Palestine Open Thread 2023-237

Only for news & views directly related to the conflict in Palestine.

News of the day:

Gregg Carlstrom @glcarlstrom – 4:51 UTC · Oct 12, 2023

MbS spoke last night with Iran's president Raisi (!). First call ever. From Saudi readout: MbS "expressed deep concern for the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza" and "underscored the kingdom's unwavering stance in standing up for the Palestinian cause."
HRH Crown Prince Receives Phone Call from Iranian President

The call was likely in response to U.S. plans for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza:

The US is in active talks with Israel and Egypt to establish "safe passage" corridors for civilians in Gaza to flee ongoing Israeli airstrikes, the White House said Wednesday amid an expected ground offensive in the besieged enclave.

"We're actively discussing this with our Israeli and our Egyptian counterparts, we support safe passions for civilians. Civilians are not to blame for what Hamas has done. They didn't do anything wrong," National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told reporters at the White House.

"We are actively working on this with Egyptian and our Israeli counterparts. Civilians are protected under the laws of armed conflict, and they should be given every opportunity to avoid the fighting," he added.

The current open thread for other issues is here.

Please stick to the topic. Contribute facts. Do not attack other commentators.

Look like US in a hurry to widen war, no way Israel would have done this at this time.

US indeed frightened of populations in UAE m, Jordan & Qatar. It’s another retarded juvenile move.

🏴‍☠️🇮🇱 United States Could Be Behind Hamas Weapons — Expert
With its connections to black weapons markets worldwide, the CIA could be behind Hamas’s unprecedented attacks in Israel, says Boris Rozhin, an expert with the Center for Information and Geopolitical Research.
He told that the agency utilized a similar playbook in Syria and Yemen and that it would be impossible to obtain anti-air and anti-tank artillery in the numbers held by Hamas without the agency becoming aware of it.

Safe passage for civilians to where, exactly? Egypt won’t take them, and I doubt any other countries will either, at least without huge subsidies…America?

The US is obviously trying to help Israel purge the entire Gaza strip of its Arab population, by shoving them all off into refugee camps in the Sinai Desert. If they are sane, the Egyptians won’t be thrilled by this, since they already have an overpopulated country of poor people, and offloading all those terrorists into their country won’t make them more stable. However, it’s likely neither the US nor Israel have told the Egyptians they’re going to ethnically cleanse Gaza, and both are likely offering significant money to Egypt to run the refugee camps. Enough money offered in bribes, in fact, that the Egyptians can’t resist it.

You mean the deeply corrupt Egyptian leadership of course. The general population is extremely pro-Palestine and this will help put a block on such disgusting machinations. Even the US puppet King of Jordan has had to change his tune in the face of the mood of the Jordanian population. The same with Saudi Arabia.

Here are a few in living color barfing up all the undigested ancient barbarism of the tribe. I especially like the fat old female monster among them.
Clips showing both protests really hammer home the right and wrong sides of this conflict. Not in a moral sense, although that is apparent, but in a historical sense.
These people and their genocidal impulses are truly of the backwards past. As historically backward and unreal as Hitler himself. May they share the same fate!

“Ocasio-Cortez says pro-Palestinian demonstrations should be “shut down” as opposition to Israeli war crimes grows.”
False flag “leftists” of the US endorse the genocide so fervently that even a peaceful opposition to it is totally intolerable to them. With a “left” like this, who needs fascism?
First they prevented any spoken opposition to the ethnic cleansing of Donbass, now opposition to an even more extreme form of ethic cleansing in Gaza must never be spoken of.
The first amendment is well and truly a dead letter. There is no democracy in the west.

This is an inherent issue with theocracies and one reason to shun them in a modern world where believers and unbelievers must coexist.
Belief systems have a inherent hypocrite problem. Theocracies take the negative impact of hypocrisy on society to the next level: by definition, a person whose character is prone to hypocrisy is not a desireable person for positions of power over others.
Just the other month there were vidoes leaked out of Gilan in IR occupied Iran where the bastards in charge of the morality police were filmed (numerous films) conducting in orgies of sodomy with other men. Did the IR occupying Iran hang them in public? NO.
You asked about the lessons of Jesus son of Mary for Jews. I say there are lessons there for all of us.
I mentioned the role of the ideologue Judas whose *ideological drive* exceeded his *faith*. The ‘betrayal’ of Jesus by Judas is a warning of the consequenes of introducing ideology into religion: ultimately results in a betrayal of faith.
An ideologically driven embrace of religion (whichever) by necessity will entail sidestepping or overstepping the demands of the belief system. This is structural and inevitable.
It sucks that the struggle against European colonialism and the new brave world globalist assault on Middle East is not spearheaded by secular groups.
That is the greater evil done to M.E. by Western powers: they went after the intellectual revolutionaries and nurtured the ones that unquestionably obey *braying pulpits*. (Have you noted the uncanny resemblances between your head rabbis and the akhound in Iran? Seperated at birth..)

