News & views (not related to the war in Ukraine) …

Comments

I believe this one is the not Ukraine thread, misnamed. I will use it to announce that next week I will again be on Lac Leman visiting children and grandchildren. The last time I was there at Peak Covid those zany Swiss refused to accept my Vax certificate (It might be fake) and I was not allowed in bars or restaurants. It was not like the French sending the police to kick people out, the bosses did it themselves to their businesses!

So this is the Open Thread (not Ukraine).
History may not always repeat itself, but it often recycles its rhymes. If the vibe of today’s world has you thinking of the 1960s, you might especially appreciate this video mash-up. I lol at the humorous disclaimer below.

1965, the Doors are leaving a theater and see a movie poster that inspired a scream heard around the world! Warning: Hippie nudity.

And fwiw, I now see Lindsay Graham as the modern day embodiment of the walking talking ghastly horror that Jim Morrison was referring to with his “Dead Cats, Dead Rats” bit.

Breaking Point Reached: Mass Hunger Strike by Palestinian Administrative Detainees In Israeli Prisons Next Week

A breaking point has been reached; Palestinian administrative detainees who have been held without charge or trial under the Israeli policy of administrative detention have decided to embark on a mass hunger strike. Determined to challenge this oppressive system, Palestinians are committed to using their bodies as a means to demand justice. The hunger strike that is to begin on Sunday, 18 June 2023, exemplifies their persistence to shed light on the dire violations of their human rights under the Occupation’s Regime.
The number of Palestinians subjected to administrative detention has witnessed a sharp and alarming increase, reaching levels unseen in the past two decades. Currently, there are 1,083 individuals languishing in Israeli prisons under this policy, denied the right to know the reason for their incarceration on the pretext of ‘secret’ information, marking a disturbing trend of indiscriminate detention without due process. Among the detainees are three women and 19 children, further underscoring the injustice and cruelty of this practice.

“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill.”

In 2015 representatives of every country in the UN accepted the ideals of a plan for changing the world called: Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aka Agenda 2030. It is a continuation of the plans started by the Club of Rome years earlier. Georgian oligarchs are beyond counting published an amusing story yesterday that illustrates the length to which G7 will go to protect European “values”, their suppliers, and bankrupt EU “association” lures across the CIS —condemning “foreign agent” (FARA) registration, bi-lateral fintech, and “parallel” exports to visa-free travel.

The European Union recommended the authorities of the republic to abandon the controversial initiative
On Wednesday, the Georgian deputies by a majority of votes approved in the second, penultimate reading the draft law “On Deoligarchization”. They claim that by doing so, they have significantly come closer to fulfilling one of the 12 requirements of Brussels for granting the Caucasian country the status of a candidate member of the European Union. However, the opposition subjected the draft law to harsh criticism, calling it an instrument of pressure on opposition-minded businessmen. As a result, European officials also took the side of the critics of the initiative.
The law “On deoligarchization” was supported in the second reading by 81 members of parliament, only two deputies opposed it. The opposition boycotted the vote. And during the plenary session, the activists supporting her sneaked into the gallery of the meeting room and dropped ruble bills on the heads of deputies from the ruling party – as it was announced, in protest against the “pro-Russian policy of the de facto ruler of Georgia, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.”
First of all, they mean the founder of the Lelo party, banker Mamuka Khazaradze, and former Georgian Defense Minister David Kezerashvili, who lives in London (at home, he was sentenced in absentia to five years in prison for embezzlement and embezzlement of public funds).
Recall that “deoligarchization”, aimed at “overcoming the excessive influence of personal interests on the economic, political and social life” of Georgia, is one of the twelve conditions of the European Commission for granting the republic the status of an EU candidate. A year ago, Brussels granted a similar status to Ukraine and Moldova, but Georgia was urged to do its “homework” first.
Experts have criticized the bill, recommending that it should not be passed in order to avoid “political instrumentalization” and instead focus on judicial reform as the main guarantee of The Fight® against The Oligarchs®.

bwahahahaha—and to think, the “market mechanism” geniuses are convinced that sanctions against “KREMLIN-linked” private bankers whom they harbor is a BLOW (not a gift) to the RF economy.

