Regarding watching the Ukraine War commentaries:
My Favourite is Mercouris. But watching at x1 speed would be torture. So I watch at x2. His diction is excellent, so I have no problems. I would go to 2.5 if YouTube allowed it.
Similarly, x2 for Ritter, Hinkle, McGregor, Judge Nap & pals, Dore, Duran, etc etc.
Nixon I watch at 1.5, he talks so fast.
The Russian guys, I struggle to understand at normal speed, so I don’t bother.

One of the things I love about Slavs is how forthright they are. Not a lot of romantic thinking or daydreaming. The artistry is in the excellent execution, not the stylistic meanderings common in the West.

Blinken stated that Ukraine will join NATO.

Posted by: FieryButMostPeaceful | Apr 6 2024 16:42 utc | 203

Ukraine has not been defeated! How you can even make that claim is ridiculous.
Just who is it that Russia is fighting a grinding war with in Donbas? That’s right – Donbas.
There are no Russian troops in Kherson city! None in Kharkiv! None in Zaporizhzhia city! None in Odessa, none even in Kiev!
Your delusion is frankly breathtaking.
Do you think Russia is fighting nobody and the whole thing is for show?

You’re mistaking sports for warfare. Sports is winning a competition through mutually defined rules. War is achieving political objectives through force.
The Russians at the outset of the SMO stated that their objectives were to demilitarize Ukraine, “denazify” Ukraine and liberate the breakaway oblasts that had decided to join Russia.
Never once did Putin or anyone say they intended to occupy Ukraine … they didn’t even declare war. Do you really think the Russians want to govern the hornets nest that is western Ukraine? Western politicians, pundits and media however decided that they would define Russian objectives through a mythical work called “The Russian Playbook”.
This playbook is a bit of a head scratcher though because it has the Russians laying siege to a city of 3 million with a force of under 30,000 while ignoring that this action fixed the Ukrainian reserve allowing the Russians to sieze a land route to Crimea and completely ignored Russia’s masterful retreat and rearguard action to move an army of 30,000 over the Dnieper under fire with no casualties while crossing.

Kicking USA and friends out of Vietnam – victory.
Kicking USA and friends out of Afghanistan – victory.
Kicking USA and friends out of Ukraine – will be considered a victort(sic).

So, lots of legal battles you think ?

(IntelDrop) Putin’s Claim Confirmed By NATO Nation’s Ex-Minister? ‘ISIS Pawn Of USA…’ | Moscow Attack | Ukraine
Amid a heated war of words between Russia and the West over Vladimir Putin’s claim that Ukraine had a hand in the recent Moscow terrorist attack which led to the death of more than 140 people, a former minister of a NATO nation has made a huge statement. Panagiotis Lafazanis has claimed that the terrorist group ISIS, which claimed responsibility for the Moscow attack, is actually controlled by USA and UK security agencies. Watch the full video for more.

@ anon, §206:
So the cat´s out of the bag.
Panagiotis Lafazanis, erstwhile Greek minister, says the terrorists who attacked the Krokus concert were controlled by CIA and MI6. Any other politicians or NATO officials commented on this?

For me Buryats and Tatars who are fighting side by side with Great Russians against Nazies are more brothers than Slavs from Azov and Lyut who are fighting on the other side.
Once again, the graviest enemies almost always share their genotype. The war in America will be Reds vs Blues, not Whites vs Browns.
Posted by: Poslan1 | Apr 6 2024 16:19 utc | 199
That is actually a post I mostly agree with. This pan-Slavist horsecrap has gone for too long and only brought grief to Russia.
Still, if the Norteamericanos go for CivWar 2.0, it won’t be Red vs Blue, but Establishment vs Opposition. The lines do not appear to be clear-cut in the imperial core.

anon2020 198 – Yes 12 ga double odd or single odd buckshot would be very useful against low flying suicide drones, if the shotgun is automated in a Bendix type turret with plenty of ammo…….hundreds of rounds………..

Robert E. Smith 194 – Spot on there. RF is fighting to preserve Western Civilization from the WEC/Soros/Zuckerberg axis of evil.
Nuland and Sherman and Blinken-sky are merely the operators of the system which engaged in and fostered the now Ukrainian general war with the hopes of forcing Russia into a state of systematic collapse
They implemented the strategic policy to expand NATO to its outer limits, via the takeover/coup of the pro Russian Ukrainian government in 2014, with the expectation that Russia would allow this change. Obviously, the further tangent of this goal was the ethnic cleansing of the eastern Donbass of all Russians and Russian speakers in 2022.
Monday morning quarterbacking is a sport we all often play, but in retrospect, RF should have saved the then Kieve government in 2014 with an injection of Special Ops troops before the Nuland ball got rolling. All hindsight of course…….

