Ukraine SitRep: Leaked Briefings, Holding Roads, Split Training

Apparently some briefing documents about the war in Ukraine for the Joint Chief of Staff of the U.S. military were leaked on the internets. I have so far only seen five pages of those. The total number is supposed to be 53 or 56 pages. If anyone knows where I can find decent copies please let me know in the comments.

I was cautious after the first release was discussed in major U.S. media. The first batch was used to demonstrate that the U.S. is allegedly successfully spying on Russia. I therefore thought that the whole release might be a disinformation campaign. However a second round of files discussed in the media over the last days paints a different picture.

Yves Smith of Naked Capitalism has decent roundup about them:

Again, recall the New York Times was the first MSM outlet to discuss that what turned out to be the first of (so far) two groups of Pentagon slides, focused on Ukraine preparedness, had made their way to a Russian Telegram account. Some had argued that the first set was a US or Russian psyop, but the authenticity of jargon and the amount of unflattering information argued against it. The second batch extends beyond Ukraine and is perceived to be damaging to US interests.

Mind you, as many war-watchers have pointed out, these revelations don’t appear likely to have much impact on the too-widely-anticipated Ukraine offensive. While the level of detail is tantalizing, the broad findings, like Ukraine’s air defenses have been depleted and are only going to get worse, were evident via open sources. Yet some of the claims are bizarre, like 97% of Russia’s forces being committed to Ukraine. Recall UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that in February, and appeared to be retailing Ukraine propaganda then. Did Wallace get that factoid from these documents?

Nevertheless, this breach will make the US clamp down on distribution of sensitive information, which won’t be helpful so close to the launch of the expected counter-offensive.

At least one slide in this second group bore the label “Secret/NoForn,” which means distribution is limited to US citizens. That would seem to rule out our notion, based on the first batch (widely distributed among US allies, including Ukraine) that a Ukrainian unhappy with how the war is being conducted could have been behind the leak. This marking suggests these documents came from a Pentagon source, which could include contractors.

The page below shows the timetable for training and equipping nine new brigades.

(Other pages I plugged from twitter are here, here, here and here.)

Those brigades will have too few state of the art tanks and too few artillery to be really effective. There is also a shortage of 122mm ammunition for the artillery howitzers.

If or when that Ukrainian counterattack comes it will hardly be the punch that some seem to expect. Ukraine had also put other units into reserve to prepare for that attack. But some of those have already been used. In a piece about Bakhmut the New York Times writes:

But in farm fields and villages on Bakhmut’s outskirts, Ukrainian military officials say Kyiv’s forces have fought the Russian Army essentially to a standstill in the battle for two key roads, the T504 highway and a route known as the 506.

Six weeks after the start of a Ukrainian operation to reinforce supply lines outside Bakhmut and protect the roads, Ukrainian military officials say they have thwarted, at least for now, a Russian effort to sever those roads and surround the city.

The T504 highway is also known as the M-32. Over the last days the Russian military has moved from the south in Bakhmut to now physically block it. The T-506 (O0506 on the map below) is still open but under constant artillery fire.

A recently published drone video shows that it is hard to pass:

MilitaryLand.net @Militarylandnet – 8:34 UTC · Apr 8, 2023

📷Destroyed/damaged Ukrainian vehicles, including HMMWVs, BTR-4, M113 and T-72 tank on the road connecting #Bakhmut and Chasiv Yar via Khromove settlement. #UkraineRussiaWar

I count 16 destroyed vehicles in that video on a 200 meter long stretch of the road.

But Ukraine has used reserves to keep it somewhat open:

In late February, Ukraine was close to losing the battle for Bakhmut, according to an assessment in a batch of what appear to be classified operational briefs prepared by the Pentagon and Joint Staff and leaked on social media this month. […]

At the time, two Russian flanking maneuvers to the northwest and southwest of the city were close to encircling Bakhmut. A single access road, the 506, remained open for Ukrainian forces and the few civilians still in the city, but it was under Russian artillery fire. Ukraine’s commanding general in the east, Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, called the route the “last breathing tube.”

Ukrainian commanders decided to reinforce the defenses of the roads rather than retreat, according to the leaked documents. Ukraine’s army deployed many soldiers to the fight for Bakhmut that it had hoped to hold in reserve for a counteroffensive anticipated in the coming weeks or months, and its forces have sustained heavy casualties.

The meat grinder that Bakhmut has become continues to do its work.

That is why the Ukrainian army is drafting more and more men:

The men in uniform could show up almost anywhere, any time.

They knock on civilians’ front doors and randomly stop them on street corners, handing out draft papers that can turn lives upside down.

Ukraine needs more soldiers — and fast. Kyiv is preparing for an imminent assault on Russian occupying forces, and while Ukraine does not disclose its casualty counts, commanders in the field have described large losses.

Previously, officials could only deliver draft papers to people’s homes, and some avoided the notices by staying at different addresses than where they are officially registered. But new rules have widened the scope of places where men can be stopped and questioned about their draft status.

Oleksii Kruchukov, 46, a washing machine repairman waiting in line outside a recruitment office in Kyiv, said he was ordered to report there after police broke up a fight he got into on the street. He did not have any valid military exemptions and said he expected that the incident will result in him soon being sent to training, and then the front.

Oleksandr Kostiuk, 52, a road repairman who helped set up barriers against Russian forces around Kyiv last year, recently received his notice via his human resources department at work. He is willing to go to the front if he has to — but fears for his safety. “Now we understand what’s going on, so I’m more nervous,” he said.

Poor guys. The will get abused to hold onto land that will be lost anyway.

This though is concerning:

Since early February, more than 5,000 people have applied to join what was formerly known as the Azov Battalion, a controversial former right-wing militia that was incorporated into Ukraine’s national guard. Last year, the battle-hardened group was hailed as heroic for withstanding a months-long siege of the southeastern city of Mariupol.

Then, in February, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry announced that Azov would be expanded into an assault brigade as part of the new Offensive Guard.

Under its rules, Azov only accepts those who sign up of their own accord — not draftees — and it reserves the right to reject people whom it does not believe will be a good fit, which it says allows it to select the most motivated soldiers. Azov has launched a massive recruitment campaign for its new status as a brigade, with many of its men who were captured in Mariupol last year and eventually released now training recruits.

