Trump had a problem with Xi’s China, not with Putin’s Russia. “Your” favorite Biden in the front man for Luke warm war I in Ukraine; his son Hunter was waist deep into Urki corruption. That might be why his puppet masters promoted him.
You can blame Trump for a lot, but not for being postboy @ Cold war II in Ukraine.

“What we just saw was the making of an All Xi’s Men team, the breaking of decade-long rules, and the birth of an unlimited supreme leader. These are not entirely surprising, but Xi’s grab of power is still beyond our expectation. He is now a truly modern emperor. 1/….”

Exactly. They’ve been threatening war with China for over 4 years now. Just do it already or shut up.

Those around Xi Jinping had quite a few people-free meters to spit to in front of them, may not be a great sign of equality, but seems to make more sense than a lot of other criteria for wearing a mask. Also note that noone turned their head sideways even when Hu was taken away…

Interesting times ahead.
There appears to be an upset on the horizon.
This year an unprecedented number of females have registered to vote. It also means the numbered of registered female voters actually exceeds the number of male voters by a fair margin!
An unprecedented number of voters have opted in for the postal vote. The number of probable/possible voters will exceed 40% or more.
Since super Tuesday is a working day. The unfortunate low-paid income earners working two or more jobs per day will not get paid for voting.

Walk around any Chinese, Japanese and Korean city and you’ll find some wearing masks and other not.
Posted by: Arch Bungle | Oct 23 2022 8:43 utc | 197

Certainly that was the case in Shenzhen, but in Hong Kong wearing is virtually 100%. I have stayed in Wan Chai in recent days and today am on Lamma island. It’s very busy at weekends and looking down from the hotel balcony the only people I see with masks lowered are sitting at outdoor restaurant tables. Everyone has the Leavehomesafe app on their phones in Hong Kong and every entry and exit to every enclosed space has to be recorded. Stricter than the mainland, but there are still substantial cases here, about 4,000 a day, Shenzhen is in single figures with twice the population.

Also note that noone turned their head sideways even when Hu was taken away…

That is not true. When Hu is led out at the very end of the stage three officials are clearly rubbernecking in his direction.
Regardless, as I understand Chinese (more generally east asian) culture, protocol is to look straight ahead no matter what.
This is one problem with westerners interpreting highly organised social events in Asia:
They know nothing of the accepted body language, behavioral protocols and customs and are unable to contextualise them. Instead they interpret events as if they were observing a bunch of Anglo-Saxons at a cocktail party.
That’s a sure way to get everything wrong, especially regarding the Chinese, more so with the Japanese, extremely so with the Thai.

wasn’t just Hunter….
Remember John Kerry’s son and Nancy Pelosi’s son were pigs at the Ukraine trough also…
Biden tells Poroshenko to sack prosecutor who’s investigating Bursima…..
Joe states he visited Kiev 12-13 times as VP to further U$ interests and investment in Ukraine… [U$ interests and investment being HIS]
https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4820105/user-clip-biden-tells-story-ukraine-prosecutor-fired
………………
Joe Biden’s decision to pressure Ukraine into firing its top prosecutor, who was investigating an oil and gas conglomerate that employed the former vice president’s son, came shortly after the company lobbied the Obama White House to end the probe.
A series of documents from the Obama-Biden administration released on Monday reveal that representatives for Burisma Holdings sought a meeting with the State Department in February 2016 to discuss allegations of corruption against the company.
At the time, Burisma and its founder, Mykola Zlochevsky, were under suspicion for money laundering and public corruption. The allegations stem from Zlochevsky’s tenure as Ukraine’s minister of ecology and natural resources in the early 2010s, where it is purported he used his position to approve oil and gas licenses for Burisma.
In order to get the meeting with the State Dept., Burisma’s representatives specifically invoked the former vice president’s youngest son, Hunter, who sat on the company’s board of directors. The documents, which were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit by John Solomon, do not indicate if the meeting ever took place.
In March 2016, Biden issued an ultimatum to then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko: either the government fire its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, or the U.S. would rescind upwards of $1 billion in aid.
According to Biden’s official recollection of the incident, he issued the ultimatum on behalf of then-President Barack Obama, who had lost faith in Shokin’s ability to root out corruption. Unofficially, though, it was well known that that Shokin was ramping up his investigation into both Burisma and Zlochvesky.
The revelations come into the spotlight as questions mount as to how Hunter Biden was able to secure an appointment to Burisma’s board in the first place. As Peter Schweizer, senior contributor at Breitbart News, detailed in his book Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, Hunter Biden secured the position, which paid as much as $83,000 per month, despite no having background in energy or Ukraine.

