Moon of Alabama Brecht quote

How The U.S. Does 'Diplomacy'

The U.S. doesn't do diplomacy. Every country has its own interests. But the U.S. and its pricks in the State Department insist that its interests must have priority over all others. Any country that disagrees with that will be called out on this or that issue or will even get sanctioned.

March 19 2022: President Xi Jinping Has a Video Call with US President Joe Biden

The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.

President Biden expounded on the US position, and expressed readiness for communication with China to prevent the situation from exacerbating.

President Xi pointed out that China does not want to see the situation in Ukraine to come to this. China stands for peace and opposes war. This is embedded in China’s history and culture. China makes a conclusion independently based on the merits of each matter. China advocates upholding international law and universally recognized norms governing international relations. China adheres to the UN Charter and promotes the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. These are the major principles that underpin China’s approach to the Ukraine crisis.

March 21 2022: US announces new sanctions on Chinese officials over ‘repressive acts’

The State Department said it would impose visa restrictions on Chinese officials it said are believed to be responsible for “policies or actions aimed at repressing religious and spiritual practitioners, members of ethnic minority groups, dissidents, human rights defenders, journalists, labor organizers, civil society organizers, and peaceful protestors in China and beyond.”

April 11 2022: Ukraine dominates Modi-Biden talks

Mr. Modi, who spoke via videolink to Mr Biden, described the situation in Ukraine as “very worrying” and said he had spoken, several times, with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin and had not just urged peace, but also direct talks between them. India’s unwillingness to call out Russia by name for its attack on Ukraine has not gone down well in Washington, but U.S. officials have also said that they hoped countries that have relationships with Moscow might leverage them to bring about a resolution to the situation.

April 12 2022: US Monitoring "Rise In Human Rights Abuses" In India: Antony Blinken

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States was monitoring what he described as a rise in "human rights abuses" in India by some officials, in a rare direct rebuke by Washington of New Delhi.

"We regularly engage with our Indian partners on these shared values (of human rights) and to that end, we are monitoring some recent concerning developments in India including a rise in human rights abuses by some government, police and prison officials," Mr Blinken said on Monday in a joint press briefing with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

January 10 2022: Chas Freeman - Diplomacy as an Instrument of Statecraft: A Practicum

What distinguishes diplomats from courtiers, securocrats, and other bureaucrats in a national capital is a reliance on empathy: the ability to see the world through other eyes and to use this insight to induce others to see their interests the way the diplomat wants them to see them. It takes more than a diplomatic passport, position, or title to make someone a “diplomat.” Diplomacy, like other skilled work, requires knowhow gained through training, mentoring, on-the-job experience, and awareness of historical precedents. It is a calling and a role, not a job title.

Yet diplomacy remains at best a proto-profession in the United States, thanks to the uniquely American reliance on the political spoils system to staff even key national security functions. This makes diplomatic appointments to benefit appointees and their political parties rather than the country. It thereby enshrines amateurism and incompetence. As the New York Herald-Tribune put it in 1857, in the United States “diplomacy is the sewer through which flows the scum and refuse of the political puddle. A man not fit to stay at home is just the man to send abroad.” Only one thing has changed about this in the last 165 years. Female campaign donors and celebrities now compete with men for appointments to what they imagine are ambassadorial sinecures in plummy places abroad, leaving seedy and dangerous places to lifers.

I really want to know what is in that supposed bioweapons lab below Azovstal called PIT 404 that George Webb, Fierce News and others are talking about. Lt. General Roger Clothier Jr. supposedly captured by DPR. The Azov and NATO officers hiding down there. People have said Russia wants to capture this intact.

Various sites have said what occurred down there in the bioweapons lab with Mariupol locals as captives/prisoners is unspeakable. I hope Russia and DPR are able to show the world the evil that has occurred there. People will then realize that Russia and Putin stood up and stopped evil. We know that evi is going on in those weapons labs connected to Hunter Biden. The sickening garbage on his lap top shows how evil these people are.

@Bubbles 189

Western Media has continuously ignored all wrongdoings by the Ukrainian side, the takeover of the Ukranian goverment by street thugs, lead by a historically extreme nationalist, Nazi collaborator movement, whose slogans have been adopted now all over Ukraine. Which was in fact a coup d'etat, even when they took over the parliament by force they were 1 vote short to remove the president constitutionally, but he still was removed.

