Yes, there seems to be more certainty with what’s to come in 2023 than what was occupying our minds one year ago. However, I do think it wise to awaken with a clear mind, so don’t imbibe too much while you watch the old exit and the new enter!

May 2023 be Jubilee Of Understanding.
News from all sectors of the planet is demonstrating high levels of inter-nation hostilities and stated intentions to cause death and destruction of whole nations. That includes attacks on vital infrastructures and whole populations.
NS 2 energy transport explosions
Destruction of international financial systems to transact trade
Attempts to blow-up another nation’s currency and economic system
Withholding access to another nation’s banking deposits
Fake claims of “neutrality”
[Not-so-] secret military actions across borders by “non-involved” nations
Repositioning of nuclear-armed forces toward 1st-strike positioning
Beginning use of Artificial Intelligence in decision-making for war
Actual use of AI=drones to attack across borders
Construction of nuclear-armed drones capable of crossing borders
Deliberate insults and other provocations hurled by national leaders against one another. Etc.
Doesn’t this mean non-nuclear WW3 has already started ?
Doesn’t this mean The Crazies are willing to go NUCLEAR rather than give-up their “elite” privileges to rule others they have depended on for centuries?
Can it be?… that The Crazies’ religions really do justify their intentions…because their alleged “Gods” will warmly congratulate and take care of them?…so their “deaths” are not really deaths?
I am asking for some friends who are not so privileged.
Make 2023 the Jubilee Year of Understanding.

Happy New Year b and other barflys
I keep flashing on some sort of message from the posting title of “Slide safely. don’t fall into the new year”…..
The only thing that comes to me is the Paul Simon song Slip Sliding Away that tells what can happen if we don’t live deliberately. Drifting is just existing, coasting along without purpose or direction. Even if we have a desire, dream or purpose, we spend most of our time not working towards our dreams.
I think 2023 will be a very deliberate year for the well intentioned in our world……no falling into it

In Philadelphia, we celebrate the New Year with the Mummers’ Day Parade. … It is America’s oldest tradition (since 1641) when the Swedes settled the banks of the Delaware River. … Mummer is a disguiser on the street who puts on a play during the 12 days of Christmas. … In the 19th century, minstrel banjo ‘string bands’ formed and a cavalcade became a parade.
Interestingly, back in 1999, the Quaker City String Band did a theme called ‘Reflections of Old Moscow’. It was really done well. … See minstrel strumming banjos doing the Katusha … Mother Ginger with a St. George Ribbon … Tschikovsky swans … and a superb walk-off jazz strut of ‘Midnight in Moscow’.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vi7BLvOQ3O8
Paradoxically, I found this gem from the Mummers’ archive. … Ukrainian-American String Band in 1981 did a theme called ‘The Spirit of the Ukrainian Cossacks’. … Watch as the band captain comes out front and slips onto his back. With the huge ‘Trident Backpiece’ he struggles like a tortoise stuck on his shell to try and get up. … It is hilarious! (and perhaps metaphorically prophetic of Ukrainian nationalism from 4 decades ago):

Happy New Year to all MoA barflies and lurkers in 2023!
While it’s perhaps too much to hope or expect that saloon fights here will be less than in the past couple years, at least let’s strive for more entertaining (and informative!) brawling.
As the rest of the world was mourning the deaths of footballer Pele and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood on 29 December 2022, two other significant cultural figures (in their own way, and maybe not to everyone’s taste here) also died that day: Russian electronic music composer Edward Artemyev, who scored the music for the Andre Tarkovsky films “Solaris” and “Stalker” among many other films he wrote music for; and Italian film director Ruggero Deodato, notorious for directing “Cannibal Holocaust” which, beneath the excessive violence and the unnecessary killing of animals used in the film, was a satire on sensationalism in the media and its usefulness in the creation of false narratives and propaganda about other cultures and peoples for corporate profit.
For those who have not seen “Cannibal Holocaust” because it is banned in your countries (it has been so in Australia since 1980), it is a “film within a film”: an anthropologist is tasked by a media organisation to search for a film crew who went missing in the Amazon region while making a documentary about the Yanomamo people. The anthropologist goes there and retrieves the remains of film equipment and film tapes. Back in the US, the anthropologist shows the media people the film. The film turns out to be a gross distortion of the lives and culture of the Yanomamo people, playing on stereotypes about their savagery. The Yanomamo themselves get fed up with the film-makers and their antics (which include deliberately burning down a hut with people inside) and punish them. The Yanomamo seize the film equipment and film what they do to the crew. The anthropologist and his audience recognise the film to be a warning of what the Yanomamo will do to people who abuse them and agree not to release the film.
Ironically Deodato’s own career was overshadowed by this film so much so that other films he made rode on the notoriety of “Cannibal Holocaust”. Other directors joined the bandwagon, and a genre of cheap and nasty Italian cannibal films appeared for a brief time. “Cannibal Holocaust” doesn’t have good acting or much of a plot, and the level of violence is insane – I have seen about 2/3 of it but the cheap home-made tape that a friend made of the film was short and another film was crammed onto it – but the themes are actually very clear.

