The operational and tactical situation in Avdiivka.
Over the past month, the Russian Armed Forces, Sparta, and other units have been storming Pervomayske, Opytne, and Vodyane southwest of Avdiivka.
As of today, Peski and Opytne are completely under our control and the situation there has been stabilized.
Vodyanoye, Pervomaiskoye, and Nevelskoye are still under the enemy and are being stormed and consolidated in these settlements.
On the line Nevelskoye-Vodyanoye, the Russian Armed Forces are breaking through the resistance of the AFU in the direction of Severnoye, Tonenkoye, and Orlovka, to enter the flanks from the west of Avdeevka.
On the Krasnogorovka-Veseloye-Kamianka line, the Russian Federation forces broke through a stronghold in Kamianka, and troops entrenched along the Avdeevka-Kramatorsk road section.
In addition, the Russian Armed Forces have confirmed their operational success in leveling the Ugledar bridgehead along the Ugledar-Maryinka route. There has been an advance deep into the enemy defense to the line Ugledar-Konstantinovka-Pobeda-Maryinka.
In general, the situation on the front has a consolidating character and is aimed at eliminating the unequal distribution of the enemy’s troops along the front to concentrate his forces for the main strike in the chosen direction.
Also yesterday, during reconnaissance activities, the area of the enemy’s forces and equipment concentration on the Zaporizhzhia front (Orekhov) near Nesterianka-Novodanilovka was revealed.

Great stuff, thank you very much for putting some meat on those bones, what you say accords with my layman’s impression of the UK’s relative energy / electricity security and your reminder of other issues still in the air after Brexit seems highly prescient.
Likewise your conjecture on the possibility of the US “helping out” with a little sanctions relief if things get hairy. Where to start, we really shouldn’t laugh, perhaps they could repair NS and unsink Felicity Ace while they’re at it.
Priming UK citizenry for electricity rationing doesn’t appear to fit within a good faith interpretation of the fundamentals.
Much appreciated, thanks again.

The tide is turning against Zelensky. The Polish missile incident definitely dented his credibility. But it is not irreparable.
He’s been portrayed as the defender of Western civilisation against the Asiatic hordes. The last defence of democracy and freedom and tyranny.
Then his own generals kill him? Not happening. Will destroy the whole narrative.

If it were done under the current NS2 contract its possible that its price would apply, dramatically cutting Russia’s revenue compared to spot. Win Win for the US, heroes to the Germans plus cutting Russian profits.

A coup doesn’t necessarily require the application of extreme prejudice. Given he’s a known cocaine-head, an appropriate injection through his nasal passages while he’s sleeping, to induce a stroke would do the job. And no, I am not, a psycho nutjob. Honorable retirement to a care facility, & evermore honored as the ‘New Churchill’.
Perfidious Albion could be called upon, their home grown Novichok (UK) brand, via Porton Down, is demonstrably hands down the least lethal, lethal nerve agent ever developed.

Map showing Ukrop losses by Oblast based on social media – total 101,431 reported (does not include the missing) – unusually heavy in Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhitomir and particularly Transcarpathia , unusually light in most of Western Ukraine

Appears to be Globally accessible Military enthusiasts/hobbyists focused on war materiel & light war porn, hosted in RF(RU)
TL&DR AFU military ceased to exist long ago …
Conclusion: AFU became Combat & Operationally/Tactically ineffective as an organized functional military force ~5 months ago.
Scratch calcs, common Mil assumptions, adjusted for nature of conflict.
That figure is definitely in the ball-park given other refs previous.
However, that is KIA only, Excluding WIA & MIA.
So more realistic figure re AFU now no longer combatants is:
~100,000+ KIA, ~300,000(WIA)(long accepted typical ratio KIA v WIA is 1:3) + unkown MIA = ~400,000+(minimum) attritted, no longer combat capable.
However, the AFU is apparently suffering somewhere like ~70% consequent KIA re initial WIA, ’cause factors such extreme lethality of fires, dead or severely wounded, few lightly wounded or unscathed. Collapsed Mil Medical system, No Medivac, only delayed & slow via veh, then overwhelmed rear area Medical facilities. Likely desperately short of supplies. So, what percentage of initially WIA transition to KIA ?
Missing ? Well documented AFU routinely habitually abandons its KIA on the battlefield & records as MIA, or not at all. Combination of contempt, Bandera-Nazi pagan beliefs re ascending to Valhalla, & utter venal corruption Battalion level Commanders and/or HQ Staff collect non MIA Soldat Pay, using collected paybooks re abandoned KIA … abhorrent rort …
So, real Figure, possibly ~100,000 KIA + 210,000 WIA + 90,000+(WIA>KIA) + ~30,000+ MiA>KIA = ~430,000+ Now Non combatants. Conservative.
AFU started with ~600,000 troops, subsequent conscripted are largely irrelevant as untrained, poorly equipped, unfit, low morale. Hence minimal combat effectiveness. Volksturm.
Note that is ~71%+ total casualties !
Any military force that suffers more than ~20-30%+ casualties is considered nob-effective.
Of the ~71% casualties an exceedingly high proportion will be junior NCOs & Junior officers(Tactical) KIA/WIA, out of all proportion to the average loss rate(WWI combat conditions).
This means Junior NCOS/Officers KIA at typically ~400% rate of the grunts in this kind of sustained high intensity combined arms op at scale, re WWI operations(Trenches/bunkers/fixed positional warfare/massive scale artillery/rocket barrages).
So, 4 x NCO & Officers have been killed & replaced one after another by untrained, inexperienced replacements in ~71% + of All original AFU formations, for every original Junior NCO/Officer.
Result.
Low competency ineffective incapable tactical leaders NOT leading low morale Volksturm. OTTOMH.
YMMV

Priming UK citizenry for electricity rationing doesn’t appear to fit within a good faith interpretation of the fundamentals.

Revolutions happen during eras of rising expectations, it’s not the hopeless who rebel it’s people who believe that tomorrow can be better than today and are motivated by hope. Surprisingly, revolutions happen during times of rising economic gains.
The entire neoliberal era has been characterized by systemic austerity and the designed-in lowered expectations with the hopelessness, ennui, and anomie that it instills throughout the culture and society. It’s the principle reason there are no anti-war movements and little worker protest to be seen.
Unless of course things crash and hit rock bottom where the governing authorities loose all legitimacy and the associated authority as happened in Russia after WW1.
My guess UK and maybe Germany are harping on about blackouts as rebellion control, to lower expectations. If a man is convinced he won’t even have half a loaf of bread tomorrow and you then give him one he’ll be grateful.

