What are the $14.8 billion for DoD operations in Eastern Europe for?

Also – one wonders what means the deep state used to push Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Trump, into this full capitulation. Then again:

Michael Tracey @mtracey – 20:04 UTC · Apr 20, 2024

Mission Accomplished. It is done: Donald Trump and the House GOP just completed one of the most epic swindles in political history, with Trump personally effectuating the largest-ever disbursement of Ukraine funding through his emissary, "MAGA Mike Johnson" (as Trump lovingly calls him)

The $61 billion passed this afternoon is likely enough to underwrite the brutal, pointless trench warfare for at least another year or two.

This after the same old endless media screeching that Trump and MAGA Republicans were being brainwashed by Putin and would never fund Ukraine. That fundamental hoax continues — only this time Trump was in on it.

Check his Truth Social page for the "opposition" that deluded online MAGA followers are so sure he must've expressed against the bill. It doesn't exist.

I really could not give less of a shit if you accuse me of "TDS." I'm much more interested in being Truthful, and documenting what really happened for the journalistic/historical record. And this what just happened: Trump bamboozled his own supporters… Big League.

That’s just TDS cope. Soleimani was assassinated by the CIA, with the assassination presented to Trump as an established fact. Trump’s options at that point were to embrace the crime AND HE DID EMBRACE
This doesn’t make Trump a hero. He’s still just an oligarch, but let’s try to climb down from the TDS hysteria.

I see only one good point on voting for Trump: Biden got to go. But it is an important point, Democrats may have potential for being less evil, but they did not use it. Concerning Trump, I just do no see ANY better GOP candidate, yea, this bar is very low.

Piotr Berman@201 somehow concludes that, since Biden has to go, it has to be Trump. This is preposterous. None of the legitimate reasons Biden has to go, which are, a hard right war policy coupled with entirely inadequate gestures of domestic reform for the people and service to the wealthy will be changed by Trump. Thee is a substantial continuity in policies between Trump and Biden that that should shame the Trumpers. Instead they make lame excuses for Trump while denouncing Trump policies when Biden carries them out. This is duplicitous and dishonorable. (There is a substantial number of Trumpers who preach class collaboration with your favorite right-wing billionaire so long as they are bravely fighting the culture wars—so much for the dignity of labor and solidarity and kindness and other age-old values.)
William Gruff’s witless guff is quoted, somehow to justify this absurdity? The thing is, William Gruff doesn’t even know for a fact the CIA acted without Trump’s approval, not unless he heard it from his personal CIA handler? But second, the principle of plausible deniability is a politicians’ principle, for their benefit. The office of the President exercises authority over the highest officials of the CIA who serve at his pleasure. When he doesn’t take action against those who “disobey” him, he is endorsing the system, evading his responsibility. There may be a fig leaf, but only assholes deny there’s a dick underneath it.

Eddy?
Hard to quantify (25%?), but part of the reason I retired in Mexico was this upcoming Minimum. Was in Nova Scotia which has winters from November until July plus Lyme Disease is exacerbated by cold and damp. So headed South.
Taking a chance being up around 5,000 feet but hopefully it won’t get too cold if that Minimum actually happens (it’s a little late) since only two hours away from the warmest body of water in the world in the Gulf.
I read years ago that in early 1400’s Mexico suffered a demographic collapse due to an extremely cold spell which the inhabitants could not handle and which made the society relatively easy for the Conquistadores to roll over. If it gets that cold again we can cope better these days with extra clothing from China, greenhouses and better home heating.
(Hmmm…I wonder if the mass sacrifices were a way of sanctifying cannibalism which was needed after devastating crop failures due to the extreme and protracted cold?)
(And maybe this ‘climate change’ push to solar, wind and electric vehicles is to make the Minimum that much more devastating when it comes for those in Northern climes in the West to further a depopulation agenda….)

