There won’t be a Ukrainian Russia peace deal as it would only take the pressure off China, Russia would be more able to devote resources to the Pacific theater. Unless the USA wasn’t serious about committing to war in the Pacific, or it reassessed and is backing down.
Maybe if there is a peace deal btwn Russia and Ukraine it’s a sign that the USA has got its head together and will lose gracefully, join the multipolar world as a privileged member with clout rather than as a defeated superpower having to start from scratch.
Still time for the first, but they’ll have to get the neocons out, and they’re Nazis, when has anyone gotten Nazis out of the way without having to kill them? None of this looks good from my vantage. Only good option I can see is productive global corporate capitalism, the part that makes all the non-military things that make the world go round, pays the Nazis to take a hike.

In response to bevin@99,
It’s certainly a misrepresentation, but I wouldn’t say it’s completely detached from objective reality. The military potential of the Nazi block would have been surpassed by the Soviet Union over the long term, if it wasn’t already by 41, and since the Nazis relied on aggressive expansion just to keep the artificially inflated balloon that they had in the air, they didn’t really have any options to maintain parity with the Soviets while also staying clear of Soviet lands and strategic interests. While I’m sure the Soviets would have been content to just watch on as the Europeans committed collective suicide without them, I don’t doubt that there would sooner or later come a time when the Third Reich was weak enough, the Red Army strong enough and some heinous act committed by the Nazis (of which there was already an ever expanding list) sufficiently intolerable enough to prompt the Soviets to enter into hostilities with the Nazi block by their own volition.
I would expect that any German strategic thinker worth half a wurst would see this scenario coming from a mile away, and the only possibility of avoiding the inevitable would be to terminally cripple Soviet development before the window of opportunity closed, possibly, for good. If we allow for this interpretation, then a self-defense plea isn’t far behind. The major obstacle is that it doesn’t change who the villain of the story is, at least not without some sort of entitlement or racial superiority clause meant to exempt specific states and individuals from ever facing the consequences of their actions. The Third Reich was an unsustainable and inhuman mess, and to argue its right to self-defense is to argue its right to exist, both as a stand-alone entity and as greater than the right of states and peoples which it trampled.
The situation with Ukraine and with the US itself has a lot of eerie big picture parallels with the situation back then, almost like a modern Hollywood reboot of a washed out franchise.

Malenkov. You are right. That is a date that I never think of.
Milites- I can smell the Kool Aid from here.
There is no evidence at all that the Soviet Union was ever doing anything more than trying to deal with continuous aggression in a multitude of forms. It did not want war but it was well aware that large and influential parts of the NATO/Imperial establishment did. They were intent on destroying the USSR by any means. And they succeeded.
The same interests are now hard at work destroying themselves and their own countries. The common factor is that now, as they were then, they are deluded and hypnotised by their own arrogance- it is they, not the ‘socialists’ that you deride who are the true believers in a weird and irrational ideology derived in equal parts from laissez faire economics and a sub Darwinian racism.
They believe that the fads of late C19th imperialism are eternal verities.
It was not among the things that they taught in Camberley but the plain truth is that the relatively hegemoin power of the United States in 1945 stemmed not from any systemic advantage but from the simple fact that it had come through the Thirty Year Crisis, from 1914-1945 unscathed and fat from the profits that it had made from its allies. While every country in Europe had been bankrupted and devastated, their manpower decimated and bank vaults emptied, the US was virtually untouched.

@ English Outsider, §80:
As in Syria, so in the Ukraine, it is really England that is pushing this war, using America as muscle.
It´s well described in Michael Oswald´s 2017 film “The Spider´s Web”.

First, I also am reading English Outsider as a first commenter when opening MoA daily. (that is if EO has an entry)
Secondly, I am trying to figure out what , who constitutes “England” in your comment about England using USA as muscle. The democracy in England is, seeing from outside, a solid democracy, with huge tradition of serious debate. How come than, that there is somehow united, all parties agreed upon, idea to mis-use USA as their muscle? Is it another group behind, which constitutes “England” in your comment?
Third – I like the system of using “@” and “&” in the heading. I will adopt it myself.

It is truly pathetic seeing posts defending the betrayal of the soviet peoples by their politicians, even going so far as to suggest the series of gross malfeasances and coups which precipitated the fall of the union had something to do with the desires of the governed (liberals were always a minority everywhere in the USSR, even in Poland), on a forum dedicated to the pursuit of historical truth.
Posters regurgitating such ahistorical bullshit are doing a very important part of capital’s dirty work for free.