This is a larger problem to be faced when Russia eventually ends this and Ukraine (or whatever is left of it) capitulates. The entire country has become massively Russia-phobic and now the western countries as well although this is not a “new” phenomenon but rather re-invigorated. Being anti-communist doesn’t cut it anymore. Much of Europe is and has been rabid Russia-Phobic for centuries. It is anyone’s gausses how the western MSM can spin this in their favor. I am certain it will happen and the populace will become even more Russian-Phobic.
As for what the delay, I think many, even here, do not fully comprehend the depths Russia has risen from under Putin’s leadership and the rat’s nest of oligarchs and American agents (5th columnists) that had to be weeded out from the government. The military was in shambles. I recall we had a Russian major in my command and general staff college class at Ft. Leavenworth who I befriended. he told me wild tales that most of their time was spent growing crops to eat as they were no longer being paid and no food was available. That was back in 1991 and it only got worse from there.
The Chechen war and later the Georgian aggression clearly showed how the Army had deteriorated. I believe at that point following 2008, Russia began to rebuild its military. It took a long time to move from a conscription military to a mostly volunteer (paid) force. A lot had to change and all during this time NATO kept creeping slowly toward the Russian borders. Most also fail to understand that in the Soviet military there are no professional non-commissioned officers (NCOs) but rather these were privates promoted from a particular recruitment year because of being bigger or meaner than the others. This has changed for the better. It used to be only officers were taught particular skills but now NCOs are slowly taking over these kinds of duties.
The other BIG point that no one mentions is that 85% of the Regular forces are still located at their normal duty stations inside Russia. The mobilization forces (300,000) are all reserves. I believe the main force is kept as a deterrent against a real war with NATO and once NATO commits then we will see the full might deployed. I am sure the leaders in the west are fully appraised of the risks.
I read yesterday that 320,000 mothers in Ukraine are demanding answers from the Ukrainian government as to what happened to their children. I suspect that they are all dead and that the real number of dead Ukrainians is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400,000 and the war is really still in the opening phases. If I am right then Russia will steamroll its way through Ukraine with little meaningful resistance. The only limitation will be logistics. Militaries cannot ravel all that fast so it will take at least a month to control all of Ukraine (except Kyiv) once the pockets of resistance are dealt with.
That leaves the big question as to what NATO does in response. I also believe that Russia was frantically building weapons systems that could be able to match and defeat NATO and in particular, now has nuclear weapons systems that the west cannot defend against. Should NATO decide to risk it all I also believe we will see the Kinzhals used against places like Ramstein, NATO HQ, all military bases in the UK, etc. All military cargo and AWAC’s planes will be shot down before reaching Europe and I also expect them to either destroy or blind all western military AND civilian (dual-use) satellites. I am sure the western leaders know this but perhaps they really are stupid or insane enough to believe their own propaganda.
Time will tell

This obsessional neurosis expecting something “to end”. Is it is peculiarity of modern man that expects everything to be a game of two halves with Pepsi or Bud franchise in the interval ?
Have you ever heard of The Hundred Years War 1337-1453 ?
Or the Thirty Years War 1618-1648 ?
Did you know how the treaty of Westphalia 1648 set the basis of Foreign Policy for centuries until USA decided it was not accordant with Hegemonistic Weltanschauung ?
Ukraine is simply the battlefield. It has no other function.
It is the “stadium” – the “Colisseum” where the killing takes place
The real war is for Europe and whether Europe is under US Hegemony or pursues independent policies in a Multipolar World – either as nation states or as some Euro grouping successor to EU which is now little more than NATO
This conflict is defining and may go on for 40 years. After all UK and US were running Bandera terror cells in Ukraine long after 1950 and cultivating them in safe harbours in Canada, US and UK
This is not a conflict – it is a Culture War

Excellent prepared Post. Thank you.
The Chechen war and later the Georgian aggression clearly showed how the Army had deteriorated. I believe at that point following 2008, Russia began to rebuild its military.
Same viewpoint, concur. Strategic prep that led to today commenced post US/NATO instigation of Georgian attack on RF ’08. Also commenced alignment/alliances (covert) with China/Iran and co-operative joint planning development to get to today re pre-emptive Op Feb2422. Same re extensive joint soft power/diplomatic engagement/support ops re Rest of World (RoW) re opposing the Golden Billion, Empire, since ’08.
Routinely post re these exact same points …
Final two paras, yes & yes. Fully concur.

Why do people keep repeating this 85% number??!
This is nonsense. 85% of armed forces personnel are admin, logistics, Air Force, navy, etc. NOT “trigger pullers” in the ground forces.
Furthermore, corruption has lead to RU command overcounting the manpower they do have, in some cases 50%, most likely 30% overall. “Dead Souls”
There is a reasonably sized force to guard borders and man air defense in Russia itself, lets say 150k, it’s a big country. They are not really available for redeployment.
Half the contract soldiers quit in August! No-one to replace them!
Not very patriotic!
No credible source for this “85%” figure! Very misleading! “Mobiks” are to shore up very weak and thin defensive lines! Barely enough to do even that.
People here are engaged in wishful thinking.
Many mobiks are already on front lines. Prayers to them.

It is anyone’s gausses how the western MSM can spin this in their favor. I am certain it will happen and the populace will become even more Russian-Phobic.

When nothing is real anymore anything is possible, there’s no flip side to wall to wall bullshit, nothing that needs to be unwound, you just pull the leash and people will follow you in whatever direction you take them, they won’t even remember where you took them yesterday. What’s that globohomo cartoon making the rounds, “I believe the new thing!”
I used to believe people were smarter than the moronic narrative they are trapped in, I still I believe it but much less. When the time comes the propaganda can switch to “The New Thing” – “the treacherous bastards fooled us all” and Ukraine is “revealed” to have been a runaway mafia state, Zelensky an avowed drug addict and fraud, billions upon billions of western tax payers money stolen, western leaders bamboozled, criminal unpardonable negligence to their own soldiers murdered in the hundreds of thousands, thousands left in the mud and missing in action, the Ukrainian people are turning against their government, etc etc, and that sanctions must be revisited with a certain discretion, and the Russians while still evil were only 50% in the wrong. It won’t happen, but it’s easy-peasy if needed.

That leaves the big question as to what NATO does in response. I also believe that Russia was frantically building weapons systems that could be able to match and defeat NATO and in particular, now has nuclear weapons systems that the west cannot defend against.

