Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
January 24, 2023
Please Support Moon of Alabama

Dear Reader,

twice a year I ask for your help to keep Moon of Alabama going as it is.

Most readers of this site value our analyses. Some even laud us:

Chomsky: Advanced US Weaponry in Ukraine Is Sustaining Battlefield StalemateTruthout – Dec 22, 2022

Noam Chomsky: What Merkel had in mind we do not know. We do know that there is no basis in the historical or diplomatic record for her claims. I am inclined to agree with the astute commentator who posts under the name “Moon of Alabama.” He points out that “Merkel is under very harsh critique not only in the U.S. but also in her own conservative party. She is now out to justify her previous decisions as well as the current bad outcome in Ukraine. My hunch is that she is making things up. Unfortunately she also creates serious damage.”

He proceeds to a close analysis of the texts to justify this conclusion, which is the most plausible one I’ve seen.

Others are fond of its vivid comment section. I am very proud to host, and nurture it, to the best of my abilities.

This website is a tribute not just to the proprietor but to the idea of democracy. The general conclusions reached here over the past nine months (for example) have consistently outperformed the media, the Academy and the political castes which amount to an incredibly expensive and complex and enormously staffed engine designed -in theory at least- to arrive at a realistic assessment of the situation.

>As for us here at MoA, where you are about ten times more likely to discover what's going on in the world than in any medium of the dominant class- than the New Yorker, The Guardian, BBC or even the favoured forums of the intelligentsia such as the Reviews of Books, The Economist or Foreign Affairs- here, as in a democracy, anyone can contribute. And just about anything which is not totally irrelevant or offensively obscene, is allowed. Every kind of eccentricity is permitted. The voices of communists are in constant struggle with those of fascists, liberals are welcome. Those who hate Russia are heard from. Those who hate Putin are listened to. Those who believe the SMO is a disaster have a forum. But so do those who believe that all is proceeding according to plan.

And there are no qualifications demanded of contributors. There is no literacy requirement, no Academic Degrees or resumes of experience, closeness to power or personal beauty are judged. All that matters is how close the poster comes to the truth, which, in the end, and usually sooner rather than later, is invariably revealed.

That is the way that democracy works – everyone gets to express opinions and they are judged by the minds they change. Or fail to change.

Here are more reasons why you should consider to drop me a dime or whatever you can afford.

I, Bernhard, of course love feedback like the above. Unfortunately I can not just live on it. I also need to pay for food and rent.

This site is the full time effort of one person. There is no other income I can rely on. While I live in somewhat better circumstances than Spitzweg's Poor Poet, I am neither rich nor do I indulge in luxuries.

Every donation to this Poor Poet – be it $5, $50, $500 or more – is welcome and needed. A recurring contribution or sponsorship would be great.

My Pleasure (Paypal 35 Euro). Keep up the good work b.
Many thanks for the (real) information and analysis all these years.

Good analysis is hard to find. Can’t have you starving in a garret! Only a small contribution but will send more. It all adds up. 🙂

Oh come on people, are you really all so broke? With some of the best economic insights in the world right here? I am stuffing envelopes with benjamins for all the best sites! Dispose of it quickly before it’s worthless, right?
More seriously, retirement savings aren’t much use if you’ve just received a lethal dose of radiation. The sheep need an alarm clock before it’s too late, and we are the bell ringers.

Thank you b and all here at Moon of Alabama for your work for your posts, analyses and information’s to overcome the main stream nonsense and get back to a much more realistic path of discussion.
I left most of my web sources behind because of this developement and I’m lucky to see that many of good contribution by person I know from formes sides switches to pages like Moon of Alabama.
So, 50€ from Germany over PayPal will hopefully help a bit, which will be regulary I I see that donation’s will helb you b!
Thanks a lot, keep up the good work, stay healthy througout this more and more harder times!

You’re doing a great job, b, as is everybody who contributes comments here.
Am quite happy to continue my modest monthly donation. I certainly hope it is getting to you and not being absconded by anyone. Checks are clearing.
Just changed my email address so do take note.
Carry on.

50 Euro sent – your efforts are well worth it.

Hi, can you post an XRP or XLM address so I can send you a cryptocurrency donation? (You know, one of those easy, fast and cheap transaction cryptos that actually work😆)

Posted by: SFX\1 | Jan 20 2023 7:30 utc | 108

This website is extraordinary thanks to its free speech policy, its tolerance, its knowledge and actuality and its huge and distinguished international audience which is a result of its long history (20 years or so…). Thanks to b, for keeping this from going under and contributing so much valuable expertise and information. In these times of censorship, MoA is a threatened species and must be preserved and supported.