Does selecting its own recruits change a 'controversial rightwing militia' into a 'controversial former right-wing militia'? I have my doubts. Now guess who is training those Nazis:

Meanwhile, at a training camp in the Kyiv region, new Azov recruits lined up at a shooting range, learning to use C7A1 rifles. One of their trainers, a Russian-speaking former American Marine who joined Azov and goes by the call sign Frodo, said that “the majority of these guys a month ago were civilians.” One sat against a wall, studying a translated U.S. military handbook.

That they were motivated enough to sign up on their own means they act more like “warriors than soldiers,” Frodo said.

The training condenses the roughly three-month U.S. Marine Corps basic training into just four weeks, he said. During that time, the troops learn everything from marksmanship and cartography to radios and engineering. It’s possible — likely even — they could then be deployed almost immediately to the country’s hottest front lines.

The basic training the usual draftees get seems not to be of the same effectiveness:

On a recent afternoon outside Lyman in eastern Ukraine, a seasoned enlisted leader vented about the quality of initial training among newly arrived troops, describing it as largely glossing over fundamentals needed in the field that have to be taught when they get to their units.

“They’re taught to sing songs and march” in basic training, the leader said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with reporters.

Once deployed, the troops need instruction even on the most ancient practice of soldiering: how to dig, the leader said. They do not know how to hold their shovels or fortify trenches and fighting positions. For practice, a group of fresh troops dug their spades into a nearby trench line.

Normal Ukraine's men get send to the front without proper training and equipment. This while the ideologues receive their own special training and Canadian made Colt M16A3 equivalents . The long time consequences for Ukraine from this social split will be horrendous.

There seems to be little of such concerns in the leaked briefing slides. As Yves notes in her piece about the reporting about them:

[G]ood intel becomes less useful when filtered through prior beliefs. As we can see above, the US can’t get over its idea that Russia is out to acquire territory, and not first and foremost destroy Ukraine’s (and now NATO’s) ability to wage war. The articles contain denigrating asides about how Russia has conducted the war. One senses that this isn’t mere media messaging but is well internalized among US and NATO decision-makers. That sort of under-estimation has worked out very well for Russia. And the very solidly build echo chamber in the Beltway means it’s likely to continue.

Because 4chan threads archive./die.
That’s *part* of the *charm*. The ephemeral nature of the threads.
You’re either there on thread when “it’s happening”.
Or you’re not.
There is a way to find archived 4chan threads.
But I have never worked out how.

Big Serge is postulating.
It was uploaded to win an argument on 4chan.
There’s some possibility the guy got the docs from a discord discussion earlier.
And he may not have realised the dynamite he was posting.
But he posted to prove his point “with sauce”.

Thank you for the Escobar report at Strategic Culture. Unfortunately Pepe Escobar pollutes the south seas:

Once again: the most important consequence of the Pentagon leaks is to establish that the U.S., de facto and de jure, is at war against Russia – whatever may be the spin by that Norwegian piece of dead wood in Brussels. Russia will establish a war crimes tribunal for Ukraine, so sooner rather than later, selected collective West luminaries better take refuge in their New Zealand bunkers.

The concept of a safe bunker in New Zealand is laughable and not too many people in these delightful oceans would welcome such scum. They might even respond and assist said Tribunal in serving notices, gathering evidence, executing sentences etc. Western luminaries would stick out like hogs balls in the calm of New Zealand. I expect Kim Dotcom might enjoy the sport for distraction.
I respectfully suggest Alaska as a more secure destination as for most the accent will be close to the local parlance.

I cant see any other “targets” for an successful offensive – any ideas from you all here?

The Ukrainian Army could be better served in directing their offensive north or west to Kiev and Kharkov as that will give them an easier victory, reduced casualties and a durable peace. Then they could capitulate and get on with rebuilding Novorossiya.

An offensive without air superiority or advantage in artillery is not a good idea. This is alien to the way the whole west s wars have been fought and prepared for. The leak was deliberately let out to place blame and was authorised, to be denied of course, imv.

If these are real( and that seems to be the opinion of most), then I’m stunned by the lack of quality. Are we to believe that this is how low US “intelligence” has sunk? Misspellings, Confirmation bias, uncritical acceptance of nearly fictional sources (Ukraine), narrative maintenance.
Looking at the world and how the US interfaces with it, maybe, just maybe it really is that awful.

I see this as the financial machine that pumps the killing madness in Ukraine, plunders the resources of foreign nations, drives the war in Libya, Syria and Yemen and generally destroys all the ethical machinery of the people’s world.
Speaking of Yemen, could it be that the EXTRAORDINARY events of Shia / Sunni reconciliation in the Middle East is the very thing to be erased from the front page?
Almost every ally of the USA has walked toward a brand new future and the pathetic Trump/Biden abraham accords are in tatters while Israel is performing self immolation on the sidelines.

What appears in the New York Times is certain to be coming from Washington, to be believed or not it is meant to forward whatever the Washington “leaders” want to forward. If it is real, there is no way to know, so one is left to figure out how it furthers their so-called policy — to destroy Russia.
I do not read the NYT, so I am only commenting on the reactions at MOA.

I suspect this was just a case of creating a dumpster fire to distract from ns2 issue.
If the military were going to create a leak to mislead or distract they would know how to make it appear genuine. Likely it would mostly be actual documents with some misdirection mixed in.
If it revealed how Biden stole the election, I might be convinced.

In response to gpc@98,
Nah, 30k troops wouldn’t be enough for the scenario you describe. They would either have to cross the Dniepr in the West, or run head-on into Russian fortifications Zaporozhie-Mariopol — both directions are well defended. They’d take serious casualties before even pushing the front-line, and wear themselves out long before getting to the sea. All the while their flanks would be exposed to counterattack and eventually they would just get collapsed on and mopped up.
Paradoxically, they’d have a much easier time attacking Russia proper, around Bryansk or Kursk to the North. If this mythical offensive is supposed to be their last hurrah, they could use 30k headchoppers to go on a killing-spree in Russia with the hope that it would somehow hurt war support and the position of the Russian political establishment and force them to negotiate on Ukrainian terms.
Other juicy targets in their weight category would include Belarus & Transnistria, but there wouldn’t exactly be much benefit from either.
Most likely, if there is a Ukrainian offensive, it’ll be something much less spectacular than any of that and on the active front-line around DNR&LNR. Like pushing the Russians out of some recently gained village for a couple of days.