They ignored the Odessa Massacre, they ignored 8 years of shelling civilians In Donetsk, while UN reports state that 80 percent of civilian casualties were in the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, the western media ignored all that, and then when Russia finally strikes back hardcore, the media acts as if out the blue there was Russian aggression and that is what 95 % of the people around me believe.

But I don't blame them, most people have a busy life, they come home turn on the TV and don't even have the time to check whether what is being said on the TV is true or not, as long as their fridge is full they believe what their media tells them, that is how it works everywhere, in fact those "color" revolution only work in countries where the peoples fridges are empty.

Why? Well as someone pointed out, the soldiers by the (broken?) tank were Ukrainians, so I assume they were on Ukrainian-held territory and on seeing the tank approach, they assumed it was also Ukrainian? Why upload the video? Why video Ukrainian soldiers executing wounded Russian soldiers? Why indeed? I can think of a number of reasons why.

Posted by: Barofsky | Apr 12 2022 21:29 utc | 208

The speculation about Mariupol--who is there, what is there, etc.--is in my view running far ahead of the evidence.

We know there are many European and Eurasian foreign-national mercenaries there.

We have some reason to believe there are NATO or NATO-connected officers there. Maybe some British. The timing of Boris Johnson's visit and the sudden appearance of Medvedchuk is interesting.

We have at least *some* reason to believe there might be SAS and/or Delta personnel there. I think this is less likely.

We have not been given any trustworthy information that an American general is there. Maybe he is; maybe not. But I do not believe we have anything but rumors.

The notion that there is some kind of biological warfare unit ensconced deep underground in the steel factory is arresting, to be sure, but I have not seen anything more to substantiate it than a bunch of people repeating the same rumors.

I have no idea what is in the steel works. But I would submit that if there really were some kind of biowarfare lab that directly implicates NATO/US, we would NOT have seen a bunch of helicopters and a ship trying to get people out; rather, we would have seen a much more concerted attempt to get Ukrainian troops to Mariupol, EVEN IF this meant leaving other cities open to capture. We did not see that, which to me suggests that there is unlikely to be the kind of biolab people are going on about.

Latest news caught on a livestream, haven't read the entire thread so may be someone else has posted already. Roughly 1000 (!) soldiers have surrendered after failure to break through Russian lines around Mariupol, Azovstahl. 200 wounded. Group were supposedly given false information from central command that evac was waiting for them in some nearby hamlet, turned out to be complete BS. Kiev intentionally set their own guys up.

In related news, SBU is posting pictures of a captured Viktor Medvechuk. Russian political analysts believe Kiev wants to make some sort of trade. I analyzed the photos and personally believe they are forgeries -- Medvechuk's face looks like it's been superimposed on someone else, with what appears to be visible lines of partial transparency. But, I may be mistaken.

Barofsky - thanks for all the great posts. It seems like the Azov nazis double cross everyone. The NATO officers and others would have had to been amazingly naive to trust them. The C*IA, Pentagram and others just want it to all go away now and they do not want any survivors who might talk.

The two Tanks were Russians. Videos uploaded first on pro Russian account or at least they're the one disseminating the video, the owner of the first video were Ukrainian that running away with audible sounds of another shot from the tanks and possibly coaxial machine gun firing.
The aftermath video showing mangled bodies with clearer Ukrainian markings blue armbands were most likely taken by Russian crews or perhaps civilians sympathetic to Russians.

Why the group didn't react to two closing Russian tanks? Well the tank in question are not traveling fast in typical combat speed but cruising in typical transit speed. In the last and third video that were recovered from the Ukrainian showings Ukrainian soldiers on the road give visible nod to the tanks falsely easing the men that sitting around the BMP to their doom.

It's typical confusion through fog of war but it does confirm that Ukrainian units are not speaking to each others and is not aware the scope of their active battlefield.

Transcript of a POW video.

