Ukraine SitRep: High Losses, Political Infighting, Blocked Borders

How many losses did the Ukrainian army have in its war against Russia.

We, so far, did not have any answer to that. The Ukrainian military has given no realistic account of its own losses while its claims of Russian losses are obviously exaggerated.

The Russia military is likewise giving no numbers for its own losses. But its daily reports give estimates of Ukrainian ones. These are currently around 650 per day plus/minus 200 depending on the intensity of the fighting.

Some western observers, foremost retired Colonel Macgregor, say that Ukraine's unrecoverable losses have exceeded 400,000 men. But he does not name his sources.

Now a new chapter in the war between the Ukrainian president Zelenski and the Commander in Chief of the Ukrainian army, General Zaluzny, may have given us an answer. Yesterday this news item found its way to the Strana news site (machine translation):

Zaluzhny didn't provide the plan of war-2024 and has to leave-the people's Deputy from "Servants of the people"

The commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, does not have a war plan for 2024, and therefore must resign.

This was stated by Deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, MP from Servant of the People Mariana Bezuglaya on her Facebook page, referring to a "non-public discussion" with the military.

"Yes, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could not provide a plan for 2024. Neither big nor small, neither asymmetrical nor symmetrical. The military simply said that they need to take at least 20 thousand citizens a month, " she writes.

Zaluzny has no plans for 2024 because there is nothing he can do about the upcoming defeat of the Ukrainian army.

Every time he urges to stop defending positions that can not be held, like Bakhmut and Avdeevka, the political leadership tells him use all reserves and to keep holding. Every time he urges to build strong defense lines and to retreat to them he gets overruled. There is thereby nothing, except one number, that he can plan for.

That number is the one of the irretrievable losses of the Ukrainian army is experiencing. Zaluzny needs 20,000 new men per month to replace the losses and to keep his army going.

Assuming that the number is an average estimate we can calculate that 20 months of war have cost the Ukraine some 660 losses per day for a total of some 400,000. Irretrievable losses are not only dead (KIA), missed in action (MIA), or soldiers who preferred to become prisoners of war of the Russian army (POWs). They also include the severally wounded people who will be unable to come back onto the battle field.

These numbers seem high but we continue to see more and more reports that point to extremely high losses:

Ivan Katchanovski @I_Katchanovski – 0:35 UTC · Nov 27, 2023

Adviser of Zelenskyy: There is now "terrible shortage" of artillery shells & "huge shortage" of mines and military personnel on frontline. He heard "scary numbers" that average age in some brigades is 54 & that 3 people remain in some companies out of 110 at start of the war. https://youtu.be/MqRNWdqzF7E?si=6EnJEa25zcK-6p-4&t=196

Storming Russian ditches when one's rare troops have an average(!) age of 54 is impossible.

There have been other report which, similar to the one above, speak of the heavy depletion of Ukrainian units:

Kotsyurba and Lysenko’s company began the summer with 120 men. It’s now down to around 20, including replacements. The rest are dead, wounded or have been transferred away from assault duties. The new faces are mostly over 40 years old, some in poor health.

That is no longer an army but a Volkssturm like forces which enlists grandpas and kids to do the fighting.

In response to the threat of firing Zaluzny some activists immediately threatened a coup (machine translation):

A well-known activist close to Western structures, the founder of the StateWatch organization, Alexander Lemenov, threatened Vladimir Zelensky with a military coup.

He wrote about this on Facebook.

"What can we say about this style of communication? I don't have enough words to describe… they'll play out. We will lose more territory. But not all, far from all. And in Kiev, the government will really change, but not to the Russian one, but to the military one.

Zelenski was thus forced to intervene. He had to disavow the comments by the parliamentarian (machine translation):

The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky disowned the statements of Maryana Bezuglaya , who made accusations against the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, and condemned her statements.

The corresponding video message was published by the presidential representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Fyodor Venislavsky.

"Mariana Bezuglaya's appointment to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense may threaten the national security of Ukraine," Venislavsky said.

Meanwhile, Bezuglaya continues to bend her line.

She posted on Facebook a cartoon of a military man who swears that he doesn't know if there is an "offensive plan". She accompanied the picture with the following caption: "When the mines were "discovered" or "go, there are only a couple of p#dors"(c). The military sent them from the brigades now."

Probably, in this way, she wanted to express the idea that the Ukrainian command failed to correctly assess the enemy's forces and the difficulties that the APU will face during the offensive.

Unless the Pentagon and the Biden administration intervene Zelenski will fire Zaluzny within the next few weeks.

British 'experts' continue to push the Ukrainian army into conscripting younger men (machine translation):

The Armed Forces of Ukraine need younger soldiers, because the current average age of the military is too high.

This is stated by Western military experts on the pages of the Financial Times newspaper.

According to experts, this is due to the fact that "the conflict has turned into small infantry battles on foot in trench systems," which require better physical fitness. At the same time, the average age of Ukrainian men fighting at the front and undergoing training in the West is 30-40 years.

Senior Research Fellow, Royal Joint Forces Institute Jack Watlin believes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine this year mobilized "disproportionately many older men," but now they need young people with greater endurance.

At the same time Director of the Polish analytical center Rochan Consulting Konrad Muzyka says that Ukraine cannot wage a war of attrition with the Russian Federation, since the Russian Federation has more equipment and soldiers. Kiev needs more prepared and trained troops.

Earlier the former British Defense Minister Ben Wallace had told Ukraine to draft younger soldiers.

But all these 'experts' ignore the severe problems with Ukraine's population 'pyramid':

bigger

The 20 to 30 year old men they want to draft are simply not there to be recruited in any decisive numbers.

There are also other issues that currently hamper the Ukrainian military. For more than two weeks Polish truckers, who previously had the  dominant role in the European freight business, are blocking the country's borders with Ukraine. Thousands of trucks are stuck on each side with waiting times that are now exceeding two weeks.

That is because the EU gave the non-member Ukraine the privilege of doing business in Europe without having to adhere to its rules. The Ukrainians, with less costs, thus took over the Polish business.

