The Iranian Basir missile at the Milex 2023 exhibition in Minsk is the latest example of the Zulfikar-class missiles, which have a range of 700 km and are equipped with an optical detector head capable of hitting enemy ships at sea.
It is known that “Zulfikar Basir” is installed on a car platform. With the help of this missile, as stated, it is possible to destroy large naval targets, including aircraft carriers.

The Dresden Firebombing was scheduled to take place during the Yalta conference but was postponed because of weather. That was already a signal to the USSR, so the nuclear bombing of Japan was a further signal. To think otherwise would be to assume there were no strategic planners at the time, just happenstance.

Are you underneath that radiation cloud ?
Will you be soon.
And here’s the point….
Will it rain and send that radiation down on you and yours ? In large amounts.
Your water supply.
Your food.
And food chain…
Soil, grass, live stock. Meat on your plate.
Do you feel lucky ?
The west took brinkmanship way to far this time.

Sam Johnson reckoned years ago that patriotism was the last refuge of a scoundrel. Mind you an English teacher once told me that in Jonhson’s time patriotism was a synonym for soldiering? Don’t know if that was true. I’d be more interested in what the Russians do now. The ball seems to be on their court.
Posted by: Guy L’Estrange | May 19 2023 11:28 utc | 411
Going by what I read some time ago, Sam Johnson was commenting on the French. If so, the commment was probably made during the French Revolution.
I don’t know about now, but in earlier times patriotisms and soldering were strongly linked. Now the troopers need a big supporting cast back home.

When ethnicity does not equal nationality, you have no nationality. This is what the Deep State is trying to create in the US. A nation whose inhabitants have no inner link of any kind to that nation. Or, in other words, no nation at all, just a collective penal colony.

To do full justice to Samuel Johnson I thought you might like this excerpt from Boswell……..
Patriotism having become one of our topicks, Johnson suddenly uttered, in a strong determined tone, an apophthegm, at which many will start: ‘Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.’ But let it be considered, that he did not mean a real and generous love of our country, but that pretended patriotism which so many, in all ages and countries, have made a cloak for self-interest.
Boswell tells us that Samuel Johnson made this famous pronouncement that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel on the evening of April 7, 1775. A year earlier, Johnson had printed The Patriot, in which he stated that ‘A patriot is he whose publick conduct is regulated by one single motive, the love of his country; who, as an agent in parliament, has, for himself, neither hope nor fear, neither kindness nor resentment, but refers every thing to the common interest.’
This hardly sounds as if Johnson is describing a scoundrel. But this is because, when he declared that ‘patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel’, Johnson had in mind not patriotism but Patriotism.
The Patriot Party began life in 1725 as an offshoot of the Whig Party in Great Britain. They later became simply the Patriots, until they were disbanded in 1803. The group was formed in opposition to the ministry of Robert Walpole, the first de facto Prime Minister of Britain. William Pitt the Elder – who would later become Prime Minister himself – became a prominent member of the Patriot Party. This is the eighteenth-century context in which Johnson’s quotation must be read.
So, ‘patriotism is the last refuge of a [not the] scoundrel’ was not, in fact, a denunciation of patriotism in general but rather a very specific reference to what Johnson considered the false use of the term ‘patriotism’ by William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham. Johnson actually valued patriotism as an idea, but he was – probably quite rightly – suspicious of those who use the word to describe themselves without following up such a label with any meaningful actions.