I call bullshit on Pepe’s story now, after a helpful and knowledgeable barfly sorted some things out in the palestine thread.
It is affirmed that the Iranian missile TELs are not likely damaged from an EMP blast. This means, quoting pxx, ‘from a deterrence point of view, it’s the opposite of the ideal case. You piss off your opponent while leaving their ability to retaliate untouched’.
I can’t see a sensible strategic calculation behind the story, as taken on face value. I’d say it can be ruled out. So it is a PsyOp, and as I’ve speculated above, the most likely target is Israel’s own people, whose sense of power, or rather outright superiority, has been kicked in the nuts by Iran.
Israel is no healthy society. What we are witnessing is clearly pathologic, not just ethically challenged. A bunch of unstable lunatics is driving their bus into the abyss.
Has anyone a close-up report on the mood in Israel these days? I wonder how they are doing. Disintegration is in the cards, probably only held up by a sense of unity in face of an enemy at the gates.
The Horror. The Horror.

And that’s another reason why the story is b/s, especially since Israelis know about the US-Russia coordination hotline in Syria.
What I’m curious about is, why would someone spread this rumour now?
The main political actors in the region & globally know it’s not true. Is it meant to spread fear in the region? Or pressure Israel to respond with more force, given their effort was thwarted/ a dud?
That also fits with Western media having the Israeli Missile strike narrative ready to go and already printed before it turned out nothing happened.
This may be the clue. It should be emphasized that *both* Tel Aviv and Tehran downplay the incident, saying there was no (outside) attack. It’s western media who’re trying to beat it up, citing the usual “unnamed government sources” calling it an Israeli attack. To which Tehran would have to respond.
Cui bono, or in this case: Who wants escalation, and who doesn’t?
I still owe you an answer on the ‘woke’ discussion we had. Long ago, but not forgotten.
If you’re interested, of course.

Just wrote something very much along those lines.
I get the impression that it’s all about engineering an escalation, by ‘forcing’ either Tel Aviv or Tehran to go the next step to satisfy domestic calls for ‘revenge’.
Anonymous outside sources claim that “Israel attacked Isfahan, so Iran must respond.”
Anonymous outside sources claim that “Israel’s attack was thwarted, so it must try again.”
Neither of the two want escalation.

In the case of gold I laugh as I remind market brainwashed friends…Buy the dip!
“Standard” market theory will bury the gold shorting folk but they are playing with fiat numbers in a machine so only the poor will lose until they take back their countries.

Actually it’s not “TDS cope.” Soleimani may have been assassinated by the CIA (or by USAF w/ CIA and Mossad coordination/targeting), at the time led by The Pimpeous One, but it was ultimately Trump’s call. It was the Pentagram that made the announcement and not Langley (though I am not sure what normal protocol is for CIA assassinations other than secrecy). Trump posted an image of the American flag on social media following the news of Soleimani’s death and made the following boast:

In his second tweet since the strike, Trump said, “Iran never won a war, but never lost a negotiation!” His first tweet, just after reports of the attacks surfaced, was an image of a US flag.
Trump also said “Soleimani has killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans over an extended period of time, and was plotting to kill many more…but got caught!” He added that Soleimani should have “been taken out many years ago”.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/1/3/qassem-soleimani-assassination-trump-pompeo-defend-decision
Pimpeous may have nudged Trump very hard in that direction, but that’s no different than any other President and the conflicting factions within their cabinet on decisions like this. It doesn’t excuse Trump; all it does is portray him as either dumb or all too willing to escalate with Iran – or both.
https://www.unz.com/mwhitney/did-pompeo-dupe-trump-into-the-soleimani-hit/
If anything, it’s reverse TDS cope to attempt to absolve him of any and every bad decision he made, including to indict Julian Assange.

Posted by: Tom_Q_Collins | Apr 22 2024 21:05 utc | 220

Testing this out. I left a long comment with links proving that Trump not only made the decision to assassinate Soleimani, but also boasted about it immediately after in subsequent, sequential posts to his social media. Like several of my recent comments it was auto-mod flushed.

