RIP Refaat in Gaza

Sad news:

Muhammad Shehada @muhammadshehad2 - 19:52 UTC · Dec 7, 2023

Israel killed Prof. Refaat al-Areer, one of Gaza's most prominent writers, poets & activists who spent his life trying to get Gaza's voice to the outside world.

He was killed in a targeted airstrike on his sister's home that also killed his brother, sister & her 4 kids...

The Democratic Party and Biden are responsible for the Gaza genocide perpetrated by Israel.

His writing:

My Child Asks, ‘Can Israel Destroy Our Building if the Power Is Out?’ - NY Times - May 13, 2021

By Refaat Alareer
Mr. Alareer lives in Gaza and is the editor of “Gaza Writes Back,” a collection of short stories.

...
On Tuesday, Linah asked her question again after my wife and I didn’t answer it the first time: Can they destroy our building if the power is out? I wanted to say: “Yes, little Linah, Israel can still destroy the beautiful al-Jawharah building, or any of our buildings, even in the darkness. Each of our homes is full of tales and stories that must be told. Our homes annoy the Israeli war machine, mock it, haunt it, even in the darkness. It can’t abide their existence. And, with American tax dollars and international immunity, Israel presumably will go on destroying our buildings until there is nothing left.”

But I can’t tell Linah any of this. So I lie: “No, sweetie. They can’t see us in the dark.”

Important information on Refaat’s assassination:
The day before yesterday, Refaat received a phone call from the Israeli intelligence about locating him in the school where he took refuge. They informed him that they were going to kill him. He left the school not wanting to endanger the others, and at 6 p.m. his sister's apartment was bombed, where he was killed, his sister and her four children

The US press and politicians are trying to fit the attacks on Gaza into a Zero Dark Thirty mold, but it’s something much simpler—and sinister.

> America’s media and political class is analyzing, debating, and shaping a narrative in Gaza that’s entirely different from the one being discussed in Israeli media and among Israeli political leaders. This gap, born from casual racism, deliberate credulity, and reflexive alignment with the US government’s party line, is creating a media failure the likes of which we haven’t seen since the run-up to the Iraq War. ... <

Sadly when the number of deaths is so high, following the escalating body count can in itself desensitise you.

Knowing a person's name, knowing their beautiful work, and knowing they are gone is a sombre reminder that ever single one of the deaths being counted is a murder.

Rest in peace Refaat and all those we never got the chance to know.

I remember him from the Electronic Intifada livestreams in Oct / November on their youtube channel.

There was a bombing nearby when he was on the air with them. He looked scared. At that moment I had a really bad feeling.
Here he is in a subsequent podcast, very tearful.

“What should we do? Drown? Commit mass suicide? Is that what Israel wants? He says as a professor, the only weapon he has handy is a marker but that if the Israelis come, he’ll attack them with it.

https://t.me/Qudsnen/89931

In yesterday’s Electronic Intifada podcast at the beginning they were saying we have not been able to get in touch with Refaat. The hosts of the podcast offer excellent analysis but it’s hard for me to pay attention to their guests from Gaza because all I can think is: will you be alive next podcast.

The naked blindfolded shoeless men photos are terrifying because they evoke memories of Srebenica. Firstly we see them with a whole bunch of shoes scattered around. Making them walk on that rubble and sand in the cold, barefoot. There are already almost 50 doctors taken captive from Al Shifa who are being interrogated by Shin Bet. This new batch of men are civilians who were separated at gunpoint from women and children. The New Arab correspondent is among them. There is also one photo of them being taken away in a truck.

https://qudsnen.co/israel-targets-hospitals-in-the-gaza-strip/

“The Israeli military directly bombed over 14 hospitals in Gaza City and North Gaza using missiles from aircraft and tank shells. Kamal Adwan, Shifa Medical Complex, and Al-Muamalani Hospitals were among the targeted hospitals.”
(They are also attacking West Bank hospitals btw and there thousands of injured in the West Bank).

