A must read article. An openly fascist approach but also one at odds with reality. Is Israeli’s brutality in Gaza really intimidating Iran or Yemen ? Does the US have any weapons or military achievements that would intimidate Russia or China ?

Many posters here have put forth the idea that the Oct 7 Hamas incursion was fully orchestrated, choreographed and engineered by the I Israelis with, of course, the full blessing and possible complicity of the US. If this is indeed the case, perhaps the first act in this drama may have been the US unseating of Imran Kahn who sympathized with the Palestinians and could have used his nations nuclear weapons leverage to force the Israelis to desist in their effort to slaughter and eradicate the Palestinians.

To every immoral, brutal, inhumane, and genocidal action of the Zionists there will be a reckoning in time.

Blinken, one week ago:
“The reality in this moment is the only thing standing between the people of Gaza and a ceasefire is Hamas…taking the ceasefire should be a no-brainer.”
He has since been silent on Hamas’ acceptance and Israel’s rejection of the proposal, while State Department spokespersons emphasize a new weasel phrase “major operation” (I.e. incursion of Rafah with tanks is not a “major” event).
Later today, Blinken is expected to present to Congress an official State Department report absolving Israel of responsibility for violation of international law regarding indiscriminate use of military power and obstruction of humanitarian aid. It is one thing to promote interpretive narratives of events, but entirely something else to deny a material reality that everyone else observes and understands plainly.

They still retain the ability to mass troops and armour to attack women and children, no one is scaring them. No one.

KSA funded the Pakistani bomb, and they almost certainly have at least one nuclear device as a result. That doesn’t mean the Pakistanis necessarily care less about Israel than the Gulf Arabs, but there’s no reason to think Khan was willing to do what no other Muslim leader will.

Posted by: sean the leprechaun | May 10 2024 16:04 utc | 6
Quite wrong. The Genociders are indeed scared. That’s why the campaign has taken the form it has. The ground troops are too scared to go into the tunnels. The only tactic that works is air bombardment.

It means that bullshit will only take you so far. After seven months they have to worry about losing their audience and their credibility. The demos make it clear they have “lost control of the narrative”, that is what is happening.
When your job is controlling the narrative, this is a big crisis.

@vargas
Like US “if Rafah is invaded we won’t supply weapons” 24 hrs after Rafah was invaded ?
US is “trying to stay on the good side”, creating a ‘public’ margin to later criticise “Israel” and so later apply US presence as “impartial”.
Same for UN, Palestine will be recognised once Gaza is completely finished, globalist forces will take over.
The US official stance is also to demoralise and disorientate own population.
Meanwhile:
“Hamas: Netanyahu and his extremist government are using the negotiations as a cover to attack Rafah and occupy the crossing, and continue the war of extermination against our people, and they bear full responsibility for obstructing reaching an agreement.
17:10”
And back to square one, which was not left, in fact.
End of distraction.
An interesting article on transition from UK rule in Palestine.
https://www.declassifieduk.org/israels-brutality-against-palestinians-draws-on-british-rule/
Personally I take the view that UK officially distanced itself from “Israel” after leaving the territory, that US took up the cause while UK maintained back channel influence and a relationship of elites with “Israel” . The british public have little opinion of “Israel” . To properly disentangle all the diffent facets is not easy.

re: “. . . shadowy detention center. . .”
The Israelis have learned from the US. Such behavior has been a corner-stone of US behavior in lands it has invaded and then had to deal with “insurgents.” Such US behavior was a hallmark of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” — from the web — “US-led occupation forces have committed numerous atrocities in Iraq since the invasion of 2003. Haditha, Hamandiya, Sadr City, Samarra and Ishaqi have become synonymous with murder, rape and the multiple killing of civilians.”. .and the forever Guantanamo Bay detention camp, etc.

“HAMAS REJECTED the USA ceasefire proposal. HAMAS accepted a ceasefire proposed by Egypt-Qatar that all understood to be unacceptable to Israel.”
There were no separate USA / Egypt-Qatar proposals. The mediation involved all three parties, directly supervised by CIA Director Burns. A “senior US official” told Axios that Israel was in constant communication with the mediation process and that “there have been no surprises” i.e. introduction of “unacceptable” proposals. The claim that a “new proposal” was suddenly introduced came from unidentified Israeli officials speaking to Axios. Netanyahu had already dismissed the process days earlier as well.

I suspect Russia and China are heading that way as well. In he Donbass, Russia recognized the statehood of the two republics prior to the SMO. With that recognition, the republic could ask Russia for help/invite Russia in. Security agreements and so forth.

Hopefully this happens, and soon. Let every nation that voted to let Palestine into the UN as a full member first recognize them diplomatically as a sovereign state. Russia, Iran, China and Turkey could further offer security guarantees and back them up with boots on the ground.

