Gotta say things are looking a bit tense over here in North America. Sputnik News reports that one ambitious, ‘I love to work on unexceptional Canadian holidays especially if it glorifies Ukraine’, staffer met with Oleg Stepanov, the Russian ambassador. It was Cindy Termorshuizen, Director General of International Security Policy who hosted that get-together.
This is pure speculation on my part, but I can’t help but wonder if Trudeau was not consulted in this decision (but is forced to clean up after it), and thus Ms. Termorshuizen received international attention in the web pages of Sputnik News!!

There is talk of a possible next change affecting the Minister of Defense. The current incumbent Sergei Shoigu started as Minister of Emergency Situations. He also bears the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation”. He brilliantly fulfilled his mission in Syria, but is not a trained soldier. The Minister of Defense must be capable of supervising the army over the long haul. He must not get bogged down in the military operations in Ukraine, but must always keep in mind that this is only one round in the long war between Russia and the Anglo-Americans.

@55, yes, now that Russia has established overland connection to the Crimean peninsula, that bridge is no longer the only connection. It is still important because it shortens the distance by hundreds of kilometres.

Does anyone have any idea how startling it is to having read Billmon religiously in 2003-2005 and seeing him go away and realizing this place was here in 2022 discussing Ukraine?!?!?!?
My take, and why I am here, is that I am as much of a realist with Ukraine as i was about Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes Putin is terrible and a criminal and all of that, but what are we going to do? How do we stop death and destruction and what concessions would be fair on either side come to peace. I am frustrated at the win through total annihilation of Russia line of thinking because it sounds a lot like the neo’s on Iraq.
I am a little afraid to ask where folks here landed generally.

I am a new guy here myself, but otherwise I have been on earth for well over 80 years, starting out as a precocious child who learned the word propaganda at the age of 7 during WW2. My relatives were upset that our government was lying about the “surprise attack” on Pearl Harbor. I was astonished that the Government and media lied, since there in Lake Wobegon, nobody lied.
But lies there are. Big lies. Age old lies. Lies have become history.
There are a plethora of patrons here as well as the bartender himself who are among the most astute crowd on the internet.
However, most, having been marinated in a Tribal sauce of lies for all their lives, can not quite close the circle. But they are circling ever closer to that source. As an aid to that endeavor, there is more than a hint in John 8:44 by a well known person.

New here, as well.
I only go as far back as Viet Nam but since then I have hoped that the government would tell the truth once. It’s only gotten worse. I am ashamed of our government’s behavior.
