Ukraine – Media Start To Acknowledge Reality

Finally some truth about the real state of the Ukrainian military is sneaking into main stream media. It is as bad, still not fully disclosed, as we have described it again and again.

As the Washington Post provides:

Ukraine short of skilled troops and munitions as losses, pessimism grow

I'll leave out the propaganda bits and go for the factual beef. The quotes are long but needed to grasp the depth of horrible situation.

The opening paragraph:

The quality of Ukraine’s military force, once considered a substantial advantage over Russia, has been degraded by a year of casualties that have taken many of the most experienced fighters off the battlefield, leading some Ukrainian officials to question Kyiv’s readiness to mount a much-anticipated spring offensive.

That spring offensive is as likely to happen as the announced relief campaign to unblock Bakhmut. The later is bogged down in mud which will only become worse over the next few weeks.

The spring campaign will be made up of green recruits which will use a wild mix of weapons they are not familiar with. Unless there are some 'western' surprises I see no way how it can overwhelm the well prepared Russian defense lines.

Back to the piece:

[Á]n influx of inexperienced draftees, brought in to plug the losses, has changed the profile of the Ukrainian force, which is also suffering from basic shortages of ammunition, including artillery shells and mortar bombs, according to military personnel in the field.

“The most valuable thing in war is combat experience,” said a battalion commander in the 46th Air Assault Brigade, who is being identified only by his call sign, Kupol, in keeping with Ukrainian military protocol. “A soldier who has survived six months of combat and a soldier who came from a firing range are two different soldiers. It’s heaven and earth.”

“And there are only a few soldiers with combat experience,” Kupol added. “Unfortunately, they are all already dead or wounded.”

Such grim assessments have spread a palpable, if mostly unspoken, pessimism from the front lines to the corridors of power in Kyiv, the capital.

Ukrainian losses, estimated to be nearer to 200,000 than to 100,000 dead with even more wounded, are especially felt at the lower command level. One can not just take a salesman or teacher from the street and put them into a junior command role.

Kupol said he was speaking out in hopes of securing better training for Ukrainian forces from Washington and that he hopes Ukrainian troops being held back for a coming counteroffensive will have more success than the inexperienced soldiers now manning the front under his command.

“There’s always belief in a miracle,” he said. “Either it will be a massacre and corpses or it’s going to be a professional counteroffensive. There are two options. There will be a counteroffensive either way.”

It indeed will need a miracle for the counteroffensive to become anything but a massacre.

One senior Ukrainian government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid, called the number of tanks promised by the West a “symbolic” amount. Others privately voiced pessimism that promised supplies would even reach the battlefield in time.

“If you have more resources, you more actively attack,” the senior official said. “If you have fewer resources, you defend more. We’re going to defend. That’s why if you ask me personally, I don’t believe in a big counteroffensive for us. I’d like to believe in it, but I’m looking at the resources and asking, ‘With what?’ Maybe we’ll have some localized breakthroughs.”

“We don’t have the people or weapons,” the senior official added. “And you know the ratio: When you’re on the offensive, you lose twice or three times as many people. We can’t afford to lose that many people.”

The U.S. is not going to ask if the "Ukraine can afford the losses". It will push for a large attack which will have little chance to even get out of its preparation phase.

Kupol, who consented to having his photograph taken and said he understood he could face personal blowback for giving a frank assessment, described going to battle with newly drafted soldiers who had never thrown a grenade, who readily abandoned their positions under fire and who lacked confidence in handling firearms.

His unit withdrew from Soledar in eastern Ukraine in the winter after being surrounded by Russian forces who later captured the city. Kupol recalled how hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers in units fighting alongside his battalion simply abandoned their positions, even as fighters for Russia’s Wagner mercenary group pressed ahead.

After a year of war, Kupol, a lieutenant colonel, said his battalion is unrecognizable. Of about 500 soldiers, roughly 100 were killed in action and another 400 wounded, leading to complete turnover. Kupol said he was the sole military professional in the battalion, and he described the struggle of leading a unit composed entirely of inexperienced troops.

“I get 100 new soldiers,” Kupol said. “They don’t give me any time to prepare them. They say, ‘Take them into the battle.’ They just drop everything and run. That’s it. Do you understand why? Because the soldier doesn’t shoot. I ask him why, and he says, ‘I’m afraid of the sound of the shot.’ And for some reason, he has never thrown a grenade. … We need NATO instructors in all our training centers, and our instructors need to be sent over there into the trenches. Because they failed in their task.”

He described severe ammunition shortages, including a lack of simple mortar bombs and grenades for U.S.-made MK 19s.
…
“You’re on the front line,” Kupol said. “They’re coming toward you, and there’s nothing to shoot with.”

Kupol said Kyiv needed to focus on better preparing new troops in a systematic way. “It’s like all we do is give interviews and tell people that we’ve already won, just a little bit further away, two weeks, and we’ll win,” he said.