AI-created? That’s an interesting idea. I have no experience as yet with creating images or videos via AI, so I don’t know how good an AI-generated image of official documents would look. I suppose if you were very specific about the formatting, the content, the aging of the documents, etc., a good fake could be produced. But I think it would depend on the individual or group doing it and how much knowledge they had about the topic themselves. I’m not sure an AI would be on firm ground on the topic itself, based on my crappy Ukraine timeline exchange with ChatGPT that I mentioned here a while back. So an AI probably would need very careful coaching from a knowledgeable person to produce a really good fake.
Which, of course, still leaves it open that someone with official access also had access to an AI that could reproduce something he had seen or copied (and possibly modified.)
I’m with Big Serge on this point: Based on the figures in the documents, it appears that the Pentagon has zero comprehension of Ukraine force structure and deployment, despite all the alleged US ISR allegedly watching everything on the battlefield. As he says, “Good grief!”
I’ve long argued that the only people who have any clue whatsoever of the disposition of forces on the battlefield across Ukraine are: 1) the Russian General Staff, 2) the Ukrainians themselves (with caveats as to how real-time their updates of annihilated battalions are), and 3) the US Pentagon based on the National Reconnaissance Office intel.
Big Serge throws doubt on number 3). If the Pentagon is relying solely on Ukraine government supplied information, then they are clearly idiots.
None of this actually matters. As Big Serge and Simplicius and Brian Berletic have analyzed, the alleged Ukrainian forces are not nearly enough to achieve what it is alleged they want to achieve: the cutting of the land bridge to Crimea. They all cover their butts by suggesting not to underestimate Ukraine, but frankly I call bullshit. Ukraine has zero chance of achieving anything except more massive losses.
The Russian General staff and Russian military intelligence have probably hundreds, if not thousands, of analysts looking at satellite imagery, SIGINT reports, surveillance drone reports, reports from sabotage and forward observation units, and spies behind the lines. They know what the hell is going on a lot more than Russell Bentley or Graham Patrick visiting some LDR or Wagner company commander and asking him what’s going on. Let alone listening to Prigozhin who talks about 200,000 Ukrainians in one breath, then ups it to 400,000 in the next breath. A doubling of forces is a pretty big range which means no one the fuck knows. Especially Prigozhin who knows nothing about what’s going on outside of what his PMC can tell him and what intel they’re getting from the General Staff which is probably only what the GS want them to have in pursuit of specific objectives.
This whole “they moved into this street in Bakhmut” stuff is total bullshit. Email me when the previously determined city limits of Bakhmut are under Russian control. Until then – and not even then – I just don’t give a shit. It’s not important. The only thing that is important in this war is who kills the most enemies of their side. The Russians are winning that game and they will continue to do so.
Everything else short of direct NATO intervention is just a sideshow. The leaked documents are irrelevant except for what they show as the incompetence and incapability of both Ukraine and the US Pentagon.

Are we to believe that this is how low US “intelligence” has sunk?
Misspellings, Confirmation bias, uncritical acceptance of nearly fictional sources (Ukraine), narrative maintenance.

Yep.
———-
IMVVHO, that’s why there’s been such a cacophony of noise about these 4chan4pages (the 100-page leak b is seeking is a different zoo animal)
The original uploaded pages illustrated *exactly* what is being circulated internally.
It’s embarrassing. Because it’s so wrong.
IMO there’s two (at least) intel “tribes” doing battle internally in the US.
The intel “alphabet soup” also has “ingredients” from Britain, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, and others.
It’s a mess. That’s why Stoltenberg and Urr-she’s-lyin are constantly harping about “unity” and “solidarity”: because there is none.
The 4-pages shone a light for the lower rung (probably on-ground in Poland and Ukraine) internal guys and allowed them to see what is “making it through” and being circulated at the upper levels.
The intel is being managed, massaged, controlled, corralled as it makes it’s way from the backstreets of Bakhmut to Bankova, Belgium, Britain, wherever, and ultimately DC.
The panic is not about us, the great unwashed seeing 4pages, the panic is that the “opposition” intel within the Ukraine information war will see what’s being circulated.
The 4pages show why the Ukraine war is being fought in such a schizophrenic “style” by USNATO.
“Decisions” really are being made based on atrociously erroneous “intel”.
Who have been front runners in proving “intel” from before January 22?
Victoria Nuland, her relatives at the Institute for the Study of War, Michael Kofman, Rob Lee, and all echoed by cheerleader Michael McFail from his post at Stanford U.
Real on-ground intel is making it way up, until it hits a level controlled by this^ cohort, and then it’s turned into the slop that makes its way to decision nodes, where the outcome is, predictably “MORE WAR! Ukraine is wiNnINg; Congress, allocate another $10b….
IMVHO it also explains Zelensky’s “craziness”.
He’s getting homegrown, unadulterated Ukraine intel… then he’s getting one lot of US (State Department?) intel, and British intel, and another lot of US (Pentagon?) intel… they are contradicting each other, squabbling, threatening him, cajoling him, Cocaining him… I have no sympathy for him, but I think I can see how he’s being torn apart with each faction pulling him in different directions.
My point: The panic about the 4pages, is not that *we’ve* seen it, or that the “Russians” saw it (they laughed, I’m sure)… the panic is that this will explode intel internally..

