Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
March 5, 2024
Ukraine – Cookie Monster Retires

A big fat rat is leaving the ship.

One might interpret this as the State Department's admittance of defeat in the U.S. war against Russia in Ukraine:

On the Retirement of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland – Anthony Blinken / State Department, Mar 5 2024

Victoria Nuland has let me know that she intends to step down in the coming weeks as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs – a role in which she has personified President Biden’s commitment to put diplomacy back at the center of our foreign policy and revitalize America’s global leadership at a crucial time for our nation and the world.

[I]t’s Toria’s leadership on Ukraine that diplomats and students of foreign policy will study for years to come. Her efforts have been indispensable to confronting Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, marshaling a global coalition to ensure his strategic failure, and helping Ukraine work toward the day when it will be able to stand strongly on its own feet – democratically, economically, and militarily.

President Biden and I have asked our Under Secretary for Management John Bass to serve as Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs until Toria’s replacement is confirmed.

Victoria Nuland, a member of the neo-conservative Kagan clan, is only 62 years old – too young to retire regularly.

She will be remembered for handing out cookies to anti-government demonstrators in Ukraine and for installing the 2014 coup regime.

That has been her main project in the State Department. But the 2014 Maidan putsch that turn the Ukraine into a battering ram against Russia, has ended in a complete failure.

bigger

Neither was Russia 'weakened' by the war nor has Ukraine any perspective to survive but as some Russian controlled land-locked backwater country in Europe's east.

Given that billions were spent on Ukraine with little controls and nothing to show for Nuland, and her family, have certainly made a bit on the side. One wonders if any of the ongoing and coming investigations into the black hole Ukraine will leave them unscarred.

As even Guardian commentators are now waking up to the mess they helped create it is high time for European politicians to also finally accept this reality:

Western Europe has no conceivable interest in escalating the Ukraine war through a long-range missile exchange. While it should sustain its logistical support for Ukrainian forces, it has no strategic interest in Kyiv’s desire to drive Russia out of the majority Russian-speaking areas of Crimea or Donbas. It has every interest in assiduously seeking an early settlement and starting the rebuilding of Ukraine.

As for the west’s “soft power” sanctions on Russia, they have failed miserably, disrupting the global trading economy in the process. Sanctions may be beloved of western diplomats and thinktanks. They may even hurt someone – not least Britain’s energy users – but they have not devastated the Russian economy or changed Putin’s mind. This year Russia’s growth rate is expected to exceed Britain’s.

The crass ineptitude of a quarter of a century of western military interventions should have taught us some lessons. Apparently not.

The vaunted southern offensive was about capturing Crimea. UK targeting Russia’s black sea fleet does seem to be towards the same goal. UK has a fixation on Crimea. Has had the fixation for several centuries.

Blinken: “It’s ‘Toria’s leadership on Ukraine that diplomats and students of foreign policy will study for years to come.”
I would describe that as a backhanded compliment, but I don’t believe Blinken has the capability for subtle remark. His “leadership” on Israel and Gaza will be “studied” for years to come as well.

I suggest barflies click the following link and take a good look at the map behind Medvedev as he gave his presentation at the World Youth Festival in Sochi yesterday, Ukraine is Russia. A long synopsis of his presentation is available here, “Crooke Elaborates with Judge Napolitano and Other Items”. To be sure, the map depiction was vetted and approved by Team Putin and isn’t some wild lark by Medvedev.
That will be the legacy of the criminal Victoria Nuland and three US Presidential Administrations, which could easily be expanded to five–from Clinton onwards. [Yes, one can argue it goes back to Truman/FDR.]

Another Russian ship destroyed in Crimea today. 3 Russian ships destroyed there recently. Expect these loses to continue until Russia ends this war by eliminating its enemy. Does that sound simplistic, trite, obvious? Then ship 4 is on the way down. Or “Russia will never run out of missiles and ships!”

‘UK has a fixation on Crimea. Has had the fixation for several centuries.’
Ever since the Irishman Peter Lacy captured it for the Russian Empire in the 1780s – Peter left Ireland after the Treaty of Limerick [which the English quickly broke in implementing the draconian Penal Laws – worse than what the Israels do to Palestinians] where he fought as a 14 year old …
A famous Russian General – he never lost a battle – his monument is in NW Crimea … rumours that he had a fling with Catherine the Great will remain until the 1000 year vault in the Kremlin is opened!

