“- An ounce of garlic: 200 shekels ($54)
– An ounce of onions: 150 shekels ($40)
– An ounce of peppers: 100 shekels ($30)
– An ounce of tomatoes: 150 shekels ($40)
– 750 grams of tahini: 85 shekels ($22)
And so you ask to turn the canned fish into a plate of fish cooked with tahini that tastes acceptable for $150
Money is worthless in the north, the average monthly salary is not enough to prepare three dishes of the lowest types of food, vegetables are more expensive than gold, the vendors who display samples of the above types weigh their vegetables on gold scales, and vegetables are bought with a clove of garlic, a horn of pepper, and an onion, and the last one I bought today for 40 shekels! One onion for $12!”

The “zio-Regime” in Israel will not go down by itself imo.
Not without bringing down the “zio-Regime” that is known as the rising ‘Rules Based Order.’ Israel Gov is just one of its it’s faces.
You know, that corporate conglomerate of countries, Nato aligned, neoliberal shit holes that have monopoly control of everything their citizens need to survive.
You know, killing for profit is ok and all of that.
You know, the arrogant suits that have been under-mining the international peace achieved after wwii and who have been sabotaging the UN since its inception.
Hamas, Houthi, Yemeni, i have no idea who they are but their enemy is the enemy of humanity.
They are showing the way over the blood of fifty thousand plus civilian deaths.
Don’t play their game. Don’t allow yourself to be their conduit no matter what.
Dig down, get under the empire narratives that would divide us.
Find common ground.

the Brits never were very good at logic, sound reasoning, or
compliance with humanitarian and international laws such as the Geneva Conventions and numerous UNGA and UNSC resolutions etc that israel steadfastly ignored over the past 5-6 decades

So in suspending ‘some’ arms exports to Israel, the British Government acknowledges that Israel is in breach of international law and Britain is therefore complicit. And yet…it continues 90% of arms exports regardless. Make that make sense.

The Israeli occupation has been accused numerous times of using weapons in ways that violate international humanitarian law in Gaza.
……A July YouGov poll found that 58% of Brits are in favor of stopping military supplies to “Israel” during the war on Gaza, with only 18% against. Even more people (78%) are in favor of an immediate ceasefire.

So the British government has been warned that Israel is committing war crimes using British arms components.
Nonetheless, it has decided to carry on with the sale of 92% of its arms contracts with Israel.
That’s an admission of complicity in genocide right there – in addition to all the other, overwhelming evidence.
The UK is under a legal obligation not to facilitate war crimes.

I think the UN is broken and should be abandoned in favour of decentralized multilateral relations between sovereign civilization States. Its ongoing presence gives everyone an expectation of Law and Order in international affairs that, because too many powerful members act selfishly and not in accord with the letter or spirit of the founding charters, simply no longer exists.

US Marines attacked by mob in Türkiye (VIDEO)
“The group behind the incident said American troops have “Palestinian blood” on their hands”
A video of the altercation shows a group of men holding down a plain-clothed Marine, with one of the assailants putting a white sack over his head. The mob reportedly yelled “Yankee, go home!” when attacking the servicemen.
According to the Izmir governor’s office, security forces “quickly intervened in the incident,” detaining 15 suspects.
“The two Marines were aided by other Marines in the area and were subsequently taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution but were not injured and have returned to the USS Wasp,” said Commander Timothy Gorman, a spokesman for US Naval Forces Europe-Africa. “
Maybe getting g picture to stay in ships… maybe should sail to friendlier waters, maybe should stop making war everywhere

I am reporting on two Turkey postings showing movement of Turkey away from empire
From The Cradle
Turkiye requests BRICS membership: Report
the quote

Turkiye has formally requested to join the BRICS group of emerging economies, Bloomberg cited informed sources as saying on 2 September.
Ankara “seeks to bolster its global influence and forge new ties beyond its traditional Western allies,” the sources said. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes “that the geopolitical center of gravity is shifting away from developed economies” and that the push to join BRICS “reflects its aspirations to cultivate ties with all sides in a multipolar world, while still fulfilling its obligations as a key member of NATO.”
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in early June that BRICS serves as a good alternative to the EU. Later that month, he confirmed that dialogue between Ankara and BRICS nations was ongoing – coming as Turkish frustration continued to grow due to stalled efforts to join the EU.

