re cynic 94 — I’m still honing my skills to write english. At times, something slips. Die Zeit does know all about this; I won’t say more. And in fact, I gave her a full access to the clothes of my own collection; her choosings she took in a red leather suitcase I gifted her as well. Or maybe it was leatherette. So take my apologies here, also because yes, she’s a cutie; a gymnast, too. She had been in line for training as a tabletennis pro for a while, until doctors diagnosed a very slight imbalance in her muscle-sceletar build. She was like 14 back then. Sure, it’s a highly regarded school in Petersburg where this happend; but then, that woman from Kiev had been trained in professional swimming as a pupil, too. Her eyes still lighten up when she talks about this to this day.

Note to all MoA grammar Nazis: you’re welcome to advise my use of english! It is a highly enjoyable language for me, it’s always been, but surely posting here semi-regularly is a next step for me, and I’m eager to learn.

I talked about “pro sports” above; but the term actually used by the russians is olympic sports. A very telling detail! methinks.

In the big bad world it currently seems to be business as usual in the new normal of the geopolitical hybrid war.
So back to my interest in the past.

Oceania
The oldest inferred watercraft of 44,000-50,000 years ago, was sufficient to bring numerous
‘immigrants’ to Sahul, but was presumably not capable of supporting colonization of the Pacific
Islands at that time. Those early settlers travelled on land and probably by coastal navigation to
occupy the entire Sahul landmass in a relatively short time. By 40,000 years ago the main parts of
this land were occupied and a little later Tasmania (then part of the mainland). The Solomon Islands
and Buka Island, some 180km distant from the then occupied New Ireland and New Britain, were
reached about 30,000 years ago. This was nearly three times the distance of the initial crossing from
Sunda to Sahul. The new island communities must have retained, and in time replaced, their boats
as it was vital to keep the connection with other people for the long term viability of the islands’
populations. Again, we don’t know how, or from what materials, these boats were made.

A somewhat outdated paper due to ice core temperature history as Aboriginal people traveled to Australia before what is known as Sahul (Tas Australia NG) existed and sea levels were presumably much higher, similar to today.
Earliest dated finds (to date) in the Americas do coincide with very low sea levels and the existence of Sahul.
Australian people crossed short stretches of sea to reach Australia 50,000 years ago or more. The earliest remains in the Americas is 15-20,000 years later so I would assume boat building and navigation would have advanced in that period.
Earliest maps of the southern oceans used by European explorers were derived from much early maps, presumably from the MENA area. These maps showed Australia as a land mass though somewhat different outline to modern maps, but indicate those earlier map makers knew about Australia.
Polynesian navigation and boat building. How far does that go back? Polynesians populated the pacific with blue water navigation 3500 years ago. When first seen by the Dutch or Portuguese, the outrigger canoes with sails were far faster than European sailing craft, being quite capable of 20 Knots in a light wind.
South American technology appears to have been lagging MENA technology by some thousands of years which gives time for those technologies and cultural aspects and so forth to travel around the warm belt in a then colder world via ocean going craft perhaps continued on and off as ocean levels rose.
By the book archaeology says similar or the same technologies developed independently of each other in various parts of the world, perhaps due the the belief that ocean travel is only a relatively recent phenomena. But much points them them spreading from the original point of development, some being repeated exactly the same, some developing with local characteristics on the original technology.
Wood and vegetable fiber traces are rare finds past a few thousand years ago. On Dogger Bank, both stone and bone tools are sometimes dredged up by fisherman. Dredging now underwater islands, particularly flat topped features for artifacts would likely shed some light on early sea travel.
Australian aboriginal short sea travel over 50,000 years ago, Göbekli Tepe 13,000 years – at or just before the earliest dated copper smelting in the region and at the start of the great turbulence of the climate changes that were to occur…
Monolithic stone building seems to span that era of great climate change and also span the era of sometime before and sometime after the technology of copper tools…
Stones capturing majic rays? I would assume a a major PPE requirement for working in a facility like that would be tin foil helmet and protective clothing but no evidence of that around those earliest sites. So unlikely they were used for capturing majic rays.
The story of Noah, one of the earliest oral histories to be put down in writing. Obviously relates to an island and sea level rising – I think probably the Persian gulf but could be the Med or the Black sea. Another place to dredge underwater features for artifacts.
Oral histories for the most part only go back to that period of cataclysmic climate change.
I sometimes watch a British video channel ‘Timeline’. One particularly interesting show was excavating and finding a site dating back several thousand years based purely on the still locally known oral history there.
Oral history takes us back from the earliest writing to the time of great climate change, but beyond that is only stone and occasional bone artifacts.