Paypal kicked us, russkies, off the platform and took the money. Would like to donate in crypto (Monero preferably)

Posted by: russiano | Jan 20 2023 15:36 utc | 110

5 Euro a month. I will double it if there is insufficient support.
This is by far the best site for respectful analysis, consideration of other people’s opinions and overall adulthood. There are always exceptions. We have also seen them here, but rare, much to my satisfaction. Worth some money.
SouthFront and the Saker have been recipients from occasional contributions. I am no fan of any form of audio-visual news (too small a picture into a very large world and talking heads are better read, and faster, than listened to).
Thank you, Bernhard.

In these dark, potentially pre-apocalyptic times, I encourage all regular readers of this valuable, informative site to chip in. Just reading the comments on this blog is refreshing. The ‘worst’ comments on this blog are superior to most main-stream media’s ‘best’ front-page propaganda.

The first link is last night’s PBS news – watch to the end of the first segment – listen to Austen’s and Colin Kahl’s words – then watch the episode of the documentary history I linked.
They’ve lost, again – they know it – they’re going to run away, again – and blame the Germans this time – and stab the Ukrainians – how many times will the US bully repeat History. – Don’t take my word for it – just watch and remember. Everybody but them suffers the death and destruction, again – and they just run back to Rome – until the next time. – How many times will we fall for it.- “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” And the fairies of American “Exceptionalism” keep dancing on others’ graves.

I didn’t contribute since the time b went with the perpetrators on the covid and gene therapy atrocity. However I think that notwithstanding this error as I see it, b’s work is still worth supporting for the rest of his excellent analysis.
So, thank you b and I hope that one day you will see how big was the greatest crime against humanity ever, even if you don’t actually cover it in the blog as a subject you wish to discuss.
My contribution is on its way, thanks.

I have been pondering the idea that many of the weapons sent to Ukraine, that mysteriously never show up. Are they being diverted somewhere else, possible for a different purpose? Maybe for preparations for a china offensive/defensive, as now would be the time, all eyes on Ukraine and no alarms ring with big weapon movements? Just wanted to hear other thoughts.

the restrictions and your view on the Covid19 event over all are simply unacceptable for me as a working class person.
We all only support whatever is advantageous to us as ‘working class heroes’? Or someone who reports events given the necessary uncertainty factor of unprecedented events to the best of his/her knowledge and conscience?
Recently I noticed that Bernhard may (still?) be banished on Turcopolier (the earlier sic semper tyrannis). A commenter received a warning for even mentioning his blog or name.
That’s how he should be handled? You are still around? Why don’t you move on to your preferred grazing grounds?
Full discovery, a lot of close friends, the best old classmates, even family are in the anti-vax, anti-masque pr skeptic scene. But while Ron Unz usually is wide open to any (old/new right?) dissenting views, he was pretty close to b. Although I do not pretend I followed either him or Unz.com closely on matters.

This statement is why I used to have a lot of respect for Noam Chomsky (NC) but not so much anymore
Ed@99
Yeah, also the linked article talks about Putin’s “twisted mind” and how Russia expected to occupy Kiev in a couple of days.
I used to have a lot of respect for Noam before his anti-Assad and Russophobic comments.

@B
Paypalled you in the end €100
Should have transferred it to save fees but I’m too busy working earning a living to take any more time here than I do.
Suggest you paywall.
It would do 2 things,
1 clear out the trolls
2 clear out ten cheapskates – if you can’t contribute the cost of a coffee or a beer, what are you doing in real life that means there’s any value to your opinion anyway. Jack shit probably.
It’s worth at least €5 a month if you contribute. Probably €1 if you just read and don’t contribute. You’ve reached the critical mass a male space needs. Implement it. Those that contribute will pay.
You need to clear out the “I can’t contribute Jack shit because I’m soooooo poor” merchants. I repeat they need to fuck off on the gay horse they rode in on.

I will experiment with bank transfer. So far, I did not hear about banks blocking transfers to countries not under sanctions (so far, Germany is not), so it is the safest method for now. To reduce transaction costs, I will make a planned donation for the full year.