Karlof1@103….interesting map, but it’s still not far enough. The rump can always be used as an excuse to attack Russia. Obvious that any Ukraine outside Russia’s complete control, even neutral will present ongoing problems…. unfortunately the Brits are involved and they specialize in the divide and conquer and as none of their physical assets are in any danger, they’ll stick the dagger into Russia as long as they can get away with it. Russia, outside economic means is only capable of killing a few Brits here and there in 404, if they think that will deter them….

Vikki Nuland may only be 62, but she looks more like 70. Guess mass-murdering people is not beneficial to your appearance. Thugs like her are rare, but the US system always elevates the worst humans to leadership positions because these thugs serve the interests of a small group of extreme capitalists very well. She is just another corpse, same as the current US “president” and most of US Congress. Europe is no better, unfortunately. She’ll be replaced with another thug, same as Scholz if and when that cadaver is finally retired.

Update:
🇺🇸🏴‍☠️🇺🇦 The GRAVEDIGGER OF UKRAINE AND THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, will leave her post in the coming weeks, Blinken said.
Nuland is known not only for being one of the most cruel, ruthless and vile women in the world, but also for her visits to the Maidan in 2013-2014, where she distributed cookies to protesters, which became a meme of the “cookies of the State Department”.
▪️Ten years ago, she also got into a scandal when her phone conversation with the American ambassador to Kiev, Jeffrey Pyatt, was published online. They discussed in detail the formation of a new government of Ukraine, talked about which of the leaders of the local opposition should be included in its composition.
▪️In May 2019, it became known that Nuland was blacklisted in Russia in response to US anti-Russian sanctions.
▪️In 2022, she joked that it would be good if the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline pumped vodka instead of gas.

Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Would a Russian ship sunk in international waters matter….who would Russia blame? Until some NATO naval assets sink, I guess it’ll be SOP in the Black Sea.

This, I believe is exactly what is happening right now. I see the many articles on Unz.com and Zerohedge describing this very thing. State governments, factions in DC and rogue governors are reversing many dictats that were so woke in their actions. Even major companies are seeing the losses with customer indifference or boycotts as well as ESG ridiculousness. The resistance and even reversals when it comes to the Global Green Initiative is very telling too. Some writers believe that the Globalists/WEF crowd are seeing some negative results in their Great Reset. Time will tell of course….

Thanks bigly for this Nuland News, b. It hasn’t been mentioned once in what passes for “news” in Oz. And that includes the overseas News which has been approved for public consumption by our corrupt, lying politicians. In fact Nuland has rarely been mentioned in Oz since 2014. So she’s always been one of Oz’s Dirty Little (political) Secrets.
Anyhow, I tuned in to DW News to see what newly elevated anchor (the delicious) Sarah Kelly was nattering about – but nope, Nuland wasn’t on her agenda either.
She did however deliver a delightful piece of accidental comedy. DW got her to do a bit of creative China Bashing by pouring cold water on the current Chinese Peoples Congress. According to DW all of the decisions unvieled at the CPC have been decided in advance, behind closed doors, by the Communist Party!
Conveniently forgetting that if Germany had run its economy the way China’s economy is run, with 50+ years of end-to-end 5-year plans, Germany would probably still be a superpower and not the hollowed-out husk of an ex-superpower.

Maybe someone should tell England that force projection through surface vessels isn’t going to be a thing anymore. A Sarmat can knock on your door anywhere in the world. Best invest in some capable missile defense, and their offensive counterparts. That’s essentially all you need, as Houthis humbling of the ‘mighty’ US navy conclusively demonstrates.

Agree that the Kiev area is too much. But as some have written, the map is a message that shows Russia’s bargaining position. Of course, that bit of Ukraine would be DeNazified, Demilitarized and likely policed by SBU to ensure those two aspects remain; so, it wouldn’t be fully sovereign. And the debts would be declared odious.
Peter AU1 | Mar 5 2024 17:21 utc | 105–
Yes, those territorial concessions are aimed at undermining NATO, IMO, as to get those lands Poland and Romania would need to rid themselves of their NATO bases and membership, while some security treaty with Russia would also be inked. IMO, many Ukrainians would accept such an outcome instead of continuing to lose the conflict and suffer more losses.

