Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

Two Middle East Outlooks

Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor and dimwit, had written a laudation of his own and his bosses foreign policy for the November print edition of Foreign Affairs. The piece was finalized before the war in Palestine had begun.

The Sources of American Power
A Foreign Policy for a Changed World

Excerpts:

Indeed, although the Middle East remains beset with perennial challenges, the region is quieter than it has been for decades.

The progress is fragile, to be sure. But it is also not an accident.

[The president's] approach returns discipline to U.S. policy. It emphasizes deterring aggression, de-escalating conflicts, and integrating the region through joint infrastructure projects and new partnerships, including between Israel and its Arab neighbors. And it is bearing fruit.

This disciplined approach frees up resources for other global priorities, reduces the risk of new Middle Eastern conflicts, and ensures that U.S. interests are protected on a far more sustainable basis. Challenges remain. The Israeli-Palestinian situation is tense, particularly in the West Bank, but in the face of serious frictions, we have de-escalated crises in Gaza and restored direct diplomacy between the parties after years of its absence.

Alastair Crooke, who has personally negotiated prisoner exchanges between Hamas and Israel, has published a rather bleak outlook.

Escalations Cannot Be Stopped – The White House Is Rattled; Escalations Might All Fuse Into ‘One’
The reality of the necessity of war is permeating widely the consciousness of the Arabic and Islamic world.

It is no coincidence that Netanyahu flourished a map of Israel during his General Assembly address last month in which Israel dominated from the River to the Sea – and Palestine (indeed any Palestinian territory) was non-existent.

Tom Friedman in his NYT reflections may fear that just as NATO’s impaired performance in Ukraine has ruptured ‘the NATO myth’, so too the 7 October Israeli military and intelligence collapse and what happens in its wake in Gaza ‘might explode the entire pro-American alliance structure’ in the Middle East.

The confluence of two such humiliations might break the spine of western primacy. This seems to be the gist to Friedman’s analysis. (He likely is correct).

Hamas has succeeded in smashing the Israel deterrence paradigm: They were not afraid, the IDF proved far from invincible, and the Arab street mobilised as never before (confounding western cynics who laugh at the very notion of there being an ‘Arab Street’).

Well, that is where we are – and the White House is rattled.

This is what worries the White House Team. They are deeply unconfident that an Israeli invasion of Gaza will put ‘Humpty’ together again. Rather, they fear that events may go badly for the IDF, and further, that the images relayed across the Middle East of Israel using overwhelming force in a civilian urban setting will revolt the Islamic sphere.

In spite of western scepticism, there are signs that this insurrection in the Arab sphere is different, and resembles more the 1916 Arab Revolt that overthrew the Ottoman Empire. It is taking on a distinct ‘edge’ as both Shi’a and Sunni religious authorities state the duty of Muslims to stand with Palestinians. In other words, as the Israeli polity becomes plainly ‘Prophetical’, so the Islamic mood is turning eschatological, in its turn.

That the White House should be floating kites about ‘moderate’ Arab leaders pressing ‘moderate’ Palestinians to form an Israeli-friendly government in Gaza that would displace Hamas and impose security and order shows just how severed is the West from reality. Recall that Mahmoud Abbas, General Sisi and the King of Jordan (some of the region’s most pliable leaders) pointedly refused even to meet with Biden after the latter’s Israel trip.

The anger across the region is real and threatens ‘moderate’ Arab leaders, whose room for manoeuvre is now circumscribed.

So hotspots are proliferating, as are attacks on U.S. deployments around the region. Some in Washington claim to perceive an Iranian hand, and are hoping to expand a window for war with Iran.

Should Israel enter Gaza (and Israel may decide it has no choice but to launch a ground operation, given the domestic political dynamics and public sentiment), it is likely that Hizbullah will incrementally be drawn further in, leaving the U.S. with the binary option of seeing Israel defeated, or launching a major war in which all the hotspots become fused ‘as one’.

In a sense, the Israeli-Islamic conflict now may only be resolved in this kinetic way. All efforts since 1947 have seen the divide only deepen. The reality of the necessity of war is permeating widely the consciousness of the Arabic and Islamic world.

What will/could be the possible reaction from the US/Israel to an anouncement by Pres. Putin that any aircraft carrying bombs heading in the direction of Gaza will be downed by the Russian air force to prevent further civilian massacres.
Wha if Turkye and Iran annbounce their support for this move?

