New York Times Acknowledges Ukrainian Origin Of Deadly Strike

The New York Times is finally acknowledging that the September 6 deadly impact of a missile in the center of Kostiantynivka was caused by a Ukrainian missile:

Evidence Suggests Ukrainian Missile Caused Market Tragedy

One wonders what took them so long.

The Sept. 6 missile strike on Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine was one of the deadliest in the country in months, killing at least 15 civilians and injuring more than 30 others. The weapon’s payload of metal fragments struck a market, piercing windows and walls and wounding some victims beyond recognition.

Less than two hours later, President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russian “terrorists” for the attack, and many media outlets followed suit.

The New York Times was of course one of those media outlets that had spread Zelenski's lies:

The attack clouded Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken’s unannounced visit to Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, the same day, one of the highest-level visits by a U.S. official to there since President Biden visited in February. Mr. Blinken met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced more than $1 billion in new U.S. aid for Ukraine and praised its people’s valor and resilience in the face of what he called Russia’s “horrific” aggression.

Just hours after the impact several bloggers has already found that the missile had come from the Ukrainian side. The next day the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) published a report about it:

On Sept. 6, a missile strike rocked Kostiantynivka, a town in the Donetsk region under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The missile hit a bustling city market at 2:04 p.m. local time, leaving 16 dead and 33 injured. Photos and videos of the aftermath of the strike have been circulated by various media outlets worldwide.

The videos showed evidence that the missile had come from the Ukrainian side. Ironically the main one had been published by Zelenski's office:

CCTV footage published on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official Telegram channel captured not only the moment of impact, but also the preceding few seconds when bystanders turn their heads, alerted by the sound of the incoming missile. Additionally, the missile’s reflection can be seen on the roofs of two parked cars in different frames of the video. Based on the geolocation of the video, and these reflections, we can say with a high degree of confidence that the missile flew in from the north-west.

The nearest Russian positions are located approximately 18–19 km east and southeast of Kostiantynivka, as to the northwest, the missile could only have been launched from Russian territory in the vicinity of Grayvoron in the Belgorod region at a distance of about 250 km. Since we consider such a scenario to be unlikely, it is reasonable to assume that it was an accidental Ukrainian missile strike.

This version is also indirectly supported by a report about missile launches from aircraft south of Druzhkivka posted at 2:01 p.m. by a pro-Russian Telegram channel, where locals loyal to Russia report on Ukrainian Air Force activity. Druzhkivka is located just northwest of Kostiantynivka.

The strike was assessed to have been by a U.S. AGM-88 anti radar missile:

Pro-Russian Telegram channels assume that it was an AGM-88 HARM missile. The AFU regularly uses such missiles in the Donetsk region—for example, yesterday we reported a hit by such a missile on a residential building in Donetsk. There were also other incidents near Horlivka; fragments of a HARM missile were found on Sept. 1 near Holmivskyi, 30 kilometers southeast of Kostiantynivka.

Currently, there are no photos of the missile debris, making it impossible to identify it. In the reflections seen in the video, no details of its construction can be discerned. Despite the existence of missiles capable of making turns in the air (e.g., the 9K720 Iskander mobile short-range ballistic missile), in this case, there are far more direct and indirect pieces of evidence in favor of an accidental strike by an AGM-88 HARM missile.

The New York Times report disagrees with this missile assessment:

But evidence collected and analyzed by The New York Times, including missile fragments, satellite imagery, witness accounts and social media posts, strongly suggests the catastrophic strike was the result of an errant Ukrainian air defense missile fired by a Buk launch system.

Further evidence reveals that minutes before the strike, the Ukrainian military launched two surface-to-air missiles toward the Russian front line from the town of Druzhkivka, 10 miles northwest of Kostiantynivka.

Reporters with The Times were in Druzhkivka when they heard an outgoing missile launch at 2 p.m., followed a few minutes later by a second. By chance, one member of the team recorded the first launch in a voice message.

In the aftermath of the attack, Ukrainian authorities said Russian forces used a missile fired by an S-300 air defense system, which Russia has used both to intercept aircraft and strike targets on the ground. But an S-300 missile carries a different warhead from the one that exploded in Kostiantynivka.

The metal facades of buildings closest to the explosion were perforated with hundreds of square or rectangular holes, probably made by cube-like objects blown outward from the missile.

Measurements of the holes — and fragments found at the scene — are consistent in size and shape with one weapon in particular: the 9M38 missile, which is fired by the mobile Buk antiaircraft vehicle. Ukraine is known to use the Buk system, as is Russia.