They never could defend against Russian nuclear missiles even the very old non hypersonic ones, even if you intercept 90% of the RF MIRVed warheads you still have hundreds of H-Bombs going off across US and EU, and the Star Wars thing was always a complete MIC hoax and grift, interception rate is probably not even 10%. Past western leaders at least didn’t believe their own bullshit but it seems the present ones do. I hope not.
The new Russian systems are for the next 50ys when interception might reach 90%. But for now, “We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know we’ll meet again some sunny day…”

Rubbish false histrionics. All absolute BS.
Regular available RF forces, excluding Rosguardia, LPR/DPR, Chechen volunteers, PMC, leaves ~85%+ regular forces in reserve on defensive alert inside RF/Belarus borders. ~10-15% of 2nd rate unit formations were initially deployed with older equipment, prior to 1% mobilization (~300,000). Further, available reserves re mobilization now tested/fine-tuned re absolute minimum of ~4,700,000 who have served 1 year in last five years(young fit healthy). Total reserve mobilization minimum reserve of further ~24,700,000+.
The figures readily accessible. You are deliberately obtuse & deliberately misrepresenting demonstrable data/known facts.
Why did I bother …

Consider the polls re Zelensky election on a peace platform of (IIRC) correctly ~91%. The Nazi’s who control the institutions & their on the ground thugs actually only comprise ~5% of population at best Feb2422.
Siege/contain major cities/towns post defeat in detail of AFU remnant military and in the towns and cities in current situ populace will mob lynch the Banderists and retake control themselves. Merely the families of the deceased, missing & permanently seriously maimed outnumber the true Banderists hardcore massively.
NATO/US has essentially done effectively zero to prepare for conventional high intensity war in EU prior to and since Feb2422. There is a fundamental disparity in force sizes, capabilities, capacities, logistics and demonstrable combat power between US/NATO vs RF/Belarus in EU theater. and a hardcore & distributed % of all RF are now combat Veteran/Elite status given last 10 months.
Nukes use by US appear to be bluff & bluster given the cupboard is bare. IMV.
The true purpose of the military conflict is a steel bear-trap in which Empire has been entrapped & cannot escape without massive soft/hard power damage. Stated previously is also as seen daily to economically drain Empire, and attrit it’s war materiel, especially consumables,ie Ordnance, & war reserve stocks. Whilst encouraging the RoW and providing cover to stand up Geopolitically & more against Empire.
Empire has no offramp, the Strategic initiative and dominance is in RF hands, hence serially decried … hang’em slowly.

This Italian* military analysis site reporter had a chance to visit a Russian training camp. He doesn’t appear particularly impressed, and suggests the offensive is not likely to begin any time before next February. As far as Western news sites, i found it to be quite neutral and at times even sympathetic towards Moscow, relatively speaking.

The RF seems to be under bombardment here by hindsight howitzers Mk 1. It may be a sign of age but I’ve been under the impression that Putin was welcomed as Russian leader by the corp-0-rat media and state broadcaster in Britain until he began to re-establish Russian sovereignty, at which the media did a reverse ferret and has been damning him ever since. It also seems to me that the Russians have trod very carefully to prepare to defend themselves without provoking the Seppoes too much. Intervening in the Ukraine civil war to me is the moment when the Russians oppose American Caesar whatever the consequences, knowing that they were as prepared as they could ever be. What are being criticised as half-measures now are unprecedented acts of resistance against the Seppoes. What the Russians do next is the important thing.

It’s very snide, sarcastic, not objective, filled with narrative tropes, got halfway and gave up.
He’d spent maybe two paragraphs in toto re the actual troop training and was seriously slanted & dismissive/biased. Does not comprehend reserve soldiers who have served for one year or more only require refresher training, not a repeat in detail of boot camp. The purpose of their training in this situ is to focus on transfer of knowledge experience re REAL World current combat and imprint lessons learned idiosyncrasies of battlespace along with practical as real as practicable tac exs with explosions live fire in vicinity to condition re routine FEBA environment. Describes huge quantities of abandoned stores & armaments re multiple RF retreats, repeatedly refers to successful tactical withdrawal across Dnieper river crossing whilst in contact under fire as embarrassing retreat, politically/militarily.
Though if enough interested can post an accurate full translation …

Europe rushes to fill up on Russian diesel before ban begins
European traders are rushing to fill tanks in the region with Russian diesel before an EU ban begins in February, as alternative sources remain limited.
The European Union will ban Russian oil product imports, on which it relies heavily for its diesel, by Feb. 5. That will follow a ban on Russian crude taking effect in December.
With few immediate cost-effective alternatives, diesel from Russia has made up 44% of Europe’s total imports of the road fuel so far in November, compared with 39% in October, Refinitiv data shows.

Actually, except for the US, nukes are no longer relevant. The hypersonics as we saw near Lyviv, do a shocking amount of damage on their own just by their kinetics and conventional warheads. A few strikes on US bases will put them out of commission.
Another interesting issue is that US aircraft REQUIRE very clean and pristine runways. Every day on every US bases the staff walk the runways picking up tiny debris so they don’t destroy the very fragile engines. Russian aircraft, have screens on the intakes to prevent this and can operate on very dirty fields. So, minor bomb damage to a US runway puts it out of commission perhaps for weeks. Also, Russian aircraft are armed whereas US ones aren’t. I flew UH-1H’s and we had our flak vests and that is it. Nothing has changed since. I am friends with a bunch of former Soviet MI-24 Pilots (here in Hungary where I live) who are amazed at just how fragile our aircraft are in comparison. Those things are beasts and can carry troops and regular attack armament (less fuel). The US has had open contract competitions for years that have gone unfulfilled which basically gives the requirements the same as the MI-24 had.
I’ll add another issue that goes unmentioned. US forces have a ton of support assets that cannot be operated in combat conditions. I will add the M1 tanks to that list as it requires JP4 fuel. That fuel is going to be very scarce and in competition with aviation assets. In theater, it is a contest of who gets this very precious and limited asset. I was placed in Corps OPS planning for Theater Medical assets (operational exercises) and all US combat support hospitals have turbine generators that require 10,000 gallons of JP4 each per day and a typical hospital setup runs 4 of these turbine generators a day. The first thing that happens is no fuel for hospitals and then no fuel for tanks. It is that simple. But, the idiots in charge keep making these stupid decisions on equipment choices. If air support is not guaranteed then no fuel is coming in as normally it is offloaded from cargo transports like C-130’s or C-17’s leaving them just enough to get to a refueling point.
The Russians assume no air superiority and operate as if that were fact. They also don’t build these ridiculous support setups that require heavy logistical support. Another thing I got handed in one exercise is the Corps commander declared all wounded dead thus eliminating any medical requirements for logistics. It saved an enormous headache. I think the Russians and Ukrainians understand this very well and operate accordingly. The US assumes absolute air dominance and cannot operate without it at all. So, there is the real issue in a nutshell. Take away the air resupply and the US military is hamstrung.
I’ll go on with regard to training. The effective soldier is one who is mentally prepared to fight. Tactical training is important and basic squad levels of operations are enough for most. The larger tactical stuff is planned for and trained to death but in war, all plans go to shit on the first shot. It is a nimble and prepared force that can respond to these constant changes. I’ll digress a bit to consider exactly who is actually fighting and how effective they are. In US wars roughly 80% either never fire their weapon of don’t actually aim at anyone. Most do the spray-and-pray method and deplete their ammunition quickly showing they actually fought. of the 20% that actually fight half are “heroes” and the other half are psychopaths. I was involved in some molecular modeling of PTSD where we dug into the weeds about why this is happening and now getting worse. The statistics vary and the numbers shift to even worse. With the western thought processes being indoctrinated now I think there are even fewer “heroes” now. I wonder how many will cut and run when faced with imminent death.