Hello everyone, it's "Vladlen in the evening" and today I'll give a quick sitrep on todays events around Mariupol. As they say, the evening is getting brighter. Last night there was an attempt to break through our lines in the direction of Volnovakha, check out the last video on that topic where I talk about it. Today there were similar attempts, so far not everyone has been liquidated. We're rounding people up in forests, plains and fields. So far we've caught about 100 people, at least unofficially according to besonof (?) telegram channel. Some were *beep* (killed presumably) some were captured.

The enemy is attempting to break out in small groups, not only in organized formations but under some command, but also in groups of 5-6-10 people. Basically, it's every man for himself. They're trying to get out on civilian cars. Our position saw a Humvee or Hummer with medical signs on. The enemy quickly figured out where he was, started to turn around and made a run for it. We didn't fire on it because it carried the tactical symbol "Z" so that's what they're doing -- they're using light transport, putting on white armbands, marking everything with "Z" to buy themselves enough time to break through. Doesn't work every time, naturally -- well, it almost never works, tbh.

They're heading in the direction of Prebrezhnoy, Prebrezhnoy areas so to say. By the way, the port in Mariupol is ours in its entirety. Also, they're heading in the direction of Volnovakha and some are trying to get in to their own guys at Azovstahl -- one of those groups we happened to come across. They're abandoning all of their gear, rpg's, machineguns, rifles, and running with a light pack, trying to get into Azovstahl. Fighting continues at Azovstahl, every day we're cleaning up the surrounding civilian sector around Azovstahl. Every day certain buildings are being cleaned up, already in the industrial sector that flows into Azovstahl. I have certain information that tomorrow there will be a corridor set up for POW, that is, there are talks taking place for the surrender of a large group of POW from the Ilyich factory. Everything there has collapsed (in terms of morale etc) and you could say we're finished with the Ilyich factory. Maybe it's a matter of 2-3 days.

In terms of Azovstahl, I won't make any predictions. There we have ideologically motivated fighters from *bleep (Azov)* who understand that they'll receive no mercy. So they'll resist for a bit longer, though I wouldn't exclude attempts on their part to break through. But they're in a more difficult situation, because they're on the left bank and they would need to get through the entire city or across the river, so there are few options. No more news from me and bla bla bla...

