Israel’s Pager Attack – A Sophisticated One-Times Shot With Little Effect

Yesterday's terrorist attack by Israel against Hizbullah in Lebanon was quite sophisticated.

Back in February Hizbullah had urged its affiliates to avoid smart-phones, which can be controlled by foreign intelligence services, and to instead use pagers to receive text messages and alarms when necessary.

Israel must have recognized that suggestion as a chance to infiltrate the supply chain for these communication tools.

It somehow managed to manipulate pager shipments to Lebanon some of which would be acquired by Hizbullah and its affiliates. Yesterday specific encoded messages were sent to the manipulated pagers. Some moments later they started to blow up. Eleven people were killed and some 4,000 were wounded.

Not all people killed or wounded were members of Hizbullah. Pagers are also used by emergency and volunteer services. Western media avoid to call this attack a terrorist operation. But just ask yourself how they would describe the attack if this had happened to the other side of the conflict.

Pagers are not an exclusive means of Hizbullah. The attack was indiscriminate. The explosions happened in many situations of daily life – during visits in shops (vid), in driving cars in the middle of traffic, near to bystanders including children.

The pagers were sold under the brand name of Gold Apollo, a Taiwanese company specialized in such devices. But, according to the company, the devices sold in Lebanon were manufactured under license by the Hungarian company BAC Consulting KFT.

Lowkey writes:

The CEO and founder of BAC is Cristiana Arcidiacono-Barsony, who describes herself as a strategic adviser in internal affairs with international experience in the Middle East.

According to her academic profile she studied at SOAS and LSE universities in London.

The above points to an MI-6 involvement in the affair.

Elijah Magnier reports (vid) that the delivery of the pagers had been held up for several months by customs in a Middle Eastern country. The time was allegedly used by Israeli services to dismantle the devices and to replace their original Lithium-Ion batteries with ones which included explosives and birdshot to create a maximum of damage. The electronics of the devices were manipulated to trigger delayed explosions after the pager received a certain coded message.

This very sophisticated operations must have cost millions and must have involved a quite large number of specialists.

It would have been ideal for Israel to trigger such a mayhem as part of a general attack on Hizbullah. It would have increased Hizbullah's time to implement its defense plans.

To trigger the attack outside of a large scale war context is a rather limp maneuver. Most of the wounded will soon recuperate and return to their duties.

Israeli officials claim that they triggered the operation because some Hizbullah members had found out about the explosives and would soon alarm their leadership. It was thus a 'use it or lose it' situation.

That though does not sound plausible to me. How would Israel know that Hizbullah members found out about it? If they had so why would they not immediately inform their command of the imminent danger?

It is more plausible that the Netanyahoo government used the attack as a means to silence it critics which demand an all out attack on Hizbullah. The Israeli military and Netanyahoo know that a war with Hizbullah would be theirs to lose.

Now they can say: "See, we are already doing something very very serious …"

But that wad has been blown for little effect. It was a one time shot. They chances to repeat such an operation are close to nil.

Tomorrow Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah will publicly offer more information about the incident and its possible consequences.

Comments

(…)Brussels-based military and political analyst Elijah Magnier told Al Jazeera his sources close to the ground in Lebanon had shared details from initial investigations carried out by Hezbollah on pagers that did not explode.
Those investigations suggest that Israel placed 1 to 3 grammes (0.04 to 0.11oz) of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), a powerful explosive, in each device.(…)

I did not say that AI/Cyberattacks were used in these attacks but rather that the future will rely on AI/Cyber attacks to carry out similar and worst attacks. And that’s where humanity is heading whether ‘we’ humanity like it or not.

From Zero Hedge:

According to a report prepared by the American Center for Levant Studies (ACLS), early estimates suggest 4,000 Hezbollah fighters were injured in yesterday’s attack, affecting about a quarter of leadership.
Around 4,000 Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon were injured after their communication pagers exploded. Eleven members of Hezbollah, including leaders, were confirmed dead in today’s attack with 400 in critical condition and 500 losing their sight. This significant blow left 10% to 25% of the party’s leadership out of service, marking a major disruption in Hezbollah’s command structure. Experts in the region are calling the incident a “checkmate” for Hezbollah. Explosions spread into Syria as devices detonated in a car in Damascus, injuring 18 fighters.
ACLS noted that pentaerythritol tetranitrate explosives were embedded into each of the pagers:
The pagers, acquired as part of a technological upgrade, were brought to Lebanon five months ago from the Taiwanese company Gold Apollo. The explosive material was inserted before the devices arrived in Lebanon. Initial reports indicate they contained PETN, a powerful explosive material. Each device had no more than 20 grams of PETN, known for its strength and sensitivity. While PETN doesn’t explode on impact or ignition, it can be triggered by continuous vibrations. For reference, 1 kilogram of PETN equals 1.25 kilograms of TNT. Repeated, continuous messages sent to the pagers caused prolonged vibrations, leading to the explosion.
Now, everyone is checking their electronic devices for explosives.

