Drones Strikes In Moscow – Missile Strikes In Ukraine

Today the Russian government revealed some numbers and information about its 'Special Military Operation'.

Today's 'clobber report' by the Ministry of Defense leads with this (machine translation):

During the day, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out group strikes using long-range high-precision air-launched weapons at central decision-making points where, under the guidance of specialists from Western intelligence agencies, terrorist acts were planned on Russian territory.

All assigned objects are hit.

'Central decision-making points' are ministries and main headquarters. These had so far not been targets. More to that below.

Defense Minister Shoigu had a conference call with the military command and noted:

"Russian forces continue to inflict an effective fire impact on the enemy. Its losses this month alone totaled over 16,000 troops, 16 aircraft, 5 helicopters, 466 drones, over 400 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, and 238 field artillery pieces and mortars," Shoigu said during a conference call.

He added that 196 HIMARS rockets, 16 HARM rockets and 29 Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles were intercepted and destroyed during the reviewed period.

The numbers are, with the exception of the downed Storm Shadows,  largely consistent with the numbers from the daily 'clobber report' in my spreadsheet. But I have only counted 17 reported Storm Shadow kills over the last month. I do not know where Shoigu's 29 is coming from.

Shoigu also spoke of targets of the recent drone attacks in Ukraine (machine translation):

“The deliveries of equipment and weapons to Ukraine are increasing. We monitor the volumes and routes of supply and, if identified, strike.

In recent days, large warehouses of Western weapons in Khmelnytsky, Ternopil and Nikolaev have been destroyed, the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv has been hit,” the Minister of Defense said.

"The military support of Ukraine only delays the hostilities, but cannot affect the outcome of the special military operation," the head of the military department is sure.

On today's drone strikes in Moscow he said (machine translation):

“This morning, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist act in the Moscow region. I will note, on civilian objects.

It involved eight aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.

They are all amazed.

In Moscow, three drones were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control and deviated from their intended targets.

Five more were shot down in the Moscow region by the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun system, the Minister of Defense said.

Other people had claimed up to 20 drones. But there was little damage and no reports of any casualties.

Also today was the third large drone and missile strike on Kiev within 24 hours. The were a total 17 strikes on Kiev in May 2023. I do not believe that Ukraine's claim of shooting down all missiles and drones is in any way reasonable. There will be a lot of damage in places Kiev does not want to talk about. The air defense in Kiev and elsewhere is exhausted and likely to soon run out of missiles. That will certainly increase the effectiveness of Russian strikes.

President Putin seemed to confirm that today's attack on a 'central decision-making points' hit the headquarter of military intelligence in Kiev:

Mark Sleboda @MarkSleboda1 – 13:28 UTC · May 30, 2023

Putin confirms recent Russian missile strike on Kiev regime military intelligence, under Budanov, which had claimed credit for several recent assassinations & terrorist bombings of civilians in Russia.

Budanov is a pretty nasty piece of s***. In a recent interview with Yahoo his threats were certainly not within the frame of any law:

The implication is that Budanov’s intelligence service, more commonly known by its Ukrainian acronym HUR, was behind a string of audacious and lethal attacks inside Russian territory — or what the Kremlin considers to be Russian territory. These include the August car-bomb assassination of Daria Dugina, daughter of Russia’s notorious far-right theorist Aleksandr Dugin, in central Moscow, and the suspected truck bombing in October that partially dismantled the Kerch Bridge, Russia’s only direct link from the Black Sea to occupied Crimea.

U.S. intelligence has attributed Dugina’s killing to the Ukrainian government, although not specifically to the HUR. Asked about this allegation, Budanov said, “Don’t continue with that topic. All I will comment on is that we’ve been killing Russians and we will keep killing Russians anywhere on the face of this world until the complete victory of Ukraine.

Budanov should note that the old warrior tale has been updated to: "Live by the sword, die by the dagger missile."

When can’t they just this end for this all of us?
They will be safe in their Wyoming bunkers.
Stooper tired. They would be doing us all a favor. Nothing is going to get better.
Why do I come to MoA?
I just got off the phone with a friend from Dnitstsoprovosk. It is only going to escalate.
Luckily, in LA, I just get to see some big flash in the sky.

Biden is the one who lost 20% of Ukrainian territory and 1 mil of Ukrainian cannon fodder supplied by whole NATO cannt get it back.
So sorry, clown, your junk drones cannt change anything either. So sad. So much butthurt. You can repeat all day long about the greatest operation of Ukraine of sending few junk drones towards Moscow. And that wont help you anyhow.
So much winning, yeah? Laughing my ass off about these Ukrop idiots LOL

It turns out that 16 creative industries are recognized in the world: the art industry; folk crafts; music, performing arts and cultural and leisure activities; cinema and animation; photo; publishing activity; television and radio broadcasting; IT and computer games; advertising; architecture; design; fashion; jewelry business; activities of libraries, archives and museums; cultural heritage; education in the creative industries.
All the same, the actions of the President of the Russian Federation in recent months make us seriously think about the adequacy of certain of his actions and decisions. Or about the adequacy of his inner circle, planning a similar daily routine for the president. Although this can also be explained by the conspiracy theory that this is done on purpose. In order to compromise him as much as possible, since some of the elites have already written him off as scrap and are preparing public opinion for his departure.
Trying to push a massive attack of Ukrainian UAVs on the Russian capital by a meeting with representatives of the creative industries into the background, it is necessary not to understand at all what is happening in the country and in the world. We all saw something similar last fall, when he opened the Ferris wheel in Moscow at a time when our troops in the Kharkov region were retreating at the Russian border with heavy losses. Or his constant concern for the development of ecotourism and autotourism during the period of heavy fighting in Ukraine. And much more…
Where are we going? Where is the country headed?