Sladkov Q: So, who'll tell me. Was there any chemical agent used against any of you?
A: No.
Q: No seriously, I'd like to be sure for my own sake.
A: Nothing like that.
Q: That is, no headaches. No nausea. No sense of disorientation.
A: Negative.
Q: How'd you get caught?
A: Surrendered on our own initiative. (bullshit)
Q: Surrendered yourselves huh? Officers present? Which ones, show of hands. What's your position?
A: Division chief of communication.
Q: Understood, next.
A: Zam-polit, Political officer. (Obsolete Soviet era position, basically division propaganda chief)
Q: Seriously? Such a position exists? Well what do you know, professional colleague. I also graduated from political academy, where did you train?
A: I... was trained individually.
Q: Fine. What's the emotional state and why did you attempt a break through?
A: On orders by the brigade commander.
Q: Name of the commander.
A: Colonel Baranyuk.
Q: Could you introduce yourself, please.
A: Major Cherny. (Black)
Q: Alright, comrade major. What was the state of morale of the unit before the exit.
A: About a 3, roughly speaking. (Out of 10?)
Q: 3 huh? Ammunition, supplies, equipment, state of arms -- give me your estimate.
A: Running out of almost everything.
Q: More officers? Nothing but privates left? Who are you?
A: Senior sergeant.
Q: Position?
A: Commander of REB. (Electronic warfare)
Q: Where did you train?
A: I haven't received formal training, I was just transferred. (FFS)
Q: Fine, and what did you do in the army before transferring?
A: ZU operator. (AA)
Q: What sort of installation?
A: ZU-23-2. (auto-cannon)
Q: Shilka?
A: No.
Q: Fire on any aircraft?
A: No.
Q: How about ground targets?
A: Yes. But not me, I was transferred before then.
Q: Sure, I understand. Good. Drivers, mechanics? Show of hands. What's your name?
A: Oleg.
Q: Surname?
A: Chupachup? Lol.
Q: Where from? Kirov or what?
A: Novoukrainka.
Q: Could you tell me please, what vehicle did you use to exit, was it fully fueled and...
A: *incomprehensible gibberish*
Q: *In Ukrainian* Could you please speak Russian?
A: I just stand on the driver's post, I don't know anything about the gear. (WTF?!?)
Q: And you?
A: Also driver.
Q: Wheeled vehicles?
A: In a Ural.
Q: Ural?
A: Ural that is non-combat capable.
Q: Understood, understood. Here's a question; who surrendered on their own initiative and who was captured? Don't just stay quiet...
A: On our own.
Q: I don't get it. You weren't coming out with your hands up, you were trying to break through our lines.
A - 2 voices simultaneously: No -- That's exactly how it was.
A: We came under fire.
Q: Ok, good. You ran the line, came under fire, then what?
A: We went on foot because the vehicles were damaged and there was no way to get through. And in the woods we got surrounded and we were forced to surrender.
Q: What's your name?
A: Dmitry Gashov.
Q: Position?
A: Also electronic warfare.
Q: How many people made it here with you, alive, and how many perished?
A: I know of 3 dead for sure, 1 died came under artillery fire, second got shot and third died from shrapnel. My group definitely survived, 13-15 people. We had to surrender because we were surrounded.
Q: I don't get it. Where were you heading?
A: We followed a lieutenant colonel, he was leading us, I didn't know...
Q: Where were you heading? Berdyansk? Or someplace else?
A: I don't know, I was just following the person who knew where to go.
Q: So you weren't given any instructions at all?
A: We were just trying to get out of the line of fire.
Q: I see, disperse and retreat. I want to ask you, comrade political officer. How were people being prepared for the break-through?
A: An hour before the event, we told them to gather up, showed them the cars. Told people to get their things and get ready to go within a certain period of time.
Q: Ok. Did anyone refuse?
A: No, people sooner wanted to live and get out asap.
Q: But wtf didn't you surrender? Had you surrendered, you could've been taken care of ages ago.
A: We had no information on the possibility of surrender. How and to whom. What that would mean. (Rare breed of idiocy, I'm starting to face-palm)
Q: What's the main basic unit in this group? Err, this is all an electronic warfare unit?
A: Mumble.
Q: Oh, so he returned to HQ? How many people are left at HQ now?
A: No idea.
Q: What's that supposed to mean? Apart from you guys, who else was at the HQ with you? You're trying to tell me that only Electronic warfare guys were fighting from this position? At the factory?
A: There was nobody left. Everyone left.
Q: How's that possible? Ok, so you Electronic warfare guys, the three of you, held that entire front all by yourselves.
A: Well no...
Q: So who did the fighting?
A: *mumble* Some unit.
Q: And they're still there?
A: I suppose so.
Q: And who are they?
A: First battalion.
5 minutes discussion of trying to figure out Ukrainian command structure and misinformation.
Q: Ok, so basically you guys know fuck-all. Good. Are there any wounded? Name?
A: Andrey Gavrish.
Q: What sort of wound?
A: Shrapnel, went through.
Q: Did you get any aid?
A: Yes, your guys patched me up.
Q: Pain relief?
A: Don't need it.
Q: Injections?
A: No, I asked them not to.
Q: Did they clean the wound?
A: They did, but it's dirty again.
Q: Who else is wounded? Where were you wounded?
A: Ribs, shrapnel.
Q: Patched up? By whom?
A: Your guys. Got painkillers.
Q: What'd you get? Promydol?
A: No idea, but it doesn't hurt anymore. They got the shrapnel out and after that it feels much better.
Q: Where from?
A: Khmelnich.
Some small talk.
Q: More wounded? What's wrong?
A: Bullet.
Q: Injections?
A: Nah, just wrapped it up.
Q: Alright. You, could you introduce yourself?
A: Senior sergeant Ferinets Alexei.
Q: Head-wound?
A: No. It's just a scratch.
Q: What kind of wound then?
A: I'm not wounded.
Q: Not wounded? Look at you, your face is all swollen, what's that about?
A: Car accident.
Q: Position?
A: Driver.

Two more wounded guys, nothing of note. Hope it's not too long of a post.