Some of the holes are less than 10 millimeters in width, while others are slightly larger. The 9M38 contains two different sizes of solid-metal cubic fragments: eight millimeters and 13 millimeters across.

That impact damage evidence is less convincing than the Times makes it sound. It could have equally have come from a AGM-88 HARM missile:

The warhead section is designed to inflict sufficient damage on the target antenna and waveguide system to force an inoperative condition. It also ensures complete destruction of the HARM Missile guidance section. The AGM-88A, and AGM-88B warhead section contains 25,000 pre-formed steel fragments, an explosive charge, a fuze, and a fuze booster. The AGM-88C utilizes an improved warhead section containing 12,845 tungsten fragments and an improved explosive charge which provides greater overall lethality.

The fragmentation damage could have been caused by both types of weapons. The sound of the missile launch heard by the Times reporter could also have come from either type. But whatever type of missile it was we can be sure that it was launched by the Ukrainian side.

One question is not answered by The New York Times report. Why did it take twelve days to publish its report when it took only hours after the impact to find convincing evidence of a Ukrainian missile impact?

And why was this published the very day President Zelenski arrives in New York and shortly before he will meet President Biden in the White House?

Are the knives out to cut the liar to size?

The slow evolution of abandoning the proxy. We can only hope that Zelensky has dirt on members of the US leadership class and with it the potential to make a real mess of US domestic politics.
The NYT has to determine that it was Buk missile, otherwise the question about whether it was a HARM gone off course or a false flag for Blinken’s visit would require an answer. I assume it was a false flag based on how quickly Ukrainian propaganda got on it and how it just as quickly pretended like it never happened because it screwed up in releasing footage that exonerated Russia. If the NYT story is true, then Kiev would cling to how it wouldn’t have happened except for Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine.

It was surprising, how this recognition of western media came out of the bushes. There might be infighting going on between CIA, State department and some China hawks on how much resources US is willing to spend on Ukraine – and someone decided to pour some cold water on the Ukraine war hawks for the benefit of China war hawks.
The whole media, including russophobic Polish outlets like Visegrad24 and Nexta where completely synchronized reporting this news, so it was clearly the official party line. Biden/Sullivan/Blinken want to memory hole Ukraine, and they clearly gave Zelensky till November to take Tokmak. Now they see that ain’t happening so shot-across-the-bow for Zelensky.

Another scenario might have been a deliberate strike by the Ukraine for propaganda indoctrination purposes. YES, they are that evil and so is the US/UK! Hello, the propaganda started with the atrocities in Buka committed by Ukraine blamed on Russia. The first casualty of War is always truth, never forget that.

All really good questions. A lot on plates of UN, UNSC…
China in Russia, Assad meeting Xi, Russia meeting Iranian counter part, LOTS going on OUTSIDE of UN 77 & UNSC Ze sh*tshow.
I’m rather not believing anymore in the idea of “US factions” duking it out, I.e. “mediating “peace”, extending war, supporting ATACMs, all this Ukraine B.S., seems Iran/China strike real goal soon. Ukraine done.
Question is, will China & Russia allow another proxy nation war with a new nation state, or both just say we’ve had enough & finish off UK/US and illicit direct confrontation…?
If not, then could be decades more of “whack-a-mole”, another 3 decades of destabilization & war campaigns across the globe.
I know many believe US on verge of “bankruptcy”… it’s ridiculously far from the truth, do they want the “economy” to “scream”… yes, but all this is so far manufactured for many reasons. Anyways, seems some things are accelerating is all I’m saying.

The knives are always out for everyone in politics. One day, you’re a partisan fighting shoulder to shoulder, the next day you’re destroying the leader of your party to suit your donors and/or personal ambition.
They can build up Zelensky while tearing him down at the same time. One issue I have with this info space is how many people who have stared all of this data and corruption the face repeatedly, and (bless them for having soft hearts) still have Boomer-tier attitudes (speaking specifically about Ritter and Johnson) about power. These pols are all rotten people, not everything they do is rational, and the only consistent thing is self-gratification at the expense of anyone in their way.

I think question is was it the government, one of its agencies, the USA embassy in Ukraine or a private non human corporate interest that made the decision to correct and expose the error? Who made the decision and how was that decision communicated to, the media. Find the source and tracking it to the decision center seems to me to be very important.

Well, at least that’s one “terrorist attack” Zelensky won’t be able to use at his UN General Assembly speech.
It might also be a subtle pressure to push him towards a less maximalist “peace agreement” position, to push him towards negotiation without his silly “I want every squared inch from 1991 back or there’s no peace” pre-requisite.
Bob | Sep 19 2023 15:31 utc | 6
Indeed, in such cases, like happened in previous other cases (in Kiev several times, or that one time across the Polish border), either it’s deliberate or it’s anti-missile missile coming back to the ground after failing to intercept an incoming Kinzhal/whatever.