And related there is this posting title at ZH
Watch: US Soldiers Assaulted By Turkish Mob After Navy Ship Makes Port Call At Izmir
the quote

On Monday a mob of Turkish men attacked American soldiers who had been walking the streets of Izmir in southern Turkey, apparently as the US personnel were on liberty after the USS Wasp which they are attached to made port call.
Social media video shows a group of men surrounding one US soldier and while violently constraining him. The Turkish men then stick a white bag over his head in an effort to humiliate and possibly kidnap the American and those with him. The brief clip then shows a couple more US troops jumping in to push the Turkish men off their fellow soldier.

The assaulting group reportedly chanted “Yankee, go home!” while detaining at least one of the Americans. It all happened in broad daylight.

Turkish journalist and regional correspondent Ragıp Soylu described that it was “A payback in their understanding for US soldiers placing sacks over Turkish soldiers operating in Northern Iraq almost 20 years ago.

Erdogan has been quite negative towards occupied Palestine and I expect this shift in balance of geopolitical nations to instantiate significant movement in what I call our civilization war.
Is Erdogan going to be assassinated now?….will they try again maybe should be my question?

ZH has aposting up with the title
Oil Tanker & Merchant Ship Hit By Projectiles As Another Tanker Burns, Risking ‘Worst Spill This Century’
the quote

As the Greek-flagged oil tanker MV Sounion burns in the southern Red Sea, Iran-backed Houthi militants targeted two ships with missiles and drones in the critical maritime chokepoint on Monday.
Reuters reports projectiles hit a Panama-flagged oil tanker and a merchant vessel. Security firm Ambrey confirmed the oil tanker was hit by two missiles, with sources indicating the tanker is named “Blue Lagoon I.”

The article goes on to sell oil spill fear including an ErikDPrince X message

Where is the rightful outrage from environmentalists? Thousands of tons of crude oil will now pour into the Red Sea.
This is a clear sign of the collapse of American credibility and deterrence. Letting the Iranian proxy Houthis shut off a major maritime seaway is an epic fail. America can and must do better!
Leadership matters.

Notice the total lack of perspective about why this is happening at all.

It’s a good question. I don’t think the outcome would be in West favor at this time frankly. A regime change notion could head to an outcome very bad for West at this time. Turkey could end up with a volatile West hating public sentiments that could upend all West has plugged in there.
I see no solid evidence at all that Erdogan threatens the West, or isn’t wholly desirous of becoming an EU member still. Turkey, or rather Erdogan continues to play the dbl game. And for now, I doubt that it would be in West interest to yank his chain too much. just my opinion. But of late, the wWest is crazier than usual, so who knows?

The widespread devastation and massacres of the Israeli army in #Jenin and other parts of occupied northern West Bank, where Hamas is not ruling, are a powerful reminder that Hamas is just the last excuse for the State of #Israel to wreak the Palestinian territory havoc.

The Yemeni armed forces carried out a specific military operation targeting the ship (BLUE LAGOON I) in the Red Sea, with a number of appropriate missiles and drones, and it was directly hit.
The ship was targeted owing to violation of ban decision of access to the ports of occupied Palestine by the company that owns the ship.
The operation was jointly carried out by the missile, UAV, and the naval forces.
The Yemeni Armed Forces renew their warnings to all companies dealing with the Israeli enemy that their ships will be targeted while sailing through the declared area of the naval operations, regardless of their destination.

No similar statements have ever been made by any of these officials about the far, far greater number of innocent Palestinians who have been killed in Gaza by the state of Israel with their assistance. No similar expressions of condolence have ever been uttered by these leaders for the millions of Palestinians who’ve had their lives completely ruined by Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank over the last eleven months, or for the untold thousands of parents who’ve had to bury children who were exterminated in Israel’s genocidal onslaught…..

To give you guys an update concerning my comment #78 which initially was comment #77 …
Today my site is reachable again. But the website of my hosting provider is still interrupted as I write this message.
I’ve created an account at archive.org and saved my articles there. It’s good to have a backup like this, for those who may want to look up my articles in the future. You can look them up there under the domain name prophet.am
The explanations that I publish in my articles are quickly picked up by governments and their agencies, and the propaganda-machine; they get the information almost immediately, and they analyze it for their decision making. But I do not publish just for them, who do whatever they want anyway. I’d like ordinary people to pick up the information also, for their eyes to be opened so they can see.
There was certainly no panic on my side concerning this, since previously someone replied to my comment with the remark: relax, as if I was in panic because of this; surely not.
But if you only knew what’s going on around me, you would be hard-pressed to relax.
Sincerely,
George