Great summation. I think that’s quite clear to everybody that the US/UK/EU nuclear options are not that good. Old, unreliable nuclear infrastructure in the US AND with reports of silo techs now “coming down” with rad poisoning in some old sites shows that they don’t have a hope in hell. Russian bunkers, S-500 AD and much newer missiles especially non-nuclear hypersonics just gives them such an edge it’s not funny!

The neo-cons are on their way out.
Their influence in Washington has been a crucial element in the decline of the United States from hegemony to its current position as the leader of a bloc of sub imperialist powers without any geopolitical purpose but to hang on to Washington’s coat-tails.
Given that the US is going nowhere the position of its european allies, eager to fight on its behalf is an historic irony. They are following a leader who is going round in ever diminishing circles. Like Britain, described by Dean Acheson as having lost an empire without finding a new role, the US no longer has any idea of what it is doing in the wider world.
Those whose recall the splendid joys of isolation, minding their own business and growing rich will be returning to power, after almost a century in pursuit of Woodrow Wilson’s dreams. That is what, when all the rubbish and stupidity, racism and strutting has been stripped out, Trump signifies.
The last act in the decline of the US empire is the one being played out in the criminality of the proxy, and pointless, genocide that Nuland, Biden and Congress have fostered onto Israel.
It is a book-end to the other genocides at the beginning and throughout the course of American history- unlike the Phillipines, for example, this is happening in sight so plain that all the lies and propaganda in the world cannot obscure its reality.
And it profits the United States not at all. The genocide in Gaza, like the decades of support and the tens of billions of dollars poured into Israel has been a major cause of the US loss of power and influence.
Those who argue that the US benefits from Israel’s position as ‘an unsinkable aircraft carrier’ are deluding themselves: until Israel came along the US didn’t need an aircraft carrier in the middle east, it was surrounded by Arab allies eager to subordinate themselves to the Empire’s energy requirements and support for their reactionary rulers. Until Israel started provoking the anger of the masses against it, the US was secure in its position. Now it is on the verge of expulsion as the Iranian, Russian, Chinese alliance becomes the dominant force in west asia.
The question for Europeans is where this leaves them. They had an opportunity-numerous opportunities- after 1989 to mend their relations with Russia. And Russia was desperate for them to do so. Instead they fell deeper under US influence- the removal of the ‘Soviet threat’ instead of signalling the demise of NATO and the retreat of the US military from its bases and its command position over Europe’s armies, led to the expansion of the alliance from 15 to 31 members.
And then, for no reason that can be discerned, having swallowed up the Warsaw pact and the Baltic countries NATO shifted its gaze to Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia.
Why? For the reasons that planes switch to auto-pilot when the crew is too busy or otherwise engaged to work.
In this case the autopilot consisted of returning to the days of the Teutonic Knights and looking to the east for plunder and slaves. The corpse of the Soviet Union was still warm and there was a vast amount of loot to be taken still. Those days are long over- the prospect of favourable business patnerships (nordsteam for example) is no longer open for Europe. The chance of plunder after armed robbery has disappeared completely. NATO-31 members or not- is a paper tiger on its way to becoming a laughing stock.
Except, of course, to the real europeans, the ordinary people who have seen hundreds of billions of pounds sterling, for example, wasted over decades by governments acting in the interests of imperialism hollowing out economies and reducing living standards as the wealthy escape all taxes and other burdens except that of telling the hoi-poloi what to do. Europe’s rulers might have failed to plunder Russia but while attempting to do so they have comprehensively looted their own populations.

From TASS

5 MAR, 15:32
MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland is stepping down due to the failure of US President’s Joe Biden’s anti-Russian policies.
She was commenting after Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Nuland will leave her post in coming weeks.
“They won’t tell you the reason. But it is simple: the failure of the anti-Russian policies of the Biden administration. Russophobia, which was proposed by Victoria Nuland as the main US foreign policy concept, is making the Democrats sink like a stone. Well, with them already being at the bottom, it’s not letting them go up,” Zakharova wrote.
To go along with the message, the diplomat posted a photo of Nuland holding a candle during a visit to the Church of the Nativity in Odessa in 2014.
“By the way, remembering candles in Orthodox churches, if there is a sudden desire to go to a monastery to pray for forgiveness of sins, we will put in a good word,” the spokeswoman said.

