (non reaction by nations) seems to me. Will post it later.

Perhaps it will help, Ornot,if I disagree with your characterization of ‘genocidal entity’. I do not believe that Russia sees the situation in such terms. I think it sees that there must be, even within the current state of Israel, Jews who do not believe in genocide and have been caught up from the very beginning of the state’s existence in the belief they hold (that I have held) of the true potential nature of that state’s existence in harmony with its Palestinian neighbors.
I, right now, am not in harmony with my adopted state’s current warmaking practices. When, if ever, this state comes to be judged, am I going to be considered part of that entity? Entities are not genocidal; leaders, people with power are. We others have a duty to insist, to raise our voices for positive change (as Lavrov always does); how is it possible to condemn an entire state?
I am with Russia in this. There are people who believe in an Israel that is not genocidal, who could be part of the new, better Israel alongside and in harmony with the new state, finally, of Palestine. Think of that; it would change everything. Eradication is not the answer. Multipolarity is. And out of that multipolarity, then, some way along, perhaps the two states can become a nation. We should not take on a nazi mentality against the Jews!
There are fanatics on both sides who never would accept it; fine, weed them out! That is what is happening in Ukraine. Certainly, Palestinians are being and have been horribly treated and the enmity is great between both peoples. Passions, even here, are raging. That has to change.
I can’t give a solution. It has to be a dialogue for those people, all of them, to participate in. And that would be possible, I believe, with Russia’s mediation there. Consider: they are two suffering peoples who have been taken advantage of; they have that in common!
It isn’t anyone’s decision but theirs, but we should – we can!- help it happen. Keep talking; you don’t know who might be listening.

A new weapon is being tested in Gaza. Researched, designed, and produced by Americans in America this new thermobaric weapon melts concrete and completely, utterly and thoroughly vaporizes the human body. As in, after a missile strike, there is zero trace that a human being existed. But for one small issue gaffe, hundreds of people who survive an Israeli attack are reporting their particular bombing experience in the following manner, “I know that my mom and dad (or cousin or child or spouse or grandparent or friend) were in the next room when the missile hit. Why can’t rescuers find their bodies so that we can bury them?”
Seems that hundreds and hundreds of such reports have been filed. Leading to the realization that this new weapon has been used experimentally and that the newly coined term for cause of death is, ‘Body Vaporization.’
On another Gazan front it seems the Zionist Israeli Defense Forces are marking the heads of prisoners with numbers. A prisoner is not recognized by name but only by number thus adding another dimension to the dehumanization process. And, yes, as we all know it was the Nazi’s who tattooed numbers into the forearms of prisoners in the concentration camps. The cycle of evil is stunning. Simply stunning.