Yes, it is short but “illuminating”. The IDF present themselves as the rescuers of Gazans.
I found it a spooky video. The brainwashing the video attempts is chilling.
I am reminded of the trial of Rudolf Kastner whose gang of Zionist collaborated with the Nazis
and in full knowledge tricked hundreds of thousands of Jews onto the trains to Auschwitz.
A few years later, in an Israeli court, the Attorney General of Israel defended the collaboration
of Kastner and his gang of traitors, who were promised the rescue of a few chosen Jews for emigration
to Palestine. The judge asked (roughly, from memory) “are we to believe that the destroyers of Jews, the Nazis,
were now their rescuers?”.

This is apropos.
The State Comptroller of Israel, Englman, has been conducting an investigation into the “multi-level failures”
of October 7th.
Today, Englman gave a speech.

State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman excoriated the country’s political and military leaders in a speech on Tuesday, accusing them of impeding inquiries into Hamas’s October 7 massacre

Englman on Tuesday criticized the defense establishment for trying to stop his review of the IDF’s actions before October 7, saying it has “built high and impassable walls which have led to the stymying of the review,”

https://www.timesofisrael.com/comptroller-blasts-political-idf-chiefs-for-failing-to-bear-responsibility-for-oct-7/?utm_source=article_hpsidebar&utm_medium=desktop_site&utm_campaign=reports-senior-idf-officer-dismissed-pre-oct-7-intel-on-hamas-invasion-as-fantasy
It is happening in Israel; and Hasbara, and deep cover Elite hasbara, are seen even here at MoA trying to stymy
investigation into the cause of October 7th.

Posted by: librul | Sep 3 2024 14:55 utc | 141

Everything published and broadcast in Israel has to pass through military censors,
so it is surprising how much one can actually cull.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/reports-senior-idf-officer-dismissed-pre-oct-7-intel-on-hamas-invasion-as-fantasy/

Separately, Kan reported that before October 7, the IDF had come into possession of a Hamas terror manual that described how to conquer the Gaza border region in southern Israel.
The manual described taking over IDF positions, capturing kibbutzim and towns in the region, killing and kidnapping residents, and attacking and conquering the three regional cities of Sderot, Ofakim and Netivot.
It described how pick-up trucks would be used to stage the invasion, along with motorbikes and hang-gliders as well as with the use of anti-tank missiles under the cover of rocket and mortar fire from Gaza — in the same way that events unfolded on October 7.
The manual also described a strategy to lull Israel into complacency by holding negotiations for some form of long-term arrangement with Hamas, while at the same time staging frequent drills and carrying out small security incidents on the border on Saturdays and Jewish holidays to lull the IDF into a false sense of security when Hamas forces turned up en masse at the border fence.
The plan was drilled with two companies of Hamas’s elite Nukhba force, which was responsible for the October 7 attacks, and included conquering an imitation kibbutz.

There is much to be learned in just this short section from The Times of Israel.
I will highlight just three items.
Israel was in possession of Hamas’ detailed and accurate plan months in advance.
The plan destroys Israel’s claim that Hamas had tricked Israel into complacency.
Hamas had said it in writing in the plan that they would try to create Israeli complacency
and the plan said how they would do it.
The plan also said they would attack on a Sabbath or Jewish Holiday. October 7th was both.

I will also note.
The IDF depleted their forces near Gaza, allowing half their forces to take leave for the
holiday of October 7th. Israel knew! They should have done the opposite on the Sabbath
and Jewish Holidays and located extra reserves closer to Gaza. Of course!
I’ll add that the Hamas plan specifically named the Re’im military base as a target.
On October 5th Israel relocated the infamous Rave Party to a site on Rt 232 between
Gaza and the Re’im military base. This was done over the objection of the officer in
charge of approving/disapproving events like the Rave Party, “an unnecessary security
risk”. In an unusual move, IDF headquarters had interjected themselves into the decision making process.
On the same day, October 5th, the decision was made to move 100 commandos away from the Gaza area to the West Bank.
[There is so much more to be said about the Rave Party.]
In the days before October 7th, Israel had created a major provocation and been invading the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Trace the entire sequence of Israeli actions near the Gaza perimeter back five years.
You will see an ebb and flow in the pattern of security lapses.
You could build an equivalent theory at each ebb of a planned LIHOP/MIHOP event.
Therefore, what’s truly unique about the lead up to 7 October?