Re: unimperator | Oct 27 2023 23:14 utc | 247
I agree with unimperator about Gaza being ‘adopted’, except I don’t think the two-state solution will have 1947 lines, and I don’t think the US will agree to Gaza being called a ‘state’ yet (maybe in a few years). In regards to conflict, Gaza/Egypt will be the minor leagues, as the US will ensure Israel is a fortress on that side. The real action will be in Lebanon, Syria and Iran.
Re: Trubind1 | Oct 27 2023 23:33 utc | 251
I understand the mood is beyond that, but realities may impose exactly an enhanced status quo.
This is not what I wish for, just what I see as the most likely outcome. There are many factors that may change.

Essential Palestine Documentaries pt 2 is now available right here.
Much thanks to the anonymous human who collected, collated and curated these excellent docos many of which were first shown on al Jazeera. The only question that should provoke is ‘why is only one TV network interested in educating people on Palestine’?
These documentaries contain many sections, download all or as many as interest you, although at some stage space will fill up and necessitate me deleting some from the cloud to make room for others.
They are:
Killing the Count: the story of how the first UN negotiator on israel/Palestine, Count Bernadotte, was assassinated by the stern gang a mob of right-wing, fascist zionists led by future israeli prime minister yitzak shamir.
Route 181: Two film-makers, one Palestinian, one Israeli, trace a road which they have named 181 in memory of the 1948 UN resolution on Palestine, which once worked as the dividing line between Palestine and the so-called international zone, aka israel.
The Russell Tribunal on Palestine: This is an International People’s Tribunal created by a large group of citizens involved in the promotion of peace and justice in the Middle East. They went around the globe (mainly west natch) and got a bunch of ‘celebrity artists & journos’ (Roger Waters, Max Blumenthal), some ‘intelligentsia’ (Ahdaf Soueif), ‘documentarians’ (Ashraf Mashharawi, Ken Loach) and the occasional ‘oddity’ (eg england intelligence asset Paul Mason) to report on what they had observed in occupied Palestine.
The Lobby UK – Al Jazeera: Is the story of how england’s parliament was corrupted by zionists (including Oppenheimer heiress and labour party MP margaret hodge) with ‘donations’ and junkets to not only back israeli zionists unquestioningly but also to dismiss genuine socialists such as Mr Corbyn (whose parents first met each other at an anti-nazi rally in London’s east end) as ‘anti-semites’. That way two birds could be murdered with one stone, the end of resistance to zionism from politicians and the end of socialism in england.

What iffs… a waste of time. It is like predicting every wind gust within a storm. A storm can be seen building up and oce it has been observed for a bit, its general path can be seen. Once it is nearly on you, best course is to batten down as the only thing predictable is that it is going to be rough.

Let’s stop kidding ourselves.
The Muslim “resistance” have made a Gaza incursion a “red line” because they know that Israel has sufficient air power to flatten Gaza without sending in ground troops.
ie – Israel will slaughter thousands
more before announcing a ceasefire, and the “resistance” will claim victory because the Zionist entity didn’t conduct large-scale ground operations.

https://kunstler.com/clusterfuck-nation/chomp-chomp-gulp-gulp/
It’s been several years since it has become obvious that Jim “Biden Will Never Be The 2020 Nominee” Kunstler is either
1. Brain dead or
2. Controlled opposition.
In this article he doesn’t even make an attempt to conceal it.

“…the little slab of land on the Mediterranean at issue is in the possession of one group of people and another group of people wants to drive them out.”

He is,  of course,  right, if he admits that
1. The “little slab of land” is Gaza and that part of the West Bank still remaining to Palestine and
2. It is the zionazi pseudostate that wants to, and openly talks about, driving the Palestinians out to Sinai and Jordan so it can take over everything.

“There is no “two state solution” because there is only one place in that place.”

I agree. The one place is Palestine. It was always Palestine. The ziofilth are colonial oppressors of extremely  recent vintage.

“Islam won’t even go so far as to acknowledge that something happened there, or that it matters.”

It isn’t just “Islam”* saying so:
https://www.unz.com/article/what-really-happened-on-7th-october/
*15% of the Palestinians are Christians,  as is one of the main Palestinian resistance movements,  the PFLP. Kunstler is careful to avoid saying so either because he doesn’t know it or because it would spoil his narrative.