Yes, Kiev, helped by 'western' media, is speaking of a victory that is unlikely to ever come. The view from the field is way different:

Dmytro, a Ukrainian soldier whom The Post is identifying only by first name for security reasons, described many of the same conditions. Some of the less-experienced troops serving at his position with the 36th Marine Brigade in the Donetsk region “are afraid to leave the trenches,” he said. Shelling is so intense at times, he said, that one soldier will have a panic attack, then “others catch it.”

The first time he saw fellow soldiers very shaken, Dmytro said, he tried to talk them through the reality of the risks. The next time, he said, they “just ran from the position.”

“I don’t blame them,” he said. “They were so confused.”

Yes, shell shock is real. Being under artillery fire is terrifying. Especially when you are a newbie, sit in a ditch without armor and with no way to respond to it.

Russian artillery supremacy is why Ukrainian losses are a multiple of those on the Russian side. But even if foot soldiers are available and well trained there is nothing that can make up for the loss of an army's backbone:

Ukraine has lost many of its junior officers who received U.S. training over the past nine years, eroding a corps of leaders who helped distinguish the Ukrainians from their Russian enemies at the start of the invasion, the Ukrainian official said. Now, the official said, those forces must be replaced. “A lot of them are killed,” the official said.

Replaced with what? It takes years to train a master sergeant or captain. These positions require experience in the field. No civilian training can replace that. Three week courses, run by 'western' officers with no real war experience, will not be able to make up for this:

Even with new equipment and training, U.S. military officials consider Ukraine’s force insufficient to attack all along the giant front, where Russia has erected substantive defenses, so troops are being trained to probe for weak points that allow them to break through with tanks and armored vehicles.

There will be no weak points. Or maybe there will be some, intentionally left open by the Russians, to draw the Ukrainian 'counterattack' in to then entrap it in one big cauldron.

It is over for the Ukraine. The Russian forces are enveloping Ukrainian units in several small cauldrons. Bakhmut is only one of them. South of it is the New York agglomeration which will become another one. Anviivka, further south, is also in big trouble and may even become the first of the three to fall.

bigger

Even the New York Times has started to notice it:

From Kupiansk in the north to Avdiivka in the south, through Bakhmut, Lyman and dozens of towns in between, Russian forces are attacking along a 160-mile arc in eastern Ukraine in an intensifying struggle for tactical advantage before possible spring offensives. Heavy fighting was reported on Monday in and around Avdiivka, a town that has been on the front lines for much of the past year and in recent days has once again become a focal point of combat.
…
In Bakhmut, where the Wagner private military company has seized control of the eastern side of the city, brutal combat is taking place in the streets, the blasted remains of buildings and deep underground in the warrens of mines, according to Russian military bloggers.
…
In Kupiansk and surrounding villages, Russia has stepped up shelling and probing ground assaults, and Ukraine has ordered civilians to leave. Russian shelling intensified in Lyman and other towns, as well. According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces make more than 100 attempts each day to break through their lines.

With few people or intact buildings, the most hotly contested places have little left to offer beyond control of roads and railways that the Kremlin sees as important to its goal of seizing the entire eastern region known as the Donbas. The assaults may also yield better positioning for the next attack, intelligence about the other side’s positions and propaganda value.

Not mention by the NYT, but most important is that the Russian forces in all these attacks are destroying the Ukrainian army.

In a few weeks, after those three cauldrons have collapsed, the Ukrainian army will be on the run. It will be summer by then and the mud will have dried up. The Russian forces will then become more mobile which may even allow for wider 'big arrow' moves.

The only way for the Ukrainian army to counter those moves will be the use of the forces it currently prepares for a 'counteroffensive' as defense formations.

But even that will only give it another three month or so before the inevitable collapse arrives.

No doubt, there will be a late spring offensive by AFU, tens of thousands trained in uk et al for this purpose. a lot of hardware involved. it won’t be the drive south, it will be for the retaking and ultimate PR for the media of bakhmut. ultimately it will fail and be the nail in the washington cabal’s hopes. that will be the summer, then the peace on russian terms, and xi will preside.

Somehow I’m reminded of The Tin Drum, in which the portrait of Beethoven over the family piano is flipped over for a portrait of Hitler during the Nazi years, then flipped back over again once the Soviets came to call. That’s the depth and breadth of German culture.
Rather appropriate, and ironic too, when one considers that the author spent most of his life denying he’d been in the Waffen-SS.

The SU can do the Cobra, no need to touch the UAV, more than enough turbulence wash to disrupt the course….fuel dump, hmm, that would screw with the fresh air intake for the turbo prop, maybe make it stall out, hence the swan dive to the water.