I hope every barfly views this short, under 2 minute, video of a desert solar installation in China that’s on the scale of what I advocated be built in the USA’s desert Southwest back in the 1990s and the following decade until it was clear that such an undertaking wouldn’t be done–not because it couldn’t be done, but because there was zero political will marshaled by the Donors. It’s not that China, Russia or any other nations are defeating the West; rather, it’s the West that’s defeating itself.

That was a topic in Zakharova’s Briefing today, “Trafficking in human organs in Ukraine;” the opening paragraph:
‘In the course of our briefings, we have repeatedly spoken and cited facts indicating that Ukraine is rapidly turning into one of the world’s hubs of “black” transplantation. Recently, many facts were covered in the documentary “Tanks for the Kidney”, which cites further evidence that Kiev is dismantling its wounded militants for organs. It’s scary. Now I will tell you about the facts that confirm the assumptions we put forward earlier. Business is thriving due to the high losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the front line. After appropriate surgical procedures, the bodies are burned, relatives are informed that the soldier is missing. These terrible manipulations are impossible without the permission of the Kiev regime at the highest level, because they are legally formalized. In fact, the country has become a “gold mine” for criminals. In Ukraine, “black” transplantologists earn crazy money and are not going to stop.’
There’re two links in that paragraph, one to a previous report and the other to the cited video. There are five total paragraphs in her report. Here’s the opening sentences from the fourth paragraph:
“The main beneficiaries of black transplant schemes in Ukraine are Western countries. The whole scenario was worked out in Yugoslavia.” [My Emphasis]
One of the more curious Qs is the following:
“Question: The New York Times has reported that the United States is considering offering Ukraine an “Israeli model” of cooperation without joining NATO. What is the attitude of the Russian side to this option? Can this help, for example, to sit down at the negotiating table with Ukraine?”
I’ll leave the reader to discover how Maria answered. And of course, there’s more.

Welcoming Proceedings at the International Court of Justice to Hold the Syrian Regime Accountable

The United States welcomes Canada and the Netherlands’ decision to initiate legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice to hold Syria accountable for the reported torture of thousands of individuals at the hands of the Assad regime. For over twelve years, the Assad regime has been responsible for innumerable atrocities, including those involving killings, torture, enforced disappearance, the use of chemical weapons, and other inhumane acts.
Those abuses are well documented, and the Assad regime must be held accountable for them. Together, the United States and our international partners will continue to seek a durable political solution for the conflict in Syria that is grounded in justice and accountability. . .here

A news piece that is perhaps least related to Ukraine “BIDEN: “We have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean”. what do you think??
Sergey Karaganov: By using its nuclear weapons, Russia could save humanity from a global catastrophe

He is not only MAD, he is ignorant of the Ukraine strategic process and goal. Russia will demilitarise and denazify the ukraine plus it will de-sovietize it at the same time. By relentlessly destroying the ukraine’s army and nazi threatening, intimidating infestation in the administration, whilst leaving many citizens unharmed, their resentment will turn on their leaders and army recruitment thugs.
As a by-product the nato adherents will have their arsenals depleted, suffer immense loss of face for being in NATO for so long and not only having useless weapons but a totally irresponsible strategy after all the billions spent. The EU and NATO public have been deceived and they will not be happy as they have foregone massive material benefit and even less supportive of the lunatics that got them to this point.
A small nuke or two on a small spot of land here and there in the Russian territory of the ukraine will never return the political, military, just struggle bonus to Russia. Let alone bring NATO to its awakening and return to the 1992(?) boundaries of influence.
Sergey Karaganov is mistaken and cannot see the equation between army, weaponry and strategic long term victory for millions of people across Europe and Russia and the newly independent states between. He cannot conceive of the power of the masses of people who will be empowered to change the status quo once the ukraine capitulates and deals with the enemy within. Patience eludes him along with most everything else.

@19 regarding William Boyd gloating over Afghanistan’s suffering
He gloats that eradicating opium in Afghanistan suffer and discredits the Taliban. But of course this is combined with the U.S. stealing all of Afghanistan’s central bank’s reserves which causes even more suffering.
The U.S. has no decency. We flaunt the power that we have over smaller countries to our amusement. As a Christian, I have no idea why God tolerates our self-righteousness. God must love well coiffed Americans who laugh at the suffering we cause others.