One would expect that any country’s parliament giving a standing applause to a member of the Waffen SS would cause all the Jewish organizations and Israel to go completely ballistic, and yet not a word of complaint. Seems the greater strategy in Ukraine is more important to them so that they now ignore glorifying the Waffen SS, would appear the Zionists are in this up to their necks.

You beat me to it for posting the link. It was only a matter of time before the Jewish Lobby intervened – as they had to. The display in the House of Commons was outrageous and engineered as optics for the Canadian Ukrainian community and Trudeau’s Deputy Prime Minister. The exiled Nazis wield a great deal of political clout in this country and it is eye-opening to see it come out so brazenly in the light of day.

As much as I appreciate their comments on the ins-and-outs of this war, Milites is a dyed in the wool Bircher. Fervently, rabidly even, anticommunist.
When I get accused of being a “tankie” (a ridiculous assertion, BTW) by morons here in the states for telling the other side of the story (as I do on Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, Yugoslavia, Haiti, Ukraine, Iraq, etc.) I always feel compelled to let my inquisitor know that I’m in no way a state communist, but am an enthusiastic Anti-Anti-Communist (as has been any honest historian including William Blum). Anticommunism was yesteryear’s Western anti-terruizmz, Bush/Cheney/Center-right Obama/Clinton style.

Milites – Do you have an explanation for why there is suddenly a MASSIVE influx of Venezuelan immigrants at the US southern border when before (as in the past 25 YEARS) there was virtually ZERO? Could it be Trump and the far-right Rethugs w/ their willing center-right ‘scratch-a-dem-reveal-a-capitalist-fascist’ partners, or is it merely the inevitable 20-years later effect of a successful campaign to destroy a socialist “threat of a good example” “in our own backyard” (as with Cuba)?
To wit: If socialism/communism are bound to fail on their own, where is your voice on the illegal, literal war making economic policies put upon Latin American and African attempts at (sure to fail) socialism? Why not let them fail on their own? See? You’re a closeted CIA apologist.

Our source reports that the hryvnia exchange rate is about to collapse. According to minimal and positive forecasts, the hryvnia will fall by 20%, the standard and realistic forecast is 30%, negative from 50%.
It costs everyone 50 hryvnia to prepare for the dollar. The reason is that there is a huge risk that the West will, at best, reduce the credit line, and at worst, freeze it completely. This concerns the allocation by the US Congress of $20-24 billion, and a European loan of $50 billion for three years.
Everyone knows that the hryvnia exchange rate was saved from collapse only by the availability of credit money. If they are not there, then everything will “fly” (prices, tariffs, etc.).

Our source reports that the hryvnia exchange rate is about to collapse. According to minimal and positive forecasts, the hryvnia will fall by 20%, the standard and realistic forecast is 30%, negative from 50%.

I enjoyed that one. Lurid euro cross-talk, 8 Sept. Politico.eu.com tried to wrap too much boilerplate RF bankruptcy and notorious Wagner prison exploitation around the glorious dragnet of co-ed “volunteers” aged 18-60, imminent dodger extraditions, and cancelled deferments in Ukraine.

Russia and Cuba share a history of communism and have historically been allies. In July, Cuba came under fire after the country vehemently opposed certain wording condemning Russia in a joint EU-Latin America statement

(EU’s LAC summit plans failed on merits unrelated Zelensk*’s 10-point peace monomania)

on Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine. The Kremlin has been scrambling for new military recruits as its full-scale invasion of Ukraine stalls. on multiple fronts. It raised the military draft age to 30 years in July. On Monday, Cuba denounced the [“human-trafficking“] ring, underlining that the country is “not part of the war conflict in Ukraine,” and that it does not want to look “complicit in these actions.”

Meanwhile, same day, euronews printed promo for the Spanish company recruiting fighters for Ukraine

For seven hundred euros, the future fighters receive five days of training to experience what will happen on the battlefield. The reward? A contract with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, worth up to €3,400 if they join the elite units.
[…]
“It is the volunteer who has to call them directly, but our contacts are waiting for him. He then shows the validation certificate and he has the job,” he adds. This is to avoid the company being classified as a private security and defence contractor, the so-called Private Military Companies, a service similar to the Wagner Group.
“We have people fighting in Ukraine. One of them went back to Spain to rest for a few months, and that’s when he was asked (by Ukrainian officials) if he could recruit people to fight in the war,” says Galván. After 18 months of fighting Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine needs soldiers. Many of them are exhausted, and the casualty rate is high.