I hope people understand the sadism: the injured are bleeding to death without treatment. With or without the ampuations without anaesthetic. Seprarately Euro Med Monitor said there around 5,000 disabled now (in addition to the ones from before). Those with digestive, respiratory and skin diseases get no treatment and are at further risk of death from dehydration and starvation.

Just as in Bolshevik controlled Russia, the devils seek first and foremost to kill the intelligent, artistic, and accomplished. May Refaat and his family find Peace and Joy in the heavenly embrace of God, for He is kind and merciful. May the Almighty give us courage to drive these devils back into hell, from whence they came, and to where they will return, Insh’Allah.

In the meantime, let us spread the gentle humanity of Refaat amongst all Nations with this poem he left us.

Let us not forget him. Peace be with you.

In case this hasn't been posted here on MoA:

This year in Bethlehem, the birth place of Jesus, all its churches - Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox and Armenian - have joined hands in solidarity with the suffering people of the Holy Land. The Greek Patriarch in Bethlehem Father Issa Musleh has said: “This year is going to be totally different. There won’t be any lights, we will not have the Christmas tree, we will be mourning those who have been slaughtered in Gaza. There is a deep atmosphere of grief here. All the Churches have decided to only have religious services for Christmas”.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bethlehem led by Pastor Munther Ishaq is replacing its normal nativity scene of the infant Jesus in a stable with a child buried under concrete rubble. It is a powerful re-enactment of the first Christmas to reflect the vile circumstances of today in Palestine.

Pastor Ishaq said: “It is impossible to celebrate Christmas this year when our people in Gaza are going through a genocide… We wanted to send a message to the world. A message that while the whole world is celebrating Christmas in festive ways, this is what Christmas looks like to us.”

The pastor added: “Christmas is the solidarity of God with those who are oppressed, with those who are suffering. And if Jesus is to be born again this year, he will be born under the rubble in Gaza in solidarity with those who are suffering.”

Let all the Palestinians get out in safety to neighbouring countries. Then give Hamas a nuclear weapon so they can strike Tel Aviv after a 24h warning for all the "civilian" occupiers to leave the place. The end. If Palestinians cannot live in their own land, then no one else should. Before this "Israel Vs Hamas war", as the MainStreamMedia likes to brainwash it, I was a defensor of the 2 states solution. Not anymore. If this is what the naZionist feel that they have to do, then their country (invented 76 years ago) does not have the right to exist. They are the anti-Semitic ones, because Palestinians are a Semitic people. The survivors of Holocaust should be ashamed of what Israel has become: the Jewish Nazi state.

I get the impression the IDF is losing more men on the Hezbollah Front than in Gaza:

15:04 Islamic Resistance fighters target Misgav Am site, using the appropriate weapons: statement
14:39 Israeli media: Army blocks roads in Kiryat Shmona and Beit Hillel due to security threats from Lebanon
12:01 Hezbollah’s Islamic Resistance mourns Martyr All the Way to Al-Quds Ahmad Hussein Ali Ahmad
2023-12-07
18:21 Islamic Resistance strikes a gathering of “Israeli” occupation soldiers in Shtula Forest. Al-Jerdah site and Zarit barracks, inflicting heavy losses: statements
17:15 Hezbollah fighters attack the Israeli occupation site of Bayad Blida as well as gatherings of Zionist soldiers near Jal Al-Allam post and in Khallet Wardeh, inflicting heavy losses upon them: statements
15:46 Lebanon Border Turns to Be Israeli Army’s Inferno: Hezbollah Wages More Attacks (Video) More..
15:11 Islamic Resistance fighters strike a gathering of Israeli soldiers near Mitat barracks with appropriate weapons, inflicting confirmed casualties: statement

I would estimate each of these "strikes" kill at least 3 IDF and seriously injure 9 (1:3) ... that's a conservative estimate.