According to SouthFront, Ukrainian TV initially said it was Russian friendly fire on Russians. So it was propaganda. But a second video released proved the target were Ukrainians. The second video from victim perspective shows the target were Ukrainians wearing blue bands.

The question is, who operated the tank? There was also a second tank behind the first.

Mafia and Mafiosi family hierarchy systems in pictures of Al Capone, Don Corleone, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, etc. have been turned to iconic hero like figures, like the Robin Hood in the American culture. Although Mafia and Mafiosi system is nothing more than illegal terror for financial gain of a racketeer family and her subservient loyal. This is why the Americans public can’t comprehend or understand the elitist mafia racket system that is ruling them. They are told big government is bad, they are told a social umbrella is bad and not necessary but patriotism and loyalty to the system is a must and patriotic, don't ask what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country, Mening the country will send you to get fucked in jungles of Vietnam for no good reason, and don’t ask what you get in return. That’s the system they are brought up in why one except anything else from her diplomacy.

Excellent post Obamavirus, well said.

Sadly a number of previous friends who don't get your salient point and will never get it, expect me to unconditionally follow these bloodthirsty and psychopathic Zionist Neocon warmongers as a measure of my dedication to my nationality and my 'patriotism'.

The problem with that proposition is that the Zionist Neocons hegemonic ambitions will never end.

That leads to appease them now and then forever into the future. They alienated me long ago there is no turning back.

Off-topic, but kind of on-topic question:

Does anyone have a link to the full article w/ the interview involving Max van der Werff and Marcel van den Berg regarding the MH-17 shoot-down?

Russia Insider has a small portion of it here: https://russia-insider.com/en/politics/whose-buk-dutch-researchers-discuss-mh17/ri20287

But the Dutch site Novini has taken the full article down for some reason. http://www.novini.nl/rutte-weet-precies-er-is-gebeurd-mh17/

If anyone also might know the rough date when that article was published, I can check the WayBack Machine to see if there is an archive of that edition.

The question is, who operated the tank?

Posted by: Sundial | Apr 12 2022 23:11 utc | 234

And also, what was the tank model.

Comments at topwar.ru seems to coalesce on some T-64, basing it on engine "woodcutter" sound and turret active armor pattern, some also heard track clangs.

"Russian tank" version claims T-72B3, as the main tank of RuArmy. Don't think we still have T-64 in service today. LDPR Armies do have captured or donated T-64.

The cameraman position, i'd assume, would be biased towards safety, so to the "ukrainian" direction from the disabled IFV. And then the tank came from "Russian" direction. But this is just my wild speculation.

Yeah, I know CS and tear gas (not OC, although I carry some). While in basic training, I was hit with both of them. Tear gas can mostly be worked with, it's not totally disabling depending on dosage. In the US Army basic training in the 60's you had to go into a building, put on a gas mask, they put tear gas in a brazier, then you have to stand in front of the sergeant right next to the brazier, take off your mask and give name, rank and serial number while inhaling the fumes and when released you left the building. Heavy tearing, but it's survivable.

CS, on the other hand, is not. We were taken to a field, stood in formation, then the training officers walked between the formation popping CS grenades. You have to pull your mask as fast as possible and get it on. Most of us failed to get it on in time. The formation disintegrated. People, including me, were running everywhere. You couldn't breath, nose snot was running down your face, your eyes were closed and burning - a lot of fun. For years afterward when I remembered that day, that smell came up in my nose.

Re the tank, Gonzalo updated his Telegram post as follows:

EDIT: NamelesZ writes the following: “regarding this video. tanks have sensors that detect the aiming of bazookas. modern cell phone cameras also trigger these sensors because they use infrared to measure the distance to objects in order to optimally focus the image. perhaps the tank fired automatically because one of the soldiers was filming with the cell phone. just as a theory on the possible causes.”

Very interesting theory. Anyone care to comment on it?

Seems very speculative to me. Makes more sense to me that the tank - whichever side it was on - rode up to the group, either identified them properly or didn't identify them properly - in any event, decided they were the enemy - and fired on the vehicles. Someone said the tank wouldn't waste a round on the soldiers themselves, the vehicles are the more important target. Whatever. It seems to me they were close enough so identification could have been made properly, especially over tank optics, so I fall on the side of it being a Russian tank that ran across this group of Ukrainians.

