The Philippines, the next Ukraine

My latest Substack post.
https://waltking.substack.com/p/the-philippines-the-next-ukraine?r=4auns9

Opening lines:

As the war between Ukraine and Russia — in reality the attempt by US/NATO to destroy Russia — grinds on towards the inevitable demise of Ukraine,  preparations are gaining sway to switch attention from this, the hors d'oeuvre, to the declared main course, which is the destruction of China. And so for another episode of “Let’s you and him fight”, it needs another corrupt, misgoverned loser which nobody gives a damn about, within an arm’s length of its declared enemy, that will do as it’s told to be the sacrificial dummy.

Step forward, the Philippines!

The USA already has many military bases in the region, and we are constantly hearing reports of agreements being signed between the USA and the western-leaning countries in the region: Australia, Japan, South Korea and various Pacific islands, as the process cranks up. The UK of course is getting its hands dirty as usual, in AUKUS. In this article I will focus on the Philippines, but first I want to put it in the context of the USA’s little known overall plan for dragging yet more countries in the region into the fray, which more fully displays the scope of the USA’s determination to encircle China.

Come and join the discussion there!

Walt.....so basically 404: 2.0. Lots of Oligarchs are gonna get rich. I only say that because as with Russian Oligarchs, Ukie Oligarchs, western oligarchs, how commerce out ruled common sense military strategy in 404, lots of critical infrastructure left untouched till the point where the law of unintended consequence goes boom in the night.

Sorry for the divergence. I'm sure you are aware that the Philippines financially is controlled by China, oligarchs again. Telecom, banking, hotels, construction, energy and travel. Most major players are Chinese billionaires. So I see the war dance as some kind of chicken strutting drama. To what end? Who knows.

Pretty weak "coalition" of countries attempting to gang-up on the Giant Panda. Military prowess of the Phils is an ongoing joke. U$$A bases there will be easy targets for hypersonics. Japan is falling so fast demographically (due to the MRNA jabs) that their attentions are mostly directed inwardly. Both the Japanese and the South Koreans are doomed militarily by North Korean weaponry...even including hypersonic nukes...shared by Moscow.

The show of support by these lands is a pitiful demonstration of conglomerated weaknesses. Feeling sorry already for that division or so of American troops who still occupy South Korea as a "tripwire". They are logistically compromised, much like American forces in the Philippines in the early stages of '42. Trapped, and no help in sight.

Correctly speaking, a good number of Philippine riches are Chinese descendants, not Chinese since they are not Chinese citizens. Although a lot of Chinese descendants in Southeast Asia still keep some Chinese traditions and learn Chinese today, they are citizens of the countries where they now live.

I'm sure I'm not the only barfly fond of excellent beer, which is also pricy suds. One of the economic casualties within Europe is the German Brewery Industry where very longstanding brewers are declaring bankruptcy and closing forever. Here's an article listing some of the carnage:

The decline of the traditional German brewing industry shows no signs of slowing down. Recently, several breweries have filed for bankruptcy or closed permanently, resulting in the loss of centuries-old brewing traditions.

The latest victims are the Gambrinus Brewery in Weiden, Upper Palatinate, and the Gesellschaftsbrauerei Viechtach, about 100 km southeast. Both are located in the Bavarian border region with the Czech Republic, an area often described as structurally weak.

The nearly 100-year-old Gambrinus Brewery filed for insolvency on Friday at the Weiden District Court due to unpaid bills and outstanding wages. The brewery's decline is attributed to rising costs, pandemic-related sales losses, and internal issues, with current production at around 15,000 hl, half its peak output.

On Thursday, it was announced that the insolvent Gesellschaftsbrauerei Viechtach would close permanently after nearly 500 years, ceasing production. Despite intensive negotiations, no investors were willing to continue operations. Remaining employees have been let go, and the Viechtacher brand will continue to be produced at the nearby Hofmark Brewery in Loifling, located in the Cham district of the Upper Palatinate.