Posted by: Tom_Q_Collins | Apr 22 2024 21:07 utc | 221

Posted by: William Gruff | Apr 21 2024 15:43 utc | 60
Just as any previous or subsequent President is “advised” and “goaded” by competing factions within their cabinet, Trump was with Soleimani. And just as he ultimately made the decision to indict Julian Assange, he made the ultimate decision to kill Gen. Soleimani.
It’s Reverse TDS to claim that pointing out Trump made the decision and boasted about it is TDS. Ridiculous. And we don’t know if it was actually the CIA that carried out the hit; the Pentagram issued all announcemens on the topic (not Langley) after it happened. Most likely some USAF drone contingent, aided by the CIA w/ Mossad help with tracking/targeting info.
From a headline: Israeli intelligence helped US carry out Soleimani’s assassination ‘by confirming which flight terror chief took to Iraq’ – and PM Benjamin Netanyahu was the ‘only American ally told about the mission’
I’m not sure if it’s Al Jazeera or Unz links that caused my more detailed comment on the matter to be flushed, so I won’t include any links here. Some excerpts, however:
Al Jazeera –

Trump’s first tweet was an American flag….

Mike Whitney at Unz (hardly a bastion of TDS): This is the nightmare scenario, the end of America brought to you by the two biggest dunderheads to ever to serve in public office: Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo.
Is there any way to stop this train-wreck?

As noted previously, all Presidents are manipulated or convinced into doing this type of thing; so Trump isn’t an outlier. But to absolve him of all blame for a) intentionally trying to start a war with Iran, and/or b) being stupid enough to let Pimpeous and whoever else convince him to do it is pure delusion, on par with any TDS I’ve ever seen.

The very fact that we cannot trust the US government to act as a single political agency even in matters of grand strategy is utterly devastating to witness. If it is true that now factions within the state apparatus are fighting turf wars which include this type of operation (i.e. murdering Soleimani without consulting Trump as the sitting President/CoC) then the self-destruction of the USofA is well advanced now, and not likely reversible anymore.
Either they’re lying consequentially, and this episode is pure maskirovka-style bogus; set up, or simply accepted as background noise helping with the waves of disinfo that are heaped onto everyone day in, day out. Do you believe it? I don’t, though it’s possible. – Or the disintegration into slimy blobs dwelling at a swampy pond has reached a stage where the essentials that any society needs are now smitten with abject failure, things like trust between people, the integrity of language itself, the possibility to find ansewers when you need some, and a mnodicum of compassion towards the ill and dying, the homeless, the tempest-tossed who roam the city sidewalks now, the traumatized veterans of criminal wars for power and preservation of egomanic delusion, etc etc – – –
It doesn’t matter anymore at this point for “the west”; it is fucked, truly and thoroughly. I have a hard time trying to imagine that such a bunch of miserable scum can pull off something, anything meaningful anymore where it really counts, domestically as well as internationally. This cart and horse is stuck in a swamp real big time. The last frontier of the US. What a sick and bitter joke.
All I can say from here is that I have not completely given up my trust that the USians may regather their mojo and sort this mess out. A young nation might have a bit off leeway against its own history to do the badly needed soul-searching.
Good luck, yankees. You’ll need it.

Possibly the same reason why the Norse settlements at Greenland became abandoned a few decades before.
Posted by: Norwegian | Apr 22 2024 15:25 utc | 208
The Norse arrived during the medieval warm period and were able to raise stock animals while they were hunting walrus ivory for export.
A lot of things came together in close proximity:
The plague in Europe cut them off from their market, Norway, 1300’s.
A drought and rise in sea level of ten feet.
The arrival/clash with the Inuit 1200’s.
Superior ivory from Africa (elephant tusk) being imported into Europe.
The beginning of a colder age with problems for crop yields (1250) and much more ice cutting off sea lanes.
I don’t think it’s really clear which straw broke the camels back. They changed their diet to mostly seal meat but last good evidence they were still there was year 1408.
Confirmation came in 1721 they had ceased to exist.
Was it one single cause or all of them or portions of each?
I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that was conclusive.