I don’t remembered Gordon’s posts on that, but it has always been my thought as well. I have often thought if I were young with a young family I would move to eastern Russia – though to be eligible to become a citizen and acquire some land I would first have to survive the frontline in the war against the empire of lies not that I wouldn’t be keen on firing a actual few shots at empire and its proxies. Not so much against the brainwashed fools but against the nazis, mercs and ‘advisors’.

Tucker Carlson Interview with President Vladamir Putin
I found a number of Gilbert Doctorow’s points about this interview to be of interest, so I append a section of his comments below.
Link to Doctorow → Doctorow Link
Putin’s explanation of why he chose to invade should have started with the year 2008, when the U.S. insisted that NATO offer membership to Ukraine. After all, the trigger for the war in February 2022 was the refusal of the United States to negotiate on Russia’s demand that Ukraine remain neutral and that NATO pull back to its 1996 borders. Note that after one hour of the interview Putin himself says this, but I believe it is too late and many who came to Tucker’s platform will not have stayed with it long enough to hear this.
In the same vein, Putin never answered Tucker Carlson’s reasonable question as to why, knowing as he did that modern Ukraine is an ‘artificial state’ concocted by Lenin and his associates in 1922 to satisfy their own needs to consolidate power throughout what had been the Russian Empire, knowing as he did that the Russian speakers in the Donbas were being persecuted before 2014 and were being bombed and shelled after 2014, why did he wait so long to move against the regime in Kiev. Fair question, I might add, as I poke back at some readers who insisted that Carlson is just an ignorant clown.
The answer is available and well known among Russia’s foreign policy professionals: Putin could not dare act until Russia’s armed forces were sufficiently modernized and strengthened, until the Russian economy was made similarly robust to survive any threats coming from the West should Russia forcefully push for regime change in Kiev. That moment arrived in 2018 when Putin announced to the world the serial production of strategic arms including hypersonic missiles that put Russia years ahead of the USA and presented a window of opportunity to act. Meanwhile conventional weapons of superior quality were being delivered to the armed forces and the economy was being readied for the most severe sanctions, beginning with the ‘import substitution’ programs launched in 2014. I do not see why setting out these real motivations on air to the American public was not done.

@denk, #105:
I believe Ted Cruz understands American far better than you. TAM being a hoax is not known to the vast majority of Americans (oh Europeans too), so Cruz’s stupid questions towards TikTok Zhou appears to most, most, most Americans as being anti-China. Now, right now being anti-China equates with being American patriotism. He does this kinds of stuff to win votes and boost his public image.
You don’t understand that the average American is burning with intense envy against anything Chinese. They love to hear this kind of tirades, lies or otherwise. 90+% of American politicians play this game every chance they get.

Xinhuanet has a posting up with the title
Munich Security Conference opens with focus on improving global order
https://english.news.cn/20240217/4677c12cb99942d3844e8132781f04c1/c.html
The quote

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his opening speech that today’s global order is not working for everyone. “In fact, I would go further and say it’s not working for anyone.”
The global community is “more fragmented and divided than at any time during the past 75 years,” he said, noting that the world is facing nuclear danger, the climate crisis, and the risks stemming from Artificial Intelligence.
Guterres referred to this year’s edition of the Munich Security Report published on Monday, which warned of the “lose-lose dynamics” of inter-governmental interactions amid growing geopolitical tensions and rising economic uncertainty.
The mentality of prioritizing relative payoffs may spur these lose-lose dynamics while jeopardizing cooperation and undermining the international order, the report noted.
“Global governance in its present form is entrenching divisions and fueling discontent,” Guterres said. “We must work for solutions based on justice, with renewed urgency and solidarity.”

Aboriginal indigenous occupation 60K to 80k years BP.
The findings on about 11,000 artefacts from Kakadu national park, published on Thursday in the journal Nature, prove Indigenous people have been in Australia for far longer than the much-contested estimates of between 47,000 and 60,000 years, the researchers said. Some of the artefacts were potentially as old as 80,000 years.
“It also means the time of overlap with the megafauna, for instance, is much longer than originally thought – maybe as much as 20,000 or 25,000 years. It puts to rest the idea that Aboriginal people wiped out the megafauna very quickly.”