AN INTERMEZZO
Perhaps, the best war action over the past several days hasn’t been in the Donbas, missles in Western Ukraine, or UAVs flying into the Black Sea; maybe it’s in the US Banking system.
MSN reported 4 days ago that funds were missing from Wells Fargo customer accounts and that direct deposits into customer accounts were not made. Computer glitches they say. Wells Fargo was named just the other day as one of only four safe banks in the US.
Also, I know that several weeks First Horizons (a regional bank serving 12 mid-south states), had a recorded message on their customer 800 line apologizing to the thousands of customers who had credit card charges denied and had account discrepancies, for the 2 hour expected wait times they were going to experience. It was computer glitches. Callbacks were an option if tou didn’t want to hold.
Maybe there is a cyber war not being reported??
Just sayin’

re: Ukraine – Media Start To Acknowledge Reality
. . .from The Kyiv Independent, Mar 15
Battle of Bakhmut: Ukrainian soldiers worry Russians begin to ‘taste victory’

DONETSK OBLAST – Just days before heading back to fight in the Battle of Bakhmut, a Ukrainian soldier Volodymyr, 54, said he felt ill-prepared.
“When they drive us to Bakhmut, I already know I’m being sent to death,” Volodymyr told the Kyiv Independent during his brief stay in Kramatorsk, a city in Donetsk Oblast some 25 kilometers west of the front line.
Volodymyr, an infantryman from the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, said he struggled to eat after fighting in Bakhmut for months. He looked shaken as he talked.
For two months, Volodymyr’s unit was tasked with guarding Bakhmut against small Russian assault groups creeping into the city. The brigade was constantly under mortar fire as soldiers were outdoors where shrapnels could wound or kill them at any moment.
“(The Russians) keep firing at us, but we don’t have artillery – so we have nothing to attack them back with,” Volodymyr said. “I don’t know if I will return or not. We are just getting killed.”
Ukrainian infantrymen interviewed by the Kyiv Independent described the fighting in Bakhmut as a desperate survival challenge against Russia’s “infinite” stocks of artillery munitions and manpower. With just their machine guns and rifles, they say they braced relentless Russian mortar and artillery attacks until their hideout was eventually destroyed.

Volodymyr is haunted by the thoughts of his comrades killed in Bakhmut. He recalls a 29-year-old comrade whom he found lying dead after shrapnel hit the young man’s head at a position.
“I knew he was dead, but I just kept wrapping his head (with bandages),” Volodymyr said.. . .here

That the ukies must train in the UK, Germany and US is simply evidence that the Russians would bomb them on their training bases if in the Ukraine. There’s your air power. There’s nothing that the Americans, British, Germans can at this point, real teach them. Every large 200mph UAV like the Reapers will get flipped and the Ukies will have to fight blind.

No not at all. Way off there.
First, how is a Reaper (and other large UAS – Unmanned Air Systems) designed and controlled?
Many here think a “pilot” is commanding with a jot stick, like an extended video game. That is not the case. UAS’s fly by way point. The controller sets a series of way points that the UAS follows by using inertial navigation and GPS.
Why is this? As UAS got larger, their range became greater. The larger the range, the larger the time lag between ground controller input and aircraft response. This was the huge drawback for early attempts at UAS.
So a ground controller could not have made a sudden action that caused an uncontrolled dive, etc.
Second. UAS have really shitty situational awareness. Their function is to scan ground territory, not the airspace around them. The UAS and ground controller would not have any idea that they were in front of, next to, or even below another aircraft unless that was provided by an external source, like an AWACS or JSTARS. So unless the other aircraft flew UNDER the UAS, it wouldn’t report it to the ground controller. So an adversary can easily knock one around with a combination of air stream disruption or exhaust impact.
Third. Duration vs maneuverability. UAS designed for long term flight have very efficient aerodynamics and engines. But that is tuned for steady flight with no hard maneuvers. As such, they are sitting ducks for any generation jet fighter.
Fourth. Survival. Modern large UAS have survival modes. If signal from ground station disappears (jamming, terrain, etc) the software places it into a safe mode with a stable flight. If there is a time out on signal re-implementation, then there is a return to home function. If GPS is lost (or jammed) then inertial nav along with baro altimeter allow it to function in a degraded mode. Even a loss of GPS and ground station signal, it will still fly back to an area near home base.
So, barring any EW effects on the flight computer system, there are only a few way to bring a UAS down.
a. Weapons impact – stated as not used here.
b. engine failure – possible if fuel was added into jet engine, causing a fire or an engine stall.
c. disruptive aerodynamics – exhaust blast – possible, but maybe only for short moments
d. other impacts – I go with this one. A wing tip to wing tip “quick flip” would do it. As the UAS fly slow compared to a jet. lining up the tips would be easy. Getting a foot away or so, then a quick roll maneuver (by the jet) would provide an opposite roll to the UAS, faster than the flight control computer could handle, and not having the best control surfaces, would be unable to get out of. Once rolled 90 degrees, all the aerodynamics are messed up, and it goes into a dive. Since the ground controller doesn’t have joy stick control, they would rely on on board software to fight the dive.
The statement that the US “forced the UAS to crash” makes little sense. That means giving it a waypoint that is the ground or water. That also goes against terrain impact protections built into the software. However, there may be a “crash at all costs” routine designed to maximize damage in the event of engine stall and failure to restart. This would protect capture of the onboard systems.