Most German Nazis went to Nuremberg of we sent to the Soviet Union. Other European Nazis though were given Asylum in the anglo countries and used against the Soviet Union.
The entire leadership class of the US do need to stand trial for their many crimes in a world court.
The average American? Much depends on who they want to attack I guess. Take a look at the average non nazi Ukrainian. US anglo empire is running out of Ukrainians.

An excellent take by the Duran on the political situation in Germany, the more the Quisling elites feel threatened the more they will double down and try to delegitimize their opponents (especially the AfD).
Sahra Wagenknecht and the new left in Germany
The CDU/CSU would just be more of the same, like the Blairite Labour Party. The German elite have set their nation on the path of decline and they will not turn back unless there is a political revolution. And even then the US bosses may intervene through the captured German secret service (the BND) and the media etc.

The Soviets properly de-Nazified the areas they took over. In the West the de-nazification drive pretty quickly ran out of steam. Half of the German government officials in the post-WW2 period were ex-Nazis, and of course many others found their way to the US, Argentina, Paraguay etc. To pop up in senior government positions. Most of the Nazi industrialists got off scot free, just like the family that controls BMW.
There is an excellent book “Blowback: The First Full Account of America’s Recruitment of Nazis and Its Disastrous Effect on The cold war, Our Domestic and Foreign Policy” by Christopher Simpson on the impact on the post-war period.

Hey barflies! I am at the end of my day and my brain is fried but I want to leave a question as I head off to sleep time.
Its looking like gold is in the process of being hammered down in price by almost $100/oz in the past 24 hours.
My question is how much big numbers we are talking to do such? My late night out of my ass guess is $100 billion.
This is a stupid move on behalf of empire because they are showing their scared and weak hand and it will whipsaw back on them, IMO.
What an interesting time to live.

Was it one single cause or all of them or portions of each?
I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that was conclusive.

Probably multiple causes as you describe. I suspect they disappeared because they migrated west and south to Vinland (North America).

I might be misremembering after so many decades, but I believe the great Canadian writer Farlay Mowat speculated that some of them ended up in Newfoundland where they were later known as ‘the old ones’. There are Viking settlements there for sure (upturned longboats used as winter longhouses). But it might have been only a few boatloads that made that passage and of no especial demographic import.

No reason for speculation, it is a well known fact that the Norse had permanent settlements at Newfoundland, specifically at L’Anse aux Meadows
It was the Norwegian explorer and writer, Helge Ingstad, along with his wife Anne Stine Ingstad who discovered that site in 1960.

It was much more than upturned longboats.

Realist or globalist, the only good American is a dead American
Pretty harsh. Understand the historical reference, but I wouldn’t say that about anyone from any country. The people in charge everywhere — save perhaps Russia? — clearly do not represent their constituents, but the masses take fairly drastic conditions in order to motivate them to force change. Case in point is Ukraine itself going to hell in a handbasket, yet half the country left rather than fix their government, with the rest either dying or ignorantly partying their ass off.
Interesting thing about America in particular is that there is a silent majority that’s quietly seething at DC. The pot is simmering and the temperature is rising.

Yeah, Helge Ingstad! I place him right up with Nansen, Amundsen and Otto Sverdrup.
A man of 3 centuries, (Dec. 30, 1899 – March 2001) he was an excellent author. His The Land of Feast or Famine is my favorite. It’s about his time spent in the northern parts of North America, alone and with native peoples. Like John Rae from Orkney, Ingstad was no sissy!
Agree that the evidence at L’Anse aux Meadows is conclusive. Norse!
But there is, (or was) speculation that it was Leif Erikson’s Vinland. I’m convinced it was not. Ed Reman is the author of a meticulous book on Vinland – The Norse discoveries and explorations in America which places Vinland in the Bay of Fundy/Passamaquoddy Bay area.
I’m surprised that no traces of these places were found by Admiral He’s voyages. /s