The blockade of the border affects military as well as humanitarian goods. Soon the Ukrainian military will be starving of everything it needs for the war.

It's not only the truckers in Poland who are very nervous about a potential Ukrainian membership in the EU:

Polish farmers on Thursday blocked the Medyka border checkpoint with Ukraine, demanding subsidies on wheat and state-backed loans amid an influx of Ukrainian grain, Polish media reported.

Protesters said they would block trucks from reaching the checkpoint between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day until Sunday, the IAR news agency reported.

The farmers want the government to subsidise the prices of wheat, extend state-backed loans due to the influx of grain from Ukraine, and keep the farm tax rates unchanged, according to news outlets.

On November 6, Polish truck drivers launched a blockade of the Hrebenne, Dorohusk and Korczowa checkpoints, demanding that the European Union reinstate permits for Ukrainian transport companies entering the bloc.

On Thursday, Polish transport companies announced that the protest at the Dorohusk checkpoint would be extended until February 1, Ukraine's Ukrinform news agency reported.

The Polish protests coincide with concerns in Ukraine that the European Union may not agree next month to launch formal accession talks for it to join the 27-member bloc, a key objective for Kyiv, according to the Reuters news agency.

It reported that prolonged protests and the resulting disruption to trade could affect Ukraine's fragile, wartime economy.

The price of motor vehicle gas (LPG), which is widely used to fuel cars, has surged 30 percent due to the protests, according to an industry analyst cited by Reuters.

Should Ukraine enter the European Union Poland will lose most of the agricultural and other development subsidies it is currently receiving from the EU. Those subsidies would then flow into the even less developed, low pay Ukraine. It is thus unlikely that Poland will agree to its membership.

Over the last days Ukraine, on top of the losses and political troubles, saw a record storm in the Black Sea accompanied by a serious drop in temperature. Thousands of households in south Ukraine and Crimea are without electricity. Snow is hindering all movements.

LOL, since when is the winner paying reparations? Never.
As for the recovery plan, the Swiss are funny people, thinking that Ukraine will keep the Donbass.
See this link:

And the funniest is that map:

Where western countries are planning to help the reconstruction of Donbass, but not Crimea. I wonder why…
The degree of stupidity of those people is quite impressing. Sure they had a good time on the shore of the Lugano lake.

The population pyramid for Ukraine is the result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, which destroyed the industries of Ukraine and drove the population into deep misery. The result was a very low birth-rate and a much higher rate of male deaths to despair (alcoholism, suicide etc.). Russia has the same shape of its population demographics:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Russia#/media/File:Russia_Population_Pyramid.svg
Note the small numbers 15-30, with some recovery with the onset of Putin’s stability and oil-revenue driven recovery. Also, the huge number of “excess” women above 50 years old – due to the male deaths of despair and general bad male habits (smoking, drinking etc.). The men in the video listening to the Ukrainian singer show the real physical condition of the older men, not exactly full of vim and vigour!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKAGxmJYcUI
There are at least 650,000 Ukrainian men of fighting age residing in Europe, and the Europeans with their own population dynamics issues seem to want to keep them rather than send them to the front; so many good white breeders just like the millions of Ukrainian women in Europe.
At the end of this war, which Russia will win, the DPR/LPR male population will be significantly denuded due to war losses (not just in the SMO but since 2014) probably as much as the Ukraine population will be. With Russia having its own demographic issues, a new “gathering of the Russians” may be good policy, providing easy immigration, jobs, plots of land etc. for the Russian diaspora. How many of the 2 million Israeli-Russian citizens would not prefer the new recovering Russian oblasts to a declining and war-torn Israel? Altogether there are some 20-30 million ethnic Russians living outside Russia:
– Kazakhstan 3.5 million
– Brazil 1.8 million
– Uzbekistan 640,000
– Latvia 445,000
– Kyrgysztan 400,000
– Estonia 306,000
– Turkmenistan 300,000
– Argentina 350,000
– Lithuania 141,000
– Azerbaijan 140,000
With the already declining and small populations of the Baltic nations, Russia could do severe damage to them if they managed to bring home a large part of their ethnic Russian populations. Ethnic Russians have been treated very badly in those states. Given the horrendous future that Argentina is looking at, together with Brazils problems, a lot of South American ethnic Russians may be happy to back to Russia.
Also, how many ethnic Russians in now anti-Russia Europe and the US would be happy to move back to Russia? The propaganda damage of ethnic Russians leaving these “advanced nations” for Russia would be significant.
– U.S. 3.1 million
– Germany 1.2 million
– Canada 622,000
– France 2-500,000
Given the huge amounts of agricultural land that the Russians may confiscate from oligarch/Western corporate ownership, perhaps there would even be enough land for the Mennonites (500,000 in the US, 175,000 in Canada), who may find it more comfortable living in a conservative orthodox Russia.
There may of course be a post-war baby boom among the LPR/DPR oblasts to mirror the global one at the end of WW2.

It’s well known fact that older men can’t run [I mean sprint] for shit.

At 51 I attended the Schumacher College intentional community for an MA in Economics for Transition and while there tried playing football with the youngsters. They would run by me as if I was standing! So I can attest to the “can’t sprint for shit” phenomenon. Probably a lot slower again 10 years later.

I’m not sure as to the meaning of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Don Siegal, the director, was a liberal in his early days (he later directed Dirty Harry), and Body Snatchers has often been interpreted as a warning against McCarthyism. But it is ambiguous, and, as you say, it could also ne a red scare film.(sic)

We don’t need no steenkeen interpretations ! We can see, we can see ! Allegories here , alligators there ! What to do ? What to say ?

Agreed. And there are lots of examples in American history of how we go about accepting the corrupt functionaries of failed regimes to the West’s welcoming bosom to guide them. If they want to get treated right, and not have their money confiscated, they need to have a front man who is partnered with Washington, and they have to wait for Washington to declare that an honorable peace deal has been arrived at. Then they can flee with their loot to another country.
Washington might even encourage them to leave, as it could be easier to get money out of Congress for Ukraine, after it abandons trying to fight Russia, once Ukraine can proudly declare, Under New Management.