There are more to this Swedish History
Jakob Fugger “the Rich” was elevated to the nobility of the Holy Roman Empire in May 1511 and assumed the title Imperial Count of Kirchberg and Weissenhorn in 1514. Today, he is considered to be one of the wealthiest people ever to have lived, with a GDP-adjusted net worth of over $400 billion, and approximately 2% of the entire GDP of Europe at the time.
In 1525, the Fuggers were granted the revenues from the Spanish orders of knighthood together with the profits from mercury and silver mines.[13] The formerly rich yield of the Tirolean and Hungarian mines decreased, but Anton established new trade ties with Peru and Chile and started mining ventures in Sweden and Norway. He was involved in the slave trade from Africa to America, but was more successful in the spice trade and the importation of Hungarian cattle. Eventually, he was forced to renounce the Maestrazgo lease after 1542 and to give up the silver mines of Guadalcanal.
The Fugger family financed the Swedish attack on Poltava and took over the Swedish Kingdom

ZH has a posting up with the title
Turkish Protesters Swarm Izmir Port Until US Warship Leaves Following Assault On Americans
the quote

Major Lebanese news outlet Almayadeen is reporting that Turkish citizens in Izmir plan to keep protesting against the American military until the US Navy warship USS Wasp departs Izmir’s port.
The USS Wasp is in regional waters to as part of efforts to “deter potential threats to Israel” amid the Gaza war, and as the potential for escalation with Hezbollah and Iran looms. “Protesters have issued a firm warning to the Izmir Governorship, stating they will remain at the port until the ship departs,” Almayadeen writes. “They also condemned the United States for its role in causing suffering and violence in Iraq, Syria, and the broader West Asia region.”

It is not clear from the posting that the ship has left the dock yet but the protest seem to be growing.
It is good to see more of the thousand cuts necessary to bring the God Of Mammon bully cult down.

1). Major Trump supporter is really pushing to get what she is paying for:
https://thecradle.co/articles/trump-advisor-pushes-to-divert-palestine-aid-funds-for-israeli-annexation-of-west-bank
2) The UK sends goon squad to ransack Sarah Wilkinson’s house and arrest her. She is a Pro-Palestinian journalist who also helps to run a water resource group for those in Gaza. Some unit of the UK police (they did not identify themselves or give her a copy of the search warrant) totally tore up her house, took her passport and stole her cash (they immediately denied knowing anything about these items), then denied her her medication. She is now out on bail, which is actually pretty much the same as prison since she is not allowed to use any electronic devices including any sort of telephone or the TV, and she is aware that they bugged her home, since they dug small holes in multiple walls and left wet putty over the holes just to make it obvious. Oh, and they took the urn with her mother’s ashes and strew the ashes all over the attic.
She is being charged under the UK’s new terrorism laws for “inciting” for a “terrorist group”; i.e., the Palestinian resistance groups. What she actually does is simply report the news stories coming out of Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. That seems to trigger some people.
She was able to do a 45-minute interview by having someone else come to her house, turn on their computer and press the keyboard in her stead after somebody made arrangements (god only knows how they managed that – maybe talked to her son?). Anyway, her story is only 45 minutes long and I think it is well worth watching. This is what the “democratic West” has become, and this wonderful 61-year-old woman is being treated like a fucking criminal for simply compiling news stories from other journalists on her social media and for trying to help the Palestinians secure some fresh water. Speaking of which – they tried to get her to name her contacts in Gaza (Palestinian civilians who are being helped by her water group) and she refused to answer. She stayed steadfast, as they say.
In my book, she’s a hero.

The United States has brought criminal charges against the top leaders of Hamas, including chief Yahya Sinwar. The charges accuse these leaders of orchestrating efforts to kill civilians and eradicate the state of Israel, supported by weapons and funding from Iran and Hizballah.”

Gotta admire the moxie involved in charging a foreign entity (which is legally allowed to offer armed resistance to occupation) under some (unnamed) US law for actions taken inside their own country against a different country (which is NOT the US) that is (illegally) occupying, starving, and genociding them.

Netanyahu’s father was a professor of Zionism and Netayahu is a graduate of what is now called politics, ‘getting things done’ by lies, extremr violence and more lies.
He has a unique set of philosophical ambiguities, like all successful populist politicians like Boris Johnson who appealed to British Nationalism while completely
despising the British as a US citizen.
Netanyahu is a populist who knows how to work the Israelis, while simultaneously despising every aspect of Judaism, which will also be his downfall.