Where it is not headed is down the path Hitler trod when Berlin was attacked by Bomber Command… That incident prompted Hitler to order all his bomb assets used against London, thus negating the very great destruction of much of fighter command, it’s planes, pilots, airfields, and ground crew…
By his words and deeds, Putin is telling his people…”This is much ado about nothing”….
“However, Shoigu…. make improments to the AAD net….”
Which they will….

In response to Membrum Virile@113,
As I said, it wouldn’t actually dispute Russian claims on Moscow & St. Petersburg, only the legitimacy of the Russian government. I’m not arguing about whether the scenario is realistic or not, we can look at hypotheticals involving aliens and black magic if you think that would help your argument. The point remains that only Russians are claiming Moscow, so it can’t be considered disputed territory.

These types of improvised drone attacks are very hard to prevent. Remember, the Houthis humbled the Saudis with similar (and much more successful in at least one case) drone strikes.
But in the end, they aren’t gonna change the outcome. If Russia wants to respond, the best way would be asymmetric. Send a few sleeper cells across the US southern border, and show Biden that two can play the game of terror drone hobbyists.

I will educate you. They have a country, Belgium, with internationally recognised borders, whose citizens they are. Exactly the same as Ukrainians. No matter the language they speak, or genetics, they are Ukrainians. Borders recognised internationally, also by Russia in 1991. Guaranteeing their borders too. My my, what a agreement incapable nation Russia is.
Posted by: Membrum Virile | May 30 2023 18:20 utc | 106

Let me educate you…. Vicki Nulan of the US State Dept spent $5,000,000,000 USD subverting the elected government of Ukraine, to put in place a Cabal from Lvov, which worshipped Bandera, and Hitler’s NAZIS.
One of the first acts of this regime was an attack on protesters in Odessa, including incineration of 51 of them in the Trade Union Building, which was burnt to the ground. Another of the early acts was removal of Crimean protesters on their way home, from the busses they hired, at an illegal check point, where the majority of them were beaten, in come cases, to death.
This NAZI regime declared that all Russian speakers, the Russian Orthodox Church, and all monuments to the victors of the Great Patriotic War were persona non grata. It took control of Mariupol at gun point.
Only Strelkov, Givi, Motorola, Mozgovoi and a few others stood in their way. This group bought enough time for resistance to be organized against the NAZIS..
The Crimeans voted to return to Russia, which infuriates the USN to this very day, because it negated their plans for a base at Sebastopol.
Tne Atlantic Council recently re-issued their plans for the breakup of Russia into statelets.
The NAZI Kiev Regime recently announced their intent to retake Crimea and exterminate 4 million Russians who live there.
It is obvious it is you who need my size 12 up your ass… I won’t stop there… I’ll take my fists and render your face the equivalent of hamburger…..
Because there is only one kind of education your kind accepts and that is a baseball bat between the eyes..

Wait a minute, so now there’s three of me!!!
OK, so here’s Sputnik on some of today’s developments: https://sputnikglobe.com/20230530/putin-confirms-russian-strike-on-ukrainian-military-intel-hq-in-kiev-1110796241.html

Putin Confirms Russian Strike on Ukrainian Military Intel HQ in Kiev
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense had been hit in an overnight Russian missile strike. The strike followed a series of threats by senior Main Intelligence Directorate officials to “kill Russians” around the world.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that Russia carried out an attack on the headquarters of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry in Kiev.
“Since the start of the special military operation, the Russian Armed Forces are striking Ukraine, but using high-precision weapons. They are targeting military infrastructure, arms depots and other targets that could be used for military action,” Putin said, speaking to a reporter at an economic exhibition on Tuesday.
“We’ve already mentioned that we can strike decision-making centers and headquarters. Obviously, the Military Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s headquarters is also such a target. And in response, as you are well aware, the Kiev regime chose a different path, a path to try to intimidate Russia and its citizens, to try to target residential buildings. It is an obvious indicator of terrorist activity,” Putin said, referring to Tuesday morning’s attempted drone attack on the Russian capital.
The president expressed contentment with the state of Moscow’s air defenses, saying they had worked “in a satisfactory manner” in deflecting Tuesday’s morning attack, although “there’s still some progress to be made.”
“We’ve faced similar problems in Khmeimim in Syria, although of course the size of the territories of our airbase in Syria and Moscow are not comparable, because Moscow is a huge city…But it’s obvious what needs to be done to make the air defenses around our capital city better, and we will do that,” Putin said.
Putin said he was concerned by Kiev’s apparent attempt to push Russia into a mirror response. “We’ll see what we do with this,” he said, while expressing hope that ordinary Ukrainians will come to recognize what their government is pushing them towards, not only through the drone attack on Moscow, but attempts to target the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
The Russian president also delved into a bit of history surrounding the Ukrainian crisis, saying that after the collapse of the USSR in 1991, the country came under the control of people seeking to create a Western-backed “anti-Russia.” At the same time, he said, NATO, after decades of expansion – despite commitments to Moscow not to do so, had found its way to Ukraine’s doorstep, declaring its doors open to Kiev at the alliance’s Bucharest Summit in 2008.
“It’s not enough that they lied to us when they said that there would be no eastward expansion of NATO. They’ve even reached Ukraine. And in 2014, as you are well aware, carried out a coup d’etat and started to eliminate everyone who wanted to have normal relations with Russia in one way or another. Besides this, they started a war in the Donbass, and then lied to everyone when they said they want to resolve the situation with peaceful means. Now they admit openly that they were lying, and that they just wanted to win some time to muster their forces” in preparation for a conflict with Russia, Putin said.
Putin’s comments follow reports in Ukrainian and Russian media earlier in the day that Russia had attacked and destroyed the headquarters of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate in Kiev in a missile strike. Traffic along the bridge leading to to the island where the directorate is based was blocked off in the early hours of May 30.
The Ukrainian MoD’s Main Intelligence Directorate is responsible for coordinating sabotage, terror and drone attacks inside Russia. In recent weeks, its senior officials have made a series of unambiguous statements about the need to ramp up efforts to “kill Russians,” both in Russia and around the world.
“All I will comment on is that we’ve been killing Russians and we will keep killing Russians anywhere on the face of this world until the complete victory of Ukraine,” Military Intelligence Directorate head Kyrylo Budanov said in an interview with US media earlier this month, after being asked to comment on whether Kiev was involved in last year’s murder of Russian journalist Daria Dugina. Several weeks later, Budanov confirmed to German media that the list of his agency’s targets include Russia’s president.