According to Martin Gilbert, Second World War …….
The Big Three also heard a plea on February 4 by the Deputy of the Chief of Staff of the Soviet forces, General Antonov, for British and American bombing help, “to prevent the enemy from transferring his troops to the East from the Western front, Norway and Italy.” What Antonov asked for was “air attacks against communications.” This Soviet request for Anglo-American air support was presented to the Big Three at their meeting on the afternoon of February 4, when Antonov told the meeting that the Germans were even then transferring to the Eastern Front eight divisions from the interior of Germany, eight from Italy, three from Norway and a further twelve from the Western Front, in addition to six already transferred. Antonov’s exaggerated assignment – only four divisions were transferred from Italy, for example – led Stalin to ask what Churchill and Roosevelt’s wishes were “in regard to the Red Army,” to which Churchill replied that they would like the Russian offensive to continue.
The urgency of the need for some Anglo-American air action to help that offensive was made clear by a sentence in the British Cabinet’s War Room Record that day, in which it was pointed out that “between the Oder bend north west of Glogau and the Carpathians all Russian attacks failed in the face of strengthened German resistance”. On the following day, in a memorandum for the Combined Chiefs of Staff, the British Chiefs of Staff agreed “to do what is possible to assist the advance of the Soviet Army”. That same day, at a meeting of the joint British, United States and Russian Chiefs of Staff, General Antonov went so far as to warn the Western generals that if the Allies “were unable to take full advantage of their air superiority they” – the Russians – “did not have sufficient superiority on the ground to overcome enemy opposition.”
The British and American Chiefs of Staff at once agreed to deflect some of their bomber forces from the attack on Germany’s oil reserves and supplies, then the current priority, to attack on the German Army’s lines of communication in the Berlin-Dresden-Leipzig region. They also agreed, at Antonov’s suggestion, that these three specific cities should be “allotted to the Allied air forces,” leaving the Russian bombers to attack targets further east.
Thus at Yalta, in an attempt to help the Red Army halt the flow of German troops through Dresden and other cities to the Eastern Front, the fate of Dresden – which for “bomber” Harris remained one of the few major unbombed cities – was sealed. It was Harris who, in his capacity as head of Bomber Command, had for so long resisted the call to focus his strength against Germany’s oil resources, preferring to put his faith, which all Allied Intelligence including Ultra had shown to be misplaced, in the creation of firestorms and rubble.
…
On the night of February 13, as part of the Anglo-American plan, agreed at the Yalta Conference, to delay for as long as possible German troop reinforcements being transferred from Norway, Italy and Holland to the Eastern battle zone around Breslau, 245 British bombers struck at the city of Dresden, followed three and a half hours later by 529 more. Their purpose was to destroy the city’s railway marshalling yards. During the first of the two raids, a firestorm, created in a single hour’s bombardment, burnt through eleven square miles of the city.
The British raid on Dresden was followed the next morning by an American raid, also aimed at the marshalling yards, in which 450 bombers took part. Dresden, whose ancient city centre had hitherto been untouched by war, was now on fire; some of the fires were to burn for seven days and nights.

Love how they describe Ukraine tactics and characteristics in the first few paragraphs, then label them to be Russian tactics.
“The scale of Russian losses in 2022, combined with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation confronting NATO systems they had not previously contended with, has caused a significant deviation in Russian operations from the country’s doctrine. This report seeks to outline how Russian forces have adapted their tactics in the Ukrainian conflict and the challenges this has created for the Ukrainian military that must be overcome. The report examines Russian military adaptation by combat function.
Russian infantry tactics have shifted from trying to deploy uniform Battalion Tactical Groups as combined arms units of action to a stratified division by function into line, assault, specialised and disposable troops. These are formed into task-organised groupings. Line infantry are largely used for ground holding and defensive operations. Disposable infantry are used for continuous skirmishing to either identify Ukrainian firing positions, which are then targeted by specialised infantry, or to find weak points in Ukrainian defences to be prioritised for assault. Casualties are very unevenly distributed across these functions. The foremost weakness across Russian infantry units is low morale, which leads to poor unit cohesion and inter-unit cooperation.”
Certainly that was a theme of AFU throughout 2022. Morale and cohesion issues are now far worse off as effectively all AFU Donbass veterans are gone (certainly Russia lost a lot of them too, but they were integrated to RU armed forces). Bakhmut is/was a very special case in the whole SMO. It was an operation initiated in October to suck all Ukraine’s newly formed reserves in a brutal battle of attrition.

Absolutely brilliant !!!!! These politicians never study Economics though Sunak is supposed to have at least a smattering to Prelims !
So ban trade in Russian diamonds on the London Diamond Market so they are no longer exported to Antwerp (one of UK’s major export items to Belgium) and the Jews who run cutting centres there can move to Dubai or Bombay to carry on trading and leave Antwerp to the Muslims.
It should also boost De Beers and Alrosa profits as diamond prices spike – no doubt affecting electronics and other sectors.
Then the ban on nickel and copper. That should kill off the London Metal Exchange and move business to Shanghai.