Posted by: BroncoBilly | Mar 15 2023 3:20 utc | 318

That is, the scheme was chosen by the Russians like this. The Su-27 bypasses the UAV, opens the faucet and starts draining the fuel, which falls on the MQ-9 coming from behind and smears all its sensors, cameras, etc. In fact, in the blind, he could not come back. Or the screw was flooded with fuel and it jammed.
So the Russians did not lose the Su-27.
These UAVs monitor the Crimea, many called them the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, the attack on the port in Sevastopol, and so on.
I wonder if this feint will be repeated again? Russia decided to raise rates. Usually, only Americans dared such impudence, who could undermine, blow up, land, seize other people’s toys under any stupid pretext. (A bag of white powder, which was used as a coward at the UN, as an excuse for the war in Iraq).

I keep an eye on black sea area as there is often some strange aircraft in vicinity.
Forte 10 and 11 are regulars off the coast of Crimea. They usually take off from Sicily do a loop in the Med to ensure all is working before flying up to the Black Sea. Invariably they are always identified as Global Hawk. So characterisation as Reaper drone makes no sense and if they stick to that story it smells of blind panic by an establishment more concerned about saving face than about stating facts.
Fact is Iran just got a new toy to duplicate.
I think the Russians brought it down in the sea using EW. Sure it banked hard and fell out of the sky, but why? EW. Thanks America.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦💀 Military Expert Boris Rozhin on the Situation in the #Artyomovsk (#Bakhmut) Sector on the Evening of 14 March 2023⚡️
🔹 North:
➖ There is a further advance of the Wagner PMC near #Zaliznyanskoye and Orekhovo-Vasilyevka.
➖ Fighting is taking place on the outskirts of #Bogdanovka.
➖ It is noted that the enemy is preparing to launch counterattacks in this direction. There is an accumulation of AFU reserves near Ray-Aleksandrovka and Chasov Yar.
➖ After the failure of counterattacks on #Kleshchiyevka, there is a good chance of an attempt to stabilize the front by pushing Russian forces north of #Artyomovsk, which would allow at least one road to the city to be unblocked.
📌 So Far, all roads from #Artyomovsk are under the fire control of the Wagner PMC to varying degrees. In fact, there is a situation of operational encirclement, but a full fledged cauldron can be formed only if the enemy loses #Bogdanovka or #Khromovo.
🔹South:
➖ Having repulsed enemy counterattacks near #Krasnoye, Wagner PMC assault squads have advanced east of #Krasnoye in residential areas, and approaching the southwestern exit from the borough.
➖ The mop-up of southeastern neighbourhoods is underway and continues after the main enemy forces withdrew from Zabakhmutka.
🔹City:
➖ The Wagner PMC has liberated the Vostokmash plant in the AZOM’s industrial zone. In fact, it has managed to wedge itself into the enemy’s defenses in the northwestern part of the city.
➖ Progress is being made in the central part of the city. According to Prigozhin, the forward positions of our troops are already close to the city administration.
➖ The AFU is experiencing difficulties in holding a coherent defence in the western part of the city. The original plan envisaged a gradual withdrawal to western #Artyomovsk and a longterm defence, including the reliance on a river across which bridges have been blown up. Now the fighting is shifting to the western part of the city.
➖ Nevertheless, the AFU declare that they will not retreat and are trying to hold #Artyomovsk, while preparing a counterattack.
📌 Strong Attacks can be expected after the ground dries out a bit and the reserves moved from central #Ukraine have been arrived.

Richard,
this has nothing to do with Macgregor. There have sprung more than 30 UTube channels ostensibly relaying videos from Ritter and Macgregor, but not related to them. Linguistic evidence suggests that the owners are not native speakers; they never mention their source and use several simple strategies to create conditions of plausible deniability: clip off the beginning, use a double frame, edit the real interviewer out of the video. It is an interesting case of confluence of interests. Some base players cash in on the huge interest that has sprung about Macgregor and Ritter, but there is more. The original channels are in effect blocked from having any real influence. They are deprived of income and especially the ability to bring to bear other related information. In effect, this results in the real creators not being able to form a bond with the people that seek their content, deprived of their natural public.
As for the plausible deniability, that is more for the sake of UTube/ Alphabet.
I really doubt that the matching algorithms of google fail to find matches with the originals. I expect when the relevant info is leaked we shall find out that this was not simply condoned, but actively enouraged by google.

Amerika gets paranoid and pisses in it’s pants when an unarmed weather billon drifts by. Launches war planes to kill the thing with million-dollar rockets.
Amerika sends another armed Reaper-drone to attack Sevastopol marine base, so Ukraine president Selensky can crack more jokes about “smoking accidents”. Russia shouts “boo” and pisses on the drone. Amerika pisses in its pants, again, and panik-crashes the drone into the Black Sea. In a location where it can easily be recovered.