See the difference?

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Military Expert Boris Rozhin on the SMO #Highlights in the Territory of the Former Ukraine by 19:15 Moscow Time for 24 September 2023⚡️
🔹1. # Zaporozhye Direction:
▪️ The enemy is increasing pressure in the area of #Verbovoye and #Novoprokopovka, trying to crack the RF Armed Forces defence line south and southeast of #Rabotino.
▪️ The #US has tasked Zelensky’s gang with taking #Tokmak at any cost in the coming months, for which purpose several brigades transferred from other parts of the front have been concentrated in this direction, replacing a number of shabby strategic reserve brigades that suffered losses in the battles of June-September 2023.
▪️ The enemy is in a hurry to get results before the thaw.
▪️ #Tokmak was actively shelled throughout the day.
🔹2. #Vremyevka Ledge:
▪️ The enemy in this direction is exhausted and is rotating to resume intensive offensive operations.
▪️ The objectives are the same, to try to break through to #Staromlynovka either through Zavitne Bazhannya or from the side of #Priyutnoye. Here the enemy after previous failures now sets more modest tasks.
📌 The main efforts are now concentrated in the #Orekhov and #Artyomovsk directions.
🔹3. #Artyomovsk:
▪️ Fierce fighting continues over the #Kleshcheyevka – #Andreyevka – #Kurdyumovka line. The enemy continues to attack in the direction of the railway in order to secure control over #Andreyevka and #Kleshcheyevka by pushing the RF Armed Forces south of #Artyomovsk.
▪️ #Andreyevka is still in the grey zone.
▪️ In #Kleshcheyevka, the enemy controls the southern part and part of the centre of the village. Both sides continue to move reinforcements and exchange attacks. ❗️Enemy preparations for possible attacks northwest of the city are also noted.
🔹4. #Svatovo – #Kupyansk:
▪️ The enemy has stabilised the situation in the #Kupyansk area using transferred reserves and continues to fight in the areas of #Dvurechnaya, #Masyutovka, #Sinkovka and #Petropavlovka.
▪️ There has been no significant advance towards #Kupyansk so far.
▪️ West of #Svatovo, the RF Armed Forces continued to put pressure on the enemy defence, occupying several strongholds.
▪️ In the forest area west of #Kremennaya, positional battles continue without significant progress.
▪️At #Terny and #Torskoye, there are also no significant advances.

From your Ukraine War Part 1:
“I would like to start with where I stand on the conflict.
I believe the Russian invasion was wrong, both morally and under International law.
I read your series on the Ukraine War and you say nothing to support your contention that ‘the Russian invasion was wrong, both morally and under International law’. If that is your opinion then that is your opinion, but it is not mine. If you want to argue that position here be my guest but strategy and casualty, artillery etc. figures have been discussed ad nauseam here since the SMO began.
Your series adds nothing and I found it a waste of my time.
Then I happened to notice your piece entitled “The Real Chinese Invasion” written 2 days before you started your Ukraine series. Your opening line is “China’s goal is to be the world’s pre-eminent power, replacing the US.”
That is Western BS and enough for me to not bother with you anymore.

Our insight from September 4 was confirmed.
Due to the failure of three stages of the offensive, ZeErmak decided to continue the creeping offensive in the fall-winter, in order not to admit failure, which would cost them “power” and ratings.
The goal is to take Bakhmut or Tokmak, as the military themselves say, but according to our data, this will not be realistically accomplished without strengthening the army in manpower and equipment. In fact, the OP’s task is to reach some city without even recapturing it; this will be presented as a victory.
This message was voiced with the aim of stalling for time and trying to create a good “face against a bad game” in order to negotiate further funding from partners.

On the Canadian fools and traitors clapping for a Ukrainian Nazi?
Do the Canadians not know that they with the Greeks and New Zealanders , smashed the Galician Division in Rimini in Italy , and likely caught this war-criminal there? Only to protect and rehouse the slime in Canada.
I tell you what, if I was Canadian and my father or grandfather fought this scum and I witnessed such lack of wisdom or plain rudeness I would be very incensed.
It seems the Canucks like the Aussies, love wallowing in their own self-pity, weakness and need to bend over backwards to not give offence to the protected species of the day.