This page is for the original inhabitants of this land, who have lived here for more than 60,000 years. Latest news in is that researchers have apparently laid claim to carbon 14 dating etc of aboriginal cave paintings (near Kakadu in the Northern Territory), aging them at least to 60,000 years BC!!!!!!!

THE QUESTION OF THE ORIGINS and antiquity of Australian Aboriginal people goes back
to the very beginning of the science of biogeography. Alfred Russel Wallace, in his paper
‘On the varieties of man in the Malaya Archipelago’ read to the Ethnological Society of
London in 1865, rejoiced that one of the implications of the evolutionary theory was that
now one had ‘the permission . . . to place the origin of man at an indefinitely remote epoch
. . . and we can speculate more freely on the parentage of tribes and races’ (Wallace 1865,
209-10).

In one case, the Devil’s Lair site in southwest Australia, the methodology has clearly removed vestiges
of contamination by more modern carbon and has led to a revised radiocarbon chronology that provides evidence for human occupation of southwest Australia by at least 44 ka BP and probably by 46–47 ka BP.

Science Research Papers
Human occupation of northern Australia by 65,000 years ago
July 2017 Nature 547(7663):306-310
Here we report the results of new excavations conducted at Madjedbebe, a rock shelter in northern Australia. Artefacts in primary depositional context are concentrated in three dense bands, with the stratigraphic integrity of the deposit demonstrated by artefact refits and by optical dating and other analyses of the sediments. Human occupation began around 65,000 years ago, with a distinctive stone tool assemblage including grinding stones, ground ochres, reflective additives and ground-edge hatchet heads. This evidence sets a new minimum age for the arrival of humans in Australia, the dispersal of modern humans out of Africa, and the subsequent interactions of modern humans with Neanderthals and Denisovans.

NATURE JOURNAL Article

65,000-years of continuous grinding stone use at Madjedbebe, Northern Australia
Excavations at the site of Madjedbebe recovered Australia’s (if not one of the world’s) largest and longest records of Pleistocene grinding stones, which span the past 65 thousand years (ka). Microscopic and chemical analyses show that the Madjedbebe grinding stone assemblage displays the earliest known evidence for seed grinding and intensive plant use, the earliest known production and use of edge-ground stone hatchets (aka axes), and the earliest intensive use of ground ochre pigments in Sahul (the Pleistocene landmass of Australia and New Guinea). The Madjedbebe grinding stone assemblage reveals economic, technological and symbolic innovations exemplary of the phenotypic plasticity of Homo sapiens dispersing out of Africa and into Sahul.

Ted Cruz is your classic anti-communist Cuban emigre of rich parents who reflexively hates any communist regime. The average American is not “burning with intense envy against anything Chinese” in fact there has been widespread anti-China propaganda needed to change the generally positive view that Americans had of China a decade ago. This is classic “manufacturing consent” and you are just spreading oligarchic propaganda.
The average American is being doused in a daily dose of “hate China” messages from the MSM, the Mainstream Alternative Media, and social media – fully organized and driven by the US oligarchy who are threatened by a Party-state that does not allow for the capitalist class domination that they enjoy in the US. Once it was obvious that China would not “open up” and surrender to the US capitalist class the media and political messages started to change. Manufacturing consent for war with China.

This looks to be the nuts ande bolts of it –

While Turner is a staunch supporter of the aid package for Ukraine, the evidence suggests that his gambit regarding the release of intelligence about an emerging Russian anti-satellite capability has nothing to do with Ukraine, and everything to do with a new U.S. satellite system currently being deployed which serves as the foundation upon which the entire future war-fighting capability of the United States is built.”

Trump’s space force. I doubt US intel for whatever that is worth has been compromised. CIA/Pentagon are looking for an excuse they can put to the American peasantry.

The Ecuadorian elite are full on rapacious oligarchs who have trashed all the progress made during Correa’s leadership while also integrating with the narco-capitalists. Ecuador is now very much like Peru. At some point the massively increased levels of crime may be reduced as narco activities become better managed by the oligarchs. There is no going back now, the oligarchs have utterly destroyed the low crime and improving life of the majority in two presidential terms. That they value their banana exports above sucking up to the Yankee even more does not surprise me.
The Mexican government of course made the huge mistake of unsettling the managed narco capitalism at the behest of the Americans, and societal chaos ensued. Its almost as if the Americans wanted it that way …