Don’t know for sure but I can hazard a guess. Western Ukraine? Highest percentage of Galicians,Nazis and connected-types this cashed- up and relatively more educated.
Most of their men fled or had already left before the war started ;because they were more educated,Western and /or Rich.
Those left are the ones most likely to have positions in admin ; as we know the Banderists were given choice positions. So away from the battlefield! All in Kiev or are seeing-out the war in offices liasing with NATO or the EU. The white-collar types like Melnyk who has his son studying in Germany for example.
The rest who didn’t flee or have cushy jobs? Well they likely form the punisher battalions pushing Polish volunteers or Eastern Ukrainians or unconnected types into the hail of bullets, or are there to shoot deserters. Either way these mongrels are well away from the shots fired in anger so also don’t get the casualties.
So the above may explain why the loud-mouth Galicians or Western Ukrainians surprisingly enjoy the lowest casualties.

Statistics widely available. Come on. Do some basic maths. If 85% of combat deployable RF ground forces are just sitting around in their barracks in Russia then why on earth would RF have to DRAFT 300k mobiks??
If 150k contract soldiers are in Ukraine – and you say this is only 15% of forces that could be committed – that leaves 850k regular soldiers sitting around.
But Putin cannot commit 35% of his forces inside Russia – who according to you are combat ready and just waiting for orders – to Ukraine to finish the war? Why? Is he expecting China to invade??
Russia proper is under a nuclear shield, NATO are not going to wage WW3 and try to invade Russia over a few eastern Ukrainian oblasts.
The reality is that RU army has a huge manpower problem. There is no fat to trim from the civilian economy; Russia is at full employment with an ageing population.
These mobiks all had jobs in the civilian economy.
Young people don’t see why they should be sent to die for a war only important to ex-Soviet boomers past their retirement age. They would rather fuck, go on holiday in the West, and have nice consumer goods from China. Just look at the polls…
Ukrainians are happy to suicide their population as they see the irresistible lure of joining the advanced, world-spanning, dominant empire and being on the “winning team”.
IMO Putin had one chance and he blew it. Now it will be defensive warfare, massive Ukrainian offensives breaking through to Melitopol and beyond, and then a desperate peace treaty, followed by Putin being replaced by a more pro-Western oligarch.
Strelkov predicted all this from the start, and it was apparent from the first weeks to any non-delusional person, which is why my analysis here was pessimistic from the start.
I would love to be wrong, maybe I really am “6th column”.
I will say the the few RF troops in Ukraine have performed very well given their disadvantages.

“Maidan” is simply a vestige of Ottoman /Tartar rule over what is now the Ukraine. It simply stayed on in the language of the people there and means square or Sultan’s court or listening room(salon); where petitioners and rulers meet.

Fo4: Old Microbiologist, 233
About 20 years ago I spotted a VCR video tape in the local library, Chicagoland. I was to return later to pick it up, for viewing. This didn’t happen. The content of the video was printed, on the cassette sleeve. In short, it was a report from a military airfield in Russia, about 1992 or later (when the Russians opened their secrets and hearts). The american Colonel remarked, that the runway was littered with debris, chunks, even protruding twigs. And, in the USA, a tiralliere of aviators would pick any stone or bolt from the pavement – such was the high quality standards back in the USA . . . The Russian military commander responded, that in actual combat the conditions would be even worse, and the Russian pilots have to train for the fight and not for comfort. . . .
I regret of not noting the title of the VCR cassette.
On the side note, I remember a Technical Director of a large lignite mine, feeding 2 GW power station. He was comparing Rusian drilling rigs with those glistering, impressive (name of the West country here . . ) mining drills, for seam dewatering. Well, he much preferred the Russian drilling equipment, for durability and no-nonsense design. Гнётся, не ламётся, as the saying goes.

You Putinist “Trust the plan!”-ers are increasingly losing the plot.

Posted by: Herr Ringbone | Nov 21 2022 14:03 utc | 240

In response to Herr Rengbone@240,
I doubt a full mobilization is part of the plan. But yes, Russia should be able to mobilize nearly 25M in the event that it is absolutely necessary to do so, implying presumably a full blown war on Russian territory proper where it’s a choice of self-defense or eradication. But of course, nothing happens without expending any effort, and these sort of human resources cannot be easily tapped into during peacetime, nor sustained on a peacetime economy.

@239;
In event of all out RF-NATO war that is indeed important, etc.
In the real world of the localised Ukraine conflict NATO / UA have 100% total surveillance awareness of the battlefield with instantaneous encrypted comms.
This has never before been the case in warfare. It is a huge “force multiplier”.
Russians are decades behind this. Contract soldiers were walking around with BaoFeng walkie talkies because of corruption, the alternative as no comms at all! Civilians had to crowdsource thousands of drones, for a supposedly modern army! Just the tip of the iceberg… Neoliberalism is a catastrophe – and Putin is a neoliberal. He was celebrated amongst neoliberal circles in the noughhties for his “flat tax” regressive tax system – which funnels wealth to oligarchs.

Approximately 20,000 Ukrainian troops occupy the island, kept secure by NATO air forces enforcing a no-fly zone in the western Black Sea.”

Whoa, when you lie, LIE BIG!!
Zmiinyi Island is TINY, it’s area is just 0.17 km2 = 170,000 m2

Unofficially there are a couple of hundred commercial dual-use satellites (e.g. Maxar) which complement this.
This was acknowledged by the Russians already, I believe by Medvedev or Shoigu?
There is also this thing called STARLINK – which when finished will basically deny the ability of other countries to have an independent space presence. There are thousands of them already.

🇺🇦Kiev authorities remove generators from occupied regions of DPR
Residents of territories of the DPR controlled by the Ukrainian armed forces have reported that the occupying authorities are preparing to abandon the occupied districts. “Preparation” takes place by dismantling boiler houses and transformers for subsequent removal. Residential houses are reportedly not supplied with gas, water, and light, with major interruptions.
With the onset of winter, the local population will have no choice but to emigrate. The wave of refugees will once again sweep across Europe. The male population is dying at the front.
The preconditions for the depopulation of Ukraine are being created, making this an ideal time for Western investors (BlackRock funds and others) to enter and take control of the country’s infrastructure and resources on the pretext of reconstruction. Everything will be sold at a token price due to the lack of other buyers.