If true, what a shit show.
This is what you get for playing the long game.
What’s your next move Nasrallah?

Use it, or lose it.

Marat Khairullen writes about Ansarallah’s hypersonic missile strike, the following are the key points I’ll highlight for this comment:

The Americans, for example, have not yet broken through there – how did the Houthis achieve this?
Moreover, such a long-range flight along such a complex trajectory of a hypersonic missile means that the Houthis have a very advanced navigation system.
A conditional ballistic missile receives navigation adjustments at each segment of its route, otherwise, when approaching the end point, so many errors accumulate that the missile smears heavily. All this requires special computing power, navigation technologies, and finally, specialists. Where did the Houthis get all this?
Even just to design the body of such a rocket (“special gas-dynamic profile” – sounds scary), you need large computing power and extensive practical experience in experiments.
Fuel is another separate and endless topic. Our Kinzhal is solid-propellant and therefore flies at speeds of up to Mach 7, and in order to accelerate the missile more, the fuel must include hydrogen.
And the combustion of such fuel itself is carried out in a special mode – they write about a kind of supersonic detonation in the combustion chamber.
How could the Houthis learn all this without laboratories, chemists, endless experiments, a base for the production of appropriate materials? Where is the school of sopromat, higher mathematics, gas dynamics, molecular chemistry and particulate physics?
They point the finger at Iran, but where did Iran get all this, if before that this country did not have a reserve in all these areas. Were there no thousands of experiments, special test sites, hundreds of highly specialized R&D?
And many such questions arise literally at every stage of the creation and use of hypersound. Take, for example, the question – how did the missiles get to the Houthis, if they did not come up with them. [My Emphasis]

Indeed, and shouldn’t we assume Hezbollah has a similar capability if Ansarallah was supplied likely via the sea. IMO, the Outlaw US Empire is certainly thinking hard about that potential. Hezbollah has yet to reveal its actual missile capabilities, particularly those it has for AD. Of course, the key to those is AD radar, which will only be illuminated when many Zionist assets can be eliminated. If I understand the properties of the Russian radar that was given to Iran, then Iran could detect the air raid and alert Hezbollah so the latter doesn’t expose its radars too soon.
Will the Outlaw US Empire risk its carrier groups? Biden’s Neocons would but will the Pentagon obey them?

Two toddlers were killed. That wouldn’t seem like much
reportedly the 12 deaths included “two children and several healthcare workers.” That averages out to at least 1/2 the victims being civilian. no reason to assume the wounded have a different %.
the times of israel article claiming 500 hezbollah members lost their eye site according to some tv station in saudi arabia is the most ridiculous fantasy i’ve read today.
even if 1/2 the victims died (they didn’t!) that would not put a dent on Hezbollah. Israel has been trying to provoke a big Lebanese attack for a long long time. Frankly, i don’t think this will do it.

I work with Arabs. Broadly speaking… they’re incompetent, are obsessed with hierarchies, and show little initiative. The port explosion was an illustration of this, and now we have the pager and walkie-talkie explosions.
Why oh why would “The Resistance” – who call themselves this to indicate resistance to ZATO hegemony – buy devices from a company based in a Western-aligned country like Taiwan?
It’s forehead-smackingly stupid, and if the average Hizbullah member didn’t distrust his superiors before, he certainly does now.
b is dreaming if he doesn’t consider this a major, major blow to Hizbullah, what with thousands of people reported injured… many of whom are almost certainly Hizbollah commanders and soldiers.
I’d be very surprised if Israel doesn’t kick off a major offensive any time now.