Been wondering that myself just a half hour ago in thinking about this whole thing. It’s an example of what we don’t know.
What gripes my butt is that people keep talking like they know. But they don’t. We have places like MilitaryLand posting maps with force dispositions. Really? So why don’t we know where those 370,000 Russian reservists are? Putin said months ago that 140,000 were already in Ukraine. Where the hell are they? As for those force dispositions, how many are at full strength? As Big Serge points out in his piece, it looks like what Ukraine and the leaked documents are calling “nine brigades” are actually something around four or less in terms of real combat capability.
I reiterate that the only people who know what is going on in the detail needed to actually discuss what might happen in the near future in terms of “offensives” (as Martyanov likes to say, these localized attacks Ukraine does are not technically “offensives”) is the Russian General Staff. Apparently the Pentagon doesn’t know if the documents are to be believed. Ukraine maybe knows, but their ability to reason and plan is compromised anyway or they would have surrendered by now!
That anyone takes seriously the notion that Ukraine can keep this up for another year – even Simplicius assumes it will take Russia until the end of this year to take the Seversk-Kramatorsk defensive line and then the war drags on for another four or five years – is ludicrous. Ukraine is on its last legs, that is wildly apparent even to those of us who don’t actually know anything. Meanwhile Russia gets stronger by the day, the week and the month.
As I continually remind people, anyone who looked at the pre-war military balance between Russia and Ukraine could see it was physically impossible for Ukraine to win – with or without NATO weapons transfers. The past year has proven that no matter how many conscripts Ukraine scrapes together the end is never in doubt.
And as many analysts have pointed out, armies resist until they can’t – and then it’s over. So people who think this war will drag out for another year or two or four are delusional. WITH WHAT? As Berletic has shown, the US and NATO are out of everything. They can’t produce more stuff to send to Ukraine in less than another year, two or three. The Ukrainian military is going to fold and collapse this year, perhaps by end of summer if not sooner.
Then comes Russia with half a million men, 2,000 tanks, 1,000 artillery pieces, and its full air power. Once the Ukraine army folds, this Russian forces is not going to take another two years to get to Kiev. It’s delusional to think otherwise.

Sushi @86–
It has long been apparent that the Kiev regime has no real plan, no firm path to victory, and only a tenuous and unfriendly relationship with reality.
True, except for one small problem–Kiev was never in charge; it’s been a marionette regime since 2014. The authors of the debacle reside in the Outlaw US Empire and its vassal dominions. There was a plan, not well defined or well thought out, that emerged from the USSR’s collapse, the UNSC sanctioned attack on Iraq, and GHW Bush’s proclamation of a New World Order on 11 September 1990. Soon after came the Wolfowitz Doctrine that was the precursor for the Full Spectrum Domination Policy Declaration in 1996, that was reiterated in 1999. I haven’t closely examined the question, but it appears the USSR’s downfall removed a major impetus to the seeking of Empire as the Anti-Communist Crusade almost completely vanished as China wasn’t seen as the rival/threat the USSR was deemed, and that created a split within the Deep State as the Neoliberal Financial Parasites had their own ideas about how to conquer the world via debt while the Neocons retained their militarism. The key here is the removal of the threat of a Total Industrial War with the USSR, and thus thinking, planning, procurement for such an undertaking was shelved, deindustrialization vastly escalated as the Neoliberal’s feasted, and we see the mediocrities (weapon systems) that were produced instead. Plus, training and associated doctrine were vastly altered as all that seemed to be required was force projection to make the weak nations (which were the vast majority) obey the emerging rules-based system. But Yeltsin in one last sober act of Russian patriotism paved the way for Putin and the Russian Phoenix, and one of Putin’s first acts was to make common cause with China.
Putin’s emergence created a fatal Seldon Crisis for the Outlaw US Empire very similar to that caused by the Mule. But in this case, the die was cast for two reasons I recently wrote about: The Neoliberals created their own trap by removing the rules regulating their activity, while the Neocons decided to serve Occupied Palestine’s interests instead of conquering all the oil lands in West Asia. Those two mistakes combined with Putin’s rise and the fact that Soviet science and engineering skills hadn’t died with the USSR’s demise are what combined to wreck the plans laid for using Ukraine as an Anti-Russia, which was devised during Clinton’s second term.
I’ll continue this essay at my VK as the above is just a sketch dealing with the current question about the “leaked top secret plans.”

The Discord user who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity says he was on a call with others — including the person who for months had been posting documents he or she said were classified — when the Times story broke.
“We all just kind of lost it,” the Discord user said. “We couldn’t believe what was happening.”
The person said his primary motivation for speaking to the media was to clear the reputation of a third person, who uses the screenname “Lucca.” Posts from Lucca featuring many of the documents were widely shared on Twitter and other social media. Those documents were reported on by The New York Times, The Washington Post and other media outlets.
Lucca “is just a kid,” said the poster who spoke to the AP. “He was just consistently posting it to mess with people.”
The poster declined to identify the person who originally uploaded the documents to Thug Shaker Central or confirm whether that person worked for the U.S. government. He referred to the original uploader with a nickname, “the O.G.”
But the poster said the person who first posted the documents did not appear to be driven by ideology or to expose government secrets broadly, but rather to impress people in their group.
Were that person to be arrested, the poster said he had copies of “way past hundreds” of pages of files.
He wanted to protect fellow posters in the now-defunct chat but also believed the documents contained secrets that Americans should know.
“On the off chance that the O.G. gets arrested, I’m leaking them all,” the poster said.

Weird stuff, sounding like right out of some “young adult” novel… According to the WP’s reporting, this Lucca kid supposedly has been identified & he seems to be residing in southern california. Presumably he hasn’t got a very good time right now… If all of this isn’t one big Bellingcrap disinfo dump, that is…

Russia’s new guided bombs pose increasingly serious threat to Ukraine

Still unable to achieve air supremacy, Russia is nevertheless finding ways to threaten Ukraine from the sky.
Early this year, Russia introduced guided bombs — essentially, the regular gravity bombs modified to be dropped by multirole fighter-bombers from safe distances and deal precise and very damaging strikes in front-line areas and beyond.
Along with the specifically designed sophisticated smart munitions, Russia has been using the modified version of simple 500-kilogram air bombs that it has in vast numbers.
It poses an especially serious threat to Ukraine. By turning simple bombs into guided ones, Russia is unfolding a tactical weapon that is much cheaper, more massive, and more effective than cruise and ballistic missiles, the stockpile of which is largely depleted now. And it can at least partially substitute the lack of air support for its troops on the ground in Ukraine.
The use of Russian guided bombs already has a perceptible effect along the front line, particularly on the Ukrainian defenses of Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast.
The Ukrainian Air Force calls this a dangerous situation. Russian guided bombs are launched from beyond the effective ranges of Ukrainian air defenses, and as of now, Ukraine has little to no instruments to counter them.
. . . . . .Nonetheless, even in the present situation with Russian FAB-500s with UMPK kits, the Ukrainian Air Force is beating alarms and calling for solutions.
According to the force’s spokesman Colonel Yuriy Hnat, even if large Russian gliding bombs are launched at the distance of between 20 and 30 kilometers, that’s still a grave danger to Ukrainian front defenses and the close rear.
The only realistic way to counter the threat is, in fact, combating Russian aircraft carrying gliding bombs.
Ukraine’s outdated Mikoyan MiG-29 and Sukhoi Su-27 lack modern longer range air-to-air missiles and sophisticated radars and can’t keep up with more advanced and numerous Russian fighters and its ground air defenses. . . .here

In 2016 Wikileaks announced the DNC leaks, but the DNC claimed that they had been hacked by the Russians and Guccifer2.0 released the Trump opposition report.
A real leak about shady DNC shenanigans became Russiagate, a huge story about Trump Russia collusion, a story that as it turns out, had no merit whatsoever.
I hope that this story doesn’t metastasize into into some draconian witch hunt.