Joe, comment 43
-the destruction of the Russian ally Yugoslavia was confirmation of Nato’s intention. I believe a Russian armoured column set up position in Sarajevo to counter Western machinations –
Incorrect. Yugoslavia, was never a Russian ally. The SFRY or the Yugoslavia which existed for a short while consisting of Serbia and Montenegro.
The SFRY (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia consisting of six republics; Serbia with two autonomous provinces, Kosovo and Vojvodina) was non-aligned, one of the founders of the Non Aligned movement whose we’ll known champion was the president of the SFRY Josip Broz Tito, one of the great statesman of the 20th century.
The SFRY was wary of the USSR and its defense doctrine was centred on defense against USSR invasion. Tito broke with Stalin, an important historical event, and generations of Yugoslavs were brought up to fear the USSR.
When the SFRY was destroyed because Serbian chauvinists, joined by their Croatian partners, wanted to create a Greater Serbia (make Serbia great again) by taking parts of Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina, Serbia and Montenegro created a state called Yugoslavia, which lasted just a couple of years because the Montenegrins ran away from domination by the Serbian nationalists. That Yugoslavia also was not an ally of Russia.
– Russia participated in the “management” of the Yugoslav crisis and was part of the peace keepers. Hence, their contingent in Sarajevo.
– As I have stated here before, the facts about the break-up of the SFRY (Yugoslavia) have been credibly established based on
rock-solid evidence by the Yugoslavia war crimes tribunal (ICTY). The evidence is public.
Those speaking about the SFRY should engage with the EVIDENCE, not with media stories and preferred versions pushed by numerous “experts”. The lies are very loud, but the truth can not erased, even if it is silent in comparison. Unfortunately.

“…Do some basic maths. If 85% of combat deployable RF ground forces are just sitting around in their barracks in Russia then why on earth would RF have to DRAFT 300k..?”
It is very simple.
The men that you say are “just sitting around” are actually engaged in garrison duties. They are ‘sitting around’ thousands of miles away from Ukraine because there is a good possibility that if they were moved west, the borders that they were watching would be attacked. Perhaps directly, more likely by proxy militias cobbled together by the CIA. Russia fears that, were it to move troops from Belarus, for example, Poland might attack there.
Are you really unaware that Russia faces threats from the imperialists all through central Asia, along its northwestern borders (Finland and Sweden have both dropped the pretence of neutrality and invited NATO forces to their land) and in the Caucasus?
Are you unaware that the US mobilised its National Guard to assist in its attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan? And this while it had troops “sitting around” in the UK, Korea, Germany and 800 plus bases.
The lengths to which posters go to depict Russia as militarily feeble and politically inept is astonishing. And a tribute to the depth of the propaganda fog in which NATO lives, in which the first rule of life is that capitalism will last forever and cannot be replaced. And the second, related, rule is that the Empire always wins.
Resistance is useless. America is always triumphant. Well, almost always. In Grenada it was. And in Panama. Elsewhere? Not quite so much.

One of the sad features of abolishing the draft in Western countries is that cohorts do not pass through the military and learn that professional soldiers train reservists and reservists are mobilised to fight.
It was Territorial Army units in British Army that were deployed in 1939 and it is Reservists even SAS Reservists deployed to Afghanistan with regular SAS sabres being used to protect high-value targets in UK.
It is terribly sad that Hollywood has given generations of non-mobilised the idea that actors embody the military doctrine and Chieckehawks send them into action

I don’t want to do an Old Guy Rant but the US in particular is becoming socially enfeebled and it will affect the military. The Pentagon admits that 70%+ of young men are unfit to serve ( in a military that is 8% obese).
Empires require stoicism and patriotism, not public worries over what pronoun is needed or , to me the most appalling of all, the use and practise of being “triggered” by trivial inconveniences. What will happen to any society when it rejects the strong and heroic ( likely out of envy) and elevates weakness and incapacity?
Many Western nations aren’t even able to mobilize enough hormonal desire to impregnate women and birth another generation ( Lithuania, also South Korea and much of the EU). And they think they can defend themselves?

Granted that with few exceptions MIC products are falling, crashing, sinking, exploding boondoggles, priced at their weight in gold, for the express purpose of diverting US deficit spending away from social programs and gouging tribute from “allies” (gimps).
But, as PavewayIV might say, if the prize is valuable enough, and it is, the MIC will pull their arm outta their ass.
Cheap drone in this context means on the order of $1000 dollars per unit. At that, it doesn’t matter if 10% fail to launch & fly, or whether 50% subsequently fail to acquire and hit a target that they should have. All that matters is that they’re doing more damage to the enemy than they cost.
I’m talking about a cheap, plastic model aircraft with a low kilogram warhead, low-spec smartphone core for autopilot and target recognition, task optimised sensor, task optimised software and a launch rocket integrated into a sealed tube so they can be strapped together and fired off in huge salvos.
Everything’s easy and dirty cheap except for the software and that’s not super difficult.
MIC is all about milking old designs in an environment of near constant intellectual decline and scamming most or all of the profit out of the system, i.e. most or all of the incentive, which is the only reason these things aren’t everyone’s idea of old news already.

As the UN looks like it won’t listen to Russia on the murders of Russian troops taken prisoner by Ukraine, Russia has decided to look for the killer themselves, which I’d image will be far more painful for those who carried out the murders than if the UN was involved when they are caught and dealt with.

One wonders how many Nato troops were killed as well at the command posts.
“Russian combat aircraft, missile and artillery troops obliterated four Ukrainian army command posts in the past day during the special military operation in Ukraine, Defense Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov reported on Monday.
“Operational-tactical and army aviation aircraft, missile troops and artillery wiped out the Ukrainian army’s command posts in the areas of the settlements of Shevchenkovo in the Kharkov Region, Krasny Liman in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Kamyshevakha and Preobrazhenka in the Zaporozhye Region, and also 54 artillery units at firing positions, manpower and military hardware in 124 areas,” the spokesman said.”

My general impressions of neutrality/objectivity referred to the site, not the article per se. But since i read it in my native Italian, i can’t say i agree w your characterisation on tone and attitude. As for the content, i thought it worth sharing as a rare example of a Nato country journalist being granted access to a Russian military facility.
If you prefer to believe that everything is running super smoothly and we are about to see a decisive, one-sided victory and that all the 300k men ill arrive with super new modern equipment and are to be added to the mighty Russian army, instead of perhaps replacing + reinforcing the many losses in what has been a tough and even fight, (the evidence of which seems pretty obvious on the map and recent failures…) go ahead.
We shall see how it all pans out. I remember very well all the ‘operational encirclement’ and ‘Russia is 2 weeks away from destroying the UAF’ talk from March, so i place the “UAF is about to crumble” in the same skeptical basket as the “Russia is running out of missiles” category. All will be revealed in due time i guess.