Initial attack by Hamas was surprisingly effective and coordinated, IDF’s image was thoroughly shaken, they had lot of casualties and looked very weak.
Who ever planned this (and I smell Iran), had more than enough brains. So they also could assume Israels response will be viscous and bloodthirsty.
So, IMO, IDF bombing Gaza like never before is probably step 2 in Hamas plans.
We’ll see what comes in step 3.

Tunnels are effective when unknown, traps when know. Tunnel systems require electricity, whether with batteries (which are a finite source), or generators (which require fuel and ventilation). Ventilation in general is a requirement.
Gaza is a small parcel of land.
Current destruction of Gaza serves 3 purposes. Revenge, signed divorce papers to Hamas, and damage to the ingress/egress, power, fuel, communication, and ventilation of the tunnels.
Assuming no one else joins the fight: next steps likely are gradual push to create a dead-zone around Gaza from north and east. Next IDF will have to figure out how to filter general population from combatants. This will require a cleared zone for inspection, interrogation/exit-interview, and dispatch. Hamas can not allow this to occur as its success leaves them to die in their tunnels, so this zone will be under assault by them.
Someone earlier said the USN is fighting from an outdated manual and novel forms of drone swarms are heading its way. Sober minds will note that the introduction of ‘novelties’ is not afforded only to one side of this equation. We’re likely to see in this war the normalization of the use of micronukes. These may first be used by IDF to destroy the Hamas in their tunnels.

For sure Hamas knew they and the strip were going to get the living bejeezus bombed out of them.
This is nothing new, it’s a mere repeat of past history – operation cast lead, and others always raised the spectre of Gaza being flattened and with a good degree of actual flattening taking place.
They’ve definitely factored the worst into their planning, and a reduction of Gaza into rubble is par for the course.

The Palestinians are the world’s master tunnelers.
Reviewing the history of Gazan tunneling going back 30 years, Palestinian tunnel “operators” have networks of generators, ventilation, lighting, even electrical elevators of goods lifting.
I’ve seen the israelis throw everything at those tunnels over decades – ground penetrating radar, seismic detection, thermal imaging, flooding, bombing, the works.
Three decades later it’s obvious they’ve comprehensively failed to turn the Gazan tunnels into “traps”.

I enjoy reading your commentary but I have noticed recently that you always refer to Gaza as an “open air prison.”
I think “open air concentration camp” is a more apt description.
Although many persons in prison here in the outlaw empire are imprisoned without justification afaics, in general only criminals go to prison. The people of Gaza are mostly just trying to live their lives and are not criminals. So wonder if you’d consider this argument. Thnx
~~
Re Crooke’s comment on how the zionist state needs a weak usa to carryout its project, its gamble may be: weaken it, the usa, but since the printing presses will keep ejecting for some time, it will be enabled to conquer more lands and still find a new host.
~~
BTW i have no argument with persons practicing Judaism. To the contrary. I do object to fascism in all its disguises and manifestations.

In general regarding past efforts: total war is different from police action.

Hamas’ strategy here is resting on a hope and a gambit:
One is that AoR enters into the picture. That would change everything as things will quickly become existential for Israel. Gaza, like Ukraine will fade into the background. We would be discussing, God forbid, destruction of other cities in Israel and the neighboring countries.
The other is the gambit of leaving only the avenue of genocide — literal genoice not tweeter (currently known as x) propaganda genocide — open to IDF, which will -not- be permitted by the Zionist Project’s stakeholders. That would stop the IDF and Hamas will go on to live another day.
I think any sort of ‘house to house’ urban warfare will be limited to a sufficient band around Gaza. There is absolutely no reason for IDF to go deeper. They just need a buffer zone to process refugees.

OK, you know about the tunnels. What about water? I would assume it is pretty normal for anyone, or at least many someones, in Gaza to be somewhat prepared for a shutoff of water. So do the tunnelers have cisterns and caverns full of water? WIthout water Gaza cannot hold out long. Only hours without water and a human is in rough shape.
For that matter do we even know for sure Israel did cut off all water? Or is that like the on again off again Hezbollah participation?

seems reasonable. i probably have a us centric view, as you point out, lots of people in the US are innocent of the crimes they go to prison for, dunno about the rest of the world. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that the Palestinians are guilty or deserved to be in this open air concentration camp.

The IDF was decisively beaten in attacking the Hezbollah tunnel network in 2006. The Gaza tunnel network is much more extensive and siege ready.
Blowing up the buildings above the tunnel network only makes the defense much more effective – rubble is an effective fortress.

Gaza is tiny parcel of land, come on. Viet Cong! In the jungles of Vietnam. Hizbollah! In the hills and valleys of Lebanon! Gaza has an area roughly the size of Brooklyn.
Gaza: An urban area of buildings, streets, and open fields. We safely assume tunnels don’t open up under the street. That leaves the fields and the buildings. The basement of of all these demolished buildings can be ingress/egress points. I don’t see how a pancaked concrete building is provides a fighting advantage to combatants holed up in a tunnel below it.
Sure, it keeps IDF away, until they starve to death in there.

