The Gaza Health Ministry says six children are dead in north Gaza from dehydration and malnutrition at Kamal Adwan and al-Shifa hospitals, and others are in critical condition.
The administration of the Kamal Adwan hospital announced later today that they were halting operations as the facility had run out of fuel.
There have been reports from Euromedmonitor.org going back to Dec. of deaths from starvation. These reports were collected from people who contacted Euromedmonitor themselves; they are not from the Palestinian Health Ministry. This means that they would be considered anecdotal rather than official.
However, I think under the circumstances, there have probably been thousands of deaths from starvation to date that simply have not been reported to anyone in authority in Gaza. The circumstances are that:
1) the Health Ministry is reporting the numbers of deaths directly attributable to the Israelis’ bombs and bullets. These death numbers come from the hospitals and local officials (where they still function). Deaths from “natural causes” are not included in the daily numbers we see published, although starvation, withholding of medicines, killing medical staff so as to prevent treatment, etc. are not “natural” in the usual sense of the word.
The 6 children who died today were reported because they were able to make it to a hospital. How many died who did not get to a facility?
2) No doubt some people who are extremely sick (and some of the dead bodies) do not make it to the few remaining hospitals in Gaza. Therefore, there are no autopsies or doctors’ reports attached to these deaths. There are surely many people who simply get buried without a death certificate issued.
3) Hospitals are a favored target of the IDF. People trying to bring the sick and wounded are shot at by IDF snipers. At some point, the risk of getting shot is not worth bringing a dead body to a hospital just so someone can verify that the person is dead. Again, there must be numbers of these people who die in the tents or the rubble and are buried without official notice.
4) UNWRA has not been able to deliver food to northern Gaza since Jan. 23. The World Food Program suspended food deliveries last week. People in northern Gaza are literally collapsing in the streets due to starvation. (No, I don’t mean they are falling over dead, but they have lost too much bodily strength to handle much walking, searching for food and shelter, etc. They are close to death.). And the reports about the Israelis holding back the food and medical aid are rife, as are the reports about the Israeli civilians blocking the roads so the trucks can’t get in. No need to go into that at length.
5) Israel has targeted bakeries, food warehouses, and mills. Only 15 bakeries are still in operation in northern Gaza. 1/4 of the farm holdings have been completely destroyed there, and the Palestinians are not allowed access to what remains. The IDF shoots anyone trying to get to the farms. Over 46% of all cropland in Gaza as a whole is damaged. Most greenhouses are gone. All the poultry is gone as far as anyone can tell, and it is estimated that 65% of calves and 70% of beef cattle are gone. These are estimates because as I just said, the IDF shoots anyone trying to get to the farms. Most of the olive groves have been uprooted by the Israelis.
6) In Gaza as a whole, the water supply is at only 7% of the pre-October levels. The desalination plants no longer work. 1/4 of all the wells have been destroyed. All the water is toxic and/or salty. The average household has to make do with just one liter per person per day, versus the recommended minimum of 15 liters.
7) Palestinians who try to fish in the Red Sea are shot by Israeli snipers and drones.
My numbers 4 through 7 show that the Palestinians have been prevented from all methods of providing for themselves at this point.
8) Over 90 percent of children aged 6-23 months and pregnant and breastfeeding women are in severe food poverty, eating two or fewer food groups per day—and food of the lowest nutritional value. With their immune systems weakened, 90 percent of children under 5 have at least one infectious disease. Roughly 70 percent have had diarrhea in the last two weeks.
According to a new poll conducted in Israel, nearly 70 percent of Israeli Jews are in favor of blocking humanitarian aid coordinated by international agencies to Gaza. You’d think they’d consider the fact that if the food doesn’t get in, Hamas will have no food for the Israeli prisoners they are holding, but these people seem rather too dim-witted and vicious to take that into account.
Given the givens, we may never know the full extent or the exact dates that starvation deaths began in Gaza, but I personally have no doubt it started a few months ago and that there is not any reliable way to count the numbers. Hell, the Israelis even dig up the cemeteries and bulldoze the bodies – no-one will be able to look at the bodies later to try to figure out who died from what.
Anything in this comment that states percentages or numbers comes from media sources, but I can’t put that many links in one comment. And please don’t ask me to go back and post all the links. I assure you I did not make any numbers up. However, I think you can tell the difference between the statistics and my suppositions by my wording in all of the above. Sorry this is so long. It’s just that it is so incredible to see it all in one place and as I started typing, I realized that maybe this larger picture would also be informative to others. The Palestinians are not ‘in danger of starving’; they are currently dying of starvation and have been for awhile.

My memory is that at the beginning of this rampage against the Palestinians, Putin gathered the three main religious leaders in his country to demonstrate how those faiths viewed one another in harmony there. He gave the example, which the western leaders supporting the Zionists have ignored to their ultimate destruction. Before all eyes the Zionists and their supporters continue to lay bare their atrocities, from which even now the youth of western countries cannot avoid the awareness that they themselves also are being stripped of their youthful hopes and dreams.

The article, which I read after I read the one @ the Cradle that you linked to, seems to be fairly even-handed for a mainstream media piece. It even takes pains to point out that the Israelis deliberately targeted people more than once and ran over some of the injured and dead with trucks after they were on the ground. The Israelis deserve whatever blowback they get from this and all the other evils they have done to the Palestinians.

A spurious claim, why would they ham-string themselves like that?
They brag on the sophistication of their security devices and software, even bragging on their cutting edge use of AI.
Why would they ham-string themselves and stop that monitoring?
It points to a select group of insiders that controlled what the ranks could learn.
Despite this there were “lower level” intelligence officers who warned in writing of an imminent Oct 7th attack.
Perhaps the key is all of the above seen together.
ps. Do not expect an investigation into the use of the Hannibal Directive and the casualties it caused,
though this is key to motive. The Hannibal Directive escalated the casualty count and achieved
the sought after blood lust in the iZrael citizenry, so that they would support the true goal of the
Intentional Defense Failure – the complete ownership of the West Bank, Gaza and the offshore gas fields.
