I can imagine that to be drafted to be sent to war would be difficult to accept. I wonder if typical young Russian can actually appreciate what the country is up against and perhaps does not particularly care. It has to be taught – pride and patriotism. I have the impression that many Russians hold there own country in low esteem and see US as land of opportunity.
I have felt frustration with immigrants to US who come here to escape the poverty which may be attributable to US policies, then they serve in US military.

Due to EU sanctions, the export license of the operator of the Turkish Stream offshore gas pipeline was prematurely revoked on September 18
The operator of the “Turkish Stream” lost the right to purchase [access] European pipes.
The restrictive measures of the EU, which came into force on September 18, led to the early revocation of the export license from the Turkish Stream operator South Stream Transport B.V.
The official notification of this was sent by the authorities of the Netherlands. It is clarified that restrictive measures prohibit the supply of goods to Russia and the provision of services, in particular, technical assistance and maintenance.
However, the recall does not restrict further gas transportation. Based on this, the fuel supply of various industries and millions of households in Turkey and European countries will not be affected in the short and long term, the operator said.
The company has already applied for the renewal of the export license and is awaiting a response from the Dutch authorities.
South Stream Transport B.V. stated that they have all legal grounds to receive an exception under the current sanctions regulation of the European Union.
This is due to the fact that the gas that is transported via the Turkish Stream is subsequently supplied to European countries through national gas transmission systems, thereby helping to ensure their energy security.

Many Germans have been brainwashed by the political parties, media, education establishment, government departments, churches etc. But a sizable amount of them can think for themselves, and realise that 90% of our current problems are homemade.
When you shut down one of the world’s safest and most efficient nuclear energy industries, and then turn “green”, you need a base load capacity replacement. The 2 pipelines fulfilled that purpose. Whilst going “green”, they were lying to the public, suggesting that windmills were going to replace nuclear any day now, when in fact they were just figleaves to cover up the gas pipes to Russia.
So green energy was always a scam, in that the base load capacity was switched from nuclear to gas, and not “green”. As long as the Russians were prepared to supply cheap multi-decade energy, and keep quiet about it, the ordinary person did not notice or understand. But now that US/Poland have blown the lines, that scam became obvious.
The only problem now is, after the bums in Berlin are tossed out, how do you revive the nuclear energy industry in a few years time? Many of the universities no longer have departments for nuclear engineering or physics. And the professionals are now working in other industries or have left the country decades ago. The companies which used to specialise in this technology either don’t exist anymore, or have retooled.

In Eastern Europe the MSM story is that they’ll be saved by US with small nuclear reactors. Which don’t exist yet but in 5-7 years they’ll be built. First country to test them is Romania apparently, that is what MSM says. They tell people almost every day not to worry about Russian energy, no one needs it anyway.

MOSCOW, Sept 29 (Reuters) – The Russian-owned operator of the TurkStream gas pipeline said on Thursday that the Netherlands had withdrawn its export licence, but it will continue gas transportation, adding that it had requested the resumption of the license.

Note – the RF has not mobilized ‘conscripts’ – it has mobilized a (small) portion of what the U.S. military calls it’s Ready Reserve. Big Difference.
One should be skeptical of any reports describing ‘conscripts’ fleeing mobilization.

I now assume that the Germans have been beyond redemption for at least a decade. I recall there was only mild squeaking when they ‘discovered’ that Merkel’s private phone was monitored by the USA and German Secret Service. I had no concept of how foolish and slavish they were until the new government team started yapping as instructed.
Just as once we spoke of the ‘captive nations’, now we have a new class of captives. Sad.
On a brighter note, China is watching and assessing these circumstance from a very different attitude than that of Russia. When push comes to shove over the unity of China, I expect there will be abrupt and severe response.

That format change probably would help but I’d vote for / fund the addition of a minimise button next to the poster ID that minimised every comment by the same poster. It can’t be that hard to do purely on the browser side, without any server code or log-in requirement.
I guess it’d incentivise trolls to change ID more often or to impersonate credible IDs but I’d rather have the option to fade out obvious static and use it at my own discretion. It would definitely be effective against any trolls who want to built up an identity: from brazen gobshites to stealthy creeps.

Agreed. While there are probably some rural refuseniks among them, by and large, I would venture a guess to say that a lot of these are what we in the states would call, “soyboys.”
It may not seem fair for us to condemn them for not wanting to kill, but it can probably be understood that they lack full awareness and gravity of the situation and how this is truly existential for Russia.

After the Nord Stream pipelines were apparently blown up, the search for the culprit begins. The Western media launches the dumbest propaganda stunt of all time by pretending for a few days to be open-ended in finding the culprit. In fact, it’s already clear that they want to blame Russia. The US is not even mentioned as a possible culprit. Even an elementary school student understands how stupid that is.
And to put it bluntly right away, repairing the pipelines may be impossible because the pipes will now fill with salt water and they will begin to rust. A repair would only be possible, at least in theory, if it started immediately. However, that is not to be expected. The pipelines are dead.