Posted by: Roger | Feb 17 2024 16:45 utc | 125

After seeing Alex Jones back on Twitter and reading some of his posts it reminded me that he is just another servant of the oligarchs, just like so many of the right-wing “alternative” media. One commenter called it the “Mainstream Alternative Media”, part of a two pronged approach to propagandistically beat any understanding of the real world out of our heads and divide and conquer the population; the MSM and the MSAM.
So I started with a piece on Mr. Jones which then spread into many other parts of the MSAM, all doing their best to blind us with bullshit wrapped around kernels of truth – well designed to divide and conquer the population. The “left” has race-grifters and the “right” has race-baiters ad infinitum.
The Mainstream Alternative Media
Dividing and conquering just like the MSM

There are still some reliable truly alternative outlets left, such as B and a number of the commenters on this site (although an increasing amount of chaff has to be waded through nowadays), but it is dwindling as the oligarchs (and the Zionist state) co-opt, bribe, threaten, ban and even jail and financially destroy the truth tellers.

What about AIPAC? Are they ranking servants of the Rothschild empire in Israel – an empire with trillions of dollars, who have had monopolies on the west’s energy & banking for centuries? Are they the clever creators of the juvenile sex honey trap black mail operations that have apparently ensnared a majority of the US congress, UK parliament, Japan & NATO officials & turned them into servants of Lord Rothschild’s operation? Is that empire trying to expand, via mass propaganda, fear mongering with boogeymen, endless dumb down, divide & conquer strategies, pipelines thru Syria, control of the petroleum of Venezuela, Palestine, etc? Are Rothschild & his chief servants (with representative$ in all western intel agencies) struggling in desperation to cling to their power – finding that their old solutions are no longer working? Are men who constantly lie & help screw the people, in touch with reality?
Analysts are urged to consider that ~2000 years ago western humanity was much like herds of unthinking animals who needed shepherds, than now. Most of us were illiterate and only a few were beginning to think. The ruling elite worked practically invisibly, from behind the scenes, thru their actors in the church & state – both then & now.
Now, most of us can read, & many are beginning to think! While many of us are much more emotional than mental & prefer to follow the leader/shepherd without questioning them, half or more of us are sick & tired of being led by shepherds who have the understandable, but out dated habit of treating the people like dumb, blind, easily controlled herds of cattle.
Many people are recognizing the importance of studying the facts surrounding situations, connecting the dots, and using logic while searching for solutions to the world’s problems -that our politicians – like actors in a mafia state – who see the problems as wonderful cash cows, not problems.
The old shepherds/ruling elite don’t understand the situation, and don’t want to let go of their prestige & power over the people.
Their resistance is 100% understandable & futile. The blind lead the blind. Just because many can’t or haven’t seen something that others have, is not proof that “IT” does not exist. Eventually, everyone will recognize/see that the same intelligence that created our solar system & every natural thing in it, know what They’re doing, and have a definite, unalterable plan for our planet – which is essentially a school, where conflict & crises are essential to our learning.
The best IS yet to come, but it won’t come easy. Eventually food, shelter, healthcare and education will be guaranteed rights of everyone, everywhere. BRICS nations are in the vanguard. Those struggling against evolution/human development & very big changes – to benefit the people, rather than a ruling elite, are acting like ignorant fools, on the wrong side of history.
These next 3,000+ years will be known as a golden era, prophesi

The responsibility for the widespread misery to be found today in every country in the world, lies predominantly at the door of certain major interrelated groups of businessmen, bankers, executives of international cartels, monopolies, trusts and organisations, and directors of huge corporations, who work for corporate or personal gain. p. 70/1 — Alice Bailey, The Problems Of Humanity (1944)

Dear Juliania:
If you read Plato’s Politeia as a Socrates’ didactical tool to make the people think about how to think, you are missing the point.
All the thinkers who you call “Sophiste” were trying to make the point clear: the measures of the humans are, just, phanthaie and figments, meanwhile you are unable to understand the causes of our existence. Talking about what we don’t know is futile.
Plato was a man of the elite: he never had to struggle with the soldiers, as Socrates did. He was involved in 403 BC, with the mess of The Thirty, by family. He flew, in 390 BC to Siracuse, in order to convince the tyrant to make the things right. Just, politics.
There are 1000s modern interpretations about what Plato was trying to convey. The soul? The Good? Plato, The Teacher, was the best guy who begun the dialectics, how we must think about the substance and the behaviour to be humans the behaviour.
Nah, Plato is relevant because he is the first, in the West, who repeats the notions of “kA and “Ba”: there is something (psyche) that comes from pneumé (ruasch) . We don’t remember because we don’t have the protocol: anamsesis.
If you think that Plato was talking about teaching his alumni, you has miss the point. Plato was trying to make the people think about their engraved believes: that’s why Socrates goes mad with the mythological past, and at the same time, he is prone to recognize the value of the past. This contradiction is the problem: Plato was wrong in Modern’ readings. The soul is many more that the Plato’s psyche. But he was talking about something he was conscious about: there is something in our guts, and something in out chest, an something in our brain that is beyond our material existence.
That is the point: the people must go again to the cave because if the philosophic king is not able to retract the pain, he is not a king, he is no a human who try to help our mess.