The London Metal Exchange (LME) is still struggling to regain its reputation and standing as the predominant market for trading nickel and other metals vital to the green energy transition
I mean LME is owned by the Hong Kong Exchange !!!!!!
LME is the world’s premier non-ferrous metals market. LME offers futures and options contracts for aluminium, copper, tin, nickel, zinc, lead, aluminium alloy and NASAAC, steel billet, cobalt and molybdenum. These contracts are traded on three platforms: the Ring, LMEselect (the electronic trading platform) and inter-office telephone. LME approves and monitors a global network of 700 international storage facilities and manages LME-approved brands.

Von der Leyen, in particular, expressed support for Zelensky’s “peace formula”.

Medvedev replies

Мedvedev responded to Ursula von der Leyen’s statement:
“It is hard not to agree with the gynaecologist who pretends to be the head of the EU.
The lady stated that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on an equal footing should be rejected.
Of course they are.
What kind of equal negotiations can there be with a Nazi state in a half-decay under foreign rule? One can only talk to the masters. Or rather, only with Washington. There are no other interlocutors. And only about the terms of the post-war world order. But it is too early to talk about that.
Therefore no negotiations are needed right now at all.”

Another article on P saying the town is not about to be taken. [Note that this is in contrast with Daily Summary (or maybe Weeb Union, get them confused, similar accents) who said it would fall by Sunday.] The southwest part is still holding.
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russias-prigozhin-says-bakhmut-will-not-fall-next-two-days-2023-05-19/
MOSCOW, May 19 (Reuters) – Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Friday that the city of Bakhmut was unlikely to fall to his mercenary forces in the next two days as fighting raged around Ukrainian soldiers holed up in a makeshift “fortress” in the south of the city.
The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, known in Russia by its Soviet-era name of Artyomovsk, is in ruins after months of intense fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces who call it the “meat grinder”.
“Bakhmut has still not been taken,” Prigozhin said in a voice message posted on Telegram. “Bakhmut is unlikely to be taken either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”
“There is a quarter known as the ‘Airplane’ – it is like an impregnable fortress from a bed of multi-storey buildings in the southwest of Bakhmut, where incredibly heavy battles are going on.”
Russia has been trying to capture Bakhmut since last summer in the longest and bloodiest battle of the war, but Ukrainian defenders have held out. If Russia took the city, it would provide a stepping stone to advance on two bigger cities it has long coveted in the Donetsk region: Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Dresden was bombed by British and Americans as were most German cities – British bomb by night, Americans by day.
Dresden was a definite target – it had a major garrison and at least 190 companies engaged in armaments manufacture plus Albertstadt. The whole place was full of military targets and it was the staging post for troops into Czechoslovakia and Poland.

To some extent. But the targets chosen were also militarily valid locations that would have needed to be attacked in any event in advance of the land invasion, particularly Hiroshima.
All militaries look for opportunities to give new weapons live fire tests. If the nukes hadn’t worked, or been shot down, or whatever, Hiroshima and Kokura/Nagasaki likely wouldn’t have been spared. They would have been subjected to conventional mass fire bombing, like dozens of other cities already had been.

Look, this Bakhmut drama is scarcely worth commenting on anymore. There is nothing going on there that isn’t being milked and massaged somehow. If Russia wanted to take Bakhmut, it could just pull the Wagners back and firebomb the last remaining Ukrainians and be done with it. Russia obviously has little interest in actually “taking” Bakhmut. It’s been very lucrative for the SMO in terms of constantly drawing the Ukrainian military into a trap, where countless tens of thousands of men and much material has been easily destroyed by the Russians, and it has been equally lucratve for Prigozhin himself, who is after all running a PMC. It’s just been too convenient for both Moscow and Wagner to milk the current arrangement for all it’s worth, which is why Moscow has to put up with Prigozhin’s occasional theatrics.
This is not going to stop until we enter a whole new phase of the conflict, , when Russia starts shifting its perspective towards Kiev, towards the Ukrainian regime proper, and towards NATO. The lovable Mercouris, as always, has been reliably enthusiastic but always behind the music.