Mariana Bezuhla who axed Zalnutzy is not some “anybody”. This is a bloodthirsty Nato Nuland copy:
From Wikipedia:
Mariana Bezuhla was a candidate for People’s Deputies from the Servant of the People party in the 2019 parliamentary elections (constituency No. 217, part of the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv).[9] Bezuhla Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Implementation of NATO Values and Standards, International Military Cooperation and Peacekeeping. She is also a member of the Permanent Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
On the 5th May 2022, Bezuhla submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada[15] which could allow commanders to kill military personnel in a combat situation if they refused to follow orders. At the time of the submission, during martial law and in a combat situation, commanders had the right to use weapons against violators of the charter “without leading to the death of a serviceman”.[16] This draft law would have removed this line. The draft law proved highly controversial,[17] and as such was withdrawn on the 24th May 2022.

>> Zaluzhny, does not have a war plan for 2024
So what? Neither Ukraine, nor NATO, nor anybody in the West has been able to articulate concrete goals, let alone a plan to reach them, ever since the Maidan coup in 2014.
“Let’s play for time” (Merkel, Poroshenko & Co on the Minsk-treatys), “Let’s send some weapons to Kyew” or “Putin must die” are not plans.
After the Afghanistan -debacle, the main criticism was that Politicians must lead, rather than give in to the siren songs played by the military and weapons manufacturers, whose property even survival, depends on starting more wars.
We listened to them, again, and now we’ll pay the price.

There’s no incentive. The smo hasn’t stopped terrorism, it made it much worse. Their army is dumbed down by most of the current generals, the parasitic products of 80s school. All dumbos are around the same age, hard to believe it’s a coincidence. So it’s very possible they will need a lot more recruits to fix the smo and no one wants to return when there is mobilization. The propaganda in nato is working relatively well and there isn’t something very obvious Russia can show as useful in two years of police action in Ukr. Kiev is still much safer than Moscow, no one dares to touch it. Look at Baltic nato puppets. Poor countries (why would anyone not born there chose to live there is a mystery to me), no more Russian language and other new restrictions and they still prefer to stay.

Robert Heinlein had a period where imo he took his reactionary conservatism too far, though he did start off as a liberal libertarian. See his story Coventry for an example of that early period. Happily at the end of his life and career he reincorporated a much more optimistic and carefree attitude to his writing.
Though for my money I think Glory Road, and The Door Into Summer, feature him at his best, bubbling with ideas, and not yet seething with a rage over permissive liberalism that would spill over into his writing, imbuing his novels with a bleak pessimism for the future (not fun reads). And his All You Zombies is a short story classic, not that long ago adapted into an unexpectedly brilliant feature film.
Yadda Yadda Yadda, Heinlein wrote a novel related to The Thing, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a novel which much later amusingly enough was made into a film featuring Donald Sutherland. Richard Belzer had a small role in it, and imo totally killed it in regards his character arc. No spoilers!
It’s currently valuable to watch for free on YouTube, and it stays close to the novel. Mild spoiler, it’s an allegory for how totalitarianism can be seductive because free will and freedom of thought can have its downside.

My assessment is from the practical military POV if that’s the policy choice decided for the Ukies by its masters. If any sort of battle trained core cadre is to be saved for later, that’s what must be done. Trying to defend cities on the East side throws away any chance of saving that asset. From Russia’s POV, not retreating behind the Dnieper increases its chances of completely finishing off Ukie military potential as what remaining reserves and fresh conscripts will continue to be fed into the meatgrinder. Plus, Russian capabilities continue to increase and there’s nothing NATO can do to slow that down. There’s a report about Russia’s ship building I’ll be providing later today where Russia will likely build two-three new shipyards to deal with the demand for shipping of all types, while compared to NATO’s inability to expand any of its MIC supply chains.
An observation about the WW2 German military–Allied forces did not win in Italy; they were stymied by the geography. The Western Front was denuded of personnel in favor of bolstering the Eastern Front, which is the only reason why the Allied forces were able to rapidly advance to the Rhine. If the bridge at Remagen had been dropped, it’s doubtful the Red Army would have stopped at Berlin and the final contact line wouldn’t have been the Elbe.
Back to the above issue of freezing the conflict. NATO doesn’t give a damn about the fate of Ukie cities East of the Dnieper; ceding them to attain a frozen conflict would be just fine. Which Ukie personality is more likely to give NATO what it wants: Zelensky or Zaluzhny? IMO, it’s the latter.

There is at least one example of a sprinter in their 50s. Reg Harris came out of retirement at age 54 in 1974 to win the British Professional Sprint Championship. That would be on a bicycle. He also brought one his own 1949 bicycles out of retirement at the Raleigh Museum to accomplish this.
Seventy one myself and winning more sprints than I ever did 50 years ago. Opponents age hardly matters. On the bike knowledge counts equally with strength. Now if I had to do it after a night of sleeping rough or a week of eating whatever misc rations were available, no contest. Likely no start.

What an utter flow of consciousness without any supporting evidence! It may make you happy to believe in such things, but it does not make them true.
Its not “two years”, its actually 18 months and Russia has much to show in the massive depletion of Ukrainian manpower at a relatively small cost to the Russian army, together with taking over the most industrialized parts of Ukraine already, splitting “the rest” from the West over sanctions, damaging the European industrial economy, showing the weakness of the Western MIC, using the opportunity to clear out many of the traitorous remaining “liberals”, establishing closer relations with Iran. Terrorism is “much worse”, really apart from a few desperate attacks by the Ukrainians (so you are saying that the Ukrainian state is a terrorist?).
Its very hard to leave a country in which you have much invested (wealth, career, friendships, family) and that is why Russia should offer good incentives to offset the losses of the immigrants. A good paper investigating the differing factors on ethnic Russian migration from the Baltic nations, Contexts of Exit in the Migration of Russian Speakers from the Baltic Countries to Ireland
A quote:

I argue that the effect of state policy as a push factor for minority emigration is mediated by other contextual aspects, such as levels of contact, timbre of ethnic relations, and the degree of intersection between economic stratification and ethnicity.

