Mishandling of Fuel and ammunition stores. There's no blast walls whatsoever. Said airbase is old, dilapidated infrastructure with just metal sheet roofs. In very hot days it could ignite ammunition stored within.

You can't rule out sabotages obviously but you can rule out any long range missiles. Typical arrivals would have accompanying sonic boom and smoke trails. Neither are seen or heard near Odessa.

A nice, compact summary. Accident / misadventure the most likely explanation, no missiles reported, but a grenade-drone could have easily slipped past the poor security,

I wonder now that we have another 'incidents' in Mayskoye, Dzhankoy district, Crimea, ammo depot blown up, whether the self ignition ammo is still peddled as excuse?
And of course there is the transformer explosion, also self ignited........

Comon guys, take off the rose colored glasses and smell the coffee!

Trump "supporters" may forget that the only reason he won in 2016 was he won white Rust Belt voters which will never happen again. Jared and GOP don't want white voters, they only want minority voters. Which will never win you the Rust Belt.

Trump is not about Trump but his voters who of course will be betrayed as they were last time though still strung along on unending hopium bends dreaming of the end of Big Brother Guvmint.

Same with the Dems who get strung out on the hopium for Big G to deliver free-everything Utopia with complimentary hormone pack and new genitalia kit. Of course they get betrayed too.

The US tactics is to keep killing civilians until the enemy gives up.

Posted by: RB | Aug 15 2022 8:28 utc | 125

Correction: The US strategy is to exhaust their citizenry with unrelenting full spectrum cognitive bipolar dissonance until their new techno-fascist Utopia (for me/we but not for thee) is the only default option left.

Your missile distance so empty out all of Ukraine theory makes sense. But I keep windering: what about subs in the Baltic? I thought ground wars were just for localized conflicts now (witness current SMO without declaration) but actual kinetic wars will be waged from the Deep Blues in oceans and space and probably not last long. Meanwhile the asymmetric war is going to take years longer....

"... in addition to being a physical struggle, war is both a mental contest and a moral argument."

The SMO quote of the year...

Posted by: Scorpion | Aug 16 2022 10:28 utc | 207

HIMARS wouldn't make much difference with the few they were given.

Posted by: Lucci | Aug 15 2022 18:30 utc | 186

Realistically: how do you/we know what they are given?

Posted by: Scorpion | Aug 16 2022 10:35 utc | 208

Scorpion | Aug 16 2022 10:35 utc | 208

Let's say they give them 100 himars and 20k missiles. What's the difference? What would change? Every launcher can only shoot 1-2-3x before being exploded. That ignoring the difficulties of sending 100 large weapons and 20k missiles to the right places before being exploded. Ukr had more javelins than the whole nato in Europe combined. That didn't change anything, it's not even war yet.
Only crazy people and idiots think Ukr can win something. Ukr is lost for nato, now the question is what else is nato going to lose? If they get more involved than they already are, they'll be hit. D&D can happen anywhere and I don't see Russia looking for any negotiations anymore.

Looks like Russia's MOD has admitted that it's sabotage in the Crimean airfield.

Representative of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation Vladimir Matveev at the MCIS-2022: Western curators have practically written off the Kyiv regime and moved on to the practical division of Ukraine.

I've always had a great deal more respect for bands who, if they have 'film-clips' at all, are just them playing.
There are some exceptions to that rule, it must be said. Like: "Cloud busting", by Kate Bush, or "Unfinished Sympathy" by Massive Attack.
Time to put on some live Victims Family, methinks.

This is not the airfield, its one of several new 'ammo self ignition' incidents in Crimea

Feels like the operation is going to change

"Ukrainian troops hit the cooling system of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and containers with nuclear waste.
The reactor of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is protected, it will remain intact, even if the plane falls there, but the Ukrainian troops hit the cooling system, the regional authorities said."