Wow, and thank you, Paul. You have added much to the significance of the Dresden holocast. I have not been there, but each year as we Orthodox celebrate what is called ‘Candlemas’ in the old British church celebration (‘The Meeting in the Temple’ for Orthodox) mid February, my little church family would remember when our priest was in Dresden, having been held in a prison camp there as a young man. He had made his way to the Orthodox cathedral,(I can’t imagine what that journey was like!) which became the only building left standing after the firebombing in that area (there is a photo somewhere). They were in the basement overnight; a great wind had rushed through the cathedral but they survived there, came up for the feast and restored some order; then gave thanks.
Apologies for being somewhat off-topic. I did not know the details you provide here. Again, thank you.

You seem to think because there were military targets in the city, there was no other option than to burn down the entire city. Hiroshima had a garrison and military factories just like Dresden, but does that justify mass murder?
I had to look up Albertstadt which Wikipedia says was the military center of the region but (amazingly) was “not specially attacked in the 1945 allied bombings and it suffered only marginal destruction.” Sounds like they destroyed the entire city except the one major military target.

Russian 2S43 “Malva” caliber 152 mm against 155 mm NATO guns: who wins?
Read below👇

The General Director of UVZ pleased us all with the fact that the first domestic 152-mm wheeled self-propelled gun is fully ready for mass production and all test cycles have been completed. …
So what is 2S43 “Malva”?
At its core, this is an Msta-K, but of the 21st century, on the BAZ chassis. Everyone knows “Msta-B”, “Msta-S”. So this is exactly the same 2A64 gun, but more than ten tons lighter than the famous tracked Msta (32 against 42-45 tons). …
And due to mobility, despite more modest armor, it is much more tenacious in war, where drones hang in the sky, they are looking for a victim of kamikaze UAVs and the enemy’s counter-battery radars are on the alert.
If we talk about dry characteristics, then the firing range of conventional high-explosive fragmentation shells is 24 km, and active-reactive shells are up to 30 km. …

Norwegian Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen said that Norway, together with the UK, will transfer 8 M270 MLRS and 3 ARTHUR artillery reconnaissance radars to Ukraine.
ARTHUR radars were previously supplied to the Ukrainian military by Sweden, the destruction (https://t.me/milinfolive/97231) of one station was confirmed.

What a bunch of nonsense. I don’t have any patience for the manipulative ‘oh, the poor innocent Japanese’ framing and attempts at emotional blackmail on this issue,. The fact is that the Japanese refused to surrender and refused to give up their Empire, an empire that was often exceptionally bad even by world historical standards (though not universally. Japan had no real systemic standards for imperial management. It was often up to the whims of local leaders and officers. Some places were pretty okay, like Formosa/Taiwan. Other’s were absolutely atrocious, like the Philippines or parts of China). Japan started a war, shed an extreme amount of blood, and eventually that war came all the way back to their heartland. Horrible yes, because that’s what war is. It could have been ended by the Japanese government agreeing to surrender long before they actually did. It’s not like Japan was some giant castle filled with the besieged remnants of an army cowering besides women and children. The Japanese Empire was still largely intact and continuing to function, often in a murderous and abusive way, on a daily basis. It still had force projection.
RB | May 19 2023 6:22 utc | 327
Absolutely false. The Japanese militarists wanted to preserve as much of their Empire as possible. Keeping the institution of the Emperor was only one of their demands (and ironically one they ended up getting even with the unconditional surrender because DC gave MacArthur carte blanche to run Japan as he saw fit, and he decided keeping the Emperor was easier than getting rid of him. At the very least Hirohito should have been forced to abdicate and his reign ended with Japan’s total defeat. The Showa era should have ended right then and there, in complete ignominy. Let the rebuilding happen after a clean break and the start of a new era). The US strategy had revolved around island hopping and bypassing most of the Empire while aiming straight for the home islands. Japan still controlled a vast amount of occupied territory, including Taiwan, Korea, and large parts of China. It wasn’t ‘some colonies’.
There were several estimates for US casualties in the event of an invasion. There was one that revisionists love to cite because the numbers were ‘only’ in the tens of thousands. There’s no evidence anyone took it seriously. Truman certainly didn’t. MacArthur, who would have been in charge of running the invasion, estimated hundreds of thousands of US casualties, and who knows what the Japanese losses, including civilians, would have been. The US was fresh off off the brutal fighting for Iwo Jima and Okinawa and had every reason to think the fighting for the home islands would be at least an order of magnitude worse.
As for rapes, yes yes, right, and the Red Army raped every girl and woman in Berlin, right. Even if that were true, that’s after something like 30% of the Okinawan population were killed in the fighting, a large number of them either committing suicide or being forced towards American lines at gunpoint (I guess lots of people don’t get this: Okinawans aren’t Japanese. They’re Ryukyuan. They’ve gone a long way towards total assimilation since, but certainly in 1945 they were absolutely viewed as inferior and more disposable by the main island Japanese).
Also, this is absolutely not a line you want to pursue if the attempt is to make the Japanese out to be more virtuous than their ‘barbarian, racist, genocidal’ opponents. This is not a game you want to try and play. The attempts to make the Japanese out to be innocent victims while the Americans were supposedly uniquely civilian murdering monsters is baffling and displays a ludicrous degree of cognitive bias and historical illiteracy. Do you know literally nothing about how the Empire of Japan was formed, expanded, and maintained? The babies of Nanking skewered on bayonets was a thing that literally happened, and much else besides.

