NYT Ground Report Debunks NYT Claim Of Strikes Against ‘Ukraine’s Civilians’

Nearly all big mainstream media currently provide 'live updates' of the war in Ukraine. These include abbreviated reports about this or that incident. They are convenient for the reader but miss important details which often debunk the claims made in them.

In today's 'live updates' the Washington Post writes twice about a missile strike in the town of Chasiv Yar:

Two dozen people remained trapped under the rubble of two high-rise apartment buildings in Chasiv Yar, a city in the Donetsk region, that local officials said were struck by Russian missiles. The governor of Donetsk called Russian strikes on the region over the weekend “true hell.”

More details are mentioned further down:

Rescue teams continue to comb through a residential complex after a Russian missile strike in Chasiv Yar over the weekend. Photos show bodies being pulled from the rubble and the possessions of residents buried under piles of bricks and dust.

Amid the debris lay shattered photo frames, furniture, blown-out windows and doors. Some residents returned to try to salvage their belongings. At least 18 were killed, and two dozen are missing. The death toll is expected to rise.

Some locals watched in horror as they waited for news of their loved ones.

“It was a missile strike,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday. “And everyone who gives orders for such strikes, everyone who carries them out targeting our ordinary cities, residential areas, kills absolutely deliberately.”

The Saturday missile strike on Chasiv Yar was also mentioned in yesterday's WaPo 'live updates' in similar detail. I find no stand alone report on the strike on the WaPo website.

Chasiv Yar lies west of Bakhmut about 25 kilometer from the front line

bigger

The New York Times' 'live updates' also mention the strike. The summary says:

The toll from a strike on the apartment complex in the Donetsk village of Chasiv Yar late Saturday rose to 24, the Ukrainian State Emergency Service said on Monday on Twitter. Eight people had been pulled from the rubble and rescued so far, it said.

Further down the incident is described in more detail:

Rescue workers scrambled on Sunday and into Monday to pull survivors from the wreckage of a five-story residential block in the eastern village of Chasiv Yar, in Donetsk, that was targeted by Russian missiles. Twenty-four people were killed and nine people had been rescued.

But President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said in a speech on Saturday that he hopes that an influx of weapons supplied by the West — including $400 million in military aid announced by the Biden administration on Friday — would help redress its disadvantage and “reduce Russian attack capabilities.”

The Times however has a reporter, Carlotta Gall, in Ukraine who visited the town and down in her stand alone report we find important details that the summaries somehow missed:

CHASIV YAR, Ukraine — Russia’s offensive in eastern Ukraine is intensifying in Donetsk Province, with a string of towns and villages coming under bombardment in the last week as Russian troops turn their firepower farther west after seizing control of the last city under Ukrainian control in Luhansk Province.

For days now, the attacks have mostly seemed random and without purpose, but taken as a whole they make clear that Russia is preparing to capture another slice of Donetsk, the other province in the Donbas region.
…
The deadliest attack came late Saturday, when rockets struck an apartment complex in the village of Chasiv Yar, a dozen miles from the front. At least 15 people were reported dead.

All through the day on Sunday, soldiers and emergency crews worked to rescue people from the bombed complex, pulling a sixth survivor from the rubble nearly 24 hours after the Russian rockets hit. Still, officials said late Saturday that a number of people might still lay beneath the debris.
…
On the front in Donetsk Province, a resident of Chasiv Yar village, Oleksandr, 31, stood watching the rescue work at the stricken apartment complex as machines pulled away concrete slabs and emergency workers flung bricks aside. “My grandmother was here,” he said. “That’s her bed,” he added pointing to the pile of rubble. “I hope they will find her and I can give her a funeral.”

He said that about 10 civilians, mostly women on pensions, were living in the building at the time of the strike, but that members of the military had come to lodge there two days earlier. He had tried to persuade his grandmother to move to his place, he said, but she had refused.

Two soldiers who had been staying in the building were among the dead, according to another soldier who arrived with colleagues from the front line near Bakhmut to retrieve belongings. He gave only his first name, Dyma, and his age, 28, in accordance with military rules. Military vests and rucksacks and a broken rifle, covered in brick dust, lay on the ground under the trees.

He said a plane had struck the building with rockets. Aerial bombardment was the most punishing, Dyma said. A plane had dropped a parachute bomb on their positions near Bakhmut, causing devastating damage. “They do not announce it but we are taking heavy losses,” he said. “We need to close the skies,” he added, repeating a request that many Ukrainians make for planes and stronger air defense systems from Western allies to combat Russian aerial attacks.

So, according to Oleksandr, the resident of Chasiv Yar, 10 old women were living in the building. But there are a total of 24 who were retrieved dead, according to the latest NYT update, two dozen who are additionally still missing and 8 that were rescued.

That makes for a total of 56 people hit by the strike of which possibly 10 were the resident pensioners. The other 46 then were 'members of the military [who] had come to lodge there two days earlier'.

To call that a 'strike on civilians' is incorrect to say the least. It was a strike on a military target that unfortunately had used a civilian residential structure with the residents becoming human shield and later 'collateral damage'.

The Russian defense ministry is thereby mostly correct when it reports the strike like this:

High-precision ground-based weapons near Chasov Yar in Donetsk People's Republic have destroyed temporary deployment point of 118th Brigade of Territorial Defence of AFU. The attack has resulted in the elimination of more than 300 nationalists.

