It was started (in modern times) – as far as I know – by Germans in WW 1, under the advice and supervision by a Jewish German scientist, Fritz Haber – who later on received the Nobel prize for invention of the method to extract ammonia from the air (s.c. Haber-Bosch method) – it also prolonged the WW by years, because it made Germany independant from the guano, which was imported until that invention, from Chile. Britain imposed naval blockade and Germany would be finished much earlier if not for the synthetic ammonia.

Although the US is said to have made Netanyahu back down ever-so-slightly about a bit of water, I reckon this is only a “good cop, bad cop” routine.
A choice taken due to observable and hidden losses, both of which probably had several “Butts on the ground” of imbedded US troops. The attack was under direct US surveillance and possible US Command. They were using US tactics anyway.

It looks very much as if the Israelis are about to level that hospital where there are many thousands sheltering (apparently they have been warned).

I do not think I am smarter than the bar and certainly not smarter or more capable than Syed Hassan Nasrallah.
Four possibilities for what lies ahead.
1. Best deal Israel can possibly get is what China and Russia are positing. 1967 borders basically. That is the best they can do and they will accept negotiations on that basis only some time after they are driven into sea.
2. Nuclear. Too many ways this happens.
3. Uncle Sugar to the rescue. Israel is counting on it. Uncle doesn’t have the mojo.
4. Total defeat for Israel. Every chance for Israel to escape such for X amount of time only leads back to defeat.
Restoration of the status quo ante just is not happening. Israel is losing any remaining good Israelis. Their few friends abroad are progressively isolated. The global population sick of Zionist shit is good and done. Israel’s few friends are all aged or very stupid Americans.

Thanks fanto 162 for the background on use of nerve gas. Fully familiar with the sequellae and for the ammonia based it is a very painful and ugly way to die. Also, those disabled by such gases, experiencing excruciatingly disabling and painful neuropathy for the rest of their short lives. Since hard to control the airbourne vectors, often the on site perpetrators are also affected. Only politically leaders who are clinically insane or late stage Alzheimer’s would consider such options.

james, went back and watched the video. Very detailed history of Gaza from the 2005 Palestine elections on. He then talked of his dilemma thinking about the moral site of the Hamas Oct 7 raid. For some reason, most appear to take Israel’s word for what occurred, but still I stopped the video there and thought about it a bit. Then saw Karl’s link and had a look there.
The morals of war? The ethics and morals of those locked in a concentration camp – a ghetto…
An outbreak from a maximum security ghetto where all had known nothing but persecution… an outbreak lead by a highly trained militia group followed by many angry inmates of the ghetto.
I have watched the bouts and tournaments of a number of styles of martial arts in which there are rules and referrers. I have also watched the no rules, no referee cage fights. Everything goes, knees to the nuts, the works. Winner is the last man standing or until one clearly signals defeat.