Last month, the 672-year-old Karmeliter-Bräu from Salz near Bad Neustadt an der Saale (about 75 km northeast of Würzburg) permanently closed its doors. The brand and distribution rights were acquired by Oettinger Brewery, one of Germany's largest brewery groups, mainly active in the entry-level segment (inside.beer, 10.6.2024). It is speculated that the brand, named after a monastic order, will be used to establish the group in the higher-priced segment, similar to other well-known brands like Trappist, Augustiner, Paulaner, Franziskaner, Benediktiner, and Kapuziner.

The problem with the "higher-priced segment" is that its customer base needs a high income to purchase their products. Beer lovers within the Empire well know the differences between the so-called micro-brews and major brands like Coors, Bud and Miller--it's both price and quality. Frankly, once you've tasted good beer, you'll find the mass-produced swill--well, swill. But that means paying 3-5X the price--I remember well when I could barely afford Keystone.

The beer industry's depression is but one sector of the European economy that's dying--VW, Audi, and other auto makers are dying. And the EU can't save them by placing US-level tariffs on Chinese EVs. Clearly, EU policy is destroying national economies; so, we should anticipate nations leaving the economic-death causing EU and NATO so they can formulate their own policies again, which means no longer supporting NATO/Outlaw US Empire Imperialism and related policies. Last I heard from Putin, Russia remains willing to sell gas to Europe through Russia's pipelines.

Yup. One of the main problems for the dumb and gorish Jews in Israel is their dozens thousand internal refugees that escaped from the northern towns afraid of Hezbollah's rockets, leaving those towns deserted. This makes their corrupt leader look weak and dumb. You cann't have a Jew looking weak and dumb according to their torah and their talmud and other bullshit written by "jewish scholars".

Don't know why Dogon Priest@22 wants a properly manly imperialist army. So it would be victorious? Don't know why most women can't be effective soldiers in a mechanized army either. It's not like they have to be able to wear heavy armor and swing heavy swords. Not being a petty bourgeois feminist, I think they can be trained to be killers too. Even those who think women are innately stupider need to demonstrate that soldiers have to be smart, as opposed to disciplined and trained. The real problem I do see for women soldiers is pregnancy, but there's fixes for that too.

[email protected] here's my issue. If it's brewed under licence most times it's crap. Try Dublin brewed Guiness over LaBatts brewed under licence. And the really good beers, especially stouts, they don't travel well. So something made thousands of miles away requires a widget in the can. For beer stout lovers its best to find a local micro brewery(s) and test their products, best to buy local anyway, it's a community thing and helps with the boycott in general. I will though keep an eye out for the Tsingtao, I do enjoy a good beer.

Mexico produces some decent German beer and it's relatively cheap in the US despite AB having control of most of the exports and some of the breweries. Same story- German immigrants in the early 20th century (or sometimes before). The US had the same kind of thing but cutthroat corporatism ruined it pretty quickly as the brands got consolidated or just wiped out.

Agreed, but I would add that women are typically more herd-oriented than men. More susceptible to group-think and peer-enforcement of orthodoxy, and more inclined to be obedient to authority. It's no accident that women with no ideas, let alone ideas of their own, are in 'top' (not counting the powers in the shadows) political/management positions in the EU and many European states. If technology removes their physical limitations, they are probably better Imperial soldiers than men.

Of course, that assumes that their masters don't mind losing a lot of breeders, but it's pretty clear that most western countries are fine with that and would happily replace their native populations with immigrants, who are also generally weak politically and susceptible to manipulation and control. Perhaps the wave of the future will be an American military primarily composed of poor immigrant women.

There’s no doubt times are tough for smaller independent brewers. Quite a few have disappeared in my region over the last couple of years, which is a great shame as I enjoyed their output and leaves most pubs selling an ever-decreasing range of mass-produced corporate slop at ever-increasing prices.

I had a Sleeman's Draft the other day as I was at my buddies' and I didn't wnt to look like prick he doesn't care about the beer, more the volume.

It was awful-I looked on the can for the ingredients and IT LIED" "Contains Barley"

Amidst all this noise, a comment without bitterness and without the intention of a value judgment; I think so... perhaps I am wrong.

The destiny of the human being depends on his thinking, individually and collectively. If what we think, passively or actively, does not take into account the quality of our desires, the consequences of our actions are unknown to us.

Example:

If we are afraid, we flee, fight and/or adapt, depending on our capacity. From fear comes anxiety, from anxiety comes anguish, from vital anguish comes the need to flee, stay and/or fight.

