Thanks.
We're going to a vigil at the public celebrations to 'countdown' to midnight- thanks to energetic and selfless young people who do the organising.
On Christmas Eve I attended a Roman Catholic service presided over by a Monsignor. it was long, involved at least thirty white robed members of the clergy plus a large and talented choir. It was full of references, biblical and ex temporised, to Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem and other points in Palestine.
But not one word was said on the subject of the genocide.
It really is laughable (that could be the wrong word) that such an institution can talk of moral leadership and hard to believe that had the child Christ been lying there, in the elaborate creche tableau, he would not have been betrayed to King Herod's killers on demand.
Thirty thousand dead, average age of victims five years.
Of course there is nothing in the Bible prohibiting the confiscation of anaesthetics unless you count
"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
But I guess that was a reference to pedophilia not sadistic racism.

I wish everyone a happy 2024.

But I fear that 2024 could be become more deadly year than the previous 2 years. I fear that especially the US will go through A LOT OF financial & economic "turmoil". Perhaps even more "financial turmoil" than people think right now (think: e.g. the year 2008). It could mean that the US Empire will cease to exist. Although many would like to see the US Empire go "down the drain", it also will/could mean that the rest of the world will have to find other "security arrangements" and that could come with A LOT OF turmoil in the rest of the world as well.

Am I right or am I wrong ? I love to be wrong but I fear that could be more right than I feel comfortable with. Only the upcoming months will reveal whether I was right or wrong.

Nonetheless: A Happy and above all a peacefull New Year for all.

May 2024 be the year when the human species gets really really real like we’ve never got before and internalizes the crucial epiphany that we no longer have a choice between economic Justice for all and myriad miseries escalating exponentially, we are down to only the choice between Justice and autogenocide via our end-stage myopia and inertia.

I wish everyone the epiphany that saves everyone.

You're making a difference as well. Where would Bernhard be without you? He'd be talking to himself.

Why do trolls come here? To disrupt the very effective work you're doing, of course. Why else would they spend the time? Each troll post is a badge of honor and an unintended affirmation of your work.

Here in China... all is peaceful and optimistic.

Construction is everywhere, and people are happy. The end of the year celebrations continue as they always have, but this year was a tangible... "more optimistic" feeling. It's difficult to put my finger on it, but everyone is looking forward to 2024 as the year of the Dragon with the great symbology that comes with it.

I am getting periodic reports and narratives from my friends who have visited me and then went back to their respective nations. All of them, without exception, describe a dystopian world in the West, populated by the deluded and the ignorant. They, as a whole, are very pessimistic about 2024. This is in stark comparison to the overall feeling here in China, and the "global south".

Where ever you may live, I offer you all great hope and wishes for a most exciting 2024!

Most clergy would probably say: we should pray for both their conversion, the Palestinians and the Israelis. It's not good enough. I agree.

But Francis is doing what he can. He emphasizes the transfiguring, female nature of the RCC. It is no longer the Church that bullies in a phalic, tribal manner.

What is Putin doing? What can anyone do?

Perhaps we ascribe too much agency to these movers and shakers, so-called.

Israeli's cheering genocide, Ukrainians being fed into the grinder like lambs to the slaughter... the wonders of dumbocracy.

The last of what I call the Vietnam era journalists
"Pilger was a critic of American, Australian and British foreign policy, which he considered to be driven by an imperialist and colonialist agenda. He criticised his native country's treatment of Indigenous Australians. He first drew international attention for his reports on the Cambodian genocide.[6]

Pilger's career as a documentary film maker began with The Quiet Mutiny (1970), made during one of his visits to Vietnam, and continued with over 50 documentaries thereafter. Other works in this form include Year Zero (1979), about the aftermath of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, and Death of a Nation: The Timor Conspiracy (1993). His many documentary films on indigenous Australians include The Secret Country (1985) and Utopia (2013). In the British print media, Pilger worked at the Daily Mirror from 1963 to 1986,[7] and wrote a regular column for the New Statesman magazine from 1991 to 2014."

Has been an interesting year for me to put it mildly. Talking to my sister and getting into the mindset of the woke. That really is an effed up world. The ultimate evil of Russia and China but none none bother to look at our own indigenous where there is an actual slowmo genocide ongoing. Utopia.

I look at those about me... no different to the Israelis cheering genocide, the Ukraine sheeple fed into the slaughter.

Rufas, thanks for the report on the optimism in China. I saw it when I was there.

Russia booming, the sanctions from hell returned to sender.

Thanks for your good work b.

You are not the only one. It is a curse to be well informed these days. The media and social media giants that effectively rule the western world see us as units of consumption. This generates profits that in turn feed the patterns of consumption dictated by them. It seems like a stable system that reminiscens of feudalism.

The human measure is lost in that system and many feel left out. It is however in the collective memory and the traditional societies where this still lives, alas outside of the West.

This is at the core of the struggle in the world. Until someone breaks up the soc media cartels, we are going to live in their algorithmic world. Take that away and physical reality will seep again as a driver of minds and hearts.

Live your best life is the best advice I can give. Refuse to conform in the giant soc media space but still engage with those others as at a certain moment we will be all they have. Family especially.