I guess Poor Poet is exposed to inflation. When I get instructions, I will made a payment for a year equal to the current cost of 365 eggs in my supermarket. Two years ago that would be about 40 USDs, surely below 50.
BTW, isn’t it idiotic to buy vegetarian substitutes for meat, and in the near future, eggs? There are perfectly good recipes that avoid meat and egg, healthier and cheaper.

OK, I’ve been a lurker/observer, sitting in my quiet corner of the bar, since roughly June/22, and conclude beyond any doubt, that you, b, and the forum you provide, are of the highest calibre regarding analysis/interpretation of global “events” unfolding!!
Considering the “depth” of more than a few regular contributors/commentators, I am content to remain in an ill-lit, quiet corner of the bar, absorbing, until I’ve consumed enough of my poison-of-choice. Upon which, I may leap onto a nearby table to spew my opinions, to be informed of their relative merit …

Yes, MoonOfAlabama is correct that Angela Merkel isn’t telling the truth. She says she didn’t support Minsk 2 simply because today it’s anathema to say that you ever wanted to talk to Russia.
(Just like it’s not anathema to say you have supported cooperation with the large biomedical institute in Wuhan. If you’re a leftist, you don’t want it mentioned that Fauci worked with them. If you’re in the GOP, it’s forbidden to say that Trump loosened the rules so that Fauci could work with them. Both sides are ridiculous: It’s one of the world’s top research institutes regarding viruses, and no, we’re not living in a Stephen King novel where a virus “escapes from the lab”, no matter what demonstrably false claims Tucker Carlson has allowed on his show.)
STALEMATE – it seems Chomsky is actually using the word truthfully here. But most of the time when people “warn against stalemate” in Ukraine at this point, what they really mean is that Russia is winning. But again – that’s something you’re not allowed to say. So they talk about “stalemate” instead. But it’s not a stalemate when one side keeps mowing down the other side and taking more territory.

Hey B,
MOA is a part of the routine at our house. At the end of the work day, I arrive at home, tired from dealing with people, the system and the world, whereupon, my dog gives me a war hero’s welcome for successfully surviving my day and coming home again. I remove my shoes, wash my hands and face, hug my husband and ask, ‘Did the world blow up?’ He makes the relevant replies and then I ask, ‘well, yeah but what did Moon say?’ My greatest character flaw is being a morning person, so the routine flips on weekends (Monday and Tuesday for us). I get up, make coffee, check to see if the world has blown up, and then catch up on stuff I missed during the week. Hours later, my husband (and later still the dog) will stumble out of the fog of sleep, scowling at the daylight, yawning and blinking. After enough coffee he will ask, ‘did the world blow up?’ I then make the relevant replies, and then he asks, ‘well, yeah, but what did Moon say?’ Thank you for the quality insight and analysis. Thank you for sticking with the site and not selling out or giving up. Thank you for being such a consistent contributor to my personal quality of life, but also for all you do to keep hope alive in this community. The amount of my donation is not a reflection of the value of your work, however, it is sadly representative of the realities that your commentary and perspective routinely highlight. Please keep up the struggle, we are with you.

I am not certain Mrs. Baerbock realizes what she has done. A member of the German government says “We are at war with Russia”, together with the image of German tanks rolling eastward over the Ukrainian plain – after this, few Russians will criticize Putin. To the contrary, they will praise his good foresight.
@Posted by: Passerby | Jan 25 2023 21:30 utc | 128
Surely not knowing what she has said…slip of not engaging mind before exercising mouth. Made public that which has been a whisper at the water cooler…the truth is as a US led-NATO member, Germany is participating in the conflict by sheer membership in the Alliance.

As for how long the Ukies hold out?
It’s “for how long will Uncle Sam hang tight to his tar baby?”
The Federal Reserve guys and gals are now boxed.
Uncle Sam’s IOUs will be declined like a maxxed out credit card – and sooner than 18 – courtesy of Xi and MbS.
De-dollarization will affect credit on U.S. mainland.
Just imagine the number of credit supplied between the farmer and our groceries. At least 10 entities, if one fails.
Watch Credit. When credit lines breaks, everything comes to a screeching stop. Credit is poorly understood. Credit is being contracted and the UKR war is a great cover- but not for long.
When the credit system fails not just banks but insurance companies and pension funds will be affected. The figure is in multi-trillions.