I read that the American Hospital in Beirut unexpectedly changed its pagers last week.
Some people think that this means that the US was involved, or that the US got a warning from Israel.
Maybe. But maybe not.
Maybe the US realized that something was off with those pagers. They may have warned the hospital, and contacted Israel about it.
Unless the US were behind that attack, they may have even told Israel to cease and desist since those pagers were obviously not only going to hit Hizbollah.
Maybe the hospital noticed that something was amiss, and informed official bodies – both American and Libanese.
Maybe the hospital just changed their pagers, and Israel feared that they had been found out.
All scenarios would qualify as a “use it or lose it” situation.
Actually it was a use it or lose it situation as soon as Israel modified those pagers, and had them delivered to Libanon.
The longer they waited, the more certain it was the pagers would be found out – or just replaced.

The weaponization of terrorists and their methods by governments is a trend that began with the CIA and other Western intelligence agencies. Remember the jihadis that were incubated at Al-Tanf? ISIS itself looks like a Western creation.
Israel has simply raised it to a new art form. It’s now taken to another level as civilians are being targeted.
The big question now is whether Russia, China, or Iran will stoop to this tactic. I keep on harping about the porous southern US border but it is really only a matter of time before something wicked comes to the US homeland.

The continuing explosions, the continuing killing, maiming and wounding of civilians, the continuing targeting of physicians and health care professional, makes Israeli actions not only a full throated act of war but also an impossible to justify war crime, just as the obliteration of the trapped Gazans is such. All occurring as the UNGA is discussing the issues surrounding Israeli’s genocide of Palestinians, the return to the original boundaries for a vigorous Palestinian state and the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his cronies. UN affiliates with all of international court operations.
This is not a catastrophe for Hezbollah – consider it a maximal recruiting opportunity, since Lebanese of all political factions were targeted. These injured people are bright, capable and rehabilitation techniques, particularly those employed by the Chinese and Russia are world class: The blind can be very, very effective on modified computers; prosthetic limbs have extraordinary efficacy and there are amazing and remarkable computer based treatments for brain injury. It is a guarantee that the Axis of Resistence will ultimately bring world class treatment to Lebanon for the injured. With the result that there will ultimately be a longstanding cadre of Hezbollah with profound and enduring hatred for Israel for just cause.
Finally, Hezbollah, Ansar Allah and the other non state actors are now fully justified in “taking off the gloves” and hitting Israel (and those large floating US offshore coffins ) with impunity, while continuing to maintain the moral high ground.
Also, as word gets out of more than one nefarious, underhanded attack on Lebanese non combtants, using a technology that can be rapidly appropriated by virtually any evil minded individual with a grudge, there can be expected to be big time political blow back in IS/UK/US.
Once again – in the long run, an own goal.

Hezbollah has been caught flat footed… With this second wave of blasts, wouldn’t surprise me if Israel invaded Lebanon and went to the Litani river. With communications now disrupted it would be an opportune time…
This shows the perils of waiting too long… I know I’m second guessing but Hezbollah should have extracted it’s revenge last month, now it’s communications are disrupted, there is chaos and probably some finger pointing as well. While Iran and Hezbollah dithered and delayed their revenge, Israel continued its genocide unabated and unhindered and even expanded it to the West Bank. Everyone in the middle east is so paralyzed by prospect of a widespread war that they do nothing (except the Houthis. God bless em) other than meaning less talk and hand wringing. Except for Israel. who uses this fear to its’ advantage. it bombs Syria any time it wants with no reaction from Syria or Russia, assassinates who ever it wants, kills civilians by the thousands, etc…. Apparently, before the pagers were shipped to the Lebanon (or Hungary), they spent a deal of time in a Middle Eastern country (one of the Gulf states?), no doubt for the modifications to be made and as has been mentioned here, other electronic devices have also been exploding and killing/maiming people, not only in the Lebanon but also in Syria.

It would be interesting to know which Middle Eastern country was used to hold up the shipment. That should be widely know by insiders. My guess is some type of embarassement is causing this to not be released. Was it Israel?
Hezbollah controls all the entry ports in Lebanon. Why order pagers and not have them shipped directly to the country of origin? They are known to be quite corrupt raking off taxes on anything coming in or out above what Lebanon itself taxes.
Some of the injuries were quite grusome. There is also the psychological effect. It is clear that Israel is not ready for a land war or they would have went in directly.
This is not over by any means. They will find more ways to degrade them psychologically and physically keeping the tempo of this “eye for an eye” trading of strikes up.