Putin’s TV address (by MSK time one) feels a “popular war, holy war” in anything but wording. Kinda troubling.
He also is a bit coughing, which is normal for winter among commoners, but not typical for a usual “talking head on TV”.

The ending was different, too.
Typical, almost ritual finishing phrase is “(Congratulate you) With New Year, With New Happiness!”
The last part was skipped.
“…fighting on the beaches”?
Also, he mentioned “gaining full sovereignity” as a result of 2022.

I haven’t checked if this latest video from Graham Philips has been posted here or not but if you haven’t heard of “Lyuda”‘s poem that she recited to Philips, you should (in the middle of the video). Maybe it was all arranged, maybe it was a totally spontaneous meeting as it seems in the video. Anyway, its a good poem to hear, especially for the New Year.

A New Year’s message of hope:
From Olaf Stapledon’s *Star Maker*, written in 1938 on the eve of WW2. For those of us who read science fiction this is a deep and unsung classic…
***
The whole planet, the whole rock-grain, with its busy swarms, I now saw as an arena where two cosmical antagonists, two spirits, were already preparing for a critical struggle, already assuming terrestrial and local guise, and coming to grips in our half-awakened minds. In city upon city, in village after village, and in innumerable lonely farmsteads, cottages, hovels, shacks, huts, and all the crevices where human creatures were intent on their own little comforts and triumphs and escapes, the great struggle of our age was brewing.
One antagonist appeared as the will to dare for the sake of the new, the longed for, the reasonable and joyful world, in which every man and woman may have scope to live fully, and live in service of mankind. The other seemed essentially the myopic fear of the unknown; or was it more sinister? Was it the cunning will for private mastery, which fomented for its own ends the archaic, reason-hating, and vindictive, passion of the tribe.
It seemed that in the coming storm all the dearest things must be destroyed. All private happiness, all loving, all creative work in art, science, and philosophy, all intellectual scrutiny and speculative imagination, and all creative social building; all, indeed, that man should normally live for, seemed folly and mockery and mere self-indulgence in the presence of public calamity. But if we failed to preserve them, when would they live again?
How to face such an age? How to muster courage, being capable only of homely virtues? How to do this, yet preserve the mind’s integrity, never to let the struggle destroy in one’s own heart what one tried to serve in the world, the spirit’s integrity?
Two lights for guidance. The first, our little glowing atom of community, with all that it signifies. The second, the cold light of the stars, symbol of the hypercosmical reality, with its crystal ecstasy. Strange that in this light, in which even the dearest love is frostily assessed, and even the possible defeat of our half-waking world is contemplated without remission of praise, the human crisis does not lose but gains significance. Strange, that it seems more, not less, urgent to play some part in this struggle, this brief effort of animalcules striving to win for their race some increase of lucidity before the ultimate darkness.

Starting on pizza number two! Next up: Shinobi No Mono 5 – Return Of Mist Saizo (1964)! Classic ninja movie, part of a series
Shinobi no Mono
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinobi_no_Mono
As described on Amazon:

Considered by many critics to be the best and most realistic films about the ninja, the Shinobi no Mono saga spans the turbulent years of 1573-1615 and tells the story of the ninja who lurked behind the scenes while warlords strived for power. In one of his most famous performances, the iconic Raizo ICHIKAWA portrays two famous ninja (ISHIKAWA Goemon and KIRIGAKURE Saizo), each one with his own agenda, each one with a dark past and no certain future.

Happy New Year to our host and all the patrons here!
May this hangout prosper in 2023 too.

Not to rain on your parade, b, but that pic you posted here looks a lot like a phosphorus explosion. So please tell me I’m wrong about that!

Happy New Year to you, b, and all the contributors here!
Though I post infrequently — I rarely have anything to add to b’s erudite analyses or the (largely) commendable commentaries that accompany them — I vastly appreciate this forum. As someone else relayed already, MOA is a shining light in the darkness.
Many thanks, b!

This is an auspicious beginning to 2023 and portends a similar fate for the American colonizers and their allied war criminals around the world!