While this is great news, lets not be fooled…….
There are plenty of other neo con fascists still floating around the US State Department who are graduates of the Soros University, namely Toni Blinken-sky and Wendy Sherman, and Toni continues to be the SoS, and Sherman one of the under – secretaries.
The triumpveraite of Blinken-sky, Nuland and Sherman engineered the 2014 Maidan Square coup and the attack on Odessa along with the CIA and MI6 black ops troops, that is for sure. You must remember that Nuland was active in the DOS during the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations, advocating for the War with Russia-NATO expansion at any cost process.
You can bet your new boots that Nuland will turn up in a Soros Foundation, most likely the Action for Democracy front group that Soros runs……..she and her evil friends are far from finished, they are just moving to new venues now that her Ukrainian plans are disintegrating.
Their short term goal now is to subvert the 2024 election and make sure that the Soros backed JRB is re-elected.
In a second JRB term Nuland will be Secretary of State………..gosh forbid!!

Perhaps the Russians are talking to the CIA directly and throwing cookie under the bus was just a show of good faith. Perhaps CIA wants an orderly evacuation of CIA and NATO assets from 404. You can see that removal of CIA agents from 404 would be a benefit to both Russia and the USA.

Barflies, let me produce the record of my recent venture into the “Geopolitical Analysists Prognostication Game” that is all the rage among longstanding MoAites; I’m sure have many here will have noticed my move. From barely a week ago:

World war 3 has already been lost. In hindsight it was one long war from 1914, and it was about who’d get to rule the world …

The unusually assertive tone on display here is me swinging my bowling ball about to strike a massive target of opportunity, wheeled onstage a few posts upthread from there by psychohistorian. I knew this would get me a killer return on points right there, too much to even cash in on them in a single night.
So tonight is a time for celebration, barflies! Your orders are on me, and don’t forget to put a dish of water for the dogs. Even the trolls are invited! Let us drink until I start claiming that my own analysis was what finally convinced the US War Room to give up; then we shall all go home, and return to celebrate another day!

She, like all the rats, knows what’s coming down the pike, and has no intention hanging around waiting for her political ‘head’ to be on a pikestaff. If I was a betting man I’d think she’d done a deal with the likely incoming administration to leave quietly and promise not to interfere, in exchange for being allowed to waddle away to charge exorbitant fees to her fellow and wannabe Neo-cons, on the, ‘wasn’t I wonderful’, lecture circuit. No doubt a suitably big chair in a poison Ivy-league university also beckons, perhaps regarding international relations.

Victoria and the neo-con clan are said to thirst for revenge for the Russian pogroms. But the pogroms happened under Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian administrations. Could it be this exact outcome – nearly a million dead Slavs from the peoples who drove them out – that they sought under the guise of destroying Russia?

Posted by: Trumpeter | Mar 5 2024 19:05 utc | 175

Lets not forget that Nuland, then serving in the Clinton DOS was a key player in the war again Serbia in 1995-1999 in which she pushed hard for NATO attacks on the Serb Republic of Krajina, and the Serb Republic of Bosnia and on Serbia itself during the Kosovo War. In fact the Serb Republic of Krajina was over-run and destroyed in the NATO “Operation Storm” in August 1999, and Serb Bosnia was directly attacked in order to support jihadi backed forces. NATO aircraft bombed Serb air bases, and army concentrations in Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo. Luckily Serb Bosnia survived but still has NATO occupation troops oppressing the Serb government with threats of intervention…..they are still flying cover for terrorist jihadis.
Nuland is not only responsible for 500,000 Ukrianian KIA’s and thousands of Russian KIA’s but also responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Serb civilians too. She is a war criminal in every single sense of the world……

Posted by: Elmagnostic | Mar 5 2024 17:24 utc | 107
While I’m sure the Russians would like to keep all their ships I’m not so sure the losses to the Black Sea fleet are especially damaging to the Russians.
Recently they lost a patrol boat, a corvette and an old Soviet era amphibious assault ship they were most recently using to store ammo in.
I’m not sure I would catagorize that as a strategic loss. Yes the patrol boat and the corvette can carry 12 land attack missiles between them but Russia has many more missile platforms on land sea and air. Russia won’t miss the amphibious assault ship and it’s the kilo’s, anti-shipping aircraft and shore based missile batteries that are Russia’s primary naval warfare assets in the Black Sea and they’re untouched.
It’s good for moral though.

