People vary in their their ability to bear the burdens. Some people hide from sight and cry, while others are unable to cry. “They collapse and die.”

This reminds me of a true story from Africa, though I do not remember the tribe even. As colonial jails were introduced, local tribes people would simply die when jailed. It was not a cover up or similar, was an unexplained mystery. Sorry I have no better reference.
It also reminds me of a Dutch friend. He was unusual as far as dutchmen I know, very composed, pensive and enigmatic. Well he had a major shift of perception one day. He was walking through town and a horse drawing a passenger carriage through traffic collapsed right in front of him. He took it as a message, about the limits of his own ability to carry stress and burden. He changed his outlook and way after that.