Many people in Ukraine were interested in the fact that an American publication published an investigation into the tragedy in Konstantinovka precisely at the moment when Zelensky arrived in the United States and before his speech at the UN.
It’s just that such news does not come out in such media.
We immediately wrote that the rocket was Ukrainian, but at that moment everyone had information that it was an aviation one, since “Ukrainian landers” were flying over the city.
We agree with the version that the tragedy was organized for Blinken’s arrival so that all the world’s media would write about it.
The goal was to create the necessary information background. For example, in this case, Blinken could not even publicly hint that Kyiv should agree to peace agreements.
And yes, Blinken’s visit was symbolic, like a “last date.”

https://t.me/legitimniy/16287

The President’s Office turned on the anti-crisis and accused the NYT journalist of working for the Kremlin.
The author of the article is Thomas Gibbons-Neff, who has repeatedly written pro-Russian articles and has already twice been deprived of his Ukrainian Armed Forces press card for violating work rules in combat areas.
An excellent method of working with Western media, but it only creates mistrust in the world.

The mobilization of women is no longer a matter of political decision, but of time. A legal justification and PR support for this issue is being prepared.
Discussions about the need to mobilize women not just to hospitals, communications centers and other places of rear services, but also directly to combat positions, have been going on in the Office of the President for quite a long time. And we are already seeing the first signals indicating that Bankova “has everything covered” in the case of women’s mobilization.
Thus, all women representing, at a minimum, professions related to medicine and pharmaceuticals will have to register for military service at the Territorial Recruitment Centers from October 1. Moreover, female doctors who do not register for military service without good reason face a fine of 850 to 1,700 UAH, and in case of repeated violation – criminal liability.
In parallel with this, more and more articles appear in the Ukrainian media, clearly custom-made, talking about the need for women to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The main message of the authors of the materials is that service is a struggle for women’s rights (by the way, women in this case are not always represented as representatives of auxiliary military specialties). Well, in the foreseeable future, Ukrainians may well have an “Israeli” option with the mobilization of women

The rich irony of b’s conclusion: using a BigLie Media outlet “to cut the liar to size.”
At the top of her weekly briefing today, Ms. Zakharova announced Lavrov will arrive in New York tomorrow for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly that also begins tomorrow. Apparently, there was no visa hassles this year as in years past. She also announced the existence of an online document spelling out “Russia’s position” at the affair. The following two points deal with Ukraine and the SMO:

3. The Kiev regime’s eight-year ongoing war against the population of Donbass and Ukraine’s deliberate sabotage of the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements forced Russia to take measures to protect civilians in the region. The special military operation (SVO) launched in 2022 is being carried out in strict accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and will be carried out until threats to the security of our country are eliminated.
Ukraine’s Western allies contribute to the escalation and prolongation of the conflict by supplying Kyiv with heavy weapons, providing financial and technical assistance, recruiting and sending mercenaries. The weapons of NATO countries are used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike at civilian infrastructure and civilians in Donbass. Thus, the West actually becomes an accomplice in hostilities and is responsible for the crimes of the Kyiv regime.
Violations of international humanitarian law and terrorist attacks by Ukraine are carefully recorded, the perpetrators of them will be punished. By its actions and rhetoric, Kiev demonstrates a complete lack of interest in a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Russia has never rejected a diplomatic solution to the crisis and is ready for negotiations, taking into account the situation on the ground and the legitimate interests of our country.
4. The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became part of Russia as a result of the free expression of the will of their population in September 2022 in accordance with the UN Charter and the 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States. This document guarantees the territorial integrity of those States whose “Governments represent, without distinction as to race, creed or colour, the whole people living in the territory”. It is obvious that the Kiev authorities, who for years have been persecuting a significant part of their population precisely on national, religious, linguistic and cultural grounds, do not meet this criterion.
The recognition of referendums in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the admission of Crimea to Russia following the will of its inhabitants in 2014 is a prerequisite for reaching agreements on a comprehensive settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
We are seriously concerned about the growing tendency of the UN General Assembly to go beyond its competence, which has resulted in a series of confrontational anti-Russian resolutions adopted since February 24, 2022 in connection with the situation in Ukraine in violation of paragraph 1 of Article 12 of the UN Charter. Trying to qualify the NWO as “aggression” in non-consensus resolutions, demand its termination, compensation for damage, etc., the UN General Assembly acts beyond its competence and arbitrarily assumes the functions of the UN Security Council. [My Emphasis]

