To clear that last one up a little, kinzal penetrated a soviet era nuclear bunker to destroy tochka missile stockpile. Posted by: Peter AU1 | May 29 2022 6:08 utc | 201 @ CarlD | May 29 2022 4:45 utc | 183 Posted by: Pacifica Advocate | May 29 2022 6:11 utc | 202 I have a book of quotations which I enjoy reading. One that sticks with me is by Robert Penn Warren who said, “All history is explained by geography.” It explains so much to me regarding the current situation. Ukraine is a vast region, steppes through which the West can go east. Conversely, the “Huns” can invade from the East. Russia is a huge country with thousands of miles of possible points of invasion. That could lead to a sense of paranoia for a Russian. Ukrainians could feel victimized by being a perpetual battleground. The USA has two oceans buffering them from what is happening in Eurasia, Africa and Australia, hence a feeling of invulnerability. I guess all of that is in flux with the modern (post-modern?) era in which we live, but it seems like it frames so much of the tragedy which is playing out right now. Free will is alive and well, except with those “modern scientists” that are paid to say the opposite, using non-scientific words like “debunk”. Posted by: Norwegian | May 29 2022 6:53 utc | 208 @psychohistorian | May 29 2022 2:04 utc | 159
The Barents Sea is shared with Norway. The White Sea has Russia on all sides and not in any way near Sweden. Posted by: Norwegian | May 29 2022 7:16 utc | 209 lex talionis | May 29 2022 6:26 utc | 201 Posted by: Peter AU1 | May 29 2022 7:29 utc | 210 @psychohistorian | May 29 2022 4:27 utc | 179
There are “hundreds” of videos of russian missile launches from the sea, i.e. submarines and surface ships, you must have missed them. Almost always, the missiles are launched vertically and one or more nose thrusts are used after a couple of seconds to literally turn the orientation of the missile to inclined or sometimes near horizontal in the desired direction. These are not ballistic missiles. Please share the link/photo. This sounds completely ridiculous. To communicate with Starlink, fixed parabolic antennas are used, as shown in the video I sheared before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDvwwpX1y9g Posted by: Norwegian | May 29 2022 7:56 utc | 213 Hello Alabamans! An acquaintance sent me a link to this site. Perhaps he didn’t mean to, but here I am. And where is the UK, another self-important small nation. Posted by: laguerre | May 29 2022 8:39 utc | 216 I don’t think I’d like to be a tank operator with the Ukrainian forces with this kind of firepower facing me. Posted by: Republicofscotland | May 29 2022 9:13 utc | 217 The Ukrainian forces are up against an impressive Russian arsenal, I wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end of this monster weapons shell. Posted by: Republicofscotland | May 29 2022 9:19 utc | 218 I wonder which MP this guy is a relative of. Posted by: Republicofscotland | May 29 2022 9:39 utc | 219 … Please share the link/photo. A 100 billion here, 50 billion there, pretty soon you’re talking real money… Posted by: c1ue | May 29 2022 12:10 utc | 230 Posted by: emersonreturn | May 29 2022 5:38 utc | 197 Posted by: juliania | May 29 2022 12:22 utc | 231 @Posted by: Olivier | May 28 2022 23:34 Posted by: bottle | May 29 2022 12:25 utc | 232 @BillB #223
Keep in mind that RF components really aren’t expensive due to the enormous volume from cell phone production. So unless Starlink is using some extra special stuff – GaAs or some other kind of non-standard RF, those parts don’t price out high at all. Posted by: c1ue | May 29 2022 12:32 utc | 233 @juliania #228 Posted by: c1ue | May 29 2022 12:36 utc | 234 RSH@102..if they stop, they will have to do it again at some point. Just watching how the Cancel Russia rolled out, obviously it was parked on a shelf ready to go…seems they didn’t expect the Russian ante. Posted by: sean the leprechaun | May 29 2022 12:40 utc | 235 … I don’t know about the orientation issue, but the Starlink antenna is a VERY advanced phased array … I suspect these characteristics and the potential direct satellite-to-satellite links makes this a dual use system from the get go. Posted by: anon2020 | May 29 2022 12:47 utc | 236 On 24.02.22, I mentioned to an acquaintance who had property in Kherson region, that she had better be prepared to change her postal address. Now she will have to change her SIM card too, as the mobile system is changing – new SIMs, new RBL tariff, and it’s now +7, not +380. When she goes on holiday there, she will need a Russian bank account as her UK cards will not work. Just getting there will be a problem. All utilities, banking etc, but with sanctions it will be difficult and more expensive. First get to Russia, then by train, then document problems… I wonder how her Ukrainian passport is going to work. I never asked if she had a Russian one too… and she (still) supports Zelenski/Elenski!