This sort of thing happens all the time in a dispersed mobile war like this, as Scott Ritter has pointed out in his interviews citing the Jessica Lynch case. A unit goes the wrong way, ends up in a bad situation and gets wiped out. A lot of the Russian losses are allegedly because their advance units ran into the wrong concentration of Ukrainian forces and got totaled. In this case, it looks like a Ukrainian unit was standing around with their thumbs up their butts and a Russian tank ran into them and the Ukrainians didn't realize what it was in time. You need to pay attention in war.

Ppl said the very end of the video sounds like machine gun starting shooting.

So, either that was a tank continuing ambush, or some of Ukrainians trying... Dunno what, suicide by tank?

Well, at very least there was that camera man and some behicle by his side probably. And maybe even some more ukrainians behind him.

No matter whose tank was (i do not think Russia's army sports T-64) if the crew assessed the first group of soldiers as enemies they would most probably see the next group equally.

The camera man has good instincts, fleeing so fast. He could do much better shots if he would not, but perhaps then we won't be able to see any.

Our European and US “partners”, who agitate for confronting Russia at home and play nice with “volunteers” (aka mercenaries), are carrying on a faulty tradition and do not see the repercussions of tailoring their decisions to fit a blind Russophobic logic even if it will backfire in the long term.

Craig Lang’s case is illuminating in this regard (read more in D. Yermolayev’s article (https://lv.sputniknews.ru/20220409/seya-veter-ne-pozhnet-li-latviya-neofashistskuyu-buryu-21338219.html)) "Will Latvia reap a neo-Nazi whirlwind?" of April 9). Lang is a former US soldier, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who was discharged after a PTSD diagnosis. In 2015 he set out for Donbass to fight for Right Sector but was kicked out a year later. Then he attempted to fight in Sudan, was detained with his buddy on the border with Kenya and deported to the US. There he killed two people to finance a trip to Caracas to fight the “government regime.” Finally, he fled law enforcement back to Ukraine. Kiev ignores the calls to extradite Lang and today this serial recidivist and “dog of war” is fighting alongside with other “legionnaires” such as Latvian activists. This makes for quite a tough company of such “wild geese.”

Those “activists” who don’t flee in the first days will undergo training and join the ranks of Ukrainian paramilitary units, fighting side by side with outright Nazis. And they will come back home not just with a broken mind but also as militants poisoned by a misanthropic ideology who are accustomed to violence and handling weapons. They are ready for membership in the international neo-Nazi underground. Azov will not teach them anything good.

The question is whether it is possible that the authorities and intelligence agencies in countries such as Latvia, which allow and even encourage volunteers, fail to understand this. Some, if not all, are sure to come back. Will they still blame Moscow then and not themselves?

#Opinion by Maria Zakharova:

We have been saying for the past eight years that the West is training Ukrainian nationalists. The “exceptional” and “civilised” countries refused to listen, but we continued to make our point with facts in hand. That was easy: you only had to go to Ukraine to see the regular events involving SS Waffen veterans, torchlight marches and the huge portraits of Nazi accomplices on buildings in Ivano-Frankovsk, Lvov and Ternopol.

This week, Canadian correspondent Simon Coutu published the results of a simple investigation (https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1873461/canada-regiment-ukrainien-lie-extreme-droite-azov) on his page at Radio Canada. He studied the pictures posted to social media by the National Guard of Ukraine and compared them to the training programmes conducted for the Ukrainian military by the Canadian Department of National Defence. What did he see?

He writes that many photographs made at the Canada-sponsored training centre in Zolochyov show men in fatigues with the symbols of SS divisions Das Reich and Galizien on their sleeve patches. The experts Coutu contacted have confirmed that these men are neo-Nazis, most probably from the Azov regiment. Moreover, Coutu writes that the Azov Regiment has been incorporated into the Ukrainian National Guard as “a special detachment of Military Unit 3057.” He also found out that Canada has spent nearly a $1 billion on training the Ukrainian military since 2014. How much of these funds went to train neo-Nazis? It’s anybody’s guess.