There’s more about the Ukraine conflict later in the very long, 81-Point, document, which I’ll post to my substack. This part dealing with reform of the UNSC IMO deserves notice:
“6. The goal of the reform of the UN Security Council is to increase the representation of developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America in the Security Council without compromising its effectiveness and efficiency. We consider Brazil and India to be natural candidates for permanent seats on the Council in the event of a decision to expand it in both categories of membership. The optimal size of the reformed Security Council is “just over twenty members” (low twenties). The search for an optimal reform model that enjoys maximum support should continue in the current format of intergovernmental negotiations. Translating the discussions to a textual basis before agreeing on the basic parameters of reform is counterproductive. The prerogatives of the permanent members of the Council, including the right of veto, are not subject to audit.”
Overall, the document recaps Russia’s position on ongoing conflicts and other events and is an excellent aide. As usual, the update on the SMO is very long; I’ll just provide this one paragraph:
“A few days ago, terrible footage circulated on the Internet, in which Ukrainian militants drive two prisoners in the uniform of the Russian army towards a minefield. After a while, one of the Kyiv-regime servicemen (after what he did, he automatically becomes a criminal, not a soldier) opens fire in their direction, then an explosion is heard. All this is immediately accompanied and acquired, at the suggestion of the Kyiv regime and all those who have been “zigging” it for many years, with inscriptions and wording that demining should take place like this, live. Let me remind you that such monstrous crimes were committed by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. Today, their followers in Ukraine are diligently adopting these savage practices of Hitlerism.”
Immediately following the SMO update is an announcement of a new webpage “testifying to the crimes of the OUN-UPA during the Great Patriotic War and their ideological successors today” entitled “About the crimes of Bandera from the 1940s to the present day.” I’ll also post its translation to my substack as a service for readers. Following that announcement is another item about Ukraine, “On Ukraine’s responsibility for environmental degradation in the region.” The transcript has yet to be completed, so I expect a longer than usual briefing.

A possible explanation for the article is narrative management:
Since it became evident that the weapon used was not fired by the Russians, and it was possibly American, the only way to exonerate the American weapons, is by implicating the Ukrainian ones, while also framing the whole thing as an accident.
Additionally, in a next iteration, when the BUK story will have caught on, we might also see the Russian scenario making a come back, at least for certain audiences: BUK=Soviet=Russian -> The Russians did it. (Damage control, anyone?)

Why did it take (The New York Times) twelve days to publish its report when it took only hours after the impact to find convincing evidence of a Ukrainian missile impact?

Possibly related to the delay of news propagation and damage estimation, damage control planning and execution. IF the weapon used was indeed American, The New York Times have not found any convincing evidence of a Ukrainian missile impact. It took them twelve days to arrive at this iteration of narrative management.

And why was this published the very day President Zelenski arrives in New York and shortly before he will meet President Biden in the White House?

Possibly because 1)protecting the Big Guy is more important, and 2) this is a warning to the subordinate not to fuck up again like that (meaning not be careless with posting videos).
The above point of view presupposes that (almost) everything in this war is about global public audience perceptions:
“Russians killing innocent civilians” -> GOOD
“Americans, indirectly, killing innocent civilians” -> NOT GOOD
Don’t forget, the whole war from the US/NATO side is based on the idea of moral righteousness. This has to be preserved at any cost.

Was there ever any backtrack of the claim that Russia fired that missile into the train station near the start of the war? It was shown to be one from Ukraine’s stockpiles, right?

Dirt on the US ruling held by Zelensky won’t bring Biden down. I didn’t mean that at all. I said it would cause problems within US domestic politics. Think more fodder for impeachment proceedings. But it will also limit Biden’s behavior (if it exists and he would know, the threat of it has to be part of his calculations).
Biden currently has the US in a quagmire and one of the ways out is getting rid of Zelensky … unless he can’t do it safely. And it’s not going to be just Biden. Pelosi and Kerry’s kids were in on the corruption. Assume lots of apparatchiks tried to get their cut too. It’s simply a matter of making every decision tree much more complex and these people have limited intellectual capability. They’ll lose at the games of corruption and blackmail if they’re playing Ukrainians because the Ukrainians are among the world’s best.