The US has an appalling lack of success since world war 2, and its role in the Allied victory then was much overhyped at least in the US. was it socially enfeebled in the 1950’s and all the way through Reagan’s terms, too? It has always been on easy street with regard to foes. the only time it has beaten a foe stronger than itself is against Britain, but how many former colonies broke away from Britain? it beat a fading Spanish empire, beat bands of pirates, managed to get its ass kicked by Canada, got in on the tail end of World War 1. It was gifted the world after world war 2 and set up systems that benefited it, legal and economic, and that has lasted what 75 years, generously speaking. and that is with the gift of Gorbachev dissolving its major rival. look at actual empires and the wars they fought and compare them to the US.

ratkomladic (260).
Not naive, it makes perfect sense for Russia to put it to the UN first before taking action themselves, the UN has a duty to act if prisoners are being murdered, and by highlighting the UN’s refusal to look into the claim, it exposes the UN as not fit for purpose.
I don’t suppose it’s about taking revenge as you put it, it’s about justice in a legal sense, the UN can convict (secret evidence and testimonies applied) Russians on the downing of Flight MH17 quick enough, but it appears unwilling to look into the murder of prisoners. I’d imagine, if possible, the killers will stand trial.

That’s likely what they’ll try eventually. On the other side of the equation:
This is exactly the type of scenario Russia is familiar with from the Syrian theater and these were exactly the type of drones they developed air defenses for to protect Khmeimim Air Base. If memory serves, Russia developed one of the earliest and most effective defense systems for this kind of drone attack.
How this will work at NATO scale, I don’t know, but if Syria wasn’t “NATO scale” what would be? And if the prize hasn’t been deemed “valuable enough” after nine months to expend some cheap drones one wonders when it will be?
Assuming the worst, if the Pentagon decides to go all in on cheapo drones it’ll be the same old game of mice against mice-traps.
Let’s wait and see …
Aside:
Remember the tale of Pandora’s box? What happens if the Pentagon (or Mi6?) decides to go this route and it’s a roaring success? Perhaps they might want to consider that cheap, effective weapons for one side are also cheap, effective weapons for the other …

The real alternatives to Minsk are now becoming clear-even, one supposes, to the idiots who run NATO and its constituent satellites.
Minsk was a very generous offer to the Ukraine government to forgive and forget its unconscionable criminal aggression against the Donbas and its racist insults to the Russian people. All that Kiev had to do was to institute the sort of federalism that is clearly called for in a state constituted of minorities living within defined regions.
What Minsk proposed was minimal. And inevitable. If Ukraine exists in two years time it will be with a federal government.
But securing a stable country was not on NATO’s agenda. What NATO wanted was a fight. Preferably involving other (Ukrainian) forces, on Ukraine’s territory. To weaken Russia.
What it has got, at the cost of thousands of Ukrainian lives in combat and, almost certainly, millions more, the victims of malnutrition and exposure, and other diseases of poverty, is an awakened Russian people.
After thirty plus years of demoralisation, indecision and immiseration Russia has been galvanised into a struggle for its very survival.
It was only a matter of time: NATO’s leaders setting out to ‘weaken’ Russia have strengthened it immeasurably and set it on a course in which the country is going to strain every muscle to free itself, and future generations, from fear of another Barbarossa, another western attack on its very existence.
the US having rejected Minsk has made surrender inevitable. It is just a matter of time. A short time.
As Gilbert Doctorow reports there is even talk of reviving Five Year Plans.
“…The pressure on Mr. Putin is from his own patriotic supporters, and an untimely truce for negotiations right now could lead to civil disorder in Russia. This is not idle speculation: it was perfectly clear from the latest edition of yesterday’s talk show Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov in which a deputy speaker of the Duma from the ruling party United Russia and a Duma committee chairman from the Communists took an active part, meaning that the nation’s elites are moving with the popular current against Defense Minister Shoigu if not against those still higher in the Kremlin. Meanwhile, discredited Russian Liberalism is taking down with it the commitment to free markets for the sake of more effective war production. There is serious talk of reintroducing Five Year Plans. And the recent official approval of plans to proceed with traditional celebrations of Christmas and New Year’s in Russian cities was denounced as inappropriate for a country at war in an existential struggle with NATO…”

I find it almost laughable, that the IAEA chief has called on Russia and Ukraine to cool-it when it comes to shelling Europe’s largest nuclear power plant the ZNPP. The IAEA voted to try and force Russian forces out of the ZNPP even though Ukrainian forces have been shelling the ZNPP for months coming close a few times to causing a disaster that could affect Europe as a whole.
It’s a clear-cut case of the IAEA trying to apportion blame for a possible nuclear disaster on Russian forces even though they are the only force standing between the ZNPP and the Ukrainian forces that have been shelling the nuclear power plant for months now.
Y’know I was skeptical of the UN, OSCE, IAEA, OPCW, EU before this conflict in Ukraine, and questioned their bias, this conflict has now shown that the above bodies, and many more connected with them, are utterly biased in favour of the West, and whatever distasteful puppet regimes the USA happens to be propping up at the time.

For a long time I puzzled over how this came to be, i.e how the UN became so almost completely a Western institution and more specifically an Anglo-American institution.
Slowly it dawned on me, thinking back to my youth when I provided technical services to many NGOs NGO-affiliated NPOs, that the common career path for people working in NGO-world was predominantly in the UN or one of it’s large organs.
Now I understand what really happened: Over many decades (at least 30 in my my own memory) thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of people were recruited and filtered through the global NGO system, which are primarily Anglo-American institutions into the UN, where they now operate the machinery of that organisation at almost all levels.
Thus it came to pass.

Putin is the heir to Yeltsin. The idea that he’s going to go back to planned economy is absurd. He’s far more likely to ban the Communists or slaughter them in the Duma like his political daddy than to restore socialism. Don’t know if the CP is delusional, or pretending to think Putin can really fight fascism/imperialism now when he’s spent his entire career fighting socialism and trying to make a deal.

The drones may well be cheap on the inside but the price will be super deluxe. Screw building F35s when you can make $10k drones and charge the taxpayer $150k. Definitely the future grift!

Nato to expand aid to Ukraine
NATO wants to expand military assistance to Kiev without being involved in conflict
https://tass.com/world/1539915
Had Russia won in Kherson Nato would instead beg for peace talks instead Russia proved to be weaker than many expected and thus war will continue, logically, for Kiev and Nato.

Western Nato warmongers still apportioning blame on Russia for the missile hit in Poland, twisting it as Russia’s fault for causing the conflict, and Zelensky still won’t admit it was HIS forces that fired the missile into Poland.
Of course, Zelensky was trying to trigger Article 5 and by attacking Poland he must have thought that he would’ve been successful. US POTUS Biden was quick to play down the strike simply because there’s no way he wants to trigger Article 5, as it would likely lead to a huge escalation in hostilities and possibly the use of nuclear weapons. Biden doesn’t care that much for Ukrainians or the Polish, nor possibly any EU or Nato country to trigger Article 5 and see the likelihood of attacks on US soil.
As U.S. STRATCOM head Charles Richard said the US are testing their weapons in Ukraine, to see how they fair for the REAL hot war with Russia or China, the deaths of Ukrainian troops are an acceptable price to pay to see how the weapons do in a real combat situation.
Eventually all manner of new US weaponry will be sent to Ukraine to see how it performs in live combat, the human cost won’t matter to the US POTUS, as it won’t be American citizens that die, well mostly it won’t.