Russian immigration incentives, together with the increasingly harsh anti-Russian policies, may very well push many to leave for Mother Russia. Kiev is “safe” because the Russians will own what they destroy after the war’s end.
I will not comment on the childish insults to the Russian high command.

We are gearing up for Cold War II after Ukraine. The Scholz/ Stoltenberg plans for a Rapid Response force of 300,000 men, though impracticable at least in the short term, showed that some time ago. The EU has always wanted to develop military force to match its commercial weight and the UK, “Brexit” or no, intends to be part of that. We want our share of the resultant defence projects.

I hope you’re right. Europe developing a native Rapid Response Force in the hundreds of thousands would likely double EU’s defense expenditures. For the past half century, prevailing economic theory has been that Europe thrived and prospered due to its piggy-backing the US on defense (same with Japan/Korea/Southeast Asia, so they say.). If now EU nations have to spend 3,4% of their GDP on defense spending instead of “investment and populace enrichments”, and yet their economies still thrive and prosper, then it disproves this “nonsense theory” of Europe/Japan/Korea/Singapore riding on the back of Uncle Sam and should therefore pay up.
Supporting 300,000 Rapid Response Force would require developing warship industry, fighter plane industry, ammunition industry, transportation industry, infra-structure industry, et al. These expenditures will stay in Europe (?) and circulate with normal velocity to boost GDP Big Time??? Yesiree!!! EU certainly should give this thesis a trial.

The fact is that the status quo that has developed today on the fronts is not beneficial to us. Very much not profitable.
Without the Odessa, Nikolaev, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov and Poltava regions, it will be impossible for us to ensure the security of the so-called “old” territories of Russia.
If we make peace in today’s conditions, then this is a constant threat to the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh regions, Donetsk and Crimea. The land corridor to Crimea is also under constant threat and, like the peninsula itself, will be within the reach of Ukrainian missiles. And without depriving Ukraine of Odessa and access to the Black Sea, our fleet and the Crimean Bridge will constantly be in danger of attacks by naval drones. The fact that crests, even after the conclusion of peace, will crap, don’t go to grandma. We’ve already passed Minsk 1,2,3.
Without the destruction of the Ukrainian criminal regime and the conclusion of peace, we will not get peace, but will only conclude a truce, which sooner or later will again result in another war. The Ukrainian regime will crave revenge.
Any frozen war sooner or later flares up with renewed vigor. Karabakh is proof of this. Well, we’ll see soon how it will be.

https://t.me/romanov_92/42823

There is a threat of the possibility of another agreement.
Ukraine and its population are being carefully led to this.
The agreement (truce) is primarily beneficial for Ukraine, because:
– the offensive potential has been exhausted;
– total mobilization against the backdrop of the absence of successes and a simply prohibitive number of funerals, notices of “anonymity” – have already led the citizens of Ukraine to the moment of “war fatigue”;
– time is needed to accumulate strength for a new blow;
– The Russian Armed Forces are under attack and every day for the Ukrainian Armed Forces results in the loss of certain positions.
That is, the truce will give Ukraine the opportunity to:
– accumulate forces, weapons, ammunition for a new strike;
– “concrete” current positions;
– wait for favorable (including weather) conditions for a new strike;
– conduct sabotage activities without fear of getting a response – under the guise of “it’s not us, they’re generally on their own and they don’t listen to us.”
At the same time:
– in the Constitution of our Motherland, new regions are prescribed precisely within the administrative boundaries. And the enemy is on their territory. In fact, they are occupied;
– stopping the database without control over the Odessa region will immediately be followed by another crisis in Transnistria. And without a direct corridor there, we will not be able to help our peacekeepers there. And there are also huge warehouses with ammunition for weapons from the times of the Union. This is so relevant now for the Ukrainian Armed Forces;
I will now leave aside the moral and ethical questions about why, in the event of an agreement, our soldiers give their lives and how many times statements have already been made in the style of “we were deceived.”
Any freezing of the conflict without achieving minimal results in the form of:
– full control over the areas prescribed in the Constitution;
– a direct corridor to Transnistria –
is just a time bomb, which in the future will claim even more lives and even possibly the lives of future generations.
Once we have started, we need to go to Victory. Otherwise there was no point in climbing.

Looking at that population pyramid, only the deluded or profoundly ignorant can think there’s an army of any kind there. With mass covid disability on top, there’s no one healthy enough to even get through moderate training.
I wasn’t in the military and didn’t go to boot camp, but know many people who did. Healthy or slobby, everybody reported it was more extreme than they could imagine. This was over 30 years ago, when American mass obesity and widespread chronic illness was just getting started. Now I’ve read that one of the physical fitness marks you have to meet in US Army basic training is three pushups. THREE.
The aristocracy’s mad empire dreams have been dead for a while. It was sealed when the aristocracy decided to do nothing about covid.

I fully support the position of Comrade Romanov . Every point is spot on, as he correctly speaks about the attitude of the fighters towards any agreements.
And of course, undoubtedly, there cannot be even a hint of a peace treaty without the returned regions within their administrative borders, but no less important – without the Nikolaev and Odessa regions.
This is not just a minimum, but the minimum that gives a chance, by turning on the full power of soft power tools, and not wasting money on them, to prevent a recurrence. Will explain.
The Odessa and Nikolaev regions, that is, the coastline, are not only a corridor to Transnistria and security, but also a very strong foundation for the future use of social technologies, that is, soft power.
It is already clear to everyone that after the war, Ukraine will become the poorest country in which people will have difficulty finding a means of living, and even more so, Turkey and Egypt, not to mention European resorts, will be inaccessible to them. But you will need to rest. And they will only have the Black Sea – the Russian Black Sea. And when they come to the Russian Black Sea, they will not only have to speak Russian, but most importantly, they will see that there was and is no hostility on our part towards the civilians of Ukraine. Women and children, like men later, will see that they have been monstrously lied to all this time and that when they stop shooting at us, we will treat them as our own – Russian people.
This will be the main soft power – Russian people’s soft power.
In any other case, Comrade Romanov is completely right – there will be no peace, but there will be a truce for an even bloodier conflict, which we are leaving to our children.