“The reason Israel is where it is is because Western Civ treated the Jews abominably in the 1930s and 40s. The result, establishing a state of Israel in its historic location, was a power move, of course, by the powers who won the Second World War, but it had the imprimatur of a sacred duty.”

Let’s unpack all the contentions in this paragraph:
1. The zionist project began in the 1890s, and the zios did the rounds of Eastern Europe demanding the governments of the day oppress their Jews to compel them to emigrate to Herzl’s planned Judenstaat.
2. The original zionist demand was for the Judenstaat to be situated in Uganda, but the Brutish colonial occupiers of Uganda refused to hand it over.
3. The Balfour Declaration was in 1917, granting a so called Jewish Homeland in Palestine. WWII ended, as even Kunstler might be aware, in 1945.
4. It was the Red Army that liberated Auschwitz and when it did, in Jan 1945, Aleksandr Werth’s reports were dismissed as “Red Propaganda”.
5. The zionists cooperated closely with the nazis through the 1930s (the Haavara Agreement), and the zionist terrorist outfit the Stern Gang wanted military assistance from Hitler to fight the British Mandate in Palestine during WWII.
6. One of the last surviving original zionists, Uri Avnery, has written that the zios themselves didn’t care anything about the so called Holocaust until after WWII.

“It looks like the Islamic nations that surround Israel like a child in an alligator pit have made the calculation that now is the time to gobble up the little interloper.”

The”Islamic nations” had been betraying Palestine for decades, normalising relations with the zionazi pseudostate, even allowing diplomatic relations,  while the zionazis routinely murdered Palestinian children, health workers, journalists, and random civilians,  turned Gaza into a concentration camp, planted illegal rabidly racist settler filth all over the West Bank, and instituted more overt apartheid than the South African regine ever did. The “little interloper” is a blood soaked American proxy which is paid $125 per second by the American Empire in subsidies, and that’s in normal times,  while being given total immunity and protection for its endless crimes,  including against America itself. And far from the “Islamic” nations ganging up on “Israel”, even the Vichy Fatah regime in the West Bank is doing all it can to block mass protests against the zionazi occupation and its genocide in Gaza.

“Jihad is in the offing.”

Define jihad, Kunstler. And while you’re at it, why did the zionazi pseudostate treat headchopping jihadi cannibals fighting Assad in its hospitals before said cannibals were driven out of south Syria? Why did ISIS, the most infamous “jihadi” gang of all, only once fire on a zionazi outpost….and promptly apologise, according to the zionists themselves?

“They could neutralize the command network of Hamas pretty much the same way they got the Black September ringleaders of the Munich Olympics massacre, 1972…”

The zios can’t even fight lightly armed HAMAS and IJ resistance fighters face to face. What makes Kunsty imagine they are the same as the zios of 1972?
Maybe the same mental delusion that makes him repeat that removing Joe Bidet is right round the corner?

Washington increasingly has little say in what can or can’t happen.
There’s a budget showdown looming, and without Beijing’s support, the US is bankrupt.
(Remember Yellen went to China just ahead of NATO summit, where it was made clear Ukraine wouldn’t become a member.)
Earlier in the thread, it was noted/ speculated that Israel wouldn’t risk major escalation before US naval assets are in place, which might take another 7-10 days. Which would leave one week to go before US stopgap financing ends. Interesting timing once again.

In the long run that may be right, but the US is definitely not bankrupt yet, and is willing to go “all-in” to support Israel. I wish it wasn’t so, but as a US citizen observing most people’s opinion, that’s the fact.
Israel doesn’t want to do a major ground invasion of Gaza. Israel will make minor incursions to win political points but won’t risk serious loss. The pretext of “eliminating Hamas” allows Israel to bomb Gaza forever. This is Israel’s main desire: genocide and ethnic cleansing through bombs, deprivation, starvation, disease.
If Hezbollah’s response is based on major ground invasion, then that may never happen.
IMO, Hezbollah should have launched an offensive shortly after Al Asqa Flood, when Israel would have been so scared it may have begged for a cease-fire. That time has passed. Big-brother US is here, and unless someone is willing to take on their aircraft carriers etc, the US will impose gun-boat diplomacy.