Yes, there’s that. What have we seen thus far:
– switchblade 300: small. expensive. useless.
– Bayraktar TB2: bigger. expensive. useless (more or less)
– Black Hornet: Small. bloody expensive … useless
– perhaps the same noname branded cobbled together drones seen in Syria? assumedly cheap. assuredly useless.
For some reason, over nine months the entire western military complex appears to have failed to find exactly the right form-factor and cost point to match what the Russians seem to be achieving with the Shahed/Geran-2 drone, let alone anything else.
I mean, if one can’t make an expensive drone right … How does one make a cheap drone right?

Re, Russian-Turkish relations. This is the traditional way that nations have interacted, before everything became an existential and ideological confrontation between good and evil. For most of human history nations could go to war over something minor, settle it on the battlefield and/or via a negotiated settlement that gave territory/power, and then end up fighting on the same side against a different country a few years later. Even the British, probably the worst people in all of history, could manage this. The great contribution to geopolitics from the US is this idea of a never-ending crusade based on good vs. evil.
The Russian-Turkish relationship is actually a fine example of what a real multipolar world will look like. Within the last 10 years there have been events that could well have led to war between the two countries, yet they still manage to cooperate on issues where they share an interest and even understand that there are issues where they will not. Russia hasn’t thrown a fit about Turkiye supplying Ukraine with equipment. I’m sure the Kremlin is less than happy it occurred, but it hasn’t blocked cooperation in other areas. Contrast that to how the US behaves, currently threatening to sanction Turkiye for not sanctioning Russia while provoking Greece to provoke Turkiye even though they’re both NATO countries. The only hope for a geopolitics based on Realism is for the US to stop turning everything into an ideological purity contest with demands that the enemy be unconditionally destroyed.

That could account for some of it, and EU chief Josep Borrell, revealed the attitude to the rest of the world to go along with it. Maybe that’s why we only see African dictators and Eastern European warlords standing in the dock of the Hague, and not the likes of the Blair’s and the Bush’s.
“On October 13, during the inauguration ceremony of the European Diplomatic Academy in Bruges, Belgium, the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that “Europe is a garden” while the (rest of the) “world is a jungle”. The remark can hardly be described as anything else but racist, given the colonialist legacy of the political West. Worse yet, the very fact that Borrell was addressing an audience of the EU’s future diplomatic elite makes the statement even more concerning.”

I did some basic analysis on the UKR Casualty figures I cross posted from another forum
That post listed 101,431 KIA – excluded MIA (probably killed) etc – a truly horrific loss – figures from Kiev City, Kherson oblast and Chernigov Oblast were missing from the map
Using this number and dividing by the 35 Million population of government controlled Ukraine we get a fatality rate of 2.88 per 1000
There is a pretty unusual distribution – the hardest hit areas were Poltava (12,56 per thousand 2021 population) and Transcarpathia – 11.25 per 1000) Zhytomyr (8.31) , Dnepropetrovsk(5.35) and Vinnitsa (5.11) were also hit hard
Sumy, Cherkassy, Nikolayev and Odessa all lost less that 0.7 per 1000 population

Another piece of the puzzle:
Many UN-affiliated NGOs are targeted at youth in the developing world. One finds many of these youth retain their association with these NGOs during their tertiary education and move on to employment with them or directly with UN-run organisations. If you’ve ever had a discussion with some of these youths, as I have, you’d marvel at how effectively they’ve been brainwashed into believing the UN is an absolute force for good.

Interesting reply, thx.
I tend to avoid broad moralistic comparisons in what are clearly incomparable circumstances, particularly when they have been dictated mostly by geography.
The Black Sea and Turkey’s choke hold on Russia through the Dardanelles has few equivalents in the world: a global power like Russia reconciling with a regional power like Turkey on unfavourable terms locally, but ultimately, with the leverage of more favourable means on a global scale.
The Baltic is the closest example i can think of, though given the multitude of actors in that region, one can understand how multiple vectors have shifted the balance over time, and negated the possibility of one on one negotiations, if one compares how the two theatres have played out in just the past 3 centuries alone.

Good points
Like you say, there are proliferation issues that could come back to haunt NATO’s own high value weapons, that’s maybe a factor in the apparently slow and stilted US development of drones, trying to keep all the existing MIC pirate crews happy, whereas Iran has developed all kinds of novel and effective systems on a fraction of the budget.
The secrecy around the specifics of what US / NATO drones are being sent to UA does make it harder than usual to understand their potential impact but you’re probably right that RF experience with counter drone systems means they can likely handle any realistic development.
Anyway, it was one of the least preposterous statements of absolute certitude offered by @moaobserver =)

«320,000 mothers in Ukraine are demanding answers from the Ukrainian government as to what happened to their children. I suspect that they are all dead and that the real number of dead Ukrainians is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400,000 and the war is really still in the opening phases.»
There is a particularly sad aspect to this: because of pensions many women in Europe no longer have several children to take care of them in their old age, but have at most one. Many women Ukraine have indeed a single child, and those who have a son have a high risk of losing that son.
That applies also in part to the Russian Federation (and many RF contract soldiers are therefore from the areas with higher natality rates) and even more so to most rich EU countries; most of them have abolished conscription and have reduced their armies to tiny numbers and allowed the recruitment of women because of the large percentage of very precious only sons.

«Driving home his point, Klitschko cited a message he said he’d received from a Kyiv soldier telling him that on his front line, there is “no heating, no water, no electricity, no services.”»
https://www.thepostil.com/the-military-situation-in-the-ukraine/
«In 2014, when I was at NATO, I was responsible for the fight against the proliferation of small arms, and we were trying to detect Russian arms deliveries to the rebels, to see if Moscow was involved. The information we received then came almost entirely from Polish intelligence services and did not “fit” with the information coming from the OSCE — despite rather crude allegations, there were no deliveries of weapons and military equipment from Russia. The rebels were armed thanks to the defection of Russian-speaking Ukrainian units that went over to the rebel side. As Ukrainian failures continued, tank, artillery and anti-aircraft battalions swelled the ranks of the autonomists. This is what pushed the Ukrainians to commit to the Minsk Agreements.
The Ukrainian army was then in a deplorable state. In October 2018, after four years of war, the chief Ukrainian military prosecutor, Anatoly Matios, stated that Ukraine had lost 2,700 men in the Donbass: 891 from illnesses, 318 from road accidents, 177 from other accidents, 175 from poisonings (alcohol, drugs), 172 from careless handling of weapons, 101 from breaches of security regulations, 228 from murders and 615 from suicides.
In fact, the army was undermined by the corruption of its cadres and no longer enjoyed the support of the population. According to a British Home Office report, in the March/April 2014 recall of reservists, 70 percent did not show up for the first session, 80 percent for the second, 90 percent for the third, and 95 percent for the fourth. In October/November 2017, 70% of conscripts did not show up for the “Fall 2017” recall campaign. This is not counting suicides and desertions (often over to the autonomists), which reached up to 30 percent of the workforce in the ATO area. Young Ukrainians refused to go and fight in the Donbass and preferred emigration, which also explains, at least partially, the demographic deficit of the country.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense then turned to NATO to help make its armed forces more “attractive.” Having already worked on similar projects within the framework of the United Nations, I was asked by NATO to participate in a program to restore the image of the Ukrainian armed forces. But this is a long-term process and the Ukrainians wanted to move quickly.
So, to compensate for the lack of soldiers, the Ukrainian government resorted to paramilitary militias. They are essentially composed of foreign mercenaries, often extreme right-wing militants. In 2020, they constituted about 40 percent of the Ukrainian forces and numbered about 102,000 men, according to Reuters. They were armed, financed and trained by the United States, Great Britain, Canada and France. There were more than 19 nationalities — including Swiss.
Western countries have thus clearly created and supported Ukrainian far-right militias. In October 2021, the Jerusalem Post sounded the alarm by denouncing the Centuria project. These militias had been operating in the Donbass since 2014, with Western support.»