Let’s not forget why the U$ is escalating and escalating…. The key players keep digging to hide their corruption…

As Chinese, I can confirm your observation is correct.
In official and solemn occasions/situations, esp. like this one that takes place every five years and concerning important national matters , participants are supposed to look 庄重+严肃 (solemn, serious, holding your head straight, look straight ahead, not wandering your eyes left and right).
Another reason in Chinese (incl Japanese and Korean) culture, you don’t turn around to stare at some senior/important (ex-) top official when he is in toruble/doesn’t feel well to avoid to make him feel more embarrassed, esp. in such a solemn official occasion.
That’s why you don’t get to see Xi and anyone else turning their bodies/heads/eyes towards Hu, except one, who is nearby and junior in his position compared to Xi and Hu. Head nodding when Hu was out is more appropriate.
I am more curious who (insider or journalist) made this video and posted publically……

“An unprecedented number of voters have opted in for the postal vote. The number of probable/possible voters will exceed 40% or more.
Since super Tuesday is a working day. “
So the fix is in AGAIN.
Isn’t every Election Day a working day?
Why aren’t elections held over several days including weekend? Some countries do.
It is too keep the number of actual voters away from the polling stations and use postal votes to conjure up the ‘correct result’.
The insane rise in the numbers ‘voting’ by post is since 2000. Across the ‘Collective Waste’
Look it up.
Most of it was controlled by ‘private companies’ getting the contract to run voting! How profitable a business model is that??
Most of the private companies were involved Canadian behemoth the highly secretive CGI – its founders and backers obscure with their history.
Look it up.
The only way voting can be trusted is at the ballot boxes with actual arms length, transparent helpers and counters.
Then you’d see what people really wanted.
As it is we live in a coup state , they didn’t use tanks and fascist military traitors, they used the Electronic Voting Machines in the US – a bit too obvious – and the Postal Votes in the U.K – not as obvious but still easy to see if we are given the actual data – which we are not because ‘it’s commercially sensitive because private companies are doing it!’ – hey presto you’ve been scammed and you can’t accuse the scammer.
Let’s take them down!

The masking denial is just idiotic since there is research to back up even simple cloth masking going back over 100 years, including bit not limited to surgical masking
People do a lot of things today pretty much only because they’ve been doing them for years and years. That’s hardly a rationale. There’s even an ongoing debate in the medical profession about the usefulness of surgical masks in surgery.
Common sense tells us that masks block large droplets. So does putting your hand over your mouth. In any case, with the likes of the covid pathogen, transmission by breathing smaller aerosol-sized particles(which pass through any mask) and infection by viral load(breathing in enough of them over a period of time), account for the great majority of infections.
I see the CEO of Moderna just admitted that covid, now endemic, like the flu, is of concern only to older people with co-morbidities. Duh.

It is quite likely there are two factions in China politics, one faction thinking continuing to be nice will soothe the savage beast, the other faction recognizing the danger and preparing for defensive moves.
That is the basis of what I read about the disagreement in the Chinese leadership. Arrests of powerful figures for corruption ect are usually made public. Perhaps he was politically destroyed and arrested. The descriptions I have read sounded like ill health, perhaps brought on by stress, but then I guess some one who realized they had been politically destroyed would look like that too.
Posted by: Peter AU1 | Oct 23 2022 7:19 utc | 179
That is likely part of it. But I tend to think it is not vindictive. The old gentleman is just a bit older than I, and it is not the time to lead. At a certain point ones best use becomes being historical memory. At 69 I could still day-hike 15 miles. Now I know I cannot. It is also quite evident that Xi is bringing in some new people for the new situation going forward, and that I have to approve of.
Thank you for your comment, always a pleasure.