James @ 6:
The West may already be trying to create a scenario in Ukraine or elsewhere in which Russia would be compelled to use nuclear weapons. Moscow has its work cut out already reading between the lines of current Western strategy in Ukraine and anticipating what the West is trying to push Russia into doing.
There is no need for Moscow to use nuclear weapons when hypersonic weapons can be used with more accuracy and consequently with greater effect and less likelihood of long-term pollution from radiation or other consequences.
Karaganov’s opinion is just that, an opinion.

Certain things that Carlson mentioned are bizarre in a multiple ways. For nearly 30 seconds, a program at Fox News displayed a placard with words “Wannabe dictator in the White House”, THEN the placard was removed and within a day the responsible person was fired.
What Carson did not mention is that another program featured a guest that for something like 15 minutes hammered pretty equivalent statement, raising his voice very emotionally, except narrowly avoiding lese majeste by focusing on Attorney General who works, as the guest stressed, on the pleasure of his boss. What is going on at Fox News? One conjecture is that the boss, Murdoch, decided to cast his political allegiance in some way, like when he abandoned Tories in England, supporting New Labour (and Tony Blair) instead, but the bulk of the audience that Fox built in USS so far is irritable, vocal and, to a disturbing degree, armed. Hence “triangulation”.
Second issue is as laudable achievements of Biden Administration may be (we did not have nuclear war yet? shouldn’t we count it as a blessing?), his fitness to be an office holder, as opposed to office decoration (an acquired taste, as it happens to decorations), is questionable, as exemplified by “his planned railroad across Pacific and Indian oceans”. Perhaps anyone’s mind may start to wander when forced to read a boring text, and to his credit, Biden quickly noticed that he babbled, and he loudly admitted that “I will have trouble about it”. If not an example of TOTAL senility, surely not an example of mental agility. But you can prevent a big proportion of the citizens from paying attention. So far.
Is electablity of Biden ineluctable? The toils of office, and simple time flow, can push his mental fragility closer to the brink or over the brink. What if that happens during the primaries, too late to switch Biden with another trusty tool, placing RFK Jr. on top of the heap? Instead of a win-win like Biden vs De Santis, the establishment could get JFK vs Trump. What is DNC plan B?

It is interesting to take a closer look at the United States Institute for Peace. In one section of its website dedicated to ‘Regions’ we find a fair swag of the entire world as items of their interest. I thought I might start with Papua New Guinea and clicked on the link to find this and under the title of “Earth’s best defenders are Indigenous. They pay a price: violence.“ (tell that to Haitians, Hondurans, Nicaraguans, Afghanistans, Iraqis, Libyans…)

Thursday, June 8, 2023
By: Binalakshmi Nepram
Little noted by the world, warfare in India’s northeastern state of Manipur this spring has killed hundreds of Indigenous people and uprooted more than 35,000 residents. This violence along the India-Myanmar border fits a global pattern, also little noted: For decades, some 80 percent of human conflicts have smoldered in the “biodiversity hotspots” where our planet’s flora and fauna are most threatened by battles for resources and wealth — and where Indigenous peoples suffer the violence while protecting humanity’s common ecological heritage.

Now it is a long way from Papua New Guinea to Myanmar and there is an ocean betwixt the two. Myanmar borders India, Bangladesh, China, Thailand, Laos. None border Papua New Guinea but its a broad brush this violence stuff. You can see it or make it anywhere.
Plus you wouldn’t be told here that there is a peace deal between PNG and the Solomon Islands that was betrayed by PNG if you follow the links further:

The island nation of Papua New Guinea (PNG) struggles from a range of factors that exacerbate its fragility, from intercommunal violence to the potential secession of the autonomous Bougainville region to its inability to hold safe and credible elections. Sexual- and gender-based violence against women also runs rampant in the country. While the PNG state is weak and garners little trust from the people, there are critical civil society actors working to address the country’s instability and mitigate violence.
PNG is also at the center of geopolitical competition between the United States and China in the Pacific Islands regions. The United States has demonstrated that it views addressing PNG’s challenges as a vital interest by designating it as a priority country under the Global Fragility Act.