On top of the extra 3 billion USD they’re getting do to an ‘accounting error’, Biden just approved F-16 training for UK pilots and said he wouldn’t object to any NATO member sending Ukraine those jets.

“Do you know literally nothing about how the Empire of Japan was formed, expanded, and maintained?”
Who cares? How was it the business of the United States to interfere if Japan wanted to expand its empire in Asia? Same as it’s none of our damn business now what Russia wants to do in Ukraine. America’s concerns other than trade should end at the water line. George Washington was right way at the start of the nation: stay out of foreign conflicts.
We have now won two world-wars, neither of which concerned us, we were
slipped in. We have levelled the powers
Of Europe, that were the powers of the world, into rubble and
dependence. We have won two wars and a third is coming.
This one—will not be so easy. We were at ease while the powers of the
world were split into factions: we’ve changed that.
We have enjoyed fine dreams; we have dreamed of unifying the world; we
are unifying it — against us.
Two wars, and they breed a third. Now guard the beaches, watch the
north, trust not the dawns. Probe every cloud.
Build power. Fortress America may yet for a long time stand, between the
east and the west, like Byzantium.
—As for me: laugh at me. I agree with you. It is a foolish business to
see the future and screech at it.
One should watch and not speak. And patriotism has run the world through
so many blood-lakes: and we always fall in.

Anonymous, check the cap, Prigozhin just posted an info request concerning the whereabouts of Zaluzhny, his answer:
For obvious reasons I do not have complete info about his whereabouts, but, I can say that on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of May he was in an area able to be reached by our weapons, we took a set of measures, were those measures successful or not we don’t know for sure. Same thing goes for Tantsyura on the second of May. That’s all the info that I have right now.

Also a rail hub for German troops shuttling between the fronts and transporting Jews to the concentration camps. Anytime a sanctimonious comment is made about Allied bombing I always fall back on Harris’ apposite comment.
‘The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.’
The trouble today is that the veterans of WW2 are mostly dead, so cannot defend themselves from agenda- pushing, revisionists or people who are ignorant of historical context. Climb into a WW2 bomber; imagine you are in your early twenties, three miles up, on an eight hour mission that might end any second in a few fleeting seconds of hellish terror, then talk about the iniquities of bombing cities that help sustain the conflict that has forced you to be there, derailing your life and countless millions of others.

If we take the earlier example, that the Kinzhal is fired from across the border at around 100-150km from Kiev, let’s assume that the top of the ballistic arc happens at roughly the midway point. That means roughly the remaining 50km or so could be spent on the downward trajectory of that arc, coming out of stealth. But even at Mach 4-5, 50km will be covered in about 28 seconds. It may begin blipping into radar screens at some point during this but it will leave very little time to react for all but the most finely honed/trained crews.
@karlof1 | May 18 2023 21:12 utc | 119
Given the speeds involved, range, and such a short detection time of Kinzhal, what was the Patriot system shooting at? It unloads for a full 2min – could that possibly be even before the Kinzhal is launched?

Fair enough to my mind, if a state wants to maintain or reclaim its own sovereignty and laws that is a good thing but I cannot see any good in deliberately cutting yourself off from major trading partners and markets.
Now, even more than before it is seeking relevancy and is determined to be more of a US poodle than it ever was and to be seen by its masters as such.