☝️ As I have said, the Canadian journalist has simply looked at the pictures and has seen what we have been talking about for years. He just looked at the photographs. We call for this every day.

Do you understand now why Russian film director Elem Klimov named his film about Nazism “Come and See”? Sometimes that is all that is needed. But it turns out that even this takes a great deal of courage.

The United States plans to transfer weapons to Kiev that will allow Ukraine to strike at Russian military airfields. We are talking about OTRK ATAMCS. More than likely, the US military will manage the complex, since Washington simply does not have time to train Ukrainian personnel. This is not just a step beyond the red lines, but a direct threat to the security of the Russian Federation. And we are sure that very serious decisions will be made to prevent the threat.

They're talking about this thing:
MGM-140 ATACMS

How is it possible for the President of the European Commission to appear on video with a person like this and it not be front page news?

@Don Bacon, 76

I think you need to pay closer attention to homeboy's background, and the content of the article.

Matthew J. Aiesi is a Major in the United States Army. He in as an Associate Professor in the National Security Law Department at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Va. The views expressed here are his personal views and do not necessarily reflect those of the Department of Defense, the United States Army, The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, or any other department or agency of the United States Government.

Alesi's claim that WP is "not an incendiary" is only true when the shells are used as flares, smoke cove, and against inanimate objects. When used to strike targets where soldiers or civilians are know to be present--whether in a dispersed or concentrated form--it most certainly does qualify as an incendiary.

As Alesi's article does it's best to obfuscate, MANY countries interpret the laws as written to ban such uses, while a good number (UK and Canada, for instance) strongly restrict any such uses to only the most intransigent targets. When Alesi claims that the UK code in question was written to "permit" such uses, he is outright lying in the service of USM policy, because USM codes--contrary to international law as it is most widely interpreted--place no restrictions on its uses.

That article you linked to, there, is pure Pentagon propaganda, a carefully crafted exercise in doublespeak and obfuscation. If one pays close attention to what is quoted and what the author claims is said, it's quite obvious that the thing was written by a high paid American lawyer who is very skilled at hiding how his client is very much in the wrong.

Donbass – Mariupol port now fully under DPR and Russian control 12/04/2022
https://www.donbass-insider.com/2022/04/12/donbass-mariupol-port-now-fully-under-dpr-and-russian-control/

The port is now fully under DPR control, and the assault on Azovstal is ready. Experience from the assault on the Ilyich Metallurgical Plant has shown that the use of flamethrowers is effective in the underground, so they will be used by the Russian and DPR armed forces in the attack on the last pocket of Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol.

Faced with the inevitable, many Ukrainian soldiers from the 36th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are surrendering to the Russian and DPR armed forces in Mariupol. After a group of more than 250 soldiers, then a second group of 160 soldiers, a third group of about 100 Ukrainian soldiers has just surrendered.

Does anyone have any information exposing this fraud "Aleksandr Dugin", who seems to be credit for lots of things to do with Putin. The Western media always seem to be attracted to liars. This clown seems to come up over and over again when it comes to Russia.

Russia’s Q1 Trade Surplus Hits Record As Oil And Gas Prices Soar
https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Russias-Q1-Trade-Surplus-Hits-Record-As-Oil-And-Gas-Prices-Soar.html

Russia—which continued its oil and gas sales in Q1 at the highest prices in years—saw its current account surplus jump by more than 2.5 times from last year’s first quarter to $58.2 billion from $22.5 billion.

Russian revenues from oil and gas sales soared in the first quarter, while imports plunged amid companies withdrawing from Russia over Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. This resulted in a major surplus in the Russian trade of goods and services.

“Export inflows stayed practically the same, but imports dropped sharply because of logistics limits and restrictions imposed by Western countries,” Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told local newspaper Izvestia in an interview published during the weekend.

Despite the widespread global condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia continued to sell its oil and gas to its key export markets in the first quarter. Asian buyers China and India continued buying Russian oil at hefty discounts, while Europe continued buying natural gas. Europe also continued buying Russian oil for most of Q1, although many European majors said in early March that they would not trade with spot Russian crude and oil products after the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia expects to earn additional oil and gas revenues equivalent to $9.6 billion (798.4 billion Russian rubles) this month, its finance ministry said last week.