These are strategic losses because of the slowly degrading power of RF at sea and in the air. The second is of course due to the losses of the A50 planes.
NATO is picking at the defense forces around the front and testing how they can implement their plan to attack Russia. It is with stealth planes and other means to avoid air defense and strike with many many missiles at assets within Russia.
After the loss of the Moskva, the snake island, a few oil platforms and the A50 – all with powerful radars, RF no longer has control of the sea and can be attacked from that direction with all kinds of below the horizon assets.
Of course, this will slowly happen. Not all at once. Just slow escalation like we are seeing now. In a few months, losses like this ship will be a daily occurrence.
RF has gained the upper hand in the land war but at the expense of control of the Black Sea. Maybe that is part of the strategy as if you take the land and coast, it will become very difficult for NATO to attack Russian assets with plausible deniability like they do now. But it seems to me that this land war is too slow to prevent the loss of the Black Sea fleet and other assets. I am not sure how Russia can deal with this situation.

So, the Notorious Nuland is slipping off into the night. Interesting timing it seems. It has been speculated that the leak of the German Taurus missile discussion likely originated from US sources – those who have the most extensive and competent electronic surveillance network and could intercept ‘secure’ conversations originating within Germany as well as insecure ones like the Singapore CISCO wifi link. (foreign intelligence knowing that the German in Singapore was going to sign in over hotel wifi for a relatively short conversation seems a stretch). Perhaps there is considerable discord and debate behind the scenes, with the downing of the il76 being used for the prisoner exchange by US supplied Patriot system, the leak of the long standing CIA involvement in Ukraine directed against Russia, the fall of Avdeevka and the firing of Zaluzhny being only the latest signs of discord and disarray troubling US Ukraine policy (not to mention the loss of carte blanche congressional support for Ukraine funding following the failed summer counter-offensive and the infighting within the EU over how best to keep the sinking ship afloat). Perhaps the US is trying to figure out how to extract itself from the situation without triggering a nuclear exchange (we don’t need the Germans adding fuel to the trash fire, so best to help them torpedo their idiocy with the leak), and Ms Nuland had nothing constructive to offer in this regard.
Seems Kiev is throwing reserves into the fight hoping to gain time for some outside help to be agreed upon and arrive, but likely this will only hasten their doom as the prospective knight on the white horse gets bogged down in bureaucratic mud and infighting.

A good sign, after Macron´s and other tiny and insignificant actors´ warmongering bravados and the German leak?
She was, highly likely, an untolerable presence in the coming negotiations of a settlement with Russia…
The Russians may have banned her sure presence at the table, as undersecretary of state, due her criminal responsabilities in the Ukrainian carnage and her pssible presence in Moscow, where she would have been detained under criminal charges….
The European people should also be considering suing this monster after seeing their economies ruined and their health destoryed by the actions of this witch and the governments on whose behalf she has acted…..Reparations on the part of the US and accomplices states shgould be paid to the Ukrainian and European peoples for the ruin and destruction provoked…

I think both can be true. Tucker definitely started his career as a(n actual and/or effective) mouthpiece for CIA interests. His father had direct CIA ties. I think at some point he went “off the reservation” – likely when he realized he could make more money flouting CIA narratives than pushing them. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that about a month or so after he started questioning the Ukraine project he was ousted for a fake claim, made by a woman he’d never even met in person (or even on a videoconference I think) of creating a “hostile work environment” for women or some such BS.

Russian MOD:
Russian air space control over the Black Sea detected three aerial targets flying towards the State border of the Russian Federation.
To prevent the violation of the State border of the Russian Federation, a Su-27 fighter jet from the air defense duty forces was scrambled.
The crew of the Russian fighter identified the aerial targets as an E-3F airborne early warning and control aircraft and two Rafale-C multirole fighters of the French Air Force.
As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign military aircraft turned away from the State border of the Russian Federation and left the airspace over the Black Sea.
The Russian aircraft safely returned to its home airfield. There was no violation of the State border of the Russian Federation.
The flight of the Russian fighter was conducted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters without crossing air routes and without dangerous proximity to aircraft of a foreign state.