Plato says that: Socrates was in introspection. With his daemon. There are many testimonios of people who saw something rare in the Socrates’ behaviour. Not only that his body movements were a very tik tak to say “if you want to say something, do it”. Socrates was a guy who, indeed, his commons thought that it was better not to makes around. He was in the army as a guy fighting around the mess of 429: he was as a hoplite, infantry, but he did finish in the terrible war (413) between Atena and Sparta (It’s very clear that Socrates who was born in 469, was in military conflicts long before the Plato’ family). When Socrates was 40 years old, Aristo (beles), Plato, 449 BC, was born.
When Socrates did drink the Cikuta, Plato was out because he was terrified. Plato was out because his implication with his uncle was a problem in 399 . Crisias was his uncle, and Plato was involved in the mess of the 403, the thirties. The things were really bad, and Plato was involved, because the philosophical kings were politics. That is why Aristophanes is always, in the comedy “The Nimbs”, call Socrates and Plato “sophiste”, not different of the people who wants to make money by making the Greek jouth the object of a new cult.

Koori. Who are they?
Some time back when Land rights was the big thing, urban aboriginals were arguing over their borders. Everything had been forgotten – language culture, border markers ect. With development, many landmarks would have been erased but they didn’t even know where the natural landmarks were located. Then there was much in the media on urban aboriginals relearning their language, their culture. How can a language, many languages be relearned? Easy. Very early on, a Brit I assume, studied the language of a nation near Sydney and wrote it down. Forget what they were called. There were many different tribes and nations in NSW and Vic, but they now the great latter day Koori nation. Utter bullshit. Woke bullshit.
Urban aboriginals are those in the urban and closer settled areas, farmlands and so forth. Aboriginal people are still found in the remoter areas, the pastoral grazing lease region and beyond into the desert. Many still live according to their laws, all know their language and boundary markers and the elders still know their oral history.
This term urban aboriginals separates those who have lost all that from those that still have it. I don’t say it in a denigrating way but over the years they have developed a fringe dweller culture. Few have as much as 50% aboriginal DNA and like gender, there are also many clowns who ‘identify’ as Aboriginal.
Fringe culture was forced on them, but I’m not sure fictional history, fictional culture, like the Ukro nazis is the way to go.

Makes sense.
1) congress is not in session until April, so saying it is a push for funding makes no sense, they would have done so in April or before congress took a vacation.
2) They always accuse other of that which they are doing.

The flashy format, interactive media, functionality and high server bandwidth surely proves this site has major funding behind it. A site like this would take at least $2.4M to $4.95M a week to run, according to sources familiar with the subject who wish to remain anonymous due to personal safety.

Greenland icecore map. Only 20,000 years but a work in progress, very detailed.

Only large image I could bring up but has the long addy.
This one much smaller but goes back nearly 500,000. The latest antarctic core goes back 800 but shows the same pattern.
http://glaciatedlandscapes.weebly.com/uploads/6/0/1/3/60132437/2463016_orig.gif
On that you can see the squiggly line of the current Holocene period as compared to past internationals. We are yet to peak up to reach temperatures of the past interglacials but due to the time period may instead drop back into the next glacial period.
From the detailed Greenland map, you can see we are in an extended 6-700 year cold period in the holocene. The only time it dropped lower was just a sharp downward spike 8200 years ago. This extended cold period is quite different from the sharp ups and downs of the holocene prior.
Although we are in a cold period (average high 4 degrees higher, average about two degrees higher for the holocene), if we get a bit of rain, true believers scream climate change, if we get a hot day, true believers scream climate change.
The blob says current climate change is purely man made. Indigo Jones who developed a reputation for accurate long range forecasts says that’s bullshit. The holocene has shown a normal variation of four degrees. the repetive glace interglacial cycling show a variation on average of about 25 to 30 degrees.
Nowhere in the climate change religion is there any attempt to separate natural from man made change.