Phew! Thanks for that.
Barflies need to understand that humanity does seem to be forming and expressing a conscience that says barbarism is bad. And not just a small group of nations.
An end to the existing world order is happening as reflected in b’s latest from the Economist thread. Humanity is in a civilization war about the form of social organization and I always characterize it as public/private finance, it also includes patriarchy, exceptionalism, Might-Makes-Right, etc.
How much of a move from barbarism into “socialism” is going to happen and when? If the UN vote is any indication, It seems sooner rather than later.
Will all the economic aggression of empire stop? I think only if the public/private finance nut is cracked open for all to see the ugliness of private finance/class system and society votes to try multipolarity and finance as a public utility provided by sovereign nations only.

Trita Parsi @tparsi
The UN General Assembly will vote tomorrow on a resolution that may effectively make Palestine a member state of the UN. As you may recall, Biden vetoed a resolution at the UNSC earlier this year that sought to admit Palestine as a member.
Based on a draft of the resolution I have reviewed, I do believe that this resolution may become a big deal.
It does three important things. It reiterates that a Palestinian state must be created based on the 1967 borders and, by that, rejects the “facts on the ground” Israel has manufactured through its settlement project to render a Palestinian state impossible.
Second, it expresses “deep regret and concern” over Biden’s veto at the UNSC last month on this issue and recommends that the Security Council “reconsider the matter favorably.”
And thirdly, it appears to grant Palestine the full rights and privileges of a member EVEN if the UNSC fails to admit Palestine. This would be an unprecedented decision designed to circumvent Biden’s veto at the UNSC.
The draft that I have seen points out that this is done “on an exceptional basis and without setting a precedent.” This language is there in order to alleviate concerns that this could become a new tool that would be used on a regular basis to admit states such as Kosovo or Taiwan.
If it passes, it will further show how isolated the US is on this matter.
US law requires that the US defunds global institutions that admit Palestine as a member (remember the US’s “commitment” to the two-state solution?)
If Biden chooses to defund the UN as a result, it will only further undermine the US’s standing.
It is truly inescapable: Biden’s support for Israel is coming at a massive cost to the US itself.

I remember a story from online, a girl was at a party and gets talking to an Iraqi vet, and he takes out a photo album and it has pictures of children, he knows their names and says where and when the photos were taken, turned out they were all that he (or his unit) had killed. He said:
“That is what war is, killing other people’s children”
He later shot himself.
Poor guy.
War is no good.

The State Dept Report which includes assessment of Israel’s conduct in its Gazan military operations, released this afternoon, is a master-class in weasel-wording, which has allowed the western media to portray the findings as critical of Israel (if inconclusive).
In actual fact, the report absolves Israel of responsibility and gives prominence to largely debunked notions such as:
– Hamas uses civilians as human shields
-Hamas uses civilian infrastructure such as hospitals as military posts
-Hamas has engaged in widespread sexual violence
– half of the officially recorded deaths (now 35,000) were Hamas fighters
The report can be accessed here, with the pertinent information on pages 18-32:

re: “. . . shadowy detention center. .

I beg to differ, Don.
Have you forgotten G Dubya Bush’s post-9/11 Axis Of Evil declaration which included Iran, Iraq, Libya & Syria?
That declaration hilighted the fact that control of US Politics had been successfully transferred from Washington to Tel Aviv. The outcome was the War On Terror (for the Jews) and resulted in the destruction of Iraq, Syria and Libya as functioning states.
i.e. AmeriKKKa became Jewrael’s Bull In A China Shop.

PS Ireland to officially recognise State of Palestine
…… 12 years ago when the general
assembly accorded non-member Observer
State status to Palestine an
overwhelming majority of States voted in
favor that overwhelming majority of
States also made clear their support for
full membership of the United Nations
for the state of Palestine
and that overwhelming majority of
States reaffirmed the right of the
Palestinian people to self-determination
which importantly which crucially
includes the right to an independent
state for Palestine
and now as we return to this issue
in truly desperate circumstances
for the Palestinian people when even as
we speak the suffering and the hunger
and the horror continues in Gaza and
when a negotiated settlement that allows
both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples
to live in peace security and dignity
seem so very very far away it is clear
that lack of international support for
Palestinian self-determination is not
the issue that support is real it is
tangible here in this chamber but also
far beyond this chamber the real problem
the real problem has been the failure
over many years to act on this support
in a tangible way the failure of the
International Community to insist on
concrete and irreversible measures and
actions to demonstrate that they take
the rights and the dignity and the
security of the Palestinian people as
seriously as they rightly take the
rights and the dignity and the security
of the Israeli people
we know that the two-state
solution Remains the only viable option
the only viable option to secure a just
and Lasting peace that fulfills these
rights for both peoples
this chamber must have heard the
phrase support for the two-state
solution Ed by world leaders foreign
ministers ambassadors hundreds of
thousands of times but today today is
the day that we take one small step to
convert that phrase from a comforting
platitude into a concrete reality to
declare clearly and unequivocally that
Palestine is as the resolution says
qualified for membership in the United
Nations in accordance with article four
of the charter and should therefore be
admitted to membership in the United
Nations