The number in the Russian report is likely exaggerated (as is typical for such military reports). On the other hand we do not know the real number of casualties as such numbers usually creep up over time as they have already done in this case. The Ukrainian government may also want to hide the real casualty number. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle of both current claims.

UPDATE (17:15 UTC)

I have now found a decent survey view of the house. With 5 stories it is big enough to house the 300 troops the Russia defense ministry claimed. We however do not know how many really were there.

End Update

Ignoring the detailed report from its own reporter the New York Times today added a stand alone piece that accuses the Russian military of repeated hits on civilians:

Russia has claimed that it aims only at targets of military value — even though some were hundreds of miles from the front lines — and that whenever a civilian facility did get hit, it was one that the Ukrainian military had co-opted for use as a command post, a shelter for foreign fighters or storage for weapons.
…
Yet journalists, independent organizations and Ukrainian officials have documented Russian attacks on thousands of civilian buildings, structures and vehicles. In some cases, Russia used outdated weapons that might have been aimed at an industrial facility but missed, putting civilians at risk. But in many other cases, the Russians’ explanations have not held up under scrutiny.

Here are a few of the largest attacks, along with how Russia has explained away responsibility.

July 9: Apartment complex in Chasiv Yar

At least 24 people were killed after Russian rockets slammed into an apartment complex in Chasiv Yar, an eastern village about a dozen miles from the front line, Ukrainian emergency services said. Initial reports said a number of others were trapped beneath the rubble.

Russia’s response: The apartment buildings were being used by Ukrainian troops, the Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing an unnamed Russian law enforcement official. No civilians were killed, it claimed.

The Russian claim that 'no civilians were killed' is likely false, but the New York Times claim that it was an attack on something 'civilian' is proven wrong by the on-the-ground report from its own journalist.

The accusatory piece also mention as 'civilian' target the shopping mall in Kremenchuck which burned down after a missile strike hit the heavy machine factory right behind it.

The writers also list the Kramatorsk train station which was hit by a Ukranian Tocka-U missile fired from the direction held by the Ukrainian military.

Other 'civilian' places mentioned in that smear piece are the Mariupol maternity hospital which had been reported empty before being used as a fighting position, attacks on holiday apartments in Odessa which had previously been reported to house foreign fighters and the alleged Bucha massacre which was caused by Ukrainian artillery and Azov Nazis who killed pro-Russian civilians after the Russian military had departed the town.

The whole accusatory report, headlined 'Russia Repeatedly Strikes Ukraine’s Civilians. There’s Always an Excuse.', falls apart when one looks into the details behind the propaganda claims 'western' media made about the incidents.

In Sudak, a group of Crimean Tatars beat a Russian soldier who weared a cap with letter Z
The soldier has been injured during SMO and for treatment in Crimean hospital.
He was walking around the hospital when suddenly these bastards attacked him.
The soldier was almost beaten to death.
How this is possible?
Anyone can lose faith under these circumstances.
It is the task of the MoD to guarantee safety.
The MoD failed and fails to guarantee safety from shelling and Himar attacks on civilian target and moreover the MoD fails to protect his injured soldiers from being attacked by cockroaches.

In the Shiji (c. 100-90 BCE) is reported that during the Warring States last period, when the Qin state and the Zhao state were fucking up, in the battle of Changping (c. 260 BCE), at least 200000 Zhao’s defeated soldiers were obliged to dig, during 3 days, a trench 10 meters deep, 500 meters long, and 250 meters wide (1250000 m^3), not knowing that it would be their tomb.

Another energy-markets fact I just learned: EU sanctions (from April) prohibiting import of Russian coal into EU will become effective in mid-August.
2022-2023 coal prices (API2 Rotterdam benchmark index) around $350/tonne … well under $100/tonne was typical prior to the 2021 build-up in tensions.
No new contracts were allowed after mid-April. However the markets already closed in on the equilibrium price early March, so this didn’t necessarily have any effect. Like natural gas, the price of thermal coal seen by the buyer is almost entirely transport.

Further cuts in gas supplies from Russia to Germany will lead to a serious financial crisis in many German companies, putting millions of jobs at risk. If Russia continues to shut off gas supplies, companies that made record profits in the first two quarters could quickly find themselves in trouble, putting millions of jobs at risk. Once these industrial jobs disappear, they will never return.

The chairman of the association of German trade unions (DGB) Yasmin Fahimi on July 11.
The gas supply situation in Germany remains tense to this day. Since mid-June, gas inflow to Germany from the Russian Federation via Nord Stream has been used only at 40% of its maximum capacity.