Agreed, which is more reason for me to believe that Wagner is an organism under much greater scrutiny and control than shown. Mutiny isn’t something new to Russia, and only with ethnic (Ukraine SMO) or religious (Chechen wars) causes. Russian maintained tight political control over its armies throughout the worst times since 90s as the only bulwark keeping the country from being split apart. By extension that applied to the whole military industrial sector that supplies all the shells that Wagner is firing off. I have not seen evidences on Wagner having their own factories or supply routes, and assuming they don’t get ammos through the Army but instead, hypothetically place orders with a domestic factory the approval chain would still ultimately go to a govt body. There’s no way Wagner is getting supplies without the political say-so and an army without ammo is, well, meat grinder ingredients as observed. As long as Wagner serves Russia’s interest, their logistics umbilical cord is ensured. Easy mutiny prevention.
They are allowed to be flashy/reckless but the opsec itself was tighter than anything AFU has shown, with a level of control akin to Russian army, not DLPR forces. Notice that any ‘leaks’ come from Prigozhin himself. If they are a truly private independent entity out of Russian armed forces’ control, there would have been successful attempts to court defections. There was one or two interviews with fake ‘escaped Wagnerite convict’ spilling beans which didn’t corroborate with battlefield happenings, rather straight from msm echo chamber – no trainings, human waves tactics, lack of support etc. We all know by now that those were the actual issues faced by AFU and projected by collective West onto Russia.
All conjectures for now, though what I’ve observed through macro updates and other folks’ comments do support the hypothesis that Wagner is a well-supported and deniable battering ram and semi-PR agency of the Russian Armed Forces. I will, of course, revise opinions as things unfold.

If it’s the same information from the same person, then it’s not “blocking” Ritter and Macgregor, it’s extending their influence.
This is like file-sharing and “intellectual property” – there’s no harm to the original because the people viewing the copycat videos may never have found the original videos via the Youtube algorithm anyway. So any revenue the copycat maker receives would never have gone to the original while at the same time the copycat extends the reach of the original.
I’m not going to get into the whole file-sharing issue here as it’s off-topic. But the so-called “harm” that is complained about by copyright holders is mostly illusory and this has been proven by studies in other media of the phenomena.
It’s quite interesting, however, that any copycats would seize on these two guys when there is obviously tons more Youtube subjects that are likely much more profitable to copy.

And there’s the matter-of-fact truth of the matter. Occupied Germany had its major gas supply pipelines destroyed by its occupier that controls its sovereignty. The message provided probably to Merkle was something like this: “We’re going to alter the type of nation Germany is and that’s the way it’s going to be.” Recall that Trump also charged Europe for being dependent on Russian hydrocarbons and that needed to cease. Trump also recently said Europe wasn’t paying enough for the destruction of Ukraine. And we know both BushCo and Obama opposed the construction of NS1. Keeping Europe a colony is primary Outlaw US Empire policy towards Europe since the end of WW2, which is the easiest way to explain the behavior of those supposedly running EU/NATO nations.

Thank you, I agree entirely with these statements.

Once familiar with the old hands over there, it’s not too hard to pick out the ones who are worth reading to – like me. 🙂 The threads are usually around 300-400 posts per day, and perhaps ten percent or less are worth reading. But the ones that are worth reading, from people like karlof1, Outraged and some others are useful for anyone who’s not already aware of the facts they provide. Most other sites, like Antiwar.com, are also afflicted by trolls. But MoA is one of the best analysis sites I’m aware of. Simplicius would be a great addition, as he was at The Saker.

Propeller is at the very rear. It would not be hard for the Russian jet to have approached it from the rear with the drone moving around such that the nose of the SU-27 just got inside the arc of the propeller for an instant.

All nonsense, since the claimed Reaper drone flies at 300 Km/h and the SU-27 flies many times faster and is not able to fly as slow as the Reaper drone. The propeller claims are nonsense for this and other reasons I don’t bother to repeat here.

Many people mistakenly believe that mercenary means an institution independent of the state. In reality, such large mercenary agencies are simply privatized military agencies, but still serve the sovereign state.
This does not mean they are an arm of the state-run military enterprise, but neither does it mean they are independent of the sovereign state.
Just as the pirates, although seemingly independent of the state, are in fact supported entirely by state-driven letters of marque.
Many popular entertainment works mistakenly view modern mercenaries as armies independent from the state, which is almost beyond foolish.
Just as multinational corporations used to be seen as “beyond the nation-states”, we now see that they are not.

Listen to what Mercouris says about it. He is victim to organised scams. He calls it criminal, as the scammers are selling (probably non-existent) goods exploiting his work without permission. It is clearly an effort to smear and dilute the message, I believe that is the primary objective of the scams.

Posted by: Norwegian | Mar 15 2023 6:47 utc | 345

Mercouris said something odd in his latest video. He said the claims that a Kinzahl had hit a bunker and killed multiple high-ranking Ukrainian officers and likely NATO personnel, was “not true” but provided no details or references. It did not seem typical of him to say something like that without explanation.

Dear B,
It seems to me that perhaps you should ask why the Washington Post give a large place to the Kupol guy ?
Remember that we are in a large war. A war where propaganda and intox its very important.
The message here is : The 3th Ukro army cannot be built.
I am not has optimistic as that. Biden told Zelensky in Kiev that now he needs results. In anyway the 3th Ukro army will be built with more powerfull weapons. An offensive is then certainly to come in the next 3 months.
IMHO, this article, of course with some reality, main purposes is to intoxicate the Resistance and the Russians.