Compare this video Hu Jintao walking into the Great Hall with assist, starting from 9′, watch Hu’s facial experession, with the viral “Hu was forced out” video, and draw your own conclusion.
@karlof1,
What Escobar wrote “Hu is now out of the Politburo” is wrong: Hu was NOT in Politburo after his retirement, 8 years ago. Hu was memeber of 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Politburo.

At the same time, another (US-backed) psyop in Beijing: a banner hanged out in Beijing, claiming “不要核酸要吃饭, 不要文革要改革“(No PCR Test but Food, No Culture Revolution but Reform).
1. This banner with so many writing erros that even an average third grade primary Chinese student wouldn’t make. You can read the replies to have some fun about the dreadful Chinese level or lack of it of the hired hands who wrote it.
2. “不要文革要改革“(No Culture Revolution but Reform) – Typical talking points of Western’s Chinese experts and China’s fifth column who worship American neoliberalism 100% and wish to transform China into such a wokenism and predatory capitalism system.

I recognize this protocol as a non-Asian because, in my own culture these practices are hammered into us at an early age.
The protocol decides almost every aspect of body language that follows and, as you say, is also a learned cultural feature.

I am more curious who (insider or journalist) made this video and posted publically……

I think it would have been released with CPC permission to preempt the inevitable rumors or distorted narratives of Hu being abused.
Anything else can only point to 5th columnists or foreign press who are sometimes allowed to report anything.
In any case, it’s clear Hu is unwell, possibly suffering from dementia. Another storm in a teacup ginned up for maximum propaganda effect …

I hafta own that there is a large amount of vicarious Schadenfreude keeping a bloke warm when he contemplates the total mess the half-arsed, never properly tested englander political structure and the totally unsurprising way that it is failing to meet the pressures it is currently placed under.
I say that as a human who spent a large portion of their life attempting to ameliorate the damage done by englander imperialism. For me the highlight was the economists cover illustration last week. Apparently englanders across a wide spectrum of political persuasions took exception to being lumped into the same basket of losers as Italians.
I agree, the Roman empire failed well over 1000 years ago and the stuff that empire did eg roads, universal laws etc, had a major impact on their colonies and not all of it bad.
Whereas the englander empire or as it was more accurately referred to at its kickoff “The East India Company” stole a lot, everything from the Kohinoor diamond to the continuing rape of resources all over this globe, to the ongoing white supremacist view of this world recently reflected in Sunak’s loss in the last ballot of englander tories makes that comparison completely unfair to Italians as all up their illegal occupation brought some positives with it whereas the englander occupations brought only theft and social division.
Englander leader’s attitudes to the world are best identified by their war against Bonaparte which since both the motivations and techniques are much the same are amply illustrated by amerika’s imperialism.
Bonaparte introduced the bulk of europe to two established standards that we far too frequently take for granted. The first id a standard written & comprehensible rule of law. The second which many are unaware of nowadays and few understand currently – they are that much taken for granted was a standardised system of weights and measures. Few 21st century citizens truly comprehend how important that second issue was at that time.
The more that Bonaparte did to create a fair and just society across most of western europe the more envious and paranoid englander politicians became. They invaded Portugal and Spain for the lowest possible motive – to re-install the corrupt self appointed monarchy and abolish all the hard work which had been done across Bonapartiste territory – why? as far as I can tell cos a King Henry of england felt humiliated and insecure by french citizens’ determination to make their nation better than it could hope to be under a Louis MCMXX or whatever.