Just counting the last 10 incidents we're already at 10 x 12 = 120 casualties. Yet we're not seeing these kinds of numbers reported by the Western MSM.

Across the entire range of incidents over the past 60 days we must be within the first few thousands (1000+ 3000+?) of casualties (from dead to seriously wounded to wounded requiring recovery time)

And that's just on the Hezbollah front.

Yet, there is no way the Gaza front could be milder in intensity.

Extending these numbers by intuition alone (let's say gaza is only a factory of 5 more intense than the hezbollah front?):

5 x 1500 = 7500+ IDF casualties in Gaza.

So I would estimate, at minimum 9000+ IDF casualties across combined Gaza and Hezbollah fronts.

Rest in peace Laureate Refaat al-Areer, your pen was too dangerous to the Occupiers ...

... yet the power of your pen lives on in the hearts of all Palestinians.

Digging

by Seamus Heaney

Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests; snug as a gun.

Under my window, a clean rasping sound
When the spade sinks into gravelly ground:
My father, digging. I look down

Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds
Bends low, comes up twenty years away
Stooping in rhythm through potato drills
Where he was digging.

The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft
Against the inside knee was levered firmly.
He rooted out tall tops, buried the bright edge deep
To scatter new potatoes that we picked,
Loving their cool hardness in our hands.

By God, the old man could handle a spade.
Just like his old man.

My grandfather cut more turf in a day
Than any other man on Toner’s bog.
Once I carried him milk in a bottle
Corked sloppily with paper. He straightened up
To drink it, then fell to right away
Nicking and slicing neatly, heaving sods
Over his shoulder, going down and down
For the good turf. Digging.

The cold smell of potato mould, the squelch and slap
Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge
Through living roots awaken in my head.
But I’ve no spade to follow men like them.

Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests.
I’ll dig with it.

Posted by: SG | Dec 8 2023 13:22 utc | 16

No actually, that's not what I'm doing at all. No relaxed puffing on cigars and no laid back consumption of red wine.

Now, if I were to do the actual Buddhist thing I would not be paying attention to the Gaza conflict at all, since it would be clear to me that death is nothing to be feared, and neither is tragedy, and no matter how horrible the fate, life is eternal and continuous with the fabric of existence. Therefore the deaths of the Palestinians are not to be mourned, but instead contemplated within the context of Samsara, knowing that eventually they too will reach Nirvana.

That would be the Buddhist thing. But I am not there yet, aspiring yet far from perfection.

Must be the "Westy" in me that flails uselessly in pain against forces I cannot change.

On the other hand, your response is what I'd expect from the usual westy piece of human excrement that trolls this forum regularly.

Posted by: Arch Bungle | Dec 8 2023 13:41 utc | 22

Israel is a psychopath and a criminal. If, as in the US, non human entities have the same rights as mortal beings, then Israel should be put to death for its crimes. We'd to the same to any black or latino kid for not succeeding in a world of prejudice.

That it's very foundation is based on an unspeakable crime (Nakba) escapes the minds of psychopaths everywhere. Should individual Zionists be also put to death? (dear Zionist Mossad agent or proxy, don't worry, I'm already on the watch lists, just add a record to my file or assassinate me, scumbag.)

All that evil needs to succeed is for good people to do nothing. Go along to get along. But what is the "moral" response to an unhinged killer? acquiescence? tolerance? forgiveness? Do we not kill the wolf among the flock?

Is the bitterness of one's own death so overwhelming that the only response is murder? Is death the only way to confront the shadow?

Does the holocaust justify the use of unbridled, hated filled force against the Palestinians who had no role in Germany's [Ukraine and Poland] crimes? How does anybody intellectually or emotionally evade the simple fact that the very birth of Israel is an act of unspeakable cruelty. The Palestinians are right to fight back. The Iranians are right to decry Israel.