I recall reports of a few days ago that a USAF B52 flew directly towards St Petersburg, with transponders off, before turning off and returning by overflying Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The Russians have now retaliated against a Reaper, and end up with the debris to pore over.
Closer and closer we inch towards direct military confrontation. The Russians are trying to manage the confrontations to give as little excuse to the Western war hawks as possible, hoping that the Western elites lose interest in a war they can’t win.

I want to make your comment ‘on topic’ by saying, that commenters ignorant mind set is what has started this unprovoked war in Ukraine, they truly are deluded into thinking they the racists are better than the rest of the world. They are not.
Hence we have a war started by America killing hundreds of thousands of Russian speaking people on both sides.
What makes my blood boil is the fact that this is being done with minimum loss of American lives.

Yeah I was extrapolating on the idea that Wagner has no support nor easy grounds to one day go rogue like ex-Soviet generals in Hollywood scripts. Russia is too burecratic and Putin himself, too legalistic that I can’t even fathom the complexity of what went on behind the scenes among Duma, Stavka and who knows what entities to justify, sustain and develop a project like Wagner. Independent marauding force like the pirates of yore is a great analogy, allow me to steal it!

If there are any ad-related scams associated with the videos, then fine. But my impression is that such videos are simply receiving ad revenue from Youtube based on Youtube advertisers and not directly selling anything themselves. This can hardly be called a “scam” in the same sense as directly selling non-existent products. I did not see any ads for these videos, but then my browser blocks ads anyway. But if that is the case, then your point is valid – assuming the products advertised are actually non-existent.
I really don’t give a shit in any case. I’m simply posting a link to a video I found. I didn’t bother to check the name of the channel and I probably won’t the next time I see one.
What am I supposed to do? Become an OSINT investigator of every Youtube video I see recommended to me by Youtube’s own algorithm? I’m supposed to feel ashamed that someone fooled me with a non-official video?

Folks, I hate to break it to you but there’s nothing especially unique about the mud in Ukraine.
If it’s dry for a couple of weeks (like now, in southern Ukraine) then the ground is hard and dusty. If it rains or snows, yeah, it does get muddy.
The only reason why Ukraine (and Moldova’s, etc) mud gets such a fearsome reputation is because vast numbers of roads and streets in the country are completely unpaved, as in no gravel or anything else. And unpaved (wet) roads get churned up really fast.
If Germany or France had this many unpaved roads, the mud would be the same.

Richard,
I do not think I was as explicit as I should have been; nor did you address the points I did make. No matter. I believe these concern us all: (a) circumstancial evidence suggests that this is intentional on part of UTube (I checked on the video you mentioned, and the site brings the original (www.youtube.com/ watch?v=rJdDyp0RAEc) so low in the sequence that unless I was sure it had to be there I would have stopped looking: despite the fact that had chosen a temporal presentation, it appeared AFTER half-a-month-old scumsters’ videos–it was posted only yesterday); (b) that the perpetrators are not simply money-starved harmless crooks, but deliberate obfuscators. They present as new old videos and often under misleading titles; and (c) they have the effect of shoring up mainstream media by severing the link between alternative journalists (like Patrick Henningsen & those of The Grayzone) from connecting to a public. Only organisations with a legal team have the ability to wade these waters.
So if one is not plugged in, one has no means of finding intended source updates on a subject of interest, and will have to eventually resign onself to what is retured by UTube/ google searches.
I also find it interesting that more revealing subjects, say for instance about the connections of the deep state with the new media, do not get the heavy-handed treatment Ukraine war gets.
Best,
/@vec

I reiterate: I don’t give a shit – because there’s nothing we can do about it.
I posted the link to the video, then I downloaded it for later viewing. From the video quality it’s clear that it was a copy. I didn’t see that before I posted.
Neither did I comprehend what you were trying to prove. For the record, I’m not convinced you have proved your point. Perhaps you are right, perhaps not. I don’t know and again I don’t care because it’s irrelevant. I posted the link because it was Scott Ritter talking his usual stuff, which I thought would be interesting here.
That’s it. I am not interested in anything else. What gripes me about this is how fast others wanted to use this to score points on me as they usually do.
I really am considering leaving the site again as I’ve done before. The personal bullshit, not to mention the propaganda bullshit, gets old around here. I just recommended MoA to Simplicius and as I noted in an earlier post someone responded pointing out that MoA is full of trolls, and morons. b needs to clean this place up before everyone who does post something useful here decides it’s not worth the shit.
I have an incredible amount of things I have to deal with and I spend WAY WAY too much time posting here. Perhaps it needs to stop. If I can’t even take two minutes to post a useful link without being called on it, then perhaps that’s a sign.