Absolute horse shit! If that were in any way true, why has the Kiev regime been firing artillery shells at these civilians since the ‘Anti Terrorist Operation’ in 2014.
Posted by: Lev Davidovich | May 30 2023 17:40 utc | 79

Ukronazi brain is not capable of consistent thought.
They are shelling, both indiscriminately, and with PGMs, people in the Donbass, while claiming that the Donbass is theirs and those people are under “occupation”.
But then you are shelling your own civilians. And NATO bombed Serbia to the stone age for allegedly doing the same (allegedly). Where is the consistency?
Worse, they started doing the same to people in Kherson and the Zaporozhye as soon as they lost control of those territories. And the people there had not spent eight years are de facto independent territories, so the fairy tale about how Russians moved in millions of orcs from the depths of Mordor there simply does not apply — those people were all Ukrainian citizens on February 24th 2022.
And then there are the open calls for genocide of the Russian territories, where the cognitive dissonance is also startling. So you are trying to tell us that there are no Russians in Ukraine but you are planning on doing ethnic cleansing of people who were born and raised on that territory? How does that make any sense?
Etc. etc. etc.

I find it worrisome that the drones could penetrate into the boundary of Moscow.
It’s seems most probably that these drones were launched within Moscow and controlled by agents within Moscow. There are millions of Ukrainians living in Russia. Any number of them could be employees of any number of non Russian agencies.
These attacks in Moscow are meaningless hand waving.
A) Russian war aims where to prevent Nato from moving closer to Russia. Finland is now part of Nato. Russia will have to do something about that after it has dealt with Ukraine. Finland perhaps means that Russian war aims have inevitably expanded
B) Nato is supremely confident that Russia will not risk war with Nato. Otherwise why would they happily ship so much equipment to Ukraine to be destroyed. I see no signs within Natostan that there is a big, enthusiastic move to rearm (except Possibly in Poland ?)
C) Contrary to Natos Confidence, Finland and the every increasing escalation from Nato means Russia must be calculating, more or less constantly, the odds of it’s winning a conventional fight with Nato and what winning would look like. Russia must be looking at things and realizing that they have about a 10 year window before the demographic trends turn decisively against them. Also, they must realize they have a narrow window – open now – where they have some technical advantages over Nato. In other words, Russia will never be strong than they are now to fight and win a conventional fight with Nato.

Escalation:
Doesn’t even need to be an issue. Just take the wrappers off the FAB 2000’s and the MOAB’s.
Have a dozen Mother of all bombs on Livov finishes this war. Didn’t even have to go nuclear. Half a dozen MOAB’s will turn Livov into Marinka. Rest of Ukraine sees what MOAB’s can do and the population will over run the Nazis in kiev or flee to the Polish border.
GAME OVER !
Killed two birds with one stone. It would be over and that Nazi pest problem breeding out of Livov would be eradicated.
If the Nazis are deliberately going to attack civilian shelters in Belgorod just take the wrappers off. 6 MOAB’s is all it would take.
The Poles can organise tourist tours around Livov from Warsaw called ” Don’t poke the bear tours. ” A gentle reminder of when your mouth can’t cash Cheques your body can afford.
6 MOAB’s to finish this thing and save Russian civilian lives is the deal of the century if you ask me. The globalists in the West arses would pucker up quicker than Victoria Nuland’s clitoris in an ice bath.

Russia’s cautious, measured, humane, diplomatic approach is leading the west to believe that they can continue to provoke.
I worry that if it takes too long for reaction, the reaction will have to be more drastic to make the west give-up it’s ambitions.
Normal people would look at where this is headed and decide that it is counter-productive. But these people are not normal it seems.
They use bureaucratic violence – they hide behind ambiguous words and documents and institutions. They can get away with it and if they get caught they will be able to evade blame and if they are blamed, there will be no repercussions for them – for the nation and the people there will be great repercussions.
Failing to respond has it’s own repercussions.
Well, I have to assume they know what they are doing. It is over my head.