Entire 12 minute speech by Likudnik at UNGA against Palestine membership, at end he shreds UN Charter. Worth carefully listening to entire speech ; enormous amount to unpack in those 12 minutes.
One suspects that the effect of his speech was only to further isolate Israel. It’s truely remarkable how tone deaf the Likudniks are.

Biden’s support for Israel is coming at a massive cost to the US itself.
Posted by: michaelj72 | May 10 2024 22:48 utc | 53
First, that is a very good thing.
But I that is the wrong way to say it – because Biden is irrelevant here – stop giving him the “agency” or “power” he does not posses or wield. No President has been or would be any different.
The correct rational way to look at this Palestine situation is very easy-
The US Govts & the American people’s preeminent support for Israel across decades is coming at a massive cost to the US itself…. finally.
And that is a good thing. May they collectively suffer hard and long for their stand against the Palestinian people and their human and legal rights as a people.
AS well as for their vile inhumane stand against the Russian, Chinese,Ukrainian, Libyans, Syrian, Nicaraguan, Venezuelan, Iranian, Iraqi, Houthi, Afghani, Vietnamese, Chilean, Latin American peoples across all nations, and all the other peoples of the world they have abused, threatened, controlled, impoverished, terrorised and slaughtered.

Every little thing you can do to support good and stifle evil in your garden counts. Every white kite flown, every watermelon icon displayed, every BDS done, every paid off debt, every reduced consumption of the empire’s goods and services… It all adds up. You count, you matter, and if no one else sees, you (and if you believe, those behind the veil of the living) at least see. 🙂

Hungary is a surprise; I was under the impression that Orban is independent of the ruling cabal.

My impression is that Orban is against the two-state solution. He wants to see all the land between the river and the sea one country with a heterogeneous population of Jews, Arabs, and other ethnocentricities.

Posted by: Alchemist | May 11 2024 5:19 utc | 91

The speech certainly was a masterful example of rhetoric – but the bald faced lies ( beheaded babies ) plus the overt racism ( sub-human Arabs ) and finally the vague accusations of corruption surely alienated the vast majority of diplomatic community.
The world already knows on 7.Oct the Likud ordered IDF gunships and main battle tanks to spray-and-pray massacring 400+ Israelis in a manic display of the Hannibal Directive. So using the 7.Oct to justify the (plausible) genocide only undermines Israel’s self-defense claims.
Throughout the entire 12 minutes, one can imagine the diplomats were thinking about the hundreds of videos they’ve seen of suffering children and acres of rubble. The phrase “who you gonna believe me or your own lieing eyes” comes to mind.
The speech will stand in history as an example of how not to win hearts and minds.

Below is a posting title from The Cradle that may bring a smile to the face of some barflies
‘Bushnell’s Men’ hack 30,000 western printers in protest of Gaza genocide
the quote

A hacker group dedicated to the memory of Aaron Bushnell, who burned himself to death in February in protest of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, has hacked into printers worldwide, causing them to print flyers promoting Bushnell’s message.
The hacker group, Bushnell’s Men, posted a message on its Telegram page on 14 March stating, “Due to the press boycott of the genocide in Gaza by countries profiting from the war, ‘The Bushnell’s Men’ as a hacker group is committed to exposing the reality via printing this paper through over 30,000 printers across the world.”
The message stated further, “We ask all truth-seekers to join the #Bushnellmen campaign in this regard. Our ultimate goal is to convey Aaron’s message to stop the genocide. Aaron put an end to his life on behalf of the other American soldiers who are forced to kill the innocent people in Gaza. Aaron didn’t die in vain. He has already inspired so many to stand up for truth and justice.”

JAB,
Agreed that speech was for domestic consumption. Surely to rally the cadre for Final
Victory. One must then ask, what was the calculus for the Likud to make such a alienating speech at the UNGA ?
My only explaination is the Likud wants Israelis to be isolated and feeling besieged. Someone once described the Likud as having a massive Masada obsession. TBD

“Hungary is a surprise; I was under the impression that Orban is independent of the ruling cabal.”
Here there is a confusion between Pharisee Zionism and Sadducee Zionism
Orban is a troglodyte who, logically and naturally, cannot stand the theatrical and insufferable mask of the other version of the same thing.
In the end they are two teenage aesthetics; but sociopaths who have power (like the plebs) give great importance to costumes, masks and staging.