In any case, from the feeling that our ego is threatened, aversion is the unconscious defense mechanism of fear of aggression, real or feigned.

From fear and rejection, aversion and, then, those feelings of hatred that we never want to recognize, but that inhabit and feed on our passive thoughts.

It is we who allow our thoughts to be manipulated by our selfish desires: fear and resentment; jealousy and envy; greed; pride and arrogance.

In order for our destiny to change, we have the opportunity to choose what we think and, above all, what kind of thoughts we reject, actively, because among the millions of states of consciousness, the mental focus on own virtues:

Courage (in the face of fear and cowardice, affirm your willingness to recognize the justice inherent in every human being),

Health (in the face of illness): affirm that you are healthy, strong and honest.

Temperance (in the face of anguish). You are calm, you do not rush into your judgments. You are a patient person who has time to think about his actions. Do not rush to respond to an insult.

Acute perception (do not go so deep inside yourself that you lose your sense of reality). The world is huge if you want to encompass it. Small, if you encompass it.

Perfect memory (in the face of forgetfulness, remember): there is nothing that you will not remember, sooner or later. Trust your clear and transparent mind.

Conscious intelligence: there are no thoughts that generate conflict and bad blood because the purpose is to improve the situation for everyone.

It is much more difficult for us to become aware that we can change the world.

Feel the world, try to change it, if you want, but, seriously, dedicate the energies you have left to being, according to your criteria, a moral being.

All the beer talk makes me want to advance the time on the clock. My A1C says I need to limit my daily intake to two pints--bummer. Plus, my favs are stouts and porters. Tsingtao I drink when I go out to eat Chinese. Beer prices here in Oregon have gone insane to over $10 for a 6-pack of good craft beer, and from my travels, it's not much different elsewhere. As suggested, the only way to beat the price inflation and get the type of beer you enjoy is to brew your own. I'm nearing the point of doing just that.

@karlof1, #20:

Just a minor correction: Germany did not have a concession in Shanghai. They did have medical school in Shanghai though. My mom was a graduate of that school which is now Tongji Univercity.

The German concession is in Shangtun, the city of Tsingtao. There is a mountain nearby call Laoshan, wonderful Spring water! Tsingtao beer was brew from that. Not any more. Laoshan water is too valuable. Now Tsingtao beer is just another mass market brew like the Bud. Too bad!

In Ontario its $21 for a 6 pack of Tyskie.

But that is in Canadian dollars-so $14.95 American

Then American beer is 335ML, the Tyskie is 500 Ml so 67 X $14.95= $10.01 so it is equivalent

But we are not done yet-American beer is 4% alcohol and Tyskie is 5% thus 25% more alcohol, and lets face it that why we buy the damn stuff

Meaning that the comparitve price to Oregon 6 pack - $7.50 in Ontario when looking at the alcohols.

Finally, Tyskie is a much better quality that your generic American beer so until I know the brand its hard to compare.

Check out the women who play in the WNRL in Australia. An army of these amazons would be formidable. The idea that women can't be effective Frontsoldaten is absurd. Even Plato in the Laws contemplated doubling military capacity by arming and training women. The barrier is cultural not physical. A trained individual with an assault rifle is just that, man or woman. I believe the YPG in the Peshmerga are a current good example.

Some more minor corrections.

The brewery Tsingtao was set up by the Germans during their short occupation, in 1903 in Shandong province. The beer is still called Tsingtao but the city in Pinyin while pronounced the same is now spelt Qingdao.

It is one of the top selling beers in China, if a restaurant only offers one beer, nine times out of ten it will be Tsingtao in most places. But the basic bottled beer is very cheap and little more than coloured water, they do make better but hard to find.

If you visit Qingdao you can do the brewery tour.

Women in armed forces. Yes, they can be great pilots, radar and comms specialists, mechanics, logistics support etc. Combat roles?

Do you know the weight of the average Full Battle Order of a infantry rifleman?

Personnel in armoured formation must be capable of carrying out field repairs, specifically replacing tracks. Have you tried lifting just one "shoe", now imagine manhandling a whole track to secure in place. Then there's the ammunition, how heavy is a NATO 120 or 105mm round? Can you lift it above your head and while bend over in confined spaces? Do you know how heavy a .5in barrel for a HMG is and how often it needs to be changed when used in anger?