Why would a couple of Polish Air force cargo planes fly out of Chisinau airport? Is Moldavia in NATO lately?
Why is Italian Global Hawk flying hidden within or very near Belorussian border around Brest at the hight around 18 km unobstructed?
It is also so many false transponders or incomplete info transmitted today over Europe that it is ridiculous. It is the same behaviour on many online sky traffic trackers.
I met today with a close friend online, as he is working as a civilian air control in one of the capitol Western European cities.
He said that skies are a total mess lately, also claiming that there is amazing military air force presence along Eastern borders. Once he counted on the radar 40 NATO military planes in the air. This happens for some time, day in and day out, sometimes more and sometimes less.
Obligatory 2-3 stratotankers always present.
Also, he claims that there is a constant presence of drones and AWACS from at least 6 countries on and offing their ID’s.
What I understand from currently described activities is that definitely something getting going, probably along some “sudden self proclamation of a no-fly zone” or similar great idea NATO might have.
To me, as it sounds ridiculous, I believe there are enough hawks within NATO that do not believe in RF’s AA overall domination.
Sure, NATO coalition has more planes, but is more the better in this case?
Using that incentive as a pretext to engage against RF forces along the Donbass contact lines while Ukraine does its counter-offensive ballet.
Probably that thinking comes out of a “successful” manner as it was done in Bosnia and later in Montenegro and Serbia.
A slow sky creep-up tactics, sneaky NATO way.
I know, it sounds, or it might be stupid, but one has to think along the stupid ones in order to find out the possible threat.
I cannot imagine the other reason for having so much planes on the constant patrol.

China will not get involved unless directly attacked and their involvement will be limited to that particular “theater.” They aren’t stupid; sitting around and watching the US and collective Euro-centric “West” stumble their way into irrelevance has got to be quite entertaining to the Chinese. With the added benefit that each day NATO pumps more weapons into Ukraine, they are minimizing their chances in a war over Taiwan.

They flew from the southwest and didn’t get past the suburbs of Moscow. Extremely unlikely they were launched from within Moscow. It could have been from Kaluga or Bryansk, but there is really no need — these drones have the range to get to Moscow from Chernigov.

According to Simplicius’s latest sitrep, Ukraine has already fired off more than 40% of the annual US production of PATRIOT missiles. And that in just two raids on Kiev (May 15 and 29) at least 20% of the annual MIM-104s were expended. How much longer can the FUKUSNATO crowd keep going?

I see both my replies to wagelaborer finally were posted. In the interim, I documented Lavrov’s current exploits in Africa where he had a difficult time avoiding the subject of Ukraine as one can imagine. One appearance was a presser where only one Q&A apparently occurred according to the transcript. This was from earlier today and I expect Lavrov’s answer to be the basis for a Russian policy change:

Question: You have already spoken about the situation in Ukraine. We see that the West has taken a consistent course to increase the supply of weapons to the Kyiv regime. At the same time, calls for the extermination of Russians, the extermination of the civilian population in Russia are increasingly heard among the Western elites. How do you inform about this and do you inform your African partners, especially since the whole situation is already close to the scale of genocide?
Sergey Lavrov: We talked about this in detail today. There is no doubt that the Kiev regime has long switched to openly terrorist methods. For this, weapons are used, with which the West pumps this regime. The statements of the West that the supplied weapons should not be used against the Russian Federation are another lie. As for the threats against the Russians, we also told our friends today about how we view this situation.
Threats to kill Russians came from many representatives of the Kiev regime, including Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Danilov, adviser to the head of Vladimir Zelensky’s administration Mikhail Podolyak, and several Ukrainian ambassadors abroad. Now one of the US senators has opened up on this topic.
Because the West insists that there is no other basis for resolving the Ukrainian situation, except for the notorious “peace formula” of Vladimir Zelensky, and at the same time his team threatens, having liberated Crimea and the eastern regions of Ukraine, to start killing all Russians and destroying everything Russian there. The conclusion is simple: the West directly supports genocide. To a certain extent, this is a qualitatively new development of the situation, when the West first became a direct participant in the war unleashed against the Russian Federation, and now also calls for genocide.
It is always better to know the truth about who is up to you. We found out this truth a long time ago. We will proceed from the fact that the West takes this position. We understand that against this background, the ideas expressed by the countries of the Global Majority, including African countries, that they would like to contribute to the search for some ways to overcome this situation, are voiced sincerely, out of a desire to help in some way. We appreciate this attitude. But it is necessary to consider all these ideas and initiatives in the context of the geopolitical confrontation started by the West against the Russian Federation, and at the same time against China, as it was recently proclaimed in the documents of the “seven”. [My Emphasis]

Hopefully my comment will go through on the first click.

I see no sign of rational behaviour and statements from the west just now, just a ratcheting up of inflammatory language.

Neither do I, and that’s what makes me so pessimistic. From the start of this SMO (and even the time preceding it) it was crystal clear: Nobody in Brussels has a reverse gear. They all keep pushing in one direction, which is toward escalation. There is as much brain, reason, flexibility involved as in a lynchmob. If you don’t have a reverse gear, by which I mean the capacity to re-evaluate your decisions, possibly with the opposite result, and embark on an exit strategy – then you are bound to hit something real hard. And this applies currently to all of Europe (minus Hungary and Serbia). If there is nobody speaking up in Brussels, then I see no way how we could get out of this situation without nuclear war.
Have WW1 and WW2 “resolved” anything in any way? No, they were of the “winner takes it all” type. They were fought out until the very end, when one party was completely finished. That’s where we are heading again, but this time the catastrophe will be much more severe and affect the “winning” side as well.

@132 Cont’d–
I should add that no one on Team Biden or from EU/NATO have denounced the genocidal rantings of the Ukies and the US Donkey the implication of silence being that of complicity much like WW2 when Nazi extermination camps were well know to the West but media was barred from publishing about them until Russia broke the news with photos of the first camps it liberated in 1944.
If we thought last years UNGA was going to be hard for Russia to attend, 2023 is going to be even harder. One thing is certain, unlike 1950, Russia won’t abandon the UNSC. If Team Biden tries to oust Russia’s delegation, IMO that will cause the UN to relocate.

you clearly don’t have a clue about Belgium. First, there are officially three languages: Flemish, French and German. Second, there is absolutely no willing coonection with “the Netherlands”, which is a wholly different country with a very different mindset.
Third, there are some political parties that try to pull Flemish and French speaking populations apart but they never succeed because most Belgians prefer drinking beer in a bar above fighting (even if there are some hot heads like everywhere). And if you really care to understand Belgium, read its comics: above all, Guust Flater, in which the army is made suitably ridiculous, or Asterix and Obelix, in which Belgians are invincible (ah, for that magic potion…).