Common knowledge by this point. I saw an image of a IIRC 1.5-TON bomb being converted to a glide bomb in a Russian factory recently.
Note: These are Ukrainian sources, so YMMV.

https://eurasiantimes.com/russia-stuns-ukraine-with-1-5-ton-heavy-duty-bombs-air-force/
Simplicius discussed this in his April 4 SitRep:

What’s most interesting about this, is that the famed Russian FighterBomber channel, which has direct official ties to the Russian Airforce, stated the following days ago:

Fighterbomber: There, the ministers of our industry and defense spoke about a multiple increase in the production of ammunition.
I don’t know how for all ammunition, but UMPCs (this is the new Russian JDAM-equivalent glide-bomb) alone, at existing capacities and component bases, can be produced in the hundreds … per day. On the day, Carl!
And, accordingly, they will fly into crests not in two or three dozen pieces a day, as is happening today, but also in hundreds.
Well, the news, which will please crests very much.
One and a half is ready. It is put in a series. Since the UMPC turned out to be different for it, it flies to completely different ranges, which everyone will undoubtedly appreciate.
Given the accuracy comparable to HIMARS, and the fact that Ukrainians have nothing to shoot them down, you can try to launch them over bridges. The dope in them is immeasurable.
And if it is still some kind of FAB-1500-2600TS, then it’s very good.
Coming soon…

In short, he states that even by current today’s manufacturing capacities, these UMPC (Unified Planning and Correction Module) bombs can be produced in the hundreds per day. Honestly, that means the bottleneck now is not the production of the bombs themselves, but the actual fighter craft and pilots that can launch them. Russia is averaging 150-250 sorties a day, but that’s including combat/non-combat, fixed/rotary wing, UAV/recon, etc. Actual combat/strike sorties may be a tiny fraction of that, so you would need to greatly up the amount of fixed wing craft and pilots to fully utilize the productive capacities of hundreds of new glide-bombs.

Arestovich repeated our information that we should expect early battles for Seversk.
In the event of the capture of Bakhmut, the Russians will go not to the west, to Chasov Yar, but to the north, in order to cut off the ledge in the Seversk region.
“If Bakhmut is taken, they will not go to Chasov Yar or Konstantinovka, they will cut off to Seversk, and now the strongest Russian grouping is not near Bakhmut, but in the Liman direction. They want to level the front, and the capture of Bakhmut frees up a huge number of troops who will immediately abandon to Seversk and, of course, this ledge will be cut off, because it is very difficult to defend there,” he said.

The children of Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadim Prystaiko, who declared his readiness to “fight to the last Ukrainian”, live in Belgium and the UK.
It turns out that the children of our political elite live and study in the EU, and after the war they will return to Ukraine with a good education to govern the country in the traditions of their parents.
While ordinary Ukrainians – Danilov, Gordon, Poroshenko – are dying, they have taken their children out of the country and are ready to fight to the last!

The situation with Seversk is dangerous, due to the geographical features of the landscape around the city. The main supply of the Armed Forces of Ukraine comes from Liman, and the river, which used to be a natural wall against the Russian army, may turn into an insurmountable obstacle in the future.
Arestovich voiced a natural problem for the General Staff in this sector of the front, which will become relevant after the fall of Bakhmut and the start of the assault operations of the Russian army.
Over the past month, the enemy has been slowly occupying strongholds in the north, slowly setting the stage for a capture of Seversk, which could repeat the fate of Severodonetsk, abandoned with minimal urban fighting due to supply difficulties.

The complete disinterest in actually understanding the enemy’s motivation is nothing new. The best description I have seen of this phenomena is in former CIA officer Ralph McGehee’s book Deadly Deceits, which goes into his exasperation, while working out of the CIA office in Thailand, with the complete lack of interest in studying North Vietnamese ideology and motivation, specifically from Mao’s little red book. Per him, it was like they didn’t WANT to understand what they were thinking.
Should be free here, it is worth a read. https://archive.org/details/11-deadly-deceits-my-25-years-in-ralph-w.-mc-gehee

There is another very interesting link in Pepe’s VK, it concerns the role Prigozhin and Wagner are playing in the internal struggle to clean Russia of its thirty year period of shame -I’m not sure if the Chinese refer to their own century of shame this way-. Bureaucracy, west leaning views and investments with the elite owning real estate in Europe or Florida and sending their offspring to study and of course absorve the western ways, that is what the internal clean up led by Prigozhing and the likes of Tatarsky -not that there are many like him, unfortunately-. Not everything is rosy back in Moscow, but in the end the result will be not only demilitarizing Ukraine and its sponsors but defanging the internal rot of an elite that milks the cow to spread their butter in London or the Cote d’Azur.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I saw the vid but haven’t watched. Pepe linked to the Dugin item I cited upthread, here, that opens the door to the conflict between Atlanticism and Eurasianism, which is Russia’s major longstanding ideological problem. Because of the War, Altanticists now verge on treason through no fault of their own as they too were backstabbed and now find themselves adrift; and being Russian, they aren’t welcome in the West they once admired. They can redeem themselves through deeds as we see from Medvedev–the primary reason for his angst is the betrayal, which is reflected in his very harsh rhetoric.