Maerican weaponry has been globally exposed as obsolete, overpriced and difficult to use garbage. I’m looking forward to the images of wrecked M1 Abrams and F16 in Ukraine, should do wonders for those arms sales, eh.
I am also enjoying watching the almighty Dollar, the basis for all Maerican power, slowly roast on the bonfire the Maericans themselves prepared, unable to extricate themselves. What to do?
You can lie all day to your domestic population. Too bad the rest of the world’s militaries are watching and drawing the same conclusions any thinking person does…Maerican weaponry is unfit for purpose ..unless that purpose is to enrich defense company executives.

Again, the talismanic, trained by a Western country, without asking the salient question, what experience of the SMO do Swedish (of all nations) instructors have? The Western trained Azov forces, who attacked the Bakhmut flanks, were surprised at the coordination and volume of the Russian’s defensive fire, which speaks volumes about the knowledge of their trainers, beyond doctrinal application.

The USA would only accept unconditional surrender. This is, of course, psychopathic and goes against all norms of warfare. America’s war against the Japanese people was a genocidal war for white supremacy (just as all of America’s wars have been throughout history). The sufferings of those under Japanese empire did not enter the equation. This should be obvious. Genocidal white supremacist Americans could not care less about Chinese people even today, as they attempt to start a white supremacist war against China now (Biden himself has framed the war against China in explicitly white supremacist terms). The USA simply would not allow a power that was not white western European to exist. Only English, French, etc. could be allowed to have any control over land or resources, and this was the root of the war. Americans spoke quite frankly about this at the time. If the USA were trying to be the anti-imperial global human rights police, as you seem to imply, and as American revisionist history claims, then they would also have needed to go to war against Britain, France, and their own country as well. But that wasn’t the motive and is only ever given as post hoc justification for America’s genocide against the Japanese people.

@ HERMIUS, §275:
The Falklands aren´t and never have been Argentine territory.
They have been British since their discovery in 1690.
Their indigenous inhabitants – the “natives” – are British.
Posted by: John Marks | May 19 2023 12:20 utc | 425

That is correct. Argentina itself didn’t come into existence until the 19th century.
And the Falklands were originally uninhabited — there may have been visits from the mainland, but it’s just to windswept and cold for stable permanent settlement without modern technology.
Also, Argentina is really in no position for moral grandstanding on “colonialism”, because its history isn’t like that of most other Latin American countries, which gained independence in some approximate version of their modern borders — the southern tip of South America had not been conquered by the Spanish when Argentina came into existence, and initially it didn’t control much territory south of Buenos Aires. Patagonia was only conquered through a brutal quite openly genocidal war in the 1870s and 1880s, which is mostly after the analogous process had finished even in the US. And the natives there were in fact looking for establishing and protecting their independence, it wasn’t a terra nullius at all.

Any, he states that really the Knizal missile is not in fact a proper hypersonic missile, that it is only a ballistic missile.

Neither the old fart, nor the decrepit, dying civilization he emerged from has ever seen or built a hypersonic missile, so he wouldn’t know.
He’s referring to the fact that in the last phase prior to striking a *ground* target the Khinzal (at least one known model) transits from Hypersonic to supersonic – it must do so to stop from burning up in the lower atmosphere.
Up to that point the hypersonic missile is invisible to radar due to it’s speed causing a plasma shield as it transits higher layers of the atmosphere.
Now, something that can move at hypersonic speeds through one layer of the atmosphere, home in on a target in lower layers, appears out of nowhere on radar as it slows down to supersonic to hit it’s target before air defense can even react … sounds pretty “hyper maneuverable” to me.

Couldn’t it be, then as now, that the target is and was not only to destroy Russian?! Could it be the
goal was (also) to destroy Germans, and now Ukrainians? How else would you explain some Ukrainians
still holding positions in Bahkmut (Tetris/MIG) and reinforcements being send in till yesterday. The
only sensible explanation to me is they are the target.. Just as Germans fighting all the way back
from Moscow to Berlin, for what reasons other then to get destroyed?
Did they die, as the Ukrainians now, without sense – or instead by design? In Bakhmut now as back then
in Berlin.