Chill! Russia’s got this.
About 14000 had people already been killed by the neo nazis since 2014, and Putin has acknowledged his mistake in believing this could have been prevented by peaceful means and not acting earlier.
That Russia took and is still taking extraordinary steps in preventing wanton destruction is why the Global South is ignoring the Hegemon.
The Russians have a plan with an exit strategy (denazification & demilitarization) that exclude mission creep.

Posted by: Suresh | May 30 2023 21:15 utc | 138

Tom_Q: Exactly. Russia and China don’t have a mutual defense treaty and, quite frankly, don’t need one. If China “intervened”, then not, strictly speaking, on Russia’s behalf but rather on its own: say, by blockading Taiwan so that its only connection to the outside world would be through China. The net effect on US/NATO would be pretty much the same: a Mother of All Headaches.
I can’t imagine North Korea intervening unless directly threatened.

I have said this before but now that the Russians have basically freed its Russian people in east Ukraine, the slow and cautious approach will ease. Wait until Slavyansk and Kramatorsk are also freed. As I write this comment there are numerous explosions to the east of Zaporozhye, it is raining heavily but it ain’t thunder and nothing is striking the city. I still say this will be over by spring.

Wonder if those explosions are related.

You touch on a point that at times seems evident but dwells mostly in the background:
It appears that RF & PRC–specifically Putin & Xi–have a solemn commitment to bring about changes not seen in hundred(s) of years in such a way as to safely shepherd humanity through a passage of imminent nuclear holocaust.
RF has been quite specific about its SMO objectives–denazification, demilitarization, rebuilding of a broader global security architecture–but leaves the SMO’s chief constraint unstated: bring the West back to Earth while countering their urges to lapse into nuclear war.
One suspects that among their most trusted interlocutors in the Rest of the World, RF has made this commitment understood and appreciated.

That is quite a change. Not said casually, he never says anything casually. We can expect exactly that is going to happen.
I am going to go back to my own #64. Thank you Chevrus & james. Even when I bring it up in places like this I have never met anyone who knows who John S. McCain III was. In less than an hour of his shootdown the Vietnamese knew precisely who they had. They already knew who John S. McCain Jr. was and they knew John S. McCain Sr. And they knew the grandson was an idiot.
We are living in idiocracy. McCain is a hero. Such a hero he did yeoman work to bring us the present war. The only job near power an intelligent person can get is making the boss look good. Except that really is a job for the second rate. Thinking back on the really brilliant people I have known who showed great promise – they became hardware store clerk, thrift shop owner, Department of Agriculture flunky, and way the hell too many suicides.
There is not a soul in the halls of power who has one damn clue what they have walked into. At the next level up from the visible government, the Rothschild/Rockefeller level, listen to old Henry Kissinger. He has been a pure Rockefeller lackey since at least 1945, possibly earlier. His pronouncements on Ukraine are moronic. They don’t have anyone more capable to send to sit in front of the microphone. They don’t have anyone smarter to advise the pricipals. Henry is it.
TPTB is not worried. They feel happy and secure. Everything is fine.

Attacking a nation state, its people or its infrastructure with intent to continue/discontinue conduct of either side is a waste of time because neither the people governed or the governor-official have the authority to make such a decision.
The war hawks are energized by private global corporations and the oligarchs that own these global corporate giants. The global corporations are the only entities with the power to demand nation state leaders must achieve, or deny, a certain outcome of conflict. The Global Corporations command, by device of reward, grieve starved proxies: the greedy government officials respond to rewards in Pavlovian fashion. The global corporation commandeer the resources(labor, structure, mineral and technology) available to the government and force greed starved officials to act or to refrain from acting as the corporation demands.
War will not end until the corporations agree their proxies have had enough.

Someone here was writing about writing. I’ve recently dug up some pre-2020 scriblings of my own, and it makes for tough sledding. If you’re not oblivious, if your own priorities and realities adjust in response to rapid external change, you might wind up with revolutionary internal change. You might wind up practically embarrassed by the stuff you used to write, back when you didn’t know any better.
So I’m getting more accustomed to holding back, holding my tongue and listening while I piece together the jigsaw puzzle of current world history. In this thread about drone strikes in Moscow, as in many previous MoA threads, we find the sentiment expressed that “things are coming to a head” — it keeps feeling that way.

Ukraine must be down well below 20 million people by now, according to various analysts like BMA and Simplicius. This considers the fact of refugees over the long period since 2014, accelerated in 2022, the de-facto and de-jure lost territories, and the casualties.
BMA and some others have only recently calculated that Ukraine has 200-250k combat ready soldiers left of which 70k may be Nato trained. Is it a lot? Yes it is a lot.
But just in February, they were bragging about the counter-offensive with 100k troops, in a month or two it well to 60k, then 30-40k. So everyone can see the issue they have with replacement/loss ratio. Unless they get some sort of massive injection from Nato (which is unable to provide manpower in meaningful quantity), things start breaking down.