By the way, that statement is an exaggeration. The rise of the Q4-2023 contracts over the last months was a steady, kind-of parabolic, curve. It also should not be a surprise. That giant explosion in Novaya Kakhovka doesn’t look like a fertilizer warehouse, ie it doesn’t look much like what happened at the port of Beirut. There’s one vid on Telegram showing the mushroom cloud surrounded by a ton of Roman candle stuff flying high into the sky. B’s attempts to mount a defense against accusations of war crimes is meaningless blather.
No, Sir. (1) B’s post highlights the rotten, cynical attitude of the MSM towards the public in the first place. THEY LIE NON STOP. (2) If there is NO violation of international law (Geneva Conventions,…) WE NEED TO KNOW. After all, the claim of such violations is the basis for the prosecution of supporters (showing of Z in public, donations, even rectification of such lies as e.g. in case of Alina Lipp,…). (3) Each and every instance of war crimes must be reported and documented. The NYT & Co. are free to do that. Russia is doing that with the deeds of the Nazis, I’m sure. What is not legitimate, is to fabricate accusations, suppress evidence or even commit false flag crimes as pretext for escalation.
He who helps in these plots supports terrorism. That’s what the NYT did. This crossed my mind reading b’s post. Your blather rant is far fetched and misses the point, which was to disprove the liars.

Ok, I got to admit that all this ammo depots destruction with the HIMARS are worrying me. It is happening everyday and no solution has been found so far. And Ukraine will get more HIMARS – and maybe more things if they keep showing success.
That said, rationally thinking, Russia has been bombing the shit out of Ukrainian equipment and ammunition depots since February 24, and it has done to a great extent. On top of that, Russian military is much more powerful, has much bigger stocks and can easily outproduce Ukraine – which, as a matter of fact, doesn’t seem to be even capable of producing right now, depending solely on western supplies.
So, bearing that in mind, if Ukraine still has ammunition, how does it make any sense to think that Ukraine can deplet Russia’s own stocks and resources by some occasional bombing?
It sounds more like an annoying hinderance rather than any “game changing” new tactics. Still, it is startling me.

The HIMARS are likely more accurate at longer ranges than the Russian versions. A CEP of 32 feet vs 150 feet at 300 km is a big advantage. 1 hits a large building, the other misses it.
So, IMHO, the Russian are (were) not protecting deep ammo storage areas with air defense as there were no Uke attacks on them.
Also, the US is providing targeting coordinates through satellite.
This of course, can change.
Russian bring in more ADU.
Russians spread ammo storage to smaller locations. Less to lose if hit, harder to hit in smaller buildings.
Russians hunt HIMARS more aggressively.
Also the areas hit are deep, 200 km from the front. That is not today’s front line ammo, or tomorrows, or next weeks. It’s ammo for 2 weeks out. So real impact on front lines will be small today, Russia has time to move up and reposition next wave of deliveries.
This does throw another consideration in Russian planning, but war is controlling chaos. So far Russia has been controlling, no reason to say they now won’t after a few setbacks.

Duly noted!
“Russians hunt HIMARS more aggressively.”
Would not it be better to prevent deliveries of Himars and other western partners equipment to the front lines?
Instead of painstaking Himars hunt at the battlefields destroy them already during transport by air or train to Ukraine.
All nations delivering heavy weapons to ukraine are party of war.
Once the equipment crosses the Ukro border or enters ukro airspace immediately destroy them.

A couple of notes …
The colonel from the Austrian tank school who analyses the war recently spoke about Russian having uses about 2.600 cruise-missiles and high-precision weapons so far in the war. There were mainly used to destroy army strongholds, supply and munition depots, factories, bridges, power stations and the like. The Russian Forces have their own similar weapon systems and they are pounding Ukraine from day one. No matter how many rockets these 4,6, or even 10 HIMARS will be able to fire each day till they meet their end, they will not change the course of the SMO one bit. In fact, I wonder whether some Russian military intelligence chaps will welcome the use of these systems, so they can check their own counter measures as well as the HIMARS capabilities in combat.
German TV has cranked up the anti-Russian hype this evening again, showing large-scale destruction caused by wanton Russian attacks against all and sundry in Syria over the last years, with some lass from Amnesty International/Human Rights Watch “backing” this up. And obviously, they follow this up now in Ukraine, with a special report about life in Bucha “after the massacre”, with two reporters asking the people living there “what happened”. In German:
https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/dokus-im-ersten/leben-nach-butscha-trauma-und-hoffnung/das-erste/Y3JpZDovL2Rhc2Vyc3RlLmRlL3JlcG9ydGFnZSBfIGRva3VtZW50YXRpb24gaW0gZXJzdGVuLzk3YTM3MzBiLWZmMWMtNGViZS1hYmZhLWIzNDAzN2MxY2JkNg
… essentially, you get a few opinions that give next to nothing away, yet the MSM turns it all against the Russians.
For the best part of two months, I have not heard or read of any attacks by Ukrainian forces against civilian targets (or any targets) in the freed Donbass region. IMHO, that`s journalistic racism or, as someone above put it, the German media is complicit to war crimes.
Desperate, desperate stuff that is being fed to the public. By now, you hope that quite a few can only laugh at the charlatan, who orders the reclaiming of the south and east of Ukraine and who speaks of a million soldiers. That could have come straight out of Hitler’s bunker in May 1945 …

It strikes me thar elensky’s touting his million man army, is sort of boastingly in response to Putin the other day, claiming that Russia hasn’t even started.
Until missles start raining down on the liars who inhabit 5th avenue, Madison Avenue, etc, I’ve lived among these folks, I’ve experienced their game, americans as a whole seem incapable of grasping the reality of war. I really thought the world trade towers might expose american dreamland, but no, and I think that was the intent.
US lies work on American soil to keep the less advantaged living in insecurity as to what is real and who is fake, and who is better, but thank goodness it doesn’t work so well in Russia! You could write a modern James novel exposing what fakes many well heeled Americans are, how absent in intellectualism owing to the lies they tell themselves, that keep a certain set living in an arrested state of development.
Iit still seems to me that Russia has the ability to level Ukraine, but they are willing to use limited methods and take losses. We can cheerlead Russia all we want, but I’m not sure it’s in anyone’s best interests to see this smo escalate. . .
That being said, the world needs to change. It is not in a good state right now, but it has been an agonizingly slow slide over decades. I hope that Russia prevails!