Russian ambassador to the US: “We don’t want a clash with Washington”
Russia does not want a “clash” with the United States: Russian ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov told reporters, after being summoned to the US State Department over the incident between a Moscow jet and a US drone. However, the diplomat noted that “as we see it, American planes should not be near the Russian border.” “Can you imagine if such a drone suddenly appeared near New York or San Francisco?” he asked, even though the crash happened in international airspace. “Can you imagine – he continued – the reaction of the US press, of the Pentagon, to this drone? What kind of drone was it? Think before you summon me to the State Department. It was a multi-purpose drone, with an attack capacity of up to 1700 kg of explosive payload”. “Tell me how a defense ministry of any country would react if the threat of such a danger appeared along the borders of its country?” he asked again. “I think it is best that we discuss ways of cooperation and mutual action at the State Department, but unfortunately, my communication with the State Department lately has only been to address its complaints about the actions of the Russian Federation,” he said. “The Russian Federation is not interested in confrontation. The Russian side is interested in pragmatic relations with the United States in the interests of both the Russian and American people,” she concluded. “I think it is best that we discuss ways of cooperation and mutual action at the State Department, but unfortunately, my communication with the State Department lately has only been to address its complaints about the actions of the Russian Federation,” he said. “The Russian Federation is not interested in confrontation. There has been a claim by Prigozhin that the trolls have been misrepresenting (they are trolls; it’s what they do) but most legitimate posters are dismissing as just more of Prigozhin’s humor.
Trolls: “looool! Prigozhin said he was going to be president of Russia! He’s going to take over from Putin!”
Normal poster: “No, Prigozhin was joking about being president of the Ukraine.”
As far as I can tell, RSH has been the only poster who got Prigozhin’s message right but also looked at the possibility that his intention might be somewhat serious. I want to go a step further and point out why Prigozhin’s intention to be president of the Ukraine might not be so far-fetched.
First of all, limitations in the Ukraine’s constitution are irrelevant as that constitution and all of the current laws built on it in the Ukraine are shit and will be scrapped before the dust settles there. The Ukraine (or whatever comes to be in its place) is guaranteed to be getting a new constitution to complement the denazification and demilitarization, so we can consider the current laws there to be nothing more than of historical interest.
Concern trolls: “B-b-b-ut after all the death and destruction nobody in the Ukraine is going to like Russians anymore! They’re going to hate Prigozhin and Putin and Tchaikovsky and Tolstoy!”
The same way that the Japanese and Germans hate Americans, right? I am sure the Russians are willing to work with that kind of “hate” from the Ukrainians.
The fact is that when the Nazi propaganda gets switched off and a population emerges from a fascist nightmare they tend to worship those who came to their rescue.
Aside: This didn’t work for any of America’s military adventures since WWII because the US wasn’t rescuing people from fascism but rather was trying to impose fascism on them… big difference. Don’t try to equate the attitude of the people in Afghanistan towards Americans with the attitude the Ukrainians will have towards Russians when they are liberated.
When this conflict is over people like Putin and Prigozhin are going to be seen as heroes in the Ukraine. Prigozhin as the first president of whatever state is born out of this tragedy is not at all outside the realm of possibility.

Agree. Mr. Hack should indeed take care of himself, and pay no attention to the tabaquis. He produces a lot of good content, and wallows through parts of the internet I refuse to spend time on, so I would be sorry to see him go. And I’d say he has come a long way, already, as a patron of the bar.

@ Hack
I’m one of your fans. But, dude, c’mon. You’re getting unreasonably annoyed over a little advice and the merest hint of a request to find the original. Maybe bookmark some original channels so you start there instead of with a “search”.
You’re réaction makes me wonder whether some stress is getting to you. Stress from reading/learning so much about the war and its possible paths? I know I feel some.
Chill, man.
And thanks for what you contribute.

I would rather consider Prigozhin’s future role as the governor of occupied Ukraine during “denazification” process, or whatever happens between defeat and new constitution and elections, more like McArthur in Japan than Adenauer.

Deliberately navigating a drone towards RU borders to be shot down as a result, is a powerful diversion of public attention from huge red panic button being hit by every American in relation to urgent cash withdrawals from failing banking system. How do you stop stamped ? You can not. How do you stop a bank run ? You can not. Approx 42B USD were withdrawn from SVB in 24 hours. What is there to loose in drone value/cost in order to make people stop, turn and recalibrate attention ? Look ! Over there ! Russians are at real shooting war with our jets ! WW3 starting ! The loss of drone is insignificant – the power of attention grab is what matters. The whole US banking sector was at stake, as chain reaction of cash withdrawals went high wire. Only powerful alternative fear would do to people in panic.

Navalny? that’s Hollywood stuff now, smoke. He had a chance, Prigozhin offered a job to all incarcerated patriots but Navalny did not go for it, six months and out, so he has a few years ahead of him sweeping floors, or acquiring sartorial skills, here you have him complaining as usual that his clothing is to small for him, maybe he should don an orange suit and enjoy Metallica for days on end on thousand watts equipment, like Guantanamo, that lovely Caribbean place that everybody forgot about in the land of the free and home of the brave.

That seems more probable, and Prigozhin would be a good choice in my opinion as the image of him running The Borderlands would help cement the ideological defeat of the Nazis. A hardcore socialist would be better, but Prigozhin as governor would be good optics.