Zaluzhny doesn’t have a war plan for 2024.
Obvious followup: Ukraine had a war plan for 2023. How did that work out?
I keep being surprised at the depth of Ukrainian delusional thinking. Then I read a statement regarding Ukraine by US ‘leaders’ and realize, the political dynamics in both countries are little different. Both hopelessly corrupt, their peoples thoroughly manipulated by propaganda and reduced to braindead cheerleaders, media outlets completely captured by the powers that be. If anything, Ukraine copied the US system and took it a step further. Ukraine should serve as cautionary tale for the US and the West after it is destroyed, but it won’t. Both countries are too stupid to learn anything.

What a bunch of hustlers! I don’t doubt for one second, the EU assured Yanukovych’s successors that NATO’s “open door” policy guaranteed any financial losses, from ETA 2013! loans to “self-defense”. Poroshenko’s rush to the ICJ the same week the Donbas ATO! started screams pre-meditated murder. A/ES-11/L.6 (14.11.22) “Furtherance of remedy and reparation for aggression against Ukraine” boilerplate.

Letter dated 28 February 2014 from the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council

Every. single. UNGA resolution (listed in the draft) and UNSC “brief” pertaining to Ukraine’s tortious claims after 24 Feb 2022 refers to that correspondence (S/2014/136) meaning to establish one fact pattern—”Russian-backed” terrorism from Crimea to the moon over Kiev—for all crimes against humanity and war crimes PLUS “ecocide”. Shameless frauds!
If one can read, one can understand the resolution approves establishing yet another “registry” of personal claims for damages (EU has one, ICC has one, ICJ has one). It does not express judgment of claims. It does not authorize “reparations”. It does not defer to UNSC authority to empanel a “special tribunal,” because the draft authors‘ plan is for Ukraine’s “judiciary” to rubber stamp them all.
And until that happens, “international investors” will not contribute to build-back-better Ukraine Recovery or Reconstruction “projects”. Mr Rustem “No Water for Crimea” Umerov has spoken. No $700B rainbow potty for us!

One must be agile to get in and out of an APC of any type; wriggling through very narrow trenches and dugouts; rising and firing or dashing into the open to fire an RPG or AT weapon. Remember, these soldiers aren’t in gym shorts and sneakers; they’re wearing 20+ pounds of gear outside of their uniform and wearing combat boots. Yeah, I’m 68 and still a very good shot, but I can’t move fast at all, nor am I very agile. And watching drones chasing small groups of soldiers and eliminating them tells me I wouldn’t want any part of that regardless which side I’m on.

–Fascist front about to crack along the Oder R., er, Dnipyr.
–Wunderwaffe fizzled out.
–Volksturm being called up.
–Various factions under the Great Leader (GL) seeking to escape a clearly lost cause attempt negotiations.
–Fascists fight on directed by the GL in a concrete submarine under Hauptstadt Kyiv.
–GL shoots himself when all is lost (or is overthrown and/or killed).
–Complete collapse of the state and Svoboda Party members flee to Brazil, Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. Most, but not all, of those captured surprisingly have their lives spared by the war crimes tribunal and end up in Lefortovo prison.
–Denazification and the Maxim Reshetnikov (Marshall) Plan enacted
If the Götterdämmerung in Berlin were to have gone the way that Ukraine will likely go, Göring would have been left in command of some sort of recalcitrant “neutral” rump state in Bavaria, soon to be weaponized by NATO in 1949 against “the Russian menace.”

If U will/ability to fight crumbles, we will see it when it happens. But those counting on it, have a long history of wishcasting and not revisiting their predictions. E.g. how’s that ‘SNAP! Putin gonna take out Ze now.’ (after the Kremlin drones) working out?

They had only one chance to prevent Ukraine from ceasing to exist as a state: tell the amused West that they would soon drive the Russians back to Siberia and use all the weapons that the delighted West supplies to expand the fortifications in the East. This would have required a Ukrainian nationalist to lead the state – and that is why the Americans prefer to rely on an Israeli actor.

What are you talking about? Noone at MoA made any such idiotic prediction. If anything I would say that Putin likes Zelensky alive because that coke addled moron is more an asset to Russia than Ukraine frankly.
I think you’ve confused the bar with the imbecilic Western leadership. Noone here predicted Putin would do anything of the sort after the ineffectual, made for TV attempts to attack Moscow with those toy drones.
I think you are desperately trying to assert to yourself that because Ukraine hasn’t lost significant territory that its military isn’t being systematically dismantled, with virtually nothing left but pregnant woman, kids and old people. But hey do carry on, fill yer boots.

Posted by: Doctor Eleven | Nov 27 2023 22:59 utc | 147

Slowly and then all at once. To some degree the writing has been on the wall for Ukraine for quite a while, with the possible exception of a successful offensive this summer. Since that didn’t happen the only thing left is to attempt difficult predictions of exactly when and how the collapse comes.
Yes, US money is theoretically infinite but money can’t be shot out of an artillery barrel nor does the presence of money guarantee the production of the barrel. Money cannot buy people, not once they become scarce. There’s very little Kiev can do now that might turn the tide, but there’s little chance anyone on Bankova Street is willing to face that and make the difficult decisions reality requires. The people they look to for guidance in DC, London and Brussels are completely divorced from reality.
I’ll stick with my prediction that by spring/summer of 2024, Ukraine will be in a desperate state and collapse palpable. It could happen before. It could happen any day now really. But by then Russia will be poised for the offensive many assumed would happen this year, the Americans will be completely distracted by an election year and the Ukrainians will be coming out of a dreadful and deadly winter.

Regarding Zalushny, he was extremely good sending the Ukrainians to slaughter. Now that they begin to
run out of kettle (and guns), of course he is not the right man for the job anymore.
But he is still very very useful and practical, as he is the perfect scapegoat. Why that? Because as
a ghost he can be made to have said whatever is needed and then criticised accordingly.
Anybody talked to him in Ramstein lately? Na, pardon me, it was just a format. Must be nice for him,
working from home.
Anyway, he can still be kept around as long as possible, and when the heat gets too much for Zermak,
can be kicked out to buy a little extra time. Expect some more birthday party accident news soon
after Zalushny’s retirement too (or some such).