In the long run that may be right, but the US is definitely not bankrupt yet, and is willing to go “all-in” to support Israel. I wish it wasn’t so, but as a US citizen observing most people’s opinion, that’s the fact.

I can’t believe that my ‘plan’ for a Levantine Federation is original but I can’t think of any particular source.

Ah! Thxs. Well, if it’s not something already on the table in the region, as it were, seems to me that the heavies there need to be involved, not just the ones immediately around Israel, so that means Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others. I hope that Russia-China diplomacy is helping them come together as a Region. Basically, I believe they should determine as a bloc the territorial borders of the various States therein and come up with an offer for Israel. This needs to be out of the UN’s hands who never should have voted in this country against all the Arab nation votes. Very bad. The US and Russia and China can have influence of course but the Region itself should
a) constitute itself as such by self-generated Treaty and Declaration and then determine the territories on its own without any outside input or interference.
Plus: those US bases have gotta go!

@ smuks | Oct 28 2023 0:24 utc | 268 with the timing of the fan blades hitting the shit…grin
I am reading that major escalation is taking place in the ME as we spew our textual white noise which will change the blade/shit dynamics.
Today’s US markets had the Dow down over a percent with gold up over a percent and oil up over two percent as examples of the jumps today.
We have all weekend to speculate what will happen to financial markets next week. US politics, events in Occupied Palestine/the greater ME and Ukraine should give substantial fuel to a US market crash….while China cruises along…
The shit show continues until it doesn’t and maybe bookies are making odds now.

I have just used barfly tools to block the hasbara plant at Oct 27 2023 23:59 utc | 262 who is attempting to bring this blog into disrepute with his blatant judeophobia. I know that MoA barflies in the main feel as I do that occupied Palestine’s issues have nothing to do with race or religion being as (i) the identical genetic profiles of Palestinians and descendants of those zealots who fled Judea/Canaan in AD67 and (ii) the numbers of practising followers of judaism who do not support zionism, they oppose it.
This is a conflict between colonial oppressors and an indigenous population, not a determination of which group of humans is ‘better’ or ‘worse’.
Nothing more need be said I reckon.

Thanks for the feedback James. I appreciate it, If not necessarily agreeing with your opinion.
I did read science fiction when younger. I also studied science at university level physics.
I could have been better at it. But I got political instead. The early 80’s. I’ve written about that at some times in comments.
I haven’t read any science fiction for about 20 years now. There are others who probably have read a lot more on these boards.
I will state that I’ve learnt that reality is scientifically a lot more stranger than fiction. By orders of magnitude. It has to do with the statistical fact that a very few people write fiction but there are many more who have actual realities they live and experience.
And the few can’t possibly imagine all the actual realities of every human life.
I’ll leave that there perhaps for a future debate.
So here is something that I have cogitated for a few days – I wonder WHY would the Zionists of the Collective Waste be so interested in destroying thousands of civilians half of whom are children, many babies and soon to be newborn in such a small area ?
After all it’s just bringing opprobrium down upon their demented heads?
I said earlier that it’s to do with propaganda and religious FICTION created to control Peoples.
So it is possible that some of the believers of the FICTION of such prophecies ACTUALLY believe and ACT by it!
As we all know, the Bible, a Story Book, says that the old messiah was expected and the Powers of The Time instigated a program to seek out and destroy that child. You know the stories.
I can only speculate that there are some who believe that this new messiah is due and is expected to be born NOW in Palestine and that’s why they have been collected in a concentration camp and are destroying the civilian population especially the children and New Born ….
Religion, Fiction, Science Fiction – who knows? But it’s a possibility isn’t it? No matter how insane.
On the science of the thousands of Millenia of the Earths existence and life on it, that history writ large in geology and palaeontology – SCIENCE FACT – it is obvious many extinction events have occurred. We know Plate tectonics are real. We know or have a good guess that astronomical events take place. We saw a couple of decades ago a comet landing on a major planet in our solar system.
We know because we can statistically calculate by the size and age of the Universe that there must have been an almost infinite number of planets that resembled our own. That some would have developed life like ours and also thinking beings that would have developed technologies. Not even able to imagine other planets where different life forms might have become as able as us. We can calculate some might have survived thousands and tens of thousands of years and still died out. We know of stellar events which are so massive and destructive that not just solar systems but whole galaxies were extinguished by such events. The Super Novae, Black Holes, Super Black holes across billions of years innumerable galaxies and the vastness of the Universe…
The only things we know are G and c and a few other constants , so No I don’t believe there is a faster than c. Because it has never been seen or proved. It’s mostly imaginary a FICTION.
I don’t believe in Time Travel because it has never been seen or proved. Where are all these time travellers appearing and disappearing daily? It’s a FICTION.
I haven’t seen a God and Heaven and Helll and afterlife because it is a FICTION.
But I can tell you more people believe in these FICTIONS , Religious more so than science versions and in recent generations plain FANTASY !
So are there these who have decided to annihilate a whole population because they believe in one of these stories?
Serious question to the whole bar. Is that the craziness we are observing in this mass slaughter of innocents- babies being obviously completely innocent- in this madness that is being supported by the demented Collective Waste?
What should we believe as sentient beings with Agency over our survival as a species over the next Millenia or 100 millennia? Because for sure the Earth will be subject to the primordial forces and events that have been going on for billions of our years and the existence of the universe as far as we understand it so far.
Much better minds than my poor understanding have cogitated on such questions for much longer than I ever will or can.