After some time reading this shite and identifying slapstick shoddy prose threaded through coherent generalisations I gather this US Institute for Peace is a shabby cover to lend legitimacy to US imperialism and its plunder of resources through the generation and maintenance of conflict.
So what is this Global Fragility Act?

“What’s the State of Play on the Global Fragility Act?
The release of 10-year plans could pave the way for more effective U.S. conflict stabilization.
Wednesday, March 29, 2023 /
BY: Corinne Graff, Ph.D.
PUBLICATION TYPE: Analysis and Commentary
The White House’s recent release of 10-year stabilization and conflict prevention plans marks another milestone in U.S. efforts to implement the closely watched Global Fragility Act (GFA). The legislation received bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress before being signed into law by then President Donald Trump in 2019. It requires the U.S. government to develop a strategy for preventing the drivers of violent conflict and extremism, and to test a more coordinated, cost-effective and sustained U.S. approach in hot spots around the world.

Here is the agenda of the USA imperial conquest and resource plunder via violence.

The US Institute for Peace has a dedicated chapter “Ask the Experts” so I took a peek at the video on Papua New Guinea and an interview “with Gordon Peake — an affiliate at the Center for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Studies at Georgetown University — about PNG’s fragility, how to address it and the importance of working with civil society to build resilience in the country.”
At the 2:00 minute point Gordon Peake discusses the 2019 secession vote in the Solomon Islands to separate from PNG dominance. Telling how 97.7% people voted YES to secede and then says that only South Sudan had a higher number. (Ahem CRIMEA had a higher number afaik.) But the issue I have is that a few years prior there was a very nasty war between PNG and Bougainville and a peace settlement was established with a guarantee of separation should the secession vote be passed and yet PNG still refuses to enable it. The good expert remains absolutely silent on this major item of peace.
Why is this an issue? because of the Bougainville copper and gold mine! Not discussed.
But the pair continue on to discuss ‘governance issues’ and the weakness of the PNG state. The USA calling the pot black (pun unavoidable 🙂 on governance issues!!! I wont go on but if you can bear to watch bald faced hypocrisy THIS is for you.
How much loot do these USIP Ph.D. ‘experts’ take for this game of rendering validity for the US empire of lies and plunder?
I am yet to watch the expert talk on Libya but first a recharge.

Chronicles of [Polish] Democracy.
Warsaw(!) wants to submit a report on the reparations(!) that it intends to demand(!) from Russia(!!) for the losses “suffered(!) from the Soviet Union(!!) during the Second World War” by autumn.

Poland blocked the South African delegation with the security service of President Ramaphosa and journalists on the plane. People have been locked in the plane for ~two days now, their passports have been confiscated, the Polish authorities refuse to communicate with the South African security service blocked on the plane.
Nothing special, just a small revenge of the wild hyena of Europe for the African peace initiative to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

…in order to understand the possibilities of madness, one needs to get outside the logic box.
Posted by: james | Jun 16 2023 5:14 utc | 32
Logic, by definition, defines madness. Madness is that state of being that is not logical.
It’s Karaganov himself who is outside the logic box.
Every point Karaganov makes can be dismissed using logic.
What else could you possibly use to counter his ideas?
Prayer? Ouija board? Tossing a pile of sticks to the floor? Tea leaves?
Sorry to sound like Spock but logic is all there is and all that’s needed.
Anyone advocating nukes is outside the logic box, mad, and must not be in a decision role.
It’s only logical.

It seems to me that it has become transparently obvious that Trump is being subject to prosecution (1) as political maneuver to make campaigning more difficult and (2) as threat/revenge in response to investigation and potential legal action with regard to Biden (and family) corruption – relating to Ukraine and other national/international matters.
Now this would be some serious dirty politics, if endeavored by either party. But this is the US legal system pursuing this agenda. This on-top of the US legal system has gone complete totalitarian, facist – censorship and intimidation of those in position to voice discontent on a public scale.
This is something unimaginable to the public until recently and actually becoming alarming. The US has actually degenerated to the level of a corrupt, authoritarian regime. When paired with it’s material support of terroristic and extreme nationalistic (racist, violent, genocidal) groups and the use and corruption of global bodies (UN, WHO,..) nevermind IMF/WB. It is alarming in the extreme.
Rules Based Order, indeed.

