The International Court of Justice issued an Advisory Opinion in July. The key points:
1) The Likud Gov’t runs an Apartheid State as per the legal definition of Apartheid
2) All territories occupied since “pre-1949” must be evactuated ASAP
3) Israelis must pay reparations for damages caused since 1948
Since this was an Advisory Opinion, the question of enforcement gets sent to the UNSC/UNGA whose sessions starts this Monday. The ICJ AO and enforcement is guaranteed to be a hot topic.
My guess is there will be a push in the UNGA to declare parts of the IDF and parts of the Likud Gov’t as well as various Settler organizationsas Joint Criminal Enterprises.
The Apartheid designation and the appropriate response will also be a hot topic. The International Conventions banning contact etc. with Apartheid Regimes are strict and unambiguous.

Interestingly, this would bring NATO’s number two largest miliary into an indirect alliance with Iran. But improvement of Turkish ties with the Syrian state also has a lot to do with squeezing out the Kurds in northern Syria. Both Ankara and Damascus have long wanted to see US troops, who are supporting local Kurdish militias, kicked out of the region.

UNGA prediction ?
malenkov is correct , the pro-genociders will be ruthless in trying to stop any censure.
Therefore, it’s my guess that after failing to pass the UNGA we’ll see a scattershot series of individual anti-genocide states applying the Apartheid and Genocide conventions.
One item of note, even the German Foreign Ministry is starting to waver on its pro-genocide policies. The West Bank atrocities are catalysts for changes in policies.

Your quotation of the wiki on Talaat Pasha. It looks to me heavily spun to suit the narrative of the Armenian Genocide. The Young Turks were not particularly anti-Christian, as the narrative requires. They were Turkish nationalists, of the kind which was transmitted from 19th century Europe into the early 20th century Middle East. The Armenian problem was that they rebelled against the Ottoman empire in 1915, thinking that the Russians would come and take over their territory. Only the Russians were stopped and didn’t. Leaving the Armenians in Turkey open to reprisal. The Turks are not delicate, and that’s what happened. The genocide was really a violent suppression of a revolt, with export of the population so they couldn’t cause trouble again.

I think after 75 years of being killed, imprisoned, harassed, and forced out of the country where they lived for 3000 continuous years, by a group that had left the place 2000 years ago and suddenly were given the “right to return to their homeland” by the newly-formed UN in 1947, the Palestinians (whether they belong to Hamas or not) have the right to resist and fight back.
If we want to use some examples of legal armed resistance, how about the United States itself? Here is how the US felt about the right to sever ties with a despotic, colonizing power in 1776, and we still hold this up as the virtuous exercising of the inherent rights of all humans. It is hard to make out what is going on at the moment. The occupation have been stepping up raids outside of Gaza this last week – on West Bank, Lebanon and now Syria also.
Suhaib Al-Masalma reports the occupation press more than anything, so that we get a view of what ideas are circulating there, but it is taken for granted that we know some of that will be propaganda by the occupation. It is a question of keeping different sources covered so that others are able to get a sense of some kind as to what is going on, even if only of how the occupation collective is being rounded up or prepared.
Syria has been quiet in reply regarding previous strikes of which there have been a few, but as mentioned targeting in Lebanon and now Syria is increasing. It is not possible to say what the reaction will be, if there will be one or if as part of a wider retaliation eventually.

Killing at least 17,000 armed combatants while suffering less than 350 IDF fatalities in combat post-October 7. The Gaza Strip is a turkey shoot at this point with dozens of additional armed militants added to the pile every day. The IDF now controls one third of all of the territory of Gaza including all of its land borders and crossing points with Egypt. Hamas is choked off from resupply, that’s the sad reality. Its days are numbered.

Way in the back of my mind I sometimes fear that Israel is working hard to appear weak while it is, because of US backing, very strong. Something about those demonstrations in Tel Aviv doesn’t seem sincere. Little property damage and few people hurt. And those retired Israeli generals, Brik and Barak, claiming Israel is on the brink of collapse, maybe it’s all just propaganda.

Like they say, a lot of people don’t connect the dots. In europe there is more awareness, but those that are most active are to the right and their reply of nationalism is morphed into EU nationalism (border control, defense etc.). In short the view is more “what is done is done”, so the confusion of a conflict is now about oppressive authority, corruption and unaccountability, being played out as an EU theme and not a national theme opposing EU influence.
You only have to look at how all countries in europe turned on a dime on Assad to understand what people in europe are up against.

Not sure if I’ve brought this up here before, but I think it’s really worth comparing the US’s reaction to Libya during the “Arab Spring” to its reaction to the IDF’s terror bombing campaign. A no fly zone was immediately imposed on Libya when Gaddafi sent in the tanks to put down the revolt in Benghazi (which was led by Jihadists and had already caused casualties against the regime). Where’s the no fly zone over Gaza, where the Israeli air force is killing scores of unarmed civilians every day? Where’s the “pro-democracy” operation in a country where the Arab vote is legally suppressed and the state takes on an ethnonationalist character?

We can’t imagine a world of slaves because we have cars and washing machines that do the hard work for us. Nor can we imagine a genocide or a Labour or Democrat government that approves of a genocide and provides spy facilities or bombs to do it.
So now we know what it was like to live at a time when slavery was common, the bestiality of slave ownership was well-known, but nobody felt empowered enough to stop their lawmakers from allowing it.

I live in a South Asian community that hates English people to the extent that I no longer feel safe from racism in my local mosque and no longer feel safe from racism when I work for South Asian clients.
It’s an ill wind that blows no good.
Several generations ago some English people did bad things to South Asian people, and the English people also used some South Asian people to do bad things to other South Asian people.
I was not there, nor my father, grandfather etc, but definitely , like us today my ancestors knew what was going on in South Asia, like we know what is going on in Palestine.
This South Asian community’s unjustified racism against all white people will cancel all their good deeds. The bad men and women who did bad things to South Asians are long in their graves waiting for Allah’s punishment. Nothing to do with me now. Change your racism please .
Or, drop your lives and go to jihad against Israel if you think I am guilty of something somebody else once did. Somebody some day will hate you because you didn’t

I don’t think a full scale war between Iran and Israhell implies mutually assured destruction.
Iran will certainly be harmed from a conflict with the USA (not Israel as it doesn’t have the means) but it will not be destroyed.
In an existential war between the two Israel has little chance of prevailing and a high chance of being utterly destroyed.

i.e The destruction will not be “mutual”.

You seem to have on the ground strategic insight from an Israel perspective. There are a number of Empire’s that survived by hard power alone, the Khans, the Romans, but the average Israeli citizen did not grow up on a horse, or marching in a legion, they are investment bankers, doctors, attorneys, members of the bourgeoise. The conscript IDF seems unimpressive. Israel is now in a position, in which they are hated by the entire word, with the exception of the elites. The western wonder weapons in Ukraine, havent proven to all that great and eventually, the technology will migrate from Russia and China, to the billions that hate Israel. I cant see this as sustainable for Israel in the long run.