Indeed, it was the moment for regional resistance forces to move into Occupied Palestine. When it did not happen, it was clear that the arabs, once again self-defeated themselves, refusing to act as sovereign. As former soviet navy was destroyed by the capitalist compradore class in Moscow (most of them dual nationals with a deep hatred for Russia altough they imitate patriotism with some talent) the only gun boat diplomacy belongs to the empire of chaos. Russia cannot even control the Black Sea anymore. Once the zionist entity achieve its genocide, the other arab states wil be next (and its leaders will not be spared) Iran will have to try to maintain Iraq as a buffer zone, while facing Nato expanding in Central Asia and spreading chaos into Russia, China and northern Iran. The fate of Palestine is the fate of humankind. At least they stood up to those demons like men and women of honor.

*** More to the point is how Shiah Hezbollah failed to make common cause with Sunni Hamas.***
Given how things have been shaping, Hezbollah forces have to defend Lebanon and western Syria.
With attacks likely by Israeli and USA (perhaps with some of its vassals) forces, plus jihadists from Idlib, that’s quite a large area to guard.
Officially sending a Hezbollah force into the immediate Gaza conflict might not make much difference, but would certainly be cited by the enemy as their excuse to attack Lebanon and Syria.
Syria is mainly Sunni.

There is no doubt: not only We, as Homo Sapiens, need God, The One and Absolute Cause of our Existence. We are so idiots, that our only hope is that our bad actions will be forgiven by a supra essential projection of the bad things that we are doing:
This is Us: We did destroy many civilizations by our greed.

Thanks Malenkov and Cynic for your remarks. It’s not a sectarian, fitna issue, resistance is the only important vextor here. Plus lebanese Hezbollah is absolutely inclusive, with christian resisitance factions involved, as well as communists, even a few european marxists and socialists (those not few not controlled by zionist and NATO networks) are invited in Beirut to resistance forums. Plus Palestine is essential to Hezbollah’s doctrine. But they were not able to move at this pivotal moment, now is too late, other than symbolic attacks. Sadly they will be next, and they know it, of course. The reason why they waited is NOT to avoid another war, it is coming anyway, nobody can stop it. And they will anyway have to face a multifront attack. The zionists destroyed Syria because of 2006, they needed to squeeze Lebanon, it is complete now. May God help them.

malenkov @259. Well, thank you. Samuel Clemens is one of my favorite satirists. SP? Not to be confused with Satanists.

I 100% am. It’s unfair that you can only get a degree in Marxism in very limited places. I had to read a bunch of dense text all my own.

Check out the SEP. Good school. Not revolutionaries, but a good school, nonetheless.

The cause of all the problem we have between us is We: Homo sapiens. All the religions try to make the human conscious about the spirit, the life that is our self-identity. God makes their thoughts to be free, that is we are Free: if God makes us necesarios, He had make us determinados, but are contingentes, possible: It’s a good paradox: God wants to be Free all His creatures because it is bad mood to thing they are not free God

All of this discussion about humans. The problem is that technology has advanced but human nature has not. We only live until we die and no one has come back to tell us what’s in the other side. And there’s no hearses with luggage racks.