Re African IQ
Read How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney. Rodney being the historian executed by CIA. Also the guy who completely changed our understanding of the slave trade by simple expedient of walking in the door at Lloyd’s and asking if they had records of insured cargo. They did. That was sixty years ago. Most historiography still refuses to acknowledge the Lloyd’s information. And that was why Rodney was killed.

Idiot senators in the US now talking about direct intervention. Aside from the bullshit they know they have run out of Ukrainians. Bakhmut. Like shooting fish in a barrel. The west talks about pulling out of Bakhmut. The chef screams no ammo, no ammo. More fish are placed in the barrel. Russia luring the so called west into its own trap.

After the next meeting of the rate, reserves continued to be sent to Bakhmut / Artemovsk. No one had the courage to convince Zelensky that his personal rating is no more than a thousand dead soldiers a week (this is the price of keeping Bakhmut/Artemovsk) – source.
As the source explains, Zelensky and Yermak themselves created a “pit” for themselves with the PR “Fortress Bakhmut”, and now they are forced to sacrifice the lives of soldiers in order to preserve their image.

Our source reports the reasons for the lack of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine:
1. Deficit in warehouses. Production is only being established abroad.
2. Problems with logistics. It takes a long time to travel from abroad.
3. Sometimes the impossibility of delivering ammunition to the line of clash (LB). Delivery takes place by a makeshift method in civilian cars, trucks, medical transport, which goes empty to the front to pick up 200/300, and in return brings BC.
At the same time, a loss occurs very often, since these machines are not protected in any way, and literally everything is shot through there.
According to the source, the delivery formula is as follows for every 100 shells there are 50 “lost” during delivery (2 to 1). About 600-1,600 shells will be used per day in the Bakhmutov meat grinder and nearby in the vicinity, of which 200-600 shells per day can be lost during delivery, not to mention the enemy’s detection of decentralized ammunition depots (this often happens on the front end on both sides).

Another blow for the Office of the President in the case of supporting Ukraine in the West.
As it turned out, after the incident with the “fall” in the Black Sea of an American UAV, Western society began to support the policy of ending the Ukrainian crisis even more strongly, refusing to raise rates and moving towards peace agreements (no one wants a third world war because of the Ukrainian crisis).
Of course, this is a signal that due to the mood in Western society, Ukraine will be given less money and support, which the President’s Office is very afraid of.
The situation with the Oscar for the film about Navalny and the complete disregard for the mention of Ukraine and Zelensky only confirms the rumors about a soft drain.

Ukrainian sources report that Zelensky’s gang decided to defend Artemovsk to the end in order to prevent the loss of such an image city, the value of which they themselves inflated to the skies. Now you have to pay bloody bills for keeping it in the conditions of an operational environment, but political expediency is more important.
The bet is obviously being placed on the fact that while the Wagner will eat up the tough defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the western part of the city, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will accumulate enough forces in the area of Chasov Yar and Rai-Aleksandrovka to go on the counteroffensive and remove the operational encirclement of the city, stabilizing the front.

#53:

Are they [Russia] holding back? If so why?

Russia has more tactical and strategic nukes, but less conventional stuff. It needs to burn as much of NATO’s conventional stock as possible without reducing its own reserves too much. Which is exactly what is happening, as NATO keep sending equipment into the hole.

“Now you’s can’t leave.”
– Sonny, A Bronx Tale
In case USA warlords think they’ll tell Europe to continue fighting in Ukraine so they can sneak out the door to escalate their attacks in Asia, Russia *might* lock the bar door by shooting down some USA-branded merch. It bloodies more USA warlord noses and makes them feel even more embarrassed at the thought of withdrawing. If/when they do withdraw, no one will fear them so much again.
These warlords mistakenly engineered the destruction of their empire by creating a quagmire and stepping in it. RoW might hold them there.
Just one possibility among many.

Apparently I was correct and the drone (reaper) was brought down by Electronic jamming. If they had had time, the Russians would probably have landed it at Sevastopol.

Apologies if a double post. The first is still not showing

Russia released a video of its fighter alongside the downed Reaper. Interestingly, the MQ-9 was equipped with a VERY advanced surveillance system. The Gorgon Stare, as the video confirms.
China, Russia and Iran have had problems in this area, where the US actually has a significant advantage. If Russia recovers the remains of this surveillance system it could be very interesting for study. Recall that the US previously refused to supply the MQ-9 to Ukraine for fear that it would be shot down and the Russians would study it. Not only did this happen, but the downed aircraft was carrying one of NATO’s most advanced surveillance systems.

Despite the sanctions and the expectations of international analysts, the life of Russians has hardly changed over the past year. David McHugh, columnist for The Independent writes about this.
“Western sanctions hit Russian banks, rich people and technology imports. But after a year of far-reaching restrictions aimed at weakening Moscow’s military power, the economic life of ordinary Russians is not much different from what it was before February 2022,” the publication notes. .
In addition, the absence of mass unemployment and a sharp fall in the national currency indicate a stable economic state of the state.