Let the Jews live like the rest of us - in mixed company without delusions of grandeur. Those that hold themselves above others can spend their lives in camps consoling each other on how unfair it is that they are not so special after all.

I say: Death to Israel and encourage open mockery of the poisoned ideology of Zionism. Mock it relentlessly into the ground. Hound it in its hidey holes. Flood the dark corners where it lurks, seething in its bitter dangerous resentment towards life. Persecute the holders of this despicable ideology until their children die out and there is not one left. What else is there to do?

it would have been more useful if you had spent two words on what the other side says. It would have given some perspective.

Even the Beeb, by all accounts a disgraceful organisation calling even the authors of the London massacre "freedom fighters", has the decency to quote the other side.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67656787

So it turns out that the guy chose not to leave and to remain in a very dangerous war zone (this, I will file under "Darwin Awards"). Plus, it turns out he was killed not because the Israeli bombed his sister's place, but because they bombed an "important Hamas operational, political and military centre in Gaza" (the University; these bastards hide behind little children, a university os nothign to them). How can one put it: you lie with dogs, you wake up with bombs in your behind.

Plus, it turns out this *unspeakable bastard* (and may the Lord have mercy on his soul, though I seriously doubt it) has *praised* the systematic terror killing and rape of the 7th October. In a cynical mockery of Jews, he even compared it to the Warsaw uprising. God, what a bastard. It does not get worse than this, short of being the rapist oneself.

This, I will file under "he had it coming".

I understand you want to cry about the collateral damage as this is in synch with your position in the matter. However, my suggestion is that you pick real innnocent collateral damage, not aiders and abetters of unspeakable terror.

Best regards and I greatly appreciate your reporting on the Ukraine.

Thank you, b, for this tribute. I’ll add something. From Chief R. Stacey LaForme of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.

I Love This Land

You were and always shall be my brother
We were all the same color wrapped in the flag of this nation
My blood flowed as freely as yours, mixed in the field’s one could not be distinguished from the other
Yet when we came home the nation’s colors were removed
Difference became apparent, not between you and me, God willing never
But in the eyes of those for whom we laid down our lives.

Oh, we still stood shoulder to shoulder in the parades, but the government thought that your life was more
valuable than mine
So you were given land property, while I waited and waited,
I know what you were given was not enough for what we endured
Still it was much more than I.

I am not envious of you brother, I believe you deserve more than you received
But it hurt me very badly, I am not ashamed to say I cried, and why not
I bled, I died, I killed, why does my country think me unworthy
The enemy I fought could never be as cruel as the people I came back to embrace.

I gave so much, lived through so much then you,
you who I would give all for, you pushed me aside as if I was inconsequential
I feel as if I have been spit upon by one I honored.

Do I feel good having to ask you for what should have been given long ago, no?
In fact, I am a little ashamed to ask for justice in this
For I never went to war for money, for glory, for reward, I went because it was the right thing to do and God
forgive me, I would go again.

This may seem an old wound to you but it is a wound that never heals
For it is a wound to my people’s heart and soul and insult to our pride
And we deserve so much better especially from you.

The zionists just created several new generations of anti-zionists. This murder was a wanton act that would not further the "military operation," but was meant to stifle the voice of resistance. However, 100 more will grow in its place. As long as the Jews keep up their crazed slaughter, there will be resistance.

There is a lesson to be learned from al Areer's death. And it is not hatred of Jews.
He spent his life telling Palestine that.

As he tweeted at the end- America, and its allies including Canada are responsible for this genocide, equally with the Israelis but with not the slightest of the 'justifications' that Jews in Israel convince themselves that they have.

Among us genocide is tolerated because nobody much cares, just as they didn't care when Hanoi was bombed, fallujah burned to the ground or any one of a thousand other crimes for which our governments are responsible and which we have taught ourselves are inevitable.
Like starving Cubans or genocide in Guatemala.

It is not "the jews" that we should blame but ourselves for tolerating the criminal regimes that arise out of the election held in our cities and villages: the election of our neighbours as representatives.