Our source in the OP said that the Cabinet of Ministers was preparing data for the Office of the President on Disabled Persons of Ukraine; during the year and a half of the war, their number actually increased by 500 thousand, and not by 300 thousand as stated by the Minister of Social Policy. It’s just that during the war, 170 thousand disabled people died, and almost 500 thousand new ones were added, so that’s 3 million. Moreover, 80% of new disabled people are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who were injured at the front.

Agree, the City of London [COL] has since 1788 controlled the foreign policy and influenced the domestic leadership in USA governed America.
The COL was the force behind the 2nd American Revolution (1788) <=which replaced America's only democracy (a states rights bottom up controlled political system with a top down one document one government controls all persons and things Federalist system, enumerated by the Constitution. In the run up to WWI, I am told, the COL led, trained, and distributed propaganda experts throughout heartland America. This accounts for the unconscionable imposition of the Federal Reserve Banking system, and for the illogical "ideologically ridiculous" American support for USA effort to help the COL prosecute its wars in Europe: WWI(1914-1918) and WWII(1941-1945)). What possible benefit could Americans expect from being involved in the wars in Europe? British Propaganda Technology (BPT) has become a major part of the top down Federalist control system, Propaganda is divide and conquer politics. America's only democracy [1776-1788] <=reflected in the Articles of Confederation, a system in which the governed average American, at the time, answered only to their respective state governments. I often conclude The constitution (1788) must have been a work product of the COL? The constitution succeeded in suppressing the people who are the governed from being involved in or with local, national and international politics. The constitution changed who was governing who. A lot of misleading propaganda surrounds the British led federalist 1788 coup in America. Article one of the ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION says<=The Style of the ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION [1777] shall be "the United States of America". I recently heard about a book being written that seeks to prove Zionism to be an out reach program of the COL. Apparently, it seeks to promote that The Balfour Agreement, German and British politics, International financial networks, British Palestine are interconnected. Many believe the COL was a strong force behind the American Civil War, the Federal Reserve Act, USA involvement in WWI and WWII and the formation of Israel in British controlled Palestine.

Any person who calls their opponent’s by childish names (rethuglican/demoncrat etc) is, IMHO, undermining their argument, given that the argument is weak from the start, ‘it’s all Trump’s fault’ and an inversion of the political reality, (evidence for RIno’s exist, not so much for the the Democrat equivalent), then your batting on a sticky wicket old chap.
Of course I’m an anti-Communist, if by Communist you’re referring to the historical implementation of the political system that has killed 120 million plus people and counting, and whose odious practices are increasingly creeping into Western institutions. Communism’s central tenets are simple reversions back to the mythical halcyon days of artisanship and tribal structures, it’s not for nothing that critiques of Marxism often conclude the eponymous creator was more a theologian than economist.

You’ve already admitted a lack of knowledge, vis a vis Cold War military matters, so your insistence that the Soviet positioning of tank armies in Eastern Germany as a purely defensive force comes across as a knee-jerk reaction, not a statement to be considered seriously. I’d do a bit of cursory reading about Soviet Military Doctrine before dismissing the thesis that, ‘the Soviet Cold-War military machine was designed around a pre-emptive, aggressive, response to any perceived threat to the USSR and it’s satellite states’. To use a Psaki’ism and ‘circle back’ to Ukraine, one of the problems the Russian Army has had is in transitioning from an aggressive military doctrine (that TO&E’s and platforms were designed to support) to a territorial defence force that requires differing skill sets. Part of the central Russian success in the SMO is managing this difficult transition during combat conditions, something the rah, rah posters here often forget, or fail to acknowledge.

I had thought ‘a fantasist’ with claimed knowledge of secret service intel and friends/acquaintances. His strawmen arguments WRT to ‘leftists’ etc… is a compulsive issue unless, of course, he is a Troll hiding in plain sight.

Gifts from Belgium:
“The enemy has been completing drones with a timer detonator for the third week. In case of a crash or malfunction, when the engine stops, the countdown starts, which may be different.
The UAV itself contains from 5 kg of Belgian explosives, a multiple of x6 to TNT equivalent. The charge consists of several thousand 3.5 mm tungsten balls. The affected area is up to 200 meters.”