Beer- was always partial to lagers. Tiger beer from Singapore was a life saver in the heat.

Murphy's Stout is still my go to drink when I want to live dangerously. Gluten intolerance and Australian Syrah has swayed my taste.
Port and brandy will be my down fall.

Talk about beer - Dingo Don, a good tracker. When dogs were moving back into the sheep country around Charleville, property owners would form a syndicate of a number of a joining properties.
The shire would by a couple of hundred dollar per dog and the property owners would throw in more to bring it up to $500 for a dog and $100 for pups.

One bloke I flew for had seen tracks around and between him and they neighbors they thought there was four dogs in the area so got Don in.
In three weeks he had 130 dogs hanging on the fence.

He had bought a house on the coast. Ideal location. Pub behind him and boat ramp in front. A good life. Very little running costs, just a cheap motorbike, .243 rifle and many traps. A middle aged full on bushy single. Pub at the back, boat ramp at the front. What more could you want.

Well certainly Tyskey is brewed in Poland now but that is only from 1990.(1)

The town of Tychy , in Upper Silesia , in Germany started brewing it in 1629-so I consider it a German beer because of its origin.

1.When did Poland get Upper Silesia?

And later, in the years 1945-1989, a large number of Poles from various parts of Poland settled in Upper Silesia, who received work, e.g. in the mines. The area formally became part of the Republic of Poland by virtue of the German-Polish border treaty of 14 November 1990.

With some practice, excellent beer can be brewed in smaller batches. An easier solution is to switch to mead. It's much easier to ferment, it's highly resistant to spoilage organisms so you can avoid using sulfites, and it's good for around 20 years. It's fairly easy to make up to 24% alcohol but it's too hot to drink for a couple of years. Stuff in the 8-12% alcohol range is pretty good by 6 months but at 18 months it's fantastic.

https://www.lcbo.com/en/tyskie-beer-409581

Tyskie (Polish: [ˈtɨskʲɛ]) is a Silesian-Polish brand of beer. Its name comes from the brewery located in the Upper Silesian town of Tychy. It is brewed by the Tychy Princely Brewery (Polish Tyskie Browary Książęce), part of the Kompania Piwowarska brewery group, which was acquired by Asahi Group Holdings in 2017.[1]

Beers
The main brands are Tyskie Gronie (pale lager).

History
The brewery is one of the oldest in Europe. Beer has been produced in Tychy continuously for almost 400 years. From 1629, the brewery, then known in German as the "Fürstliche Brauerei Tichau" (Princely Brewery Tychy), was in the ownership of the German noble House of Promnitz [de]. From 1861, the brewery became known as the "Fürstliche Brauerei in Tichau" (Princely Brewery in Tychy) and came under the management of Hans von Hochberg [de] from the German princely (German Fürsten) House of Pless. Between 1918 and 1939, the brewery merged with neighbouring competing companies, but came under provisional administration of the Polish state intermittently from 1934 due to unpaid taxes.

Something I will put here rather than the Palestine/Lebanon thread as it is just some technical thoughts.

The devices exploding in Lebanon. Several unexploded devices dismantled and hidden explosive found so that question is settled. The how and why has no place in this thread.

But Lithium batteries detonating? I can find no evidence of it anywhere. No images no videos, only claims. The can burn fiercely and fast but do not explode. One large shipping container side battery did create a slight explosion when the steel container burst from the pressure or blew the rest of the inspection door open. Two firefighters had opened an inspect hatch to see why the large steel box was emitting smoke. At that time the battery ignited and they received critical blast injuries but where not killed outright even though standing right at the box looking in.

In researching lithium batteries, the flammable part is the electrolyte. Apparently polymer - which itself is a general term - is the electrolyte between plates. Plates separated by porous insulation material. When a battery is charged, lithium ions move through the polymer from one plate to the other and when discharging, the lithium ions move through the electrolyte in the opposite direction.

A self sustaining combustion requires oxygen though some other exothermic chemical reactions do produce similar heat.