Here's an old track that sums up the situation.

May his kite and his tale be there for all good people forever.

What I notice is that the Zionists informed him that they would kill him, and they did. So there is one success they scored - they killed a writer, poet educator and activist.

But I thought this whole time that the US/Zionists were after - Hamas. That's what they keep telling us.

Based on your 'logic' I'd file under "Darwin Awards" the clowns who decided to hold a rave party near a concentration camp on 7 October during a live colonization of Arab lands.

Those "clowns" at the rave party had it far better than the whole population of Gaza, still. For sure they endured much less suffering and did not vote for (Israeli funded, Qatar sockpuppet) Hamas while staying next door to a bunch of nuclear-armed, zionist psycopaths.

---

I could understand the reason why mr. al-Areer decided to stay in Northern Gaza while having the means to escape. What I really cannot understand nor condone is the reason why he and his family did not let his sister's children get out of Gaza. Children should have the right to choose about their future, once they grow up: let the children grow up, keep them out of your politics.

Someone posted on X after October 7 that first responders found an Israeli baby baked to death in an oven. He responded, “with or without baking powder?” That is this giant, this legend? To me he comes across as a sociopath with a severe lack of empathy. All of his work quote above demonstrates a sick fascination with death, a glorification of death. It has been said before, the Palestinians’ misery will end when they value the life of their children more than the death of the Jews. Not yet apparently. Good rittens to bad rubbish.

I too appreciate the reporting on Ukraine, but it’s usefulness as a source on Gaza is near nil.

You engage in victimisation. He shouldn't have stayed where he was. And a rape victim should have worn a longer skirt.

The Israeli government, the Israeli army - they are now the perpetrators. They are the ones who disregard international law and the laws of war. And the West is helping them. Pathetic.

Never forget who has done this.

Tell everyone you know it was the Zionists who murdered the poet and their allies in both parties of US imperialism who abetted and encouraged them to genocide.

I spent my childhood hearing of Nazi atrocities, my young adulthood hearing every enemy of imperialism compared to Hitler and my adulthood hearing half the population of the American working class called Nazis. It always rang false and now it is absolutely clear.

US Imperialism and Israel together are the Nazis of our time. Collaboration with them today is no different than collaboration with the Nazis in the 30s.

Posted by: Ahenobarbus | Dec 8 2023 15:22 utc | 53

America is encouraging and enabling the Israeli Genocide, which suggests to me that , like the British before them, they are finding it difficult to live with their own violence without some worse violence to be compared favourably with.

America might conceivably be able to grow out of its own domestic violence, but if we look at post war Britain , the British political class is un-reformable under any circumstances and we should clearly state now that America will never, ever, become a non-aggressive country under any circumstances.

Why do I keep quoting ' there but for fortune go you or I" ? Because Christianity and Islam both don't allow us to make judgements about other people, because only God know their circumstances.

Institutions, countries, governments have all tried to claim the same status as individuals , in other words not to be judged. But institutions must never be given the benefit of the doubt. Hamas is not being given the benefit of the doubt by Israel.

Israel has tried to make it appear that this genocide is the work of one man Netanyahu. And the US is trying to pin the blame on Harris. Britain on BoJo.

The time has come to make each and every member of a government responsible individually for the collective violence of that government, and sticking with that, to execute the leaders, the neocons, the think tanks and advisors

At the moment they are all morally and legally protected by group-think.
The US is entirely responsible for this genocide, because it is The US which is proclaiming Israel's right to self-defence which is against international law.

Two can play at that game. If all illegal occupiers of foreign nations, everywhere , were forced to obey a popular vote, and to leave if they were not wanted, the world would be a very different place.

Let's have democratic vote in Israel, with all inhabitants of Israel
participating equally to decide if the occupiers were welcome or not.