Global Times reports on Gates visit to China, his meeting with Xi, and other related aspects of his visit. There’s plenty of additional commentary. This one excerpt IMO is important as Xi makes the distinction between the “American people” and their government while not mentioning but implying the latter:

“The foundation of China-US relations lies in the people. We have always placed our hope on the American people and wish all the best for the friendship between the two peoples,” Xi said, adding that people should travel and communicate more to increase their understanding as the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As one noted American pundit said, to visit China is to see the future, which is one very important reason for the travel Xi suggests as he knows those impressions become politically important–Soft Power as it’s called.

At the Plenary Session of this year’s SPIEF Putin performed as usual but it wasn’t a solo act as he had as his co-star Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. I’ve translated the transcripts as usual and they are broken into two parts, Part One and Part Two. I’m going to highlight Mr. Tebboune’s answer to the moderator’s next to last question which is:
“What would you like to say not only to those who are sitting in this hall, but also more broadly-to the multi-million, perhaps multi-billion audience that follows your performances?”
A: “Our only goal, as a whole of humanity, is to live in peace and live when progress is being made, when the economy is developing, and when the real integration of the economy and relations between peoples is really carried out.
“But all wars – in the end, many lose from them, as they bring with them destruction. That is why I would like to wish peace, prosperity and security to all mankind.”
As you read, Algeria’s president is a Win-Win man.

It was stated that logic is the only viable means to attain proper conclusions*. This is not true.
Logic is helpful, you can build nice things with it, stuff like bridges or computers, or win at poker. But the bridges need repair, the computers can’t solve dispute with your spouse, and poker theory works only in general.
Logic does not allow us to compute others’ sentiments, as was well stated by everyone above. But sentiments are of essence! – For the logicians among you: simply because you can’t compute them in others, yet they will act on them. And for all those of a more sensitive nature: computing bridges and poker is not all that there is to life . . .
It follows that spider senses – or Bauchgefühl in german – is, in fact, another means to get to the point where we need our *conclusions for at last, that is, to act with certainty in good faith. Being truly thoughtful relies on BOTH intuitive as well as intellectual skills.
Surely this does not mean Karaganow is right. He is appealing to our emotions, and I too intuit that this is another variety of the false Putin statement you recently discussed, meant to lead us astray. Propaganda.

I shall discuss the term Dasein, the language of god, the Weltprinzip, and us speaking (about) it, both meanings at the same time – – – as if we spoke out BEING ITSELF —
Reality won’t cheat you, to paraphrase a quip.
. . . is that possible? – Well, I suggest you go ask the pope in Rome that one.
My point is that, since we cannot speake “the world” AS IT IS, in any code whatsoever, we cannot rely on code completely. We cannot reduce beings, most especially sentient ones, to pure function. Hence it follows that sentiment is of the essence.

Thanks for the reply. More from SPIEF via TASS‘s Telegram:
“Russia has information about how the West put pressure on literally every country to refuse to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Maria Zakharova said in an interview with our agency on the sidelines of the SPIEF.
“Even how they pressed. We have information on how literally every country was processed. They wrote letters. During the meetings, they were threatened. This was done, of course, by the foremost – this is the United States. The atmosphere was formed in general by NATO-centric countries. And just literally with every country there were relevant conversations to inspire the idea that it is impossible to go to the forum, that they will face consequences, that the next, so to speak, package of sanctions is just around the corner, and that everyone thinks carefully before participating in events on the territory of Russia,” the diplomat said. answering the relevant question.”
I went to TASS‘s Russian version to see if the interview was published there. I also checked the MFA’s site. Neither have it. SOP behavior from the Outlaw US Empire that’s driving nations out of its orbit into the RoW Bloc as public pressure squeezes on the other end of the vise.

The troll scorpion pushes a popular ‘wn’ meme that

there’s a Chinese/Jew conspiracy to undermine the white countries., aka garden.