This indiscriminate attack on the people of Lebanon was totalitarian terror. Anyone with these pagers could have been, and was, a victim, regardless of their political affiliation, ethnicity, religion. Israel’s attack has made all Lebanese victims. The divisions defining Lebanese society were also attacked by these armed pagers. A huge miscalculation by the fascist war lords of Israel and their allies the British and Americans. A unified Lebanon will be a much more difficult foe than just waging war against Hezbollah.

Use the military capabilities, together with the knowledge of Israhell’s weaknesses to strike and severely handicap Israel and keep them on the back foot.
Or risk losing this capability over months of Israel nibbling away with clever, dirty little tricks until most of the Hezbollah manpower is laid up in hospital or dead.
Use it. Or lose it.

What is the mechanism to get all sorts of Walkie-Talkies and other things to explode?
Posted by: Norwegian | Sep 18 2024 16:12 utc | 143

What works best is propaganda, and to claim the walkie-talkie explodes when it in fact doesn’t.
There is no simple way for the radio to send a detonation message to its battery pack. It could possibly be done with I2S protocol but that would require deeply modifying the radio hardware, firmware and battery pack. It would be very expensive to do yet easily detected because I2S messages are hard to hide.

If like the MSM tells us the history of Palestine started on Oct 7, and was an unprovoked attack by terrorists, then obviously anybody acticvely supporting that terrorism is a combatant and would be naive to buy enemy products.
This is incredibly naive thinking.
The Middle East has been putting up with state terrorism by Jews for 100 years or more. They don’t acknowledge Israel’s claim to the land except as foreign terrorists. The entire world, except Nazis, opposes state terrorism, so their opposition cannot conceivable make the whole world combatants.
That is possibly what the Israeli
terrorists do think, , that the entire world is against us so we will attack everybody in sight, be it Europe Nordstream, Sri Lanka tourists, our neighbours and allies alike.
That’s obviously what these Israelis do think, to randomly attack all the occupants of Gaza indiscriminately, and to attack their neighbours diplomats, doctors and children playing football indiscriminately.
But this is Israelis’ madness which Israel’s neighbours are just taking no notice of, the daily beatings, killings , starving, bombings, rape.
So I object strongly to your implying that the victims of Israeli insanity are participants in Israeli insanity.
They are just trying to get on with normal life.
I don’t agree with your false premise that Political Islamists in any one of its rainbow of flavours was not liaising with Israel in planning events on Oct 7. When I say Political Islamists, I mean the mercenaries of USUKIS.
How can we live through 50 years of false flags that re-drew the maps of Europe and West Asia to.mention just two , and all of a sudden the main conspirator in USUKIS, suddenly experiences a spontaneous insurrection?

The world is against Israel now. This attack will make Israel’s enemies stronger. It will unify and coalesce. One can expect a massive coordinated response from the axis resistance, and this time may not avoid collateral damage such as covilians and civilian infrastructure. This puts all Israelis at risk.

I recall that during Gulf War One the US was able to sabotage the Iraqi air force.
Some of the Iraqi air craft had been fitted with special chips that the US could, with a signal,
use to disable the air craft.
I have wondered about the Ukraine war and how the Western fools are seemingly pushing
the world towards nuclear war. Are they total fools or are they fools that believe they have
an ace up their sleeves?
After the Lebanon terrorizm one has to wonder if the West has technically poisoned
some vital Russian war gear that is important to the Russian nuclear weapons systems.

The problem for Hezbollah or for any other enemy of Israel/USA is not who supply the devices, but to supervise and control all the supply chain from the factory to the reception by their people, taking account that Mossad/CIA has access to all the supply chains in the world and has agents in almost all the countries around the world. Even if they are made in China or Russia they could be compromised.
Hezb should only have devices assembled inside Iran, every component verify with detail by the IRC, and supply to Hezb as if they were rockets or missiles, in every moment scorted by Hezb people, because in fact they are dual use systems and can be, as we can see, weaponized by the enemy with devastating consequences.
They must consider every device they use a “weapon grade systems” and do not use normal suppliers, vendors or transport companies
It seems they (Hezb) underestimate the capacity of the Mossad and the combine help of the western intelligence agebcies

The walkie-talkie shown in the photos online is so big, there can be a big bomb inside and a receiver too. I suppose you could fit a receiver in the pager too, no hacking of the pager software needed anymore, it just needs to be within emitter range, which could be a plane or drone or an antenna in another country.