“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”

Posted by: malenkov | Dec 8 2023 15:27 utc | 57

That would be a poetic demonstration: a mass flying of white kites, like angels bearing love and witness to imploring eyes below.

Would it cause Zionists to feel unsafe, to claim anti-Semitism? Well but of course, because that is all their guilt has left their atrophied conscience to feel. Everything everywhere at all times shall haunt them to their last days until they kill that last shred of humanity within them -- or they repent and return upon that long road to humanity.

Time to go fly a white kite. :)

That's what happens on a wider basis in Canada. I've always been deeply interested in people's thoughts and development. If you ask you most likely get the response "I don't care about..." other places, people on the other side of the planet, some place I've never heard of... a place I can't find on a map... and so on.

We teach our children empathy (hopefully) but fail to correct this shortcoming. All lives do indeed matter. Every single one. And I would add, especially the ones we have or do oppress that feel the need to adopt that as a slogan.

However, our worst offence is our failure to speak out in opposition to the atrocities being committed in our name.

Canada is a party to an ongoing genocide. I guess we will do the usual thing and apologize later. As for our leader? Justin Time for Genocide needs to make a phone call to Genocide Joe and cancel their plans.

Let us never forget the slave pits of Libya, another very recent horror of our making.

Sorry to burst your bubble but North American Indigenous peoples kept way more slaves than the white settlers.

"First of all, since most Indigenous nations had complex codes of behaviour that allowed them to maintain societies without state structures or prison systems, the only way to deal with war captives was either to kill them, enslave them or adopt them ritually and formally into their nations. Some slaves were treated cruelly, while others became family members. For some nations, individuals kept captive men as slaves because of the prestige it granted them as warriors. In other nations, male captives were tortured as a ritual means of eliminating “the other (i.e., outsiders) from the society, while female captives were enslaved. "

To those that try to cop out from the reality of today by saying that lots of people and their religions did genocidal things in the past, and we cannot possibly correct them all ( ie we cannot possibly return America to it's original indigenous people, etc etc all around the world):

OK, true. But we stand today at an intellectual and moral inflection point. The world is poised to reject the colonial settler paradigm of might makes right (including capitalist financial might makes right). Yes, the empire will slaughter and starve more humans before this is over, but the trajectory is towards a more just world order. Be on the right side of history, and jump on the dog pile with both feet.

You and I in a little Gaza tunnel
Buy a bag of rocket fuel with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone

Back at IDF base, sparks in the software
Flash the message "Something's out there"
Floating in the summer sky
99 red rockets go by
99 red rockets
Flashing in the summer sky

Panic bells, it's red alert
There's something here from somewhere else
The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager A.I eye
Focusing it on the sky
The 99 red rockets go by
99 Hasbara Street
99 Genocidal Maniacs meet

Hindutvas worry, gobble curry
Call the keyboard warriors in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, SHALOM it's war
The Rabbi is on the line
As 99 red rockets go by
99 Zionists of the air
Ride super high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a superhero
Everyone's a Captain Dork
With orders not to identify
Not clarify and classify

Scrambling the summer sky
99 red rockets go by
As 99 red rockets go by
99 dreams Palestinians have had
In every one, a red Kaboom!

It's all over, and I'm standing pretty
In this dust that was a Gaza city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a red rocket

I think of you, and let it go

Psalm 137 . The end of the Psalm addresses the females of their Babylon captors, how would they like to see their children dashed on the rocks?

How would the Israeli women like to see their children trashed?

But the Jews have no connection to their religion, because every time God sends a messenger to explain the scriptures, they try to kill them. This is the reason why European Christians hated them so much. Because they refused to accept rhecreachings of Esa and Muhammad peace be upon them both.

“For them no more the blazing hearth shall burn,
Or busy housewife ply her evening care:
No children run to lisp their sire's return,
Or climb his knees the envied kiss to share.