The Terroreich hit a market place in Tokmak with Himars.

Special correspondent of the Alania and Ossetia battalions Georgy Mamsurov from the Zaporozhye direction:
▪️Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have carried out 41 strikes on peaceful front-line towns and villages in the Zaporozhye region. The largest one hit Tokmak, a market full of people, children were injured. They were taken to the doctors of the Ossetian medical battalion, their condition was stabilized. Now surgeons are working with them, one girl is in intensive care.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine use these terror tactics to justify their failures at the front. It would seem that these strikes from Khaimars were delivered inaccurately, not against military targets, but, apparently, the target was precisely the market, civilians.
According to the situation in the Zaporozhye direction:
▪️In the west of the region, near Zherebyanki, Pyatikhatki – this is the work zone of the Alania battalion and the Ossetia battalion – there is some calm, the enemy is working in small groups. But our artillery does not stop. Near Orekhovo, the situation remains consistently difficult, but controllable. All enemy movements are tracked, this indicates that they are preparing for a new attack. It’s going to be a fun week.

No, that is what they do since the coup. By design. That “special correspondent” is either stupid or dumb. The question is why isn’t the area evacuated. I hope they’re not waiting for Lord Shoigu or Sir Gerasimov to do something.

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. Ukraine is fated either to capitulate on Moscow’s terms or cease to exist as a state, Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament), said.
“When speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, [US President Joe] Biden, [NATO Secretary General Jens] Stoltenberg and other Western officials have started calling it ‘a war of attrition.’ They have put huge amounts of money into militarizing the Kiev regime. Where has it gotten them? The simple facts are these: the West is experiencing weapons and ammunition shortages, people in Europe and the US have lost trust in politicians, and the Kiev regime’s counteroffensive has failed,” Volodin stated.
According to him, the outcome of the “war of attrition” also includes economic problems in Europe and the US, a lack of manpower for the Ukrainian armed forces, and ultimately bankruptcy and demographic disaster for Ukraine. “These seven facts speak for themselves: Ukraine will cease to exist as a state unless the Kiev regime capitulates on Russia’s terms,” Volodin stressed.
More than 10.5 million people have fled Ukraine. Another 11.2 million residents of Crimea, Sevastopol, the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions decided to join Russia. Ukraine has lost 53.7% of its population since 2014,” the State Duma speaker highlighted.
Volodin noted that, in June, then-British Defense Minister Ben Wallace stated that Western countries had run out of stockpiles of those weapons that they could send to Kiev from their own national arsenals. Biden, in turn, admitted in July that the decision to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions had been driven by the fact that stocks of conventional ammunition were exhausted. “The approval ratings of EU and US leaders have hit historical lows. The share of people who disapprove of their leaders’ performance stands at 57% for Biden, at 69% for [French President Emmanuel] Macron, and at 72% for [German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz. The majority of people in the United States and European countries oppose weapons supplies to Ukraine,” the Duma speaker added.
In addition, the senior lawmaker emphasized that the NATO-backed Ukrainian military had suffered huge troop and equipment losses, while “the lack of achievements has disappointed [Kiev’s] Western sponsors.” “The economies of the Eurozone countries are going through a recession. The costs of Ukraine’s militarization have forced Germany to cut benefit payments to poor families. France has reduced the number of beneficiaries; people in need no longer receive food packages and reimbursements for drug costs. International agencies have downgraded the United States’ long-term investment rating as they expect the financial situation in the country to worsen in the next three years,” Volodin said.

While the western oligarchies may continue to survive this, western economies surely will not. And economies in Europe are in no shape to take on the rearmament program which are grandeur delusions, without wrecking their own society in the process. Going back to 2% “goldilocks” inflation is a pipe dream, get used to <5%. Nato as an alliance already suffered massive cost increases in the first step they tried to "ramp up war economy". You can't have war economy without cheap resources, raw materials, a talented work force and well versed and healthy industries. All of which EU have destroyed under the guise of net zero.
As far as Ukraine, the absolute amount of produced propaganda on the western side is a double edged sword. The insiders are saying hryvnia will collapse once west decreases their foreign line of credit only a tiny amount, there will be shortages of fuel and food. And then the human toll, all for nothing.