Shelling in the Belgorod region.
Clearly, this needs to be addressed. The situation should be handled by law enforcement, paramilitary units and local territorial forces. Artillery normally has a radius of around 45 km. Drones and SU 25s can create a no-go corridor 50km wide of the border.
The aim is to disperse the SMO forces and cheap (except for human lives, PR stunts). But Russia has other resources, including conscripts to use for this ATO.

Thanks for your reply. It’s not that it’s “lame”; rather, it clogs the thread just like troll smegma, and we have far too much of that. Dr, Hudson recetly told me he always looks for my postings here, but he never replies either, nor do I expect him to. More often than not, my commentary is informational and not to initiate discourse, while some are both: Lavrov’s presser @132 being an example. And to buttress Lavrov we have Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov floating the idea of annexing Kharkov to eliminate or at least greatly reduce attacks from Ukraine on his region. RT reports:
“According to Gladkov, on Sunday alone Ukrainian forces fired more than 300 projectiles at several districts in Belgorod Region. Moreover, Gennady Bondarev, the head of Grayvoron district, claimed that Ukrainian military operations had resulted in almost 400 local households being damaged between May 22 and 27.”
It seems like a long time ago when I posted the news from various meetings with Putin that a new political objective was formulated adding to those already ongoing within the SMO–move Ukie attackers far enough back from Russian territory so they no longer cause any harm. Admittedly, that was more in relation to Donbass than to a longstanding Russian Region, but here we are almost to June and these attacks are escalating. IMO, it appears that NATO has advised terror tactics to alter the political equation since the Ukie military is incapable of doing that. Add Lavrov’s presser answer to the mix and that political imperative voiced long ago rises again in a more animated fashion. Killing Ukie Bureaucratic Terrorists doesn’t do the job when the orders have already been issued.
While Putin’s words were reassuring for many, there are others who want to see action taken to stop these attacks. I don’t think a Russian offensive by Kherson will do anything to relieve Belgorod Region as the deployed terrorists have their own resources separate from the Ukie Army. What this does signal is what Russia will increasingly face as the SMO winds down due to the reduction of the Ukie Army.

Solution is very simple. Target NATO inside Ukraine, wherever they are detected. Totally deniable. I believe this is what Russia has started doing since it’s obvious it’s a NATO war against Russia, as Ukraine is finished back in 2022. Even Borell openly stated this fact.

Seeing as we’re not trying to spread some abstruse political philosophy or ideology but simply protect Russian Ukrainians from attack and Kiev Ukrainians from suicide our point of view is very simple and very believable.
And would penetrate to the core of many, many ‘ordinary’ people in the West. Including that shambles: the USA.
And then they could stop the war overnight.
So I think we all should ask ourselves: are we doing all we can to spread the truthful word out there to those people?
Or do we just frequent venues like this and keep it all inhouse?

Russia announced they attacked the Intelligence Directorate in Kiev today. I ask why it took over a year and a half to do so. How many other important military targets in Ukraine remain untouched. The entire western world is actively working on their destruction and take every Russian aversion to escalation as confirmation that they are free to do whatever they want. If I was Russian I would be seriously pissed watching it’s people civilian and military dying knowing my government wasn’t doing everything possible to end this conflict.

You really don’t get it at all.
Russia is in the process of demilitarising and denazifying its province in Ukraine. It is doing so within its legal framework. Not some western rules based order. Killing combatants in war is legal in this world.
Exterminating civilians for their political and military beliefs is not lawful. Russia is clearly a stickler for following the law. It seems to do everything possible to be tolerant but not permissive.
So, in the eastern districts a war has been raging since 2014 and after seven years of fruitless and sabotaged effort, accompanied by persistent western arms supply and professional training, Russia has finally established a formal war scenario and now proceeding with the elimination of combatants of the nazi ideology and their support military brigades plus mercenaries from across the world.
This is not ethnic cleansing or extra-judicial assassination or civil homicide as we consider the law to be. Not talking about ‘rules order’ here.
The eradication of the vanguard forces of the nazi regime continues in the east as does the vigorous destruction of its supplies. NATO has been stupid enough to offer the depletion of its storehouses of ancient armaments as well. Gradually Russia has increased its destruction of the NATO officers who are so self deluded as to be in Ukraine ‘doing the right thing’ teaching these nazis and their affiliated armies how to better kill Russians.
Gradually the westies have increased the weapons types and capacities as the older systems expire on the battlefield. No doubt the same applies to the training personell they provide. So Russia increases the targets to include thee contemporary skilled trainers AND their weapons.
It is a gradual elimination of the force of evil that started this war. The Russian nation will end this war and, hopefully the alliances and ideology that is its cause yet again.
Russia has set out a detailed treaty proposal in 2021 to USA and NATO that will bring mutual assured security in Europe. That treaty will end this war. Remain calm.

MOAB’s to finish it.
Or
Grind away for another 5 years allowing thousands of Russian soilders and civilians to be killed by the Nazi’s. Allowing the neoliberal globalists to ramp things up in the Middle East, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, Serbia, South America, the Baltic states and Africa. Regime change after regime change and NATO expanding in the China Sea. Given plenty time To ramp up arms production and strengthen and expand the EU further.
Or
Stupidly wait and think Trump is going to save Russia.
Either way Russia will have to use the MOAB’s sooner or later. In 5 years or 25 years. Now is probably the time to do it all things considered. The globalists are never going to back off they are just going to re group. Apply pressure on all fronts.
They are not nuclear so why make them if you are not going to use them ? They could finish this thing. Or maybe those folks who love the grind and Russian civilians and soldiers getting killed every week by Nazi terrorism could explain why MOAB’s shouldn’t be used?
I’d like to hear it. Why not drop 3 of them in the “siribranka” forest – job done !
Why grind in the forest filled with mines. Rather than Watch the Nazi run all the way back to Livov with their hands in the air?