Today at Consortium News, Chris Hedges writes about the most dangerous treaty alliance on the planet.
https://consortiumnews.com/2022/07/11/chris-hedges-nato-most-dangerous-military-alliance-on-planet/
I doubt anything he says would come as a surprise to barflies.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the arms industry that depends on it for billions in profits, has become the most aggressive and dangerous military alliance on the planet. Created in 1949 to thwart Soviet expansion into Eastern and Central Europe, it has evolved into a global war machine in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America Africa and Asia.
NATO expanded its footprint, violating promises to Moscow, once the Cold War ended, to incorporate 14 countries in Eastern and Central Europe into the alliance. It will soon add Finland and Sweden.
It bombed Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo. It launched wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya, resulting in close to a million deaths and some 38 million people driven from their homes.
It is building a military footprint in Africa and Asia. It invited Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea, the so-called Asia Pacific Four, to its recent summit in Madrid at the end of June. It has expanded its reach into the Southern Hemisphere, signing a military training partnership agreement with Colombia, in December 2021. It has backed Turkey, with NATO’s second largest military, which has illegally invaded and occupied parts of Syria as well as Iraq.

There has been some speculation with respect to a 404 August 2022 event that serves as a casus belli for NATO intervention. There is also speculation that Putin may decide to “go all out” and seek to force a quick end to the SMO.
There may exist an issue of international law. The SMO was undertaken in defence of the breakaway Donbass states. The RF did not make a declaration of war. RF was asked to assist by the newly recognized states of DPR and LPR and the RF responded by providing the requested assistance.
Since then number of western nations have been openly providing military aid to 404. Under the present terms of the conflict this does not impair western party neutral status. The west is assisting 404 in the same manner RF is assisting DPR and LPR.
Were RF to make a formal declaration of war against 404 then any provision of military aid and assistance would deprive the assisting nations of neutral status and render them subject to military attack as co-belligerents.
Would RF take this step?
I believe the RF is being provoked into doing so: 1) the publicly acknowledged provision of satellite reconnaissance and targeting information; 2) UK openly training 404 replacement troops to a NATO standard; 3) Increased targeting of locations within Russia; 4) Provision of long range HIMARS rockets permitting increased attack on locations within Russia; 5) Repeated interference with RF commercial interests such as the recent attempt by the US to create a “buyers club” which will set the price the west will pay for Russian oil.
Once RF makes a formal declaration of war against 404 then all of the above acts would constitute belligerent acts. If they continue then RF would be entitled to act in defence of its interests.
The clown BoJo has been pushed from office, the fool Macron is being asked to resign due his associations with US firm Uber against the interests of French citizens, the idiot Scholz is destroying German industrial capacity and Joe “Ënd Quote / New Line” Biden is unable to read a Teleprompter. Not sure how the respective publics will respond when they realize their leaders have painted targets on their backs.

Remarkable to see someone still claiming that the mall in Kremenchuk burned down as a result of an accurate strike on the factory complex nearby. Two anti-ship missiles with low precision against ground targets were fired at the (very large) complex. One struck the edge opposite from the mall, and the other landed either directly on or just next to the loading dock in the rear corner of the mall. This is obvious from 2 sources: video from the factory showing the missile impacting on the far side of the small tree-line separating just beyond which the mall is located; and satellite photos taken afterward which show the mall completely destroyed and zero damage (and no impact crater) on that side of the factory complex.

There is a theme that runs through many comments and that is based on Russia losing, slowing down or stopped.
It is largely from MSM propaganda that you get your ammo to spout your knowledge about warfare or your biases.
Few listen to B , Larry Johnson , martyanyov and many others, because you prefer listening to the highly paid clowns that are all over MSM.
The west has many immigrants from many nationalities, most coming because of your economic and military hegemony over this planet earth.
Never once did I hear a complaint from the west about refugees directly linked to the evil.
Russians and more so Chinese are integrated in the west, and that poses a dilemma for both countries.
It is the very same thing that Russia faces in Ukraine and that is why the Zion USA trained them to hide behind civilians.
The USA is not pushing China into Russia. They are together even before this, so get it through your heads.
Russia knows that the economic pain coming to the west will be severe and is playing the long game.
Some believe that you are winning, but I think that this is the end of the west and it’s control over this world.
In the near future, when you see bombing like you have never seen before, look to China and see mobilization . The choice is yours, a slow dismantling or a very quick end.
The Jews will have nowhere to run, as they always did centuries previous.

True. But of course Ukraine is the proxy enemy. The real enemy is EU-NATO-US axis. And the longer the sanctions imposed by the west continue – and the pretext for their being is the Ukraine conflict – the more their real enemy is being seriously weakened economically, politically and culturally.
Put another way – as many here were saying a while back: Ukraine is not about Ukraine.

