My belief is that drones are going to be the great equalizer in the near future for smaller countries. This is due to their advantages of low cost and ease of transportation. Can you imagine a $1500 drone destroying a tank, mrap, afv, etc.. at a range of up to 5 kilometer? I read somewhere that drone operation is now a required part of Russian infantry training (and probably other specialties as well). Can you imagine what Palestinians, Lebanon or Hamas could do with these things? Israel might have to actually negotiate… Posted by: ctiger | Sep 15 2023 19:09 utc | 111 Continuation of my previous post. To attack US assets is seemingly justified if they’re directly aiding in the conflict, but it would be a very significant escalation. Russian active defence = crimean bridge will be completely destroyed soon and on top of that expect Putin hiding in a bunker because of strikes on Kremilin. After disposing all ukies US/UK will bring their eternal asset – jihadis. They will entrench them in cities (syrian way) taking population as human shield. Of course expect “chemical attacks” white helmets and similar stuff. This step plus mining every inch of UA territory and this mess can last for decades. US doesn’t give a fuck about UA population. They need only territory to bite Russia. Posted by: smartboy | Sep 15 2023 19:59 utc | 129 Ukraine is trying to buy time till the autumn rains start and this goal is basically achieved. But what guns are you talking about, and when did Ukraine aquire them? Until recently, the story went that Russia could shoot a couple of kilometers further than Ukraine, with exception of the mysterious HIMARS, that for some reason Russia can’t find an antidote against. As far as I know, I don’t think NATO has little more artillery to spare. They may run out of artillery before they run put of shells. Absolutely zero that they’d be handed over to Kiev, zero and then some. As for the USA, not NATO but the USA exclusively, it would first have to move its forces en masse into the theater, that could happen eventually but it’s not around the corner. Using nukes tactically in Ukraine would be a fatal strategic blunder for the USA. Russia might use tactical nukes but not in Ukraine, not because of fraternity among Slavs but it would be strategically useless. There is no tactical use of nukes that isn’t also strategic, it would have to be worth it, ie saving the lives of millions of Russians needed to push NATO out of eastern Europe. People shit on me for being doom and gloom, I have Putin in one ear, Medvedev in the other, I listen to both – as intended. Posted by: LightYearsFromHome | Sep 15 2023 21:25 utc | 163 AG @ 71