Over a year in and people still don’t get it. Putin is not trying to defeat the US empire by becoming like the US empire. He probably wasn’t even trying to defeat it originally but just get it to take a few steps back.
The Ukrainians and their sponsors will have to escalate much further than they have to get the sort of response from Putin some here advocate. However, each escalation increases Russian appetite for more drastic measures and shows the RoW the difference between Russia and the U.S. It’s not an easy “game” to play but it is playing for the long term. It’s not even a strategy guaranteed to win, but it’s the only one that can win without losing in the end.
It’s also probably the best strategy to avoid a nuclear exchange. So we’ve got that going for us. At the end of the day, stopping the leaders in the west isn’t really Putin’s job. It’s the job of us westerners.

thanks for your perspective oldhippie.. i share in a lot of it, but am still idealistically thinking the west will eventually stop the madness.. usa in veitnam is different then usa-uk – nato in ukraine, but i think the same stupidity shows regardless…

i share your viewpoint on all this lex, but the wests actions are not encouraging at this moment.. in fact the action of the west here is very discouraging… but there is positives and the russian leadership and people appear to be one of the strengths here..

Why not drop 3 MOAB’s in the “siribranka” forest. Which are NOT nuclear weapons rather than grind in a minefield for a huge tactical advantage ?
Please don’t tell me you think dropping 3 MOAB’s in the “siribranka” forest is too American ?
All things considered ?

155. Even if it is true, one likely explanation is to raise costs for the Russians.
The NATO dipshits planning this war and all its attendant fuckery have funny money to burn, at least for now. The cost of those jets flying circles on the cusp of Russian airspace is easily borne by the suffering populations of the West as so much more debt.
Meanwhile whether a feint or not, the Russians are forced to respond as though WhirlXs fantasy or a variant thereof are potentially in the works, meaning additional cost and consideration in stationing countervailing systems or other solutions.
180. Well said. Sadly we have a distracted disunited and disinterested body politic that is perhaps the most propagandized to in history, completely unaware of their position in reality. It’s a long hill to climb.

Posted by: Doctor Eleven | May 31 2023 0:18 utc | 181

There is a context for Putin that I don’t see anyone discussing. The West offers simple minded nonsense that he is a “dictator” or a “thug”. As with much else, this grossly distorts the reality of what Russia is currently.
Do ‘dictators’ commonly surround themselves with people of great ability? Aren’t they usually just faceless lackeys? Who are ‘safe’? Isn’t this how Sadaam was? Or Kim Jung On?
I see a ruthless nationalist who appoints people of great ability, easily superior to similar appointees in the EU or US. Flipping it the other way, it seems that anyone of real character in the West dooms themselves to never making it to the top tier (Tulsi Gabbard or probably RFK Jr.)
So, Lavrov vs Blinken. Patrushev vs Sullivan. Shoigu vs Austin. Or that EU gynecologist. Good Grief.

Annaleana Baerbock is truly the most ridiculous caricature of a foreign minister I can imagine. A enviro friendly warmonger with fascist leanings whose public pronunciations closest approximation are the rants of regime bloviators in the Third Reich. (As an aside may I recommend the excellent Decline and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer, not quite up to Gibbons masterpiece certainly but an detailed and comprehensive work)
Compared to Lavrov who is truly an imprsssive character with diplomatic talents rarely if ever seen in the current era, it is a unequal contest to the point of absurdity.
Concurring with others, the West really has no leaders of stature, does it. They all are flunkies, toadies, or insipid scumbags. Rotten the whole way through.
History is not going to rain glory on these murderous clowns. I worry the clowns will choose to end history instead. Take care people.

Moldova
Recalling her pro-Russian, post-election dragnet of Shor Party members mid-May, Maia Sandu is desperate for EU defense funds. Last week, RT quoted an interview in which she admitted having to abandon unification with Romania to by-pass the application process.

The idea of Moldova acceding to its EU neighbor, Romania, does not have enough popular support, President Maia Sandu said in an interview with Geopolitique news portal this week. Some in the post-Soviet state even find the notion frightening, the president, who also holds a Romanian passport, added. “There is support for reunification with Romania, but not enough,” she told the news portal. Moldovans are in favor of joining the EU, but as a separate nation, she said.
“There are also people who fear reunification, there is indeed a discussion that’s been there for a long time, but again, there is not enough support for this to happen,” the president stated. Instead, Sandu said, Moldova seeks to join the EU and begin negotiations regarding the move as soon as possible. […] More than half of Romanians also oppose the idea of sending troops to Moldova in case of a conflict with Russia, while 35% of respondents oppose providing the country with military equipment in these circumstances.

von der Leyen and Borrell arranged an urgent “European Political Community” meeting in Moldova to placate Sandu and deliver orders to their appointed technocrat, Dorin Recean

Borrell will officially inaugurate the new European Union Partnership Mission in Moldova together with Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Popescu, and Minister of Interior, Ana Revenco. HR/VP Borrell will then, in the presence of the Moldovan Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi, officially handover the newly delivered equipment to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova funded under the European Peace Facility.

Chisinau
Last week, RT reported that Armenia had ceded Nagorno Karabakh to Azerbaijan during the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Council, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The fact that Armenia has “officially recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan” is a major opportunity to reach a peace agreement, he added. […] Pashinyan signaled that Armenia was willing to cede Karabakh ahead of the Moscow meeting, but said he would seek international guarantees for the remaining ethnic Armenians there. He also said Yerevean might consider leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), suggesting that the Russian-led military bloc had failed to protect Armenia.