A work mate of mine and I have been wondering when, not if, the West is going to commit a false flag event that will “compel” them to go all-in on the Ukrainian WEFWar. I’m predicting it will happen sometime before the US midterm elections. It will be used by the democrats as a way to rally people around a sitting president’s party in the hope of preventing a probable dem bloodbath at the polls.
I don’t believe that the HIMARS is quite the “game-changer” western propaganda is making it out to be. I think that Russia’s command of the skies should make their quick elimination simple. And if they were that much of a game changer, I think that informed barflies like you, Karlof1 or b would have made mention of it.
Your theorizing about if/when RF declares war, and the effects that would have is fascinating. I disagree with nothing you’ve said. I know little about international law, but HIMARS rounds landing in RF is an act of war, complicated by the SMO.
Neocons don’t have a reverse gear, as a smart person once said. They keep pushing and pushing. This is a 30 year strategy. In that 30 years, NATO has continued eastward destroying countries globally all the while. Arm in arm w Klaus Schwab, they will soon “Decolonize Russia”, turn Ukraine into Disneyland and you’ll own nothing and love it.
They’re out to break the world and recreate it as a neo-feudal autocracy. They’ve begun the destruction of the airline industry.
But they won’t stop. You’re 100% correct, IMO. The west is going to keep pushing and poking RF until they’re obliged to declare war. A repeat of what they did to LPR/DNR.
I live in CA USA and judging from what little MSM/NPR/KPFA I consume, UKR is off the front page. What UKR stories I hear are filled with the same “RF is evil incarnate”. Mostly it’s just blaming Putin for every problem on earth.
Thank you for your informative posts.

Why does it sound ridiculous that Iran would provide UAVs to Russia?
Iran has expertise in the fabrication and interception of drones. They even boast the destruction of one of the Navy’s
super expensive global Hawk. They have extra sharp pictures of US Aircraft Carriers taken with their numerous type UAVs.
Loitering munitions, observation drones, Armed drones, Prop driven, Jet propulsed, you name it, they have it.
They are friendly towards Russia and can very well sell UAVs to receive SU35s.
They could also sell rockets to Russia, all types, long, medium, short ranges, precision or dumb ones and very capable in
the destructive power department.
Iran is a powerhouse in those departments.

@3 Richard “Is anyone following the story about Ukrainian claims of a million man army getting ready for it’s famous August offensive?”
Mull the brilliance of publicly informing your enemy that you have assembled a hitherto unknown army and then put the icing on the cake by telling him what you intend to do with those forces.
That’s Clauswitzian in its military brilliance. Something straight out of the pages of Sun Tzu.
A tip: the Ukrainians are reduced to attempting to “win” this war by means of propaganda. And Zelensky obviously believes that if he has to go that way then he may as well go big. A million big, at least. He would have preferred to claim that he has a gazillion men, but there might not be a Ukrainian phrase for that.

Posted by: John Reynolds | Jul 12 2022 2:46 utc | 158

I suspect that HIMARS is going to be as big a disappointment as the M777 howitzer.
If the Ukrainians use them close to the front line then the rockets themselves are going to be very difficult to intercept, but the launch vehicles are going to be picked off as they attempt to flee the scene. That, I believe, is how the Russians managed to destroy the first two.
The Americans are now going to supply long-range rockets for the next delivery of HIMARS, but while that will make the launchers harder to destroy it will make the rockets much easier to intercept: they are ballistic missiles with some mid-course correction, so the further back you are the higher they fly and the more time you give the Russians to calculate an intercept path.
HIMARS is going to have a few initial successes, and then will quickly lose effectiveness as the Russians disperse their ammo dumps, beef up their AA defenses, and up the number of drones they dedicate to chasing the launch vehicles down.
(BTW, anyone know how many rockets the Americans actually have in their inventory? On past performance the Ukkies will spray them about like there is no tomorrow, so I imagine they will chew up the American stockpile much faster than the Pentagon will feel comfortable with. But does anyone know how quickly the stocks will drop to zero?)

@Bad Deal Motors, Russia used air-launched KH-22 anti-ship missiles. They are excellent kit, very accurate in their primary role where they use onboard radar to home onto a target. That doesn’t work in the secondary-but-not-really-intended ground attack mode, where they only have INS guidance which drifts significantly from the standoff range from which Russia fired. No GPS to correct course because that doesn’t help you hit a moving target at sea.
The mall was also not closed, shops inside were advertising online in the days before the strike. I’m sure some shops inside did close due to the war, but it was open with civilians inside when Russia hit it.
As for satellite photos, not sure what to say. They do not show what you claim. You seem like a genuine seeker-of-knowledge type and I think it’s great to be skeptical of MSM narratives, but the contrarian position can be just as much of an echo chamber of bad info. Take care.

The UK also sent 4. There were, from what I’ve read, 12 systems at one point.
The US sending 4 more.. is just more red meat to feed the msm.
By now many msm must know Ukraine is incurring unsustainable losses.
The msm needs to convince itself and it’s faithful that “something is being done”.
A daily drip of news is required.
So “4 more HIMARS” fills airwaves and print for a few days….