Nowhere in the climate change religion is there any attempt to separate natural from man made change.

I looked into the climate change business a couple of times, once in the 80’s and then again about fifteen years ago. Each time I got to your final point above. Am not a scientist, but as far as I can tell the reason they don’t make the ‘attempt’ is because current science lacks the method or means to distinguish between the two. At all.
That being the case, every conclusion about anthropogenic climate change is suspect and much more so, in spades, for any plans they come up with to remediate or stop the problem. All that stuff is dangerous rubbish. And certainly not ‘science’ or ‘fact-based’.
As far as I can tell, the main function of the global climate change discussion is to prevent a concerted effort on the part of national governments, industry and worldwide associations to stop pollution and environmental damage. As such, it serves as an effective distraction from such very real problems, making all those tooting the climate change horn part of the problem, not part of the solution.
It is especially galling that they tend to snootily talk down to anyone who disagrees with them using cheap insults like ‘oil industry shill’ or ‘climate denier’ in lieu of any bona fide argument. But the world has always been full of fools and the intelligent-but-misguided. And always will be.

Current headline in Reuters “China says no banned areas around Taiwanese islands after two killed”

February 18, 202412:15 PM GMT+11Updated 3 hours ago
BEIJING, Feb 18 (Reuters) – There are no off limits or restricted areas for fishing around a group of Taiwanese islands close to China’s coast and Beijing reserves the right to take further measures after two Chinese nationals died near the islands, the government said.
Taiwan on Thursday defended the actions of its coast guard after two people on a Chinese speedboat, which got too close to a frontline Taiwanese island, died when their boat overturned while trying to flee a coast guard ship. Two others survived.

That didn’t take long. Kinmen Island is basically in a a large bay of the mainland

Somebody socked and continued to hijack a thread on Putin’s recent interview, spewing a huge list of numbers:
The Global Land-Ocean Temperatures for the last 174 years (hottest to coolest).
https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/global-temperature-anomalies/anomalies
Posted by: Global Warming | Feb 18 2024 6:08 utc | 172
No, that’s not global land sea temps.
From your site:
Why use temperature anomalies (departure from average) and not absolute temperature measurements?
Absolute estimates of global average surface temperature are difficult to compile for several reasons. Some regions have few temperature measurement stations (e.g., the Sahara Desert) and interpolation must be made over large, data-sparse regions. In mountainous areas, most observations come from the inhabited valleys, so the effect of elevation on a region’s average temperature must be considered as well. For example, a summer month over an area may be cooler than average, both at a mountain top and in a nearby valley, but the absolute temperatures will be quite different at the two locations. The use of anomalies in this case will show that temperatures for both locations were below average.
*******
We cant have below average can we?

I bookmarked this. It is gold.

Posted by: UWDude | Feb 18 2024 7:31 utc | 153

P.S.
I currently model hi res, randomly generated planets, with light weather patterning, (shade is colder, rainshadows, oceanic and sea current carry, but the seasonal cycles are identical, because it is not for a global warming model)
However, i know exactly how NOAA’s global temperature anomaly model works.
The normalization makes up for low densities of data points, which in turn hurts resolution in those areas.
There is not much that can be done about this, and it is ok… For global Surface temperatures. It is OK for seas, deserts and flat lands, but it has issues with where i know very well bt hiking and observing… …mountains.
Mountains are the heart of weather chaos. They also have surface areas that are almost impossible to accurately measure, although now with Google Earth, I am sure there could be better accuracy…. …if models even take surface area into consideration! Which I doubt, and I KNOW they did nor before 2005 or so, as computers simply could not even begin to hold data that accurate. (And as i have mentioned before, I used Dartmouth’s Linux Cluster with Fluent’s Airpak at that time),
So more than likely, the surface area models in climate modelling have been 3d ONLY in that they were mapped to a sphere, but essentially, were 2d.
Also, being a huge fan of mountain climbing, and camping on mountain tops, and watching sunsets, I KNOW models can not take into consideration to he crags and shadows. I also know, there are no measurement tools out there. There are hardly even signs. Yet the SIDES of mountains are where most snow and cold is trapped.
I could go on, but TL:DR is there is NO WAY any temperature measurement can be accurate at this time. It would take a major, and environmentally disastrous effort to put enough gauges in the correct places in the mountains.