Someone commented that Ukraine age pyramid implies revolt is unlikely, presumably because revolt requires energy and passion of youth. However, there is a saying “youth and skill are no match for age and treachery”. And while there is no question that old men are typically bad sprinters, they can still be lighting quick in some muscles. Fast draw pistol shooting competitions are routinely won by old men who probably can’t even jog, much less sprint. As far as willingness to thrust a knife in someone’s back, old men are probably much better at that than young men. In other words, when Zelensky gets taken down, there is no need for a young man to do it.

The whole academic and political system in the West is BUILT to underestimate Russia by means of non-stop self-aggrandizing which creates nausea among normal cultured people be them in Russia or in the West. The whole “elite” education system in the West is one non-stop perpetuator of delusion of grandeur and informational GIGO. It seems all the high-minds of Nato absolutely worship Zaluzhny. That seems to imply that Zaluzhny’s tactics in Ukraine could be adopted to Nato.
Zaluzhny, in reality, is a mediocre general who perhaps never has thinked outside the box. Remember that Zaluzhny was put in charge by Nato in 2020 – 2021 in an effort to remove the “obsolete Soviet thinking” and adopt “Nato standarads” and the results have followed accordingly.
Regardless what anyone says, this war in Ukraine in every aspect is fully representative of Nato. It is what Nato is.

Ukrainian TV Channel 1+1 reported that the AFU’s casualties have been so far 1,126,652 KIAs and MIAs. Zelensky’s office moved in immediately to force the TV studio to remove the item, it’s rumoured it was the Zaluzhny circle that furnished the figure as a revenge for Maryana Bezuglaya (Марьяна Безуглая) a female close to the chair of the Rada’s Committee for Defence and Security, who attacked the general saying, as ‘b’ says ‘the general has no plan for 2024, should be removed’.
Another high ranking official got involved in the spat also, Fedor Benislavskiy (Федор Вениславский) the President’s representative in the Rada attacked Bezuglaya saying she should not be a member of the Defence and Security Committee because she has jeopardised Ukraidnian security by revealing the general has no plan for 2024.
If the figure for the killed and missing is true, which those close to the department collating the data say it is, than it gives the figure for the wounded to be between 2m-3m i.e. the total loss of between 3m-4m. That’s almost a fifth of the current size of the Ukrainian population.

Regardless what anyone says, this war in Ukraine in every aspect is fully representative of Nato. It is what Nato is.

True but NATO has to adapt. We all know that the empire needs wars, not necessarily won wars. But the defeat of NATO proxy Ukraine is much worse than previous losses. There’s a new RAND study that I know about from Anti-Spiegel, a site I recommend to German speakers who are off the mainstream.
It is called “Inflection Point — How to reverse the erosion of U.S. and allied military power and influence” and, funnily enough, starts with a (correct but useless) definition of “inflecion point” 🙂
Seriously, the authors have grandiose plans for how to modernise the empire’s military. They state in clear words that status quo is not good, and they give detailed recommendations to UK (“keep your troops closer to home”), France (“good stuff but not enough longevity and mass”) etc.
Obviously it’s lobbying for even more money into the MIC. All the cool words (UUV, UAV, AI, sensors) are used. Spend that money for your safety, spend it! Still, they know that F16, F35, B2, Abrams etc. will not cut anymore.

Don’t get caught up in numbers. What really counts is the number of motivated people. The rag tag Palestinian freedom fighters are just the latest example.
That motivated bloodlusty crew trained and armed to the teeth was finished at Mariupol.
The rest have been an ever decreasing quality of fighting abilities, excluding ex/seconded NATO personnel who have faired no better than the first army.
Who cares who’s going to be in charge or what the regime wants to do, the breakdown in the gang pressed military ranks will lead to mutinies and mass surrender. Just like the Vietnam War.

Russia must expand attrition war in Ukraine. Ukraine already has a severe dearth of men as can be seen from the chart. Accelerate their demise using more and more effective attrition (harvesting) tactics.
When Ukrainian military collapses Russian military can storm in to all parts of Ukraine. Necessity will make sure Russian troops and Ukraine’s women will build the next demographic pyramid in Ukraine. That will permanently integrate Russia and Ukraine.
Those unwilling will leave Ukraine which also helps Russia expand its territory without any effort.
Therefore attrition is the name of the game that can ruin all NATO plans and turn the war against their favor.

The 1951 Basic Arctic Manual (FM31-70 or CATP 9-1) says that
“TNT, Tetrytol amminium nitrate, composition “C”, shaped charges and bangalore torpedoes are affected very little by cold”
Anti-tank mines should “not be buried too deeply otherwise the top layer may accept the weight and not detonate the mine”.
“Additional charges will help overcome the smothering effect of deep snow”,
Cardboard packing is recommended to prevent fuzes from being rendered ineffective by penetrating mositure that re-freezes.
it is advised that mines must be painted white, as the covering of snow may blow away.
Whether modern mines, with their sophisticated fuses and sensors, are largely immune to the above is a moot point.

The only “foreign nationals” noticed by MSM are Thai. Turns out, Israel running quite the guest worker visa op for kibbutz “farmers.” According to DW, demand for low-cost migrants accelerated after the 2nd Intifada. Thai replaced low-cost Palestinian field hands.
Why so many Thai workers became Hamas victims
Another on-brand “advanced economy” demographic problem solved!

Biden victory lap

Abigail, whose name has also been rendered as Avigail Idan [proper Hebrew] in some [Israeli] reports, is the first [“]American[“] hostage who was been released as part of the deal brokered between Israel and Hamas that would allow for the freeing of at least 50 of the more than 200 Israeli hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a 4-day pause in the fighting and the release of dozens of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. Some foreign nationals have also been released by Hamas, including a [Israeli-]Russian national.

On Sunday, Biden spoke of the events the young girl experienced during the attack, acknowledging that she had been through “a terrible trauma,” as, according to Biden, she witnessed her mother die in front of her before her father was shot and killed while shielding her from attackers.
[…]

Meanwhile, no one is asking which Palestinian patients and prisoners are “Americans”.