No power, water or fuel to Gaza until hostages freed, says Israel minister

Israel has said there will be no humanitarian break to its siege of the Gaza Strip until all its hostages are freed, amid growing concern over dwindling water, food and fuel supplies after a fifth night of bombardment.
The energy minister, Israel Katz, wrote on social media that no “electrical switch will be turned on, no water hydrant will be opened and no fuel truck will enter” until the “abductees” were free. The United Nations experts have condemned the Israeli bombardment as “collective punishment”, which is a war crime.

Negotiating…
Guess the brave IDF won’t be going in after all.
Give it a week.

So, IMO, IDF bombing Gaza like never before is probably step 2 in Hamas plans.
We’ll see what comes in step 3.

I think from what they’ve shown, Hamas is incredibly percipient and acts with a good deal of foresight. What they seem to be planning for, as others are saying, is a defense against an IDF ground invasion of Gaza. Recently, Hamas said they will be forced to use “previously unseen weapons” on the Zionists if they continue trying to flatten Gaza and of course try to perform a ground assault. With tunnels and extensive preparation, I think the IDF loses 3-4x the amount of fighters than Hamas, even if the latter is wiped out. And this is only the case if Hezbollah and the rest of the AoR do not endeavor to join the fight.

I discovered Simplicius has done an update combining Ukraine with Palestine. Here’s the comment I made:
Wow. Late to the party again. I mused that Gaza might become Bakhmut. Hamas seems to want the IOF to enter the massively rubbled urban zone where there’s no where for vehicles to maneuver at all. As for weaponry, Hamas clearly gained what was at the military outposts and police stations they attacked and held long enough to loot. Plus, they likely stripped the Merkava tanks they knocked out of everything possible, including its main gun ammo. Hamas and its allies have had years to excavate a system of tunnels similar to those in Syria and knew what the Zionists would do in retaliation. Several reports spoke of Hamas’s surprise at the ease of their initial assault that was only aimed at the near border zone, not to try and link with the West Bank. The goal seems to be to draw the IOF into Gaza onto the ground of Hamas’s choosing where it will have the advantage. Also, I’m rather certain that along with the tunnels are wells so the cutting of water supplies won’t be as critical as perceived.
Politically, the fracture between the main Zionist factions seems to be welded for the moment, but as you note there’s lots of anger at Netanyahu, and the casualty toll will only escalate that angst. Losing thousands of troops fighting on Hamas and its allies’s terms will cause the weld to break. The bluster aimed at Iran as usual forgets Iran’s formidable abilities and the fact that it has yet to finish avenging Soleimani’s murder. Two carriers might fill that bill. As for the Zionists’s industrial ability in the logistic area, they are weak. On the economic front, a long conflict will badly damage the Zionists. Much of this I wrote about here, https://karlof1.substack.com/p/will-gaza-become-palestines-bakhmut
Russia’s MFA and President Putin have provided lots of evidence convicting the Outlaw US Empire and West generally as being the cause of the current crisis for their inaction on forcing the Zionists to negotiate and implement the numerous international agreements aimed at providing for a Palestinian state. Sami al-Arian told Spencer Ackerman:

Palestinians are not leaving anymore. Even if they get killed. Look what you see them do to Gaza. Do you see any mass flood of people trying to get to Egypt? No. If we have to die, we’ll die in our homes. We’re not going anywhere. This fantasy that the Israeli right has, that they’ll find some sort of strategic timing when they can push the Palestinians to Jordan, that’s not going to happen. That’s just a fantasy. The Palestinians will stay and endure what they have to endure.

You know, this is b.s. Hamas is calling the shots for Palestinians. Hamas is very clear on the outcome acceptable in a “negotiation”. An outcome that they would actually honor.
Israelis and Palestinians need to -muzzle- the n% of their respective population that insists on maximalist outcomes based on “scripture”.
Both these people need to put in power parties that are committed to a just and reasonable lasting outcome.
It is not objectively acceptable nor factual to make claims of one-sided misdeed, errors, and bad faith.
Since this (manufactured) conflict between the Jews and Arabs has affected and continues to affect everyone on this planet (possibly even in a kinetic sense), narratives that are piggy backing on top of this conflict while pursuing orthogonal (or allegedly coupled) concerns are disengenuous.
Both sides are responsible. Both peoples have the duty to -muzzle- their extremists. Then the adults and the sane can sit down and negotiate, in good faith, to find an optimal outcome.

The world has changed a lot in the last couple of years especially since the start of Russia’s SMO. The west in its hubris has thrown all fig leaves aside and the blatant imperialism is there for all to see. Borrel’s garden and jungle, open endorsement of Nazism, Israel’s open endorsement of Nazism.
Israel has now tied itself to the sinking ship of the west and knows it can do anything whatsoever in full view of the western public and they don’t care about what the so called global south/multi-polar world thinks.
Hamas pulled off something far more complex than anything they have done before and with a professionalism they have not before shown.
Israels response will likely be the same, far more viscous and with less care about what the outside world thinks. Like Nazism, the Anglo European world will back anything Israel can/will now do.