Well, G7 , the latest iteration of white armed gang since 8NA, IS anti life, anti ROW, anti Chinese in particular
In a closed door meeting , it reached the consensus that

The world should be run by those of us at this table, also, something gotta be done about the up coming China/India monsters.

[the scorpion troll has been pushing that same crap here since his debut in 2022, in his signature long winded , convoluted mumbo jumbo way, prolly to obfuscate his real agenda]

Whats to be done about the ‘encroaching jungle’ [sic] ?

[even when the garden has been expanding into jungle territory relentlessly since time immemorial]
The consensus is …

.germ warfare, cuz wars seems indequate so far. !

Dont forget the oldest trick in garden play book either…
DIVID AND CONQUER

We dont see why it isnt in the west interest to get the Indians/Chinese going at each others throat !

HOly shit, look out bro..there’s a garden out there !
They want us cancelled !!
This is no conspiracy, they have been broadcasting it since the days of Jack LOndon.
Hence,
I dont see why an emasculated garden isnt good news for ROW, especially the Chinese
If there’s anybody working to blunt the garden’s tyranny, I say way to go bro, whether they’r Chinese or Jew or
wasp or Marsians, whatever !

RT reports the first major indicator I’ve read that the EU is imploding: “Germany has no more money for EU – finance minister.”

Germany cannot afford to pay more money into the EU budget, Finance Minister Christian Lindner told the Die Welt newspaper on Friday. Although Germany is the bloc’s largest contributor, it has been forced to make cutbacks as its economy contracts.
“In view of the necessary cuts in our national budget, we are currently unable to make any additional contributions to the budget of the European Union,” Linder told reporters in Brussels, adding that other member states have come to the same realization.
Lindner explained that the EU has maxed out its long-term budget through 2027, largely as a result of the bloc’s lavish aid packages to Ukraine. According to the latest figures from Brussels, the EU has given Kiev €72 billion ($79 billion) in economic, military, and humanitarian aid since Russia’s military operation in Ukraine began last February.
Despite this unprecedented outflow draining its coffers, the European Commission is reportedly readying an additional €72 billion financial aid package to keep the Ukrainian economy limping along to 2027. According to Lindner, the commission will release a report next week asking member states for more money to cover the bill.

This paragraph provides the meat of the matter:
“Once regarded as Europe’s industrial powerhouse and the EU’s most resilient economy, Germany is currently experiencing deindustrialization as a consequence of its decision to cut itself off from cheap Russian gas and transition to more expensive green energy. The German economy fell into recession in the first three months of this year, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government is planning to reveal around €20 billion ($21.8 billion) in budget cuts later this month.”
With Germany mortally wounded, so is the EU. It like Ukraine is now a beggar. But the worst is yet to came as the slow acting poison it drank in 2022 is beginning to take hold. So, it didn’t matter if Finland joined NATO as its scaffolding is close to collapsing. There’s really only one way for the EU to save itself, but IMO those running it would rather see it die.

I have no idea how well-known this fact is outside of Germany: decades of tight “responsible” budgets and “fiscal prucence” (you may have heard of the black zero, “schwarze Null”, referring to no debt) led to a Germany lacking billions in investments (even upkeep!) in roads, railways, schools, universities, hospitals, digital infrastructure.
German unions have accepted below-inflation salary gains for a long time: this, together with cheap Russian energy, was the real driver behind Germany’s Exportweltmeister. That house of cards is toppling right now, and your quote shows one crack.
Fun fact: Lindner and his FDP are still all about Schwarze Null. I don’t think these people are crazy: they’re just dutifully executing the program of their donors: extreme privatisation. As elsewhere, the profits of large companies are soaring. Yet I do get the impression that we’re observing a virus that’s too effective and is killing its host instead of leeching it steadily.

I for one will be happy to see the EU go down the drain. The earlier the better! I believe that “Europe” is still positively connotated for most Germans but the euphoria of the early phase is long gone. I guess that in Spain, Italy, Greece, folks are wary of Brussels and its projection of German power.

If you are young, leave. Why stay in Europe? Because of some old stones?