The Capacity of the West’s Industrial Base
…………… In short, US annual artillery production would at best only last for 10 days to two weeks of combat in Ukraine.
If the initial estimate of Russian shells fired is over by 50%, it would only extend the artillery supplied for three weeks.
The US is not the only country facing this challenge. In a recent war game involving US, UK and French forces, UK forces exhausted national stockpiles of critical ammunition after eight days.
Unfortunately, this is not only the case with artillery.
Anti-tank Javelins and air-defence Stingers are in the same boat. The US shipped 7,000 Javelin missiles to Ukraine – roughly one-third of its stockpile – with more shipments to come. Lockheed Martin produces about 2,100 missiles a year, though this number might ramp up to 4,000 in a few years. Ukraine claims to use 500 Javelin missiles every day.
Who is RUSI?
The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) is the world’s oldest, and the UK’s leading defence and security think tank.

Internet sleuths determine the mall closed in March.. and this was shown as “closed” on its website and from store reviews. Google took the site down, and when it was back…. Hey presto, golly gee, willya look at that… there were recent reviews and the mall was listed as open.

Considering the thread theme of media contradiction, I notice that RT is leading a report on the leaked records from Hunter Biden’s iCloud storage. Their report even goes so far as to mention this:

While much of the scandal around Hunter Biden involves sex and drugs, he has also been involved in numerous investment schemes, apparently trading on his family name and connections. In the most prominent case, Hunter sat on the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma while his father was in charge of the US policy on Kiev, between 2015 and 2019. This ended up figuring in the Democrats’ first push to impeach Trump in 2019.
Last week, it emerged that some 950,000 barrels of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve, released by the White House in an effort to lower prices at the pump for Americans, ended up in the hands of a Chinese company Hunter Biden had invested in. Bohai Harvest RST, a private equity firm he co-founded, reported having a $1.7 million stake in Sinopec, back in 2015.

Here we have the Russian MOD ramping up its release of information on the criminal USA bio-warfare labs scattered across the Ukraine and the war crime association between Germany and Pentagon and Metabiota and RT ignores the biggest crime against humanity of all.
This is a repetitive blind eye that seems to operate in RT.

@128, Re: recent examples of attacks on Donbas, on 6/14/22, two small mentions with video of an obviously bombed maternity hospital in Donetsk. Bloomberg and Washington Post provide video. Their headlines don’t suggest US/Ukraine did the bombing. 6/14/22, Bloomberg, You Tube, “Shelling Damages Maternity Hospital in Donetsk.” Within its text, Bloomberg mentions shelling of a different place, “a market” (a less sensitive target), and that “separatists” “had said Monday Ukrainian forces shelled a market.” Not that Ukr did the shelling, just that “separatists said” Ukr did it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRGlfTyHHX8
…Next, WaPo version: They have video of 6/14/22 bombed hospital, but I can longer locate accompanying WaPo article. What I find now is a Yahoo article citing WaPo as source. Video of bombed hospital at top. “Washington Post, Maternity hospital in eastern Ukraine hit by shelling. June 14, 2022. Staff at a maternity hospital in separatist-held Donetsk on June 14 showed the damage the building sustained under what they said was shelling.”…Again, no mention of Ukraine being responsible. They only grudgingly admit that shelling occurred, ie, “What they said was shelling”

“They’re out to break the world and recreate it as a neo-feudal autocracy.”
You are 100% on that point, imo.
We are seeing the early stages of the demise of market-based (Wall St) capitalism in my view. At least at an international trade scale.
Many assets of any western value have been slowly moved off-market after the last post-2007/9 financial crisis and into private equity hands. Now Russia (as a start) is basically moving their energy and food resource export assets towards a more efficient (cut out the middleman) model which produces a huge political-capital store of Global South influence.
What’s left of the western free-market capitalist (share trading) system will reduce in scale (and effect) to small rump tactical playgrounds without any real strategic value. What the parasite classes then do (or are now doing in anticipation) is an issue for future observation and research.
How much the “neo-feudal autocracy” metaphor reflects this at the western core is yet to be seen but I personally also see it thus. Such a “Chinese values” system runs quite well in the Singapore context without too much grinding of teeth. So, it all comes down to defining “good governance” as a cultural fit (feasibility) vector rather than (or more in addition too) a simply technological process.
Whether it is a Chinese Confucian orientated “social credit” system or an American (5-Eyes) Deep State prison (plantation) industrial system complex is really just the tablecloth over the underlying hard structure. The latter needs a “war” metaphor to operate, the former less so. The key point for future relevance is whether it is aimed at “common wealth” or exceptional (privileged) criminal Oligarch wealth — e.g., Ukraine for Ukrainians, or for the Biden criminal family gang; Haiti for the locals, or for the criminal Clinton gang etc. Is there room for aristocracy beyond the quaint cultural history narratives?
There is a new generation “wake up” going on in the post-colonial west which will test the mettle of many – and the viable futures of some parasitic derivative ‘states’ like the apartheid post-1967 Israel. Food, energy and a fair system of sharing the common-wealth (domestic and international) is fast becoming the normative measure. Exceptionalism, whether Judaic, Hindu, White, European, North, American (but I repeat myself), or political ideology, is now increasingly on the extinction risk list.
For better, or worse, the Russians and the Chinese appear to have the new “Mandate from Heaven” and so we’ll see what the “walk” rather than the “talk” come to in due course etc. I’ll give it an interesting ‘decade’ to sort out – and I may just be still around to see the next phase swing into becoming the new ‘norm’.
I personally don’t give much more than 2-cents worth of attention to the post-Zoroastrian binary worldviews entrenched in Occupied Palestine at the moment. However, the complex geopolitical fault lines that run through that highly disputed area are a good leading indicator for decline in their various host-economies. Irrational cult psychosis (as state religion) is a high-cost ‘norm’ luxury in the emerging dominant Sino-Russian futures. That probably applies to Pakistan as well. Fight it, or surf it, is a 2020-30’s intelligence test, imo.
For what it’s worth, I found this session of value. A lot covered in detail but I agree with his empire-civilizational ‘win-lose’ prognosis around 1:22:30+. His “total collapse of the system” comment at around @1:29:55 as the only way out is unfortunately what seems to be transpiring.