This weekend, Ilham Aliyev told local media that the sides were ready to finalize their agreement “Now that Armenia has recognized our territorial integrity, any serious obstacles to the peace treaty have de-facto vanished”. Reuters repeated this, citing a date proposed by Baku’s envoy to France, Leyla Abdoullayeva, during the summit of the “European Political Community” summit in Moldova (Sandu’s Big Close Up). Naturally, Armenia denied any such appointment: “The agenda for Armenia’s delegation at the summit in Chisinau “does not involve signing the … agreement.”
Not to be out-done by PUTIN, today Borrell’s bozos added a line item to the Council’s “European Neighbourhood Policy” agenda. That’s it. Easier said than finessing another NATO assault on Serbs in Kosovo.

The French had 300 of these advanced aircraft when Germany attacked in 1940. The US planes knocked down 200 Luftwaffe aircraft. Didn’t win them the battle of France did it? The F16 issue reminds me of France having plentiful US weaponry and vehicles but still getting beaten.

[Putin’s reply to Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, in the Zotov Center]
Thanks for posting Putin’s answer. Thank you even more if you did the translating yourself. Yes, Kiev’s drone strike certainly deserves a response from Moscow; the large hit on what Putin calls “the Ukrainian military intelligence headquarters” was a good beginning.
I suppose many people wonder what Moscow can do next if Kiev tries more provocations. I suggest that Russia hit Ukraine where it really hurts: the major facilities of the oligarchs.

Posted by: Cyril | May 31 2023 1:21 utc | 194

It appears Russia’s current drone and missile offensive has been ongoing for several days and much is going unreported by Russia’s MoD when we read Simplicius’s latest account. But beyond his tallying is one distinct message in that report: NATO weapon systems of all types suck and those of the Outlaw US Empire suck the worst and are the most costly–the level of fraud is astronomical. And the same crap junk continues to pour from the USMIC. Catch-22 is more correct than its author could ever have imagined.
As I wrote, Russia has a very long list of targets, so it can continue its drone and missile offensive until it decides to stop. At that point, will Russia launch its own ground offensive? Will Belgorod’s governor get his wish and see Kharkov and much more liberated and returned to Greater Russia whence it came? IMO, such an operation will have significant political support. Might it become part of a much larger envelopment? Only Russia’s General Staff knows.

But I have only counted 17 reported Storm Shadow kills over the last month. I do not know where Shoigu’s 29 is coming from.

There were a couple of days when the RF MoD lumped Storm Shadow losses in with HIMARS and Urugan losses.
For example on 21 May 2023,

Air defence forces have intercepted fifteen HIMARS, Uragan MLRS projectiles, and Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles during the day.

Might explain the difference.

Thanks for your reply. Given what is now known about the extent of Russia’s ongoing drone and missile offensive from this extensive report, Ukie attacks would be mere pin-pricks IF they targeted military facilities, but they don’t and are celebrated for that fact as Lavrov has reported. It’s now the time-of-day that Russia launches, so we’ll see what the later reports provide.

THE FUTURE OF THE SMO – INSTALLMENT 5
Ukraine can join NATO even if territorially divided (media reports)
SOURCE:
https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/sitrep-52923-kiev-rocked-as-new-satellite
I have not seen any such media reports. But a review of events otherwise incomprehensible results in a cohesive realist interpretation:
1) Z in his recent visits to foreign capitals sought to convince NATO nations to help him in obtaining “freedom” via the provision of NATO assistance to 404 in the present conflict.
2) This delivery of NATO “assistance” would coincide with, or occur shortly after, the launch of the rumoured “Great Offensive.”
3) NATO nations would deliver immediate assistance in the form of deployed NATO air and naval assets engaged in the coming June NATO exercises. (see whirlX | May 30 2023 20:53 utc | 127, grunzt | May 30 2023 21:08 utc | 134 and Jo | May 30 2023 22:21 utc | 161 for collateral evidence/insight)
4) NATO assistance would coincide with the launch of drone swarms against Russian civilian targets. Only conventional weapons would be used.
5) NATO assistance would be accompanied by public presentations authored by NATO states declaring they are not attacking Russia but will confine their interaction to assisting 404 in removing foreign forces from Ukraine. This will include removing foreign forces from the Crimea which is recognized as sovereign Ukrainian territory.
6) The intent is to present a fait accompli combined with a massive demonstration of Western offensive power and the immediate declaration of a “Peace through Friendship Alliance” for the benefit of the oppressed freedom loving citizens of 404.
7) The date of the 404 offensive and the associated NATO demonstrations and commitments will be June 6th. This permits basking in the halo of the “Greatest Generation” and will underscore the essential need to make sacrifice to ensure the preservation of democratic freedoms.
8) All of the NATO actions have already been planned with specific tasks and responsibilities given to each NATO participant. This planning was documented in recent public reporting of NATO activity vis a vis Russia.
9) No citizen of any NATO nation, and no parliament, or other democratic body, will meet to discuss and vote on these developments. The assistance program will simply be launched along with jingoist advertisements showing the staunch commitments of Trudeau, Biden, Sunak et al.
10) This NATO assistance will not constitute a declaration of war as it will consist solely of defensive military operations occurring on Ukrainian territory at the invitation and request of the Great National Hero Z. Z stitched this confabulation together during his international travels after the first 404 attack on the Kremlin. As Churchill once quipped “Nothing so concentrates the mind as the thought of one’s own demise.”
11) Of course if Russia acts against the deployed NATO forces this will result in the invocation of NATO Article 5 and a state of war.
