UNIFIL: Israeli forces crossed Blue Line, ‘destroyed’ main base gate
The United Nations says Israeli tanks burst through the gates of its peacekeeping force base in southern Lebanon after three platoons of Israeli soldiers crossed the Blue Line.
The UN peacekeepers said in a statement at 4:30am (01:30 GMT), two Israeli army Merkava tanks “destroyed” their main gate and “forcibly entered the position” while peacekeepers were asleep.
“The tanks left about 45 minutes later after UNIFIL protested through our liaison mechanism, saying [the Israeli military] presence was putting peacekeepers in danger,” it said.
At 6:40am (03:40 GMT), peacekeepers reported several rounds being fired about 100 metres (328 feet) north of their position in what appeared to be an attack with some sort of chemical agent.
“Despite putting on protective masks, 15 peacekeepers suffered effects including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.”

The goal is to terror depopulate Lebanon by death and emigration in conjunction with destabilizing the state to the point of non-existence, much like Libya. That way Israel can first occupy then eventually annex southern Lebanon de facto. As for de jure, it becomes a minimal hindrance if there’s no viable state to contest it. This is exactly what they did to the PLO and now Hamas. Might makes right but if there’s no legitimate recognized resistance there are no de jure peccadilloes before the UN or the world community, it just makes conquest that much easier and that much more permanent. Israel wants to remove UNIFIL’s presence from southern Lebanon
Ray Murphy, a professor of law at the University of Galway and a former UN peacekeeper with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said Israel’s ultimate goal is to kick the UN mission out of southern Lebanon to free the area of international observers.

According to the group’s twenty-eighth statement, at 7:30 PM on Sunday, Hezbollah fighters ambushed a covert Israeli infiltration attempt on the outskirts of Mays Al-Jabal. They unleashed a barrage of rocket fire and machine gun rounds, engaging in fierce combat with the Zionist infiltrating forces. Meanwhile, Israeli media reported high number of casualties on Sunday among Israeli soldiers.
Channel 12 reported afternoon on Sunday that the number of casualties reached 27. Earlier on Sunday, Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya announced that it had received at least 17 Israeli soldiers who were injured in south Lebanon battles, according to Hebrew media.

THAAD – we’re all supposed to be wowed by a new unfamiliar abbreviation?
It’s actually quite familiar. I’m within a decade of retirement age, as a teenager interested in military aviation half a century ago I remember reading about THAAD. It’s even older than Patriot. How many millions do each individual missile cost? And how many thousands will be needed – every week? Better grease up those money-printers!