They are cranking it up. Both articles put out at about the same timeframe…
Poland to Acquire 500 HIMARS From US
Lockheed Martin to build HIMARS missile launchers to send multimode seeker munitions to their targets
Pretty good article here…
HIMARS multiple launch rocket system
60KPH with a range of 480 KM which leaves a fuel reserve of 56 gallons. These things can move and are versatile. It looks like the missile packages are sealed units winched into position. The article states the Russian counterpart to Jane’s Defense have been watching development over the years.
In 2000, Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control division developed a prototype of the R44 missile for high-precision long-range target destruction using MLRS and HIMARS MLRS combat vehicles. To launch this missile, a special container for 10 missiles was developed.
The prototype had the ability to work in the mode of auxiliary inertial guidance with the help of GPS system (for hitting stationary targets) and with a miniature homing head from the program for the JCM (Joint Common Missile).
The design of the prototype included a homing head with three modes of operation: a Doppler radar operating in the millimeter wavelength range for all-weather applications and hitting moving targets, a cooled infrared mode for target detection and classification, and a semi-active laser mode for hitting targets using target designation.

Well the spooks are on the ball. Had a couple of non entity proposals to be ‘friends’. Third may have been genuine, but now the effers have slowed it down so much it is unusable.

@ 20 james – Stay in Haifa then and talk your shit to the Palestinians. This War is all about the Zionists jews, in the USA – EU – Israel – and leaving the HoChiMinh trail open is the stupidest military mistake I’ve since 1970 -71 , when I was on that border. I retired in Ukraine in 2012 – and I’m still here – so your shit doesn’t fly around here – Sonny Boy

“What puzzles me on those HIMARS is their numbers available on the frontlines,i.e. used against the
Donetz populations. As far as I read on Telegram/News outlets, 4 HIMARS units were sent by the US a
3 weeks ago. OF those there were 2 units sold by the Ukro militairy to Russia for $120k a piece, so 2 gone out of 4. Last week 2 units destroyed near Donets town. Another 2 gone, so none left of the original 4. The US promised to sent 4 more HIMARS units a week ago. Are they already operational and used against Donets peoples?
Stories keep popping up of shelling by those units like there are more of them. Anybody knows more about them?
(Jul 11 2022 17:16 utc | 34)
You are puzzled because you’re only counting the HIMARS sent by USA. You’re forgetting that UK and Germany also sent HIMARS. A total of 14 (USA+UK+Germany), if I remember correctly.
Brian Berletic from The New Atlas channel on YouTube had a video about this, where he explained a single battery of this higher mobility MLRS usually needs 9 HIMARS, which means Ukraine is not getting enough for it to be a game changer, specially in a 2000 Km front line.
But one the other hand, it may explain this “tactic” of isolated use of a single HIMARS at a time, and just to strike on warehouses and civilian targets. And a lot of propaganda for each strike. Good luck “winning the war” that way…
The towed M777 Howitzers were a complete failure, the standar MLRS were mostly destroyed, and now HIMARS (just MLRS that can move a little faster) will also be destroyed. It’s just that the time it took for other weapons to move, load, aim, fire, and move again, meant the Russia was destroying them in the same day (or pair of days) when Ukraine first used them.
Now Russia can still locate them after they fire, but the move fast enough to escape destruction. So, what does Russia do? Intel. They track them down and wait for them to be parked. Then the Su, Ka, or long range missiles strike and… it’s also game over for HIMARS.
Knowing this, some idiots in USA (Lindsay Graham) completely corrupted by the MIC, start talking about 300Km range HIMARS ammo, instead of just 70Km range they’re sending now.
And from Russia the counter rethoric comes from a guy that starts talking about a declaration of war against Ukraine by Autumn.
Since only what Putin says is valid, and a lot of Russian guys are as idiots (corrupt and/or NeoCon) as the americans, this means this was just a rethoric “battle”. There won’t be 300 Km ammo for HIMARS, nor official and full declaration of war against Ukraine.
Unless they’re both (USA and Russia corrupt politicians amd oligarchs) even more stupid than what I can imagine at this moment.
What I know for sure is that in this stupidity competition, European “leaders” are still in the pole position, way ahead of all others.
As an European, that means I’m f*cked…
But as a Sygma type of guy, that also means I won’t follow their flute to the abyss. I’m already questioning them, I no longer give a f*ckto anything in MainStreamMedia, and I’m just waiting (with my red vest on, since I don’t like the yellow…) for a bigger crowd to join me when the time arrives to overthrow all these Davos/Bilderberg idiota down.
LET’S F*CKING GO!!!
Sri Lanka already showed how it’s done!
That being said, a final note to USA: I only feel disgust from Trump and what he represents (oligarchy, nationalism, racism, fascism, and even more lies than the Democrats), but the only time I felt proud of USA people, was on 6th-January-2020.
Because either the people are in charge, or the people are just vassals of the oligarchy. And the USA regime is way far beyond its expiration date!
So, overthrow that sh*t, and make USA a DEMOcracy again!!
Les misérables ended French monarchy. Now is time for the Western “deplorables” to end the Davos/Bilderberg oligarchy in all Europe (ex: remember Macron’s treason leaked in the Uber files when you invade les champs elysées), and specially in USA SINGLE party regime (that uses 2 colors just to create the illusion of a choice).