I found the speculation about Ju Jintao here somewhat surprising, but certainly ridiculous. Thinking that the Chinese leadership would remove him forcefully at the Congress is actually seeing China stereotypically. Says a lot, and invites some introspection.
A poster in this thread copier a piece of news about US contacts with Iran stating he did not see the news anywhere else.
I did, it was and is on the official Iran news agency website:

It’s the website that the Americans disappeared some time ago. It was a shocking sight to see.

Thanks for the information!
Hu has diabetes that’s why he looks much old than Wen Jiabao, who was his premier under him, looks much younger.
Here I find Hu Jintao is IN the official photo of the conclusion of 20th CPC National Congress . The article was published at 19:31 Oct. 22nd, 2022 (Beijing Time).
<--This photo corroborate that "40 minutes later he was BACK". IF "Hu's definitely manhandled out of his chair" earlier as claimed by Melaleuca@ 165 and claims made by Western MSM, Hu wounld NOT have been shown in the official photo along with Xi at the closure of 20th CPC National Congress. Pepe Escobar about Hu Jintao:
The Hu affair.
CONFIRMED by a very special source with close connections with the Politburo. For the record, I have personally met the source, a fascinating character.
Hu has Alzheimer’s. Sometimes he’s lucid, hence he was deemed fit enough to attend the Party Congress.
Yet during the meeting “he relapsed multiple times, so his doctor decided that he should leave.” And that’s why he seemed reluctant to leave, his mind was…elsewhere.

Corruption is a double-edged sword. If truth be told corruption within and without from both parties is a very deep murky pond. Always festering just below the surface.
Scratch any politician from either party in the posterior. You will find the evil corruption rears its ugly head. Be it, their offspring, relatives, and close head-in-posterior associates. It is a simple fact of life in the polarized politics of the evil empire USSA!

He’s aged a lot since we saw him in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Hard to believe that was 15 years ago. China was really vibrant back then. Dark times ahead.

Yes, yes, 2008 was soooo much better than 2022 for China. “China was really vibrant back then”. Unlike now, when it’s basically a ghost town. Hahaha! What a clown!

Interesting the only corruption and dilution of the vote comes from the extensive “Gerrymandering”. Along with heavy-handed voter suppression by the GOP.
As for the postal vote, there exist methods to electronically validate the primary return paid envelope.
However, there exists a certain underhanded way of obtaining falsified applications for postal votes. This method is used often in all of the Republican-controlled counties. You will often see these manned booths outside any major marketplace. 🙁

Watching the video of Hu Jintao , it reminded me of the onset of my father’s dementia with Lewy bodies. Hu Jintao seemed clueless of what he was doing in the big hall or what he should do with the red notebook. They were trying to convince him same way we try to convince a small kid. When he was finally convinced to leave, he talked to Xi and taped the shoulder of the man sitting next to Xi, which gives no indication of any disagreements whatsoever as some of the west media has hinted on. And finally he waked out with small tiny steps which to me something resembles a parkinson. The man is obviously ill, but he was brought to set next to Xi probably, and just a guess, because that is what the CPC usually does where the previous president sets in that seat.

closeup shot on the following cut.
Here’s a much less well circulated clip of Hu being helped getting seated
note he’s also the only one with someone helping him shuffle his chair forward at the end
Looking at the well circulated clip with Hu almost getting dragged out it definitely looked bad. But I think together with this sequence its pretty clear that this was a health related issue.
As far as censorship in China goes, it definitely does have applications in maintaining control. But I think in this case it really is just trying to respect a man getting old.

An earlier video was released by channelnewsasia:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBG2bD-TE9g
It’s a bit edited (one clear cut and likely a less clear one when someone passed before the camera). Hu seems still a bit disoriented, but it seems likely he was later aware that Xi’s folder wasn’t his. There’s Hu Jintao, Li Zhanshu and Wang Huning getting touchy. I won’t comment much on body language, since @Arch Bungle and @lulu had some solid points and I’m not the best suited person for the task. The delayed release of footage confirms an intention to make a fuss out of nothing. When I was arguing whether this makes sense as a message to foreigners I was mostly thinking about the West, which is still an exemple of close-mindedness, still not sure it would make sense otherwise.