The New York Times: The market in Kostiantynovka, located in the Kiev-controlled part of the DPR, was struck by a Ukrainian missile.
This conclusion was drawn by experts and analysts who interviewed local residents, reviewed CCTV footage, and collected shrapnel fragments.
According to their findings, the evidence “strongly suggests that the catastrophic strike resulted from a misaligned trajectory of a Ukrainian air defense missile fired from the Buk complex.”
The newspaper reports that the footage indicates the missile’s approach from the direction of the territory controlled by Kiev. When the sound of an approaching missile is heard, at least four pedestrians simultaneously turn their heads toward the source of the sound – the Kiev-held territory.

I know many believe US on verge of “bankruptcy”… it’s ridiculously far from the truth

Trying to convince yourself? I’ll spare us all the evidence weighing against this statement for now – why don’t you offer some compelling argument rather than naked assertion? I am curious how you could come to this conclusion other than the fact some treat economics as an esoteric occult art.

Pressure on Zelensky? Obviously he isn’t committing enough war crimes inside Russia. Here comes deep missile strikes.
Russia does have missiles that can change direction so who knows. The Americans were in town to deal with corruption when the attack happened.
It is interesting a large market in Sudan got the same treatment at the same time tho

I didn’t see who you were replying to, but this document is what needs to be spread around, “Financial Statements of the United States Government for the Fiscal Years Ended September 30, 2022, and 2021” that show total net equity at the end of 2022 to be (34,061.2) or negative $34,061,200,000,000 with assets being merely $4,962,400,000,000. any “normal” entity having such a balance sheet would be declared bankrupt. The deepening loss from 2021-2022 was about $4.3 Trillion; so, we can expect a further loss of about the same magnitude for 2023. Meanwhile, Russia’s solvent as is China.

Russian could simply shut the gas, no need to blow the pipe. Maybe they could use some sort of technical problems and blame sanctions on the impossibility to resume pumping.

Pro-Ukrainian spin-doctors have long since created what they believe is an unassailable logic trap that allows them to defend any atrocity committed by Ukraine. Namely, that if Russia hadn’t invaded, the conditions for launching missiles at a civilian market wouldn’t exist, so it’s basically Russia’s fault when Ukraine does anything. This reasoning resonates quite well with ostensibly pro-Russian schizo-patriots, who interpret everything done by Ukraine as something Russia allows them to do.

Nine yes votes would have been required. Only China and Brazil voted for it. The other 15 members abstained or said further investigation was unnecessary.

By the way, I had to use Google Translate because, interestingly, the information was available in German but not in English.

OC@41
Are you serious??! Get real. The Russians could never have assembled the assets necessary for the task in the area where the explosions occurred without being immediately and irrefutably implicated.
This was clearly a US planned operation carried out by people from their shadow world. The attempt to blame Ukraine after the fact is simply the choice of an acceptable scapegoat in order to publicly misdirect blame from obviously guilty party.

So, the missing plane:
1. Missing and found after 24 hours in USA according to US government?
2. Hacked in USA by Russia. (after US attack on Prigozhin and Sevastopol).
3. Shot down after the attack on Sevastopol. 5 planes took of in Ukraina- 4 travelled directly and launched rockets. One of the planes went south and attacked from Snake Island area. Maybe that was the F35 and after the rocket launh went to Romania. There was a drone- attack in Romania that the government denied the first day, then they admitted tha attack.
The official version is least credible in my opinion!

How do you know it wasn’t the Russians that blew up the pipeline? They offered to fix and open Nord stream 2 but not the original.
The first one had long term dirt cheap contracts, blowing it up not only got Russia out of being completely ripped off on prices it drove the price up on any new supplies.

If you look at the pipelines as a tangible asset, the loss is not an enrichment of the owner.
Who owned the pipelines?
https://www.nord-stream.com/de/wer-wir-sind/
“Nord Stream AG, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, is an international consortium of five major energy companies. It was founded in 2005 to plan, build and subsequently operate the Nord Stream gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea, consisting of two pipeline strings, each 1,224 kilometers long.
The five shareholders of Nord Stream AG are Gazprom international projects North 1 LLC (a Gazprom Group company), Wintershall Dea AG, PEG Infrastruktur AG (E.ON), N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and ENGIE.”

Otherwise, Canada has not performed the required maintenance on the turbines due to santions.
Price trends are linked to availability. Destruction of pipelines is more likely to ensure investment in infrastructure, for example, to be able to transport liquefied natural gas by ships.
So that the USA can sell its overpriced product in Europe.
All this and much more speaks against Russia, only harm, no benefit.
Oh yes, and the facts have already been discussed in detail in the bar. yawn

Here in Germany it is an open secret that the Biden administration is responsible for the terrorist attacks against Nord Stream. It is solely up to Washington to explain where it has the audacity to commit an act of war against Germany that deliberately targets the economic heart of our nation.