«The Black Sea and Turkey’s choke hold on Russia through the Dardanelles»
It is an old issue, consider this 19th century english propaganda song for the Crimean War:
“The dogs of war are loose, and the ragged Russian Bear,
Full bent on blood and robbery, has crawl’d out of his lair;
It seems a thrashing now and then, will never help to tame
That brute, and so he’s out upon the “same old game.”
The Lion did his best to find him some excuse
To crawl back to his den again, all efforts were no use;
He hunger’d for his victim, he’s pleased when blood is shed,
But let us hope his crimes may all recoil on his own head.
REFRAIN:
We don’t want to fight but by jingo if we do,
We’ve got the ships, we’ve got the men, and got the money too!
We’ve fought the Bear before and while we’re Britons true
The Russians shall not have Constantinople.
”
The last line was the crucial one for the English Empire: their ruling elites were keen to protect their route to India (Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus, Egypt, Yemen, Somaliland, Oman, Gwadar, Karachi, Bombay Presidency), and they reckoned that the collapsing Ottoman Empire was no threat, but the Tsarist Empire could threaten Egypt from Constantinople. The english ruling elites well remembered that Napoleon invaded Egypt to cut the England-Egypt-India route.
The route to India no longer matters much, but the route to Egypt and the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf still matters a bit to the european states for oil and gas, even if most giant oil and gas ships cannot fit through the Suez canal and go via the longer route around southern Africa and the Atlantic.
So the USA still care about controlling the Suez route because the USA Navy primary function is the ability to cut any worldwide shipping route whenever they want, and to prevent others from doing the same.
The key here in the Eurasia vs. Oceania story is that transport of goods by ship is usually 10 times cheaper than by rail (too bad for the chinese BRI).

The total figure calculated figure is highly conservative & minimal re the source data used.
Another way to look at it is an average of ~300KIA for AFU per day based on actual bodycount.
That equates to a minimum of ~9,000KIA per month.
Therefore, total over last ten months ~90,000 KIA. If valid would equate to ~270,000 WIA of all categories and at least ~10,000 MIA/POWs. Total casualties ~370,000 KIA/WIA/MIA equates to ~62% casualties ergo AFU is combat ineffective since ~5-6 months ago. Again this is lowball because it is based on only immediate post battle body count, not losses of ALL kinds throughout Ukraine theater since Feb2422 duration … not just FEBA.
AFU started with standing army of ~600,000, yet has had six forced conscripted mobilizations since … down to even women & young boys & girls in the trenches. Now …

At the NPP,due to shelling, among other things, condensate storage tanks were damaged, which led to a non-radioactive leak
Expert group assessed the degree of damage to the NPP, believes that the key equipment was not damaged, there is no threat to nuclear safety-IAEA
Comment: can’t imagine what would be needed to happen that would qualify as a “threat to nuclear safety” … the IAEA/UN seem delusional and toothless.

“The UN does not have the capacity to determine those responsible for the attacks in the area of the Zaporozhye NPP.” This was stated on Monday at a briefing by the Deputy representative of the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq.
“We have no way to determine [who committed] these attacks. We would like these attacks to stop,” he said, answering a corresponding question from a journalist. Haq stressed that the UN “shares the concern” of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and “joins him in calling on all parties to cease fire around the station”
Macron said he had an “urgent” telephone conversation with Zelensky.
“I had an urgent phone conversation with Zelensky today. Today, the situation (in Ukraine) remains difficult. Ukraine continues to be bombed, the threat remains at the Zaporozhye NPP”-Macron

U.S. Presses Allies to Tighten Up Sanctions Enforcement on Russia🤡
U.S. officials are jetting around the globe in a quiet diplomatic push to get Russia’s major trading partners to enforce sanctions and trade controls, as exports to the country pick up after diving in the weeks following the special military operation.
But so-called sanctions leakage—in which weak enforcement enables banned finance and trade to flow—is undermining the ‘sanction’ campaign, aiding Russia’s economy .

(truth or propaganda?)
A telling case of unexpected revelation in Lviv. A Ukrainian woman (moreover, a Ukrainian-speaking woman) was expelled from a minibus for… defending Donbas and its inhabitants.
Moreover, she dared to point out to those around her that all the achievements of Lviv itself came at the expense of Russia and the Soviet past. Houses, enterprises, energy infrastructure – all this is the merit of the USSR. And you have to be pigs not to thank that time and the people who lived then for all this. And Ukraine, she said, had only destroyed everything given to it.
“The Russians built you enterprises, gave you flats. And you are prostitutes. You rebuild Donbas, Luhansk. And your children scattered to Europe. And Russia was and will be.”
It seems that her sensible thoughts were only a voice crying in the wilderness. At the same time as the AFU soldiers are dying in this desert at the front. And to survive they have only one option – to lay down their arms and raise ✋🤚

Hindsight can be quite insightful, in retrospect, pluses and minuses.
See this article and comments as an example from January.

and this one

The quiet before the storm …. it’s quite an intriguing read actually.
One great comment example is by Down South

We know that the US needs a war in Ukraine and is prepared to sacrifice the Ukraine to achieve the greater objective of isolating Russia and building an Iron Curtain 2.0 between Russia and Europe (the real objective of this war (IMO).
However, it seems that the Ukrainians with half a brain realises that they will be destroyed by such a war and must realise that the US is prepared to sacrifice the country , especially after the US stated that they had no intention of sending “boots on the ground” when said war kicks off leading to what Ze rightly pointed out correctly We cannot lose our entire army. So they realise a catastrophic defeat awaits them should they attack the East.
So what is the probability that the Ukrainian Army itself launches a coup. to stop the “crazies in the basement” launching a war that will destroy Ukraine and lead to the annihilation of the Army?

There are many more outstanding comments like. I also noticed how different the commenting roster was back then. While the ‘select ruling elites’ still dominated. Interesting.