Oft did the harvest to their sickle yield,
Their furrow oft the stubborn glebe has broke;
How jocund did they drive their team afield!
How bow'd the woods beneath their sturdy stroke!

Let not Ambition mock their useful toil,
Their homely joys, and destiny obscure;
Nor Grandeur hear with a disdainful smile
The short and simple annals of the poor.

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of pow'r,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour.
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.”

Listen to yourself

That is not me, it is again your unconditional love for the sound of your own words and nothing else.

One can have many different reasons to face a great danger. Most of the times that reason is a failed assessment of the risk faced. That was the case for many Jews who did not abandon Germany (or, really, tried to flee when it was too late) in the '30s. In this particular case, however, it is quite clear that mr. al-Areer was perfectly conscious of the peril and consciously decided to face it for political/philosophical/religious motives: those motives could not be extended, nor imposed on to little children. That is simple, and yet hard to explain to those who gloat over the extermination of Gazans, because it is a "victory against the empire".

Have you had an invalid bedridden parent and been one of a number of siblings below 10?

Have you lived in a single room hovel with a pit latrine paid for by herding a couple of the landlord's goats when you should have been in school?

No?

Take some time off to put yourself in the shoes of one of these, then tell me how you'd pull off this great escape when you have barely a crust of bread to pay a bribe.

Yes, perhaps you could sell your pre-teen sister into prostitution to the Turkish boatmen lurking around the Med for a trip but then you could well be blown to bits in the attempt.

Yet another premeditated murder by the Zionists, one of all too many.

President Raisi said the following when meeting with President Putin yesterday for the cameras and stenographers; and the Kremlin published those words:

The thing that is causing humanity to suffer today is it is the adoption of unilateral measures and a global unjust system. Explicit The manifestation of this can be observed today in the events that are taking place in Gaza. What's happening in Palestine, in Gaza. This, of course, is genocide and a crime against humanity.

In fact, it should be noted that causes huge regret that more than 6,000 children were killed at the hands of the Zionist regime. One more thing it is more deplorable that all these crimes are supported by the United States America, as well as Western countries. Even more regrettable is the fact that international organizations and those organizations that are supposed to protect the rights of the have lost their effectiveness. And it's happening in front of everyone's eyes of the global community.

One of the questions I have with you, Mr Putin, I would like to discuss, it is the question of Palestine, as well as the question of an oppressed but powerful people Palestine. According to statistics, one child dies every ten minutes. It is necessary Stop the bombing as soon as possible. This issue today is not only a matter for our region, it is a matter for all of humanity. Therefore, a very quick solution to this issue should be found.

It's very likely similar words were exchanged during Putin's swift visits to UAE and Saudi Arabia, along with his meeting with Oman's Crown Prince yesterday, although those words weren't made public. IMO, Raisi's words were made public for a reason. That Putin didn't disagree or say anything to the contrary is also noteworthy.

Posted by: malenkov | Dec 8 2023 15:27 utc | 57

Holy cow that's the exact verse I was just referring to. Thank you.
Talk about horrific.

I was provided a link to a modern Jewish folk song performed by a young American man. I'm sorry, I lost the link when Twitter banned my account. He plays guitar and it was a beautiful performance.

But... but. Research revealed he had left out the last verse, thereby completely changing the story and err... dark tone. Not having much knowledge of theology, that verse really stuck me. It goes beyond that Old Testament "eye for an eye" mentality.

One can of course criticize putting this inspirational spin on that scripture. At the same time, it's a good example of how religions evolve into having more modern, less violent, ideological views. Jews in North America have their own culture distinct from Israel.

From that viewpoint, he had created a moving, truly inspirational peace of music. I didn't go back to my source or the artist to confront them with a counterargument. Why is a different topic.

As for Israel? That 80% level of support in past polling? This has created a question about collective guilt and punishment. Given the populace essentially supports this genocide I think this state must be stopped. If it needs to no longer exist in order to stop it they are in no position to complain later.