Gonzalo posted a "response video" from three Russian soldiers to the Ukrainian propaganda video showing a Ukrainian woman in folk dress executing a Russian soldier.

First, they shamed the actress by name and suggested she should apologize on social media and stay home. Then the soldier reading the response shames Ukrainian men for having to hide behind a woman. It's was kinda misogynist, LOL. But effective.

As Gonzalo said, "Oh, boy."

I can't post the link because I can't post anything with a Telegram link in it for some reason.

Here's a question I hope some of the barflies can help me with?

I recall that Victoria Nuland's October 2021 visit to Russia was something of a disaster and a month or so after that I've heard rumours that Nuland basically demanded that Russia accept permanent US weapons emplacements in Central Europe and offer US investment into the Russia economy if they accepted, but if they refused she threaten harsh consequences on Russia as a whole and Putin in particular (which I recently heard was a threat to overthrow him and then drag him before an international tribunal).

Does anyone have any more information or could provide articles/videos on this meeting and what was discussed (or more details about the alleged "threats" to Russia and Putin). The US apparently pushed hard on Russia to temporarily suspend their travel ban on Nuland to allow her to come to Russia in person for this discussion and October was also around the time when the US started claiming that Russia was about to invade Ukraine and Russia-NATO relations discovered new depths to sink to. I suspect that this disastrous meeting set the stage for the current crisis, so I'd like some more in-depth information about what happened and what was discussed

Russia is sending an 8-miles long convoy of Hundreds of Tanks, Armored vehicles with artillery southbound through the Ukrainian town of Velykyi Burluk.
The convoy is moving about 60 miles East of Ukraine’s 2nd-Largest city of Kharkov, as operation focuses on Donbass front

This might explain gping back off thr gold floor for the ruble; it's unnecessary, for now, and dropping that conversion is one less possible drain on gold-reserve.

@sundial,
That’s too long for an explanation. Dublin’s a geopolitical analyst. He’s astute in analysis but his prescriptions generally go off the rails. He’s very much a proponent of the Eurasia, sea power/land power concepts of geopolitics. Criticisms include cryptofascism. My understanding is that he’s much bigger in the west as “Putin’s brain” than he is in Russia. Not that he’s unimportant, just that many find him rather shallow.

On Russians with attitudes, their podcast is well worth the patreon donation, even if you just pay for a month and listen to their history of Ukraine, Donbas chronicles and post Soviet Russian history episodes. Much of the rest of it is pretty deep into weird Russian history, philosophy and conspiracy theories (Russian ones). Great stuff, but probably only for t he hardcore Russophile with some context of Russian culture, especially intellectual.

@286 malenkov

Lol. I was wondering that myself.

A long time ago I worked with someone who had a funny term for women who rolled with groups of guys in a promiscuous manner. They called them "Couch Coozies."

The actress might be an Azov "couch coozy" herself.

For me, I have no experience with any such coozies that I know of.

... I suspect that this disastrous meeting set the stage for the current crisis

Certainly not ... disaster brewing for thirty years and the coup d’état of Feb 2014, design of VP Joe Biden was the start of ultimate confrontation. Angela Merkel prevented any earlier show down. The change of chancellor in Germany gave Biden and Nuland a new opportunity.

Victoria Nuland 3-day visit to Moscow October 2021

She met on October 12 with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who was quoted by RIA Novosti and TASS as saying that "Americans are not heeding our logic or our demands."

From what I make of it, a number of convoys have been moving to the various fronts over the last few days. Frontlines seem to have solidified and haven't moved for nearly a week. A lot of artillery pounding though.
One comment I did read was that things will kick off on Sunday. I guess that gives time for the convoys to get to their positions.

That US manned MLRS ballistic missile system will be an escalation if it occurs. US then becomes a combatant.

"That US manned MLRS ballistic missile system will be an escalation if it occurs. US then becomes a combatant."

Yup. OTOH it hasn't happened yet and may not be true. We'll see. If it is true, my guess is the US will ship it in country before sending in the trainers. That way when Russia destroys it they don't kill an Americans. That gives the Pentagon an out; they can say to Biden, "Oh, well...at least none of our people got killed."