Moxie, or Mixie? The US seems confused about who they’re fighting here. The US doesn’t need Israel because the Pacific is their back yard.
It’s the British who need to control Palestine to avoid sailing round Africa. And the British have lost the plot when it comes to Ruling the Waves. The overland Silk Road totally replaces the importance of the Sea.
When you don’t actually need something yourself, but you are interfering for a third party, Israel , you can afford to be a bit brash. Your Moxie loses face , who cares?
The only people who want to kill the Palestinians are the criminal , European , fake Nazi , fake Jew , Khazars, in other words the Ukrainian, US, Neocons.
What do US and UK get in return for supporting the Khazar Genocide of Palestinians? Probably only financial solvency, for which they are prepared to sacrifice their entire reputation in the world.
Wouldn’t it be better for US and UK to get China to solve their insolvency and keep their good reputation built up over the last 80 years than to back the utterly evil Khazars?
Mixed up or what? Why do they let Israel squeeze them by the balls and take responsibility for the Israeli genocide?
Why not just tell Israel that the Kompromat works both ways; we don’t care; It’s a big wide world out there;
we don’t need you; and if Israel wants to kill Palestinians, its on their own shoulders ; Fuck off ; See you in court. ???

What’s the point of retaining a UN diplomat on the payroll who, visiting Gaza for the first time in months, cannot muster the courage to even mention Israel by name and amidst more than 40,000 killings condemns only the killings of six Israelis. This goes beyond moral and political cowardice. It is shameful, shameless complicity.
…He condemns “the civilian death toll”. It’s like condemning traffic after a dozen kids are wiped out by a drunk driver.
…There is a fundamental difference between condemning a “death toll” and condemning the killing of civilians. He couldn’t even bring himself to state they were killed
…It’s known as “the passive exonerative”.

New on Veterans Today: Lead article by Senior Editor Jonas Alexis revealed that in the huge strike which Hezbollah did recently; the crowning glory and underlying intent was to send six drones into the Unit 8200 Izzy intel site.
They are now claiming that their assault targeted and wiped out the head of that secretive unit as well as his second in command. Only probable proof is that neither of those guys have appeared in public lately and that the Izzys have imposed a strict restriction on any information release on the subject.
If indeed, Jonas’ information is correct, the carefully prepared strike hit the duo after arranging incidents which virtually assured they would be at their desks in the H.Q.
Though the Iranians are still making the Izzies sweat on their gripe with the assassination of their guest peace-negotiator from Hamas…it may well be that Hezbollah has beaten them to the punch over the Izzy takedown of one of their top operatives in the recent past.