Poland seems the right kind of idiots for himars ads. But the truth is they can’t hit anything except civilian targets, like yesterday. And even those are working only at close distance, if they fly a bit longer they are intercepted. Same story for m777 crap

yes lots of disgust on telegram relating to the youth group that wrote messages on shells then posted it online. probably gave themselves away with that. security has to be tighter and not make slip ups like that. look at the mileage this set back gave. uk papers talk about russia MOD issued a pause (false)as they had to regroup and re arm from heavy losses. hitting a few munitions dumps does make logistics slower, might be time to take out a few satellites

The alleged Russian missile hit on a building in Kharkov centre yesterday. It looks like a organised damage by Ze’s propagandists — the ‘live updates’…😏
No angled cracks to the window openings, no cracks at all on the brick façade, no damage to the next building, the debris is nicely lying on on a pile just in front, etc…
Also, every building on this area are unused, not populated since February-March. All the buildings had broken windows. There was a video once from someone showing the damage to the centre of Kharkov. (I posted it here at MoA, I’ll find that vid again). No one lives, works in the centre area of Kharkov.

Question
Anyone know about the state of Ukrainian logistics?
A few weeks back the Russian severely damaged the one remaining oil refinery in Ukraine in Kremenchug – what is the current state of petroleum fuel supplies in Ukraine? – disrupting fuel supplies severely degrades mobility and logistics
Some time ago the Russians struck electricity transformers on the Ukrainian Rail system. Ukrainian railways are heavily electrified with few diesel locomotives available. They also use the Russian 1224mm rail gauge vs the standard gauge used in most of Europe – hence Euro locomotives cannot be used – Any news on the state of Ukrainian railways? Ukrainian transport is heavily dependent on rail – particularly for moving heavy stuff – such as tanks or artillery ammunition
Numerous Bridges have been struck and damaged – any news on their current state?

(BTW, anyone know how many rockets the Americans actually have in their inventory? On past performance the Ukkies will spray them about like there is no tomorrow, so I imagine they will chew up the American stockpile much faster than the Pentagon will feel comfortable with. But does anyone know how quickly the stocks will drop to zero?)

Mercouris mentioned in a video yesterday that Ukraine has already received ~7000 Himars missiles, about 1/3 of a total US stockpile of ~25 000, some of which has banned warheads.
There is no actual confirmation that long range Himars will be delivered to Ukraine, there was reference to an article claimed to be saying so, but the article doesn’t 😮 Still, Mercouris says he believes they will be delivered.

These fakes and terrorist attacks won’t stop, they’ll increase in number, because Shoigu’s strategy of running in circles protects the nazis from Ukr government, Zelly and all the leadership. And junk US sends, like 4 himars, is exactly for terrorism. Not even hundreds of himars will do anything except shooting at civilians, factories or fertilizers.

WTFUD #160

Latest I’ve read is that Zelensky has outlawed/prohibited the sale of alcohol ‘A Dry Law’. Frequent patrols will be made to ensure it’s upheld.
The nightmare gets worse. I see more people flooding to the Donbass/RF regions.

No need for moonshine. Come the cooler weather the liberators can offer vodka and burger bars in the new republics and as much as you can eat for every surrender or defector. There goes the million man army.

Iran plans to supply Russia with potentially hundreds of drones for its war in Ukraine, some with combat capabilities, a US official has said.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said information received by the US suggests Iran is preparing to train Russian forces to use the drones.
He added that it was unclear if Iran had delivered them yet.

BBC “says”…
As though Sullivan knows where his own wife is/doing…intelligence, my foot!

He spends time off entirely with his family and does periods in production.
Perhaps he has taken a break from the hot spots.

To see the fake for what it is, just check the picture. No way a residential building has such bare walls – no wallpaper, no picture- nor photo-frame. Not a furniture piece in view, not a single carpet. Soldiers in a billet might have lived like that, but civilians? I don’t think so.

As if Russia needs drone help? I would read this “helping Russia” as more a case of Russia agreeing to allow Iran in to test their new toys in a real battlefield context — and maybe hunt down a few “dual citizen” mercenaries — as preparation for future Syrian games etc. The question is: what is Iran (soon to join the SCO) prepared to pay for this very useful real-time R&D testing facility against US/Nato equipment in the disputed borderlands? Looks more like data-intel gathering opportunity to me.
Don’t people find this recurring “poor old Russia” meme rather tiresome these days?