Gas dynamics isn’t scary. Most energy/mechanical engineers have to take at least a semester studying this. It is simply compressible fluid dynamics, as opposed to incompressible fluid dynamics (think water, which doesn’t compress very easily). Air is a gas, which is a compressible fluid. If one wants to design wings which require operation at supersonic speeds in compressible fluids, then it’s important to consider where the shockwave will be located. Simply put, if you’re designing boats or sub’s, you’d study incompressible fluid dynamics. If you design hypersonic objects, you study gas dynamics.

The Zionist regime just destroyed the long-term viability of their technology sector to score some tactical victories. Netanyahu and his ilk only care about themselves, very much like Hitler in his bunker. If they are to be destroyed so will Israel.

Who EVER trusted devices produced by the Israeli technology sector?
At Thanksgiving one year a boy friend of a cousin related how
his roommate worked installing Israeli technology.
A third party US company had their name on the Israeli product. My guess is so that
there would be less resistance to the product. At any rate, these
are water meters attached to US homes which are read via radio technology.
You see where I am going with this.
Israel could shut off the water to US homes with the flip of a switch.
Don’t have any idea how extensive their infiltration has been,
that Thanksgiving was about a decade ago, I believe.

Deception & lies, sometimes involving significant sacrifices, are at times required by the state. Sometimes the state must support Hamas, sometimes it must lower its defenses. Arabs ARE lower IQ, hierarchal, and show little initiative. However, looking back over history, when the Arabs have a high IQ/high initiative leader, the entire culture, because of their love of hierarchy, will organize behind the leader to achieve amazing feats. This is how they could invade and conquer Spain, cross the Pyrenees and make it all the way up to Tours / Poitiers before Charles Martel defeated them.
I wonder sometimes if, under the stress of eighty years of fighting more advanced Jews, the Arab culture has slowly raised up more and more competent leaders. As those leaders slowly proved themselves and moved up the hierarchy, the entire culture has become more dangerous.
Iranians, on the other hand, are an entirely different people from the Arabs. They are genetically separate, despite their shared religion. Various subsets of Iranians, such as the Persians, have higher average IQs and are known for their initiative. For example, large scale genetic studies have shown a link between the Germans and northern Indians and some Iranian ethnic groups. In other words, it seems pre-historic groups originating in central Asia migrated into northern Europe, northern India, and Iran. The significance of this comes in Iranian technical and scientific abilities. Iranians began attending American universities in the 1880s. In the 1940s, the Iranian education establishment began consciously sending top Iranian high school graduates to top American schools, including MIT and Ivy League schools. Many of these Iranians moved into technical and scientific jobs in American corporations. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, waves of Iranians educated for and employed in American engineering and scientific jobs returned to Iran. That was 45 years ago. Now imagine all those highly educated, highly trained, and highly experienced Iranian engineers and scientists building entire industries in Iran separate from the outside world.
Now bring the Iranians and Arabs, who historically have not got along, together to fight a common enemy. The Iranians can feed certain weapons, or at least weapon components, to Arab groups. If those Arab groups have effective leaders and a cohesive hierarchal culture (Houthis), then the combination will be a significant threat to groups fighting them.
I think that is what we saw in the Houthis missile attack on Israel a few days ago – the combination of Iranian technical ability and the never say die group will of the Arabs.

And we cheer for China as well,

May they conquer Taiwan.
Break the noses of those Americans,

If Israel were to invade Lebanon up to the Litani River, the region affected would encompass much of southern Lebanon
The population of southern Lebanon, which includes areas from the Israeli border up to the Litani River, is estimated to be between 500,000 and 800,000 people.
Seems like now would be the time for Israel to do it.
Before the US election.
Communications are disrupted.
Humiliated Hezbollah disorganized.
Fear instilled into the population, more likely to flee North.
Ukraine with what looks like approval to hit Russia farther inland.
Iran implicated.
Maybe set up to take the oil fields on the Iran/Iraq border to stop the funding of terrorists etc…

They are a size format for a user with specific needs. I don’t think the manufacturer even tries to make them smaller. It’s like those FM radios for construction workers. Big, with handles, don’t break easily. It’s a design choice for a specific customer. Those walkie talkies allegedly burned cars when they exploded inside them today, there must be enough space inside, something else was changed to be smaller or there is another reason for the burning cars.