Last 16 employees at Avdiyivka coke plant left in early November, so the plant is dead. Once the furnaces go out they cannot be restarted. They also provided heating for the city, so no heat now.
VOA article from 2015 with a video of the plant says that all 1,700 employees of the plant were living underground for protection from shelling:

You forgot to mention Bernard Hopkins who at the age of at 46 won the lineal/WBC light heavyweight title beating George Foreman’s record by a year. He then broke his own record by winning the IBF light heavyweight title at the age of 48. He then at age 49 broke another record by winning the WBA light heavyweight title. He also became the oldest boxer to ever unify titles.
The history you quote regarding older soldiers I do not think Ukraine falls under the same umbrella. They are a 3rd world country with a terrible healthcare system. I doubt Ukrainian men in their 40s let alone their 50s and 60s are in good health because they probably have little access to regular healthcare. Plus, the Ukrainian military does not treat its soldiers well so they will not provide them with training, healthcare, and proper nutrition in order to get t hem in better fighting shape. I have read that life expectancy for Ukrainian males is only 65 yrs of age.

The correct MSM nomenclature in order of descending priority is
• “Israeli” hostages (sole and dual passport holders assumed brutally snatched by Hamas from their homes “bordering” Gaza on or about Oct 7)
— minor “Israeli” hostages,, any sex
— adult female “Israeli” hostages
• foreign hostages (visa holders present in Israel assumed brutally snatched by Hamas from their homes “bordering” Gaza on or about Oct 7)
• Palestinian prisoners (female adults and minors of any sex incarcerated by Israeli police in W Bank)

Well since they are not POWs they are probably not included in POW exchanges. Russia isn’t under any obligations to give any information about them so no one knows their fate for sure.
If they are captured, probably Russia either treats them as common criminals and imprisons them, or summarily executes them. I also suspect the number of foreign mercenaries, aka “NATO troops” on this board, in theater is greatly exaggerated.

At the end of September, state.gov announced the successful assessment of Israel’s Visa Waiver registry for Palestinian-Americans.
Now, listen:

An estimated 800 American citizens are trapped in Gaza amid Israeli bombing. As Israel exterminates families in the Gaza Strip, Americans remain trapped and desperate to escape. However, they say the U.S. government is ignoring them. Uncaptured Media’s Don Cohen contacted Suzan Beseiso, who is among those trapped.

Beseiso is a American Palestinian from Utah who traveled to Gaza to visit her dad and extended family. When Hamas attacked Israeli settlements, she was surprised to learn that her safety is a low priority at the American embassy in Israel.

They could ransom them, I suppose, if they are high profile or their families are rich. The problem with letting them go in any swap or trade is that they might well return to the battlefield. Better to neutralize them while you can.

Yes, I suppose I misplaced the “context” of pessimist’s question about foreign nationals. But not the procedural rules attending passport repatriation winners. Whether Wuhan, Ukraine, North Korea, or Palestine, whether in time of peace, war, or pandemic, which state choses to redeem the value of one’s citizenship is the only determinant of success.

“How deep does snow need to get to make minefields safe(r) to cross?

I grew up in northern Ohio. Delivered newspapers door to door back in the early seventies. When it gets to be 3 feet deep, I sure as hell would not want to be crossing a minefield. The snow compacts under your feet, adding more weight. Plus, you are in winter gear and with the extra weight of additional ammo and such, not having a clear view of the ground is also a factor. Unless the ground is frozen with a layer of ice and it’s 10 below, I would not like my chances. Nope, I don’t like it.

Feral Finster brought this post from Viktop55 to my notice:
https://t.me/vicktop55/18732

Real enemies will save Russia. I’ve written this so often that you should understand what it means. Ukrainian telegram channel Ze Rada: “Hero of Russia Boris Johnson. It was Boris Johnson who convinced Kiev to withdraw from all negotiations on June 20, 2022.
At the moment when the Russian Federation made a critical mistake, deciding that a police operation (now the beginning of the SMO is assessed in this way) could persuade Kiev to compromise, at the moment of weakness of the elites, ready to record a historical defeat by signing the “Shameful World 2.0”, the “shaggy one” came to the rescue. A man who held a position in which the fight against Russia never stops. When it seemed: “that’s it record the actual defeat of Russia, write textbooks about it, create a movie, blow up the country from the inside with “patriots,” but Boris decided that the main thing was not to lose his place in London intrigues, and to please his personal desire to remain in chair, convinced the second such tyrant to “put the squeeze” on Russia.
And Russia resisted, as it has resisted many times in history. People suddenly returned from African missions who knew how to fight in a new way, specific instructions came down from above, and a new paradigm was explained to the elites. The opposition left on its own, purges of generals and officials began, billions were invested in the military-industrial complex. Russia showed exactly that “long will” that Arestovich spoke about: slowly and ponderously, with mistakes and obstacles, but they began to change the country. And then Xi arrived and said: “We’ll stand a little behind and won’t let you fall.” 90% of the sanctioned goods went through the PRC, increasing the production of drones, Shaheds arrived from Iran, a million shells arrived from the DPRK, but that was all later, and at the most difficult moment, Boris was the first to help Russia.
And you called Trump an agent of Russia…”

Ze Rada is, of course, right. If the Ukranazis had been bright enough to agree to Putin’s peace terms in March last year, it would have been a clear propaganda and real victory for them. They could, and would, have said that Russia made peace because it was on the brink of defeat. They could, and would, have cheated on any military restrictions just as the Weimar Republic before them did, by arming militias that were officially not part of the army, something that they were already doing. They could, and would, have visited vengeance on the populations of Zaporozhye, Kherson, and any and all parts of the Donbass vacated by Russia. They could, and would, have swiftly abandoned any pretence of neutrality with individual alliances with NATO members, followed at some time in future, just like Finland, formally joining NATO. Would Russia have summoned the desire to do it all over again after the leadership betrayal? Unlikely. It is impossible to imagine the catastrophic consequences of Putin’s peace proposals of March 2022 for Russia and the non Amerikastani vassal world. We all owe Boorish Johnson a debt of gratitude.