They’re trying to claim several things, and they mix them up freely in order to confuse the already ignorant target audience.
The first claim is that it is just an air-launched Iskander. Not really true — it derives from it, but goes much faster.
Second claim is that all ballistic missiles are hypersonic in some portion of their flight — even the V-2 reached (barely) Mach 5 in WWII — so there is nothing new here. Technically true, what makes a true hypersonic is whether it’s maneuverable at Mach 5+. The Kinzhal supposedly is — it is a quasiballistic, not a purely ballistic missile — but how much and during which phases of the flight exactly is not known (for the Zirkon, there are no doubts — it is a scramjet cruise missile — but those have not been used in the SMO, and likely won’t be until they have to carry nukes at NATO targets).
Third claim is that it slows down to only supersonic speeds when impacting. Possibly true — nobody has actual info on that, it’s all classified and there is no footage.
It’s all really silly, of course — if it was just an air-launched Iskander, Russians would be firing these with abandon, the way they have launched many hundreds of Iskanders so far. But it has only been used on very special occasions — we know of at most 10 Kinzhals being used in total — two on two separate occasions early in the war, as a warning, then the 6 in the early March 2023 strike, then the two (which might even have been just one) when the Patriot battery was destroyed (and if it was two, the second probably went to some bunker that nobody will ever talk about).
But the propaganda machine in the West is in total gegenpressing mode to brainwash the ignorant masses that there is no serious threat and they can escalate as much as they want, so don’t expect objective analysis.

The National Socialists understood the logic of liberal Democracy and almost allowed Europe to survive as Europe. Harris was a shabby goy. While the Germans did tactically bomb a few liberal regimes to force surrender they didn’t mean to exterminate the Dutch, Spanish, French, Poles, Czechs, Greeks etc they were trying to prevent Globohomogayplex form taking root. The RAF guys and USAAF knew not what they did to burn the hearkt out of Europe like they did. Strategic bombing was designed to exterminate entire cities. Noting the Luftwaffe did outside Leningrad, and Stalingrad was anything like this scale of genocide.

And before you argue that we forced them to attack, no, of course we didn’t. No one forced the Japanese to launch a war other than the Japanese themselves. We did embargoes, which were frankly entirely justified, in response to Japan’s blatant expansionist movements against China. Japan was so hellbent on maintaining and continuing to expand its empire that it convinced itself it had to fight the US, and land a heavy enough first blow that we’d negotiate with them. They horribly miscalculated.
Sometimes people suggest US neocons did, or at least allowed, 9/11 as an excuse for overseas military action. For the sake of argument, maybe they did (I actually lean towards the Bush administration deliberately being half-assed hoping something like 9/11 would happen). But by the same token, the Japanese did the same thing in China, with completely fraudulent incidents designed to give justification.

Maybe. And we’re just as wrong now as Japan was then.

Not in this case, note the clown face in the TG post, they doubt the effectiveness of this new formation and so do I. Of interest was the Archer artillery system and renewed contempt for Nazi consorts who ought to have learned their lesson the first time around.

If you happened to be the commander of the flagship of a carrier battle group and a Kinzhal was detected with, perhaps 60 or 75 seconds warning, knowing that you could not intercept it, knowing you have a flight deck with several dozen fully fuelled and armed aircraft, knowing that, below deck, you have ammo magazines, fuel storage, high-pressure steam pipes etc., knowing that your 100,000 tonne displacement vessel can’t stop or turn on a sixpence, what would you do?

Not a problem, already had my brown trousers on.

“this doesn’t prove Kinzhal is invincible or a Patriot killer IMHO.”
I doubt there are many willing to validate your conclusion. It is a reasonable assumption that the US and Russia will proceed as proven or demonstrated.

From WP today, Zelensky addressing the Arab League:
“Look at how much suffering the long-term wars have brought to Libya, Syria, Yemen; how many lives have been wasted by years of fighting in Sudan and Somalia, in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Zelensky may have missed the common denominator here but consolidation in the Middle East demonstrates precisely the point.

It may be the Russians who ultimately decide who takes over.

A massive understatement re Dresden and, by inference, Churchill’s complicity. But what would you expect from Martin Gilbert? At least quote someone credible.

One way about thinking about the Hersh Report is that what it accomplished is that it allowed people to assert what already knew to a reasonable certainty. It gave them permission because they had a source they could reference to.