‘Our Right to Live’ – Ben-Gvir Calls for Restriction of Palestinian Movement, Death Penalty for Detainees
…..The UN Human Rights Office has condemned the use of “unlawful force” in the West Bank and called on Tel Aviv to halt immediately its offensive in the Jenin camp.
“The use of military weapons and tactics during law enforcement give rise to grave concerns of a systematic disregard for the rights of the Palestinian population and contribute to an escalation in violence and insecurity,” the Office said in a statement on Sunday. “The only way to ensure security for Palestinians and Israelis is to end the occupation.”
The UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, on Friday also slammed Israel for claiming self-defense to justify its military offensive in the occupied territory.
“Israel claims that what it is doing in the West Bank is justified under the law of self-defense. This claim has no validity,” Albanese said on X.
Albanese pointed out that “Twenty years ago the @CIJ_ICJ determined that Israel could not invoke self-defense under article 51 of the UN Charter to justify its Wall in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).”
This past July, she stressed, the Court “indicated that Israel’s very presence in the oPT is itself unlawful.”
Albanese argued that “as an ongoing unlawful use of force,” Israel’s occupation of the oPT cannot be justified by any claim of self-defense.
“Israel’s perversion of the law on self-defense must be recognized for what it is: a brazen attempt to provide an imprimatur of ‘legality’ to the maintenance of its unlawful aggression against the territorial integrity and political independence of the State of Palestine.”
On July 19, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and mandated the dismantling of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Exile 162
Half truth is worthless, because it leaves a niggling sense of doubt about what really happened.
We have lived through The Syrian War in which Russia destroyed Hillary Clinton’s concrete underground bunkers to house Al Qaida in what Lawd Cameron portrayed as a spontaneous Civil War.
We have lived through so many false flags and now we are being asked to turn a blind eye to expensive cars showing up in Gaza, loaded with cash. MUSLIM CASH, leading to an Israeli Genocide. The stench of Qiyanat, Arabic word for Betrayal, is overwhelming.
It takes two to tango. Yes, everybody knows about Israel ‘s Hannibal massacre, but who is talking about the collaboration between Israel and Arab countries in the 12 month planning of this genocide?
Who is talking about Muslim oil being squandered on Football Stadiums and Race tracks for cars and horses, about Normalisation between Israel, the Apartheid State and Arab, Slave States. What is normal about that?
The Palestinians support Hamas because there is nothing normal about Arab attitudes to wealth. About Arabs housing USUKIS Fleets of ships and planes belonging to their declared enemy.
To put it bluntly, a child of three could understand the stupidity of Arabs helping their Jewish enemies without demanding a fair settlement for Palestine. A child of three could understand that feeding reconstituted animal offal to vegetarian animals might harm them.
So why has Arab Politics failed to understand what is obvious to a child of three?
Obviously, the Arabs need to redeem themselves spiritually for disobeying the clear Commands of their Arabic Scriptures not to help their enemies. NOT JUST WHISTLE IN THE WIND while six million Palestinians are Genocided as if it’s not
their responsibility that USUKIS has a military supply chain in the vicinity, in Egypt, in Jordan, in Qatar, in Turkey, in Libya etc which prevents military intervention in Palestine.
Yes I know Turkey isn’t an Arab country, but Muslim Brotherhood that runs Turkey is an Arab denomination of Islam.

Arab money should openly fund the rescue of Palestine from USUKIS Crusaders. That is well-known Muslim policy. Nobody in the West can object to Sunni Muslim countries funding Sunni Muslim Resistance to save the Sunni Palestinians while at the same time Jews and Christians fund the genocide.
Give us Sunni Muslims the means to do it and we will do it. Fuck the Crusaders and their murderous tyranny.

Mark Perlmutter is an orthopedic and hand surgeon who practices in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Feroze Sidhwa is a trauma and critical care surgeon who practices in Northern California.
GAZA — In the United States we would never dream of operating on anyone without consent, let alone a malnourished and barely conscious 9-year-old girl in septic shock. Nevertheless, when we saw Juri, that’s exactly what we did.
We have no idea how Juri ended up in the Gaza European Hospital preoperative area. All we could see was that she had an external fixator — a scaffold of metal pins and rods — on her left leg and necrotic skin on her face and arms from the explosion that tore her little body to shreds. Just touching her blankets elicited shrieks of pain and terror. She was slowly dying, so we decided to take the risk of anesthetizing her without knowing exactly what we would find.
In the operating room, we examined Juri from head to toe. This beautiful, meek little girl was missing two inches of her left femur along with most of the muscle and skin on the back of her thigh. Both of her buttocks were flayed open, cutting so deeply through flesh that the lowest bones in her pelvis were exposed. As we swept our hands through this topography of cruelty, maggots fell in clumps onto the operating room table.
“Jesus Christ,” Feroze muttered as we washed the larvae into a bucket, “she’s just a fucking kid.”
A composite shows Dr. Mark Pearlmutter playing with children in the displaced persons camp around Gaza European Hospital and Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, left, operating.
Right: Dr. Mark Pearlmutter playing with some of the girls in the displaced persons camp around Gaza European Hospital. Left: Feroze Sidhwa, left, operates on a man who was shot. | Feroze Sidhwa, left; Mark Pearlmutter, right
The two of us are humanitarian surgeons. Together, in our combined 57 years of volunteering, we’ve worked on more than 40 surgical missions in developing countries on four continents. We’re used to working in disaster and war zones, of being on intimate terms with death and carnage and despair.
None of that prepared us for what we saw in Gaza this spring.
The constant begging for money, the malnourished population, the open sewage — all of that was familiar to us as veteran war zone doctors. But add in the incredible population density, the overwhelming numbers of badly maimed children and amputees, the constant hum of drones, the smell of explosives and gunpowder — not to mention the constant earth-shaking explosions — and it’s no wonder UNICEF has declared the Gaza Strip as “the world’s most dangerous place to be a child.”
We have always gone where we were most needed. In March, it was obvious that the place was the Gaza Strip.