Precisely. And many of those naive agile 18-20 year old soldiers believe they’re immortal.

A lot of water has passed through the MSM sieve since the RF flushed Azov and their hostages into Red Cross buses, since the UN fact-finding mission
abandoned the Incident at Olenivka, and since the governments of Morocco, Croatia, and UK disowned poster POWs Brahim, Prebeg, Pinner and Aslin.
wikiwtf sez:

In November 2022, when trying to return to Ukraine, Aslin discovered a Schengen entry ban has been placed on his name by the German government, which resulted in the Polish border force denying him entry into the EU when arriving on a flight to Poland. Aslin believes this ban was placed in order to prevent re-use of his original passport captured by Russian authorities for a covert entry into EU.

According Petro Yatsenko, press secretary of The Budanov Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the last Ukraine-Russia POW exchange occured in August. Yatsenko believes, conditions in which Ukrainians are being held in Russia are much worse than the conditions in Ukraine’s crowded camps, and Russians exploit Ukrainian society’s mistrust of the MoD’s lackadaisical, diminishing reconnaissance.
Evidently, a hefty number of Ukrainian POWs have waived their rights to return: First battalion of former Ukrainian soldiers to join Russian forces (27.10.23)

The members either surrendered or were captured in battle before deciding to switch sides
[…]
The unit members told Sputnik news agency that they joined voluntarily after receiving Russian citizenship. TASS reported in March that around 70 former Ukrainian troops applied for Russian passports and expressed their wish to fight for Moscow. The size of the newly formed unit has not been made public.
According to Tishenko, the battalion will join the Kaskad operational-combat tactical group, which is under the command of the acting interior minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Colonel General Aleksey Dikiy. The location of its first combat deployment remains unknown.
The first reports regarding plans to form the unit surfaced in the media in February. In March, RT interviewed former Ukrainians soldiers who volunteered for the Russian Army, as around 100 Ukrainian POWs from Donbass reportedly wished to do so.

*** “If Russia thinks that it will sign a settlement agreement without reparations — it will not sign it. The Ukraine will never do this. And peace will not go, because someone has to pay these reparations. If not Russia, then who?” she said.***
Pretty obvious the Ukronazis (Neocon puppet-lice) do not intend to stop causing trouble, whatever happens. They cannot be cured, so the best thing may be to just exterminate the lot, as soon as possible and wherever they are.
And since NATO is fanatically determined to inflict WW3 and screw the entire world up anyway — Russia should strike first, and very decisively. Obviously, the USA, UK, Israel and Germany should be prioritised.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Front #Summary for 27 Nov 2023 by 18:59⚡️
🔹In #Kherson Direction, the storm at night and in the morning completely immobilised the work of artillery and aerial recon on both sides. On the ground, however, our forces continue their attempts to push the AFU out of #Krynki. Small groups have been completely dislodged from the southern landings, and there is an advance towards the centre of the village from the west. Our forces are also taking advantage that the AFU cannot transfer supplies and reinforcements from the right bank due to bad weather. The Ukrainian landing force, which was previously entrenched on the left bank near the railway bridge, is again trying to advance from the floodplain towards #Krynki, ours repulsed the attacks.
🔹In #Zaporozhye Direction, our army foiled another attempt by the AFU to attack our positions near #Verbovoye. The enemy retreated under heavy artillery fire. Building on their success, ours launched a counterattack and captured Ukrainian militants. Our forces resumed active attempts to regain lost positions near #Rabotino, but so far, without success.
🔹In the #Donetsk Direction, the AFU command is trying to stabilise the situation, but there is a feeling that the Ukrainian public has started to be prepared for “difficult decisions”. The head of the Avdeyevka Military Administration stated that the number of Russian fighters in the direction is “off the scale”, and the Coke Plant is almost destroyed. On the northern flank, our forces are indeed advancing to the northeast of the Coke Plant. They are also fighting with renewed vigour for #Stepovoye, although they have had to withdraw from the eastern outskirts, which the AFU are literally pouring fire on. On the southern flank, our fighters are storming the AFU positions in the area of #Severnoye, as well as developing their success near the industrial zone. They are consolidating their positions and moving on. Unfortunately, the heavy shelling of #Gorlovka continues.
🔹In #Bakhmut Direction, heavy fighting is ongoing for positions near #Kleshcheyevka and #Andreyevka. The intensity has been reduced due to the rains, and the AFU, taking advantage of the lull, is transferring reserves.
🔹In #Svatovo Direction, the AFU counterattacked near #Ivanovka and #Sinkovka, as well as near #Dibrova and #Belogorovka. They had no success, but suffered serious losses. At #Chervonopopovka our army was already on attack, and we managed to advance.

Outliers are not the mode. Inspiring stories of elders still accomplishing great physical feats, but there’s a reason why the saying goes, “Youth will have its day.” Besides, being cannon fodder for criminals is a terribly poor reward at the end of this real life tragedy. There’s nothing to celebrate here, both young and old should run away from these political ghouls.
Keep going on about such stories if you need to feel vital. I myself would rather keep perspective. 🙂 This SMO is winding down and demographics ensures it. Any further Western mal-advice and we are into a genocidal conscription — and should start saying so with fingers pointing fully at the West. The fight is over, time to let Ukraine concede.

@ukraina_ru
The conflict is gaining momentum: Zelensky has removed another protege of Zaluzhny
Every day the conflict between the dictator of the Kyiv regime and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is becoming stronger, but Zelensky understands perfectly well that Washington will not allow him to directly remove General Zaluzhny.
That is why he began to clear out the commander-in-chief’s entourage. As Ukropsky Fresh writes, this time the commander of the Sumy operational-tactical group, Major General Osipchuk, who did not hide his sympathy for General Zaluzhny, was fired.
He was replaced by Major General Alexey Otserklevich , who spent most of his military career in the 93rd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces “Kholodny Yar”. After his “victory” in the 2019 elections, Zelensky appointed Otserklevich head of the State Security Department of Ukraine, giving him the rank of major general. From this moment on, Otserklevich is a protege of the leader of the Kyiv regime, unquestioningly carrying out any instructions from the Office of the President.