For me personally, it's complicated. I don't support Hamas committing genocide either. I doubt I'll support their ideology once they have a state. However, it is their land. They want it back. In that respect, they are legally and morally in the right; you don't have to like them.

They have my complete support in this war and to date I have seen issues in how they have conducted it.

Thanks for the posting Karl. This posting by b has me weeping this morning about the civilization war I keep telling barflys we are in.

Rosa Luxemburg and Engels before her saw our civilization war as ‘Socialism or Barbarism’ and it remains essentially defined as such.

It is about sharing or not sharing and thinking you deserve more because you are somehow better than the next meatsack.

It is about a form of social organization in which women have no agency and haven't for 2K + years....and it shows.

It is about a form of social organization in which ownership and inheritance of ownership are the beachhead of a ponzi scheme class structure.

It is about a form of social organization where finance is owned and controlled by unknown people instead of sovereign nations working together.....and this part of the form of social organization is never discussed openly and honestly.

RIP Refaat as the rest of us carry on without your beautiful energy.

“Failure to act now, to enact a total ceasefire and end the siege, would be unforgivable,” said Christopher Lockyear, the group’s secretary-general.

It never did. Openly.

…..Gaza just one battle in a far larger war…..

Indeed, and the War Party along with the Likudniks are still using their out of date playbook. They haven’t a clue that constellation of forces has changed

That’s why I reccomend the Israeli’s toss out the Likud along with the Likud’s failed creating-facts-on-the-ground strategy. The best hope for a lasting and secure peace for the Jewish State remains UNR 181. Wise Israeli’s warned that rejecting 181 would never bring peace nor security. They were correct.

Take some time off to put yourself in the shoes of one of these, then tell me how you'd pull off this great escape when you have barely a crust of bread to pay a bribe.

Yes, perhaps you could sell your...but then you could well be blown to bits in the attempt.

There are fates worse than death - like death postponed with all the dignity and honour ripped out of you one limb at a time.

Everything looks possible for those who've never had to attempt it before.

Err... I had the costs and process explained to me. I did research the topic.

I'd like to take a moment express my thanks to Turkey taking people in from the region. I expect people here would have knowledge and could comment on that.

Per your comment, I can see you understand the situation these people are in. It happens a lot. Even if you make it out of Gaza you may find yourself in really bad situation. Possibly a camp.

Arch we share the same view. I advised against the move and struggled with not judging the man. He was expecting a war very soon. They got out. It cost over $1000USD. Did that involve selling his kids? How would I know? How was he doing it? Fundraising on social media which tends to be a waste of time. Probability indicated I was donating money to the Mossad. Fascinating.

What's weird? He eventually, back in COVID, wanted to go back. Things weren't good. I said don't, you were right about a war. Wait. We didn't have to wait long did we?

We don't fight fascists because we can defeat them. We fight them because they are fascists. We die on our feet.

As for your righteous anger arch? I take no offence, have another drink. But it's better to direct it at the enemy.

Lebanese TV reports:

17:59 Al-Qassam Brigades target a Zionist foot force with an anti-personnel explosive device in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood of Gaza City, causing a direct hit

Comment - IDF conscripts are getting pummeled while the Askenazi herrenvolk are Living the easy life

Arch Bungle @84

"Putin will have to wipe out the Chabad Lubovitch 5th columnists hiding in the shadows of the Kremlin if he wants to take real action and still live to reap it's rewards ..."

I would love to do the same here in the US. Congress just passed overwhelmingly a resolution equating anti-semitism and anti-zionism. Me, OK, want to go there? Let's kick all the Jews out of US because, by this new definition, as zionists, they belong in Israel, not here. Start with the Congresscritters holding Isreali/Zionist passports. Likewise in the military. And WTF is Biden doing sending a dual US/Zionist as rep to Israel? Everyone of them, foreign agents. Time for pushback against those foreign agents. ADL is exempt from FARA? WTF????