Modern batteries, as well as lithium ions have also a metal oxide - a number of different metals can be used - that transfers through the polymer when charging and discharging. This gives the oxygen component. Charging and discharging are the most dangerous times for battery fires.

So the devices in Lebanon had explosives installed but also there are credible reports of the batteries/device heating before exploding. This means the oxygen component was moving through the electrolyte at the time the explosives were detonated.

Many modern explosive can be safely lit and burned without them exploding. During the Syrian war, I saw a video of a Syrian soldier cook his flatbread using TNT for fuel for the fire. Those type explosive require a detonator to provide a shock which then detonates the main explosive.

This is possibly the same with the lithium batteries and would explain why there were reports of the battery heating before the explosive was detonated. The small amount of electrolyte if detonated would add to the small amount of explosive that was installed.

Although no reports on where the explosive was hidden in the devices, the most likely area is a modified battery that is part battery and part explosive.
If this was the case, then the best possible polymer and the best possible oxide could be used for these batteries to help increase the blast.

Beer? For me, quantity beats quality. I must have odd tastes though because to me, most of the cheap beers actually taste better though some are crap. Same with whiskey. I have tried various more expensive whiskies and did not like them even when I did not drink much.

For me, best beer was the green label stuff in Thailand and China that was mentioned up thread. Worst whisky was a bottle I bought in chinatown Bangkok. Undrinkable. Smelt a taste like rotten fish along with a number of other rotten things.

When I got back to Australia, I tested it on everybody I knew. Got some funny reactions. Completely undrinkble. Metho goes down better even with the denaturing agent.

I like pale lager-type beers, something light and refreshing like spring water lemonade, summertime beer.

I liked Busch Ice (cheap 6% Canadian lager) but they had serious quality control issues, like Ipecac-caliber, literally. Smelled a bit like wine upon opening, but violent and prolonged projectile vomiting off one swig. Too bad, cause it was a fresh-tasting beer, where you could almost taste the spring water.

So I went back to Pabst Blue Ribbon lager, which doesnt have QC problems. My old standard.

I dislike Black Label, and I would accept a Bud but wouldnt buy one unless the other choices were worse. Tastes like barley and puts me to sleep.

I like Miller High Life, liked Dos Equis when i tried it in Mexico.

Corona Extra is often on sale at 24 for 30$CDN, and it’s my Go-To beer now, cause it’s light-tasting and refreshing, and I havent had any QC surprises.

I used to drink every day, but now only about twice a week.

CHEERS ALL !!

@ 66 Peter

Was thinking along similar lines

Electrolyte is flammable as gasoline apparently.

Search fb (sorry) for: /therealunclerob/videos/how-is-1-ounce-of-gasoline-1-stick-of-tnt

Where he detonates gasoline with electric charge.

Add to that that one of the electrodes is @ 50% oxygen.

So the explosive charge might have been used as detonator.

If a circuit capacitor could achieve detonation then :-( .

Late ...zzzzzzz.

I was think a bit more about the oxides and electrolyte designed as an explosive. From battery fires I have seen, the general is not enough oxide to fully burn the polymer and some burns when mixing with atmospheric oxygen. With the pager explosion I saw, there was no sign of this occurring.
There is also the problem of shortened amp hours if the same style battery is used.

Properties of a battery are dependent on the oxides used. Some batteries now have huge storage capacity in amp hours. Also some of the latest just use all oxides.

I think in this way, the amp hours of the smaller battery could be increased back to close to the original (making the change hard or impossible to detect by electrical testing) along with the added oxides giving a balanced fuel oxygen mix.

Worst whiskey I've ever tasted is still in my house. Hard to describe the flavor but it's probably what turpentine mixed with some stale teak wood might be like. Surprising thing is it's not cheap and it's Japanese. They developed a good rep for mimicking single malt scotch over the years and Japanese Whiskey now stands on its own. Lemme go look because it's worth warning people about.

Hakata 10yr. https://thewhiskeywash.com/reviews/whisky-review-hakata-whisky-aged-10-years/

Not my bag at all. Talisker 10 is a great baseline winter scotch and in the summer I like various Glen Morangie singles depending on what's available.