… 12 bore …
Sounds a bit like rediscovering what was used by the army of Rhodesia – before they lost and it became Zimbabwe – in that civil war. They erected on a pole above their armoured Lorries what looked like a pincushion with shot gun cartridges facing outward in all directions. When under attack they would fire the thing which would spray the surroundings with shot gun pellets.
They called it the “hedgehog”. My uncle told me who was one of those conscripted soldiers.

A current Reuters headline “Ukraine’s Zelenskiy warns of dwindling air defence missiles”
I see SU-25 was used as CAS for about the first time on one section of the front.
An interesting aspect of attrition warfare is the trading of cheap drones for multi million dollar missiles. A particularly acute problem for the west with its privatized/financialized MIC and vastly overpriced products.

@MFB #183:

Julian is wrong and Julian is trolling…

How is Julian trolling and how is he wrong? The man is exasperated—rightfully so—by ridiculous comments such as Pierrot’s #88:

The SMO is almost over and 98% successful. Russia has won.

The road to victory is long and arduous. Russia is controlling a small part of Ukraine’s territory and population and is currently focused on mastering this new type of war characterized by transparent battlefield and high-precision weaponry, improving its military leadership, coordination and training, optimizing its military industry and so on, while waiting for the Ukraine to further weaken. While Russia’s position is solid, it’s not “victory” by any stretch of imagination.
@LoveDonbass #130:

Why do you keep talking about territory when you know that Russia is attritting Ukrainian forces and disarming the West?

There is no solid data on KIA and equipment losses and the notorious “7:1 kill ratio in favor of Russians” is stupid propaganda. As time passes, the West is slowly expanding its military industry, so “disarming the West” is not an obvious truth you think it is.

***… the head of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinskiy drew attention to this fact, writes Strana.ua.
“Paveli was the head of the puppet government of Croatia, an ally of Nazi Germany in 1941–1945, the executioner of Jews, Serbs and Gypsies,” he said.
Dolinskiy added that Paveli has the blood of more than 30 thousand Croatian Jews on his hands, most of whom were killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp.***
How strange that he didn’t also complain about — even notice? — the insignia and flags of the Azov and Aidar regiments in modern Kiev-Ukraine during the (Jewish) Poroshenko and Zelensky regimes.
Or the applied ideology of Netanyahu and the Zionists…..

I am generations removed from the language which google translate translates as the same as your post—so what sayeth you here ?
Ps re the subject of potatoes and their storage after harvest, you indeed must have cured those tatters well before storage, no?
Likewise I might remind those trying to grow potatoes in high altitudes like perhaps our friend Juliania that curing before planting ( curing cut potato plant sections with 2 eyes or so) may take longer at higher altitudes than the usual 1-2 days at 60-70 F before planting. If the potato cuts are not cured they may be vulnerable to disease.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Eduard Dolinskiy has been complaining about Ukrainian neo-Nazis non-stop since 2008. He’s one of the foremost critics of Ukrainian neo-Nazism.

suzan@207….it translates as
Fear nothing, but fear itself.
….as for curing potatoes, can I assume you mean after harvest, cut potatoes are cured for several days before planting, to heal the cut but I try, based on past harvests, to plant full uncut seed potatoes. Seems to work better up here on the 50th. As for after harvest cure, mainly we let them sit, I use wire drying rack, some people put on news print on the floor. They are turned several times over a few days, we just scuff the dirt off and that’s it. Not sure what the USDA says, but it works for us.
As an added bonus half of last year’s crop was potatoes that over wintered from the previous year, so I plan on doing that this year. I will though plant some Nursery seed potatoes, you always need a plan B when growing food. Especially up here.
Cheers M
all tips and ideas are welcome, thanks.

…wouldn’t Russia be a fool not to keep marching beyond Ukraine, and just crush all of weaponless Europe mercilessly once Ukraine is secured?

Posted by: UWDude | Apr 6 2024 8:34 utc | 147
Russia is an Orthodox Christian nation, unlike the USA which is allegedly run by Israel. So to answer your question, yes, Russia would be a fool to stoop to the same level as Israel and the USA.

So the shortage of weapons and ammunition announced all over NATO doesn’t make the case that they are being demilitarized?