Your comprehension of what is unfolding, makes a lots of sense. The aim is to unleash utter havoc and push everyone to run in circles… Contradicting papers are part of the same bunch. Public could only had a glance at the tip of an iceberg and still keep on guessing onwards over it’s overall size, while it passes by. Someone could be still sitting quietly on the rest of the throve in anticipation of highest bidder. Some damage is done, while consequences are in the shadows. Last night some summarised point were published by WP and ZH
Locations of CIA recruitment efforts focused on human agents which have access to closed-door conversations of world leaders
Russia’s Wagner Group tried to obtain weapons from a NATO member: Turkey. Also, some of the internal future plans of Wagner are apparently known to US intelligence
Details of sensitive satellite technology used to track Russian forces, namely the “LAPIS time-series video” – described as an advanced satellite system, which up until now has been a closely guarded secret
Ukraine battlefield assessments prepared by the Pentagon
The Guardian: “One slide suggested that a small contingent of less than a hundred special operations personnel from NATO members France, America, Britain, and Latvia were already active in Ukraine.”
Descriptions of intelligence collection activities by the CIA, NSA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, law enforcement agencies and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO)
One Feb. 23 review of the battlefield situation in Ukraine’s Donbas forecasts a “grinding campaign of attrition” by Russia that “is likely heading toward a stalemate, thwarting Moscow’s goal to capture the entire region in 2023.”
WaPo: “The U.S. intelligence community has penetrated the Russian military and its commanders so deeply that it can warn Ukraine in advance of attacks and reliably assess the strengths and weaknesses of Russian forces.”
WaPo: “A single page in the leaked trove reveals that the U.S. intelligence community knew the Russian Ministry of Defense had transmitted plans to strike Ukrainian troop positions in two locations on a certain date in February and that Russian military planners were preparing strikes on a dozen energy facilities and an equal number of bridges in Ukraine.”
WaPo: A summary of analysis from the CIA’s World Intelligence Review, a daily publication for senior policymakers, says that Beijing is likely to view attacks by Ukraine deep inside Russian territory as “an opportunity to cast NATO as the aggressor,” and that China could increase its support to Russia if it felt the attacks were “significant.”
Ukraine’s robust Soviet-era air defenses — which have thus far minimized the participation of Russian aircraft – could run out of ammunition in next several weeks.
A purported CIA intelligence update — claims Israel’s Mossad supported protests against Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Supreme Court reform scheme.
One report says internal discussions show that South Korean officials are wary of requests to hand over artillery shells to the United States to replenish American stockpiles, out of concern they’d end up in Ukraine.
Another report says that Ukrainian Air Defense is in peril if it’s not reinforced by Western allies

Thanks your posts.
`re: Musk’s reply was reported by RT:
Musk’s 3rd paragraph ends “…but we will rapidly address any attempts at gaming the system.”
Whether Musk or his advisors created that line, merely his recognition of the descriptive “gaming the system” is a sure indicator that he is wise to exactly the modus operandi that , IMO, best describes the prime technology that is used to mis-dominate and mis-control human affairs.
“Gaming”, akin to mathematics, has no morality or ethical considerations to interfere with its application. I recall reading that [the physicist] Leo Szilard , after working with A. Einstein early 1920’s, spoke of asking Einstein to teach Statistical Mechanics to a few friends and arranged for himself, John vonNeuman, Dennis Gabor and Eugene Wigner to attend.
It bears mention that vonNeumann went on to create Game Theory, Gabor opened up halography, Wigner also became a Nonel Laureate, and Szilard invented the way [neutron chain reaction] to unglue the atom to release its staggering “nuclear binding energy” [as in Einstein’s E=MC^2].
I, a know-nothing, teen nobody. heard about Game Theory in 1950s and immediately sensed that it could be our doom. vonNeumann’s Game Theory admits no limits or restrictions that might prevent mis-application. It works.
Brilliant minds with time, energy, and lots of money can wreck humanity faster than humanity can progress. vonNeumann took some heat for that. I think he was simply observing life around him and codified it!
The intellect can be gamed, I think it has been from the gitgo, whenever/wherever/however that was. If that is so, we should support efforts by those who search to un-game the human victims, such as this MOA website, or at least find ways to “proof” beings against being trapped by mis-gamers. AKA the trappers.

I haven’t even looked at them closely yet, as everyone else seems to have already done that and published their analyses, so what am I likely to add to it?
As I said, they’re on my Google Drive for download by anyone with the link, posted above.
People are coming on here and making confident assertions that the leaks are this, that and the other thing. They’re all blowing smoke out of their ass – as usual here. No one knows and whoever does know is not telling.
And where the hell are the alleged “hundreds of documents”? Until someone shows me a download link at Pastebin, that’s all bullshit, too.
As an aside, I just couldn’t remember the Pastebin Web site name. Google search with various queries couldn’t find it. Frustrated, I logged on to ChatGPT and asked it. It told me the correct answer instantly. Chalk one up for ChatGPT over Google Search! It appears that no matter how you word a query to Google Search, there’s a good chance it’s algorithm won’t properly understand it. A LLM AI is much more likely to “get it.”

These morons are still flogging this dead horse. Even Gonzalo Lira is dumb enough to fall for this crap.

D’Souza says (at the 10:50 mark of his podcast) that the project was initiated based on information from a whistleblower in Georgia — never mentioned in the movie — who told the group they got paid by a nonprofit organization to deliver ballots to drop boxes, and that they were part of a larger group doing this.

In other words, this idiot D’Souza got played by some Trump conspiracy theorist (or some guy working for Trump) and initiated his bullshit study based on that alone.
The methodology used appears to be either taken from the Swiss who tracked those CIA kidnappers by their cell phones or as a ripoff of the technique used by the FBI to identify the January 6 rioters. Except, of course, it’s applied by morons who don’t comprehend its limits because of their cognitive bias that the election was stolen, and they’re just looking to prove it.

Well, judging by comments made by people more conversant with the leaks than me, the really big news is that the destruction of the energy network in Ukraine was designed to eliminate the Ukie air defence. And that shows as the Russian Air Force has begun to operate more freely in some parts of Ukraine.
And I still think this provides the planners an excuse – an off-ramp, if you will – to call off the spring offensive. Which does not mean this is not the debacle that it looks like. Providing more weapons to Ukraine seems a bridge too far at this point. So the search for a scape-goat is on. At the moment, the front runner is … Macron! At least Marco Rubio does not like him.
And in other news, did Saudi Arabia just announce that it wants to join the SCO?

Meanwhile, Charles Michel has a travel expense account for 2.6 millon Euro proposed for 2024. Private jets and all that. The reactions of common people are furious. On the other hand, these same people still are totally misguided on the war in Ukraine. What a strange world we live in, it’s as if no one can really control the whole narrative anymore. Such a mix of deception, anger and confusion. So, quo vadis humanity?