We have lived in a time of over production for a long time. Proof: the importance of marketing. Salary of annual assistant professor of marketing: 150000 USD, assistant professor of mathematics: 50000, English: 30000 (around 1995).
This productivity is deflationary and that is deadly in a time of astronomical government (and other) debt. Moreover it makes it very hard for capitalists to make a profit. Destruction of economic capacity is needed supplemented with a really strong consumer that can easily swallow and digest the remaining productive capacity. I have long wondered which economic area will be the one to be eliminated. The easiest seemed to be South Korea (albeit maybe too small). But the South Koreans are too clever. You need some cooperation of the affected area to speed along its demise.
The European Union came up with this cooperation in the most spectacular fashion proving the “cosmic stupidity” of its “elites”.

In fact, this is a manifestation of a long-term strategy, in which the next step will be the appearance of NATO equipment on the front in a much larger volume. First of all, planes and tanks. While the Russian armed forces have an advantage in both types, it prevents the green forests from fully using them, but in a month there will be no greenery, everyone will be in full view. Hi, I assume you are in Norway. Ignoring the price it seems unlikely that Norway and maybe Denmark, not sure about Sweden, will run out of energy this winter. Regardless of price it seems inevitable that much of the EU south east of the Germany/Denmark border will run out.
Given Schengen, have you seen any comments in the press etc of the risk in the coming winter of freezing refugees fleeing to countries that still have heat and power? Especially after all hope of NS gas has gone.
Spain may be at similar risk.

A point I have seen little commented on is the considerable power that Poland may now have over Germany in that I assume it still has a live but valve turned off pipeline, with 50% of either NS pipeline, running from Russia into Germany, Yamal.
I assume that no-one in the German, or any other Western Government wants to let the German population know that in the middle of winter there is still an option to get gas.
Whilst Poland can keep its hands ‘clean’ by not using any it could come to the rescue of Germany, a savior no less. Even the US could get kudos by allowing it and hence saving German lives. Win-win. Now, how much reparations did Poland want from Germany?
Enough reason on its own for the end of NS2?

With respect you are wrong. The recognition of the plebiscite regions as part of the Russian Federation is a matter of international law.
In regard to the international recognition if the incorporation of the plebiscite three issues are relevant.
1. Russia is a federation of states and incorporation is amenable under the Russian Federation constitution.
2. Annexation of territory since WWII is prohibited absolutely under international law. Although not apparently under the law of the United States as in United States v. Huckabee (1872). The Russian Federation constituted its action in Ukraine as a ‘Special Military Operation’ and did not declare war on Ukraine precisely for this reason under international law and for the political objective of incorporating the ethnic Russian oblasts democratically within the Russian Federation. Putin is NOT Hitler and the Russian Federation is NOT Nazi Germany under international law ( contra the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany by military conquest).
3. The recognition under international law of the plebiscite oblasts as constituent parts of the Russian Federation can and will proceed under the principle of cession where Ukraine either by treaty or waiver over a period of time gives up its sovereignty claims to the oblasts. Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention on Rights and Duties of States provides that a state
should possess a defined territory. So it will be a question of time or treaty.

A point I have seen little commented on is the considerable power that Poland may now have over Germany in that I assume it still has a live but valve turned off pipeline, with 50% of either NS pipeline, running from Russia into Germany, Yamal.

The pipeline isn’t turned off, it delivers gas from Germany to Poland.
But it doesn’t matter if Poland turns the valve – it stole the Yamal pipeline from Gazprom. Gazprom states it will not deliver gas through its stolen property. (Likewise it refused to deliver gas to Gazprom Germania that Germany stole / nationalized.)
Poland does have considerable power, and they know it. Germany is looking for alternative crude oil deliveries for its refinery in Schwedt, as it will no longer take crude through the Druzhba pipeline in 2023. The alternative route would be crude delivered through the ports of Rostock and Danzig. Rostock doesn’t have the infrastructure. Poland is delighted to provide the refinery with crude oil through Danzig. Provided Germany nationalize the refinery, and hand it over to Poland. In case you wonder: Rosneft is majority owner of that refinery. Germany is currently still balking at Poland’s demand.
Well, Germany doesn’t know where it can get crude oil comparable to that from Russia. Only Venezuela offers comparable crude, but Venezuela is under sanctions, and therefore cannot deliver.
In other news: the Bundesnetagentur warns that German households and small enterprises are using noticeably more gas than in the years before on average. This will mean we will run out of gas, and need to save more gas now. Who would’ve thougt that after a an extremely hot summer, there would come an extremely cold and wet autumn. And the temperature keeps falling.

If Ukraine can encircle Liman and force the garrison to surrender, it would be a huge victory for Ukraine, but not a war deciding one.

40,000 soldiers attacking from their side….
All in a very small place….
With no air cover, whatever…..
With little artillery support at the beginning…. being destroyed daily..
With Russian artillery on 3 sides….
Charging fortified positions held by experienced troops…
Being bombed by ~ 600 aircraft….???
Being shelled by flame throwing tanks…??
Being shelled by hundreds of artillery pieces round the clock…