Never had any QC issues with Busch products but stopped buying them for a while during my environmentalist-activist phase b/c the Coors people were big strip miners. Not even sure if they own the beer anymore. Mexican beer is where I have a lot of experience. My favorite overall is Bohemia. It's excellent. Next is probably Modelo or Corona Especial. You should try the Corona one. It comes in dark brown rather than clear glass bottles and they sell it here in 32oz quarts at most stores. Tecate is awesome in warm weather but it absolutely needs salt and lime on the top of the can prior to popping it. I've been drinking XX since the late 80s and it has a Fruit Loops taste to it if you pay attention. Can't stand the shit now. Corona is like you said, light and refreshing but you won't be catching a buzz any time soon. Like the Michelob Ultra of Mexican beers. And speakin' of Michelob, regular Michelob was probably the best mass-produced American beer at the time it was on the market. I'd buy some today if I could get my hands on it. They don't even make it anymore at the Budweiser brewery in St. Louis which was a big disappointment after the walking tour ended and they started handing out the samples.

If we were and actual sovereign country with a government governing in the interests of the people, that gas would be nationalized to at least 51% and energy charged at cost. Economy runs on energy, cheaper the energy, the better the economy.

That gas could be piped to the coast and up and down the est coast where the main part of Australia's population. It can be piped straight into the boilers of existing coal power stations and new ones built, greatly reducing emissions. It can be fed straight to various industry that requires heat energy plus new industry requiring heat start and be competitive.

The electricity could power heavy fast rail, taking thousand of long distance trucks off the road. But that gas would in every way greatly reduce carbon emissions and at the same time, with good planning, it would greatly boost our economy.

But who cares about that. Homosexulism is elevated as a god everyone should aspire to. Who needs an edamacation when there is gender studies and the fires of climate hell to learn. There are wars to fight and US mic must be fed at all costs. Disinformation and misinformaton to police. Traitors to be weeded out and censored.

The next day, the German Minister of the Interior prohibits the weekly, and the offices are raided by police.

Up in Northern Canada a small town where we used to have a house used shelter our mineral exploration workers were having an charity auction to help fund the local hospital.

I knew a Doctor who collected fine wine held them for years then sold/donated them at charity auctions and got a tax break when selling the bottles.

One day it was my buddy's birthday and I took him to our local fancy Italian restaurant for lunch I as in a hurry ad grabbed a $60 buck (forget the brand) from my small wine cellar and took it to the restaurant which charged $25 to uncork a bottle.

Anyways, I fucked up had grabbed the wrong bottle and ended up drinking one of the Doctor's 1998 Chateauneuf de Pape which would sell at the charity auction for $500.

The depressing thing was that both my buddy and I didn't like the taste-the sommelier, whom we knew well, tasted the wine and said it was excellent and we are 'unsophisticated bums" as he helped himself to a full glass, murmuring, 'You guys don't deserve this nectar'.

So I had to pay the charity the $500 and was told I was an idiot.

Not my best day..

Just read in Reuters that PETN was found integrated with the battery pack of the radios that blew up in Lebanon in a way that was difficult to detect. Seems the batteries had and integrated triggering mechanism that activated on a signal as even batteries that had been removed had exploded. Anything more Anything more there is for the Palestine thread.

MH370. Plenty in the media on its cargo of batteries.

Flight MH370 disappeared four years ago with 239 people on board. Like this one.

"A new report on Monday was meant to be the final word, but essentially admitted that nobody knows what really happened.

It did dismiss some of the more outlandish theories, however.

One had seen people fixate on the plane's cargo — a shipment of batteries and mangosteen fruit which some believed could have mixed and combusted.

Malaysian government investigators dismissed this as "highly improbable" — not least because the products were wrapped and stored apart from each other."
............

I haven't looked at the current open Palestine thread but the Reuters report said the Lebanese authorities had said the PETN had been found integrated in a way difficult to detect. It was long after I remembered MH370 had a cargo of batteries. But if MH370 had been taken over by remote control which to me is the only theory that makes any sense, it could have just been dived into the ocean anywhere and would not require a bomb.

He fought the Romans then escaped to their camp and told the Romans what they wanted to hear. In return the Roams supplied Flavius with a cushy life in Rome where he died in his bed..

Hence, anything he wrote is not credible.