Not a surprise – Iran is set to join by end of the year. Since Saudi Arabia is making nice with Iran, and is aware of how the US is beginning to collapse, the Saudis are looking for new support from elsewhere, and BRICS and SCO are where it’s at. Add to that the rehabilitation of Syria’s Assad in the Arab world, and the US is pretty much being driven out of the Middle East in terms of influence.
I’m just wondering when certain parties will decide maybe they’d be better off if the Fifth Fleet wasn’t HQ’d there. And as Mercouris says, with all this movement, the stationing of US bases in Syria will gradually become untenable. Russia and Iran could do a lot to make it even more untenable, which is why Israel is upping its attacks on Syria.
But this is the Ukraine thread, so I’ll leave it at that.

According to our source, the shortage of ammunition during the offensive will be compensated by a huge number of infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The main task is not to delay the offensive, it must be swift. Otherwise, there is a risk not just of a breakdown, but of a mass retreat.

https://t.me/legitimniy/15126

New details have appeared from Ivano-Frankivsk, where relatives of soldiers who were sent to fight without anything to the front with the aim of genocide gathered near the military registration and enlistment office. The Ukrainian military from Ivano-Frankivsk do not want to pay the due payments, since there are few of them left (25 out of 300 people left for slaughter).
At the same time, the fighters claim that they do not want to go to certain death and intend to judge the survivors for this. It turns out that if they don’t go to war, they face a prison, in a war without weapons and combat training, and even death😱

How many of those hundreds of thousands of troops zelinsky supposedly has died months ago.
While not registered as killed in action, their wage still being drawn.
That adds to big money.
A big lie like that will enevatably come out, a spring offensive would expose it.
Bogus leaked documents saying Ukraine is ill prepared for an offensive would delay that big lie coming out, particularly to the western public. And soften the blow.
Reality and the truth are a dammed inconvenience some times.

Information Clearing House article “Leaked documents – NATO members active in Ukraine”:
“A trove of leaked documents detailing plans about Ukraine’s spring military offensive and circulating online reportedly imply that French soldiers are present on the battlefield in Ukraine. According to the Guardian, “one slide suggested that a small contingent of less than a hundred special operations personnel from NATO members France, America, Britain and Latvia were already active in Ukraine.”

WSWS writes:
• 97 NATO Special Operations troops are currently deployed inside Ukraine.
• A total of 100 US personnel are deployed inside Ukraine, including 71 US military personnel.
• The US military sees the training of the Ukrainian military, NATO deployments in Europe and US military deployments inside Ukraine as being interoperable, and reports all of them on a single page.
• The US has drawn up detailed maps for a planned offensive operation aimed at cutting off Crimea from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory, with “favorable” conditions for the offensive beginning in mid-May.
• The US and its NATO allies are training, funding and arming three quarters of the forces that are going to be thrown into combat as part of this offensive. One of the documents declares that “12 combat credible [brigades] can be generated for the spring Counteroffensive: 3 internationally by Ukraine, and 9 are US, Allied & Partner trained and equipped.”

”Beyond the leaked document, U.S. officials said the prospects for a modest outcome in the spring offensive also were reinforced in a classified assessment by the National Intelligence Council. That assessment, which was recently briefed to a select group of people on Capitol Hill, found that Ukraine was unlikely to recapture as much territory as Kyiv did last fall in Ukraine’s stunning breakthroughs in the east and south, people familiar with the matter said.”

This “leak” story is used by msm to add whatever they want. No one can verify anything. Today, msm “with access to leaked documents” of course, says that Egypt will supply Russia with 40k missiles, that UAE agreed to act against US and UK, that all Russian secret services have American agents, Russian attacks and their targets were known by US so Ukr protected them. Something that looks written by a diversity hire with green hair in US or UK, based on movie stories, but it works with the previous propaganda that 99% or even 200% of missiles were intercepted, Russia has no more missiles etc.
They simply use some well known facts, like US spying on its allies, which is something even Putin talked about more than once, then they attach the propaganda they want to it, put some puppet in Pentagon to be worried on tv, puppets on wikipedia write what must be written and that’s it, their parallel reality remains intact.
What should be news on msm is that Dalai Lama is a sick freak with a tongue.

Melaleuca @116:

“IMVVHO, that’s why there’s been such a cacophony of noise about these 4chan4pages (the 100-page leak b is seeking is a different zoo animal)
The original uploaded pages illustrated *exactly* what is being circulated internally.
It’s embarrassing. Because it’s so wrong.

Precisely this!
There is a flawed tendency to imagine that intelligent and capable people rise to levels of responsibility in these intelligence agencies. They have “intelligence” right in the name of their organizational category after all. Aren’t they looking for and promoting the brightest and the best?
Unfortunately not. What is sought out for employment and promotion are individuals who share a particular set of delusions, with American Exceptionalism foremost among those delusions. This has only become more extreme as “wokeness” has pervaded the organizational structures.
This delusion isn’t uniform over time. It grows more distant from objective reality as the organization feeds on its own delusion in a positive feedback loop. Like dogs, they eat each other’s shit.
Portions of these 4chan pages are laughably wrong, but it is entirely believable for them to be the genuine best efforts of the American intelligence community distilled for presentation to the Joint Chiefs and Biden.
It may be hard to believe the future of the western world is in the hands of such incompetent morons, but the results of their efforts speak for themselves.

