Is an attack on some nato members forces while they are in a third party country (non- Nato) considered an attack triggering clause 5? ( invoking the common defense agreement)
I think not, but would like clarification
In other words, Russia could fight forces deployed by a Nato country like the US or Poland, in Ukraine, without ‘attacking’ Nato.

This is exactly what happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, where NATO troops etc. were involved.
NATO is based on the idea of the sovereignty of its member states, “state” being construed — as in international law — as the permanent structure by means of which a territory is administered and its people governed, and, by extension, the territory itself.
Attacks on a state’s nationals outside the state’s territory do not count — unless, of course, a certain superpower, invoking its rules-based international order, suddenly decides that such attacks do count.

Russian authorities have already said that the laws of combat will not cover foreign mad dog mercenaries and that they will not be afforded leniency on the battlefield, now many Canadians, of Ukrainian descent have made their way to fight in Ukraine against Russian forces, though believe it or not Nazi commanders have said that they don’t want anyone without combat training or experience in their ranks, with the Nazis ranks being so depleted I’m sure as long as they can hold a rifle you’ll be welcomed.
Canada has a large population form Ukraine or of Ukrainian descent, mind you Canada has many Nazi memorials as well.

Could a ceasefire be closer than we think, the Turkish Foreign minister seems to think so.
“Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said Ukraine and Russia are nearing agreement on “critical” issues and that Ankara believes a ceasefire is possible provided neither side decides to backtrack.

Theory on why Russia does not respond with countersanctions and also why it is in no hurry to finish the demilitarization.
It seems to me that Russia benefits the longer things take as the west keeps doing more and more sanctions, which just hurts themselves. As long as the west keeps self-inflicting damage to itself, what is the hurry? Also, when the west has done all the sanctions it can do, it cannot do anymore and Russia will be able to precisely calculate what countersanctions will be the most cost effective.
The frozen central bank funds, was a good trap. It speeds up the demise of the dollar and in any case, they seem to be able to use it to make debt payments, so it seems it is not really lost at all.
Until the west starts doing things that are effective, seems fine to methodically complete the special operation, which so far seems quite impressive. Aren’t more civilians killed each week in American cities than Russia’s collateral damage?
Anyway, the Russian advances are inevitably going to turn the situation maps all red, with just Kharkov, Kiev, Odessa and the western ukraine remaining to go. If there is no surrender then, the final push to the Polish border and hoping the siege will make the big cities surrender. Would be a shame to have to mariupol Kiev.

You are absolutely correct. The case against Nazism is so clear and obvious that a refusal to allow Nazis to state their position is only of benefit to them and keeps their dead ideas on life support.

I’m quite satisfied with Dmitry Nikotin’s sitreps, in particular since the auto-translation, for the most part, is serviceable. For some maps and interviews it cuts out, don’t know if that’s just me, so I’ll try to provide translations where necessary.
Here’s one sitrep on Mariupol.

A couple of threads ago (way too much to plow through) HZ was making translations from a Chinese website with geopolitical analysis. Does anyone reading this perchance know what this Chinese site was called?
A bit off topic, but an interesting development: Bashar al-Assad made a surprise visit (and received a warm welcome) in the UAE on Friday the 18th. MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Russia’s forces are completing the defeat of the Donbass nationalist battalion and have advanced 12 more kilometers in the course of the special military operation in Ukraine, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Sunday.
“Russian army units are completing the defeat of the Donbass nationalist battalion. During the day, Russian troops advance 12 kilometers to reach Nikolskoye and jointly with units of the Donetsk People’s Republic blocked the settlement of Sladkoye from three sides,” he said.
According to Konashenkov, up to 60 militants were killed, three armored vehicles, six artillery systems and mortars of nationalists were destroyed. Currently, fighting continues in the settlements of Sladkoye, Novoukrainka, and Shakhterskoye.
Troops of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) continued to chase retreating Ukrainian troops of the 53rd brigade. Twenty Ukrainian soldiers killed, one tank, one infantry carrier and three all-terrain cars were destroyed. DPR forces continue fighting to take control of the settlements of Kamenka and Novoselovka.