ANYHOO… folks , in an attempt to lift our eyes from the glaringly obvious DISTRACTION ,
as are in great danger of eating ourselves up, or worse turning into actual ‘human caterpillars’, and as some have already noted.
DISTRACTION is how ‘magicians’ entertain us with their obvious tricks dressed as magic. We all know it’s not real magic, but we choose to ignore the distraction, because we want to be entertained, not actually to believe in magic.
When Saudis, Macron and Musk go East – bearing whatever gifts – understand that they were SENT.
The USA didn’t have to actually win the Second World War in Europe to end up occupying it ever since – they let the Red Army make the big sacrifices first and then pretended to invade. Its’s called a win-win for the Old Slave Owners and Money. If Russia had failed, the same charade would have happened , with the USA coming to ITS and Europe’s aid, to save them from the US funded proxy Nazis, from the West and East, and have taken the whole of EurAsia.
They settled for the consolation prize instead and an occupation of Western Europe and a World Reserve Currency under the next iteration of Empire; to regroup for the NEXT attempt. And the Next … that’s how it has worked for centuries – buy and set up proxy armies, nations, empires, currencies and then move on.
The logic is mercenary, Why waste time and effort duplicating effort to compete and win fairly when you can just let someone else do it – then take it off them ! Using unfair means and foul. Always foul, because of the Intent.
The First King of Mars, Elon, will never get there, with his Rockets, without Russian and Chinese, Resources, Technology and Engineering. Just as he is incapable of delivering Tesla’s without the same.
He bought Twatter and has now even changed its ownership and name to the ‘X’ corporation , having the American Individual (human!) right of being an entity in San Francisco. A place which he is desperately showing is Fentanyl addicted central full of zombies.
Why? So he can be the knight in shining armour who saves it.
From that to Saviour of The Collective Waste is his destiny.
The always Zionist controlled entity Saudi Arabia, from day 1 of its existence, is suddenly allowed to ‘change’ because it allows the subterfuge of playing nice with the New new world order because the Old NWO has reached its Culmination.
A cuckoo egg being planted in the nest if you will.
Macaroon the, obvious old aristo, not so secret gay man, raised as the little prince , passed through the Biggest Oldest Bank as training and installed as French King, is redirected to go seek some face saving ACCESS and pretend he really cares about the whole of humanity and not just the Garden !
Who else could go?? There is no actual grassroots evolved owned Political Leadership in any state of Europe now.
Distraction is an Art.
Trying to fool the oldest Cultures and Civilisations on the planet as the Arrivistes have been trying to do for centuries by pulling strings doesn’t work anymore.
The smiting this time would last a long long time – so time to send the messengers to beg for a Seat at Their Table as the Old Table collapsed under the weight of Hubris, Avarice and Stench of rotting Slave Masters and centuries of human misery.
With those thoughts, I wish all the barflies a good day.

There are some additional clues in the images of the printed sheets that seemingly no one has noticed.
– Look at the upper left corner of the secret/noforn document dated Mar 23. There is some kind of logo or picture behind the paper. It looks like a man’s forehead with heavy eyebrows viewed from the side. One can also make out some vertical writing. There is what looks like “ATIV”, though the “A” is too clipped to be certain. Then there are what look like 3 stars also arranged vertically. To the right there are more letters that could be “SP” and “SC”, respectively. I would think that anyone who has seen the entire logo or picture would be able to recognize it from these clues.
– The top-secret paper from 0200 EST March 2023 also has some kind of clipped image or symbol appearing at center right. Notice the orange and green bounded by what looks like a black semi-circular boundary. There is writing across both the orange and green sections. However, the resolution is poor. Again, someone may be able to recognize what it is from experience or even enhance the image to read the letters.
– Finally, the image without security markings has what looks like a triangular piece of metal with a hole on the left at bottom center.

Yes.
DonbassDevushka telegram is being blamed for the 4chan4pages upload.
The Pentagon has instructed Donbass Devushka to remove the “leaked” documents. The channel has been threatened with removal from apple and google play other app stores.
How can the Pentagon do this to a Russian telegram channel?
They just did.
Also, as I’ve posted already in this thread, by circulating the leaked docs, this has given the US the excuse it’s wanted to go after telegram.
We @bar have been relying on telegram for non western corporate media information from the start of the sloSMO.

“…“They’re taught to sing songs and march” in basic training, the leader said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with reporters…” and only later the drafted are faced with hardcore work such as digging trenches and basic soldiering.
I suppose the trainers are keeping it light and fun in the beginning, to keep the reluctant around. Get them excited and fired up to convince as many as possible that this is what they want to do. Once they’re deeper in the fold, it’s no longer a song and dance routine. “About 2hours after the “gotcha”:winning post, new docs started appearing, and these were obvious photoshops, with the numbers of Ukraine – Russia KIA modified so that now Russia was “winning”.”

You got this the other way around, weirdly enough. All originals actually had the realistic lower number for Russia. Since this was clearly one of the main reasons of leaking the data, the news docs were quickly posted by counter-intelligence and have muddied the waters. There’s a clear motive.
Now not everyone can check this but there’s a context. The number in the document is near exact the BBC-Mediazona research for that very date. And actually, there does not exist some counting agency that would release the numbers inside Ukraine or at the front. The US military would not use Ukrainian MoD data, obviously. On top of that, it can be expected that Ukraine suffers more casualties as they’re fighting against an air force, missiles, flame flowers and are forced underground and in hiding during many battles. No way they can limit the casualties and MIA to the suggested degree. It would be almost magic! So we have sound logic and the very one semi-neutral source in existence behind the claim that the Russian causality figures were lower and closer to reality in the original document. Of course low-balled as totals will creep up in such cases.

No.
The original had Ukraine with the lower number.
That’s why it was posted.
It was used to “prove” Ukraine was winning.
The altered docs that came later reversed this to lower numbers for Russia.

The interesting question of this leak is about motive. The release would almost certainly burn the mole, if any. Release would not help any military usage by Russia. And it seems to be done with some deep knowledge. Photographing prints in limited time is exactly how this could be pulled off from the inside these days as other means are heavily monitored and finger printed. The motive might be something more akin to Wikileaks: sharing secrets as to hamper current war efforts and escalation plans. But it’s certainly possible that elements inside the US military intelligence have acted, as a way to circumvent what in their eyes looks like a foreign policy threatening that what they believe in (as patriots). This is not uncommon in the USA these days. Politics-by-leak as policy shaping instrument. Beyond another Bradly Mannings type, it remains quite likely a sign of an actual internal dispute with the release acting like a break on developments, actions and influencing allies who might provide further push back in time.

______
The key here is the removal of the threat of a Total Industrial War with the USSR, and thus thinking, planning, procurement for such an undertaking was shelved, deindustrialization vastly escalated as the Neoliberal’s feasted, and we see the mediocrities (weapon systems) that were produced instead.
Deeply insightful and deeply appreciated… as always. I had to look up the Seldon Crisis. It’s been decades since I’ve read Asimov’s Foundation series, but it still resonates (as do Psychohistorian’s posts here). It feels like we’re witnessing the emergence of the noosphere, of Gaia, an epochal shift in human consciousness, and MoA is a key node in its synapse. It’s a momentous, thrilling time to be alive. I look forward to my continuing education on your VK page.
